- 0:06Speaker 1: Here is Let's welcome our senior senior insider, Ken Rosenthal.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Let's get right into your latest colum about zach Neetto.
- 0:13Speaker 1: What do you have on him from the Red Sox,
- 0:15Speaker 1: KENNI is he gonna actually get traded?
- 0:18Speaker 2: First of all, Aj, this little fella is happy to
- 0:21Speaker 2: be joining you. And as for zach Netto, I don't
- 0:24Speaker 2: know if he's getting traded. The story that I wrote
- 0:26Speaker 2: with Bill Salmon yesterday was about how the Red Sox
- 0:29Speaker 2: had interested in him last offseason, which I was unaware of,
- 0:33Speaker 2: and they have renewed interest in him right now at
- 0:36Speaker 2: the trade deadline. It's really interesting. They've put together this
- 0:40Speaker 2: incredible run twenty and three fifteen straight at one point
- 0:44Speaker 2: with basically a patchwork middle infield. They've got two guys
- 0:48Speaker 2: playing second base, they've got two guys playing shortstop, and
- 0:51Speaker 2: it's working for them. These are basically utility players, and
- 0:54Speaker 2: yet it's been pretty good.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Now.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Trevor story's coming back. At some point, he's going to
- 1:00Speaker 2: get in a rehab assignment and then at that point
- 1:03Speaker 2: we'll see where they are. But middle infield is a
- 1:06Speaker 2: focus for them. Zach Netto is out there. He's a
- 1:09Speaker 2: guy they're interested in.
- 1:11Speaker 4: We've had these conversations earlier in the program. Talk to
- 1:14Speaker 4: us a little about the Angels. They're in a weird
- 1:17Speaker 4: little predicament here, could be good, could be get bad.
- 1:21Speaker 3: New management.
- 1:22Speaker 4: Talk to me about what you think they are going
- 1:24Speaker 4: to do with all these guys that you know are
- 1:27Speaker 4: pretty much pieces right now.
- 1:28Speaker 3: You know they're not making the playoffs.
- 1:30Speaker 4: Do you think they're gonna start selling or do you
- 1:32Speaker 4: think it's going to be the same old story.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Try and keep them in hope for the best.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Todd, I think I've said this on the program before,
- 1:39Speaker 2: but you're asking me to read the mind of Ardi Moreno,
- 1:43Speaker 2: and that is something that is impossible to do. Now.
- 1:46Speaker 2: What we're hearing out of that camp is that John Mizzelok,
- 1:50Speaker 2: the new interim GM, is going to have more leeway
- 1:53Speaker 2: than Perry Manazien did. Heard it all before out of
- 1:56Speaker 2: the Angels. So until I see Trariot's happen and things happen,
- 2:01Speaker 2: will withhold judgment. Now. I will say this. I did
- 2:04Speaker 2: an interview with Mizaelac right after he took over, and
- 2:08Speaker 2: he said, this team does not need to rebuild. This
- 2:11Speaker 2: team mess resources, we don't have to tear it down,
- 2:14Speaker 2: So that would indicate to me that they maybe don't
- 2:18Speaker 2: trade zach Netto and Reddebtmeer's and Jose Soriato, even though
- 2:22Speaker 2: that probably is what they should do. I just don't
- 2:26Speaker 2: know which way they're going to go, and in the end,
- 2:29Speaker 2: whether Arti Moreno will indeed let John Mozelac make the
- 2:32Speaker 2: moves that Mozella determines are necessary for this team to
- 2:36Speaker 2: be better.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Ken, that's my question. Is Arty Moreno going to step aside?
- 2:41Speaker 1: I mean, I know Perryminesian didn't really have a shot
- 2:43Speaker 1: because Artie Moreno controlled everything even before that. Arty Morino,
- 2:47Speaker 1: since he's kind of bought this team is controlled who
- 2:48Speaker 1: they've signed. They miss on this guy, Let's try and
- 2:51Speaker 1: do another crazy signing that doesn't work out, or I
- 2:53Speaker 1: don't want to do long term pitching. I don't want
- 2:56Speaker 1: to do this. I don't want to do that. John
- 2:57Speaker 1: Mozelak has some clout, right, he has some clout coming
- 3:00Speaker 1: over from Saint Louis.
- 3:02Speaker 5: Will he actually get his.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Ear and be able to say, you know what, already,
- 3:06Speaker 1: stop talking, let me do my job and then we'll
- 3:08Speaker 1: reevaluate at the end of the year.
- 3:11Speaker 2: AJ's a big unknown, and again he hired Molly Jolly
- 3:17Speaker 2: to be the club president when John Carpino left, and
- 3:20Speaker 2: Molly Jolly is the person who hired John Mizzelak. It
- 3:24Speaker 2: would appear that when you hire a guy I like
- 3:27Speaker 2: John Mizaelic, as you said, AJ, someone who has clout
- 3:30Speaker 2: history in the game, that you're hiring him so he
- 3:34Speaker 2: can do the job that he has done for a
- 3:36Speaker 2: long time. The job in Anaheim, though, is different than
- 3:40Speaker 2: it is pretty much anywhere else, or at least it
- 3:42Speaker 2: has been under an Asian, under Billy Eppler, you name it.
