- 0:00Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett. All right. Well, it's been
- 0:08Speaker 1: a busy week here at One Leg Up Alex Media.
- 0:10Speaker 1: So busy, I haven't even had time to do much
- 0:12Speaker 1: on this podcast because of some taking care of some
- 0:16Speaker 1: health stuff and all that. But we're back on the grid.
- 0:19Speaker 1: And who else to come back on the grid with
- 0:21Speaker 1: but the one and only Lou Terminello. It's Terminello's take
- 0:24Speaker 1: once again.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Hey, Louie. Hey, Alex. I hope you're feeling well.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Thanks for having me. And there's a.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Lot to talk about.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Well, if it's turtleneck weather, you know it's cold out.
- 0:34Speaker 1: We got the Nor'easter going on. But that Nor'easter kind
- 0:38Speaker 1: of blew in earlier this week after the Meadowlands MetLife Stadium.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Giants fans, though they were in L.A., got a big
- 0:47Speaker 1: shock that Jackson Dart injures his knee, tears his knee.
- 0:53Speaker 1: What a devastating play. Let's start there, Louie, on Monday night.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Yeah, the NFL is unforgiving when it comes to injuries.
- 1:01Speaker 2: And that's a huge blow for the Giants this year.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Not so much that they're going to be a Super
- 1:08Speaker 2: Bowl contender or anything like that. Dart needs to play,
- 1:12Speaker 2: get his reps in, and now he's not going to
- 1:14Speaker 2: get the reps for the remaining 15 games. And that hurts.
- 1:22Speaker 1: You see him grabbing his knee and he just had
- 1:24Speaker 1: some really bad luck over the last first couple of
- 1:27Speaker 1: years of his career. This is only his first couple
- 1:28Speaker 1: of years of his career and he's had some bad
- 1:30Speaker 1: luck already.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Yeah. And yeah, it's unfortunate, especially coming off his best
- 1:36Speaker 2: game of his, of his first 14 games against the
- 1:41Speaker 2: Cowboys the week before you want to see how that
- 1:45Speaker 2: would translate into the second game. And obviously the, We
- 1:49Speaker 2: don't want to see anybody get hurt. But Alex, we're
- 1:52Speaker 2: in the second week of the season. We're approaching week three.
- 1:55Speaker 2: We actually started week three on Thursday night with Atlanta
- 1:59Speaker 2: destroying Green Bay, which that was really weird.
- 2:02Speaker 1: We know Penix Jr. had a lot of potential, and
- 2:05Speaker 1: he's finally been able to show it.
- 2:09Speaker 2: But now you have Williams who's injured.
- 2:11Speaker 3: You have Jaden Daniels who's injured.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Donald is coming back tomorrow. He missed basically the first
- 2:17Speaker 2: two games. Um, but in the Giants case, uh, now again, this,
- 2:25Speaker 2: this is not, they're not going to be handed a
- 2:26Speaker 2: Lombardi trophy, but different because they have a, um, a
- 2:33Speaker 2: coach who's gone through quarterback injuries, even with, uh, um,
- 2:39Speaker 2: you know, with Lamar, um, he's had to use Tyler
- 2:42Speaker 2: Hundley a couple of times in the past. And, uh,
- 2:48Speaker 2: If this disaster was going to happen, the Giants have
- 2:52Speaker 2: the right coach to get them through. And again, their
- 2:55Speaker 2: schedule coming up is not a killer. Tennessee at home tomorrow,
- 2:59Speaker 2: they're favored. And then they have Washington.
- 3:03Speaker 1: $ 20 for tickets for that. And I know that's because
- 3:05Speaker 1: of the rain. And it's probably because Dart's not playing. Because,
- 3:09Speaker 1: you know, Dable's return is notable. And so is Salah's
- 3:12Speaker 1: to an extent. But we'll see.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Alex, they almost knocked off the Eagles last week. They
- 3:18Speaker 2: came within 35 seconds, 50 seconds of.
- 3:22Speaker 3: Knocking off the Eagles.
- 3:23Speaker 2: And Alex, the one thing we have learned, talked about
- 3:29Speaker 2: in the past, and I hate to drive it home again.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Nobody knows what's going to happen next week in the NFL.
- 3:37Speaker 2: The Bears score 59 points the first week. They scored
- 3:41Speaker 2: three last week. And it's not that Caleb Williams got
- 3:44Speaker 2: hurt in the first quarter. He got hurt in the
- 3:46Speaker 2: fourth quarter against a very good defense in the Minnesota Vikings.
- 3:51Speaker 2: So it's a week. It sounds so cliche. It's a
- 3:56Speaker 2: week-to-week league. But, Alex, it's a week-to-week league. You don't
- 4:00Speaker 2: know who's going to get hurt. You just don't know.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Are you playing the team at the right time? Because
- 4:08Speaker 2: they might be a little banged up on not playing
- 4:11Speaker 2: so well.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Well, that's really what I thought the Giants were going
- 4:15Speaker 1: to be able to capitalize on because the Rams had
- 4:18Speaker 1: just lost by 20 points in Australia. I didn't know
- 4:23Speaker 1: if they'd be able to recover, but they did recover
- 4:25Speaker 1: on Monday night and they win. And by the way,
- 4:29Speaker 1: They needed to do something because I know there were
- 4:31Speaker 1: a lot of criticism about how they got there 27
- 4:33Speaker 1: hours before. I don't understand that one. And McVay's coaching
- 4:38Speaker 1: was a little lax there. You know, and with Stafford's
- 4:41Speaker 1: retirement buzz now happening and all that, this is a
- 4:44Speaker 1: big year for them, and I think it's a big
- 4:45Speaker 1: year for McVay. So I guess they had to beat
- 4:47Speaker 1: the Giants to prove, hey, there's still a contender here.
- 4:51Speaker 1: I think they are. But just focusing on this Jackson
- 4:56Speaker 1: Dart injury, you're right. Thank God of hardball. But also,
- 5:00Speaker 1: they're saying he's going to try and have a Mahomes-like return, which,
- 5:04Speaker 1: I don't know, it's very risky. That injury did not
- 5:07Speaker 1: look easily returnable, I'll tell you that much.
- 5:12Speaker 2: I would agree with that.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Now, again, he loves to play.
- 5:15Speaker 2: He's a competitor. And that's one of the top things
- 5:18Speaker 2: that we saw in his first 14 games, the.
- 5:23Speaker 3: First 12 last year, and a game and a possession.
- 5:28Speaker 3: of this year. The guy loves to play. He's a competitor.
- 5:31Speaker 2: And I think that's infectious to the rest of the team.
- 5:34Speaker 2: And I think the rest of the team felt that
- 5:36Speaker 2: when he went down, the air went out of the balloon. Alex,
- 5:40Speaker 2: I don't think the Rams played that great the other night.
- 5:42Speaker 2: I'm going to be honest with you. Um, yeah, I
- 5:44Speaker 2: know they were playing without a couple of guys too,
- 5:46Speaker 2: but that's the league. Uh, the one thing I could
- 5:48Speaker 2: tell you, Devante Adams is not over that hill. I mean,
- 5:53Speaker 2: he could still run those patterns and, uh, He's excellent.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Excellent receiver still. Future Hall of Famer. But the Giants
- 6:04Speaker 2: will be okay. Look, Jameis Winston was horrible last week.
