- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Look for the bare necessities, the simple bare necessities.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: Forget about your worries and your strides.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: I snapped last night.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: I mean bare necessities.
- 0:14SPEAKER_01: I feel like I can picture this.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: About nine thirty last night.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: I'd had I got, I think, six of the puppies were all cuddled right around me.
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: Aww.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: I was just finishing watching the end of the movie Fury on Pluto TV.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: That's a Brad Pitt World War II movie.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: It was, it's not the greatest movie.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: No?
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: No.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: I like Brad Pitt actually.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: So uh well, so do I, but this movie was just okay.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: 2014.
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: So I was never even heard of it.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: The last couple minutes, and all of a sudden I hear it outside, and I'm like, nope.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Cover comes off, and I'm I'm I'm at this point now.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: You just nope.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: Nope.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: No, that's where it was.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: Because now you gotta remember, we've had a massive bear problem in West Elmira.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: We have one hit by a car.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Not long enough.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's right, that's right, that's right.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: We talked about this on the show.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: So, you know, this has been a big thing, and it depends on where the bear's track is, on whose garbage gets rooted through.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Sometimes it's further down on Glen and Larchmont, sometimes it's right up on my street.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: It's like, oh my God.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: So last night it was the uh it was obviously we were the direct path, right?
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: And it was fairly early.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: I'm like, I could see like two in the morning.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: No, it's like 9:30 at night.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: People were still up around the neighborhood, you know, sort of.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: You can see lights on here and there.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: So anyway, I'm like, nope.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: So I get up.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: Of course, all the dogs follow me.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Ginger, whom you have to lift off the and put on the bed all the time.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Oh, jinger too.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Except for the fact when a bear is there, she launches off the thing like a torpedo.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: So she's milking it, right?
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: You're right, right, right.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: So here I am searching all over for my sweatpants and my hoodie, because I'm like, I'm I'm going on the deck and I'm gonna yell at the bear.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: So I go on the deck, dogs are losing their mind, everybody else sound asleep in the house.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: And uh I right?
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: And I'm out there, I'm like, hey! You know, that's the response.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: This is good.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: So bear's not doing anything, garbage can't over.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: So, you know, tipped over.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: He's already going through it.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: So I'm like, all right, we're not.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: He looks back and flips you off.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, right.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Pretty much.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: Honest to God.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: No, that's coming.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: So I go downstairs.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: I grab the headlamp.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: You know those super bright headlamps.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: I grab one and I can see that something's going on.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: So I get in my car.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: What?
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: Hold on.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: I get in my car.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: I back out of my driveway and I go to pull forward.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: If I didn't hit the brakes, I would have pegged that deer dead right in front of my garbage can.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: You mean bear?
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: Not garbage.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry, bear.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: So I'm standing there.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: Bear looks at me like, ugh, those are some bright lights.
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: That's so bold because we always talk about stories where bears will like shake cars and stuff like that.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: Well, I had it with this.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: This is, I mean, any neighbor, anybody in the neighborhood knows.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: My neighbor's garbage, all of them, no, I should say the ones further up the hill from me, are all dumped out.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: How it didn't hit Kelly and Jason's or my next door neighbors, I have no idea.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: So anyway, I'm watching the bear run over to their yard across the street.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: So I pick up the garbage can and I put it back, put the one baggie and pulled out back in.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: And then uh I pull the car back in.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: A couple minutes later.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: After I had all the dogs, I'm like, you are a persistent bear.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: So back downstairs I go, I start the car, back it up, pull right up forward, bear takes off again.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: I'm like, certainly two times of me chasing off the bear in my car has done it, right?
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: So what do I do?
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: Pick up another bag.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: Now, back upstairs we go.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: All the dogs and I are settled in bed and again, and I'm like, okay.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: Like, no way! So at this point, back down to the car for the third time.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: How does Tiffany not wake up?
