- 0:00Speaker 1: The Morning Show with Preston Scott's Get Right to Our
- 0:06Speaker 1: visit with US Congresswoman Kat Camick, Florida's third district. Congratulations
- 0:11Speaker 1: Congresswoman on the reelection.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Oh, thank you, thank you. It is good to be back,
- 0:17Speaker 2: and we have got a lot of work to do
- 0:19Speaker 2: in very little time.
- 0:21Speaker 1: I've described it as squatters have been in a house
- 0:23Speaker 1: for four years and it's been torched and destroyed, and
- 0:27Speaker 1: the rebuilding is going to be very, very difficult. Anyone
- 0:31Speaker 1: that's ever occupied a home while doing a renovation knows
- 0:34Speaker 1: how troubling that is. Kat, I don't think I'm far
- 0:37Speaker 1: off by saying there is really no way of describing
- 0:41Speaker 1: how broken things are.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Oh that's putting it mildly, and I got a bit
- 0:48Speaker 2: of a taste of it yesterday. We have not four years.
- 0:54Speaker 2: We have two years. Because historically the house that is
- 0:59Speaker 2: in power, when the new administration comes in, it flips.
- 1:03Speaker 2: So right now we're operating underneath the assumption that Republicans
- 1:06Speaker 2: will have the House for the next few years, and
- 1:09Speaker 2: then after that Democrats will do everything they can to
- 1:11Speaker 2: obstruct the Trump forty seven agenda. So we have very
- 1:16Speaker 2: little time to get this done. And when we say
- 1:18Speaker 2: it's broke, it is broke to the core, and I
- 1:22Speaker 2: don't know if there's any amount of super glue that
- 1:24Speaker 2: we can we can find that will piece it back together.
- 1:27Speaker 2: So in many ways, we just have to take this
- 1:29Speaker 2: all the way down to the studs and start again.
- 1:32Speaker 2: And we're going to be on a mission to make
- 1:33Speaker 2: government as small and efficient as humanly possible. And I
- 1:38Speaker 2: think President Trump has been knocking it out of the
- 1:41Speaker 2: park with his cabinet picks. This is going to be
- 1:45Speaker 2: American freedom on steroids, and I could not be more
- 1:49Speaker 2: excited for it. Kat.
- 1:51Speaker 1: One of the reasons why I'm so grateful to you
- 1:53Speaker 1: from making time even though a large part of my
- 1:57Speaker 1: regular radio audience iHeart obviously moves the show across the country,
- 2:01Speaker 1: but we're not in your district. A large part of
- 2:04Speaker 1: it just is not. But one of the reasons why
- 2:06Speaker 1: I have you is I don't know of many that
- 2:09Speaker 1: are as candid about the temperature of what's going on
- 2:13Speaker 1: in Washington inside the beltweigh as you, So let me
- 2:17Speaker 1: just ask you this up front. Well, the Freedom Caucus,
- 2:21Speaker 1: which I'm a big fan of, will they turn perfect
- 2:25Speaker 1: into the enemy of good because we cannot Afford GOP infighting.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Well, we got a real big taste of that yesterday.
- 2:38Speaker 2: No surprise. Once again, you know, it was deja vu.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Two years ago we had this fight with Kevin McCarthy
- 2:45Speaker 2: and then yesterday we were watching it play out with
- 2:49Speaker 2: Speaker Mike Johnson. And it all comes down to the
- 2:52Speaker 2: rules package. Now, the rules package in the conference is
- 2:56Speaker 2: how we conduct ourselves, how we do our business, and
- 2:59Speaker 2: it always seems to come down to the motion to vacate.
- 3:03Speaker 2: The motion to vacate is the tool that members have
- 3:07Speaker 2: to replace the Speaker of the House. Now, historically for
- 3:10Speaker 2: decades that had been four was the number. Then it
- 3:14Speaker 2: was negotiated two years ago to go down to one,
- 3:19Speaker 2: and that is how Matt Gates and Kevin McCarthy infamously
- 3:22Speaker 2: had that clash, and Kevin McCarthy was then replaced. There
- 3:26Speaker 2: has been so much movement up here in Washington to
- 3:29Speaker 2: make it a simple majority of members required in order
- 3:34Speaker 2: to remove it. The Freedom Caucus and some others have
- 3:37Speaker 2: said no, we want to keep it at one. Well,
- 3:40Speaker 2: this is where it gets frustrating for me. I think
- 3:42Speaker 2: sunlight is the best disinfectant, and what we saw yesterday
- 3:46Speaker 2: was another backsdoor deal negotiated in secret, and we don't
- 3:51Speaker 2: know what the deal was that was negotiated. And what
- 3:55Speaker 2: I have seen is it doesn't matter what label you
- 3:57Speaker 2: put on or what group you belong to within the House,
- 4:00Speaker 2: whether you're Freedom Caucus or you know, Main Street or
- 4:04Speaker 2: whatever other group there you know you belong to, people
- 4:08Speaker 2: will always let their ambitions PLoud their judgment. And two
- 4:13Speaker 2: years ago we saw where it wasn't just about the
- 4:15Speaker 2: motion of vacate, it was give me a committee assignment.
