- 2:04in Chapmanville, Hollywood. Jeff Petty is our producer Day lots to get to
- 2:07this morning. The big story from the Charleston City Council meeting last night actually
- 2:10started before the council meeting with a release from the city that former Charleston Police
- 2:15Chief thy Hunt and Sergeant Richie Basford had been placed on administrative leave depending results
- 2:22of an internal investigation. That announcement made by Interim Chief Scott Dempsey. This
- 2:25comes on the heels of former Charleston Police officer Chelsea McCoy, who filed a
- 2:30complaint alleging that former Chief thy Hunt had tampered with her polygraph test during her
- 2:36application process to be an officer with the Charleston PD. And we're going to
- 2:40get into that story a little bit later on. It's very, very complicated,
- 2:45but we'll get into that a little bit later on. Also, out
- 2:49of Putnham County, a couple of meetings last night. Normally, you know,
- 2:53board meetings in Putnham County or a Hurricane City council not not that newsworthy,
- 2:58but they are because of some things that happened at those meetings last night
- 3:01and some discussion. We're going to get into that a little bit later on.
- 3:05Also, Susie Salisbury from Charleston Ay Alliance is going to join us as
- 3:08well on a less controversial things, Rick the Realtor, Rick, I said,
- 3:14Rick, Why I've only even known you for how many years? I
- 3:16just called you Rick? Or waiting on someone else to come in? Rick?
- 3:20Because who were waiting on? Rich the realtor client and Thor Meeks and
- 3:23Meeks Realty are with us this morning. Thora is at an undisclosed location.
- 3:28Good morning, Thor. How are you? I'm doing great? How is
- 3:30everyone in the studio? Well, Rick's doing fine over here. I don't
- 3:34know why I called him Rick, I've known the guy forever, but that
- 3:36Rich the realtor is actually in the Palmer Store studio this morning. How are
- 3:39you man? Good? Good to see you, great too, to see
- 3:42you as well. And I'm not gonna ask either one of you to talk
- 3:46about politics or anything that I mentioned in the open of the show, So
- 3:49we'll say that for a little bit later on. You know, we spent
- 3:52a lot of time talking about the sales of properties guys here in the Canal
- 3:54Valley, but I wanted to take a moment to discuss rental properties for a
- 4:00moment, and either one of you can can jump in on that. How
- 4:02many what's the rental market look like compny properties do you guys have? Yeah,
- 4:06that's going to be a thor question. All right, Thor that's for
- 4:09you, man, Sure, I'll jump in on it. So, so,
- 4:13so the rental market is strong right now, obviously you know, and
- 4:16similar concept of the housing market. It kind of overflows with interest rates getting
- 4:23higher. Uh, some people just can't afford to get out there and purchase
- 4:26a house, or there's not the inventory to be able to find the house
- 4:28they want. So ideally we are the backbone of being able to facilitate a
- 4:33roof over their heads with the with the offerings of whether it be apartments or
- 4:39homes or commercial rentals. We kind of stretched the board so I don't know.
- 4:43We probably have right around four thousand doors that we operate and manage residential
- 4:47and commercially, and we uh, it's it's a very good market. It's
- 4:51it's we could always use more units to facilitate the need. But yeah,
- 4:57it's uh, the short answers, it's it's good. So now are we
- 5:00talking what you guys have for primarily residential or commercial? I know you do
- 5:05a mix, but which one takes up the biggest part of the of the
- 5:09percentage. So we're about seventy five percent residential, so multi family housing,
- 5:13apartment's houses, and then the other twenty five percent is going to be commercial
- 5:16based, so everything from a mom and pop store that you see, you
- 5:19know, in a stript center, to industrial facilities and Fortune five hundred companies
- 5:27that we can facilitate with. And how is the market looking? Richie can
- 5:30jump in here as well, how is the market looking right now for Putnham
- 5:32County? Because you know, I talked about this on the show as Senator
- 5:36tar on the show yesterday and we talked about the growth of Putnham County.
- 5:43It's it's starting to grow again. Never really stopped growing or definitely didn't go
- 5:47on the decline, I'll put it that way. And now with you know
- 5:49one county over, you got new Core and you got all these other properties
- 5:54and things going on in Jackson County, which is a neighboring county. What
- 5:57are we looking at right now Putnham County? Guess yeah, So from a
- 6:00from a I'll hit on the commercial side and I'll got rich on the residential
- 6:04side. But so from a commercial perspective, it's it's growth and we're seeing
- 6:09a substantial amount of it, and we're you know, poised to continue to
- 6:12take on that growth as much as we possibly can. From I mentioned industrial,
- 6:16so we're seeing a lot of one offs from the new core development in
- 6:20our neighboring counties and a lot of people want to want to be in work
- 6:25in Putnam County. And then again I'll flip it to Rich for the residential,
- 6:28but everyone wants to live here too. We got the best schools and
- 6:30in the state and it's just a very very good community. So Rich take
- 6:34it from there. Yeah, the same thing for the residential. And it
- 6:38seems like I repeat the same message no matter whether I'm here or just talking
- 6:41to people throughout you know, the my day. We just need more homes.
