- 0:17Speaker 1: Spoke of it to Jagsam. I'm kin Nannie Stephens our
- 0:19Speaker 1: first jags Am of the month of May. Brian Session
- 0:22Speaker 1: and John Oser are with me today. It's exciting months
- 0:25Speaker 1: coming up. OTA's are around the corner of voluntary workouts
- 0:28Speaker 1: already going on. But let's start out with our first
- 0:31Speaker 1: big thing today, which is Rookie Mini Caamp that's coming
- 0:33Speaker 1: up in the coming days. And as much excitement as
- 0:36Speaker 1: there is swirling around this rookie class, Brian, what are
- 0:40Speaker 1: you most looking forward to in Rookie Minni Caamp?
- 0:42Speaker 2: Travis Hunter? I mean, listen, I can't imagine even being
- 0:45Speaker 2: excited about Rookie Mini Camp, especially you know since twenty
- 0:48Speaker 2: fifteen when things changed after Dante Fowler tore his ACL
- 0:51Speaker 2: and they went to more of a walkthrough. But you're
- 0:54Speaker 2: getting a star. You're getting a superstar in Travis Hunter
- 0:57Speaker 2: who brings such a huge press both online and in person.
- 1:03Speaker 2: I'm excited to see him.
- 1:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, Travis Hunter is the only answer, and
- 1:07Speaker 3: since Brian goes first, he gets the answer today. But
- 1:11Speaker 3: within that right, the people who are coming out to
- 1:15Speaker 3: see this, you're not gonna see, you know, much football stuff,
- 1:19Speaker 3: but you will see speed. You know, you will see
- 1:23Speaker 3: Tooton's very fast Hunters very fast. They tried to draft
- 1:26Speaker 3: to get some speed, so I think you'll see some
- 1:30Speaker 3: suddenness from those guys, and that's the kind of thing
- 1:32Speaker 3: you can see. But the show is Travis Hunter, and
- 1:36Speaker 3: this is the first act of the show.
- 1:38Speaker 1: We love that. Our second big thing today gonna be overhaul.
- 1:41Speaker 1: We talked a lot about the front office changes we
- 1:43Speaker 1: saw in the off season, but now after the draft,
- 1:46Speaker 1: we're seeing some more changes continue. Assistant general manager Ethan
- 1:49Speaker 1: Wah parted ways with the team. Some other front office
- 1:51Speaker 1: changes Jonas is something we'll see consider we will see
- 1:55Speaker 1: going forward the next couple of weeks as this goes along.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I think this is how the clock works with
- 2:03Speaker 3: a new GM. They come in, they do the draft
- 2:06Speaker 3: with people who are existing, because the people who are
- 2:08Speaker 3: there have the institutional knowledge of what this scouting staff
- 2:11Speaker 3: has looked at. Then once you get through the draft.
- 2:15Speaker 3: James Gladstone, other Rams do things a certain way. James
- 2:18Speaker 3: Gladstone does it things a way that I anticipate evolving
- 2:22Speaker 3: from the Rams, and we'll stop talking about that soon.
- 2:25Speaker 3: But he'll bring in his people, people who see it
- 2:28Speaker 3: the same way he does and who he has experience with,
- 2:30Speaker 3: just like anybody. So I think the transition you'll see
- 2:33Speaker 3: over the next month ish is very natural, expected and
- 2:39Speaker 3: it would be exciting though, Brian, because these guys think
- 2:42Speaker 3: a little different, and I think it's natural when you
- 2:45Speaker 3: do that that you want to get. You want to
- 2:47Speaker 3: get people who are on the same page as you.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Well, since John gets to go first with the second question,
- 2:51Speaker 2: he got the obvious answer, so I'm just going to
- 2:53Speaker 2: reiterate it in different terms. You just expected that the
- 2:58Speaker 2: previous GM's right hand man was going to be dismissed.
- 3:02Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know whether he expected it, but
- 3:04Speaker 2: I think everybody around expected it. But to John's point,
- 3:08Speaker 2: they just do things different. It's an unconventional way of
- 3:11Speaker 2: approaching asymmetrical. I've called it the Hedge Fund over and
- 3:14Speaker 2: over and over. It's guys that do things a completely
- 3:16Speaker 2: different way, old school football, new school football, and they're
- 3:20Speaker 2: going to infiltrate the ranks with people that do things
- 3:23Speaker 2: their way.
- 3:23Speaker 3: Just makes sense.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Our final big thing today is going to be turnover.
- 3:27Speaker 1: We saw a ton of signings in free agency, obviously
- 3:30Speaker 1: with the new front office here and now we've seen
- 3:32Speaker 1: the rookie additions and also the undesignated free agent additions.
- 3:35Speaker 1: I think there's almost twenty of them. So Ryan, when
- 3:37Speaker 1: you look at this roster, it's going to be more
- 3:39Speaker 1: than half new people right at this point, which makes
- 3:42Speaker 1: sense with a changeover in management. But what are we
- 3:45Speaker 1: looking for as far as things go forward. There's gonna
- 3:47Speaker 1: be a lot of new faces.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Yeah, And I think the speed side of it is
- 3:50Speaker 2: what really stands out. I mean, this team added it
- 3:52Speaker 2: all over the place. I don't know that I thought
- 3:54Speaker 2: they were terribly slow last year, but it's clear that
- 3:58Speaker 2: this coaching staff and the scoutings gap wanted something completely different.