- 6:11Speaker 2: And the game plan was not developed for Jameis Winston.
- 6:15Speaker 2: It was developed for Jackson Dart, who runs more, who's
- 6:18Speaker 2: more athletic.
- 6:21Speaker 3: But this week, the game plan.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Is going to be designed... with James Winston as their quarterback.
- 6:26Speaker 2: I don't think it's going to be easy game. You know,
- 6:29Speaker 2: it's that they're two and a half point, three point favorites.
- 6:31Speaker 3: They're at home.
- 6:32Speaker 2: The weather's going to be crummy. They're going to have
- 6:34Speaker 2: to run the football. So I think you'll see a
- 6:36Speaker 2: lot of Scadaboo and Singletary and the Tracy. They have
- 6:42Speaker 2: a great chance to win tomorrow.
- 6:43Speaker 3: You know, that, that's sure.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Now, and look, to be honest with you on Sunday,
- 6:49Speaker 1: I would, and Monday, And really the last couple of
- 6:52Speaker 1: weeks with the MLB playoff race, that's been my focus. Like,
- 6:54Speaker 1: you know, just seeing the Yanks finally clinch, seeing Howie
- 6:57Speaker 1: Rose's final game, that's been on my mind. I mean,
- 7:00Speaker 1: I did check in on week two and I checked
- 7:03Speaker 1: in on the Jets. I don't know if you want
- 7:05Speaker 1: to call it an implosion, but they were up 10.
- 7:07Speaker 1: They lose in overtime. But were you encouraged, even though
- 7:10Speaker 1: they lost by, you know, they gave up that 10-point lead,
- 7:14Speaker 1: are you encouraged by what you're seeing the first two weeks.
- 7:16Speaker 2: In with them? Well, yes and no. I was encouraged because, again,
- 7:24Speaker 2: they looked organized for the second straight week.
- 7:28Speaker 3: Yes, I know at the end of regulation, I would
- 7:32Speaker 3: have called timeout.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Aaron Glenn did not, and he allowed the Packers to
- 7:38Speaker 2: have the opportunity to throw an alley-oop, but Jordan Love
- 7:43Speaker 2: was sacked on the last play of regulation. Kicking off
- 7:46Speaker 2: first or receiving first, really doesn't, you can go either
- 7:50Speaker 2: way on that. The statistics don't show one has an
- 7:53Speaker 2: advantage over the other.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Especially now that one score does not end the game.
- 7:57Speaker 1: You have to actually, yeah.
- 7:58Speaker 2: The only thing is, if you take the ball second,
- 8:02Speaker 2: if you defer, if you go in and toss, you know,
- 8:07Speaker 2: so say if team A scores a touchdown or field goal,
- 8:12Speaker 2: you have the four downs. When you go first, when
- 8:16Speaker 2: you reach the ball first, You may not go for
- 8:20Speaker 2: that fourth down, depending on where you are on the field.
- 8:23Speaker 2: That's the big difference. But I'm not going to kill
- 8:26Speaker 2: them for that. The Jets should have won the game.
- 8:28Speaker 2: They were the better team last week. That 42-43 yard
- 8:33Speaker 2: pass interference call after they went up 17-7.
- 8:34Speaker 3: Oh, I hate that call. Yeah.
- 8:39Speaker 2: They got to change that, Alex. It should be like
- 8:41Speaker 2: the college rule, 15 yards. That's one of two NFL rules,
- 8:45Speaker 2: in my opinion, that they have to change. That one,
- 8:47Speaker 2: I mean, that got the Packers right back in the game,
- 8:50Speaker 2: and they didn't do anything. And it was a ticky-tack
- 8:53Speaker 2: foul anyway.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Yeah, of course.
- 8:54Speaker 2: And the other one, defensive holding, where it could be
- 8:58Speaker 2: third and 19, and.
- 9:00Speaker 3: It's holding, it's five yards and an automatic first down.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Alex, make it 10 yards, but no automatic first downs.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Those two rules drive me crazy. And then the thing
- 9:10Speaker 2: that really lost the game for the Jets, and the
- 9:13Speaker 2: Jets special teams last year were excellent, as bad as
- 9:15Speaker 2: the Jets were last year.
- 9:18Speaker 3: They allowed a 63-yard punt return.
- 9:20Speaker 2: By Scott Moore, which set them up to tie the
- 9:24Speaker 2: game with a tying field goal. Last week was a
- 9:27Speaker 2: Jet loss that anybody who's watched the Jets for the
- 9:30Speaker 2: last 30 years, we've seen that loss before. And that's
- 9:33Speaker 2: the frustrating part for a Jet fan like myself and
- 9:37Speaker 2: for any of the loyal Jet fans that are addicted
- 9:40Speaker 2: to the pain of Jets football right now. And the
- 9:45Speaker 2: roster is better than last year. It is. But they
- 9:49Speaker 2: have a tough game tomorrow. Detroit, in their last 31
- 9:53Speaker 2: home games, has averaged over 32 points a game at home.
- 9:59Speaker 1: I'll tell you what. you what, that was a weird game.
- 10:03Speaker 1: They were at home two weeks ago, and I saw
- 10:05Speaker 1: that game. The Saints took them all the way down
- 10:08Speaker 1: to under a minute in overtime. I mean, when do
- 10:11Speaker 1: we see two minutes in overtime and two minutes in overtime?
- 10:13Speaker 1: We never really see that, so that was a little rare.
- 10:16Speaker 1: But the Lions won. But, yeah, it's going to be
- 10:19Speaker 1: competitive tomorrow. But it's just interesting, as I was talking
- 10:22Speaker 1: about a couple minutes ago, you know, these possession games
- 10:27Speaker 1: now are so different. You could go under a minute now,
- 10:29Speaker 1: it seems like. So it's just one of those things.
- 10:34Speaker 2: They would return the overtime to a 15-minute quarter instead
- 10:39Speaker 2: of 10, especially now that both teams are going to
- 10:43Speaker 2: get the ball no matter what. Right. After the first possession.
- 10:47Speaker 3: So I would like to see that change also.
- 10:49Speaker 1: And you think of all these rule changes, it's to
- 10:51Speaker 1: prevent player injury from being maximized. And yet, you know,
- 10:56Speaker 1: you play these in 10 minutes, they're going to go harder.
- 10:58Speaker 1: They're probably going to get injured a little more likely
- 10:59Speaker 1: in overtime. So I get your point on that too.
- 11:02Speaker 2: It's true.
- 11:03Speaker 1: You're right.
- 11:05Speaker 2: But the league is, the first two weeks have been
- 11:08Speaker 2: very interesting. Tampa 0-2. Tampa losing to Cleveland. Now that
- 11:15Speaker 2: is shocking. I think Todd Bowles is on the hot seat.
- 11:19Speaker 2: He's one of those coaches on the hot seat. He
- 11:23Speaker 2: might be the, he might be fired in season if
- 11:26Speaker 2: they don't turn it around.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Baker Mayfield too. They're hoping to really, you know, go
- 11:31Speaker 1: someplace with him. So we'll see what happens for me.