- 6:45We need places to sell. There aren't enough available. The builders need
- 6:48to get on the stick. And I mean that's a pun I guess,
- 6:51but they need to get it. They need multiple sticks, multiple sticks,
- 6:55you know, even though they're still you know, expensive, but but yeah,
- 6:58it's still hot market. There's you know, home in Putnham County that
- 7:01was involved in this weekend and a multiple offers scenario. I mean there were
- 7:04ten out ten offers on the home. So homes like that are just there's
- 7:09still a lot of buyers in the wings waiting, no matter when the rates
- 7:13are kind of going back and forth. A little bit looked like they might
- 7:15go up again, but there's still so many buyers on the sideline that you
- 7:18know, the homes are just hot. Now have you seen and you've been
- 7:23around Putnam County been in real estate for a while, rich have you have
- 7:25you seen anything like this in the past where people this shortage of of of
- 7:30homes And I mean, if you've seen a market like this in the past.
- 7:32It started and it started at COVID. You know, prior to that,
- 7:35it would have been waged before my time. And if this had happened
- 7:39before, so somebody who's been in you know for thirty years or something,
- 7:41they've been able to attest to it. But at COVID, it just you
- 7:45know, the people were staying in the homes, they weren't going anywhere,
- 7:48and then the buy the rates kept dropping. So when a home did become
- 7:51available. We used to have the MLS and the Cannabadware realtors would carry probably
- 7:58fifteen hundred or so listings at any given time, prior to COVID, and
- 8:03now we're hovering somewhere around five hundred and it's just dropped that it didn't recover.
- 8:09You know. We came up a little bit in the fall of last
- 8:11year, but then it went right back down. So and I've made this
- 8:15joke on the air before, although it's not a very funny joke. Most
- 8:18of mine aren't. But every time in Putnham County, it seems every time
- 8:22somebody takes their curtains down to wash them, somebody comes and knocks on the
- 8:24door. And we actually I was at an event not long ago, and
- 8:28this was actually wasn't in Putnam County, but it was in a in a
- 8:31growing area of Cabell County. Somebody said that literally someone came up to their
- 8:35home, knocked on the door and asked if they'd like to sell their home.
- 8:39Yeah, I was at an event with you and say that it's so
- 8:43surprising. I mean, it's not surprising. It would have been surprising a
- 8:46few years ago. But you know, people are there are lots of buyers
- 8:50on the in the wings who want to buy. Talking to rich the real
- 8:52decline thor makes for meeks realty this morning, guess what is the first step
- 8:56of a buyer and take a I'll give you scenario. My wife and I
- 9:01look at a new house, either we look at it online and we look
- 9:03at it in person or whatever. We make an appointment with what the realtor
- 9:07like yourself and we go look at or maybe even for a business. You
- 9:11know, I'm thinking about opening up a business and I need a brick and
- 9:13mortar location. Take us through that process exactly how does that work. So
- 9:20I'll speak to the residential part of that and the thor talk about what would
- 9:24happen from a commercial perspective. But you know, I always encourage people to
- 9:26understand their loan. And you want to get pre approved, so you want
- 9:30to connect with a lender. I mean, we're happy to get you started
- 9:33on a search and kind of look at you know, what's available out there,
- 9:35but you need to understand what you can afford. And I always tell
- 9:39people that you're going to feel way better about yourself and the process if you
- 9:43understand your loan. There are many options in lending. It isn't just about
- 9:46a conventional loan. There are lots of options. So I encourage people the
- 9:50first step is to talk to a lender and get yourself preapproved. Now,
- 9:54Thor, let's good to you on the commercial side. Yeah, sure,
- 9:58So from a commercial standpoint, it's a little bit different and you're just gonna
- 10:01you know, what we're seeing here from a commercial standpoint is lack of inventory
- 10:05as well. So the first thing you want to do is probably reach out
- 10:09to me directly or reach out to one of my staff, and we're going
- 10:11to try to build a you know, viewing parameter of what you need from
- 10:16a brick and mortar perspective, and most everything that happens in that scenario is
- 10:22not going to require financing because we're just going to rent it to you and
- 10:28we'll help with that. The journey from a monetary standpoint and we need to
- 10:33build a suit lease, we need to get you guys squared away. From
- 10:35an interior build out perspective, it's it's very all the cart and it's very
- 10:39case by case. So it's just a matter of having the conversations and digging
- 10:45into it. What kind of change is Thor have you seen with the commercial
- 10:50market, because you know, Rich reference COVID a little bit earlier, and
- 10:52sure things are starting to change. Now there's a shift in America where not
- 10:56as many people are working in offices anymore. And I think I would think
- 11:01that some employers are thinking, well, we don't really need this big,
- 11:03old space that we used to have because fifty to seventy five percent of our
- 11:07people are working either remotely or they're working a hybrid schedule where they're in the
- 11:13office let's say Monday and Tuesday, and they work from home Wednesday, Thursday
- 11:16and Friday. What kind of changes have you seen in the real estate market
- 11:18for as it pertains to this change in the way we work in America.
