Latest / Hutton & Withrow Show / Hutton & Withrow: Lane Kiffin vs. the SEC: College Football’s Eligibility Fight Gets Ugly | Hour 1
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: We are out of the gates on Sporting State.
- 0:02Speaker 2: It's Hutton and Withrow, Monday morning. Glad you're with us. Withrow,
- 0:06Speaker 2: here we go again. We're presented by Hard Rock Bet.
- 0:09Speaker 2: A lot to get to as we kick off the week, man.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Hutton, it's the first Monday that we have college football
- 0:16Speaker 1: to discuss. We've got a full preseason for the Titans
- 0:20Speaker 1: to get into and an NFL team to cross the league.
- 0:23Speaker 1: We've got Will Levis, no longer the franchise quarterback of
- 0:26Speaker 1: the Tennessee Titans officially.
- 0:27Speaker 2: No, he's not.
- 0:28Speaker 1: He's gone. And we got people across the Big Ten,
- 0:32Speaker 1: you know, hey, Big Ten arguing right now just means
- 0:34Speaker 1: more for them. They're the better conference. Hard to argue
- 0:36Speaker 1: against that right now. But when it comes to support
- 0:40Speaker 1: across every single program in the Big Ten, they are
- 0:43Speaker 1: still woefully lacking compared to the SEC, as we saw
- 0:46Speaker 1: with a couple of fan bases.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Man, how about just the Week Zero reactions? I hate
- 0:50Speaker 2: saying Week Zero, by the way. I still hate it.
- 0:53Speaker 2: But it was good to see football on the screen, nonetheless.
- 0:56Speaker 2: I'm never going to complain about watching football again. Unless
- 0:59Speaker 2: it's preseason football. I don't know why I subjected myself
- 1:03Speaker 2: to go in to even cover the Titans preseason game
- 1:05Speaker 2: against the Bears. But I did.
- 1:09Speaker 1: There's a special place in NFL heaven for any fan
- 1:11Speaker 1: who paid money to go to that game on Saturday night.
- 1:16Speaker 2: I guess that's what the USC fans are thinking.
- 1:19Speaker 1: You get the free Sunday ticket in heaven. You get
- 1:23Speaker 1: all the perks of a season ticket holder for every
- 1:25Speaker 1: NFL fan base. If you actually handed money over to
- 1:28Speaker 1: any organization to watch a final preseason game and you
- 1:32Speaker 1: sat in the sun at any of these games or
- 1:35Speaker 1: in any type of heat and drove and tried to
- 1:37Speaker 1: park to go to a game, there is a special
- 1:40Speaker 1: seat in heaven reserved for you.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Yes, and does that mean it's the opposite if you
- 1:45Speaker 2: told fans you were playing starters for the first half
- 1:47Speaker 2: of your final press conference?
- 1:51Speaker 1: That is a great bait and switch for the Titans,
- 1:53Speaker 1: said Robert Zala.
- 1:54Speaker 2: It really was.
- 1:54Speaker 1: You're going to see Cam Ward again. oh, hey, by
- 1:56Speaker 1: the way, psych, we're going to see if Will Levis
- 1:59Speaker 1: can play well enough so we can trade him. And
- 2:01Speaker 1: guess what?
- 2:01Speaker 2: He didn't. Docker.
- 2:04Speaker 3: I know.
- 2:05Speaker 1: By the way, Clay's taking a victory lap over being
- 2:08Speaker 1: the only one who didn't like the Will Levis pick.
- 2:11Speaker 1: I will raise my hand and say, I never even
- 2:14Speaker 1: jokingly said he was good the way Clay did. And
- 2:17Speaker 1: Kelly in Vegas just nailed him for that because he
- 2:20Speaker 1: was being sarcastic after the one good performance against the Falcons.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Never liked the pick. Never thought it was going to work.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Didn't like the fact that when he had time with
- 2:28Speaker 1: Peyton Manning at that quarterback camp that was on ESPN,
- 2:31Speaker 1: his first question was, how do you go about marketing yourself?
- 2:35Speaker 1: And Peyton Manning's response was, why don't you worry about
- 2:37Speaker 1: being a good quarterback before you worry about your marketing?
- 2:40Speaker 1: I knew right then it was going to be a disaster,
- 2:42Speaker 1: and it was.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Well, because less than a year later, he does a
- 2:45Speaker 2: mayonnaise commercial. And that was only second most embarrassing compared
- 2:50Speaker 2: to the memes that he was known for after every game.
- 2:54Speaker 2: It was a total disaster, man. I've got so many
- 2:57Speaker 2: thoughts on that. How do you not view Lincoln Riley
- 3:02Speaker 2: right now as that? Didn't the fan base say everything?
- 3:07Speaker 1: I mean, yes. Look, just knee-jerk reaction to college football.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Week zero, as we're going to call it here. I
- 3:15Speaker 1: know there was a heat advisory in L.A.
- 3:17Speaker 2: It was like 92 degrees.
- 3:18Speaker 1: That kickoff, right? It's going to be hot everywhere in America.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Welcome to 10 a.m. in Nashville.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Welcome to right now in Nashville.
- 3:25Speaker 2: And welcome to Los Angeles. Welcome to Los Angeles. Yes.
- 3:28Speaker 1: When you're not on the coast in L.A., it gets hot.
- 3:31Speaker 1: And that is not on the coast where they play
- 3:33Speaker 1: at USC. There is a heat advisory. We all understand that.
- 3:36Speaker 1: People are saying you're going to push games early and
- 3:38Speaker 1: early into August. It's going to be a problem with
- 3:40Speaker 1: global warming and it being so hot and everything else.
- 3:42Speaker 1: That is a specific fan base problem. They are not
- 3:45Speaker 1: excited about USC. They're not excited about Lincoln Riley. It
- 3:50Speaker 1: is a very fickle sports market to begin with in
- 3:52Speaker 1: Los Angeles. There's obviously a lot of options of things
- 3:55Speaker 1: to do, and it was an embarrassing turnout from their
- 3:58Speaker 1: fan base. It was even worse at Stanford. You know
- 4:03Speaker 1: the empty seats Twitter page?
- 4:05Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 4:06Speaker 1: I thought this was a joke. I think I saw
- 4:09Speaker 1: our friend Janine Edwards repost this Stanford kickoff. The USC
- 4:14Speaker 1: thing is on video. I've seen it. the NBC, the
- 4:18Speaker 1: 360 cam go around the stadium as kickoff's happening, that
- 4:21Speaker 1: you could see a screenshot of it right here where
- 4:24Speaker 1: it's a terrible crowd. That Stanford crowd, I thought this
- 4:26Speaker 1: had to be like a spring game from five years
- 4:28Speaker 1: ago that someone's attached themselves to and put it out.
- 4:31Speaker 1: It looks that bad.
- 4:33Speaker 2: It looks like what Minneapolis, whenever the Titans played at Minnesota,
- 4:38Speaker 2: it was week two of the COVID season. And I
- 4:43Speaker 2: was on the road in the visiting radio booth. No
- 4:45Speaker 2: one in the stadium, but there was an NFL game
- 4:47Speaker 2: going on. That's what it looked like to me, Jeff,
- 4:49Speaker 2: from that view of the press box from Gene.
- 4:51Speaker 1: I couldn't believe it when I saw it. I mean,
- 4:53Speaker 1: that is putrid. I don't want to hear excuses. What
- 4:56Speaker 1: did you say on Friday about Stanford's NIL? Well, they're
- 5:00Speaker 1: trying to up the game with Andrew Luck and everything. Hutton,
- 5:03Speaker 1: we called a game at Page High School. Mark knows
- 5:05Speaker 1: what I'm talking about on Friday night. I think there
- 5:07Speaker 1: were more people at Page than there were at Stanford.
- 5:10Speaker 1: I really do believe that the crowd at Page was
- 5:12Speaker 1: bigger than Stanford for kickoff. When you think about all
- 5:15Speaker 1: the people around the stadium, the support is not going
- 5:18Speaker 1: to be good enough. And again, this is what... Big
- 5:22Speaker 1: Ten people get pissed off about this because, hey, guys,
- 5:24Speaker 1: we're winning national titles. That's what you bragged about. Now
- 5:27Speaker 1: we're doing it. Now we're the best conference. That's fine.