- 11:36Speaker 1: I mean, the Lee has been a weird start. So,
- 11:39Speaker 1: you know, with the giants not being on a Sunday, so,
- 11:42Speaker 1: Sometimes Zion fans don't focus in on Sunday as much
- 11:44Speaker 1: anymore if they're not on that night. But, you know, hey,
- 11:48Speaker 1: it's here. Week three is here already. I can't believe it.
- 11:51Speaker 1: I guess for me, because of my dad's Bears, I'm
- 11:53Speaker 1: focusing on them a lot, too. Caleb going down. Now,
- 11:55Speaker 1: this whole comparison of how weak Caleb looks because of
- 12:01Speaker 1: a hamstring versus Darter wants to go out there after.
- 12:03Speaker 1: I don't like these comparisons. They're different players, you know?
- 12:06Speaker 1: They really are.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Well, apparently they had to, like, basically... tie down Dart
- 12:12Speaker 2: and then drag him out of his uniform because he
- 12:15Speaker 2: wanted to come back in with the injury. But that's
- 12:18Speaker 2: the mentality that Jackson Dart is.
- 12:21Speaker 3: And I'm not criticizing Williams. Don't get me wrong.
- 12:23Speaker 2: I'm not.
- 12:24Speaker 3: I mean, I'm just focusing on Dart. You know, the,
- 12:29Speaker 3: you know, football.
- 12:31Speaker 1: And also, you know, in the NFC East, the Cowboys
- 12:34Speaker 1: needed a win last week because if they go down 0-2,
- 12:36Speaker 1: that would have been fascinating. But, you know, maybe we're
- 12:40Speaker 1: all even in this NFC East. Finally, we'll have to
- 12:42Speaker 1: see how it goes. Although I don't think the camp
- 12:44Speaker 1: commanders are going to stack up with the other three teams.
- 12:47Speaker 1: I just don't see that happening.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Alex. The NFC East from top to bottom.
- 12:55Speaker 2: I think it's closer than we think. I think, I
- 12:58Speaker 2: still think the Eagles have the best roster.
- 13:00Speaker 3: They pulled out a couple.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Once in the opening game against Washington, and scoring a
- 13:11Speaker 2: winning touchdown in Nashville last week.
- 13:15Speaker 3: I assume they'll play better.
- 13:17Speaker 2: I think they have the best roster, but I don't
- 13:22Speaker 2: think they're going to roll in that division easily. I
- 13:26Speaker 2: could be wrong. The Packers have problems. They should be 0-3,
- 13:31Speaker 2: not 1-2. That's right.
- 13:34Speaker 1: And Jordan Love is good, but I don't know. There's
- 13:37Speaker 1: something to that. There's some issues there.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Now, Go ahead. I'm sorry.
- 13:42Speaker 1: How about on the West Coast? You can tell me,
- 13:47Speaker 1: you know, Kirk Cousins is probably the reason why the
- 13:50Speaker 1: Raiders are where they're at right now, and he's seemingly
- 13:53Speaker 1: found his resurgence. But Tom Brady being part of that
- 13:57Speaker 1: organization is changing it. I mean, that's my perspective on it.
- 14:01Speaker 2: Again, I don't know how much of an influence he
- 14:04Speaker 2: has on the organization itself. I think he has some. But,
- 14:13Speaker 2: you know, they played well the first two games. And,
- 14:16Speaker 2: you know, they played in SoFi last week against the Chargers. Now,
- 14:20Speaker 2: of course, Harbaugh is not on our hot seat. No.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Even though they lost three games against the Cardinals and
- 14:27Speaker 2: the Raiders. 99.9% of any analytic formula, any computer, The
- 14:35Speaker 2: Chargers win both those games. And it was terrible.
- 14:40Speaker 3: I mean, it's really how bad they look.
- 14:47Speaker 1: A few times last week. I mean, it's not good.
- 14:50Speaker 2: All right.
- 14:52Speaker 1: And then what else is the NFL? That was what
- 14:54Speaker 1: came to mind because Kirk Cousins is a journeyman. He's
- 14:57Speaker 1: been trying to find his place since the whole Washington area.
- 15:00Speaker 1: He might have found it again. We'll have to see.
- 15:02Speaker 2: All right.
- 15:03Speaker 1: I want to talk about my article real quick called
- 15:05Speaker 1: For Pete's Sake, The Mets Finished Last. And I do
- 15:10Speaker 1: believe not re-signing Alonzo led to this collapse this year.
- 15:13Speaker 1: There's no way around it. And maybe David Stearns learns
- 15:16Speaker 1: from this.
- 15:16Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 15:19Speaker 3: Well, I hope David Stearns learns from this.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Alex.
- 15:23Speaker 2: The reason for this Mets season, we could break it down.
- 15:26Speaker 2: We've talked about it. But number one is not re-signing
- 15:29Speaker 2: Pete Alonso, who looks like, depending on what's going to
- 15:32Speaker 2: happen today and tomorrow, the final day of the Major
- 15:35Speaker 2: League Baseball season, like he's going to lead the American
- 15:38Speaker 2: League in home runs and in RBIs. You can't replace
- 15:42Speaker 2: that type of production, and the Mets most certainly have not.
- 15:46Speaker 2: So that's unforgivable. And as you said in your article.
- 15:51Speaker 3: on your blog, it's a fireable offense. Yes, it is.
- 15:55Speaker 3: To me, that's a fireable offense. That is the big thing.
- 16:01Speaker 2: But number two is the poor roster construction that we've
- 16:05Speaker 2: talked about, obviously.
- 16:07Speaker 3: With Simeon at second. And believe me, I'm not dumping
- 16:10Speaker 3: on Simeon. He's a pro.
- 16:13Speaker 2: He's a pro, but he's just not as good as
- 16:15Speaker 2: he was five years ago. He's 36 years old.
- 16:19Speaker 3: But he's a pro in every way, shape or form.
- 16:21Speaker 3: So I'm not bashing him.
- 16:24Speaker 2: And, you know, then the injury factor.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Yeah. You know, Soto, who plays 160 games every year,
- 16:31Speaker 1: played 111.
- 16:32Speaker 2: That means he missed 51 games. Lindor broke his wrist
- 16:41Speaker 2: before spring training, and then hurt his calf. He's been
- 16:45Speaker 2: injured all year. You're going to see a big bounce.
- 16:47Speaker 2: I'm going to predict a big bounce back here from
- 16:49Speaker 2: Lindor if he's healthy next year. Many times, something good
- 16:55Speaker 2: comes out of a disastrous season.
- 16:57Speaker 3: And believe me, I'm not sugarcoating it. Alex, and you
- 17:01Speaker 3: know I'm a Mets guy, this was a disastrous season.
- 17:06Speaker 2: But some good things came of it. A.J. Ewing. Carson
- 17:10Speaker 2: Bench has been terrific. Those four starters that they put in,
- 17:14Speaker 2: you know, during the course of the year, McClain, Christian Scott,
- 17:21Speaker 2: Tong is pitching here at the end of the season.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Stock was okay for a little bit.
- 17:27Speaker 2: And Zach Thornton. So those six rookies give Mets fans
- 17:31Speaker 2: some hope.
