- Mindy: Hey everybody, it's Mindy. I'm back, but this time on a podcast. My first episode. Welcome to the show. And it's called Mindy's Minute. What else would it be called? Of course it's going to be called Mindy's Minute. And basically, it's your local favorite morning show girl in Brevard County. Everything you've loved to hear to make your day brighter. People kept asking me, what's the podcast going to be about? It's all the features you loved on the morning show in 20 minutes. So if you're driving to work, all you got to do is put in the podcast and listen to it on your way to work. at work, maybe you're on your lunch hour, you got 20 minutes. That's it. All little bite sized morsels of all your favorite features. For example, the top three things you need to know. The morning mindbender, Mindy's Minute, feel good story of the day. We're throwing in what's trending, which is basically like surveys or what's hot right now so that you know, and be in the know, upcoming charity events. And of course, funny stories about my family. It wouldn't be, you know, Mindy's Minute without All the information about my family. And please follow me on Instagram @mindyonair and on Facebook @mindylevy Yeah, we're gonna try to make you smile today because that's the number one goal, right? It's always been smiling. and keeping you laughing in the car. So let's kick it off with the top three things you need to know for the week of August 27th. Now that the kids are back in school, I know you're feeling it, so am I. Traffic, Wickham Road, Pineda Causeway, Palm Bay Road. Yeah, Courtenay, forget it. You can't even drive on Courtenay. So during the first full school year in 2025, 2026, Brevard County Sheriff's Office mailed nearly 18,000 violation notice notices. About 400 school buses have cameras that can detect cars passing when the stop arms are extended. So when the school bus stops, you're supposed to stop. People are just blasting through that. The top location here in Brevard County for tickets, the 500 block of North Wickham Road in Melbourne. Over a thousand thousand violation notices were issued in that area. Great news for Brevard County. And behind the scenes, I know the city of Cocoa has been working on this for years. The U.S. Department of Transportation will award a $56 million grant to help fund the construction of a proposed Bright Line station in Cocoa. Cocoa is also throwing in $5 million. You know, right now there are no stops in Brevard. they're going through Brevard. We always know that. 70 miles an hour, but now we are actually gonna get a stop. City leaders said that the stop could bring up to $350 million in economic impact each year and generate nearly $30 million in annual tax revenue. Now, here's how I see it: a lot of people are on either side. If I want to go to a Miami Dolphins game, and I don't feel like driving, have you driven to Miami lately? No, the worst. So now get on the bright line here in Cocoa, go see a Miami Dolphins game and come back for dinner. Yeah, I think that's very cool. So well done. Cocoa Mayor Mike Blake. I know they've been working the whole staff on that in the last couple of years. This Sunday, a SpaceX Falcon heavy rocket will launch NASA's Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope. It's gonna be lifting off about seven twenty six in the morning from Kennedy Space Center. And I know it's the top three things you need to know, but I have to throw in a kicker. good. Chocolate. by the way, speaking of chocolate and Halloween, I was at BJ's here on Merritt Island shopping the other day. The Christmas trees are up. Christmas trees. It's August, right? It is August. Okay, not that I'm complaining, but just saying. It's still 102 heat index out there. Hershey is starting to roll out its Halloween candy, including its popular Halloween pumpkins. there's so Hershey will produce 26 million Reese's peanut butter and chocolate pumpkins for Halloween this year. It's funny, you can't just eat one. I bring the bag home with my husband. Let me just have one. We'll have a treat after dinner. The bag's gone the next day. The top three things you need to know. And in a few seconds, why my mom just got a new phone. It's not the first time. It won't be the last. That story's coming up next. Got a phone call from a number from my mom's first name and last name. So I thought it was spam. Thought it was gonna get fraud and scammed. And so called again and I was like, huh, okay, this is weird. I answered the phone and she's like, hello, I got a new phone and phone number. Mama, why? She's like, I got a good deal. That's what she said. She got a good deal. And it's gonna last five years. Mom, nothing lasts