- 11:24Sure, it's a great question, and we are feeling it a little bit.
- 11:28We're not feeling it like New York City. We're not feeling it like
- 11:30you know, La or some some somewhere on a big city basis, But
- 11:35we are feeling it a little bit. And what we're feeling is here locally,
- 11:39you know, the ten thousand square feet office space is not necessarily needed
- 11:43anymore. It's more dropping down to the two to three thousand square foot space
- 11:46from an office perspective because of those hybrid schedules. But we are seeing a
- 11:50lot of people, a lot of employers requiring that back to work schedule.
- 11:52So you know, at the very least, we're seeing the hybrid schedule being
- 11:56put in place, so they're needing a little bit less office space. They
- 12:00like to call it a hotel style, so you know, instead of having
- 12:03your own desk, you share a desk with multiple people, so they don't
- 12:05need as much space. So we're feeling that a little bit. I think
- 12:09Charleston and is feeling it a little bit more than we are here in Putnam
- 12:11County just because. But but we are seeing seeing some of that and the
- 12:18shift has you know, has has happened, and it's just something we'll have
- 12:24to deal with and then we'll repurpose the spaces that we have out there that
- 12:26may be sitting emptied. But fortunately here in Putnam County, we're being able
- 12:31to repurpose those very effectively and quickly, so we're seeing a very low amount
- 12:37of vacancies out there at the very moment. Guys, I appreciate you take
- 12:39a time on your schedule, be a rich give us that phone number of
- 12:43my personal number three oh four nine three two seven four eight eight three or
- 12:48four nine three two seven four eight eight. And from the commercial standpoint,
- 12:52I'm sorry, I was just gonna say recommend everybody to go to Meek's not
- 12:56us. Yeah, just go to the website. That's the easiest way to
- 12:58find us. And I'm sure to throw the or if you'd like to give
- 13:00out your personal number, you're happy to do that. I want to pass
- 13:03on that right now. But us great, all right, Thora and Rich,
- 13:09I appreciate you guys being here. We'll talk soon. Thanks a lot.

- 13:31joking for it, he said, don't ask me anything controversial. We're gonna

- 13:37interesting the shift in the working of America right now. And I was having
- 13:41a conversation with somebody the other day that was saying that right now, if
- 13:46you and this is not your field of expertise, per se. But whereas
- 13:52now, if you go and apply for a job in an office type setting,
- 13:56it's almost like the employee is interviewing the employee er and saying how many
- 14:00days. And a friend of mine actually told me this. They were interviewing
- 14:03for this is out of state. They were interviewing for a job. And
- 14:05the person looked at and said, okay, how many days can I work
- 14:07from home? Yeah? And the and the my friend of the employer said
- 14:11well, we're in the office five days a week. Yeah, they didn't
- 14:13take the job, but because you've almost got to offer that now, definitely

- 17:32Putnam County has long had the best schools in the state. That's why
- 17:36there is a concerned effort to keep woke political sexual ideology out of our schools.
- 17:41We are winning that fight, but all the parents who want normalcy must
- 17:44stick together and not become complacent with these leftist radicals who are trying to reshape
- 17:48the minds of our youngsters in public schools. I'm gonna get to that story
- 17:52covered up a little bit later on. Susie Salisbury from the Charleston Area Alliance
- 17:56is with us right now. How are you, Susie. I'm great,
- 17:59Mooney ring to have you. Thank you. We've been up too lately.
- 18:00What's going on with the Alliance? I mean, you know, we got
- 18:03a couple of big things to get to. But what kind of kind of
- 18:07work you've been doing over there? What've been working? We've been really really
- 18:08busy over there. This morning, I want to talk about our Leadership Canal
- 18:14Valley program, which is a program that develops, supports, and connects talent
- 18:19across this Canal Valley region. We reshaped this whole program back when the Charleston
- 18:25Area Alliance was formed, because it was originally under the Charleston Chamber of Commerce.