- 17:32Speaker 3: They have some.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Guys in the minor leagues, Jefferson Rojas, who they got–
- 17:38Speaker 2: You know, at the trade deadline from the Cubbies. Mitchell Voigt,
- 17:43Speaker 2: a second baseman who played in Class A Brooklyn most
- 17:46Speaker 2: of the year. And then I think at the end
- 17:49Speaker 2: of the last three or four weeks went to Binghamton.
- 17:52Speaker 2: He has a chance to make the team maybe sometimes
- 17:54Speaker 2: next year. And I like that they re-signed Andy Green.
- 17:59Speaker 2: They made him the permanent manager. I think that was
- 18:02Speaker 2: a good move. But again, they got him.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Since they're over the team, he's got the winning record
- 18:08Speaker 1: with them. And he's got them on shape, so we'll
- 18:11Speaker 1: have to see.
- 18:12Speaker 2: By the record.
- 18:13Speaker 1: I don't want.
- 18:14Speaker 2: To be fooled by the record, but he kept them interested.
- 18:19Speaker 3: Competitive.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Now, I'm sure, I know you're not like this, but
- 18:25Speaker 1: Mets fans, I'm sure, are waiting to see what happens
- 18:27Speaker 1: down the turnpike because the Phillies are in trouble. And
- 18:31Speaker 1: I thought we were going to have a stacked wild
- 18:34Speaker 1: card with the Cubs playing the Phillies, and I guess
- 18:37Speaker 1: Padres at the time were still in this, but now
- 18:40Speaker 1: it all feels shaken on the second to last day
- 18:43Speaker 1: of the year. What has happened down in our city
- 18:46Speaker 1: of brotherly love, Louie?
- 18:49Speaker 3: Well, the Phillies have stopped hitting.
- 18:51Speaker 2: They stopped hitting, and really in a lot of the fundamentals,
- 18:56Speaker 2: they're shaky. Base running, their bullpen besides Duran is up
- 19:02Speaker 2: and down, but most bullpens are up and down. Their
- 19:06Speaker 2: starting pitching is good. They got to hang on. And
- 19:09Speaker 2: I think they will. I think they will because Arizona
- 19:13Speaker 2: is playing San Diego and San Diego wants one more win.
- 19:16Speaker 2: So they get the wild card, the two out of
- 19:19Speaker 2: three at Petco Park.
- 19:21Speaker 3: So I think they'll get in.
- 19:24Speaker 2: But they're shaky. They go into the playoffs the shakiest
- 19:27Speaker 2: of any national.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Probably shakier than the last couple of years.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Just shaky.
- 19:31Speaker 1: And you know what's interesting to me is You can't
- 19:34Speaker 1: say the Dodgers are the best team going into the
- 19:36Speaker 1: postseason this year. The Brewers, 101 wins. The first 100-plus,
- 19:41Speaker 1: 100-win season for Milwaukee. I mean, they are probably a
- 19:46Speaker 1: little more favorite than the Dodgers, although maybe playoff experience
- 19:50Speaker 1: negates that. I don't know how that's going to play out,
- 19:51Speaker 1: but I do know the Dodgers are not the best
- 19:53Speaker 1: team going into it.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, the Dodgers will be favored in Vegas. They,
- 19:58Speaker 2: the Dodgers will be favored when the players begin. Now
- 20:03Speaker 2: you talk about a hundred win team. I'm going to
- 20:05Speaker 2: throw something at you that probably a lot of people
- 20:08Speaker 2: don't know. There's one franchise that has never lost 100
- 20:11Speaker 2: games in their history. And if they lose today and tomorrow,
- 20:16Speaker 2: they will join the other 29 major league teams that
- 20:19Speaker 2: have lost 100.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Is it Mike Trout's team?
- 20:22Speaker 3: Yes.
- 20:23Speaker 2: The Los Angeles Angels have never lost 100.
- 20:26Speaker 3: Games in their history. And they're at 98 right now.
- 20:31Speaker 2: And if they lose today and tomorrow, they will have
- 20:35Speaker 2: all 30 major league teams will have lost a hundred
- 20:38Speaker 2: games in the season. Just a little tidbit there.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Well, our colleague Thurman, who I'm going to shout out,
- 20:44Speaker 1: said he'd love that to end the Artie Moreno era
- 20:47Speaker 1: because obviously it would be such an indication of how
- 20:51Speaker 1: poorly ran he has run that franchise. And look, that's
- 20:54Speaker 1: in the storyline of this whole season is teams have
- 20:57Speaker 1: been sold this year. The Angels got sold. The Padres
- 21:00Speaker 1: got sold. I think the Rays have new ownership or
- 21:03Speaker 1: something like that. I mean, Teams have been switching hands,
- 21:05Speaker 1: and look what happened up here in the Bronx. Apollo
- 21:08Speaker 1: Entertainment Group buying a little more stake in the Yankees.
- 21:12Speaker 1: I mean, things are changing, Louie.
- 21:14Speaker 3: Things are changing. There's no doubt about it. Yeah, Moreno, he.
- 21:20Speaker 2: Just ran him into the ground as a team, but
- 21:24Speaker 2: he made so much money when he sold. And how
- 21:28Speaker 2: about the Pirates?
- 21:29Speaker 1: That's the next thing I want to see get sold,
- 21:30Speaker 1: because the way the Pirates have dealt with Paul Skeens,
- 21:33Speaker 1: who I don't know. Off year for him, for sure,
- 21:36Speaker 1: it seemed like. They have not managed him well at all.
- 21:41Speaker 2: Did you hear what he said?
- 21:41Speaker 1: I didn't catch that. I know he's been making way.
- 21:45Speaker 2: And McLean said this too.
- 21:47Speaker 3: Nolan McLean said this too.
- 21:49Speaker 2: They both were on Team USA for the World Baseball Classic.
- 21:55Speaker 2: And Skeen says having to pitch in a high leverage
- 22:00Speaker 2: game that early in March is the reason why his
- 22:02Speaker 2: velocity is down. But Nolan McClain said it also affected
- 22:08Speaker 2: him a little bit in the early part of the year.
- 22:11Speaker 2: And you know I am no fan of the World
- 22:13Speaker 2: Baseball Classic.
- 22:14Speaker 1: I know you don't.
- 22:15Speaker 2: You don't want to throw those things in there. But Alex,
- 22:17Speaker 2: I'm going to tell you, if the Pirates were in
- 22:19Speaker 2: the American League, they'd be in the playoffs.
- 22:22Speaker 1: And you said if the Yankees were in the National League,
- 22:23Speaker 1: they'd be out of the playoffs. So that's kind of interesting.
- 22:27Speaker 2: If the Yankees were in the National League, they would,
- 22:28Speaker 2: let's face it, we knew from Easter Sunday the Yankees
- 22:33Speaker 2: were in the playoffs. It's really been an uneventful Yankee season.
- 22:39Speaker 2: There was really no drama to it. We knew they
- 22:41Speaker 2: were going to be in the playoffs. I think if
- 22:43Speaker 2: they were in the National League, it would be like
- 22:46Speaker 2: what's going on between the Cubs.
- 22:47Speaker 1: So you've got to give Aaron Boone his flowers for
- 22:50Speaker 1: managing the way he has without Judge. And the fact
- 22:52Speaker 1: they did have 90-plus wins. And, you know, I'm not
- 22:55Speaker 1: always a fan of the guy. I come on here
- 22:56Speaker 1: and sometimes say whatever.