- 4:02Speaker 2: So when you look down the ranks of the guys,
- 4:03Speaker 2: especially the undrafted rookie free agents, you see speed, speed, speed.
- 4:09Speaker 2: I think that's the part that, as John alluded to,
- 4:11Speaker 2: we're going to see on Saturday, guys running and running fast.
- 4:14Speaker 3: Yeah. And you can't really change a culture without changing
- 4:19Speaker 3: the people and some of that as players. So I
- 4:22Speaker 3: do think you're seeing that. I think the number is
- 4:24Speaker 3: twenty nine rookies last time I counted, I think there
- 4:27Speaker 3: were twenty two free agents by the time they finished.
- 4:30Speaker 3: And I think The intriguing thing is James Gladstone. I
- 4:35Speaker 3: think he alluded to it. To the draft, they clearly
- 4:37Speaker 3: left spots. Their roster was a little smaller after free
- 4:42Speaker 3: agency going into the draft. That maybe would have been
- 4:45Speaker 3: usual a lot of teams sort of wait, see what
- 4:47Speaker 3: they draft, then they release guys. The Jaguars were able
- 4:51Speaker 3: to sort of just we're gonna leave space. They knew
- 4:54Speaker 3: what positions were likely. So this has been a plan
- 4:57Speaker 3: from day one. And of course there's transition because you're
- 5:00Speaker 3: changing culture.
- 5:01Speaker 2: I was at an event with James last night and
- 5:04Speaker 2: he was asked this very question about undrafted rookies and
- 5:07Speaker 2: filling the roster with rookies and there being a chance,
- 5:10Speaker 2: and he went back to a year, probably three years
- 5:12Speaker 2: ago in Los Angeles where they had forty six players
- 5:16Speaker 2: under contract on draft weekend and they filled in the
- 5:19Speaker 2: gaps with rookie free agents using their method, their DNA,
- 5:24Speaker 2: as he alluded to time and again. And you've seen
- 5:27Speaker 2: what they've done the last couple of years, and of
- 5:28Speaker 2: course they made a playoff run last year, so it
- 5:31Speaker 2: clearly has worked for them, and that's what they're setting
- 5:34Speaker 2: about to do here.
- 5:35Speaker 1: So hope it works. Just as well in Jacksonville. Say
- 5:37Speaker 1: with us here on jag Zam, we're going to go
- 5:39Speaker 1: over some of that roster construction after the break. Jag
- 5:48Speaker 1: Dam today brought to you by Fresh from Florida. It's
- 5:50Speaker 1: always in season.
- 5:53Speaker 3: This score that, this score that.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Welcome back to jack Exam today. We're gonna have rookie
- 6:03Speaker 1: mini camp at the end of the week. Voluntary workouts
- 6:05Speaker 1: still have been going on for a while and Brian
- 6:07Speaker 1: don't have the exact number count, but it's pretty good
- 6:09Speaker 1: turnout so far.
- 6:10Speaker 2: That generally happens in a year where you get a
- 6:11Speaker 2: brand new coaching staff. Guys want to come in and
- 6:14Speaker 2: take advantage of the opportunity to get ahead before OTAs,
- 6:18Speaker 2: plus the excitement and energy level with a new young staff.
- 6:24Speaker 2: It can't hurt.
- 6:25Speaker 3: Well, it almost always happens in Florida anyway, as Brian
- 6:31Speaker 3: alluded to with the new staff and frankly with this bunch. Look,
- 6:35Speaker 3: they're voluntary, but I can list maybe six seven guys
- 6:41Speaker 3: who I know will start. I can't listen any more
- 6:44Speaker 3: than that, So I'm sure there is a little bit
- 6:48Speaker 3: of a psychological thing. If you're competing, even for an
- 6:50Speaker 3: offensive line position, might be a good idea to get there,
- 6:53Speaker 3: and I be in front of the coaches, even though
- 6:55Speaker 3: the coaches can't say do anything yet.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Yeah, listen, I think especially if you're talking about an
- 6:59Speaker 2: off line position, because that's a group that's inder great scrutiny,
- 7:02Speaker 2: and they brought in a bunch of players and drafted
- 7:04Speaker 2: some as well. And I don't think either of the tackles,
- 7:08Speaker 2: either Walker Little or Anton Harrison, has distinguished himself enough
- 7:11Speaker 2: to be clear of competition. So I think that group
- 7:14Speaker 2: in particular is going to be under some scrutiny.
- 7:16Speaker 1: We're going to talk about a couple of things when
- 7:18Speaker 1: we talk about competition and what we're looking at in
- 7:20Speaker 1: terms of roster construction. On the defense, we saw some additions.
- 7:23Speaker 1: I think at this point we've seen most of what
- 7:25Speaker 1: they're going to do for the roster. Maybe a free
- 7:26Speaker 1: agent here or there. But where's your concern lie on
- 7:29Speaker 1: the defensive side of the football.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Obviously, there was.