- 3:47Speaker 3: So I can't.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Predict with any degree of certainty or even confidence what's
- 3:53Speaker 2: going to happen there. And as we go forward these
- 3:57Speaker 2: next ten days or so, they are clearly one of
- 3:59Speaker 2: the most interesting teams because we don't know exactly what's
- 4:03Speaker 2: going to happen there.
- 4:07Speaker 6: Hey, for the families out there looking for a new

- 5:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:06Speaker 4: No, I want to jump to the white sox here
- 5:07Speaker 4: a little bit. This has been fascinating this whole year.
- 5:10Speaker 4: I know, aj M, you might have want to talk
- 5:13Speaker 4: about them a little bit, but I want to talk
- 5:15Speaker 4: to them about what they're gonna do. Catching wise, there's
- 5:19Speaker 4: a couple teams that are looking for catchers. There's opportunities
- 5:22Speaker 4: for guys out there. Do you see one do you
- 5:25Speaker 4: see this White Sox team still pushing to finally get
- 5:28Speaker 4: the chance to win their division, and you see them
- 5:30Speaker 4: buyers at the trade deadline. There's there's some there's some
- 5:33Speaker 4: opportunities for them to pick up some guys to make
- 5:35Speaker 4: this big push, which I hope they do because it's
- 5:37Speaker 4: been fun to watch.
- 5:39Speaker 2: They're definitely buyers. And the injury to Kyle Teal does
- 5:43Speaker 2: create the need for a catcher, and we reported yesterday
- 5:46Speaker 2: that they're working hard to find a catcher. But of course,
- 5:50Speaker 2: in today's game, and actually throughout the game's history, that's
- 5:53Speaker 2: a difficult position to fill. Not many guys can do it,
- 5:56Speaker 2: not many do it well. So the other problem they
- 5:59Speaker 2: have in the search for a catcher is that a
- 6:01Speaker 2: number of other teams are also in the market for one.
- 6:05Speaker 2: The Yankees for sure, the Dodgers for a backup, maybe
- 6:08Speaker 2: the Red Sox. So those are just some of the
- 6:11Speaker 2: teams that could be looking. And there are teams that
- 6:15Speaker 2: have in their organization young catching. But with the White
- 6:18Speaker 2: Sox need, and with some of these other clubs need
- 6:21Speaker 2: is major league catching, and that's going to be not
- 6:23Speaker 2: easy to find. Catching for the White Sox has been
- 6:26Speaker 2: kind of a Bugaboo. I believe their last in the
- 6:28Speaker 2: league in ops at catcher, and Teal, who missed the
- 6:32Speaker 2: early part of the season, was likely going to help
- 6:35Speaker 2: solve that. But now he's out again for quite some time.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Ken, I mean Teal. I read where til it said
- 6:43Speaker 1: it's going to be on the shorter side. It wasn't
- 6:45Speaker 1: as high as an ankle spring. It's supposed to be
- 6:47Speaker 1: six to eight instead of eight to twelve. Well, see,
- 6:50Speaker 1: you never know how that goes, because last time he
- 6:52Speaker 1: just pulled a hamstring and then he hurt his knee
- 6:54Speaker 1: and so he missed like what almost over two months.
- 6:56Speaker 1: But the thing is for me is catcher. Catcher is
- 6:59Speaker 1: such an interesting position, Hunter Goodman, Stevenson, whoever, the catchers
- 7:03Speaker 1: that are supposedly out there. A lot of teams are
- 7:06Speaker 1: afraid to make a move for a catcher in the
- 7:08Speaker 1: middle of the year because they're worried about their pitchers.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Right the Yankees don't usually make a Hunter Goodman type
- 7:13Speaker 1: splash in the middle of the season. Stevenson. Christian Vasquez
- 7:17Speaker 1: is a Minnesota I know Ryan Jeffers is a bigger name,
- 7:19Speaker 1: but Christian Vasquez is a guy that could could. I
- 7:22Speaker 1: don't think he's sorry, he's on Minnesota anymore, wherever. I
- 7:24Speaker 1: think he's in Houston. Now again he pops up, right,
- 7:26Speaker 1: he pops up again, right, as someone that could go
- 7:29Speaker 1: from A to B to help a team as a backup,
- 7:31Speaker 1: Why are teams so afraid to make that move? Again?
- 7:34Speaker 1: I made a move to the Cardinals. I thought it
- 7:36Speaker 1: went pretty seamlessly. Maybe they would tell you differently, but
- 7:39Speaker 1: I don't understand why teams are so afraid, especially with
- 7:42Speaker 1: all the analytics and they pretty much tell them what
- 7:44Speaker 1: to call on pitches every day. Anyways, Why are teams
- 7:47Speaker 1: so afraid.