- 5:30Speaker 1: If your one barometer is a national title, yes, the
- 5:32Speaker 1: Big Ten is better. Yes, the Big Ten has powerful
- 5:35Speaker 1: programs with huge support that are winning at a high
- 5:38Speaker 1: level and getting some of the best players in college football. Also, yes,
- 5:42Speaker 1: the bottom of your conference is not as good as
- 5:45Speaker 1: the bottom of the SEC's conference. Period.
- 5:48Speaker 2: That's like telling the SEC Missouri's their problem if they
- 5:51Speaker 2: came in and they were 600 fans in. And now look,
- 5:54Speaker 2: I know.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Stanford's not in the Big Ten, so take them out
- 5:56Speaker 1: of the equation. USC is in the Big Ten. But, Hutton,
- 5:59Speaker 1: there's also a common problem here with misfits. Nothing makes
- 6:02Speaker 1: sense about Stanford and the ACC. That's why Andrew Luck
- 6:06Speaker 1: has such a tough job to get support and get
- 6:08Speaker 1: people wanting to go there because people aren't getting excited
- 6:12Speaker 1: about Stanford taking on Boston College in a conference game.
- 6:17Speaker 1: or Stanford playing Virginia in a conference game. It's a
- 6:21Speaker 1: tough sell for people on the West Coast, and clearly
- 6:24Speaker 1: college football is a tough sell for people at Stanford
- 6:26Speaker 1: right now because no one wanted to go watch their
- 6:29Speaker 1: team kick off the season.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Yeah, and if you're Stanford, I guess you do the
- 6:32Speaker 2: ACC thing so you can play Olympic sports competitively at
- 6:36Speaker 2: a D1 level, Power 4 level. I don't know. It's
- 6:41Speaker 2: their leadership's fault in the Pac-12. Ultimately, the same thing
- 6:44Speaker 2: for USC or all of them. They're all in that
- 6:47Speaker 2: same boat. Where else do they go? Big 12 didn't
- 6:52Speaker 2: really pony up until they picked up who they wanted
- 6:55Speaker 2: to pick up. It's crazy, man.
- 6:57Speaker 1: You go to Stanford because of Stanford. It's a great school.
- 7:00Speaker 1: It's Palo Alto. We all know why you would go
- 7:02Speaker 1: to Stanford. But just from a football, any competition rivalry standpoint,
- 7:09Speaker 1: once the Pac-12 dissolved... Those teams, those schools, they're homeless
- 7:17Speaker 1: in terms of conference. No one cares about Stanford and
- 7:20Speaker 1: the ACC. Stanford is Stanford on its own merit. No
- 7:23Speaker 1: one cares about going there for that reason. USC, and look,
- 7:28Speaker 1: here's the other knee-jerk reaction for this week. I think
- 7:30Speaker 1: there are at least two jobs that are going to
- 7:32Speaker 1: be open that are big at the end of the year.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Florida State looked pathetic. Against New Mexico State. That was
- 7:38Speaker 1: way too much of a dogfight in week one for
- 7:40Speaker 1: a team that I think was like a 30-point, 38-point
- 7:43Speaker 1: favorite to win 34-17. And then USC, I'm watching that
- 7:48Speaker 1: second half. I know they're up 28-0 at halftime, but
- 7:51Speaker 1: they sleepwalked against San Jose State. San Jose State allowed
- 7:54Speaker 1: them to, I think they win by 16. In the end,
- 7:56Speaker 1: a very uninspired performance, which, Hutton, I think uninspired is
- 8:00Speaker 1: the word you could use to sum up the entire
- 8:02Speaker 1: Lincoln-Riley experiment at USC so far.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Totally agree with you, man. Not uninspired. UNLV and Memphis.
- 8:11Speaker 2: How long did you stay up to watch this game, Jack?
- 8:12Speaker 2: Because I watched all of it.
- 8:14Speaker 1: I did not stay up late enough to watch all
- 8:16Speaker 1: of it.
- 8:16Speaker 2: I saw the highlights. It was a blast.
- 8:18Speaker 1: I'm glad you watched.
- 8:19Speaker 2: It, Hutton.
- 8:20Speaker 1: I love our guy Charles Huff.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Me too.
- 8:22Speaker 1: By the way, I'm texting with Coach Huff right now,
- 8:26Speaker 1: and we hope to get him on either tomorrow or Wednesday.
- 8:28Speaker 2: Did you see him get the personal foul he got
- 8:30Speaker 2: unsportsmanlike on him? Yes. I did see that on the highlights.
- 8:35Speaker 2: I thought back to our interview with him. I'm like, oh,
- 8:37Speaker 2: I have a feeling. Because we talked about officials and
- 8:39Speaker 2: their conversations on the sideline. And he's just like, I'm
- 8:43Speaker 2: a player. I love that guy. He is all player,
- 8:48Speaker 2: player coach. So, you know, well done by him. Also,
- 8:52Speaker 2: I mean, just UNLV, too. That was a great back
- 8:55Speaker 2: and forth. Timmy B. Tim Brando crushed it on the call, too.
- 9:00Speaker 2: He starts talking about his golf game, okay? his handicap.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Then he talked about his belt size. He goes, and
- 9:08Speaker 2: I'll stop there because it kept going lower.
- 9:13Speaker 1: The sound of Timmy B. Hutton sounds like college sports,
- 9:15Speaker 1: not just football, but he's so well-versed in college basketball too.
- 9:18Speaker 1: So it was good hearing his voice as sort of
- 9:21Speaker 1: a soundtrack of the start of college football. That game delivered.
- 9:25Speaker 1: The other games did not. Another takeaway, how about Virginia
- 9:29Speaker 1: over NC State? I think NC State may have a
- 9:31Speaker 1: coaching vacancy at the end of the year because they
- 9:33Speaker 1: look terrible.
- 9:34Speaker 2: And how about Carolina?
- 9:36Speaker 3: Yes.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Hey, Bill Belichick. Here's my question to you, Hunt. And look,
- 9:40Speaker 1: I think you could answer, hey, all of this could
- 9:42Speaker 1: be true in some way. Was this a return to, okay,
- 9:47Speaker 1: Bill Belichick, we forgot that the dude knows how to
- 9:50Speaker 1: coach ball. And this team is going to overachieve all year.
- 9:53Speaker 1: And they're going to be a lot better than anyone
- 9:56Speaker 1: expected because Bill Belichick was motivated throughout all the turmoil
- 9:59Speaker 1: with the and now he's ready to deliver some receipts
- 10:04Speaker 1: that he kept with some people. Or was this simply
- 10:07Speaker 1: a bad weather game with a good defensive-minded head coach
- 10:11Speaker 1: in Bill Belichick, and we're going to look back at
- 10:13Speaker 1: the end of the year and say, remember when North
- 10:15Speaker 1: Carolina beat TCU? How crazy was that? and how that
- 10:18Speaker 1: was just a weird one-off anomaly. Which one do you
- 10:21Speaker 1: fall on when you watch North Carolina and Belichick?
- 10:24Speaker 2: Okay, right now I fall on the latter because I
- 10:27Speaker 2: also watched Colorado beat the brakes off of TCU one
- 10:33Speaker 2: year to open the season. I also remember Ken Wisenhunt,
- 10:36Speaker 2: and I'm not trying to compare the two and the
- 10:38Speaker 2: NFL level, but when you have an all-off season opportunity
- 10:42Speaker 2: for coaches to game plan and scout another opponent, Generally,
- 10:46Speaker 2: you have a pretty damn good game plan in week one.
- 10:49Speaker 2: And then week two and week three show receipts. I
- 10:51Speaker 2: think they have Clemson coming up either next week or
- 10:53Speaker 2: the week after.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Yeah, their schedule, Hutton, they're off this week. Then they
- 10:57Speaker 1: get ETSU, so they'll be 2-0. And then they go
- 11:01Speaker 1: to Clemson. They've got a very weird schedule. Because they
- 11:04Speaker 1: started early, they get another bye week on September 26th.
- 11:08Speaker 1: So two of the next four weeks are bye. And then,
- 11:11Speaker 1: I mean, they got a bit of a gauntlet early.
