Transcript
- 0:02Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
- 0:06rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, January 6th.
- 0:11Choose his way over yours. Have you ever felt the pressure
- 0:14to have it all figured out? To know exactly where you're
- 0:17going, who you're becoming, and how everything will work out?
- 0:20Maybe you've been told just trust yourself or follow your
- 0:23heart. That sounds empowering, but deep
- 0:25down it can also feel exhausting.
- 0:28Carrying the weight of every decision on your own shoulders
- 0:30can leave you anxious, restless, and worn down.
- 0:34Proverbs chapter 3, verses 7 to 8 speaks right into that
- 0:37tension. It says be not wise in your own
- 0:40eyes, fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
- 0:43It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.
- 0:47God isn't trying to limit you. He's inviting you to rest.
- 0:50When we stop pretending we know best and choose to honor Him
- 0:53instead, something shifts inside us.
- 0:56There's healing, there's relief, there's a piece that reaches
- 0:59places no self help advice ever could.
- 1:02Psalm 4 reminds us of something just as powerful verse 3 says.
- 1:07But know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself.
- 1:10The Lord hears when I call to him.
- 1:12That means you're not lost in the noise.
- 1:14You don't have to fight for attention or prove your worth.
- 1:17When you pray, really pray, God hears you.
- 1:20You are seen, known, and set apart by Him.
- 1:22Then we look at Matthew chapter 3 where Jesus is baptized.
- 1:26This moment is striking because Jesus didn't need to do this.
- 1:30He was without sin, and yet he chose humility and obedience.
- 1:34And the moment he came up from the water, heaven opened.
- 1:37The Spirit of God descended like a dove, and God affirmed him.
- 1:41Obedience opened the door to divine confirmation.
- 1:44Choosing God's way won't always be popular or easy.
- 1:48Sometimes it won't even make sense to the people around you.
- 1:51But it always leads to life. It leads to clarity, peace, and
- 1:54purpose. When you choose His way over
- 1:57your own, you're not losing control.
- 1:58You're placing your life in the safest hands possible.
- 2:02Let's pray. Heavenly Father, help me release
- 2:04the need to be wise in my own eyes.
- 2:07Teach me to trust You, to honor You, and to turn away from
- 2:10anything that pulls me from Your path.
- 2:13Thank You for hearing me when I call and for setting me apart as
- 2:15Yours. Give me the courage to choose
- 2:17obedience, even when it's uncomfortable or misunderstood.

- 4:01Bible for the chief musician on stringed instruments.
- 4:05A Psalm by David. Answer me when I call God of my
- 4:08righteousness, give me relief from my distress.
- 4:11Have mercy on me and hear my prayer.
- 4:13You sons of men, how long shall my glory be turned into
- 4:16dishonor? Will you love vanity and seek
- 4:19after falsehood? Selah but know that Yahweh has
- 4:22set apart for himself him who is godly.
- 4:24Yahweh will hear when I call to Him.
- 4:26Stand in awe and don't sin. Search your own heart on your
- 4:29bed and be still. Selah Offer the sacrifices of
- 4:32righteousness. Put your trust in Yahweh.
- 4:35Many say who will show us any good?
- 4:37Yahweh, let the light of your face shine on us.
- 4:40You have put gladness in my heart more than when their grain
- 4:42and their new wine are increased.
- 4:44In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep for you alone.
- 4:48Yahweh make me live in safety. Matthew Chapter 3 World English
- 4:52Bible In those days John the Baptizer came preaching in the
- 4:55wilderness of Judea saying Repent for the Kingdom of heaven
- 4:58is at hand. For this is he who was spoken of
- 5:01by Isaiah the prophet, saying, the voice of one crying in the
- 5:05wilderness, make the way of the Lord ready, make his path
- 5:07straight. Now John himself wore clothing
- 5:10made of camel's hair with a leather belt around his waist.
- 5:13His food was locusts and wild honey.
- 5:16Then people from Jerusalem, all of Judea, and all the region
- 5:19around the Jordan went out to him.
- 5:21They were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.
- 5:25But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming
- 5:28for his baptism, he said to them, You offspring of Vipers,
- 5:32who warned you to flee from the wrath to come, therefore produce
- 5:35fruit worthy of repentance. Don't think to yourselves we
- 5:39have Abraham for our father. For I tell you that God is able
- 5:42to raise up children to Abraham from these stones even now.
- 5:46The axe lies at the root of the trees.
- 5:48Therefore every tree that doesn't produce good fruit is
- 5:50cut down and cast into the fire. I indeed baptize you in water
- 5:55for repentance, but he who comes after me is mightier than I,
- 5:59whose sandals I am not worthy to carry.
- 6:01He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit.
- 6:03His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will thoroughly
- 6:06cleanse his thrashing floor. He will gather his wheat into
- 6:09the barn, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.
- 6:14Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John to be
- 6:17baptized by him. But John would have hindered
- 6:19him, saying, I need to be baptized by you, and you come to
- 6:22me. But Jesus answering, said to
- 6:25him, allow it now, for this is the fitting way for us to
- 6:28fulfill all righteousness. Then he allowed him.
- 6:31Jesus, when he was baptized, went up directly from the water,
- 6:35and behold, the heavens were open to him.
- 6:38He saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and coming
- 6:41on him. Behold, a voice out of the
- 6:43heaven said, This is my beloved son, with whom I am well
- 6:46pleased. Thanks for joining us on Bible
