Today we're talking about something we all love: hobbies! Things we do in our free time. Luna: Oh, nice! So we'll learn how to ask someone what they like to do, and how to answer. That sounds super useful. Lucas: Exactly. And starting with the question: 'Qu'est-ce que tu aimes faire?' That means 'What do you like to do?' Let's say it together. 'Qu'est-ce que tu aimes faire?' Luna: Qu'est-ce que tu aimes faire? Lucas: Perfect. The 'tu' is informal, for talking to friends. Now, to answer, you can say 'J'aime' plus an activity. For example, 'J'aime lire.' I like to read. So 'J'aime lire.' Luna: J'aime lire. Lucas: Yes! 'Lire' is the verb to read. Let's practice the question and answer. Ask me, Luna! Luna: Qu'est-ce que tu aimes faire? Lucas: J'aime lire. And you? What do you like to do? Luna: Hmm, I like watching movies. How do I say that? Lucas: Great! 'J'aime regarder des films.' 'Regarder' means to watch, and 'des films' means movies. So: 'J'aime regarder des films.' Luna: J'aime regarder des films. Lucas: Exactly. Let's do a little back and forth. I'll ask you, you answer. 'Qu'est-ce que tu aimes faire?' Luna: J'aime regarder des films. Lucas: Nice. Another common hobby is cooking. 'J'aime cuisiner.' To cook. 'Cuisiner.' Luna: J'aime cuisiner. Oh, that's one I can use! I love cooking. Lucas: Me too. Now, what about sports? You can ask 'Tu aimes le sport?' Do you like sports? 'Tu aimes le sport?' Luna: Tu aimes le sport? Lucas: And you can answer 'Oui, j'aime le sport.' or 'Non, je n'aime pas le sport.' But today we'll stick with 'Oui, j'aime le sport.' Luna: Oui, j'aime le sport. So if I like sports, I say that. Lucas: Right. Let's hear all the phrases again. First, the question: 'Qu'est-ce que tu aimes faire?' Luna: Qu'est-ce que tu aimes faire? Lucas: Good. Now answers: 'J'aime lire.' Luna: J'aime lire. Lucas: 'J'aime regarder des films.' Luna: J'aime regarder des films. Lucas: 'J'aime cuisiner.' Luna: J'aime cuisiner. Lucas: And then: 'Tu aimes le sport?' and 'Oui, j'aime le sport.' Luna: Tu aimes le sport? Oui, j'aime le sport. Lucas: Excellent. Now let's put it in a mini conversation. Imagine I meet you at a party. I say: 'Salut, qu'est-ce que tu aimes faire?' Luna: J'aime lire et regarder des films. Et toi? Lucas: J'aime cuisiner et j'aime le sport. Luna: Oh, cool! So we have a little chat going. That feels natural. Lucas: Exactly. And remember, you can replace the activity with anything. Like 'J'aime danser' or 'J'aime voyager'. We'll learn more hobbies in future episodes. Luna: But for now, we have a solid start.