- 18:29It was called Leadership Charleston, but you know, Charleston doesn't exist in
- 18:34and of itself without you know, feeling the impacts of what's happening in the
- 18:40whole valley. So we reworked the whole curriculum and now we call it Leadership
- 18:45Canal Valley and it is a stepping stone to Leadership West Virginia as well.
- 18:49We were the first leadership program that existed in this state of West Virginia,
- 18:55so we're real proud of that. But we've probably taken close to five folks
- 19:00through the program since it was reinitiated back in early two thousand and It is
- 19:07an opportunity for members of the community to come together for eight full days and
- 19:12it runs October through May. They spend an entire day with us and we
- 19:17will delve into a whole variety of issues. We'll delve into government issues,
- 19:23will delve into industry issues, and we delve into education, arts, you
- 19:30know, lots of things that are impacting the community. But it's an opportunity
- 19:36to bring twenty five individuals and they're not necessarily young professionals. They span you
- 19:42know, we've had much like Leadership West Virginia much like Leadership West Virginia.
- 19:47And I really value that with this program because you know, particularly the younger
- 19:52folks and that are really trying to build air career. It's they learned so
- 19:57much from the people that have been here for a while and been in these
- 20:02leadership positions, and it's just extremely rewarding for me to see these bonds form,
- 20:10to see dialogue, listen to dialogue that is very professional and very open,
- 20:15and we're so so appreciative of a lot of the presentations and the presenters
- 20:22that actually come to the program and share their knowledge with the classes a lot
- 20:26of times because I good a little plug for Leadership West Virginia because I went
- 20:30through the program in twenty fifteen. Best thing I ever did. I mean,
- 20:33in my entire want best thing. I mean. I went to areas
- 20:37of the state I had not been to before. I met people that I'm
- 20:38still friends with, and it's a little bit I think we had fifty some
- 20:41odd people in our in our organization, but it was without it out the
- 20:45best, the best thing I ever did. But one of the things I
- 20:49liked about it was much like with what you're talking about in Kanau County,
- 20:52is that it is. It's a wide range of ages. And so while
- 20:57you say, and I understand what you're saying that these younger people can learn
- 21:00from the older people, older people can also learn from the younger people too,
- 21:04And I was one of those because in my Leadership West Virginia class,
- 21:07we had people in their mid twenties and I think the oldest person was nearing
- 21:11seventy, you know, And so learned a lot in that. And it's
- 21:15much much the way that that the that the program in the Kanal Valley works
- 21:19as well. Yeah. Actually Pam Ferris came through Leadership Kanal Valley when she
- 21:23just took the position with Leadership. Okay, okay, So and shortly they're
- 21:29how are the people chosen for the program? Because I get that a lot
- 21:32about Leadership West Virginia. People have asked me, while you know, what's
- 21:36the what's the process? Like, we do it a little different here.
- 21:40It is basically first come first sir. Okay. So whoever registers first is
- 21:44in the program. So we don't really set any parameters when we when we
- 21:48re organize it. We did store it out with an application process, and
- 21:52then I quickly learned I thought you know this is in the Kanal Valley,
- 21:56and if people are really that interested in in registering for the program and making
- 22:03this commitment, I mean it's a time commitment. It's one day a month.
- 22:06Now, Leadership West Virginia obviously is much larger time commitment, but this
- 22:10is one day a month that you know you're coming to us. You're putting
- 22:14your phones aside, your emails aside, and all one day, right for
- 22:18one day? He am. So we thought, you know what, if
- 22:21they have that interest to do it, let's just make it a registration.
- 22:25Are not necessarily an applications? What kind of things do they do in the
- 22:29program? Well, we will, We're right now. We take a look
- 22:33at the curriculum every single year because we want to make sure that we are
- 22:36addressing the issues that are impacting our community right now and what might be future
- 22:42issues. Excuse me. So we are now pulling everything together. We are
- 22:48going to be kicking off the day with some leadership development. We always weave
- 22:52in leadership development skill building into each and every socion. We're going to start
- 22:57with some leadership developments skill development. We're going to spend the day at the
- 23:02West Virginia Tech Park, the afternoon at the West Virginia Tech Park. In
- 23:06November, we're going to spend the day up at the Yeager International Airport,
- 23:11which is really eye opening and just just a fabulous day up there. We
- 23:17will then probably spend a day hopefully at Carver School. We'd like to go
- 23:22up there, and we like to learn what all's going on in the Upper
- 23:25Canal Valley, so we'll do a history lesson hopefully here from some of the
- 23:29mayors up in the Upper Canal Valley area about some of their struggles and then
- 23:33some of the great things because they're doing a lot of great things out there.
