Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: So I want to start, you know, with with with
- 0:03Speaker 1: sports fans. So I want to have a sports conversation
- 0:05Speaker 1: if we can, sure.
- 0:08Speaker 2: You where you're at right now? La since rest? You
- 0:13Speaker 2: know what, God not this that.
- 0:17Speaker 1: The level of disrespect that Lebron has received is pretty
- 0:21Speaker 1: historic when you really think about it, right from Dylan
- 0:24Speaker 1: Brooks saying he's the most overrated player in the league,
- 0:26Speaker 1: the dude in Cleveland saying that it's Donovan Mitchell City.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Now, I don't know.
- 0:30Speaker 1: I just feel like this is Michael Jordan when he
- 0:34Speaker 1: was at the tail end of his career playing with
- 0:36Speaker 1: the Washington Wizards. He was They had so much reverence
- 0:40Speaker 1: for Michael Jordan or even Kobe's last season. I feel
- 0:44Speaker 1: like it's just why are the why are people so
- 0:48Speaker 1: disrespectful to somebody that's in the tail end of his
- 0:51Speaker 1: career and has only done.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Great things in the league asking for a friends? Asking
- 0:57Speaker 2: for a friends? You know, you know what's weird this happened?
- 1:02Speaker 3: Well, you got to think about how the history of
- 1:05Speaker 3: the league and Magic and Bird and Michael, they kind
- 1:09Speaker 3: of made it mainstream. So I can't be I can't
- 1:14Speaker 3: make anyone on their villains just yet. I have to
- 1:17Speaker 3: have people fall in love with the story. So Larry Bird,
- 1:22Speaker 3: Mazie Johnson, East versus West, white boy, black guy. Then
- 1:27Speaker 3: Michael flies in the air. So it was marketing more entertainment.
- 1:32Speaker 2: So to speak.
- 1:33Speaker 3: And then now that they got you hooked and they
- 1:37Speaker 3: got good versus evil kind of thing, and whatever city
- 1:40Speaker 3: you're from, I believe that now kind of like reality
- 1:45Speaker 3: show Kardashianis and all the housewives and all this other stuff,
- 1:49Speaker 3: they like drama. So I think advertiser said scratch and
- 1:55Speaker 3: his said, ah, it's an entertainment. Drama sells better than
- 1:58Speaker 3: just the good old keeping everything cool. So when you
- 2:01Speaker 3: go on these talk shows, as far as the sports ones,
- 2:04Speaker 3: I can bash bash bash. Oh that's more ratings, okay, cool,
- 2:08Speaker 3: bash bass Oh that's more ratings.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Okay cool.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Because if everybody say all good stuff, it's boring to
- 2:14Speaker 3: the entertainment world.
- 2:16Speaker 2: That's just my you know, my thing.
- 2:18Speaker 3: And I think that started kind of like late two thousands, right,
- 2:22Speaker 3: so you didn't hear it about Mike or Charles or
- 2:24Speaker 3: Robin kind of thing where it was like everybody's a villain, right,
- 2:29Speaker 3: someone's always saying something negative about only five thousand of
- 2:32Speaker 3: us that ever played this game right.
- 2:35Speaker 2: And then another thing too is it's like you go
- 2:37Speaker 2: to any park.
- 2:38Speaker 3: It's no other sport in the world where everyone thinks,
- 2:42Speaker 3: even when they just know basketball, that they can play
- 2:44Speaker 3: to their level that we played at. There's no other
- 2:47Speaker 3: sport like that, No baseball, no tennis, no nothing. Everything
- 2:51Speaker 3: is man, I get me five or ten on him.
- 2:55Speaker 3: This guy's trash, you know what I mean. And you're
- 2:58Speaker 3: looking like, yo, come on, don That's how it works,
- 3:01Speaker 3: you know, I mean, like, guys are pretty good open here. Yeah,
- 3:04Speaker 3: are we in a scary time for the NBA?