- 4:18Speaker 2: I want an office in the capital, I want this,
- 4:21Speaker 2: I want that. Yesterday, behind closed doors, they were negotiating
- 4:26Speaker 2: the motion to vacate. We don't know what that magic
- 4:29Speaker 2: number is, but we do know that there were as
- 4:32Speaker 2: a request made to have more office space, more committee assignments,
- 4:40Speaker 2: more of this, more of that. I'm watching my country
- 4:43Speaker 2: die and people up here still want to operate with
- 4:47Speaker 2: the cloak and dagger smoke filled back rooms. We have
- 4:51Speaker 2: to take this all the way down to the studs
- 4:54Speaker 2: because the American people deserve to know the truth of
- 4:57Speaker 2: what's going on up here and who's really on the side.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Because all I've seen so far is a bunch of
- 5:02Speaker 2: people up here that are in it for themselves and
- 5:05Speaker 2: their political careers, not for the American people.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Twenty one passed the hour. I told you, folks in
- 5:11Speaker 1: the wake of the election results, don't pop the champagne,
- 5:16Speaker 1: don't break open the corks, because not only as Congresswoman
- 5:20Speaker 1: Kat Camick is telling us, do we have a crapload
- 5:23Speaker 1: of work to get done? And I say we because, folks,
- 5:27Speaker 1: you play a role in this in pressuring your members
- 5:29Speaker 1: of Congress. But Kat, you're describing the other side of
- 5:35Speaker 1: my fears, and that is that the GOP will not
- 5:38Speaker 1: awaken to what the voting public just asked for, and
- 5:42Speaker 1: they'll just get in their own way and fumble it
- 5:44Speaker 1: all away. Tell me about your I know that the
- 5:48Speaker 1: young Republicans of Florida wanted you, pushed hard for you
- 5:52Speaker 1: to be Conference Chair. What happened in that.
- 5:56Speaker 2: So yesterday was our leadership elections and or some leadership.
- 6:00Speaker 2: You have the Speaker of the House, the majority leader,
- 6:03Speaker 2: and the majority leader brings he sets the schedule and
- 6:06Speaker 2: what determines what bills come to the floor. Then you
- 6:09Speaker 2: have the whip who is responsible for the counting the votes,
- 6:12Speaker 2: making sure we have the votes. And then you have
- 6:14Speaker 2: Conference Chair who is the messenger and the person who
- 6:18Speaker 2: organizes and keeps the conference together. And make no mistake,
- 6:22Speaker 2: if we are not one team, one mission, and that
- 6:25Speaker 2: mission being America First. With the exceptionally narrow majority that
- 6:30Speaker 2: we have, we will not be able to get President
- 6:32Speaker 2: Trump's agenda done. And so I thought that I was
- 6:36Speaker 2: absolutely the best person to communicate those conservative principles, to
- 6:43Speaker 2: communicate to the American public what we're doing, how we're
- 6:47Speaker 2: doing it, and why we're doing it, and to keep
- 6:49Speaker 2: the conference together because I get along with everyone. But
- 6:53Speaker 2: at the end of the day, I was told when
- 6:56Speaker 2: the vote came down that because I do not support earmarks,
- 7:00Speaker 2: that I was not the choice for the conference. I
- 7:05Speaker 2: was also told that because I did not vote to
- 7:07Speaker 2: remove George Santos, that I would not be in leadership.
- 7:12Speaker 2: And to the George Santos situation, I'll say this, the
- 7:17Speaker 2: voters are the ones in charge. Our folks back home
- 7:20Speaker 2: are our bosses. And I don't think that it is
- 7:23Speaker 2: right for members of Congress to pretend to be the
- 7:28Speaker 2: moral authority and to disenfranchise eight hundred thousand of someone
- 7:33Speaker 2: else's voters. And that's effectively what people who voted to
- 7:37Speaker 2: kick George Santos out. Did Not only was it a
- 7:40Speaker 2: stupid political decision narrowing our majority which stopped us from
- 7:44Speaker 2: getting more done and stopping the radical Biden agenda, but
- 7:48Speaker 2: we disenfranchised eight hundred thousand people. To me, that's absolutely insane.