- 11:13Speaker 1: At Clemson, by week, Notre Dame at home, at Pitt,
- 11:17Speaker 1: at Duke.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Okay, so this is the gauntlet, quote-unquote, that Colorado faced
- 11:23Speaker 2: after they started 3-0, or whatever it was. Was it
- 11:26Speaker 2: 3-0 or 4-0? I can never remember. I think it
- 11:27Speaker 2: was 3-0. Point being, we'll start paying attention to Carolina, Clemson.
- 11:34Speaker 2: But we've got to wait a little while for that.
- 11:35Speaker 2: They're going to be 2-0 over the next— they play them
- 11:38Speaker 2: in three weeks— I mean, that'll be a storyline just
- 11:42Speaker 2: because Carolina's going to be 2-0 and that will be
- 11:44Speaker 2: the barometer based on what we see from Clemson to
- 11:46Speaker 2: open the season. Maybe for both teams.
- 11:50Speaker 1: I was shocked. Look, we're going to get into our
- 11:52Speaker 1: Hard Rock Bet segment later. My parlay, only one of
- 11:56Speaker 1: the three hit. I'm at my daughter Lucy's game. I
- 11:59Speaker 1: had to fill in and coach third base. Got to
- 12:01Speaker 1: get back in the mix on Saturday during that game.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Spoiler alert, we got run ruled in that game. So
- 12:07Speaker 1: my return to coaching wasn't as successful as I'd hoped.
- 12:10Speaker 1: But the girls are learning. The girls are learning. But
- 12:12Speaker 1: I get back and check.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Hang on a minute. If I may, your return to
- 12:16Speaker 2: coaching was third base, right?
- 12:18Speaker 3: Yes.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Okay. I just want to clarify. This doesn't go against
- 12:20Speaker 2: your official record.
- 12:21Speaker 1: That's true.
- 12:22Speaker 2: That's true.
- 12:23Speaker 1: We didn't have a lot of girls visit me at
- 12:24Speaker 1: third base either.
- 12:25Speaker 2: I didn't get a lot of run.
- 12:26Speaker 1: I didn't get a lot of reps of sending people home.
- 12:29Speaker 1: When you lose 15-2 in three innings, when the game
- 12:32Speaker 1: ends after three if you're down 12 or more, I
- 12:35Speaker 1: didn't get a lot of run. I had twice say, go, go, go, go, go,
- 12:40Speaker 1: tag and go, tag and go. Yeah, it wasn't great.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Also wasn't great when I got done with the game
- 12:45Speaker 1: and checked my phone and saw it was 15-10 late
- 12:48Speaker 1: third quarter between North Carolina and TCU, and I'm thinking– Oh, boy, oh, boy.
- 12:52Speaker 1: My betting season is off to a great start once again.
- 12:56Speaker 1: The first leg of my parlay is not going to hit.
- 12:58Speaker 2: Look, man, I would have obviously followed you on that
- 13:02Speaker 2: bet as well. We've got some great Hard Rock Bet

- 13:11Speaker 2: looking forward to it. We hope you'll roll with us.

- 14:33Speaker 1: Hard Rock Bet, Bet the Board. Todd Furman is back.
- 14:37Speaker 1: He's back.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Yes, he is.
- 14:38Speaker 1: With him and his co-host.
- 14:40Speaker 2: That's awesome.
- 14:40Speaker 1: They're back with the Bet the Board podcast as part
- 14:42Speaker 1: of the Sporting State Network. And they'll be talking about
- 14:45Speaker 1: Hard Rock Bet and a lot of opportunities there as well.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Can't wait to talk to Todd Furman again.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Let me say something. There are certain things I'm not
- 14:53Speaker 2: sure how fast I would pick up on. One of
- 14:59Speaker 2: them would be play-by-play for hockey. I don't think I
- 15:02Speaker 2: would be great at all at that. Certain things I
- 15:06Speaker 2: do think I could call very well, but not hockey.
- 15:08Speaker 2: I think it would be awful. Also, just memorizing and knowing...
- 15:14Speaker 2: Everything to do with what Hard Rock Bet does, what
- 15:17Speaker 2: Furman does, what Kelly and Ariel and Joe, what they
- 15:20Speaker 2: know just off the top in everything. Todd Furman would
- 15:25Speaker 2: get questions in the national market about who's going to
- 15:27Speaker 2: win the WNBA championship two years from now.
- 15:32Speaker 1: I love what they do, man. What amazes me, and
- 15:35Speaker 1: I think Kelly's really good at this. We had her
- 15:37Speaker 1: on weekly at our old show, too. but the ability
- 15:40Speaker 1: to find info quickly through their notes. I can take
- 15:45Speaker 1: diligent notes, but my note-taking process is I write it
- 15:50Speaker 1: and I hope to memorize it. The process of writing
- 15:53Speaker 1: something down helps you memorize what you're trying to remember
- 15:57Speaker 1: in a note, quote, or whatever it is, or a stat.
- 15:59Speaker 1: So I write them down the way. But, Hutton, if
- 16:01Speaker 1: you ask me to find them as quickly as they do,
- 16:04Speaker 1: the way that Todd or Kelly or Ariel can go
- 16:06Speaker 1: find whatever stat they're looking for immediately on their laptop,
- 16:11Speaker 1: that is a special skill when you're doing a live broadcast.
- 16:14Speaker 1: And I can't find my notes as fast as they can,
- 16:17Speaker 1: which is impressive.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Just one final thought on just the whole model of it. Chad,
- 16:24Speaker 2: I have been in a press box where I'm watching
- 16:27Speaker 2: an app or I'm online, and the app is paused
- 16:32Speaker 2: in real time, and I'm watching TV going, wow, this
- 16:35Speaker 2: is nuts, where even if you're at the stadium, you
- 16:38Speaker 2: couldn't jump on to jump on top of a play
- 16:41Speaker 2: you just saw because the app's paused on the line.
- 16:44Speaker 2: You know what I mean? It is crazy how fast
- 16:47Speaker 2: all that works in real time. I'm fascinated by it,
- 16:50Speaker 2: the whole thing.
- 16:51Speaker 1: I'm fascinated, Hutton, by Lane Kiffin, national pitchman, that we
- 16:56Speaker 1: saw all over the place this weekend. They got the
- 16:59Speaker 1: new Dr. Pepper ads that Lane Kiffin's a part of.
- 17:02Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin's a good football coach. Nobody's going to deny that.
- 17:05Speaker 1: He's a good offensive mind. Lane Kiffin is the stiffest,
- 17:10Speaker 1: most awkward, most uncomfortable actor, pitchman. Hutton, remember him doing
- 17:15Speaker 1: the season ticket thing for Ole Miss that went viral
- 17:18Speaker 1: with all the different takes? They were Florida Atlantic. It
- 17:21Speaker 1: was a Florida Atlantic season package they were doing at
- 17:23Speaker 1: FAU and how bad he was trying to read something
- 17:27Speaker 1: and look like he actually cared about whatever he was reading.
- 17:30Speaker 1: This was Lane Kiffin in a DoorDash ad that we
- 17:33Speaker 1: got beat over the head with all weekend.
- 17:36Speaker 2: W's on your burrito. Put some W's on your crab legs. Nowadays,
- 17:41Speaker 2: everybody in college football has got a deal.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Players, coaches, even mascots.
- 17:50Speaker 2: These free? Why not the fans?
- 17:55Speaker 3: It's about time they got something back, like free groceries
- 17:58Speaker 3: for a year, a sweet ride, or.
- 18:01Speaker 2: Even a house. Oh, this is what NIL is like?
- 18:05Speaker 3: OK.
- 18:07Speaker 2: Eat that W.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Don't fan for free. Order DoorDash on game days and
- 18:11Speaker 1: get rewarded like a football star.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Put some W's on your burrito.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Put some W's on your crab legs.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Put some W's on your pizza too. Do what you
- 18:20Speaker 2: gotta do and eat a W.
- 18:23Speaker 1: How great was Jameis Winston in that, by the way?
- 18:25Speaker 1: Just a complete lunatic, but that's him just playing up
- 18:27Speaker 1: who he is the whole time. Lane Kiffin.
- 18:29Speaker 2: I didn't know. I didn't know if that was James
- 18:30Speaker 2: Winston or Kenan Thompson from SNL.