- 22:59Speaker 2: You're the first guy to have him on the chopping block.
- 23:02Speaker 1: But no, he's done a really good job navigating this team. Now,
- 23:06Speaker 1: a team that did go on the downswing, which, you know,
- 23:09Speaker 1: they were in the division route. They were in the
- 23:11Speaker 1: divisional lead in the central. And you thought Venable was
- 23:15Speaker 1: going to get manager of the year. He still might.
- 23:17Speaker 1: But the White Sox settling for third in the wildcard. Like,
- 23:20Speaker 1: how did that happen?
- 23:22Speaker 2: Well, this is what I got to say.
- 23:24Speaker 3: They lost by about 345 games over the last three years.
- 23:29Speaker 2: Anything that they did this year is an incredible positive
- 23:34Speaker 2: for them, even though they fall in the last couple
- 23:38Speaker 2: of weeks. If I was a White Sox fan, I
- 23:43Speaker 2: would be so happy of what's happened this year. They
- 23:46Speaker 2: can hit the baseball. I'm not sure how they're going
- 23:49Speaker 2: to be able to pitch in these playoffs, but no
- 23:51Speaker 2: matter what happens to the White Sox, it's been an
- 23:53Speaker 2: incredibly successful year for the White Sox.
- 23:58Speaker 3: I'd vote for him for manager of the year.
- 24:01Speaker 1: They brought in a Japanese player, which they rarely go
- 24:04Speaker 1: to the Midwest. They always go to LA or New York.
- 24:06Speaker 1: It's very rare they hit the Midwest like that, but
- 24:09Speaker 1: Murakami chose Chicago, and look how that changed, first of all.
- 24:12Speaker 1: They bring up Montgomery, who has been an incredible addition
- 24:16Speaker 1: to that team. He had a homer his first game
- 24:18Speaker 1: in or whatever, like to walk it off. I mean,
- 24:20Speaker 1: they've made moves this year, and I love the guy
- 24:23Speaker 1: Ben Attendee is your veteran presence on that team, for sure.
- 24:27Speaker 3: I think going into last night, he had 74 RBIs.
- 24:30Speaker 1: I mean....
- 24:33Speaker 2: Again, like I said about Simeon, the only thing, he's
- 24:36Speaker 2: more productive than Simeon. He's a pro.
- 24:38Speaker 3: He's a pro. And you've got to have guys like
- 24:40Speaker 3: that on your team.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Well, if I'm going to the south side, I might
- 24:43Speaker 1: as well go to the other side of Chicago because
- 24:44Speaker 1: my dad's Cubs are in it. And I was there
- 24:47Speaker 1: about a month ago to see Cubs 150. In their
- 24:50Speaker 1: 150th year, they make the postseason. And that's the other
- 24:54Speaker 1: part of the Pete's sake I was talking about. PCA, 40-40.
- 24:57Speaker 4: And....
- 25:01Speaker 1: You don't know what you're trading away five years ago, right?
- 25:03Speaker 1: You don't really know. But maybe the Mets keep their
- 25:06Speaker 1: prize prospects after seeing what PCA did in Chicago this year.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Again, and I think we talked about this the other
- 25:13Speaker 2: day off air, Joel Sherman had a great article during
- 25:17Speaker 2: the week in the Post, in his column, about teams
- 25:21Speaker 2: that traded prospects. And there were some that I didn't know.
- 25:25Speaker 2: Jordan Alvarez was traded from the Dodgers to the Astros
- 25:29Speaker 2: for a relief pitcher. and Jordan Alvarez is probably going
- 25:35Speaker 2: to be the American League MVP this year.
- 25:37Speaker 3: So you don't know. You don't know.
- 25:40Speaker 2: And at that time, the Mets had an interim general
- 25:45Speaker 2: manager in Zach Scott. He was looking to make a
- 25:47Speaker 2: splash to get the full-time job. You know, I'm not
- 25:51Speaker 2: going to kill the Mets on that one.
- 25:54Speaker 3: I'm really not. I'm going to kill the Mets for
- 25:56Speaker 3: not re-signing Pete Alonso. I'm sorry.
- 25:58Speaker 2: The Mets could.
- 26:00Speaker 1: You look at that kid. He's such an exciting player
- 26:01Speaker 1: to watch. He runs all over the place.
- 26:04Speaker 3: He hits.
- 26:04Speaker 1: He feels like a maniac half the time. I mean,
- 26:07Speaker 1: and Chicago loves him. And it was his first full year,
- 26:10Speaker 1: but they fell in love with him, Louie.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Alex, he's the best position player in baseball this year.
- 26:15Speaker 3: He's the best position player in baseball, in my opinion.
- 26:19Speaker 1: I'm going to fly out there for another event and
- 26:22Speaker 1: see his first three home run game.
- 26:23Speaker 2: But what are the odds of that?
- 26:24Speaker 1: You know, it's like unbelievable.
- 26:26Speaker 2: Timing, my dear friend.
- 26:27Speaker 3: It's all about timing. And you saw, you saw a
- 26:30Speaker 3: great event that day.
- 26:32Speaker 1: Well, let me ask you this here in the, here
- 26:35Speaker 1: in the Bronx. Well, I'm in Queens, but here in
- 26:37Speaker 1: the Bronx, I don't like the tension going on between
- 26:41Speaker 1: Boone and judge and the Yankees and judge the messaging
- 26:43Speaker 1: of whether he's playing or not. It doesn't look good
- 26:46Speaker 1: heading into the post season when your star captain is
- 26:48Speaker 1: like Chris, You know, saying everything that the Yanks are,
- 26:51Speaker 1: and then the Yanks are fighting with him. It doesn't
- 26:55Speaker 1: look good going into the postseason.
- 26:58Speaker 3: Well, of course, he's a competitor. He wants to play.
- 27:01Speaker 2: He's never, you know, not been gung-ho on playing. When healthy,
- 27:10Speaker 2: he's still the best player in the American League. But
- 27:12Speaker 2: as we move forward, he's going to be 35 next year.
- 27:16Speaker 2: And he's a big man. And he gets hurt a lot.
- 27:19Speaker 2: And he's, you know, he's missed a lot of time
- 27:22Speaker 2: over his career. I mean, you go back and 40
- 27:24Speaker 2: games this year, 45 another year. Even the year of
- 27:29Speaker 2: the ridiculous 60-game schedule.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:33Speaker 2: It's 32 to 60. And he's going to be 35.
- 27:37Speaker 2: And Alex, as the old saying goes, father time is undefeated.
- 27:40Speaker 2: I know.
- 27:41Speaker 1: And we'll talk about that in a second as well.
- 27:44Speaker 1: But you also look at what happened after that 2017
- 27:45Speaker 1: Home Run Derby. He was out for the next couple
- 27:48Speaker 1: of weeks because he screwed up his arm during the
- 27:50Speaker 1: whole thing. I mean, that was just.
- 27:54Speaker 1: It's frustrating. And of course, he doesn't have a ring yet.
- 27:57Speaker 1: And it'd be interesting if they won without him in
- 27:59Speaker 1: the postseason. That would be even more interesting of a storyline,
- 28:02Speaker 1: to be honest with you.