- 23:36I mean they're they're really working hard. We will also then spend a
- 23:41whole other day on leadership school development. Probably in January, we like to
- 23:45look at healthcare. We're gonna hopefully spend a day at Thomas W. Thomas
- 23:49WW Medicine Thomas Hospitals. They are our sponsor for the program as well.
- 23:56Then we get to spend a day at the Air National Guard the one thirtieth
- 24:00and UH and hopefully weather permitting and all everything lines up well, they'll get
- 24:06to take a boss lift, so they'll get to fly in the C one
- 24:11thirty so and then we'll fill in a lot. We'll have some industry industry
- 24:17leaders on a panel to kind of talk about, you know, what's what's
- 24:22happening in the in the business, the big business world, small business world,
- 24:27and we'll spend some time with the arts, and then of course the
- 24:32nonprofits social sector. When when we redid this, we really took a look
- 24:36at I kept hearing, particularly with a lot of nonprofits that they were having
- 24:40a hard time keeping board members and finding that new leadership to help lead their
- 24:44nonprofits. So we spun this as a way to potentially train these individuals to
- 24:51then take seats on a lot of these board of directors and something that they
- 24:53found great interest in. So we trying to make sure and always weave in
- 24:59the non offit sector because there's so many nonprofits out there that are i mean,
- 25:03if it weren't for the nonprofits, I'm not sure where this community would
- 25:06be. No, you're exactly right. Need to have good people that and
- 25:08instilling the importance of people and not just young people, but people in general
- 25:14of all ages that you do need to give something back and you need to
- 25:18get in and you need to get involved with these things. I mean there's
- 25:19always And what I've found in these things, Susie, and again we're talking
- 25:22with Susie Salisbury from the Charlesonnary Alliance. What I have found with these things,
- 25:26Susie, is that you don't know what you don't know, as a
- 25:30former employer of mine used to say, and you don't know really how things
- 25:33work until you get in there and everybody's busy, everybody's working sixty hours a
- 25:37week, and everybody's got families, and they got this, and they got
- 25:38that. These nonprofits they'll make time for you. They'll work around your schedules.
- 25:45What I'm trying to say absolutely on where can people learn more about the
- 25:48program Charles Scenary Alliance dot org. And we are taking registration right now.
- 25:53We have two registration fees. One is for our members at four ninety five
- 25:59and then the others our future member rate at six ninety five, So we
- 26:03will only take twenty five individuals. We like to keep it smaller, we
- 26:07like it to be a little bit more intimate, and so we don't we
- 26:12don't open it up from much more than that. We already have leave as
- 26:17of yesterday afternoon, eleven or twelve, so we're almost halfway full already and
- 26:21go over the time commitment again. The time commitment is we generally meet the
- 26:23first Thursday of each month, with the exception of January we go to the
- 26:27second Thursday because of the holidays, and they will meet roughly eight thirty to
- 26:33four, So it is an entire day. So you've got to make arrangements,
- 26:37to make arrangements to be for. We build in some breaks, yeah,
- 26:41so that you can go into your check your emails, check your email,
- 26:45answer your phone calls, nobody nobody's disconnected. These news nice, but
- 26:51we've we feed you, We always feed you nice lunches. And suddenly you
- 26:55have my producer, Jeff's attention. Okay, well he's welcome to come.
- 26:57But yeah, I mean we encourage that. We you know, it's really
- 27:03great because each class is very different. You can see some of the classes,
- 27:06just like leadership West Virginia will form these really tight bonds. I've seen
- 27:11individuals that have grown up here and just to see their faces when they learned
- 27:17something about this community like that, they had no idea and it's happened.
- 27:21They were come and tell me, all the time I have lived grown up
- 27:23here, never knew anything about that said, well, that's why I'm so
- 27:27proud to have you in this program. Now, you know, before we
- 27:30let you go, what else is going on with the Charleston near your line
- 27:33primarily wanted to talk about this, but what else you got going on?
- 27:36We have this Friday, we have our Women's Elevations. We have Justice fun
- 27:41so we've still taken some registrations for that. That'll be at the cong County
- 27:45Public Library. We're looking forward to that. Next Tuesday, we have our
- 27:48we Love our Community Awards, and I believe we're going to come back and
- 27:51talk a little bit more about that. Okay, next week we have Business
- 27:55after Hours on the fourteenth, and that's a Goodwill it's a tailgate party and
- 28:00we've got lots of going on and the complete list of activities are available on
- 28:03the website, which is an area lines dot org. And you guys do
- 28:07a fantastic job on your social media as well, keep people out been in
- 28:10that way, Susie, It's always a pleasure to talk to you. Great
- 28:12things going on, And again, as somebody who went through the Leadership West
- 28:17Virginia program, I would urge if you're in the business community for thinking about
- 28:21being in a business or even just to learn and to meet people. It's
- 28:23a great, great thing to do, to get involved. And as you
- 28:26said, and I've heard about this, Susie, happening in a lot of
- 28:29different areas too, because I know just about every area of the state has
- 28:33a program similar to this. I know where I live in Putnam County they
- 28:36have one. You learn, you lived someplace your entire life, and you
- 28:40never never knew these things until you until you get out and you meet people
- 28:45and you go and you take advantage of it. Susie, I appreciate you

- 33:50and trust me, we got enough bizarre stories to cover the rest of
- 33:52the show leads. Actually it was the lead story. I think it's been
- 33:55replaced by this no confidence vote on the president g by the View faculty.