- 7:47Speaker 2: To jump in a catcher, Ajay is a good question
- 7:52Speaker 2: the way you framed it, And my understanding has always
- 7:56Speaker 2: been that it's difficult for a catcher to learn a
- 7:59Speaker 2: new hitching staff in the middle of a season, and
- 8:02Speaker 2: I can understand where that might be the case. Now
- 8:04Speaker 2: you mentioned the analytics and all the information that's available
- 8:08Speaker 2: to teams to individual players today, you would think that
- 8:12Speaker 2: would ease it, and I would expect that would ease
- 8:15Speaker 2: the transition, But you're still learning a new staff and
- 8:19Speaker 2: that would give some teams pause. Now, the teams we
- 8:22Speaker 2: just mentioned, White Sox, Red Sox, Dodgers, Yankees among them.
- 8:26Speaker 2: They need cashers. So it's not like they can play
- 8:29Speaker 2: this game where well, we're a little reluctant because we're
- 8:33Speaker 2: just not sure he'll adapt to the staff. No, they
- 8:36Speaker 2: have a clear need and they're gonna have to address
- 8:38Speaker 2: that need.
- 8:40Speaker 7: Ken do the Mariners have maybe the best starting pitcher,
- 8:44Speaker 7: even though we may not know which starting pitcher could
- 8:47Speaker 7: be available on the trade deadline.
- 8:51Speaker 2: I don't know about the best Eric, but they certainly
- 8:53Speaker 2: have options to offer teams. Now, what we reported yesterday
- 8:58Speaker 2: was that with Castilla, it's a little difficult to trade him.
- 9:01Speaker 2: He's got big money next year, you've got a vexiting
- 9:03Speaker 2: option the year after that. And for that reason, the
- 9:07Speaker 2: Mariners have at least been listening on Emerson Hancock, who
- 9:11Speaker 2: has had a breakout campaign. He's been really good and
- 9:14Speaker 2: he's effectively their sixth starter. With two kids at the
- 9:18Speaker 2: double A waiting to come up, and another guy, Logan Evans,
- 9:22Speaker 2: who will be back next year from Tobby John surgery.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Unlike virtually every other team, they have depth at the
- 9:29Speaker 2: starting rotation spot. And you can say the Dodgers have depth, Yeah,
- 9:33Speaker 2: but Blake Snell and Glass now are on the al
- 9:36Speaker 2: so it's not the same kind of thing. The Mariners
- 9:39Speaker 2: are in a great spot here and they need a
- 9:41Speaker 2: right handed bat. Could Emerson Hancock bring a controllable right
- 9:45Speaker 2: handed bat. I would think that would be the case.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Yes, Ken, I know you're in New York on Saturday
- 9:52Speaker 1: for the Dodgers' Mets on Fox. You know, mister A team, it's.
- 9:56Speaker 5: Okay, the B team.
- 9:57Speaker 1: We're going to the Mariners and the Rangers. Okay, so
- 10:00Speaker 1: hopefully when you guys get about two hours of rain,
- 10:02Speaker 1: when you guys get two hours of rain in New York,
- 10:05Speaker 1: we'll have the Dome in Texas on Fox one here
- 10:08Speaker 1: where you can just it'll just naturally shift you over
- 10:11Speaker 1: on the app. But it's a big series for both teams.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Both teams are trying to get over the over the hump, right,
- 10:16Speaker 1: They're all kind of stuck hovering around five hundred. It's
- 10:19Speaker 1: a huge four game series that are starting her well,
- 10:23Speaker 1: the Rangers make a move. Is there a move for
- 10:25Speaker 1: the Rangers to make? I know we just hit on
- 10:27Speaker 1: the Mariners, but is there a move for the Rangers
- 10:29Speaker 1: to make besides getting Corey Seeger back healthy that can
- 10:32Speaker 1: help them surprise the Mariners.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Actually aj for starters. We've been rained out the A
- 10:39Speaker 2: team three times this year, which has resulted in more airtime,
- 10:43Speaker 2: more airtime for you, So you're welcome now. As for
- 10:47Speaker 2: the Rangers, actually, what happens this weekend in that four
- 10:50Speaker 2: game series against the Mariners could be pivotal in determining
- 10:55Speaker 2: what they do. They're a team. You look at them
- 10:57Speaker 2: right there, they're five hundred and they've got fifty percent
- 11:01Speaker 2: playoff odds, so they're right on the bubble. They're right
- 11:04Speaker 2: in the middle of this thing. And the last two
- 11:06Speaker 2: years I've written about this, they kind of were playing
- 11:11Speaker 2: fairly well at the deadline. The first year, Chris Young, well,
- 11:15Speaker 2: they're coming off in a World Series title. Of course
- 11:16Speaker 2: he's not going to sell. And then the second year
- 11:19Speaker 2: they were kind of okay but not great and not terrible.
- 11:23Speaker 2: He bought again and it backfired in the sense that
- 11:28Speaker 2: they did not make the playoffs. Now are they going
- 11:30Speaker 2: to persuade him with their play and their health to
- 11:34Speaker 2: buy again, And that remains to be seen, And KNOWLSA
- 11:37Speaker 2: remains to be seen what they'd be willing to give up,
- 11:40Speaker 2: both prospect wise and whether they be willing to add financially.
- 11:44Speaker 2: So I would say that this weekend is big for
- 11:48Speaker 2: the Rangers, and even if they decide to buy, I
- 11:52Speaker 2: just don't know to what extent they would.