- 28:05Speaker 2: You know how I have been crapping on the American
- 28:07Speaker 2: League all year. You know that. And I think even
- 28:10Speaker 2: without the judge, I think the Yankees' path to getting
- 28:14Speaker 2: to the World Series... It's like a four-lane highway for
- 28:19Speaker 2: them and for Tampa. And again, remember at the trade deadline,
- 28:23Speaker 2: I criticized Tampa and Milwaukee for not going after Struble
- 28:27Speaker 2: and giving up some of their prospects. This was the
- 28:29Speaker 2: year Tampa had to do that. I think if they
- 28:32Speaker 2: had Struble, I think they would have gotten to the
- 28:37Speaker 2: World Series. I really do.
- 28:38Speaker 3: I mean, the American League is not as strong right now.
- 28:43Speaker 2: And then, and Tampa Bay, even with new ownership, I
- 28:45Speaker 2: don't think they're going to end up spending $ 275 million
- 28:48Speaker 2: on their payroll. Who knows?
- 28:50Speaker 3: Maybe when they get the new stadium in a couple
- 28:51Speaker 3: of years, I don't know, but this is it.
- 28:54Speaker 2: You've got to see the window of opportunity is now,
- 28:57Speaker 2: and you've got to seize that opportunity. That's how I feel.
- 29:00Speaker 1: When you're a star player, Chandler Simpson's having the career
- 29:02Speaker 1: of his life right now in, in Tampa.
- 29:04Speaker 2: All right.
- 29:05Speaker 1: This is where I want to ask you about nostalgia
- 29:07Speaker 1: because we're going to have an AOA, we're We're going
- 29:10Speaker 1: to have an MLB-Lee division winner at or under. 500.
- 29:16Speaker 1: When was the last time that happened, Lou Terminello?
- 29:21Speaker 2: Tomorrow will probably be the first time. Because if they
- 29:27Speaker 2: lose one more game, they'll be under. 500 for sure.
- 29:29Speaker 3: Either Texas or Houston.
- 29:31Speaker 2: Houston has a disbreaker. Yeah, it will be the first time.
- 29:36Speaker 2: Whether it's a division winner or even as a wildcard team.
- 29:42Speaker 2: That's just, it's, it's shocking.
- 29:43Speaker 1: And I think what they have to do in this
- 29:45Speaker 1: new bargaining agreement and say, we're not going to rank
- 29:48Speaker 1: these things by record, by, by division winners. You have
- 29:51Speaker 1: to go by record the Yankees and, and raise, if
- 29:54Speaker 1: you're going to do this right, should have the buy
- 29:56Speaker 1: weeks because they had the buy rounds because they had
- 29:58Speaker 1: the best records. Looking at this right now and seeing
- 30:03Speaker 1: a team is ranked higher than the Yankees at 79
- 30:08Speaker 1: and 81 is just hilarious to me.
- 30:12Speaker 2: Well, this is what I think they should do. I
- 30:15Speaker 2: know they want to keep the division winners and give
- 30:17Speaker 2: them what division winners get no matter what their record is,
- 30:20Speaker 2: but they're not receding. So the Boston Yankee winner is
- 30:26Speaker 2: going to play Tampa.
- 30:28Speaker 3: That's wrong.
- 30:29Speaker 2: Tampa should be playing, let's say, Houston. They should be
- 30:34Speaker 2: playing Houston. And the Boston Yankee winner should be playing
- 30:38Speaker 2: either the White Sox or Cleveland. The Yankees or Boston
- 30:44Speaker 2: should be playing Tampa Bay next after this two-out-of-three wild card.
- 30:48Speaker 2: That's what they really got to fix.
- 30:51Speaker 1: You're saying right now, instead of playing... So the number
- 30:54Speaker 1: one should really play the last of the... like the
- 30:59Speaker 1: sixth place or whatever you want to say of that.
- 31:01Speaker 1: I got what you're saying. Yeah. In other words, I
- 31:05Speaker 1: get what you're saying on that. So like, if it
- 31:08Speaker 1: was your way, the Yanks would then go and fly
- 31:12Speaker 1: to either Chicago or Cleveland. Right.
- 31:15Speaker 2: And Tampa Bay would play, would play, say, would play
- 31:19Speaker 2: Houston with Texas.
- 31:20Speaker 1: I don't think Houston survives a three game series, by
- 31:22Speaker 1: the way, if they make the post season as a
- 31:24Speaker 1: division winner, they are going to lose in the wild card.
- 31:26Speaker 1: I just see that happening.
- 31:27Speaker 2: I think you're right.
- 31:28Speaker 3: Even though anything can happen in two out of three,
- 31:30Speaker 3: we know that.
- 31:31Speaker 1: But they just don't have the makeup that they used
- 31:34Speaker 1: to have. I don't know if things have changed there.
- 31:36Speaker 2: Absolutely right. They don't have the makeup. They don't have
- 31:38Speaker 2: the players that they used to have.
- 31:39Speaker 1: Now, we're talking about tough football guys like Jackson Dart.
- 31:42Speaker 1: Bregman takes a foul ball to the face and he's
- 31:45Speaker 1: back in the lineup yesterday.
- 31:46Speaker 2: I was out and I came home and I turned
- 31:49Speaker 2: the game on and I saw him on deck.
- 31:51Speaker 1: That's a hockey mentality right there.
- 31:54Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 31:56Speaker 3: And speaking of hockey, it opens up in a couple
- 31:58Speaker 3: of days.
- 32:00Speaker 2: And I'm really interested in seeing what the final makeup
- 32:03Speaker 2: of these rosters of the three area teams, who gets.
- 32:06Speaker 3: Cut, who stays.
- 32:08Speaker 2: We talked about this, so I want to say that
- 32:10Speaker 2: we were.
- 32:11Speaker 3: Out in front of this.
- 32:12Speaker 2: This Albert Smith, who the Dodgers picked number five overall
- 32:18Speaker 2: from Latvia. We said then he might make the team
- 32:22Speaker 2: coming out of camp. And it looks like he has
- 32:24Speaker 2: a chance to make the team coming out of the camp.
- 32:26Speaker 2: So we'll know that I guess today or tomorrow.
- 32:29Speaker 1: And you said that on draft night, he has a chance.
- 32:31Speaker 2: I said that on draft night. And if he, if
- 32:35Speaker 2: he doesn't come up, if he doesn't start the season
- 32:38Speaker 2: with them, I bet he's, he comes up by American Thanksgiving.
- 32:44Speaker 1: Yeah. Now I know, I know it's not exciting news
- 32:49Speaker 1: or moves or whatever, but the Rangers did improve this offseason,
- 32:53Speaker 1: and I got to give Darius Flowers for that a
- 32:55Speaker 1: little bit. I think he did some moves, but it's
- 32:58Speaker 1: going to still be a process for the Rangers, will
- 33:00Speaker 1: it not? I mean, I feel like it's going to be.
- 33:03Speaker 2: Remember, the Rangers are going to be able to steal
- 33:06Speaker 2: some games because they have as good a goalie as
- 33:09Speaker 2: you could want in a National Hockey League in Sturgeon.
- 33:14Speaker 3: They'll be good.