- 34:00That's a lead story now. But the previous lead story when I was prepared
- 34:04for the show this MORTYWV metronews dot com. This thing had happened in the
- 34:07employee parking areas c AMC Memorial yesterday. Fourteen vehicles were destroyed when a power
- 34:16line fell on top of them, causing a fire. Now it happened around
- 34:22this time yesterday morning. Thankfully no injuries were reported. And again the story
- 34:25of pictures are posted now at WV metronews dot com. And that broke just
- 34:30around like I said about twenty four hours or so yesterday, and I mean
- 34:34just I mean, I'm just trying to in our thoughts and prayers with all
- 34:37those people. Obviously, you know, property can be replaced as opposed to
- 34:42human lives that cannot. But I mean, just to have a power line
- 34:45fall and destroy fourteen cars like that, I mean absolutely, absolutely incredible storing.
- 34:52Okay, So I mentioned earlier that former Charleston Police Chief Tai Hunt and
- 34:57Al Sergeant Richie Basford have been put on administrative leave pending the results of an
- 35:02internal investigation by the Charleston Police Department. The info was released yesterday late afternoon
- 35:09my interim Charleston Police Department Chief Scott Dempsey, and this will go through the
- 35:15PSD, which is the Professional Standards Division. Now at this time there's been
- 35:21no further comment from the Police Department or Mayor Amy Goodwin, as is expected.
- 35:27It is an ongoing investigation. Now, I will say that Mayor Goodwin
- 35:30will be on the show next Monday, as she will be in the Mayor
- 35:35Monday segment next Monday, So I don't know that she'll have comment on it
- 35:38before then or then or what. But sometimes comments become no comment which is
- 35:45understandable completely in this situation, but we'll find out in the coming days and
- 35:49certainly by Monday. It has also not been confirmed exactly what the investigation or
- 35:55the investigations are about. There. It is a story posted w v Metronews
- 36:00dot com and another note from city council last night. Council is looking at
- 36:07adjusting a rule of council that pertains to who is permitted on the chamber floor
- 36:15for their meetings and who and how long someone can speak when it's public comment
- 36:22time. Again. Story posted with all the code sightings and things of that
- 36:25nature another legal stuff WCHS Network dot com. So, in effect, as
- 36:30I understand it, it would bump up the current limit of five speakers to
- 36:36ten, and members of the public would also get twenty minutes to bring their
- 36:40issue to council instead of the ten minutes that they currently get now. The
- 36:46city says it's an effort to bring in quote greater public participation. Another separate
- 36:55part of the discussion is to look at who exactly is allowed on the chamber
- 37:01floor now. The resolution says that when city Council meetings are in session that
- 37:12only council members and city staff should be permitted on the floor. Councilman Chad
- 37:19Robinson is quoted in our story as saying that there had been some disruptions recently
- 37:27which has led to this. Now I understand the resolution was on the agenda
- 37:32for the full council meeting last night, was pushed back to be addressed at
- 37:37a later time. So basically what they're looking and you got to understand Charleston
- 37:40City Council was a little bit different than any other. But there may be
- 37:44a couple of other large cities that are similar, maybe a Huntington or Morgantown,
- 37:47some of the other larger city most of us, if you attend a
- 37:50city council meeting, you know it's a very small room and you know,
- 37:53not a whole lot of people from the public show up. But Charleston City
- 37:58Council a little bit different and it's almost in a in a manner if you've
- 38:01never seen it, think capital, you know, not obviously not as big,
- 38:06but where you have the goings on on the in the main chamber and
- 38:09then in the gallery that's where everybody else sits and they kind of, you
- 38:14know, watch what's going on or whatever. Unless they are speaking, of
- 38:16course, which you have to be permitted, you know, to speak at
- 38:20these things, and they're going to change the time of that actually going to
- 38:22allow more time for speakers. But they are looking at who exactly is going
- 38:27to be allowed on the floor for the entire meeting. I'm talking about it
- 38:30if you're speaking, I'm talking about if you know, if you're just there
- 38:32doing whatever. And apparently, according to Councilman Chad Robinson, that have been
- 38:37a problem with the disruptions and things of that nature. And as going forward,
- 38:43who will be allowed to actually be there on the council floor if they're
- 38:47not speaking or they're not part of the council or part of the staff that
- 38:51you see running around, you know, doing things. And so so that's
- 38:55that's kind of where that is. Uh, let me see text says,
- 39:00oh my, the wokeness is everywhere. Get real, folks. You're either
- 39:05acting in bad faith and you know it, or you're caught in a moral
- 39:07panic. Remember when Smurfs, dungeons and dragons, he Man, Ozzy,
- 39:12Osbourne, ACDC, etc. We're causing satanism and kids I do so this
- 39:17is texture talking. Remember when homosexuals were baselessly attacked as child abusers, and
- 39:22I moral I do. The wogness claim is recycled garbage from the right wing
- 39:27reactionaries whose only goal is to get you to hate another person. What would
- 39:31Jesus do? According to a texture, Texture says, if the radical leftist
- 39:38aren't trying to push their sexual ideology into students, then why are they fighting
- 39:44so hard to hang LGBTQ flags, posters and banners around Hurricane High School?