- 11:55Speaker 7: First two part question, do you know if ce why
- 11:58Speaker 7: has a restriction on trade deadline acquisitions in the sense
- 12:03Speaker 7: of like money wise. And the second part of that
- 12:05Speaker 7: is you said gms are not emotional or they don't
- 12:08Speaker 7: make you said the other day they don't make like
- 12:10Speaker 7: emotional moves or hot seat type of moves. But see why.
- 12:14Speaker 7: I when I played with him, he was a player,
- 12:16Speaker 7: and he said, if you're one game out, you could
- 12:20Speaker 7: have made a move that could make that one game
- 12:22Speaker 7: out be one game in. So can't we say, Okay,
- 12:26Speaker 7: maybe he is a little emotional because he was a player.
- 12:30Speaker 2: I was speaking generally Eric on that question, and I
- 12:34Speaker 2: would say, see why is something of an exception. Yes,
- 12:37Speaker 2: he does have much more of a player's mentality than
- 12:42Speaker 2: some of the other heads of baseball operations that we're
- 12:45Speaker 2: seeing now. As for his financial leeway kind of remains
- 12:49Speaker 2: to be seen. And somebody was telling me just the
- 12:51Speaker 2: other day how at deadline times sometimes an owner walks
- 12:55Speaker 2: into the room the day of the deadline and says,
- 12:57Speaker 2: what do you got. GM says, well, we could do this,
- 13:00Speaker 2: but we're gonna need this amount of money, And depending
- 13:03Speaker 2: on the owner's emotions that day, depending on how he's
- 13:06Speaker 2: feeling about the club, he might say, Okay, go ahead.
- 13:10Speaker 2: So it's kind of unclear, and no one's going to
- 13:13Speaker 2: broadcast to guys like me what their financial position might be.
- 13:18Speaker 2: But my general sense on the Rangers is that they
- 13:21Speaker 2: don't have much payroll flexibility and that their owner Ray
- 13:25Speaker 2: Davis is not necessarily inclined to take on a lot
- 13:29Speaker 2: of money at the deadline. I would not expect that
- 13:31Speaker 2: they would.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Actually, you're in New York, you get the Dodgers and
- 13:34Speaker 1: the Mets on Fox on Saturday. What are you looking
- 13:37Speaker 1: forward to? And by the way, start your free trout
- 13:39Speaker 1: today at foxwe dot com. You can see Ken every
- 13:41Speaker 1: Saturday on MLB on Fox.
- 13:44Speaker 2: I'll tell you what I'm looking forward to. AJ it's
- 13:46Speaker 2: a great matchup Nolan McClain against Yoshinobu Yamamoto. That says
- 13:51Speaker 2: it all. Those two guys are basically their team's best
- 13:55Speaker 2: and McLain is a guy who had a little bit
- 13:58Speaker 2: of a bump earlier in this season, but seems to
- 14:00Speaker 2: have found it again, and Yamamoto is obviously one of
- 14:03Speaker 2: the most consistent pitchers in baseball. So that's what I'm
- 14:06Speaker 2: looking forward to most, just seeing those two guys in action.
- 14:10Speaker 1: All right, According to Ethan, you know who Ethan is
- 14:12Speaker 1: with the Mets. He said that mcclin's gonna win Rookie
- 14:14Speaker 1: of the Year. He told me that on July fourth,
- 14:17Speaker 1: So let's see what happens, Ken, wh Yeah, I know,
- 14:20Speaker 1: big statement, big statement, Andy Green and Andy Green's office.
- 14:23Speaker 1: On July fourth, he said he's expecting Nol McClean to win.
- 14:27Speaker 1: He's gonna get hot and he's gonna finish the year
- 14:29Speaker 1: strong and win Rookie of the Year. So I don't know.
- 14:31Speaker 1: We'll find out on Saturday.
- 14:32Speaker 5: Ken.
- 14:32Speaker 1: I can't wait to hear your reports, even though I
- 14:34Speaker 1: won't be listening because I'll be too busy working.
- 14:36Speaker 5: So I can't wait to hear your reports anyways, a j.
- 14:38Speaker 2: You wouldn't be listening even if you weren't working.
- 14:40Speaker 1: That's not true, Kennon, and I take that personal because
- 14:43Speaker 1: I actually do listen to what you say sometimes.
- 14:46Speaker 5: So he doesn't read what you say. He watches.
- 14:49Speaker 2: That's where he draws the line. This reading thing is not.
- 14:55Speaker 5: All right.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Well, thank you, Ken, good luck this weekend. I hope
- 14:57Speaker 1: you stay dry. Okay, we'll all be watching.
- 15:01Speaker 2: On Fox.
- 15:02Speaker 1: MOLB on Fox is streaming on Fox one. The Race
- 15:05Speaker 1: to October starts now, and we have your front row
- 15:07Speaker 1: seats to the wildest walk offs, lights out, pitching, and
- 15:10Speaker 1: clutch play all season long, follow every campus matchup, his
- 15:13Speaker 1: team's battle for a spot in the postseason. Then stream
- 15:16Speaker 1: the twenty twenty six World Series live on Fox one
- 15:19Speaker 1: at home, RU on the go live on demand. Never
- 15:22Speaker 1: missed a moment, Stream now on Fox one.