- 7:31Speaker 1: A lot of breakdowns in the secondary last year, not
- 7:34Speaker 1: a ton of push from the defensive line, which one
- 7:37Speaker 1: of those is a focus you think needs to be
- 7:39Speaker 1: this offseason to be better next season.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Like safety, I mean, we saw so many big plays
- 7:44Speaker 2: down the middle last year and I realized and Francisco
- 7:46Speaker 2: had a poor year and he's now in New York.
- 7:50Speaker 2: But john it seemed, especially when Dewey Wingard was down,
- 7:54Speaker 2: that they just didn't have any answers. Antonio Johnson did
- 7:58Speaker 2: not rise to the occasion, at least not in that
- 8:00Speaker 2: scheme last year, despite at the end of the year
- 8:03Speaker 2: prior showing a lot of skill. It just seemed like
- 8:06Speaker 2: they had no solutions at safety whatsoever. I know they've
- 8:08Speaker 2: addressed that both in free agency and the draft, but
- 8:12Speaker 2: that's the area, the middle of the field that I'm
- 8:14Speaker 2: most concerned about.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Well, I'm so little concerned at corner. You know, Travis
- 8:19Speaker 3: Hunter is a good I mean, obviously an incredible ad.
- 8:24Speaker 3: I believe Jordan Lewis will go outside some and Travis
- 8:27Speaker 3: Hunter will play there. I still want to see what
- 8:30Speaker 3: that looks like. Although I think they think they or
- 8:33Speaker 3: they have addressed corner and secondary, I still wonder if
- 8:37Speaker 3: some defensive line stuff isn't still to come. I think
- 8:41Speaker 3: you could still see them add edge tackle whatever. I'm
- 8:46Speaker 3: not sure they're done there. In terms of veterans, you know.
- 8:48Speaker 2: For his sake, I hope that Mason Smith is working
- 8:50Speaker 2: his butt off. I mean, there's so much, there's so
- 8:54Speaker 2: much being placed on his shoulders. You know, a second
- 8:56Speaker 2: round pick a year ago, a guy with immense potential,
- 8:59Speaker 2: and if he's right, if he's good, kai, I mean,
- 9:02Speaker 2: they've got a major issue in the middle of their
- 9:04Speaker 2: defense solved. But if he's not and he's a disappointment,
- 9:08Speaker 2: then they've got an issue that they're gonna deal with
- 9:09Speaker 2: all season long.
- 9:10Speaker 3: I think the big thing there is they would love
- 9:14Speaker 3: him to be what the last regime drafted him as,
- 9:17Speaker 3: because I think that gives you what you know is
- 9:20Speaker 3: gonna be for twenty six and twenty seven. If I'm
- 9:23Speaker 3: getting the years right after this, it's hard to see
- 9:26Speaker 3: Eric Armstead being here after this year. So they would
- 9:30Speaker 3: love to have Mason Smith moving in ascending Mason missing
- 9:34Speaker 3: me a big part of rotation this year, but to
- 9:36Speaker 3: be the guy in there, Boy, would that be something
- 9:40Speaker 3: they wouldn't have to address in the draft in a
- 9:43Speaker 3: premium area.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Again, let's switch to the offensive line. Obviously, we talked
- 9:46Speaker 1: a ton about the additions they've made to that room,
- 9:49Speaker 1: how different it's gonna look. We know there'll be at
- 9:51Speaker 1: least two new starters just by way of Mitch Morse's
- 9:54Speaker 1: retirement and Brandon Sheriff not being here anymore. So center
- 9:57Speaker 1: and right guard will be different this year, but there'll
- 10:00Speaker 1: be more than two new starters to this offensive line
- 10:02Speaker 1: this year.
- 10:03Speaker 3: John will yeah, and I couldn't tell you which one, Brian,
- 10:06Speaker 3: But I think I mean every position and even the
- 10:11Speaker 3: guys they brought in are competing. But left tackle, right
- 10:16Speaker 3: guard is absolutely a competition with Wyatt Mile. I'm coming
- 10:20Speaker 3: in to push as I'm sorry, I've got that left
- 10:24Speaker 3: guard right. But the reason I guess I said it
- 10:28Speaker 3: that way, I don't know that there's a position that
- 10:31Speaker 3: I would bet my house where I know the starter.
- 10:34Speaker 3: I think it'll be little. You know, the guys were
- 10:38Speaker 3: sort of projecting, but I bet I don't bet one
- 10:43Speaker 3: hundred percent if I picked it right now. I think
- 10:45Speaker 3: the competition is that real.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Well, I think that the two guys we talked about
- 10:48Speaker 2: in the outside both have a leg up because they're
- 10:51Speaker 2: the most athletic, they're the most capable guys. But because
- 10:54Speaker 2: this new coaching staff does things so differently, I wouldn't
- 10:58Speaker 2: put it past anybody to be well. I even mentioned
- 11:01Speaker 2: to somebody, well, certainly Hainsy the sentiment that they bring
- 11:03Speaker 2: in from Tampa. He knows the coach, he knows the scheme.
