- 0:00get laced up let's go it's time for banter with
- 0:04the boys what it is old bristles um this is gridiron
- 0:18updates tent talk right here on banter with the
- 0:22boys we got Smeltzy Roberto, Justin, and Jake
- 0:25here, as well as Kev behind the camera getting
- 0:28everything done, as always. Anyway, let's start
- 0:34with our injuries right out of the gate. Bo Nix,
- 0:37his ankle is broke. He's done for the season.
- 0:39Are you sure that's real? Yeah. Yep. Sorry, Broncos
- 0:43fan. It is real. Sucks. It doesn't get any better
- 0:48for the Broncos as receivers. Pat Bryant has
- 0:50a concussion, and Troy Franklin is suffering
- 0:53a little bit from a hamstring. So it just shuffles
- 0:57the receiver rotation around a little bit. Is
- 0:59that like Bryant's second or third concussion
- 1:01this year? It's definitely at least a second.
- 1:05Injury prone? Not idea. You know who else is
- 1:07injury prone? J .K. Dobbins, and he could be
- 1:09returning for Denver this weekend. That's exciting
- 1:11news. So you may lose Bo Nix, but you could get
- 1:14J .K. Dobbins back. Yes, you'd probably rather
- 1:16have Bo Nix, but just another option for Stidham.
- 1:19You know, another little bolt of confidence that
- 1:22you could probably hand it off to that guy, or
- 1:23at least get it in his hands. He's a playmaker.
- 1:27Zach Charbonnet, we did mention in our previous
- 1:29episode, but he has torn his ACL and is done
- 1:32for this playoff push. And probably, you would
- 1:36think, maybe the start of next season, potentially,
- 1:38but TBD. Yeah, initial reports were... that it
- 1:43would be the entirety of 2026. I was like, that
- 1:46seems like a bit much with how quickly players
- 1:50have been coming back from those. October, November.
- 1:53Yeah, probably see him in the second half of
- 1:57the season. Yeah, I don't think the whole season,
- 1:59but it would be wild. I wonder if Seattle will
- 2:02pick up a different running back than to sit
- 2:05behind Walker all year. Interesting. or if they
- 2:09just roll with who they have already. Carlton
- 2:12Davis also has a head injury currently. That's
- 2:15a whole TBD situation. So curious to see if he's
- 2:19able to return for this weekend or not. Those
- 2:22were the big injury news, bigger injury news
- 2:26that I've seen. Did you guys see anything else
- 2:28that I've missed? For this weekend? No. No. Okay.
- 2:34Plenty of news, especially in the coaching department.
- 2:38Literally, I don't know if it was hours after
- 2:40we dropped our episode last week or the day after,
- 2:43whatever, Harbaugh signed with the Giants. Yep.
- 2:46How do we feel about that? I mean, it's a good,
- 2:48decent situation, right? Everybody throws Scadaboo
- 2:51in there and like, yeah, he's all right, but
- 2:53like just... pump the brakes a little bit. He's
- 2:56the savior of the world for them. He's exciting.
- 3:00I think that's what it is. High energy guy. He
- 3:04is, 100%. Let's calm the F down. Harbaugh, I'm
- 3:10excited because the Giants, big brand, like he
- 3:14said, all this. A little disappointed now seeing
- 3:17what happened with the Bills and having an opportunity
- 3:19to coach Josh Allen and that squad. I've wondered
- 3:23about that, about the other coaches we'll mention
- 3:25here in a minute, too, because it is curious
- 3:28as to now that the Bills' job is over. It's like,
- 3:30damn. That instantly is the best job available,
- 3:34right, above the Ravens and the Steelers? Yeah.
- 3:37I was just thinking, like, head coaches are going
- 3:40to have, like, regretting their decisions right
- 3:42now. It's like, oh, man. Signing so early. Yeah,
- 3:43if I waited another week. What about ownership
- 3:45regretting their decision? They fired the wrong
- 3:48guy in Buffalo. Especially when your coach, the
- 3:51guy you fired, is the first guy signed at the
- 3:53lesson a week. Did you see? I mean, that's got
- 3:57to hurt a little, right? No. It just ran its
- 4:02course. Yeah, and that's what Bashadi said. He's
- 4:06like, yeah, it ran its course. Who were you going
- 4:09to say there, Coach? Well, it's about McDermott.