- 15:32Speaker 7: Matt Arnold, are you GM where you're president of baseball race?
- 15:36Speaker 7: It doesn't matter, but the number three best pickleball player
- 15:41Speaker 7: of the entire coaching staff, even though you're not a coach.
- 15:44Speaker 7: So do you allow Matt because we have McGill on
- 15:49Speaker 7: and he said, one of the things you guys do
- 15:50Speaker 7: is team building exercises, which we talk all about the
- 15:54Speaker 7: Brewers culture all the time. I witnessed it an eighteen,
- 15:57Speaker 7: I've witnessed it since. And you know from afar, are
- 16:01Speaker 7: you a top five in the staff.
- 16:04Speaker 5: Pickle ball player?
- 16:05Speaker 8: I'm gonna my answer is gonna be firmly no, because
- 16:07Speaker 8: I know if they they heard me say otherwise, it
- 16:09Speaker 8: would be probably. So I'm gonna I'm gonna put myself
- 16:12Speaker 8: at the bottom and just just the underdog, just like
- 16:15Speaker 8: the Brewers every time. Sometimes you surprise people. But I'm
- 16:19Speaker 8: definitely in the in the in the underdog category.
- 16:21Speaker 5: No, no, no, no, no, no.
- 16:23Speaker 7: The Brewers are not surprising anybody. Maybe the Brewers are
- 16:25Speaker 7: surprising like the protagonists and the like people who are
- 16:30Speaker 7: picking quote unpicking. You're not surprising anybody. And again, you're
- 16:34Speaker 7: leading the league in wins. How is this something that
- 16:39Speaker 7: has been one continually swept under the rub that you
- 16:43Speaker 7: because because every year you guys are chosen not to
- 16:45Speaker 7: win and then Murph has to go to New York
- 16:47Speaker 7: to win Manager of the Year.
- 16:48Speaker 5: So how is this possible? And you're the one at
- 16:52Speaker 5: the helm of them?
- 16:53Speaker 8: I appreciate, Yeah, I mean we it starts with good
- 16:55Speaker 8: people like yourself and you know, like guys like this weekend.
- 16:57Speaker 8: I mean, I'll tell you what, like celebrate in the
- 16:59Speaker 8: alumni and the people that have been here and part
- 17:01Speaker 8: of the culture is is a huge part of why
- 17:03Speaker 8: we've we've had success, and I'm thrilled we're having the
- 17:06Speaker 8: alumni here this weekend and you know, celebrate you guys,
- 17:10Speaker 8: and obviously that the we're we're writing the coat tails
- 17:12Speaker 8: of the people that were here before us. We want
- 17:14Speaker 8: to honor those people. We actually just did a really
- 17:16Speaker 8: cool event for Doug Melvin. We named our boardroom after
- 17:19Speaker 8: Doug Melvin, which is just everything that that he's done
- 17:22Speaker 8: for this franchise. And and you know when he came
- 17:25Speaker 8: here that the organization that had I think lost one
- 17:29Speaker 8: hundred and six games that season before he got here,
- 17:31Speaker 8: and he was able to build a foundation that we
- 17:34Speaker 8: have on the field today. So yeah, huge credit to him,
- 17:36Speaker 8: and frankly all the people that are that have been
- 17:37Speaker 8: here a long time.
- 17:40Speaker 4: Hey, Matt, Todd Frazier here, how you doing, man, I'm great,
- 17:43Speaker 4: Todd good good.
- 17:44Speaker 3: So my question is gonna be short and simple.
- 17:46Speaker 8: Here.
- 17:47Speaker 4: You're walking down the hallways nowadays during this time, are
- 17:49Speaker 4: some people trying to avoid you when they see you
- 17:52Speaker 4: see anybody making quick laps or quick rights, like, oh no,
- 17:55Speaker 4: there's that guy. So talk to me about how hectic
- 17:58Speaker 4: it is during this time and anybody trying to avoid
- 18:02Speaker 4: you as you're moving through these hallways.
- 18:04Speaker 8: I think at Cratzy will tell you everyone's trying to
- 18:06Speaker 8: avoid me for a while, so I'm kind of used
- 18:08Speaker 8: to that. But you know, it's it's no, it's uh.
- 18:12Speaker 8: We got to create crew Man and I love being
- 18:14Speaker 8: around it. And I think, you know, one of the
- 18:16Speaker 8: big things we have here is just that, you know,
- 18:18Speaker 8: the the all hands on deck mentality that the people
- 18:21Speaker 8: are in it not just for themselves but for the team,
- 18:24Speaker 8: you know, And it's a real thing, Honestly, Murph talks
- 18:26Speaker 8: about it all the time. With the culture and putting
- 18:28Speaker 8: the team first and having team at bats, team offense,
- 18:31Speaker 8: like those are real things that we talk about here
- 18:33Speaker 8: a lot. And so I love being around the guys
- 18:35Speaker 8: and just being a small part of it is a
- 18:38Speaker 8: ton of fun for me.
- 18:39Speaker 5: How do you.
- 18:39Speaker 7: Approach that at the trade deadline? Because you guys have
- 18:42Speaker 7: a special culture, how do you do enough due diligence.