- 39:51So this is what I There's a couple of notes out of Putnam County that
- 39:54I wanted to get to. One of those as it pertains to the Putnam
- 39:58County of Education meeting that was held last night, and I kind of I
- 40:02referenced this on the show yesterday and first saw this coming down when I guess,
- 40:13like a, well, it was kind of interesting because scrolling social media,
- 40:15as we have a tendency to do, and I saw a post from
- 40:22from someone that I could't even tell you who it was, but someone that
- 40:25posted about, you know, trying to get people mobilized to attend the Putnam
- 40:30County Board of Education meeting last night because there is there is a standing as
- 40:36best I understand it, there is a standing statute ordinance whatever you want to
- 40:43call it code that talks about having overtly political things in schools. And so
- 40:52the first post, the first post I saw had to do with a group
- 40:57saying that they are trying to march nalize the LGBTQ plus community of students in
- 41:05schools in Putnam County and to try to get everybody to go out to this
- 41:07Putnam County Board of Education meeting, which was held last night at their facility
- 41:13in Winfield. Then I also saw a post, a similar post from the
- 41:16other side, and I referenced this yesterday, asking people to go out and
- 41:22show support for the Putnam County school system and they're they're trying to limit these
- 41:30sorts of things. So this is what was discussed last night at the Putnam
- 41:35County Board meeting, but it wasn't actually on the agenda, and from what
- 41:39I understand, it was more of a public comment type thing than anything else.
- 41:44And it was well covered. You know, we covered it. It
- 41:45was covered by the television stations as well. And this rule does not apply
- 41:54to signs that you know would would ask for you to vote for so and
- 41:59so for home coming queen, or to vote for so and so to be
- 42:01the junior class president. It's not that kind of political science. It is
- 42:06signs though that and I saw them, you know, I mentioned I spent
- 42:08some time in Hurricane High School and my former job, and I saw signs
- 42:13talking about inclusiveness and things that nature. And apparently people have a problem with
- 42:19that as was, but there were people that had a problem with them not
- 42:22being there as well. Now, Putnam County Schools issued a statement which you
- 42:28can read for yourself on our website, but it basically says that the existing
- 42:32policy prohibiting any posters or literature that advocate for particular political candidates or a point
- 42:38of view are not allowed. One person that identified was a Hurricane High student
- 42:47that identified as being part of the LGBTQ plus community said the sign age was
- 42:52removed and the signee that was removed was not political, but made them feel
- 42:58safe in school. And so that's where we are with that story right now.
- 43:05And man, I've got a whole lot of text to get to.