- 18:33Speaker 1: That's pretty good. Good Kenan Thompson vibes too. Lane Kiffin
- 18:36Speaker 1: looks like a robot that someone tried to reprogram for
- 18:41Speaker 1: a commercial to say, act like you're an actual human being.
- 18:45Speaker 1: And then that's how the robot or the alien would
- 18:47Speaker 1: try to pretend to be enthused about it. Great ride.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Free something for a year. Remember at the end of
- 18:56Speaker 1: Top Gun when Maverick throws his dog tags into the ocean?
- 19:01Speaker 1: And it's the one time I watched Tom Cruise and
- 19:03Speaker 1: I'm like, Tom Cruise looked like someone had to teach
- 19:05Speaker 1: him how to throw a ball or throw an object
- 19:07Speaker 1: 10 seconds before he threw it. And it's like, I
- 19:10Speaker 1: got a Martian that came down and I'm going to
- 19:12Speaker 1: show them how to throw something and never throw anything.
- 19:14Speaker 1: And he pitches it awkwardly into the ocean off the
- 19:17Speaker 1: aircraft carrier. That's Lane Kiffin trying to sell anything To anyone.
- 19:22Speaker 1: He is horrible as an actor.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Horrible.
- 19:26Speaker 1: And I searched on Google, worst athlete slash coach commercial.
- 19:31Speaker 2: Actors of all time. Before you do this, you could
- 19:37Speaker 2: do your list. We should then compile our own depth
- 19:40Speaker 2: chart for this.
- 19:41Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely. I thought this would be a fun depth
- 19:45Speaker 1: chart in honor of Lane Kiffin. Well, first off, and
- 19:47Speaker 1: I don't know if this is because I'm searching it,
- 19:50Speaker 1: but I noticed they have the AI response, which people
- 19:53Speaker 1: are angry about because it doesn't immediately go to anything else.
- 19:56Speaker 1: But the first, the top message you get once you
- 19:59Speaker 1: get to actual websites is from TwitterX. And it's my tweet.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Chad Withrow on X, Lane Kiffin is the stiffest and
- 20:06Speaker 1: worst act. And the AI says Lane Kiffin. If you
- 20:10Speaker 1: search who is the worst, it says Lane Kiffin is
- 20:13Speaker 1: frequently cited by critics and fans as one of the
- 20:15Speaker 1: stiffest and most awkward coach-turned-actors to appear in promotional ads.
- 20:20Speaker 1: The other examples here, Tom Amansky, Fred McGriffin, where he
- 20:26Speaker 1: was clearly given a check and a hat that was
- 20:28Speaker 1: just pulled out of a box and put on to
- 20:30Speaker 1: read the one line. Um, there is BJ Porter, who's
- 20:34Speaker 1: a former college athlete in a sportsmanship, pass it on
- 20:38Speaker 1: promo commercial. I don't know what they're talking about, but
- 20:40Speaker 1: they said he delivers one of the worst performances of
- 20:42Speaker 1: all time. Uh, other athletes who were said to be
- 20:45Speaker 1: bad actors, Larry Bird and Julia serving in a different ads.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Both were bad at times. Hutton, this is going to
- 20:53Speaker 1: be a great depth chart at some point, but, uh,
- 20:55Speaker 1: this kind of goes on to what I said about
- 20:57Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin, uh, The dude does not care about humanity.
- 21:02Speaker 1: He doesn't get real close to people. The dude wants
- 21:05Speaker 1: to win football games at all costs, and that's why
- 21:08Speaker 1: he's now challenging the SEC, and it's going through the
- 21:11Speaker 1: court system. And while I thought the SEC needed to
- 21:14Speaker 1: debap when they initially said, we're going to honor whatever
- 21:17Speaker 1: the court tells us to in terms of LSU taking
- 21:19Speaker 1: on pro players, it now, Hutton, looks like this is
- 21:22Speaker 1: going to be a fight that continues because Thursday the
- 21:25Speaker 1: SEC's released a statement saying, saying basically everybody better lawyer
- 21:28Speaker 1: up because we're showing up to this hearing with lawyers
- 21:31Speaker 1: to argue that we absolutely can penalize LSU for all
- 21:34Speaker 1: of this, and that's going to be our argument. You
- 21:39Speaker 1: know I like discussing conspiracy theories because I like to
- 21:41Speaker 1: talk myself out of it more than into it, right?
- 21:43Speaker 2: Yeah. I think this is all manufactured a bit by
- 21:47Speaker 2: the SEC to get that Sports Act passed. Are they
- 21:52Speaker 2: really going to fight it? Because they sound a little
- 21:53Speaker 2: bit like the NCAA right now because they're losing in court. Um,
- 21:57Speaker 2: and is this going to be like the straw where they're,
- 22:00Speaker 2: cause initially Sankey, correct me if I'm wrong, came out
- 22:02Speaker 2: and said, we need, we're going to go, we're going
- 22:03Speaker 2: to let the government handle this. We're going to, this
- 22:05Speaker 2: is why we need this. Then he reacted to the
- 22:08Speaker 2: big 10. They're fighting it, but how are they really
- 22:11Speaker 2: fighting back? Because the other part of this is you
- 22:15Speaker 2: just saw, you just saw the commercial with Kiffin. He's
- 22:17Speaker 2: all over these ads that they're partnered in and really
- 22:22Speaker 2: college football is controlled by ESPN. And I think initially
- 22:26Speaker 2: Sankey's just wanting to, you know, I don't think they'd
- 22:29Speaker 2: like Kiffin, but Kiffin's the marketing arm right now. By
- 22:33Speaker 2: the way, ESPN, Kiffin's their boy. Saban's taking up for
- 22:38Speaker 2: him last year when he's leaving Ole Miss. Herbstreit, the
- 22:41Speaker 2: whole group.
- 22:42Speaker 1: I think they're going to fight it because Greg Sankey,
- 22:46Speaker 1: everybody else doesn't want it.
- 22:48Speaker 2: I was going to say, he does work for the
- 22:52Speaker 2: presidents and chancellors. I was going to get to that.
- 22:54Speaker 2: And they voted. But then again, some of these judges
- 22:59Speaker 2: and politicians work for these chancellors and presidents and all
- 23:02Speaker 2: these donors that are going through these guys that are
- 23:04Speaker 2: controlling it. It's a weird thing where they're going back
- 23:08Speaker 2: and forth. But in the meantime, NFL players are playing
- 23:11Speaker 2: in the SEC anyway.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Well, I... Yes. Look, I think they're going to fight it.
- 23:18Speaker 1: I don't know if they're going to win. I love
- 23:22Speaker 1: conspiracy hunting on these things.
- 23:24Speaker 2: I'm not saying I totally buy into it, but it
- 23:25Speaker 2: feels a little, not set up, but like they're playing
- 23:28Speaker 2: into it to get federal action.
- 23:31Speaker 1: They're going to constantly end every argument with this is
- 23:34Speaker 1: why the Protect College Sports Act should be passed, right?
- 23:36Speaker 1: Like that's always going to be a thing. Then we
- 23:38Speaker 1: can get away from having to go to these courtroom
- 23:41Speaker 1: hearings and all this. Tom Mars, who I follow, Pete
- 23:45Speaker 1: Thamel put out, this was the statement from the SEC,
- 23:48Speaker 1: the order entered against the SEC and Commissioner Sankey is
- 23:51Speaker 1: a temporary restraining order, not a final ruling. The SEC
- 23:54Speaker 1: and Commissioner Sankey are prepared to contest the allegations in
- 23:58Speaker 1: the plaintiff's petition at Thursday morning's hearing and defend the
- 24:01Speaker 1: SEC's rights as a voluntary association to fulfill its mission
- 24:05Speaker 1: to its member institutions. Again, the argument is you're in
- 24:08Speaker 1: the SEC, we're not making you stay here. If LSU
- 24:12Speaker 1: feels so strongly about this, you can leave the conference
- 24:14Speaker 1: or you can submit to the rule of the law,
- 24:17Speaker 1: the land and the rule of the conference and being
- 24:20Speaker 1: a voluntary member of the SEC. Tom Mars reposted this
- 24:24Speaker 1: and said from the SEC, just as my translation to
- 24:27Speaker 1: Southern speak, we're bringing a platoon of the best lawyers
- 24:30Speaker 1: in America to Thursday's hearing and we'll fight with whoever
- 24:33Speaker 1: has the balls to test us until the last dog
- 24:36Speaker 1: is dead. That last dog dead may be the SEC.