- 11:06Speaker 2: And I said, somebody say, don't bet on it, right,
- 11:09Speaker 2: I mean, he's gotta go earn it. So yeah, I
- 11:12Speaker 2: mean there's some guys that are probable that you think
- 11:14Speaker 2: they just make sense. But the offensive line is going
- 11:17Speaker 2: to be the storyline of training camp beyond the quarterback
- 11:21Speaker 2: in Travis.
- 11:22Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Now let's turn our focus to the running back room.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Another crowded room when we look at two editions from
- 11:29Speaker 1: the rookie class, plus obviously undesignated free agents as well.
- 11:32Speaker 1: But looking at that room, who do we think will
- 11:35Speaker 1: have at the end of the season the most cares
- 11:37Speaker 1: for the team?
- 11:38Speaker 3: Tooting will by the end, I just think they drafted
- 11:44Speaker 3: him to give them that explosiveness. I'll kind of pull
- 11:49Speaker 3: back on that a little bit. Will you have the
- 11:50Speaker 3: most carries? I think so? Will he have the most impact?
- 11:54Speaker 3: Will he be the guy you're talking about the most?
- 11:57Speaker 3: I think I'd be surprised if he wasn't, because of
- 12:00Speaker 3: how they see him fitting. And it's not out of
- 12:03Speaker 3: the question that he starts.
- 12:04Speaker 2: He's there, Bucky Irving, you know, he's the guy that
- 12:07Speaker 2: comes in as a rookie and they believe can transform
- 12:10Speaker 2: the way the running game works. I think more interesting
- 12:13Speaker 2: is who's going to have the second most I mean,
- 12:15Speaker 2: is Travis Etn going to be a part of the
- 12:16Speaker 2: running back rotation or is he going to be more
- 12:18Speaker 2: of an offensive weapon, a guy that they line up
- 12:20Speaker 2: in the slot they move around, more of a third
- 12:22Speaker 2: down back. And we talked last week about the opportunity,
- 12:25Speaker 2: a distinct one that exists for Travis in that role.
- 12:29Speaker 2: I think Tank is going to be the guy who
- 12:31Speaker 2: has the second most carries.
- 12:32Speaker 3: Yeah, and don't sleep on Lequent Allen, Yes, seventh round pick.
- 12:38Speaker 3: I'd be very surprised if he's not a factor. So
- 12:42Speaker 3: it's as much as we talk about the offensive line,
- 12:45Speaker 3: it sort of feels from outside like, well, Tank Bagsby
- 12:49Speaker 3: and Travis Atn have been the guys to sort of default.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Not at all. This is everything's on the table wide receiver.
- 12:57Speaker 3: You feel really good about knowing the three, and then
- 13:01Speaker 3: Parker Washington is the fourth that feels right. Quarterback feels right.
- 13:06Speaker 3: Beyond that, it's going to be interesting to see how
- 13:08Speaker 3: roles play out.
- 13:09Speaker 1: I think any order, I would believe you at this point.
- 13:11Speaker 1: I'm not quite sure, but that's what makes it fun.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Stay with us. We'll talk a little bit more about
- 13:15Speaker 1: what's coming up to the rest of the week. Move
- 13:24Speaker 1: the freight, Move the freight. Magellan Transport voted the coolest
- 13:26Speaker 1: office space in Jacksonville. Apply online at Magellanlogistics dot com.
- 13:38Speaker 1: John Os're so kind to answer all the fanned questions
- 13:41Speaker 1: every day as you do.
- 13:42Speaker 3: So we're going this is sort of a part of me,
- 13:45Speaker 3: really is that's one.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Of the top the scriptures I would use. Yeah, and
- 13:49Speaker 1: fashionable and funny.
- 13:51Speaker 3: Wow, keep going, you'll.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Hit one, all right, let's do. Bill from Hawthorn Woods,
- 13:56Speaker 1: Illinois says any insight on potential discussions to bring the
- 13:59Speaker 1: NFL Draft to Jacksonville after stadium completion, Green Bay worked,
- 14:03Speaker 1: so I have to believe that jack could support.
- 14:05Speaker 3: It as well, Right, think more about you know, if
- 14:08Speaker 3: there's discussions. I haven't heard, you know, any official, but
- 14:13Speaker 3: I would be very surprised if it's not a thing
- 14:16Speaker 3: that they you know, not only one get it's a fit.
- 14:19Speaker 2: It's a lever that the league uses for the non
- 14:21Speaker 2: Super Bowl cities, right, I mean, there's like nine cities
- 14:24Speaker 2: that are going to host the Super Bowl all across
- 14:25Speaker 2: the South into California, but places like Green Bay. When
- 14:30Speaker 2: they completed Title Town, which was a public private partnership
- 14:33Speaker 2: sort of like we're seeing out here. Green Bay was
- 14:35Speaker 2: given the opportunity to host the Draft. They use it suites, stadiums,
- 14:42Speaker 2: these sorts of things. And my guess is that the
- 14:45Speaker 2: reason it's going to Washington in twenty twenty seven is
- 14:48Speaker 2: because they've got the deal done for the new stadium there.