- 7:53Speaker 2: And so I wish the conference, of course, the best
- 7:57Speaker 2: of luck, and I will do everything, in anything I
- 7:59Speaker 2: can to make sure that we are united and that
- 8:02Speaker 2: we stick together. But this has got to be a
- 8:06Speaker 2: reckoning that the swamp is so very real, and that
- 8:10Speaker 2: there will never be a real, a real movement to
- 8:17Speaker 2: put America first until politicians put themselves second.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Kat much was made of Donald Trump not draining the
- 8:27Speaker 1: swamp his first time in office. I think he learned
- 8:30Speaker 1: a lot of lessons about who to put around him,
- 8:33Speaker 1: and I think we're seeing that instead of having the
- 8:36Speaker 1: junior varsity as the cabinet, he's looking at the varsity
- 8:39Speaker 1: this time around. But having said that, there's only so
- 8:43Speaker 1: much a president can do. If members of Congress want
- 8:46Speaker 1: to bring the fire hose and just load the swamp
- 8:48Speaker 1: back up with water, they're certainly capable of doing that absolutely.
- 8:53Speaker 2: I mean, we all talk about taking away the pen
- 8:57Speaker 2: and phone you know, Obama famously said he didn't need Congress,
- 8:59Speaker 2: he had a pen phone. Well we've seen how well
- 9:02Speaker 2: that works out. Trump had to unfortunately do a lot
- 9:04Speaker 2: of his work via executive order, and Biden was able
- 9:08Speaker 2: to just dismantle it with the stroke of a pen.
- 9:10Speaker 2: So you need Congress. And that's why I have spent
- 9:13Speaker 2: the last two years criss crossing the country like Carmen
- 9:17Speaker 2: San Diego, raising money for candidates, doing everything I can
- 9:21Speaker 2: to help secure the House for President Trump. And what
- 9:25Speaker 2: I am hearing now is people are more concerned for
- 9:28Speaker 2: their political careers and they're saying, Hey, maybe I should
- 9:31Speaker 2: go to the administration. Hey, maybe I should do this,
- 9:33Speaker 2: Hey maybe I should do that. Hey I have an idea.
- 9:35Speaker 2: How about we actually do the work that we all
- 9:37Speaker 2: campaigned on and said we were going to do. How
- 9:39Speaker 2: about we reduce the size of the government. How about
- 9:41Speaker 2: we start draining the swamp and getting rid of the unelected, nameless,
- 9:44Speaker 2: faceless beacrafts. Why don't we fix health care? We don't
- 9:47Speaker 2: have health care, we have sick care. When are we
- 9:49Speaker 2: going to address inflation? What are we going to get
- 9:51Speaker 2: energy back online? These are all the things that we
- 9:54Speaker 2: campaigned on and so if we don't get right to
- 9:57Speaker 2: business in the first one hundred days, I don't see
- 10:00Speaker 2: this going the way that President Trump wants it, and
- 10:03Speaker 2: we need it, and the American people should demand it,
- 10:06Speaker 2: and they should be asking their member of Congress, what
- 10:08Speaker 2: the hell are you doing to make sure that the
- 10:11Speaker 2: America First Agenda is getting underway. It is absolutely furiating
- 10:16Speaker 2: that we're on day one and we can't seem to
- 10:19Speaker 2: get it together.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Congresswoman, don't be surprised if you see a link emailed
- 10:24Speaker 1: to you about a petition that someone that you know
- 10:26Speaker 1: and are talking to right now is putting together. You
- 10:30Speaker 1: got it.
- 10:33Speaker 2: More than somebody.
- 10:34Speaker 1: You're my hero.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Thanks Kat, Thank you guys, have a great week.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Thank you you as well. Bless you, and I mean
- 10:41Speaker 1: that sincerely, bless you. Unfiltered raw truth. This is why
- 10:52Speaker 1: I have her on the show, because you just we've
- 11:00Speaker 1: heard things others are not willing to say. She doesn't
- 11:05Speaker 1: give a rat's rear end about appointments and committees, and
- 11:11Speaker 1: trust me, she'll be in committees because she's too good
- 11:14Speaker 1: at what she does. But that's the type of people
- 11:21Speaker 1: we need fighting for us in Congress twenty eight minutes
- 11:24Speaker 1: past the hour, the rest of you take notes