- 18:46Speaker 7: Everybody can be like, oh, well, this guy he has
- 18:48Speaker 7: these numbers, this guy has those nut that's not what
- 18:51Speaker 7: you're saying. You're not saying we need three MVP candidates
- 18:55Speaker 7: come in and fill.
- 18:57Speaker 5: X, Y and Z. How do you do that? Due
- 18:59Speaker 5: dili is to be able to get the right people
- 19:01Speaker 5: into your culture.
- 19:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:02Speaker 8: We we have a lot of scouts that do a
- 19:04Speaker 8: lot of work on the road, and our coaches know people.
- 19:06Speaker 8: They have a network of guys that they have either
- 19:09Speaker 8: been around or coached, or have a teammate that has
- 19:12Speaker 8: been a part of you know, somebody else's life. And
- 19:15Speaker 8: so anyway, but any way that we can try to
- 19:16Speaker 8: gain that type of information, not just on the talent,
- 19:19Speaker 8: but on the person is super important anytime we're thinking
- 19:22Speaker 8: about adding somebody to the to the room.
- 19:24Speaker 5: And does this.
- 19:27Speaker 7: Run that you guys have been on in the sense that, yes,
- 19:29Speaker 7: you were leading the division. Yes, you know the central
- 19:32Speaker 7: has been up and down here and there, but now
- 19:34Speaker 7: you're leading, you're leading the league and wins you're looking
- 19:38Speaker 7: for that buy Does it make you approach the trade
- 19:40Speaker 7: deadline differently other than yes, you always want your team
- 19:44Speaker 7: to get better, but you guys are also always looking
- 19:47Speaker 7: for the future.
- 19:49Speaker 8: Yeah, I think you're I think that's a good way
- 19:51Speaker 8: to put it. We have to have one eye on
- 19:52Speaker 8: the present, one eye in the future at all times,
- 19:54Speaker 8: you know, and so certainly with where we are in
- 19:57Speaker 8: the standings, I'd love to do what we can to
- 19:59Speaker 8: help the team, and we just have to think about
- 20:01Speaker 8: those things responsibly. And you know, we work really hard.
- 20:04Speaker 8: Our scouts, our coaches put a ton of work in
- 20:07Speaker 8: there and dedicate their lives frankly to developing the players
- 20:10Speaker 8: and that you have on the field. And I will
- 20:12Speaker 8: say that we've had many chances to trade the guys
- 20:15Speaker 8: we have on the field. Now that are you know,
- 20:16Speaker 8: one of the best teams in you know, in baseball
- 20:19Speaker 8: and at the moment, and you know we've we've stayed
- 20:21Speaker 8: disciplined and and you know, I think that's that's something
- 20:24Speaker 8: that's really important. But at the same time, you know,
- 20:26Speaker 8: we you don't get these chances all the time, and
- 20:29Speaker 8: so I would love to do what we can to
- 20:31Speaker 8: help the team responsibility.
- 20:33Speaker 6: Todd Father, are you hitting some games this summer?
- 20:34Speaker 3: What's the deal?

- 21:33Speaker 7: I don't think this is tampering to talk about something
- 21:35Speaker 7: that happen in twenty eighteen.
- 21:37Speaker 5: Oh boy, is it? I don't think.
- 21:39Speaker 7: Okay, Because I was standing at we're here at the
- 21:41Speaker 7: stadium now. We're here at the stadium now, and a
- 21:44Speaker 7: few of few people approached me from the front office
- 21:48Speaker 7: and pitching coaches and bullpen coaches and asked me would
- 21:53Speaker 7: I trade Corbyn Burns and Brandon Woodriff for Jacob de
- 21:58Speaker 7: grom wo tampering, can I I don't.
- 22:02Speaker 8: I mean, we've had, buddy, there's so many conversations.
- 22:05Speaker 7: Discussions happen, Those discussions happen. How fearful You know what
- 22:09Speaker 7: Brent big Wu's done, You know what Corbyn byrns has done.
- 22:13Speaker 7: How are you saying, oh, man, we don't want to
- 22:17Speaker 7: do this, but man, we would love to bring a
- 22:20Speaker 7: world series, not a playoff. Sure, you guys have built
- 22:23Speaker 7: something that is playoff. Wait, nothing's guaranteed in the game
- 22:27Speaker 7: playoff guaranteed you won a world series for this city
- 22:31Speaker 7: that's gonna come and show out for the Legends game
- 22:33Speaker 7: and have forty thousand people here on a Friday night.
- 22:36Speaker 5: How do you.
- 22:38Speaker 8: Make a little bit of a different change this year
- 22:41Speaker 8: to make this the world series too? I think, look,
- 22:43Speaker 8: we understand where we are and in fact, like honoring people.