- 14:51Speaker 2: I can't imagine that when the Commissioner came down and
- 14:54Speaker 2: met with the mayor when they were talking about the
- 14:56Speaker 2: stadium two years ago, that this was not on the table.
- 14:59Speaker 2: And I believe you'll see it here. They'll probably give
- 15:02Speaker 2: the stadium a year or two for everything to finish
- 15:05Speaker 2: up construction wise, and to work their way through the
- 15:07Speaker 2: punch list. But I would guess by twenty thirty Jacksonville
- 15:09Speaker 2: will be in the middle of the conversation. And it's
- 15:12Speaker 2: worth noting when they first moved it from New York
- 15:15Speaker 2: and took it to Chicago back in twenty fifteen, it
- 15:18Speaker 2: was a very simple affair. They had a setting a
- 15:22Speaker 2: grant park with a stage with the team tables, and
- 15:25Speaker 2: now it's become like a Super Bowl. I mean, it
- 15:27Speaker 2: stretches and it just keeps getting bigger and bigger and bigger.
- 15:30Speaker 2: So they may want to give it a couple more
- 15:33Speaker 2: years to make sure that the hotels and the infrastructure
- 15:35Speaker 2: are in place here. But I believe you'll see it
- 15:37Speaker 2: here twenty thirty, twenty thirty one.
- 15:39Speaker 1: But you've been at the last couple drafts, and it
- 15:41Speaker 1: can smaller market.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Obviously, green Bay did it right. Green Bay did Nashville.
- 15:46Speaker 2: It was. It started in Chicago and it was simple,
- 15:49Speaker 2: and then it went to Philadelphia and they closed up
- 15:52Speaker 2: the Ben Franklin Parkway and made it a bit bigger,
- 15:54Speaker 2: and then Nashville. Well, then went to Dallas. It was
- 15:56Speaker 2: in the stadium. Then Nashville took it a different level.
- 15:58Speaker 2: I mean they took Broadway all the way down. Uh,
- 16:01Speaker 2: it went to Vegas. Vegas is Vegas. Cleveland didn't do
- 16:03Speaker 2: much with it. Kansas City did a big deal on
- 16:06Speaker 2: the on the lawn in front of the Union Station
- 16:08Speaker 2: at the Liberty Memorial. Detroit did it in Cadillac Square.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Green Bay was completely different. They did it around the stadium.
- 16:15Speaker 2: So I think it'll be an interesting mix. I'm interested
- 16:18Speaker 2: to see you know when they start talking about this,
- 16:21Speaker 2: how they do it, because I would imagine they'd want
- 16:22Speaker 2: something at the beach, they'd want something downtown here, they'd
- 16:25Speaker 2: want to blow it up, so to speak. Jacksonville can
- 16:29Speaker 2: absolutely do it. They just need more here downtown, which
- 16:32Speaker 2: is what they're working on right now.
- 16:34Speaker 3: That's the plan. I will be very happy with the
- 16:36Speaker 3: traffic that weekend. R I'm used to being able to
- 16:38Speaker 3: get right in and get and get out.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Yeah, you'll be taking a shuttle somewhere. That's that's the
- 16:42Speaker 2: way it works. No, you'll tell you you'll have Green Bay.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Nobody got anywhere near it. It's become a Level one
- 16:51Speaker 2: national security event to tell you what the draft has become.
- 16:53Speaker 1: So absolutely all right, John. Another one, Steve from Nashville, said,
- 16:58Speaker 1: you have probably covered enough region changes regime changes in
- 17:01Speaker 1: the NFL to know if this one feels any different
- 17:04Speaker 1: than all the rest. But those I feel different so far.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Well, I think they all sort of feel different in
- 17:09Speaker 3: different ways. To give an awful answer, but I think
- 17:12Speaker 3: when I answered the question, I think what he's looking
- 17:14Speaker 3: for is does this feel more right? I think the
- 17:20Speaker 3: uniqueness about this one is the transparency that they're acting
- 17:26Speaker 3: with and it's important to all of them to bring
- 17:29Speaker 3: the fans into the experience and Brian, it's it's hard
- 17:34Speaker 3: to put it into words, but there is a common sense,
- 17:40Speaker 3: especially with Piselli and Gladstone, who've gotten to know a
- 17:42Speaker 3: little bit better than I have Liam, but I think
- 17:45Speaker 3: they all share it this. They look at something and think,
- 17:49Speaker 3: is that the right way to do it? Yeah, okay,
- 17:51Speaker 3: let's do it that. You know, that sounds very easy,
- 17:54Speaker 3: but so many regimes you've been around sort of try
- 17:58Speaker 3: to overcomplicate things. So overall, the thing I'm encouraged about
- 18:02Speaker 3: is the communication ability between Gladstone to sell and Liam
- 18:08Speaker 3: Cohne to be on the same page. I wish I
- 18:12Speaker 3: could describe it better, but I have great faith in
- 18:16Speaker 3: that as moving the organization in the right direction.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Well, I mentioned earlier, I was at an event with
- 18:21Speaker 2: all three of them last night, and I'm a big
- 18:22Speaker 2: body language guy. I kind of watched that and so
- 18:25Speaker 2: I was sitting in one stool at the end, and
- 18:27Speaker 2: then the three of them were together. It's distinct, Yeah,
- 18:30Speaker 2: I mean they finish each other's sentences. They kind of
- 18:32Speaker 2: look at each other. They've been together nine weeks for
- 18:34Speaker 2: goodness sakes, and yet it's very clear that they have
- 18:36Speaker 2: developed a strong cohesive bond between the three of them.