- 4:12We'll get to it. Another coach, Stefanski, signs
- 4:16with Atlanta. That was an early interesting signing
- 4:21to me, too. It's a great signing for them, I
- 4:23think. I don't hate the mix. I don't hate the
- 4:26pairing, but it just... The word on the street
- 4:29is because Stefanski and Matt Ryan are buddy
- 4:31-buddies, so it was just a quick, easy, you know
- 4:33what I mean? But I don't know. I mean, that's
- 4:35how the world spins a lot of times. Yeah, it's
- 4:37not what you know, it's who you know. The best
- 4:39thing about the situation is Baker Mayfield coming
- 4:41out and saying he can't wait to see Stefanski
- 4:43twice a year. You think they actually have bad
- 4:49blood? Oh, yeah. I feel like he has bad blood
- 4:51with everyone part of a few of these organizations.
- 4:55Yeah, he has bad blood with the entire Browns
- 4:59organization. Yeah, them and the Panthers. And
- 5:01the Jets through some of these other connections.
- 5:06I think it's just a few of these burnt bridges.
- 5:09Yeah, burnt bridges. And he holds grudges, which
- 5:12I love. I like it. shoulder i think stefanski
- 5:15should feel good about this like actually having
- 5:17pretty like you have a quarterback now Or two.
- 5:22And weapons. I mean, you kind of have to figure
- 5:25that out. You've got a quarterback controversy,
- 5:26but at least you have competent quarterbacks
- 5:28versus I have no idea what I've got at this point.
- 5:31It was a mess over there. True, true. It's definitely
- 5:33a better situation in Cleveland, I'd say. But
- 5:36he is also probably kicking himself where it's
- 5:38like, well, could be interviewing for the Bills
- 5:42job and coaching Josh Allen. I think that's the
- 5:45big white whale right now that everybody wants.
- 5:47Big white whale. I'm interested in it. Yeah,
- 5:50Josh Allen is a nice piece. but what's the rest
- 5:52of the team in the salary cap look like? And
- 5:54they're old, so there's a bunch of retooling.
- 5:57And that's the thing I wanted to bring up about
- 5:59McDermott. I guess him and the GM and the owner
- 6:02had a meeting recently, and McDermott allegedly
- 6:05voiced his opinion saying... that there just
- 6:09wasn't enough talent on the team surrounding
- 6:11Josh Allen and they did not agree with him. So
- 6:14I don't know if that has now stumbled into this
- 6:17situation where they're just like, if he doesn't
- 6:19win a Super Bowl no matter what, he's gone type
- 6:21of deal. Or I don't know when that conversation
- 6:24happened. You know, very limited source on that.
- 6:27Sources. It's so difficult to see Josh Allen
- 6:30not being with the Bills, but you're going to
- 6:32start to get in that territory if they don't
- 6:34figure some things out here. Next couple years,
- 6:37I don't know where he's at on his contract. I
- 6:38mean, if there's more Lamar Jackson rumors right
- 6:42now than I've heard in recent years, then eventually
- 6:45that's going to be Josh Allen, too, to your point,
- 6:48100%. And we'll touch on the Lamar Jackson rumors
- 6:51here in a bit. Robert. Yeah, buddy. He went to
- 6:56the Titans. Oh, congratulations. You're welcome.
- 7:00I will no longer be on the show because I don't
- 7:03need the income from this anymore. You're getting
- 7:06income? You're not? Yeah, I get you two confused
- 7:09pretty often. In Ansala? Yeah. Let's see. The
- 7:15Dolphins hire Packers offensive coordinator Jeff
- 7:19Halfley. Defensive. Defensive, sorry. Is he the
- 7:22one from Boston College? Yeah, he was the head
- 7:24coach at Boston College. He only did one year
- 7:26with you guys, right? Two. Oh, two. He did two
- 7:28with Green Bay and LeFleur in his most recent.
