[SPEAKER_00]: I will start with some positive takeaways from this, and there were plenty of positive takeaways, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: They were five of 12 on third down on offense, but two of two on fourth downs.

[SPEAKER_00]: So really, in these situations where you're trying to stay on the field offensively, you're really like seven of 12, because you know, on two of those third downs that they didn't get it, they got it on the next play.

[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of what I want to talk about here is the fact that simply against a better football team, I don't know how much of this would be real.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like I think the Panthers are one of the worst football teams in the NFL.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Jaguars are much better coached.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Jaguars are much more talented.

[SPEAKER_00]: This isn't just like a reactionary take.

[SPEAKER_00]: I thought the Jaguars would handle their business against the Carolina and Panthers, and I absolutely did.

[SPEAKER_00]: key to winning football games and it's also something that the Jaguar's coaching staff has harped on and you know from the top down, James Ladsstone, Tony Picelli, Liam Cohen, everybody has been harping on throughout the offseason and summer and preseason and so to see them do pretty good on third down and then the Jaguar has held the Panthers to O of two on fourth down a huge stop when the Panthers are trying to make it a 2010 ball game kind of try to get back

[SPEAKER_00]: on the goal line, you know, Bryce Young ends up throwing it out of the back of the end zone.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then the end of the first half drive execution to get the field goal, what was on point.

[SPEAKER_00]: And there's also some, I mean, takeaways where you could talk about things that are not surprising.

[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not like a huge takeaway, but Josh Heinz Allen dominating a backup left tackle is not surprising.

[SPEAKER_00]: I know he didn't pick up any sacks, but he was constantly getting Bryce young off of his mark, disrupting the timing of the passing offense, generating pressures at an extremely high level.

[SPEAKER_00]: But something that really, to me, was actually a big talking point from this game and important and probably the biggest thing you could have taken away, like going into the game.

[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguars did not have a very good run defense in 2024.

[SPEAKER_00]: I thought they had the pieces to have a good run defense this year.

[SPEAKER_00]: That played out yesterday, and absolutely did.

[SPEAKER_00]: The Panthers did run the ball for like 113 yards, but outside of Bryce Young, this is a running game.

[SPEAKER_00]: That really was was pretty ineffective.

[SPEAKER_00]: Bryce Young had 40 of their 113 yards.

[SPEAKER_00]: He had five carries, so you do the math here.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's 2113 minus 40, 73 yards on 20 carries for the Panthers backs, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: So the Jaguar's run defense did the job and why is that significant?

[SPEAKER_00]: I know everybody likes the high-pup recap battle.

[SPEAKER_00]: He was more of a volume guy last year with the cowboys, but Chewboh Hubbard is a good back.

[SPEAKER_00]: So to me, coming out and playing the run the way they did, which I will say, very beginning of the game.

[SPEAKER_00]: I was a little worried about the run defense, but they got it together quickly and then they kind of dominated against the Panthers rushing attack.

[SPEAKER_00]: And the Panthers rushing attack is their calling card right now.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so for you to go out there and win in that phase of the game, I thought was a big deal because that was the most important phase you could win and against a Panthers team.

[SPEAKER_00]: I wasn't worried very much about their defense.

[SPEAKER_00]: I was worried about if the Jaguars are gonna lose this game it's gonna be because they can't stop this rushing attack.

[SPEAKER_00]: And the Jaguars, their own running game, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: was outstanding 32 carries for 200 yards.

[SPEAKER_00]: But even if you take away that 71 yard run, which you shouldn't do.

[SPEAKER_00]: I mean his vision, his burst, one of the things I love about his game is how low he can get to the ground and cut and run full speed and his bend as a runner is just special.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm happy he's here in Jacksonville, still.

[SPEAKER_00]: and just looking much more confident and I think that this is a coaching staff that breeds confidence by the way they communicate by the way they coach.

[SPEAKER_00]: You have guys pulling and executing in space, and that was one of my keys to victory is space blocking, I think the Jaguar said a good job of that.

[SPEAKER_00]: Offensive line winning at the point of attack, double teams working, pullers, whether it be tackles, guards, tight ends, especially Britain's strange, doing a great job, so much motion, pre-snap and at the snap.

[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously on the ETN-71 yard run, Britain strange, sprung that and then you had deami brown down the field blocking.

[SPEAKER_00]: The BTJ touchdown run I mentioned on the end around.

[SPEAKER_00]: There was so much movement, misdirection to the other side of the field.

[SPEAKER_00]: You come back with the end around to BT and it's a well blocked.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's several guys making key blocks on that touchdown run for BT.

[SPEAKER_00]: the defense of run game and the offensive run game and those are two keys and the panthers do not have a good run defense right so you don't want to say that this run run game for the jack wars has arrived but it looked a lot better than you would have expected last year for it to look with with really not that much upgraded pieces I just think that the coaching staff is significantly better.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I do think, you know, McCary and Haynesy are more physical than the guys that were in their last year on the interior of the offensive line.

[SPEAKER_00]: They were big part of this game for the Jack Wars, the Eric Murray break on the ball that led to the FOIA interception, the FOIA punch out, the insane grabulate by Jordan Lewis sealed the whole deal, the duly pick six that wasn't, unfortunately.

[SPEAKER_00]: The Jack Wars were historically bad turnover team last year.

[SPEAKER_00]: They did a good job turning the ball over in this game.

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to go overboard with the praise because again, I think that this was a really bad offense.

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that FOIA is going to be able to get a punch out against a Bryce Young every single week, you're not playing Bryce Young every week.

[SPEAKER_00]: Um, these are not necessarily the types of plays you're going to be given every single week as a defense.

[SPEAKER_00]: But when you're playing Joe Burrow, I don't expect there to be that many opportunities.

[SPEAKER_00]: So you're going to have to continue to be opportunistic when the opportunities present themselves.

[SPEAKER_00]: I want to see them do it against a better offense to really feel like this could be one of those jag wars units that defensively is a problem every single week for the opposing team because of their ability to force turnovers.

[SPEAKER_00]: And we have seen teams like that in the past here in Jacksonville, I just don't want to go all in on that based on playing one of the worst offenses in football.

[SPEAKER_00]: The past rush, but overall, I think that they did the job to disrupt the timing to disrupt the flow and make it very uncomfortable for Bryce Young back there.

[SPEAKER_00]: Still need to find out more about Mason Smith not playing, but I liked Austin Johnson and Colin Saunders as run defenders and I think that that played out, you know, Hunter long, scoring a touchdown.

[SPEAKER_00]: Diamy Brown, as your third receiver, playing well outside of the one drop he had.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think that you just have a lot more depth and better role players here than you did and guys that fit what the team is asking them to do.

[SPEAKER_00]: Again, don't want to go overboard on this because it was one of the worst teams in the football, but you feel like, again, the jacks talked about it from the top down, the raising of the floor.

[SPEAKER_00]: Now, BT did have a drop on a screen early, and you probably say he should have made the play later in the game on the sideline.

[SPEAKER_00]: instead of it getting tangled up with the defender and gets the first down there.

[SPEAKER_00]: But I think it is cool that even on a day like this where the Jack Wars did struggle to get Brian Thomas Jr.

[SPEAKER_00]: So even though it wasn't a great day between the quarterback and the top-wide receiver, I do think there's things to build on confidence-wise for Brian Thomas Jr.