- 22:46Speaker 8: We did the Bobyucher documentary. We all went as a
- 22:49Speaker 8: team the other the other night and that was awesome,
- 22:51Speaker 8: you know, and just honoring and doing the things that
- 22:53Speaker 8: you're talking about. For the for the state of Wisconsin
- 22:56Speaker 8: would mean the world and the Uker family and everything
- 22:59Speaker 8: like that. So I recognize the gravity of that. And
- 23:01Speaker 8: what that means to the people here. And I take
- 23:04Speaker 8: that very seriously, and like you said, I certainly want
- 23:07Speaker 8: to do everything I can to help. And again it's
- 23:09Speaker 8: just you know, you have the opportunity to help the team,
- 23:12Speaker 8: and you just got to think about what that looks
- 23:13Speaker 8: like tomorrow as well.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Matt, how do you know when to go all in?
- 23:18Speaker 1: Twenty eighteen you mentioned it CC Sabathia, right was traded
- 23:21Speaker 1: over there or two thousand and eight, sorry, two thousand
- 23:23Speaker 1: and eight CCS Mathia. The Brewers went all in ron
- 23:26Speaker 1: Sabathia and they thought they had a chance. This year again,
- 23:30Speaker 1: you guys are right there, you're winning your division, you're
- 23:32Speaker 1: right there for the best record, you have a chance.
- 23:35Speaker 1: How do you make that decision to say, you know what,
- 23:37Speaker 1: we're going to go all in and go for all
- 23:40Speaker 1: the pieces that we think can help us not only
- 23:42Speaker 1: get to the postseason, but get to the World Series
- 23:45Speaker 1: and possibly win the World Series.
- 23:47Speaker 8: Yeah, it's a good question, Ada. Honestly, I think it's
- 23:50Speaker 8: it has to do with the type of person I think.
- 23:52Speaker 8: Just talking to Doug I think would be a great
- 23:54Speaker 8: one for the Doug Melboyne would be the right person
- 23:56Speaker 8: to talk to about the c C. Sabathia trade and
- 23:58Speaker 8: what went into that. And you know, I've been a
- 24:01Speaker 8: part of a handful of those big trades as well
- 24:03Speaker 8: in my career. And look, it's it's it's a big deal,
- 24:06Speaker 8: and it's something I think would be great for the
- 24:08Speaker 8: city if we can, if we're able to pull it off.
- 24:10Speaker 8: And sometimes again it takes two to tangle on these things,
- 24:12Speaker 8: and sometimes you just don't line up. You know, you
- 24:14Speaker 8: can work your tail off to try to access something
- 24:16Speaker 8: and somebody just wants to do a different deal the
- 24:18Speaker 8: other team does, or they just see it a different way,
- 24:20Speaker 8: and you know, we'll just try to do what we can.
- 24:22Speaker 8: But I certainly am of the mind where we want
- 24:24Speaker 8: to do what we can to help here.
- 24:25Speaker 7: You're taking fifteen minutes on a busy legends weekend in
- 24:30Speaker 7: the trade deadline for our show. We appreciate that. It
- 24:33Speaker 7: shows what kind of person you are. How many miscalls
- 24:36Speaker 7: and texts are you going to have during this because
- 24:40Speaker 7: you took this time, you can feel the most Yeah
- 24:43Speaker 7: right now, but I actually do. Yeah, that's all right,
- 24:45Speaker 7: that's all right. So how I mean, how active is it?
- 24:49Speaker 7: We don't know, Like we love given as a player's
- 24:51Speaker 7: point of view. That's why we love, you know, being
- 24:53Speaker 7: able to give a player's point of view for the show.
- 24:56Speaker 7: What is your day right now looking like? And how
- 24:58Speaker 7: much does that change two three days out from the trade?
- 25:02Speaker 8: Denner, Yeah, it's it's certainly. I think people are playing
- 25:04Speaker 8: a lot of seeds. I think at the moment right now,
- 25:06Speaker 8: as teams are still reading where they're at in the standings.
- 25:08Speaker 8: You know, I don't think anybody's totally all in on
- 25:11Speaker 8: where they're going. Yeah, they're maybe a handful of teams,
- 25:13Speaker 8: but for the for the most part, I think a
- 25:15Speaker 8: lot of teams will try to drag this down to
- 25:17Speaker 8: seventy two to forty eight hours before the deadline, and
- 25:20Speaker 8: so you know, we'll see what happens. But I think
- 25:23Speaker 8: at least sort of doing that work early because I think,
- 25:25Speaker 8: you know, when you have those reps in conversations with
- 25:28Speaker 8: other teams, you have a better sense of like, if
- 25:30Speaker 8: this happens, if we decide to sell or buy, like
- 25:33Speaker 8: you just have a better sense of what the other
- 25:35Speaker 8: team is trying to do and hopefully you can line
- 25:36Speaker 8: up sooner than later.
- 25:37Speaker 7: Brian Cashman said, I think last week he said, I
- 25:41Speaker 7: think some of these records are giving people false hope
- 25:44Speaker 7: or false whatever. Do you get different conversations from National
- 25:50Speaker 7: League teams and American League teams?
- 25:52Speaker 5: American League?
- 25:52Speaker 7: I mean Boston, they went on an incredible run, but
- 25:55Speaker 7: they were completely out and now they're back in the mix. Like,
- 25:58Speaker 7: do you get different calls from the different leagues that
- 26:01Speaker 7: are conversating differently?