- 7:33made it sound like he was fully anticipating
- 7:35that Halfley would get one of these. I think
- 7:38everyone... assumed it was going to be this one
- 7:41because the Dolphins had just hired the Packers
- 7:45VP of player personnel to be their new GM. So
- 7:48new GM, Halfley, and now the rumor is Malik Willis.
- 7:53So it sounds like they might bring in Malik Willis
- 7:56at quarterback. Oh, interesting. So you know
- 8:00what you got. They both really like Willis. Don't
- 8:02blame them. I'm excited to see the dude get paid.
- 8:04I think he earned that this year in a few games.
- 8:06Quick card market. Does Malik Willis? cards.
- 8:10I'm holding onto a few of them. We'll see what
- 8:11happens. Is it a buyer's market this offseason
- 8:13for Malik Williams? Absolutely. Should I be looking
- 8:16for trades this Saturday? You should. Insider
- 8:19information on Ted. Talk. Anyway. What were we
- 8:27talking about? Robert Sala. I don't know. If
- 8:33I'm Robert Sala, I'm curious what he was thinking
- 8:37about. agreeing to the titans because the titans
- 8:40organization has has been a little i don't know
- 8:43if you want to kind of dysfunctional unorganized
- 8:46whatever like you don't well why don't i don't
- 8:49leave right he got canned he was fired he was
- 8:54like yeah we're going a different direction and
- 8:56then sala experienced the the jets organization
- 9:00crumminess so why What does he see in Tennessee
- 9:05that he's going to have a different experience
- 9:09or better results? He sees something. Broadway?
- 9:13Maybe he's into the country music? The reports
- 9:16coming out is that they impressed each other
- 9:18through his interview. So there's something he
- 9:20heard that made him think he should have confidence
- 9:23here. I don't know. He's got Simmons in the middle,
- 9:26so that's a good corner space for a defensive
- 9:28-minded coach. I'm on the defensive side. And
- 9:31then rolling the dice at Cam Ward is going to
- 9:34turn out to be something. I mean, he should flashes
- 9:36of being better towards the end of the season.
- 9:37I'm definitely rolling Cam another season at
- 9:39least. For sure. And I feel like Tennessee's
- 9:42always kind of been okay to decent. just looking
- 9:46at the course of history. And if there's anyone
- 9:49that can get the most out of who's there now
- 9:51and build, I think it's him. There are pieces
- 9:53of it that make sense, but I agree. It's an interesting
- 9:56decision for sure. But would you really, I mean,
- 9:59stay that 49ers another year and with that young
- 10:02defense and expecting to like repeat the level
- 10:05of play they played and then. lose a little bit.
- 10:08You know, like when an NBA player or a college
- 10:11player plays really good in the March Madness,
- 10:12they better come out that year because that's
- 10:14the highest their stock is going to be. You know
- 10:16what I mean? Absolutely. So, like, coming off
- 10:19a good year, maybe. For Robert? For Robert, yeah.
- 10:21Interesting. Okay. I can't hate that. A little
- 10:25chip in the chair opportunity, you know? Because
- 10:27if they fail next year, maybe he's out of the
- 10:31loop and then maybe never get back into that
- 10:34loop. I mean, I'd take a job. For any coach,
- 10:39I think that taking that head coach job would
- 10:41be. Yeah, if that's your goal, it's tough to
- 10:44say, oh, I don't want to do that. Like, if you
- 10:46can be responsible for turning a franchise around,
- 10:48that's huge. And you already have the young first
- 10:51-run draft pick quarterback to work with when
- 10:53you get there. And how long was he in the Jets?
- 10:56Five? No, three? No, three years. Three years?
- 10:59So he probably has that itch still. He didn't
- 11:01really get an opportunity to finish what he started.
- 11:04I'm excited for him. Good for him. Curious to
- 11:06see what comes of it. This one I'm a little disappointed
- 11:11about. Tell me more. Eric Biennemi. What about
- 11:17him? Back to Kansas City. That sucked. Is that
- 11:20official? I think that sucks for the league.