- 33:16Speaker 2: I'm interested to see how, if the Islanders will finally,
- 33:20Speaker 2: after 10, 11 years, finally improve the power play, which
- 33:25Speaker 2: basically kept them out of the playoffs last year and
- 33:28Speaker 2: the year before, and probably cost them a chance to
- 33:30Speaker 2: win the Stanley Cup five years ago against Tampa.
- 33:36Speaker 1: That conference series is like still a.
- 33:38Speaker 2: Oh, that's a horror.
- 33:39Speaker 3: I mean, if they had one game seven there, well,
- 33:42Speaker 3: that was five years ago.
- 33:44Speaker 2: Um, and devils is Sheldon Keefe going to be the first,
- 33:48Speaker 2: I think he's, he's on the hot seat from the
- 33:49Speaker 2: beginning of the year. Um, is he going to be
- 33:52Speaker 2: the first coach fired? Is he going to turn it around? Uh,
- 33:57Speaker 2: what they're going to do about their goaltending? Are they
- 34:00Speaker 2: going to make, are going.
- 34:00Speaker 3: To try trade to, uh, uh, make up, make their
- 34:04Speaker 3: goaltending better.
- 34:06Speaker 2: Um, Connor Hellebuck is still suspended. He didn't report to Winnipeg.
- 34:10Speaker 2: Is he going to get traded before opening night? Is
- 34:12Speaker 2: he going to get traded in the first week of
- 34:13Speaker 2: the season? The first month of the season? Is he
- 34:16Speaker 2: going to sit out the whole season? Because he's got
- 34:19Speaker 2: three years left on his deal with Winnipeg. That makes
- 34:22Speaker 2: it very interesting. So I'm looking forward to the season.
- 34:25Speaker 2: It's just jumped on us starting September 28th. But I'm
- 34:29Speaker 2: really looking forward to the beginning of the NHL season.
- 34:34Speaker 2: Dylan Parkin still hasn't been traded. The Red Wings took
- 34:38Speaker 2: away his captaincy, and that was the right thing to do.
- 34:40Speaker 3: He has to be traded. He can't come back and
- 34:42Speaker 3: be captain. That's a different thing.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Well, let's stay in Detroit, because you mentioned Father Time
- 34:49Speaker 1: just a couple minutes ago. And he did a brief
- 34:52Speaker 1: stint with the Mets. But what a career for Verlander.
- 34:55Speaker 1: It's ending this weekend. And I look at the trajectory
- 34:59Speaker 1: we're going on. Kershaw last year, Verlander this year. Come on.
- 35:05Speaker 1: father time, give the Yanks Cole for another year or two,
- 35:08Speaker 1: at least, you know, like, I don't know, but his
- 35:11Speaker 1: time will come soon.
- 35:12Speaker 2: But yes, Cole is Cole is still, it's still ready.
- 35:15Speaker 2: He's still good.
- 35:17Speaker 1: Verlander calling it.
- 35:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:19Speaker 3: Verlander Scherzer Kershaw.
- 35:22Speaker 2: Once those guys, the way pitching is done nowadays, we're
- 35:27Speaker 2: not going to see guys like that.
- 35:28Speaker 1: Well, Scherzer, you know, people aren't really paying attention. He
- 35:31Speaker 1: broke some records this year. He passed Walter Johnson on
- 35:34Speaker 1: the all-time strikeout list 25 years after Roger Clemens passed
- 35:38Speaker 1: him in 2001. Just thought you'd like to have that
- 35:41Speaker 1: little side note because I was there the day he
- 35:43Speaker 1: passed Walter Johnson. But Scherzer made some records. Toronto is
- 35:48Speaker 1: such a very interesting team because here they are out
- 35:51Speaker 1: of the postseason after they just were a play call
- 35:56Speaker 1: at the plate away from winning the World Series. And
- 35:59Speaker 1: Schneider will still keep his job, I think, but next year,
- 36:03Speaker 1: the heat's going to be on his seat, isn't it?
- 36:05Speaker 2: No doubt about it. His seat will be hot. The
- 36:07Speaker 2: teams that really disappointed the major league baseball, of course
- 36:10Speaker 2: the Mets, but I think the rest of them are
- 36:13Speaker 2: in the American.
- 36:13Speaker 3: League, Seattle, Toronto, Detroit, even Kansas city. You know, uh,
- 36:21Speaker 3: they've lost, they lost what? 94 games.
- 36:24Speaker 2: Many people pick them to win the division. And, uh,
- 36:29Speaker 2: they've been really out of it all year. So there's
- 36:32Speaker 2: some disappointing themes. I think we might see early next
- 36:37Speaker 2: week some managers get fired.
- 36:39Speaker 1: And if this expansion thing happens, we might see realignment.
- 36:41Speaker 1: I know you've been talking about that for a long time,
- 36:43Speaker 1: so we'll have to see how that goes. All right.
- 36:45Speaker 1: We mentioned Canada, and I can't go without saying the Bills.
- 36:49Speaker 1: I mean, Buffalo opening up high marks, a stadium and
- 36:53Speaker 1: all that. They should win the AFC, right?
- 36:57Speaker 3: Is it theirs? East, for sure.
- 37:01Speaker 2: They're going to win the AFC East, I think, unless
- 37:04Speaker 2: Allen gets hurt, the most indispensable player in the NFL,
- 37:07Speaker 2: in my opinion. Yeah, and they have as good a
- 37:12Speaker 2: chance to get to the Super Bowl as anybody.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Mahomes did on Monday night or a couple weeks ago,
- 37:20Speaker 1: and they look pretty returned. We could be heading to
- 37:24Speaker 1: that next rematch again in the AFC Championship.
- 37:26Speaker 2: It's unbelievable. We might. It really is. Now, you were
- 37:32Speaker 2: talking about the National.
- 37:34Speaker 3: I'm sure you were talking about what you were talking about.
- 37:37Speaker 2: Yes, that's it. Now, the Bills get about 20% of
- 37:39Speaker 2: their business from Canada, their fans. And, you know, they
- 37:44Speaker 2: did it on opening day. They're not doing it tomorrow,
- 37:47Speaker 2: I don't believe, when they play the Chargers. And, boy,
- 37:50Speaker 2: we're a tough spot for the 0-2 Chargers to try
- 37:52Speaker 2: to get their first win in Buffalo. But the Buffalo Sabres,
- 37:56Speaker 2: since they came into the league in 1970, whether they're
- 37:59Speaker 2: playing a Canadian franchise or the Rangers, Islanders, or Devils,
- 38:05Speaker 2: or any American team, they play the Canadian National Anthem
- 38:08Speaker 2: and American National Anthem before every game because a lot
- 38:12Speaker 2: of their cha-ching, fans buying tickets and apparel and hot
- 38:18Speaker 2: dogs when they get there come from Ontario.
- 38:21Speaker 1: And it just makes sense why they used to play
- 38:22Speaker 1: some of those Bills games up in in uh the
- 38:26Speaker 1: rogers center for for a couple times there i think
- 38:28Speaker 1: they played the jets up there actually at least once
- 38:30Speaker 1: so um yeah so it'll be an interesting year maybe
- 38:37Speaker 1: the jets won't be in the wildcard positioning i don't
- 38:39Speaker 1: know yet we'll have to see how that goes but
- 38:42Speaker 1: i would.