- 26:03Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 26:04Speaker 8: Absolutely, I think there there are. I've talked to a
- 26:07Speaker 8: handful of American League teams that have have mentioned like,
- 26:09Speaker 8: we're not that good. They're saying, like, but but we
- 26:13Speaker 8: still have a shot, you know. And so I think
- 26:14Speaker 8: that that's a real thing for for for several teams,
- 26:17Speaker 8: and they just have to decide whether it's, you know,
- 26:19Speaker 8: whether they're gonna buy or sell or hedge or however
- 26:21Speaker 8: that looks for them. But yeah, I do get a
- 26:23Speaker 8: little bit of a different tone from the different leagues
- 26:26Speaker 8: at the moment.
- 26:27Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 26:27Speaker 7: And is there any numbers that you say, I do
- 26:30Speaker 7: not want to talk to this person again because the
- 26:32Speaker 7: stuffs that're not not because you don't respect them or
- 26:34Speaker 7: anything like that, but the stuff that they're putting out there,
- 26:36Speaker 7: You're like, this doesn't even.
- 26:37Speaker 5: Why why are you calling me? No? No, a spam caller.
- 26:44Speaker 8: They probably think that about me, to be honest with you,
- 26:46Speaker 8: but no, I I you try to have great relationships
- 26:49Speaker 8: with the guys around the league, and I'm I'm yeah,
- 26:51Speaker 8: you're up front.
- 26:52Speaker 5: Just the annoying you.
- 26:53Speaker 7: Call like agent if you get a call from AJ
- 26:55Speaker 7: says unknown call, Oh hey, hey, I thought you you
- 27:01Speaker 7: wanted to move on this guy.
- 27:02Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I can definitely be that guy.
- 27:06Speaker 5: You know that. But you know, it's it's it's great.
- 27:09Speaker 8: You know, I have good relationships with the guys around
- 27:11Speaker 8: the league, and our staff honesty is making calls too.
- 27:14Speaker 8: So just we're trying to get as much information as
- 27:16Speaker 8: we can to be ricky.
- 27:18Speaker 1: Matt, will you scout the Legends game today, the Alumni game?
- 27:22Speaker 1: Will you scout it? And if there's someone that you
- 27:24Speaker 1: think to do something, will you sign them to a
- 27:27Speaker 1: minor league deal?
- 27:28Speaker 5: Possibly open to it? You know he's only doing big
- 27:31Speaker 5: league deal.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Okay, I mean there's a lot of catchers. Teams need catchers, Matt.
- 27:36Speaker 1: You could trade you know, you can trade William Cantreras
- 27:39Speaker 1: and insert craps.
- 27:40Speaker 7: The reason teams need catchers is because they're all hitting
- 27:43Speaker 7: what I hit When I played, So that's fine. They
- 27:47Speaker 7: they got me, They traded for me because they thought
- 27:50Speaker 7: I was this elite receiver. And then I taught Manny
- 27:53Speaker 7: Penia how to receive and many pee led the league
- 27:57Speaker 7: the last month. And then they said, you know what
- 28:00Speaker 7: we gonna do. There's something that we've never done and
- 28:03Speaker 7: haven't done since, and go spend millions of dollars on
- 28:06Speaker 7: a catcher and they fired me. So no, he's not
- 28:09Speaker 7: scouting the game. He's gonna I just want I want
- 28:12Speaker 7: to know if I win the MVP of the Legends game,
- 28:16Speaker 7: do I get a do I get a job as
- 28:18Speaker 7: the special assistant to the whatever your actual title is? Sure?
- 28:23Speaker 8: Yeah, well well I'm happy to talk about that.
- 28:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:25Speaker 8: We senior it probably like a junior, not a maybe
- 28:29Speaker 8: not a senior assistant, but like a junior assistant for sure.
- 28:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:32Speaker 5: Absolutely, Wow, you're gonna win that. He did it.
- 28:36Speaker 8: By the way, I will say, like this guy doesn't
- 28:37Speaker 8: give himself enough credit. Like we're playing the Rockies to day.
- 28:40Speaker 8: This guy had some huge, huge hits in the playoffs
- 28:42Speaker 8: courts against the against the Rockies. Man, appreciate you.
- 28:45Speaker 5: That was awesome. I was there.
- 28:47Speaker 1: Matt buzzlow I was there for that series. You could
- 28:49Speaker 1: have had a blind guy playing eighty year positions. You
- 28:52Speaker 1: would have beat the Rockies that year. They were that bad.
- 28:54Speaker 1: I promise you I did that series.
- 28:56Speaker 5: They were awful. They were not good that year. I'm
- 28:59Speaker 5: sure they just scored one run. That's all good. It
- 29:03Speaker 5: is to bring their.
- 29:07Speaker 3: Thank you, Matt.
- 29:09Speaker 5: Thank you to Vasalo.
- 29:10Speaker 1: Is nice to him to take a break from Game Changer,
- 29:12Speaker 1: to to let you walk up there with him. So
- 29:14Speaker 1: thank you, and to quit texting me. We really appreciate it.
- 29:17Speaker 1: We'll be watching you at the trade deadline and we
- 29:19Speaker 1: will probably not critique you very hard.
- 29:21Speaker 7: So thank you.
- 29:22Speaker 1: We hope everything goes everything goes well.