five years. In about six months is gonna be a new deal. No, no, no. I got a good deal. I got a new phone, a new phone number. But can you help me set it up? Have the I know this has happened to you, right? Always asking, can they help you set it up? My mom lives like two blocks from me. But my brother lives in Daytona. So he actually drove down to fix a couple of things because she got everything new. And so he fixed her with that. Then he hit tag, you're it. You gotta finish the phone. So Facebook, she needs that because she needs that. The best thing about podcasting is that she has no idea. How to find me on podcast. On the radio, she would always just turn turn on the station and listen. And then I get yelled at afterwards, like, why do you always have to talk about me? Now I can talk about her as much as I want because she has no idea what podcast is and where it is. She'll ask about it and I'll just let her hear a first couple seconds. Not this part. Is that a bad daughter? Of course that's a bad daughter. I know. So I I have to go over there and fix her phone, put Facebook on there, and then all the little things that she likes, and then teach her how to repost. and then she asked me about the phone number. Because it's a new number, she said, it automatically tells everyone. Nope. No, it doesn't. I said, Mom, it doesn't do it. You gotta call every single person on your contact list and tell them that you have a new number. I really I was like, Yeah. okay. Your doctors, your friends, your family. Yeah. So has it happened to you? Do you get those phone calls that tell you to fix my Facebook? Fix my phone. The stories have not changed. The family's still there. Mm-hmm. Big shout out to mom. She's doing the best that she can. Rest of the family's doing great. My husband's doing wonderful, by the way. If you just want to know. He's my interior decorator here. I've always used the office as a studio, but I've only used it for audio and not a visual. You should have seen the office. It's in the hallway right now. But yeah, he's a designer. He's he's designing everything. Every time I turn around, he's doing something. And we we were getting half of this room done. He's he's fixing that part so you'll be able to see some cool stuff. And he's also producer and my cheerleader. You might see him walk in here. Out of 26 years on the radio, you've never seen him, right? Yeah. You only seen like maybe he's like the Punxsu tawney Phil, the groundhog that just comes out once a year. Now he's like in here like the engineer. So I'm like, okay, he'll even open the and I'll be like, go. I love him so much. He's done so much for me. And yeah, he did all this behind me. So wanna thank him for that. And more to come, by the way. All right. Coming up next, we're gonna be talking about the Morning Mind bender. A question you could take to work with ya. Now it's time for the Morning Mindbender. Here's your question for today. Take it to work with you. Maybe talk to your kids in the car. Ask them the question. Or maybe you have a meeting in the conference room and everyone gets awkward when you first sit down. Ask the question. You never know. People might just get engaged with this. So here's the question. At work, one in three people have admitted that they have experienced this. Can you guess what it is? I'll give you a clue. I have a new job, y'all know, right? So on the first couple of days that I showed up, I Brought in donuts. you know what you bring in donuts. All I got was who brought in the donuts? It was me. Really, Mindy? I'm on a diet. You're gonna get us fat. Now I've known these people for a very long time. So was like, I'm trying to be nice. that's not how they talk, but that's how I talk in my head. So then by the end of the day, the box, there was nothing left. An empty box. So the donuts were a hit. You know, they were complaining about it, but that was it. You know, sometimes you just gotta bring in treats to work to your coworkers. So this leads into the answer to the question hint. When you bring in your food to work, usually you put your name on it and then, you know, put it in the fridge. And then sometimes coworkers get a little peckish trying to find out a little something, something, you know, maybe they didn't bring in their lunch and they're very hungry and they want something. So sometimes they'll go into something else. They shouldn't. Found that very weird, but some people do it. So I hope that hint helps. I don't know. All right. So at work, one in three people have admitted that they have experienced this. Can you guess what it is? If you know the answer, you can post it on @mindyonair or on Facebook @mindlevy There'll