- 18:42Speaker 2: If I could put it into words, I would say
- 18:44Speaker 2: the transparency is the issue. I think people have seen
- 18:46Speaker 2: the clip of Tony and James walking on the practice
- 18:51Speaker 2: field and talking about the move. You realize they let
- 18:54Speaker 2: them shoot that weeks in advance, when very few people knew.
- 18:58Speaker 2: The level of trust that is in this organization right
- 19:01Speaker 2: now has never never been seen before, which goes to
- 19:07Speaker 2: show you that they are they are trying hard to
- 19:10Speaker 2: bring the fans into the building as much as they can. Well,
- 19:15Speaker 2: that's never happened before either. It's it's unique, it's remarkable.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Choose your adjective. We've been excited about regime changes before,
- 19:23Speaker 2: and there have been reason to be excited about regime
- 19:25Speaker 2: changes before, but there's never been anything like this.
- 19:28Speaker 3: And there's also a combination. Look, you got to win
- 19:32Speaker 3: and Trevor's got to improve. That's the base is there.
- 19:36Speaker 3: But there is a combination of boldness and confidence. It's impressive.
- 19:43Speaker 3: And as soon as I say that, I hear people saying,
- 19:45Speaker 3: whether he can be bold and confident on you want?
- 19:46Speaker 3: What if they're just too cocky. I don't. I don't
- 19:49Speaker 3: sinse that. I think it's it's a boldness based on
- 19:54Speaker 3: we know what we're doing. We've seen this operate before,
- 19:59Speaker 3: and we have to be the changes organization, so there's
- 20:02Speaker 3: never any guarantees in life or in the NFL. But
- 20:05Speaker 3: I feel better about this than anything I've I have
- 20:10Speaker 3: felt probably since I've been back in twenty eleven. And well,
- 20:13Speaker 3: I hope I'm right. I'm enthusiastic about it. I'm an
- 20:17Speaker 3: old cynical hack so I always have you know, I
- 20:21Speaker 3: always pull back on everything. But I think these guys
- 20:24Speaker 3: got to go in the right direction.
- 20:25Speaker 2: I'm not cynical. I tend to be more optimistic, but
- 20:28Speaker 2: I'll take you this. I go all the way back
- 20:33Speaker 2: to the beginning of this franchise, and other than Kauughlin,
- 20:36Speaker 2: I have not been as excited about what I'm seeing
- 20:41Speaker 2: going back thirty one years. That just doesn't exist.
- 20:44Speaker 3: John.
- 20:44Speaker 1: I'm a little cautious as well, just because of all
- 20:46Speaker 1: the new things. We never really know what we're going
- 20:48Speaker 1: to get. But when I talk about that boldness and
- 20:50Speaker 1: you talk about that boldness, a lot of it comes
- 20:51Speaker 1: from understanding how they want to operate in the sense
- 20:54Speaker 1: where a lot of people go through the motions. Sometimes
- 20:56Speaker 1: we talk about, oh, this is the way it's done,
- 20:58Speaker 1: and this is how you do it, you know, with
- 21:00Speaker 1: thirty thirty visit, you do whatever, and they're like, no,
- 21:03Speaker 1: this is how I want to do it. And whether
- 21:04Speaker 1: that's right or wrong, they live with those consequences, but
- 21:07Speaker 1: they understand how they want to do things and they're
- 21:09Speaker 1: not just going along with status quo.
- 21:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I think it's a really good point when,
- 21:15Speaker 3: for instance, it's very unusual not to do the thirty visits.
- 21:18Speaker 3: It's a little unusual not to talk to players face
- 21:20Speaker 3: to face. I've talked to some assistance of these guys,
- 21:24Speaker 3: and the Jaguars really haven't talked to some of the
- 21:26Speaker 3: assistants you'd usually talk to. But you could tell by
- 21:30Speaker 3: the draft they're drilling down and they're finding out about
- 21:34Speaker 3: the guys that they want. And then when you talk
- 21:37Speaker 3: to James Gladstone about it, there are reasons and sound
- 21:42Speaker 3: reasons when they do different things. It's not just for
- 21:45Speaker 3: the sake of being bowler, sake of this or sake
- 21:48Speaker 3: of that, so they think about it a little differently.
- 21:52Speaker 3: But the different way of thinking is still rooted in
- 21:57Speaker 3: very sound football principles.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Love it all right. Question is gonna be robed from Duval?
- 22:02Speaker 1: And he says, would it makes sense to just give
- 22:04Speaker 1: Travis Hunter a specific player to cover when he's on defense?