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: I don't have a clue.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: I I don't know how anybody else.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: Dogs losing their mind on the deck.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: I'm down back in my car again.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: Wait, and Gavin and Lydia are still sleeping.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: Still sound asleep.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: I'm back down in my car again.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: This time the bear takes off.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: This time Kelly from across the street standing outside watching this because the bear's not gonna go after her.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: It's going looking for the empty can of fluff in the garbage, right?
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: I wish she would have recorded this.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: There was no way to.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: So I'm looking at it.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: I I look over at Kelly, who's, you know, obviously all in her nighttime sweats, ready to go to bed.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: And I go, persistent, son of a you know what in.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: And she goes, Oh, he doesn't care about you at all.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: No.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: Finally, the third time around, I go, that's it.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: Because one of my bags got dragged across to their yard.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: So I'm like, garbage cans coming back in the house.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: So I did that last night, which I'm not gonna lie, made me a little nervous.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: Like I didn't know if I was gonna be charged by the bear.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: Oh, and they were gonna uh what open up your door and then walk right in?
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: No, no.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: When I was dragging the uh the garbage cans back to put them in the garage, I'm like, is this thing gonna chase me up the driveway?
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: Because my car's down at the end of the driveway, totally blocking the road, lighting up where the bear is.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: This bear just did not care.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: Wait, wait, wait, like that.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: Yes, I learned that okay, so there's like a couple different styles of bears, right?
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: So the bears that live here, this is according to, you know, Nature Boys act, that if you see a bear that you're supposed to be really loud, kind of what you're doing in a way.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: Do you know me?
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: And then you're supposed to like, you know, make a lot of noise.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: Right, make a lot of noise.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: You'd fit right in with my church.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: So so you you're you're supposed to like, you know, puff up your chest, make a lot of noise, which sounds kind of like what you did in some.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: Blowing the horn and opening my door and putting the high beans on this thing, you would think, you know.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: Now, one of those mountain bears, you're supposed to play dead.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: Oh, no.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: I said, I've seen Revenant.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: This is a well-domesticated black bear.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: Quite honestly, I'm surprised it hasn't come to the window and just been like, get a banana.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: I'm surprised it hasn't come and like shoot shoot some hoops in your driveway.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: So my question is this.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: What?
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: And this is a serious question.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: Uh is it illegal for me, and maybe in West Elmyra, is it illegal and for because Tiffany this morning I was telling her about it.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: She goes, That's it, I'm getting a paint gun.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: I said, No, better yet, I said, Roman candles.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: Is it illegal for you know the long stick?
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: Oh, the fireworks?
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you'd always put it in a in like a Coke bottle or a beer bottle, and it's pop.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: So I got rid of crows one time in painted post when I lived there by shooting those into the tree.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: That's a good idea.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: They went a couple neighbors over.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: Uh so I'm wondering, can I shoot a couple Roman candles at a bear just to spook them?
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm not trying to really hurt them.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: He's more interested probably in hurting me.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: Ken, is it illegal?
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: And and I need some answers because I can go across, I can hell actually, I can go to Sam's Club.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: I think they sell huge packages of them.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: I got two for one.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: I can get my Roman candles for the bear and a couple of uh cannons for Fourth of July.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: I didn't realize that they sold fireworks.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: I was thinking like Sky King or something.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, right up by fire.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: You can't bring your propane tank into Sam's, but Jesus H Christ, you can have fireworks uh stacked to the ceiling.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: We can blow it up.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: So you're right, that's like the stupidest thing I've ever heard.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: I swear.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: So the second you bring a propane tank even to the door, they're like, get up!
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: You know.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: I'm like, you have 875,000 fireworks stacked by the pharmacy.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: Can I can I launch uh can I launch uh maybe this isn't the best example in the world, but I want to get rid of the bears.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: Can I launch Roman candles?
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: You know, it sounds like a great idea to me.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: Can I do that?
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: Just to spook them off.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: That was a really good impression, by the way.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: Anybody answer that.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: Also, is this on your camera?
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: Somebody wanted to know.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: Would love to see this.
- 7:23SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: I'll check on it.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: Me pulling in and out of a driveway three times, looking crazed.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: But that's what I want to share with all of you.