be a photo there or, you know, one of the reels there. So once you see it, you know, answer the question. And then next Thursday, we'll give you a shout-out. We'll give you a shout out on the people that have gotten it correct. If it's all of you, you only get a few shout-outs. Remember, I only get 20 minutes. Are you ready for Mindy's Minute? I miss this so much. All entertainment that you need, and that is coming up right now. Coming up next, the topic of the day. What's the weirdest thing you've ever eaten? And this conversation comes up because, again, new job, new coworkers. I get to talk about new people. That's coming up now. The topic of the day, what's the weirdest thing you've ever eaten? And this comes from a story. At work, we were at lunch and someone mentioned that they like spam. Okay. I know a lot of people eat spam. If you're from Hawaii, that's that's a tradition right there. And then they showed us the picture. And I said to myself, huh, it doesn't say spam. I don't know what label that was. And I don't even know what brand that was. And then, you know, the contents were like, are you sure that's spam? And they were saying, I love it. Okay. I I didn't say anything. Okay. Believe it or not. everyone else was giving him feedback, and the feedback was, you know, different. So I felt bad because I made a face. Now being in radio, you don't get a video. So you just make faces anyway. So now that there's a video, you'll see my face. And when he said it and I saw the picture, I'm like, huh, that's not spam. First thing he said, Mindy which they like to say that a lot at my two jobs. Mindy, don't judge. I'm like, I'm not judging. I saw your face. So apparently I make lots of faces. And I said, Okay, okay, no, no, I'm not judging. I'm not judging. So I felt bad. So I turned around. I said, Well, you know, we're talking about weird stuff to eat. I eat head cheese. Nobody knew what that was except for the girl next to me. And she's like, I know what that is. And I'm like, Yeah, let them look it up. You don't if you want to look it up, that's up to you. If you wanna Google it, all I'm just saying, don't do it before lunch or after lunch. I grew up eating it. That's the whole idea. I grew up gre eating head cheese on sourdough bread. And it was just something that we always ate. And hey, believe it or not, the Publix here on North Courtenay had a boar's head version of it. And it was so good. They don't have it anymore because I asked, embarrassing myself. Cause if you really know what it is, you'll never eat it. Anything that's jelly-like. You're not gonna like. I love it. I I think it's great, but yeah. Mm-mm. So what's the weirdest thing you've ever eaten? And go ahead and post it on Instagram @mindyonair or on Facebook @mindylevy And then we'll we'll do a whole list on my next podcast next Thursday. And if any of you do eat head cheese, I'm curious. Yeah, you don't want to admit it. Coming up next, what's trending? Do you believe in aliens? Most of us do. And especially here on the Space Coast, there's a survey out that just came out. We'll tell you about it now. What's trending? Survey of the day? Let's give it to you. More reporting on UFOs is making more people believe in aliens, according to a new survey. The survey conducted by Talker Research found that the rise in belief is especially among Gen Z. Overall, 34% say they are more inclined to believe in aliens after news coverage of UFOs, compared to 54% of younger Americans. More than half of people say their opinions about aliens haven't changed. My whole thing is we live on the Space Coast. I've been grew up here. If you drive over the Barge Canal on Merritt Island and you head north, past Space Shirts. Now giving a shout-out to them, it gets a little in the middle of the night. I used to do a lot of coverage on launches in the middle of the night and overnight. Coming back, I just kept 10 and 2 on the wheel and like keep going, keep going. It's dark. You know, you can see Bigfoot out there. I'm telling you, there's something going on out there. I I'm just saying we can't be the only ones here. I'm not a conspiracy theorist or whatever you want call it, but we can't be alone. I know, I feel like Mulder from X Files. Cause seriously, we can't be the only ones, right? The only problem is is that this day and age, it's like it's like Bigfoot. You can take a picture of it. Why is it always blurry? And it's like the UFO, why is it always blurry? Yeah, we got cameras everywhere and really good ones too. So that is our survey of the day and what's trending. Coming up, local events and charity events that you can be a part of. And big thank yous because we had two of them