- 22:07Speaker 1: Time management seems pretty mind bogging unless they find a
- 22:11Speaker 1: way to simplify the game plan on defense, saying you
- 22:14Speaker 1: have this number seems pretty simple. Might be good enough
- 22:17Speaker 1: to trace some really good players.
- 22:18Speaker 3: Well, I don't know that you want to. Hey, you're
- 22:21Speaker 3: gonna play offense in defense and you're gonna take away
- 22:25Speaker 3: the best receiver on the other team, and we're gonna
- 22:28Speaker 3: carve you a bust right now, like slightly tall task.
- 22:31Speaker 3: Let him earn that role. I think people are because
- 22:36Speaker 3: it's not necessarily out there and they haven't seen it yet. Yes,
- 22:40Speaker 3: the time management is going to be a challenge, Ryan,
- 22:42Speaker 3: but they haven't planned for it. And it's basically, he's
- 22:46Speaker 3: gonna work seventy five percent of the time on offense,
- 22:49Speaker 3: twenty five on defense, and they're gonna give him enough
- 22:52Speaker 3: packages on defense to understand on that day. So that's
- 22:55Speaker 3: the plan. And I know people say, well, what about this,
- 22:58Speaker 3: what about this? What about this? That's what they're going
- 22:59Speaker 3: to do and I think if if they need to
- 23:03Speaker 3: tweak that as you go forward, they will. But that's
- 23:05Speaker 3: the plan start now, so it's not all that mind
- 23:08Speaker 3: boggling to figure out it's gonna.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Well, that's the key is it's it's gonna be work
- 23:11Speaker 2: in progress, right. I mean, they're gonna work in the
- 23:13Speaker 2: extra meeting time for him with the offensive and defensive
- 23:16Speaker 2: coordinators throughout the course of the day. They're going to
- 23:19Speaker 2: figure out what he's able to do. And Liam said
- 23:22Speaker 2: it the other evening that you've got to have him
- 23:25Speaker 2: working extra on his own outside of the building. So
- 23:28Speaker 2: they're gonna they're gonna figure out. They're gonna have a plan,
- 23:30Speaker 2: and they're gonna figure out what he can do and
- 23:32Speaker 2: what he's willing to do, and they're going to work
- 23:34Speaker 2: their way through it and they'll make adjustments. I don't
- 23:37Speaker 2: think you can make a Harden. We haven't seen this
- 23:39Speaker 2: since the sixties. We haven't seen it in an offensive
- 23:43Speaker 2: defensive you know what I mean. We just haven't seen it.
- 23:45Speaker 2: So they're gonna have to give him a lot of
- 23:48Speaker 2: room to grow and then reined in where they need to.
- 23:51Speaker 3: I think it's a good point you made there's a students.
- 23:58Speaker 3: My understanding is they were rased.
- 24:01Speaker 1: I've been told that as well.
- 24:02Speaker 3: But the students like me did enough to get by
- 24:05Speaker 3: during the week. Travis Hunter will need to be an
- 24:08Speaker 3: a student. He'll need to be the guy that I
- 24:10Speaker 3: looked at when he's going to the library and what
- 24:12Speaker 3: are you doing. He'll need to be that sort of
- 24:15Speaker 3: motivated to make this work, because that's the sort of
- 24:21Speaker 3: mental dedication it'll take. He wants to do this, so
- 24:26Speaker 3: that's what he'll do. They think you will, all right,
- 24:29Speaker 3: stay with us.
- 24:29Speaker 1: We can. We will tell you the schedule for the
- 24:31Speaker 1: rest of the week and what you can expect to
- 24:32Speaker 1: hear and from.
- 24:33Speaker 3: Whom that went fast. That went fast.
- 24:41Speaker 4: So I do hope that maybe, now, reflecting on the
- 24:47Speaker 4: warp speed of two months, life doesn't continue to go
- 24:51Speaker 4: that faster, that I get to pause a.
- 24:54Speaker 3: Little bit more. I think.
- 24:56Speaker 4: So much this day is about pressing the fast forward.
- 25:01Speaker 4: But and I'll look to try as often as I
- 25:05Speaker 4: can to press the pause button and just root myself.
- 25:09Speaker 4: I think I'll be mindful of that for sure.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Has been a whirlwind two months for the start of
- 25:15Speaker 1: things for a general manager, James Gladstone, who was on
- 25:17Speaker 1: the Ozone podcast, and if you haven't checked it out,
- 25:19Speaker 1: I highly recommend it because we finally got a little
- 25:21Speaker 1: bit of a toned down version. But he's not going
- 25:24Speaker 1: at one hundred miles an hour, so it can kind
- 25:26Speaker 1: of reflect a little bit. With you, John, I thought
- 25:27Speaker 1: it was an enlightening conversation.
- 25:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I think we talked. It was a little longer
- 25:31Speaker 3: than the usual of the Zone podcast, and as you
- 25:34Speaker 3: can imagine, Ryan I could have gone two hours. It
- 25:37Speaker 3: was fascinating to talk to him. We didn't get super
- 25:41Speaker 3: super deep into the details of the draft because frankly,
- 25:46Speaker 3: that's going to be seen in the hunt, so we
- 25:50Speaker 3: talked more about sort of him a little bit. And
- 25:55Speaker 3: he's a very interesting guy. And I would recommend anybody
- 25:58Speaker 3: who wants to understand sort of how this is moving
- 26:01Speaker 3: the direction, why it's so easy to trust in this
- 26:05Speaker 3: leadership group, I would recommend watching it was.