- 43:07I'll get to him here momentarily. Then I want to get to Hurricane City
- 43:12Council, which had a similar topics being discussed last night. I'll get to
- 43:17that here in a couple of Moments. Five ety Live is brought to you

- 46:02at denying the Truth Squad a seat at the media table. Well maybe they
- 46:07should be part of the media, uh, Texas, Dave, it's disturbing
- 46:14the Charleston's first liberal female mayors at the helm of the worst good old boy
- 46:17disaster the city has ever had in Charleston in the Charleston PD. Hopefully she
- 46:22can champion major cultural improvement within our law enforcement. Uh Tex says, today's
- 46:32conservative politicians are doing the LBJ plan reference Johnson. There, they're giving conservative
- 46:38voters a group ideology to look down on, and conservative voters are emptying their
- 46:44pockets for the party. I assume that's why the conservative politicians like the poorly
- 46:47educated so much. Texas says, I heard Putnam County schools are no longer
- 46:52allowing their students to go outside when when precipitation is in the air, out
- 46:58of fear the students will see a rainbow in the sky. In turn game,
- 47:02tex says, I'll tell you why I want an LGBTQ poster or a
- 47:07flag at a school. It shows a kid who's LGBTQ that they matter and
- 47:10they have a right to exist. This impacts my family. Stop thinking kids
- 47:14are so stupid that if they see that, if they see a flag or
- 47:16poster, they'll be turned LGBTQ. Forty percent of LGBTQ kids contemplate suicide if
- 47:24a flag or poster alleviates this, then do it. What do you say
- 47:29to the kid who feels they don't belong, aren't safe being themselves, and
- 47:31have no one to turn to? According to a Texture Textas says, teachers
- 47:37and administrators should ensure all children feel safe at school. If they need a
- 47:42flag or banner to make some people feel safe, then maybe they aren't doing
- 47:45a very good job in the classroom. Tex says, we know who these
- 47:50teachers are. They are AFT activists that have moved into Putnam County from Kanawa
- 47:53County because a Putnam's higher pay scale. The president of the Putnam AFT and
- 47:59the statewide AFT president, Fred Albert attended the Putnam BOE meeting their radical left
- 48:04us and they must be defeated at all costs. According to a text or

- 48:12locations along I sixty four and they're hiring for both licensed and technically trained staff.

- 48:19show tomorrow, Delegate and candidate for Governor Moore Capital will be on the show
- 48:22to more. Also, Delegate Dana Farrell on this transfer rule in high school
- 48:27sports and which saw Friday night with some of those scores that happened, were
- 48:34some of those scores because of the transfer rules. Some say yes, I'm
- 48:36say no. Delegate Nana Ferrell is an educator and he's someone that feels very
- 48:40strongly that we got to change what the legislature and acted of which he is
- 48:45a member of. And he's going to join us to talk about that on
- 48:47the show tomorrow plus more on this weekends Putnam County homecoming as well. All
- 48:52right, so another story now for Putnam County, this one from the City
- 48:55of Hurricane. Hurricane City Council unanimously pass asked an ordinance last night to prohibit
- 49:01minors from attending quote live adult performances. Now, the ordinance states that anyone
- 49:10under eighteen would be prohibited from attending a performance defined as again quoting obscene and
- 49:19depicting sexual or lewd conduct in quotes. Now, this is similar to an
- 49:28ordinance that was passed by the Putnam County Commission back in June. So what
- 49:36has caused all this? And normally boring Putnham County? And I say that
- 49:40with love because I lived there. I like I like boring This all comes
- 49:46because some people in the community, some church groups, etc. Were upset
- 49:53about a drag show that was put on in Valley Park. And for old
- 50:00guys like me, you're like, well, they're just racing cars. No,
- 50:01that's not that kind of drag show. It's a totally different kind.
- 50:05It was put on in Valley Park by the Putnam Pride Organization. Now I
- 50:13was not at the event. I know people who were. I know people
- 50:16involved with the Putnam Pride organization, also know people that were involved in the
- 50:20protesting of such that were very upset about that event. But from what I
- 50:27am told here and again I wasn't there. But from what I'm told,
- 50:34there is nothing that happened there that could be considered quoting, obscene or depicting
- 50:43lewd conduct. So if that is the case, it's going to happen again
- 50:49next year, and the organizers have already said they fully intend on having it.
- 50:52And that's actually would be the third year. I think I said the
- 50:54second and somebody texted when we were talking about a couple of months ago and
- 50:59correct me. I think it is actually the third year. So there is
- 51:01there is plenty This is this coming up would be the third year, I
- 51:04think, so it's gonna happen again. And and you know my take on
- 51:09the whole thing. And I got in trouble with some people because I have
- 51:12a tendency to do that. I managed to make both sides of every argument
- 51:15angry. So it must mean I'm doing my job. I'm not into drag
- 51:20shows myself, so I simply don't go. I mean, it's pretty simple.
- 51:27If you don't like sports, you're probably not gonna go to a baseball
- 51:29game. Well, I'm not into drag shows. I'm not against right,
- 51:32I don't. I don't care. I literally really don't care what it is
- 51:37that people do. And I just I don't go. So and when it
- 51:42goes to court, and it is going to go to court, do you
- 51:44sit in the county? You're gonna lose. And again, this is kind
- 51:49of where we are. So I just I just said we don't go.
- 51:53Thanks to day. What happened to the conservative ideal that parents know what's best
- 51:57for their child? I guess Putnam County is full of socialists to think the
- 52:00government should dictate what's best for parents children, says a texture, and that
- 52:04text would be the last one day, all right, Thank you so much
- 52:06to all my guests, Shusy Salisbury from the Alliance and the folks from Minks
- 52:08Realty for stopping by as well today my producer Hollywood Jeff Petty, thank you