in the past week, and it was amazing. We'll tell you about it. Now let's get local. I want to give a big thank you for everyone that came out last Thursday night in West Melbourne at our kickoff for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Brevard Walk. We always start the kickoff early months before the walk October 24th at the Avenue Viera because you know people got to get their campaigns going, start raising money, put their teams together. And it was just a night of pure love. Pink love, I guess I want to say. A big thank you to our presenting sponsor, Health First. Their table was there. Our guest speaker was one of the guests that were from their table. It was just an amazing night. we had musical trivia, the food, the giveaways, the raffles, and getting everyone prepared to raise money. And if you weren't there, that's okay. You can start a team at work with your family, with your friends, and you know, ask yourself, you know, why do you walk? Do you walk because you have someone that you know that went through breast cancer? Have you gone through the journey? Do you know someone at work? Maybe your family members. I mean, why I walk. I'll share my story closer to October, but it's it touches my heart because I do it every single year. I always emce it. And what, 20 something years? And it's just an amazing day, and we want everyone to be involved, especially when we do the breast cancer survivor walk across the stage where they get their medals. I mean, we salute them and it's just an inspirational morning. So if you have not gotten a chance to sign up, you can. The link is at Instagram. At mindyonair and on Facebook @mindylevy. We'd love to see you out there. But start campaigning now and get some great ideas so that you can raise money for the walk in October. Also, what's incredible is the night at the Brevard Humane Society's 15th annual Tuxes and Tales Gala. That was Saturday night. The theme was Wicked for Good, F-U-R. And it took place at the Radisson at the port. My family was there. a couple of new coworkers came over. So it was such a fun night. It really was. It was presented, it was sold out, and it was presented by Subaru of Melbourne. I just love them. They're like family. Brett and Mark, just good people. And you know, you just meet people and you just know they're good. They love animals as much as we do here in Brevard. And you know, Subaru of Melbourne is located on 192. And the what they do is every holiday between November and December. They do share the love event and they pick a charity of their choice and they always pick the Brevard Humane Society. And at the end of the year, they collect all the funds from there. So they presented the check on Saturday night. It was about almost $34,000. Isn't that amazing? So excited for them. And so, you know, giving back to the community is such a big thing. And Subaru of Melbourne always does it. They always step up to the plate, especially helping our very own Brevard Humane Society. I know they're remodeling And helping homeless pets get adopted out. It's very important. So it was dinner, live entertainment, a big shout out to the Cocoa Village Playhouse players. They did music from Wicked Singing. That's not easy. It was so good. Yeah, so check out their season, please. The talent is just above and beyond here in Brevard. we had a live and silent auction. A big thank you to Spectrum News 13 Greg Pallone for helping me out with a live auction. And then we had a special surprise. A special auctioneer, Sheriff Wayne Ivey, came out. Yeah, and he's my new boss. We had a great time. He and I have been doing this for years, doing charity events with the live auction. So thank you for him to come out. He is as as as passionate as I am about community events here in Brevard County. And he was there and he had a great time. So did we. It was just a lot of fun. And remember you can always donate to our Humane Society at brevardhumane society dot org. Now let's get to the end of this episode with our local feel good story of the day. It's gonna be a shout out to two local principals. Here's our local feel-good story of the day. A big congratulations to Miss Beth Myers, formerly of Riviera Elementary School, and is now the principal of Creel Elementary, on being named Brevard School's Principal of the Year. Congratulations to her for 2025-2026. And a big shout out to Mr. Brian Callinan formerly assistant principal at Bayside High, and now the assistant principal at Eau Gallie High School, Go Commodores. And I'm only gonna give you that because I'm a Mel High Grad right here. Go Bulldogs. And being assistant principal of the year for 2025 and 2026. Congratulations.