- 24:39Speaker 1: They may continue to get other TROs in different courts,
- 24:43Speaker 1: and this thing continues along until Lane Kiffin plays an
- 24:46Speaker 1: entire year with professional football players on his roster. Now,
- 24:51Speaker 1: I also, nobody likes this. Everybody's against it. People are
- 24:57Speaker 1: praising Eli Drinkwitz over the weekend for his long soliloquy
- 25:00Speaker 1: about the state of college football and who's to blame
- 25:03Speaker 1: and all this.
- 25:04Speaker 2: That's great.
- 25:05Speaker 1: I want these coaches to call out the problem here,
- 25:08Speaker 1: and it's Lane Kiffin. My problem with this is they're
- 25:10Speaker 1: too reluctant to call out any member of their fraternity.
- 25:13Speaker 1: This is not a loophole situation or a everybody's doing it,
- 25:17Speaker 1: now we have to do it too. Every other coach
- 25:20Speaker 1: in the conference so far has been pretty much ten
- 25:22Speaker 1: toes down about we're not going to do this. It's
- 25:25Speaker 1: a bad message to our current locker room. It's bad
- 25:28Speaker 1: for the sport, so we're not going to do it.
- 25:29Speaker 1: No one's forcing Lane Kiffin.
- 25:31Speaker 2: To do this. No, because they all work for the
- 25:32Speaker 2: same agent.
- 25:34Speaker 1: Exactly. So I'm just like, call the guy out. Like,
- 25:37Speaker 1: if you want to really look, I'm glad that somebody
- 25:40Speaker 1: is going to say something. That's fine. And you can
- 25:41Speaker 1: praise Eli Drinkwits all you want. But I'm not going
- 25:44Speaker 1: to fully praise someone until they come out and really
- 25:46Speaker 1: do something daring and say, you know, who's ruining this
- 25:49Speaker 1: for everyone? Coach Kiffin at LSU, if he would shut
- 25:53Speaker 1: up and they would stop filing these lawsuits, everyone would
- 25:56Speaker 1: go back to agreeing that NFL players shouldn't be allowed
- 25:58Speaker 1: to come back and play in college football. But you've
- 26:00Speaker 1: got one rogue warrior out here who's challenging everything, and
- 26:04Speaker 1: it's disrupting the system. But nobody's willing to say that
- 26:08Speaker 1: personally about Lane Kiffin. And I think that's kind of
- 26:10Speaker 1: what bothers me about it.
- 26:12Speaker 2: But like a year and a half ago, this is
- 26:13Speaker 2: a great conversation, because a year and a half ago,
- 26:15Speaker 2: Lane Kiffin would have been the... the anti-hero here instead
- 26:20Speaker 2: of just the villain. The anti-hero in Stone Cold would
- 26:24Speaker 2: have been at Ole Miss as the head coach doing this.
- 26:27Speaker 2: But because of the way things went down and the
- 26:29Speaker 2: way things were handled, he waltzed into LSU, derailed what
- 26:33Speaker 2: was a historic season for Ole Miss, and what could
- 26:36Speaker 2: have been a championship run with everything they had focused
- 26:38Speaker 2: and tightened. We saw them. We saw their season. I'm
- 26:42Speaker 2: saying all that to mean the perception of Lane Kiffin
- 26:45Speaker 2: a year and a half ago, the start of last year,
- 26:48Speaker 2: Way different in how he was handled. And even whenever
- 26:50Speaker 2: things go awry, it's viewed as like, oh, he should
- 26:54Speaker 2: be allowed to coach the Rebels. Come on. And that's
- 26:57Speaker 2: coming from the worldwide leader in all that. It's the
- 27:01Speaker 2: perception of him now versus literally six months ago that
- 27:05Speaker 2: has things weird because the coaches wouldn't have said anything
- 27:10Speaker 2: about it. Because again, it goes back to Jimmy Sexton
- 27:12Speaker 2: and everybody involved there. Everybody gets a raise when Lane
- 27:15Speaker 2: Kiffin moves around.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm really curious to see how College Game Day
- 27:19Speaker 1: handles all this on Saturday. Because you're right, a year ago,
- 27:23Speaker 1: they're all represented. We're going to hear Saban talk about
- 27:25Speaker 1: federal government. Yeah, and I think they'll immediately shift to it.
- 27:29Speaker 1: This is just another example why the government needs to intercede.
- 27:32Speaker 1: And I don't know that they're going to talk specifically.
- 27:35Speaker 1: I'll give one guy who I think might call out
- 27:38Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin personally on that show. Because they all kind
- 27:42Speaker 1: of come in with, here's how you're going to approach it.
- 27:44Speaker 1: Here's how I'm going to approach it. Here's how you're
- 27:45Speaker 1: going to do this. Desmond Howard, I bet, calls out
- 27:47Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Reese. I think Reese would.
- 27:50Speaker 1: Reese or Desmond. I think Desmond Howard would be the
- 27:52Speaker 1: top of the analyst to say, Lane Kiffin needs to
- 27:55Speaker 1: be punished for this because no one else is actively
- 27:59Speaker 1: trying to fight for these guys to come back and play.
- 28:02Speaker 1: No one else is challenging their conference on it. The
- 28:04Speaker 1: conference voted unanimously to not allow it. I think Des
- 28:09Speaker 1: would probably be the one person to say that. That said...
- 28:13Speaker 1: It's another reason why I don't buy into some of
- 28:16Speaker 1: these shows because everybody's too close to each other. I
- 28:19Speaker 1: don't want to hear from Eli Drinkwitz on this unless
- 28:22Speaker 1: you have the balls to stand up and say Lane
- 28:25Speaker 1: Kiffin's a problem, everybody. All of us coaches get together
- 28:28Speaker 1: and say this is bad for the sport, yet one
- 28:30Speaker 1: is out there actively trying to recruit these players to
- 28:33Speaker 1: come back so it can benefit them and them alone.
- 28:37Speaker 1: Somebody else say that. It's not just us. on this
- 28:41Speaker 1: show saying it. I want somebody else to come out
- 28:44Speaker 1: and say that. And Hutton, I think you're spot on
- 28:46Speaker 1: right about this. Those guys who are attached to Lane
- 28:48Speaker 1: Kiffin and Buddy Buddy with them or have the same agent,
- 28:51Speaker 1: they're not going to say anything.
- 28:52Speaker 2: Nope.
- 28:53Speaker 1: On any show.
- 28:54Speaker 2: And it's practically everyone.
- 28:55Speaker 1: It's going to be the problem with the system and
- 28:57Speaker 1: the problem with this and all the courts and we
- 29:01Speaker 1: got to get government to do it. And no one's
- 29:05Speaker 1: making any of these coaches or schools admit these athletes.
- 29:08Speaker 1: They're doing it on their own. That they could easily
- 29:10Speaker 1: take a stand and say, yeah, we're just not going
- 29:11Speaker 1: to do it. But they are.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Chad, real quick. We have seven spots available right now
- 29:18Speaker 2: in our Hutton and Withrow Fantasy Football League. Hit us
- 29:23Speaker 2: up on X. Hit us up in the chat right now.
- 29:26Speaker 2: If you're live in the chat with us on YouTube.
- 29:28Speaker 2: I'm posting right now in the chat as well, by
- 29:30Speaker 2: the way. Let's fill this up because we're going to
- 29:34Speaker 2: do a collective pool vote. We're going to do the
- 29:37Speaker 2: draft on the... Monday night or Tuesday night of next week.
- 29:42Speaker 2: We always wait right until the start of the NFL
- 29:44Speaker 2: season for injuries and full rosters and all the movement.
- 29:49Speaker 2: That's where we're going to do it. We can do
- 29:51Speaker 2: something in person and via online if you can't make it.
- 29:54Speaker 2: If you're out of Nashville or not, it doesn't matter.
- 29:57Speaker 2: Hop in there and let us know. Just subscribe to
- 29:58Speaker 2: the channel. We hope you'll give us a thumbs up there.