- 38:42Speaker 2: Be very happy if what you just said is true
- 38:44Speaker 2: i don't see it one last.
- 38:46Speaker 1: Thing before i let you go today and we can
- 38:48Speaker 1: go Because there are so many other things. Ole Miss
- 38:50Speaker 1: beating Kiffin on his return. I loved that last week.
- 38:54Speaker 1: College football has actually been very good. It's been very entertaining.
- 38:57Speaker 1: These Saturday night games. Chris Fowler doing that Texas game.
- 39:02Speaker 1: Then call the men's final the next day. I love
- 39:04Speaker 1: that kind of stuff. And I think we've got to
- 39:07Speaker 1: call it minor league football at this point. I think
- 39:09Speaker 1: we've got to do something like that.
- 39:11Speaker 2: Not a doubt. It's triple A.
- 39:14Speaker 3: Have you wanted, whatever you want to say.
- 39:16Speaker 1: Teams are today at Tennessee versus Texas. I don't know
- 39:19Speaker 1: if you saw that or not, but they're, they have
- 39:21Speaker 1: scouts out there probably for arch, So we'll have to see.
- 39:27Speaker 1: But are you going to leave here at about 2.30
- 39:30Speaker 1: in the afternoon after we're done on our podcast and
- 39:33Speaker 1: go on the standby line for Jalen Brunson tonight? Is
- 39:35Speaker 1: that your next plan, Louie, for SNL?
- 39:38Speaker 3: Uh, no, I will not be doing that.
- 39:42Speaker 2: I won't even turn on SNL tonight. Not because Jalen
- 39:45Speaker 2: Brunson on, I just haven't watched SNL. And you know,
- 39:49Speaker 2: it's an iconic show. I haven't watched SNL for years.
- 39:52Speaker 1: And I'm sure all the Knicks are going to be
- 39:54Speaker 1: on there at some point during the show, right? It's
- 39:55Speaker 1: probably going to be engineered that way. So.
- 39:59Speaker 2: They'll probably some of his teammates on tonight. Yes, definitely. Josh.
- 40:02Speaker 1: Cause actually Josh Hart's a character and, uh, towns is too. Um,
- 40:07Speaker 1: I met Towns in July. Nicest guy possible. So it's good.
- 40:11Speaker 1: He was a good guy. So I'm sure he'll be
- 40:13Speaker 1: on there. And then the banner raising is in less
- 40:15Speaker 1: than 24 days. I don't know how fast time's flying.
- 40:19Speaker 2: It's unbelievable. It's just like they, it's, it just seems
- 40:22Speaker 2: like they beat San Antonio yesterday in game five.
- 40:26Speaker 1: That is true.
- 40:26Speaker 2: All right, Louie.
- 40:28Speaker 1: Well, we'll have to see what happens with that tonight.
- 40:32Speaker 1: We'll have to see what happens with Notre Dame. I
- 40:34Speaker 1: know they're on plane Purdue right now. So, I'm going
- 40:37Speaker 1: to tune into that. Hey, 3-0 for Marcus Freeman. I
- 40:39Speaker 1: like that start for them. So we'll see.
- 40:42Speaker 3: Have a chance to win a national championship.
- 40:44Speaker 2: I do.
- 40:45Speaker 1: And maybe if they do as an independent, that would
- 40:47Speaker 1: be fantastic. I know you've been pushing them for getting
- 40:50Speaker 1: to a league finally because what do they play? They
- 40:52Speaker 1: play the ACC most weeks.
- 40:54Speaker 2: They got it. But whatever.
- 41:00Speaker 3: We'll see.
- 41:00Speaker 2: All right.
- 41:01Speaker 1: Well, it is turtleneck weather. It's postseason baseball weather. Stay
- 41:04Speaker 1: warm today, Louie. This Nor'easter's here. And I'm not going anywhere.
- 41:08Speaker 1: I'm just going to plop on the TV and watch
- 41:11Speaker 1: some football today.
- 41:12Speaker 2: Those are the best days, Alex, when the weather's like this,
- 41:15Speaker 2: on the sofa, just a little light blanket on, going
- 41:20Speaker 2: from one game to another game, one sport to another sport.
- 41:24Speaker 3: Nothing's better than that.
- 41:26Speaker 1: And I guess we should say, before we wrap up,
- 41:28Speaker 1: Howie Rose's last game was last week. I'm sure you
- 41:30Speaker 1: heard every minute of his final call and final sign-off.
- 41:34Speaker 1: To watch him so emotional in the booth in person is...
- 41:37Speaker 1: It was special. And so what is your takeaway? And
- 41:41Speaker 1: I did put in that story, Howie Rose's call, because
- 41:45Speaker 1: everybody has to hear that home run call by him,
- 41:47Speaker 1: Pete Alonzo, as you said.
- 41:48Speaker 4: As I said, the night he hit it and we
- 41:53Speaker 4: talked and me, you and Ryan talked, Pagano, anybody who
- 41:58Speaker 4: wants to be a bit play-by-play guy and wants to
- 42:02Speaker 4: learn how to do a dramatic during those dramatic situations.
- 42:06Speaker 3: Listen to that call drama. He set it up right.
- 42:10Speaker 3: And he, and he called every detail.
- 42:14Speaker 2: I hope he's not the last of the old style,
- 42:17Speaker 2: great baseball announcers. I love that. How he rose Bob Murphy,
- 42:23Speaker 2: Lindsay Nelson, Frank Messer type of style.
- 42:29Speaker 1: You would give me details that you didn't know about
- 42:31Speaker 1: during the game. Like last week, he was on Stephon
- 42:34Speaker 1: Manteau because he's linked up forever with that call. I
- 42:37Speaker 1: didn't know Manteau played baseball, but he mentioned it, and
- 42:39Speaker 1: that's how I found out because Lowry Rose mentioned that
- 42:42Speaker 1: little factoid, you know? So, and personally, as a mentor
- 42:46Speaker 1: and as a friend and getting to see him the
- 42:49Speaker 1: last day, I mean, that was very special that he
- 42:51Speaker 1: stopped for a second after his final call.
- 42:54Speaker 2: Most famous Queens college graduates.
- 42:58Speaker 3: Howie Rose and Alex Garrett.
- 43:01Speaker 1: I'll put that in the promo reel for Queens College,
- 43:04Speaker 1: all right?
- 43:05Speaker 2: Absolutely. I think you should.
- 43:06Speaker 1: Lou Terminello, always a pleasure, my friend. And we're back
- 43:10Speaker 1: on YouTube. How about that?
- 43:12Speaker 2: That makes me happy. That's great.
- 43:15Speaker 3: Alex, thank you so much for having me on as usual.
- 43:18Speaker 2: I appreciate it.
- 43:19Speaker 1: All right, Terminello's take. One look up Alex Media for
- 43:21Speaker 1: the weekend of September 26th. And CeCe's number is retired,
- 43:25Speaker 1: whether anybody was there or not. He's in the... 24th
- 43:28Speaker 1: player now. So we'll get to that next.
- 43:29Speaker 2: Week, Louie.
- 43:30Speaker 3: Okay.
- 43:32Speaker 2: Take care.
- 43:33Speaker 1: Take care. And that is Terminals Take.
