- 0:00Speaker 1: Why does this game mean so much? You're with the
- 0:02Speaker 1: hands on impact.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Yeah, it's really special to be part of this league initiative.
- 0:06Speaker 2: All thirty two teams participate. But it's one of the
- 0:09Speaker 2: most beautiful nights here at Climate Pledgerina. Everything flips to Lavender,
- 0:13Speaker 2: but it is so much bigger than that. Tonight, though,
- 0:16Speaker 2: is really special because we will physically be doing some
- 0:19Speaker 2: cancer screening here on site. Last year we screened I
- 0:22Speaker 2: think over one hundred men with just a simple blood test,
- 0:26Speaker 2: and so it is really important because the message we're
- 0:28Speaker 2: really trying to communicate is that early detection can really
- 0:31Speaker 2: save lives.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Well, the front door advertising here with how this turns
- 0:34Speaker 1: into Lavender really just strikes the I. It's done so
- 0:36Speaker 1: for me for so many years. We'll get into more
- 0:38Speaker 1: of the screening part of this because it's so important,
- 0:40Speaker 1: but I mean, what examples elsewhere can you think of
- 0:43Speaker 1: with this game and the event that tells the greatest
- 0:46Speaker 1: kind of story that just validates why the Kraken and
- 0:50Speaker 1: the rest of the NHL do this.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean we actually have a patient here with
- 0:54Speaker 2: us tonight that did this screening last year and is
- 0:58Speaker 2: about to finish their treatment and so it quite literally
- 1:02Speaker 2: is a one for one example of like why this
- 1:04Speaker 2: night is so impactful and why the NHL pushes a
- 1:07Speaker 2: story like this. We are literally saving lives, and I
- 1:10Speaker 2: think sometimes when you get wrapped up in sports and emotions,
- 1:14Speaker 2: it's hard to remember that at the end of the day,
- 1:16Speaker 2: you know, we're all humans and it's important to increase
- 1:19Speaker 2: the longevity and live really healthy lives. And I think
- 1:21Speaker 2: that's what our partnership with Virginia Mason Franciscan Health is
- 1:24Speaker 2: really about, is really encouraging a healthy lifestyle, and early
- 1:27Speaker 2: detection is really a part of that.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Jaden Schwartz's story tells a lot about this saving here
- 1:32Speaker 1: his sister Mandy a tribute to this often it's a
- 1:34Speaker 1: story that really bears repeating and the reason why that
- 1:37Speaker 1: this game is so important. And add to that, you've
- 1:39Speaker 1: got players going to hospitals, you're in there with them.
- 1:42Speaker 1: You've got players jerseys going up here for auction among
- 1:45Speaker 1: other ventures. So what difference have the players made here
- 1:48Speaker 1: for hockeyfis cancer?
- 1:49Speaker 2: Yeah, Jaden has been such a phenomenal extension of our
- 1:52Speaker 2: partnership with Virginia Mason Franciscan Health. He himself has done
- 1:56Speaker 2: a ton of hospital visits. Just last week, we took
- 1:58Speaker 2: six guys down over to Burien to Saint Anne Hospital
- 2:02Speaker 2: just to visit the cancer center itself and also really
- 2:05Speaker 2: uplift the lives of the staff working there that are
- 2:08Speaker 2: really in it. But the players are totally bought in.
- 2:11Speaker 2: It's been really cool even just downstairs watching them walk
- 2:14Speaker 2: in in the Hockey Fights Cancer jerseys. But they're incredible
- 2:17Speaker 2: proponents for this night, and it's really nice to see
- 2:19Speaker 2: them dive in.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Bill brought to joining us here in the intermission, and
- 2:22Speaker 1: I want to talk about the cancer screenings because I
- 2:24Speaker 1: mean this is kind of close to home for me.
- 2:25Speaker 1: I'm getting up there in the age category, so you
- 2:27Speaker 1: had to really kind of think about this stuff. You know,
- 2:30Speaker 1: what do you appreciate about the different types of ways
- 2:32Speaker 1: that fans can jump in with different types of screenings
- 2:36Speaker 1: here and then benefit as well.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Yeah, So with Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, we've got the
- 2:41Speaker 2: simple PSA blood test tonight, but we also have a
- 2:46Speaker 2: mobile lung cancer screening unit that I know they've brought
- 2:49Speaker 2: to other sports teams here locally in Seattle, and I
- 2:52Speaker 2: know they've got a mobile Mammogram clinic as well, and
- 2:54Speaker 2: so just be on the lookout for other opportunities that
- 2:58Speaker 2: fans can engage. But you can do tonight specifically encourage
- 3:01Speaker 2: folks to go participate in the screening. We've got I
- 3:04Speaker 2: Fight four cards for everyone, and of course these beautiful
- 3:07Speaker 2: beanies to really just continue to.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Share the message outside of this A Kraken all the
- 3:12Speaker 1: five k It was at Green Lake back on October fourth.
- 3:15Speaker 1: What do you recall about that day and how much
- 3:18Speaker 1: it moved the dial here for this event?
- 3:20Speaker 2: Yeah, this night is just a piece of our ongoing
- 3:22Speaker 2: activations with Virginia Mason Franciscan Health throughout the year. The
- 3:25Speaker 2: five case such a fun way to kick it all
- 3:27Speaker 2: off in early October. We raised almost fourteen thousand dollars
- 3:30Speaker 2: that night, and then of course tonight we'll have the
- 3:33Speaker 2: anchor auction benefiting the Virginia Mason Franciscan Health Crack and
- 3:36Speaker 2: Hockey Fights Cancer Fund and the team stores even adding
- 3:39Speaker 2: a roundup for tonight that normally will go to a
- 3:42Speaker 2: Wonder Foundation, but Wonder Foundation will be routing the funds
- 3:45Speaker 2: to the Hockey Fights Cancer Fund.
- 3:47Speaker 1: What a movement, what a moment, What a night. Mel,
- 3:49Speaker 1: thank you so much, Thanks guys,