- 30:01Speaker 2: And yeah, we have a blast. We always have some
- 30:03Speaker 2: good prizes. And we'll have some familiar faces in there too, Chad.
- 30:06Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to it. I'm glad it's back. I'm
- 30:08Speaker 2: glad it's back and I'm glad it's with some day
- 30:10Speaker 2: one season ticket holders.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Yeah, once we started this show, by the way, Sporting
- 30:14Speaker 1: State Launch is going great. Thanks everybody for supporting so far.
- 30:17Speaker 1: We're going to continue to churn out a bunch of
- 30:19Speaker 1: shows and a bunch of content for you. So stay
- 30:22Speaker 1: right here on the YouTube page. We're now live on
- 30:24Speaker 1: Twitter and X as well. So slowly, this thing, it's layers.
- 30:28Speaker 2: I know.
- 30:28Speaker 1: We're layering this thing up each and every week with
- 30:30Speaker 1: something new and something different. We'll have a guest on
- 30:33Speaker 1: the show at some point this week, too. But part
- 30:35Speaker 1: of those layers, Hutton, when we weren't in full control
- 30:38Speaker 1: of our show, we didn't have a fantasy football league, right?
- 30:44Speaker 1: We got that now. We've got full control over this,
- 30:47Speaker 1: what we do, and we want to interact with people
- 30:49Speaker 1: who interact with us, people who watch the show, who
- 30:51Speaker 1: listen to the show on podcast. So hit us up.
- 30:53Speaker 1: You can DM us. On any of our platforms, you
- 30:56Speaker 1: can hit us up right now in the YouTube chat,
- 30:58Speaker 1: talking to some people in there right now. Let's get
- 31:00Speaker 1: this Fantasy Football League going for Hutton and Withrow the
- 31:03Speaker 1: way it has been in the past. It's going to
- 31:06Speaker 1: be a lot of fun.
- 31:07Speaker 2: A backfire at a ticket promotion to honor a NFL
- 31:12Speaker 2: and a franchise legend in the NFL team. One of
- 31:16Speaker 2: only nine players to rush for 2,000 yards in the
- 31:18Speaker 2: history of the game. It, on surface level, may look cool.
- 31:22Speaker 2: And then it backfired immediately. in the small print, and
- 31:27Speaker 2: I've got some ideas behind what likely happened here and
- 31:32Speaker 2: the incompetence with this Titans ticket promotion. That's coming up
- 31:36Speaker 2: straight ahead. We are presented by Hard Rock Bet. This
- 31:39Speaker 2: is Hutton & Withrow. It is Hutton & Withrow, and
- 31:43Speaker 2: we are presented by Hard Rock Bet. They're Perfect 10,
- 31:48Speaker 2: so is Perfect 10 Mortgage, where the name says it all.
- 31:51Speaker 2: You apply in 10 minutes. and you close in 10 days.
- 31:55Speaker 2: That's right, 10 minutes, 10 days. That's the whole idea here,
- 31:58Speaker 2: a mortgage that's simple, it's fast, it's fair. 10 minutes,
- 32:01Speaker 2: start to finish, right from your phone. No stack of paperwork,
- 32:06Speaker 2: and Chad, most importantly, no sitting across a desk from
- 32:10Speaker 2: some jerk banker who talks it down to you.
- 32:13Speaker 1: Real people giving you real facts, helping you out in
- 32:16Speaker 1: a real way. You want to date the rape. You

- 32:25Speaker 1: How many credit cards are you juggling right now? Every
- 32:28Speaker 1: month you send in the minimum payment and that balance
- 32:30Speaker 1: barely moves because the interest is eating you alive. It
- 32:32Speaker 1: doesn't have to stay that way. With Perfect 10 Mortgage,

- 32:41Speaker 1: simpler monthly payment. One payment, one due date, a whole
- 32:45Speaker 1: lot less stress. Buy new construction. Ask about the builder program.

- 33:11Speaker 1: This advertisement is not a promise to make a loan.
- 33:15Speaker 2: Chad, um, So did you watch most of the Titans'
- 33:19Speaker 2: preseason game at all?
- 33:21Speaker 1: I did not. I had it in a quad box, Hutton,
- 33:24Speaker 1: and I would occasionally go and I would hear it,
- 33:27Speaker 1: and I would go to the audio, which we'll get
- 33:29Speaker 1: into here momentarily, but then I would go and watch
- 33:32Speaker 1: college football games. So I didn't watch much.
- 33:34Speaker 2: So they unveiled, going into the weekend, the $ 28 ticket
- 33:39Speaker 2: promotion where in week one, against the New York Jets,
- 33:48Speaker 2: they're going to honor Chris Johnson, who's going into the Titans'
- 33:52Speaker 2: ring of honor. Of course, one of the greatest players
- 33:56Speaker 2: in franchise history, one of nine players to rush for
- 33:58Speaker 2: 2,000 yards. As most of we all know, he was
- 34:03Speaker 2: diagnosed with ALS horribly, and they're honoring him, and we
- 34:08Speaker 2: will see him at Nissan Stadium week one, honored at halftime.
- 34:14Speaker 2: He's the first Titans draft pick to be going into
- 34:17Speaker 2: the Ring of Honor. Let me say that. That's huge
- 34:22Speaker 2: in and of itself. And I want to preface what
- 34:25Speaker 2: I'm going to say by saying this. Two things. Number one,
- 34:29Speaker 2: the upper deck in a football stadium, I believe, is
- 34:32Speaker 2: the toughest ticket to sell in sports for live sports
- 34:34Speaker 2: right now. Horrible weather most of the time during football season.
- 34:39Speaker 2: Terrible view. Cold, windy, you're either on the sunny side
- 34:43Speaker 2: and you're sweating or you're on the other side and
- 34:45Speaker 2: you're in the shadows. It's just not fun, especially to
- 34:47Speaker 2: watch a losing franchise. You'd rather watch at home. That's
- 34:51Speaker 2: number one. Number two, I don't think Titans ownership, specifically
- 34:56Speaker 2: Amy Adams Strunk, is to blame here for this. But
- 35:01Speaker 2: the perception versus reality of what this is, is just
- 35:05Speaker 2: common sense idiocy with how this comes across. $ 28, 2,000 tickets, okay,
- 35:13Speaker 2: because he rushed for 2,000 yards. It was actually 2,000,
- 35:15Speaker 2: I believe, 2,009 yards, 2,006 yards, one of those. You
- 35:19Speaker 2: could make it 2,006 tickets or 2,009 tickets if you
- 35:22Speaker 2: wanted to with the total yardage. It's 2,000-yard rushing season. Nonetheless,
- 35:30Speaker 2: Dan Patrick reacted to this almost in real time. Just again,
- 35:37Speaker 2: Surface level, they're $ 28 tickets, 2,000 of them to week
- 35:41Speaker 2: one to watch the Titans and the Jets. That tells
- 35:43Speaker 2: you that they're selling 2,000 of their what would be
- 35:48Speaker 2: giveaway tickets to week one of this game.
- 35:50Speaker 1: $ 28 is about $ 26 too much to buy a ticket
- 35:53Speaker 1: to that game, by the way. But go on, continue.
- 35:56Speaker 2: So in the fine print, there's 2,000 of these tickets,
- 36:01Speaker 2: and they're donating $ 5 of the $ 28 tickets to ALS Research.
- 36:07Speaker 2: That comes out to $ 10, 000 of a donation. Okay. Let
- 36:12Speaker 2: me say that I did a fundraiser on behalf of
- 36:17Speaker 2: Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in 2019. And Amy Adams Strunk
- 36:20Speaker 2: donated things behind the scenes that no one knows about
- 36:24Speaker 2: and was extremely generous to the sum of $ 10, 000, which
- 36:28Speaker 2: I announced publicly in 2019. I have not talked to
- 36:32Speaker 2: anybody within the organization about this, Chad, but there is
- 36:35Speaker 2: no doubt in my mind that that they probably, because
- 36:39Speaker 2: this is where they get way off the rails here
- 36:41Speaker 2: with what they do versus what they probably intend. She's
- 36:46Speaker 2: probably going to donate something and announce it at halftime
- 36:48Speaker 2: of the honor of Chris Johnson with him there. And
- 36:51Speaker 2: now it looks like she's donating $ 10, 000 to ALS Research
- 36:54Speaker 2: for someone who's making $ 500 million week one before they
- 36:57Speaker 2: even kick off the football on their media package. I
- 37:01Speaker 2: think you get my point here. This is low-hanging fruit.