- 11:24Just partnering back up with Patrick Mahomes
- 11:26again. We'll see. It didn't go well in Washington,
- 11:31I think, is where he just was, wasn't it? No,
- 11:33he was in Chicago. He was the running backs coach.
- 11:36Before that, he was in Washington. Short stint.
- 11:41Because he was a short list head coach opportunity
- 11:44for a minute there. And then he made a lateral
- 11:47move, I think, is what he did, just straight
- 11:49to Washington. Isn't that what it was? And then
- 11:50they did really bad for a while. Was that Jay?
- 11:53That was before Jay. I think it was the year
- 11:56right before. It was the year before. So not
- 11:59excited about that. Curious to see what comes
- 12:02of that. Former Arizona Cardinal offensive coordinator,
- 12:06Drew Petzing. Makes a lateral move over to be
- 12:10the Lions' new offensive coordinator. Just fresh
- 12:13blood. Does Arizona have a coach right now? No.
- 12:16So, I mean, that's probably because Gannon's
- 12:18gone. Right. Arizona is probably, and that's
- 12:23what I was just going to touch on, actually.
- 12:24So, Bills, Ravens, Raiders, Steelers, Browns,
- 12:26Cardinals are still looking for a head coach
- 12:28currently. Obviously, Bills are fresh to the
- 12:29list. But I would imagine out of those teams,
- 12:32I mean, the Cardinals might be last. Maybe the
- 12:38Raiders, but as far as destinations, if you're
- 12:40a head coaching candidate right now, how do you
- 12:42rank them? Cardinals was probably six out of
- 12:44six on that list. Yeah, because Raiders, you
- 12:46at least get the first -round draft pick. And
- 12:48you're kind of handcuffed by Kyler Mendoza. Yeah,
- 12:51unless you want to play Call of Duty. I mean,
- 12:52you might jump that a little bit. Hold on. You
- 12:54got Jacoby Brissett. Yeah. Or you just trade
- 12:56him like you're doing Madden. Just get rid of
- 12:58them right away. Take over the franchise. Gone.
- 13:01Who does that? This guy. I did the same thing
- 13:05to two of them. I know. Wonder why. Anyway, so
- 13:09out of those teams, who's the next one to get
- 13:11their head coach solidified, do you think, out
- 13:13of those six? Bills, Ravens, Raiders, Steelers,
- 13:15Browns, Cardinals? I feel like the Steelers.
- 13:19And do you feel like it's going to be Brian Flores?
- 13:21Yep. Damn it. I hate that. Brian Flores would
- 13:24be such a good fit for them. He should go to
- 13:28the Ravens or the Steelers. He would. That was
- 13:29my thought. Like where I'd want to see him be
- 13:31just based on the teams and the structure and
- 13:34how they run things would be the Steelers or
- 13:36the Ravens I think would be excellent fits. And
- 13:39the Ravens definitely would be the cream of the
- 13:41crop of the two. Is there anybody you see right
- 13:44now that you're hoping and wishing for? Because
- 13:48they interviewed a lot of people right away.
- 13:50And they're still going through second interviews.
- 13:55Are they going to interview Sean McDermott? No.
- 13:57So they interviewed Joe Brady, OC for Buffalo.
- 14:03What? Oh, man. Chris Shula. Both the Rams offensive
- 14:12and defensive coordinators. Would you like one
- 14:14of them to step up and take over HC? Yeah, who's
- 14:17the one you want? Or do you want fresh blood?
- 14:19I mean, you've seen Harbaugh in here for almost
- 14:21your whole life. Let's get a predicament out
- 14:22of you so we can make fun of you later on. Good
- 14:24chunk of your life. Oh, man, you guys are crazy.
- 14:27I don't want Nagy or Cliff Kingsbury or Jim Strachan.
- 14:32Magic Mike. Oh, my gosh. You guys are the worst.
- 14:37Hey, we're just trying to help, man. I don't
- 14:39know who I want because I want somebody that
- 14:45really hasn't made a name for themselves too
- 14:48much yet. Would you take a Brian Flores? I would
- 14:49take a Brian Flores. I would not say no to that.
