- 0:07SPEAKER_00: Hi, I'm Kate Dresden, and welcome to Kate's Devotional Podcast.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: I drop my podcast every Wednesday.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: It's always a five-minute or less devotional to bring you encouragement as we try
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: to live our lives according to the Bible.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: So glad you're here.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Do you ever think everyone else's life is so exciting compared to yours?
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: I mean,
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: you get on social media and you'd look at people whose jobs take them to different countries,
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: places all over the world.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: You're scrolling down and you see your friend's vacation pictures,
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: the ones where they have their feet hanging off the beach chair on some exotic island.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: Then you look at your own life and maybe you haven't been outside of 150 mile radius in a while.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Okay, so that may or may not be me.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Does it ever make you think, man, my life is so boring compared to theirs?
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Maybe I'm just spinning my wheels while everyone else is out there having the time of their lives.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Well, the truth is, for most of us, our daily schedules aren't exciting or life-changing.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: Our lives are made up mostly of ordinary days,
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: running to the grocery store,
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: taking the kids to soccer practice,
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: helping someone to the doctor.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Or here's what a lot of people can relate to, going to the same job day after day, year after year.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: But you know,
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: when you're older and you look back on your life,
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: the difficult years of raising kids or watching your grandchildren grow up,
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: you realize it wasn't the expensive trips or the fancy parties that gave our lives value.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: So how do you have a beautiful and meaningful life?
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Well, I believe a beautiful life is made up by number one, living in obedience to God.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: 1 John 5,
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: 3,
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: reading out of the New King James Version,
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: it says,
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: For this is the love of God,
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: that we keep his commandments,
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: and his commandments are not burdensome.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: And number two, a beautiful life is made by loving the ones God places in your path.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: John 13,
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: 34 says,
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: A new commandment I give to you,
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: that you love one another,
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: as I have loved you,
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: that you also love one another.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: And last but not least, a beautiful life is made by living a life of integrity.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: Proverbs 22.1 says,
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches,
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: loving favor rather than silver and gold.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: We shouldn't waste time wishing our lives were more exhilarating or exciting.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: We should spend our time appreciating what we have and living a life that is pleasing to God.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: So as you go about your day, I challenge you to see the mundane things in a new way.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: The daily tasks and memories we're creating are the ones that are building you a
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: beautiful life,
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: one ordinary day at a time.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: And we can appreciate our ordinary days.