- 37:05Speaker 2: It's a lazy ticket promotion. Minor League Baseball would have
- 37:08Speaker 2: been better at this. And I know you're tying in
- 37:10Speaker 2: the number 28 and you're tying in the 2,000 yards,
- 37:13Speaker 2: but it's $ 28 tickets for otherwise tickets you give to
- 37:17Speaker 2: a high school football team to sit upstairs, watch the
- 37:20Speaker 2: ants play on an NFL stadium, and donating $ 5 to it.
- 37:26Speaker 2: You're still getting concessions and parking. I mean, again, you
- 37:29Speaker 2: understand where I'm going here. There are fans who paid
- 37:31Speaker 2: more to the preseason game where they thought the starters
- 37:33Speaker 2: were going to play for the first half because the
- 37:34Speaker 2: head coach said so in the final press conference. And
- 37:37Speaker 2: everyone's writing that as a headline and didn't see anybody.
- 37:40Speaker 2: And now, you know, they're giving $ 5 to a chair.
- 37:46Speaker 2: I am all for them donating. Now they're going to
- 37:49Speaker 2: look like reactionary to this. And we already know how
- 37:54Speaker 2: sensitive they are to bad publicity and media coverage when
- 37:58Speaker 2: it's not looking good on the organization. This should have
- 38:02Speaker 2: been avoided, a no-brainer, and that just kind of says
- 38:05Speaker 2: where they are right now.
- 38:08Speaker 1: So $ 5 of the $ 28 they charged actually went to
- 38:12Speaker 1: ALS Research?
- 38:13Speaker 2: Yes, because initially, I mean, if you do the math,
- 38:16Speaker 2: it's a small donation anyway. It's a nice donation for
- 38:20Speaker 2: you or I to make. Clay's donated $ 10 million to
- 38:26Speaker 2: Vanderbilt Law again. The $ 5... Give 100% of all the
- 38:32Speaker 2: preseason games. Any preseason game you have at home, 100%
- 38:36Speaker 2: of every ticket should go to ALS research.
- 38:39Speaker 1: That is absurd.
- 38:40Speaker 2: Hang on. I understand, but I'm saying behind the scenes here,
- 38:46Speaker 2: she may have been planning to do something. And probably
- 38:50Speaker 2: a donation that's more than just the proceeds. Who knows?
- 38:54Speaker 2: What I'm saying is.
- 38:57Speaker 2: I just don't think the people in the building where
- 39:00Speaker 2: she's not there are really, you know, thinking twice about
- 39:06Speaker 2: something other than, oh, this ties in, let's roll this out.
- 39:09Speaker 2: Because there's empties upstairs. And the Jets fans aren't filling
- 39:11Speaker 2: them either.
- 39:13Speaker 1: Well, I think a lot of this stuff is just
- 39:15Speaker 1: done out of fear.
- 39:16Speaker 3: Right?
- 39:16Speaker 1: And I'm with you. I think Amy Adams Strong probably
- 39:18Speaker 1: will give a sizable donation. At some point, and they've
- 39:21Speaker 1: been planning that for a while. It's a terrible ticket
- 39:24Speaker 1: promotion when you're only giving that small of a percentage
- 39:27Speaker 1: of the tickets you're offering for Chris Johnson.
- 39:29Speaker 2: And his honor. Oh, it's in really fine print on
- 39:32Speaker 2: the promo, on the ad.
- 39:33Speaker 1: Yeah, that's bad. It's a bad look. It's a bad move.
- 39:36Speaker 1: I'm glad that you brought it up.
- 39:37Speaker 2: Well, and it's the fans paying for it, to your point.
- 39:40Speaker 2: You know, it's like, honor CJ. We're unleashing a block
- 39:44Speaker 2: of 2,000 tickets. It's like, if there were 3,000, they'd
- 39:47Speaker 2: sell 3,000 of them.
- 39:49Speaker 1: Well, also, this is my issue with the organization and
- 39:54Speaker 1: a lot of them. I think so much is just
- 39:55Speaker 1: done out of fear. Because there's got to be one
- 39:57Speaker 1: person smart enough in that room that's making this decision
- 40:00Speaker 1: to say, hey, guys, let's offer 100% of those 2,000
- 40:04Speaker 1: tickets we sold to ALS. That will look a lot better.
- 40:07Speaker 1: We're not selling those tickets anyway to this dump of
- 40:10Speaker 1: a stadium on the way out for this terrible football team.
- 40:14Speaker 1: In a meaningless preseason game. So let's just, we're going
- 40:17Speaker 1: to look a lot better and it's the right thing
- 40:18Speaker 1: to do if we give 100% of the proceeds to
- 40:22Speaker 1: ALS and not $ 5 of the $ 28 we're charging for
- 40:26Speaker 1: these tickets. Somebody there, I'm going to give them some
- 40:28Speaker 1: credit here. Somebody there's got to be smart enough to
- 40:31Speaker 1: understand that. I think they're afraid to raise the issue
- 40:34Speaker 1: because someone above them is the one who raised it
- 40:37Speaker 1: and then they're not going to challenge that person. Speaking
- 40:40Speaker 1: of not challenging people.
- 40:41Speaker 2: Go ahead.
- 40:42Speaker 1: I love Charles Davis to death. My goodness, Hutton. Whoever
- 40:46Speaker 1: that guy is with him calling the games for the
- 40:49Speaker 1: preseason and him.
- 40:51Speaker 2: Burke Halter, is that his name?
- 40:52Speaker 1: Sure.
- 40:54Speaker 2: And he's the voice of Notre Dame.
- 40:56Speaker 1: Okay, great. I hope he's better with Notre Dame.
- 40:59Speaker 2: I think that's who it is.
- 41:01Speaker 1: They treat them like Pop Warner children. We are harder
- 41:05Speaker 1: on high school kids during a broadcast. And we're not
- 41:08Speaker 1: hard on high school kids at all during the broadcast.
- 41:10Speaker 1: But the way they treat that team with kid gloves
- 41:13Speaker 1: and try to put this rosy sheen on everything, even
- 41:16Speaker 1: when it's really bad, and anyone watching can tell you
- 41:19Speaker 1: it's really bad. And they're like, you know, I really
- 41:21Speaker 1: just thought, I think that this team's got so much
- 41:24Speaker 1: to look forward to. And I agree with Coach Sala
- 41:26Speaker 1: that they got everything out of this preseason they wanted
- 41:29Speaker 1: and more. This is going to be such an exciting
- 41:32Speaker 1: year for the Titans. I'm thinking, Do you have someone
- 41:34Speaker 1: in your ear like Will Smith and Hitch that talks
- 41:38Speaker 1: people through dates and they're telling you, hey, plug the
- 41:41Speaker 1: offensive line again. Hey, plug all the young talent. Plug
- 41:45Speaker 1: how hard they've worked in the preseason one more time.
- 41:49Speaker 1: It's ridiculous watching those games. I had to turn off
- 41:51Speaker 1: the sound of it. And again, I like Charles Davis
- 41:55Speaker 1: most of the time. But when he's paid by the
- 41:57Speaker 1: Tennessee Titans to do a game, I don't know how
- 42:00Speaker 1: people watch it and don't hear anything other than, state
- 42:04Speaker 1: run over the top Homer media, trying to convince people
- 42:10Speaker 1: that things are incredibly positive when they're not.
- 42:13Speaker 2: I've got, I've got, I've got thoughts on this later
- 42:15Speaker 2: in the show because it ties in. Okay. Um, yes.
- 42:18Speaker 2: I mean, have you, it's, it's literally anything right now, um,
- 42:21Speaker 2: coming out of the organization. Um, you can't ask Cam
- 42:26Speaker 2: Ward if he's had a good preseason. Um, but, but again, that's,
- 42:30Speaker 2: that's part for everybody's walking on eggshells. Um, And that
- 42:34Speaker 2: comes with the territory, I guess, whenever you fire as
- 42:36Speaker 2: many people as they have who have been there long
- 42:38Speaker 2: enough to be fired.