- 14:53Maybe. Who's a no? Who's a hard no? Well, that's
- 14:56what we were just naming. Oh, who are the hard
- 14:58no's? Good chunk, but he doesn't want Nagy there.
- 15:00No Nagy. Eberflus is available. Yeah. Elite defensive
- 15:04play calling. Just like some of the older head
- 15:07coaches that are out there, Schwartz, Nagy. Cliff
- 15:10Kingsbury isn't that old, but I'm not interested
- 15:13in Cliff Kingsbury. Clint Kubiak could be interesting.
- 15:17And then what's funny about Kubiak was like,
- 15:22so Kubiak being the OC for Seattle has been working
- 15:24with. with McDonald, and then all of a sudden
- 15:28he's now coming back to some of the back -and
- 15:31-forth relationships between teams like that.
- 15:34Yeah, I'm curious if they're slowing down because
- 15:35there's someone in the final four that they want,
- 15:37that they really want, and they're kind of being
- 15:39patient right now is what it seems like. I'm
- 15:41hearing Kubiak out of your voices right now as
- 15:43your top winner. I think that that's... Him or
- 15:46Shula, I feel like. Yeah, I think I would prefer
- 15:50Kubiak because he's still going to have that
- 15:56run -first mentality, which has always been a
- 15:59Ravens mantra. It's like, we're going to run
- 16:02the ball and we're going to play defense. And
- 16:05you're getting an offensive -minded head coach,
- 16:07which I think will be beneficial for Lamar. Well,
- 16:11OK, so while we're here. How do you feel about
- 16:14the Lamar rumors starting to circulate more and
- 16:17more? What rumors? There's rumors going to Vegas.
- 16:21I heard it here first. Vegas Steelers have been
- 16:25out there. How do you feel about the possibility
- 16:29of that? Could you be okay with some young quarterback
- 16:34coming in and still at least having the opportunity
- 16:36to hand off to Derrick Henry, still have a couple
- 16:39options in the passing game? Not many need help
- 16:44there, but, you know. Just rip him down while
- 16:46he's down. The quarterback market is just so
- 16:51tough because it doesn't really feel that strong.
- 16:58Maybe you've got a couple of individuals that
- 17:00you could get a mid -level contract for, like
- 17:04Malik Willis or Mac Jones or something like that,
- 17:06to see if they develop into something more. what
- 17:11they've picked up from their previous destinations.
- 17:14But that's kind of like maybe taking one step
- 17:19back to try and go forward more steps. I don't
- 17:23know. Take one step back to maybe go back forward
- 17:26like one and a half. It almost seems like more
- 17:28than even one step to the analogy because of
- 17:30what Lamar has meant to the team. Right. Because
- 17:33a team would have to be willing to give up a
- 17:38gang of draft picks. or other assets yeah you're
- 17:42talking about an mvp you're talking about a big
- 17:44time impact player so i don't think i don't know
- 17:48i don't know if tom brady's willing to give up
- 17:50like three or four first round picks or a combination
- 17:52of like first and seconds for three years i feel
- 17:55like they already know who they want i feel like
- 17:57they're watching them on no for sure yeah for
- 18:00sure All right. Fair enough. Davis was there
- 18:03in the end, though. Yeah, just staring at him.
- 18:05I'm like, dude, I'm uncomfortable watching you
- 18:07watch him. What are you doing, dude? You already
- 18:09look creepy. He wakes up creepy. Well, that's
- 18:13it. That's all I had for news. You guys hear
- 18:16anything else that we have not to discuss? No.
- 18:20I'm ready. No. No. Oh, no. All right. Sorry.
- 18:24I'm tripping out there. Okay, Davis. Well, thanks
- 18:28for being here, gentlemen. Justin was here, our
- 18:30Packer fan. Appreciate it. Of course. Jake, a
- 18:33Raven fan and co -host of the Gridiron Update.
- 18:35Thanks for having me. Of course. Thank you as
- 18:38our coach. Okay. Yep. Kev, behind the, you know.

- 18:47his new desk that we can see everything. The
- 18:48hemness. Yes, yes. Yeah, the Ikea whatevers.