- 26:08Speaker 2: It was a lot of fun, Tony, Butshelley told me
- 26:10Speaker 2: a story about their interview with him. It was four
- 26:12Speaker 2: hours long and said that for the first two hours
- 26:14Speaker 2: they didn't even talk football, So I mean it's yeah,
- 26:17Speaker 2: he's a fascinating guy and he's a deep thinker, and
- 26:20Speaker 2: he's fun to listen to.
- 26:22Speaker 3: And I could see I mean, if you're doing an
- 26:24Speaker 3: interview process and you get to the end, I could
- 26:27Speaker 3: easily see how when they were all done, they were
- 26:32Speaker 3: they got to the point where they were hoping they
- 26:34Speaker 3: would get him. He's that sort that I would imagine
- 26:38Speaker 3: once everything sort of filtered out and they were sitting
- 26:41Speaker 3: around the room, it was a pretty easy decision. We
- 26:43Speaker 3: got to go get this guy. So I really I'm
- 26:46Speaker 3: really happy he's here, and I would be very very
- 26:50Speaker 3: surprised if he's not successful. And by nature, the you know, extension,
- 26:56Speaker 3: the organization are good.
- 26:58Speaker 1: Let's talk a little bit about this week where manicamp
- 27:00Speaker 1: kicks off Friday, I believe is the first day on
- 27:03Speaker 1: the field. They'll get here on Thursday, John, and then
- 27:05Speaker 1: we'll get to talk and see all of them on Saturday.
- 27:08Speaker 3: Yeah. And it's as we talked about the top of
- 27:10Speaker 3: the show, the theme around here until it's not is the
- 27:13Speaker 3: Travis Hunter experience. I mean it's and I think you
- 27:19Speaker 3: always get a little worried and say that about a rookie.
- 27:21Speaker 3: You know, he's the theme. But from everything you hear,
- 27:23Speaker 3: you can handle it. You guys have been around him
- 27:25Speaker 3: little more than I have. I've had a chance to
- 27:26Speaker 3: sit out and talk with him, you guys have. It
- 27:29Speaker 3: seems like this is a guy who understands that's what
- 27:33Speaker 3: it is, but can walk a humble walk through that
- 27:37Speaker 3: if you will.
- 27:38Speaker 2: He's a superstar. This franchise has never had that. Never
- 27:42Speaker 2: I mean, I guess you could say Trevor. They've they've
- 27:45Speaker 2: had big players before, I mean Fred and Jimmy, but
- 27:47Speaker 2: that was in an era where he had a different
- 27:50Speaker 2: meaning altogether. Now, in the social media world, his reach
- 27:53Speaker 2: is unbelievable, So I fully expect there to be a
- 27:56Speaker 2: circus with this guy waiting. He put his feet on
- 27:59Speaker 2: the ground in London, for goodness sakes. I mean, he's he's.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Got that sort of appeal and it's confidence, not arrogance,
- 28:05Speaker 1: which is also kind of cool to see it Nowaday
- 28:07Speaker 1: and Age, because obviously you want to have belief in
- 28:08Speaker 1: yourself without coming across that way, and as talented as
- 28:11Speaker 1: he is, you assume that could kind of come across
- 28:14Speaker 1: in a you know, braggadocious way. But you know it's
- 28:17Speaker 1: worth saying very quiet confidence as well.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Having met him for the first time as you did this,
- 28:23Speaker 2: that Draft weekend. I kind of expected there to be
- 28:25Speaker 2: a little of that, I think, especially with the you know,
- 28:27Speaker 2: he says Dean Sanders is a father figure to him, Right,
- 28:31Speaker 2: So I kind of I figured there'd be at least
- 28:32Speaker 2: a touch of it. I sensed nothing. Nothing in his
- 28:36Speaker 2: body language, nothing in his verbal nothing. He just seems
- 28:40Speaker 2: to me to be a unicorn.
- 28:42Speaker 3: Right. I would be interested if ar I get a
- 28:44Speaker 3: chance to meet some of the people who influenced him
- 28:47Speaker 3: growing up, his fam because for him to be as
- 28:50Speaker 3: humble as he appears with being a tik Took, it's
- 28:54Speaker 3: still TikTok rights that were the cool kids. That for
- 28:58Speaker 3: him to be as big as a star on a
- 29:00Speaker 3: level as he is and to walk with the humility
- 29:03Speaker 3: that he evidently does, it's tough. Uh So, I'm excited
- 29:07Speaker 3: about seeing this the t h E the Travis Hunter experience.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Oh I love that we are too. We'll get to
- 29:15Speaker 1: see a sneak peek of it this weekend for Minikimp
- 29:17Speaker 1: and we'll tell you all about it next week here
- 29:19Speaker 1: on jack Zam. Have a good one,