- 42:40Speaker 1: You fire everybody, and then you've got a staffer who's
- 42:45Speaker 1: making fun of somebody for getting fired at some point,
- 42:47Speaker 1: who everybody there is probably afraid of getting fired also.
- 42:50Speaker 1: So I don't know that I would go that route
- 42:52Speaker 1: with someone professionally either. Yeah, I think all of it
- 42:55Speaker 1: is just a byproduct, like you said, of people being afraid.
- 42:58Speaker 2: Right.
- 42:59Speaker 1: For whatever reason, people are walking around in eggshells. I
- 43:02Speaker 1: think the ticket promotion is an example. Someone over there
- 43:04Speaker 1: is smart enough to know they should give 100% of
- 43:05Speaker 1: the proceeds, but no one raised the issue.
- 43:08Speaker 2: I don't think it's being afraid as much as it
- 43:10Speaker 2: is incompetence. That's just not knowing what you're doing and
- 43:13Speaker 2: the optics of it. You know what that is, Chad?
- 43:15Speaker 2: That's someone who hasn't seen Chris Johnson play, is what
- 43:17Speaker 2: that is. That's someone who wasn't around because they've laid
- 43:21Speaker 2: off everybody who was. Yeah, that's a good point. That's
- 43:24Speaker 2: really what it is. It's not knowing the history of
- 43:26Speaker 2: the team, what he meant to the organization. and what
- 43:28Speaker 2: it meant to see them on Good Morning America, and
- 43:31Speaker 2: they're using it for a $ 28, $ 2, 000 ticket promotion. It's
- 43:35Speaker 2: not being afraid. It's, hey, let's sell this chunk of
- 43:37Speaker 2: tickets that we were going to give to a high
- 43:39Speaker 2: school team to show up and be our high school
- 43:40Speaker 2: team of the week. And put them in the upper deck.
- 43:43Speaker 2: It's not like you're getting seats down next to the railing.
- 43:47Speaker 1: And, Hun, I'm not expecting whoever the Titans hire to
- 43:50Speaker 1: call their preseason games to be as honest as we
- 43:53Speaker 1: are on our show with them, and brutally honest at
- 43:57Speaker 1: times with that. But Also, I would expect something a
- 44:00Speaker 1: little bit closer to reality from them. I just got
- 44:04Speaker 1: tired of the pom-pom waving for the team. And I
- 44:08Speaker 1: think we see this with independent media covering the Titans, too.
- 44:12Speaker 1: It's a weird time. It's a weird time to be
- 44:15Speaker 1: in Nashville and following that team. Our old co-host Paul
- 44:18Speaker 1: Koharski was long thought to be, you know, this is
- 44:22Speaker 1: the standard bearer of truth. And Titans fans hated it
- 44:25Speaker 1: at times because it shined a light on what they
- 44:27Speaker 1: knew to be true. But Paul was always the one
- 44:29Speaker 1: with the tough questions. Paul was always the one that
- 44:32Speaker 1: wrote the difficult columns or opinions about the team or
- 44:34Speaker 1: whatever it may be or ruffled feathers, right? I don't
- 44:38Speaker 1: know where that's happening as much now. And when it
- 44:42Speaker 1: does happen, you get just weird interactions all the time
- 44:48Speaker 1: with players and staffers and everything else. It's just a very,
- 44:51Speaker 1: it's an odd time.
- 44:53Speaker 2: It's tough to do what they're doing because they're given
- 44:55Speaker 2: no access. And this is becoming the league. The Titans
- 44:58Speaker 2: were really late to the game on being what the
- 45:00Speaker 2: league has become. And Paul's written about this. He's 100% right.
- 45:05Speaker 2: The only access you have to a coach or a
- 45:09Speaker 2: player is if they're standing behind a podium, more or less.
- 45:14Speaker 2: It used to, you could text a coach or a
- 45:17Speaker 2: general manager and they could go on the record with
- 45:20Speaker 2: you at 1230 a.m. And you could break a story.
- 45:24Speaker 2: And now if it's not getting out through national media,
- 45:27Speaker 2: no one has phone numbers anymore. You're not given the access.
- 45:30Speaker 2: What do we know really about Cam Ward? We're learning
- 45:33Speaker 2: stuff during quarterback, and we're a year and a half
- 45:35Speaker 2: into that, right? We don't know. I mean, can you
- 45:39Speaker 2: tell me what Cardinal Tate's voice sounds like?
- 45:43Speaker 3: No.
- 45:43Speaker 1: No.
- 45:45Speaker 2: There's no connection because everything is controlled by the team itself.
- 45:50Speaker 2: They handle all information that gets out. And when your
- 45:52Speaker 2: job is, you know, you're demanded to report on the team,
- 45:57Speaker 2: I mean, you kind of got to go by the
- 46:01Speaker 2: access you're given. And when you're leaked out stuff and
- 46:06Speaker 2: it's tough to do it whenever they're controlling it. And
- 46:08Speaker 2: the message is exactly what we've seen. Uh, it's, uh,
- 46:13Speaker 2: unicorns and roses and everything's going to get better. And
- 46:16Speaker 2: there was a soft launch of that, which I have
- 46:19Speaker 2: huge thoughts on later. There was a soft launch this
- 46:21Speaker 2: past week with the organization, I think. And, um, it's,
- 46:26Speaker 2: it's being put on the back burner for now, but
- 46:29Speaker 2: maybe unveiled by mid season. And I'm not talking about
- 46:32Speaker 2: the rivalry uniforms because they don't care about the two
- 46:35Speaker 2: tone blue anymore. They don't care about the color Navy.
- 46:37Speaker 2: That's not the soft launch. Trust me. That was the
- 46:39Speaker 2: NFL and Nike. So I can't wait to jump into
- 46:42Speaker 2: this with you.
- 46:43Speaker 1: And, Hutton, they cut the one guy who could market
- 46:45Speaker 1: himself well, Will Levis. I mean, that guy scored a helmet. No,
- 46:49Speaker 1: I don't think he marked himself well. I'm joking, of course.
- 46:53Speaker 1: I know, I know. But that's the one guy who
- 46:54Speaker 1: could go out and get a national Mayo ad before
- 46:56Speaker 1: doing anything in the league. He was out there marketing himself,
- 46:59Speaker 1: selling himself well. And I'll also say this. Cam Ward
- 47:02Speaker 1: needs to be more accountable. I don't want to hear
- 47:05Speaker 1: Cam Ward asking– Jared Stillman, a reporter, when he asked
- 47:08Speaker 1: how he would assess his preseason, well, how would you
- 47:10Speaker 1: do it? And he said, not well. Okay, well, I'm
- 47:13Speaker 1: glad you think that way. Dude, you need to think
- 47:15Speaker 1: that way. You've not been good enough. Everybody wants to
- 47:20Speaker 1: give him credit for the accountability of we ass. How
- 47:23Speaker 1: about this?
- 47:24Speaker 2: I ass.
- 47:25Speaker 1: You need to say that. I'm tired of the we, we,
- 47:30Speaker 1: we with him. You need to point right back at you, buddy. No,
- 47:35Speaker 1: this ain't a we thing. I was bad on that play.
- 47:38Speaker 1: That's my fault. My bad, guys. I haven't been good enough.
- 47:42Speaker 2: That's the difference between knowing how to market and how
- 47:44Speaker 2: not to. Hashtag we ass is different than hashtag I ass.
- 47:49Speaker 2: If you put it out there.
- 47:50Speaker 1: Brooks, clip that.
- 47:52Speaker 2: I ass.
- 47:53Speaker 1: Just run that on a loop of me saying that.
- 47:57Speaker 2: That hits a little different if you walk down a
- 48:00Speaker 2: street and you have a t-shirt that says one of
- 48:04Speaker 2: those two.
- 48:06Speaker 1: I think you understand what I'm saying. He can say
- 48:10Speaker 1: specifically I haven't been good enough. He was asked the
- 48:13Speaker 1: question and his response was to get all pissy and
- 48:16Speaker 1: throw it back to Stillman about what do you think?
- 48:21Speaker 1: I don't think he played well.
- 48:22Speaker 2: The best way to describe the two the difference between
- 48:25Speaker 2: the two is Antonio Brown would retweet you on one
- 48:27Speaker 2: of them.
- 48:29Speaker 3: True.