- 3:07Speaker 4: Because I look at the ratings and they say, like, yes,
- 3:11Speaker 4: you know, Christmas wasn't all time high and the ratings
- 3:14Speaker 4: and I'm a fan, a diehard fan, you see. I'm
- 3:17Speaker 4: in my Bulls Derry Rose retirment jacket tonight and I'm
- 3:20Speaker 4: thinking to myself, I can't tell you where the games
- 3:24Speaker 4: are right like, they're streaming everywhere, all over.
- 3:26Speaker 2: The place, which makes it tough.
- 3:28Speaker 4: The other part of it is that and we gotta
- 3:31Speaker 4: be careful with Lebron because he's a mega star in
- 3:33Speaker 4: this space. Curry's a megastar. I put Durant right on
- 3:36Speaker 4: that level. But if we're not careful, we won't be able.
- 3:40Speaker 2: To have another mega star.
- 3:41Speaker 4: I don't who's the next mega star that they can
- 3:44Speaker 4: build that story around.
- 3:47Speaker 3: A great question. I would say, who's my favorite? Who
- 3:53Speaker 3: can be the mega mega megastar? Is Anthony Ewards? His
- 3:58Speaker 3: his character, the way he he's a dog, all of
- 4:02Speaker 3: that is just like phenomenal to me.
- 4:04Speaker 2: About Winby, I don't know if he's a megastar because
- 4:08Speaker 2: see Winby. Listen.
- 4:10Speaker 3: I love Winby, and please I don't want him to
- 4:12Speaker 3: no one to take inside of contest. He's kind of
- 4:14Speaker 3: like he's very French. He's very it's very like snooty
- 4:18Speaker 3: kind of thing. So it's like he he's moody, you
- 4:21Speaker 3: know what I mean, Like he's a moody individual. Now
- 4:23Speaker 3: I love him, right, the guy is on point, especially
- 4:27Speaker 3: at such a young age. But Anthony Edwards has a
- 4:29Speaker 3: lot more character at the moment to be that right,
- 4:33Speaker 3: because you know he's from the hood and he can joke,
- 4:35Speaker 3: but he'll come back at you and it's I mean,
- 4:37Speaker 3: it's just it's just a little something different. Now I
- 4:40Speaker 3: would I would say Winby, yeah, but I haven't seen
- 4:43Speaker 3: his personality. We've seen Anthony Edwards, every phase of him.
- 4:48Speaker 4: I think the interesting part with because I would agree
- 4:51Speaker 4: with you with Aunt, is just that we live in
- 4:53Speaker 4: the world of social media, so it's not just the
- 4:55Speaker 4: onder court things, like the marketing is great, but then
- 4:57Speaker 4: we got the a court things.
- 4:58Speaker 2: I feel like when of the league thought Zion was
- 5:01Speaker 2: going to be that guy, and.
- 5:01Speaker 4: Now we hear the court things when Joe was supposed
- 5:04Speaker 4: to be the guy, then we see the off the
- 5:05Speaker 4: court things. It becomes a little tricky right to say, like, hey,
- 5:11Speaker 4: go support this is going to be the face of
- 5:12Speaker 4: the league.
- 5:13Speaker 2: That's right.
- 5:15Speaker 3: So now think about it, Mike, Charles, Dennis, everybody. This
- 5:19Speaker 3: was no social media, so they couldn't gauge it of
- 5:23Speaker 3: what the fans wanted to see.
- 5:24Speaker 2: More of drama, cleanness, this.
- 5:27Speaker 3: That, and then the league is just starting, so I
- 5:29Speaker 3: can't put all your business out there in the streets
- 5:31Speaker 3: because we need the fans. Now it's NBA is solidified,
- 5:36Speaker 3: so I can because of social media, I can put
- 5:39Speaker 3: that out there if I really want to. Because the
- 5:42Speaker 3: the you know, the the polls are showing that drama sells.
- 5:47Speaker 3: So Anthony Ever's with the baby mama, So this person
- 5:49Speaker 3: with this, this person with d oh yeah, but he's
- 5:52Speaker 3: still playing hard.
- 5:52Speaker 2: It's like it's a lot of fluff.
- 5:54Speaker 3: So, I mean, I think that's why they promoted it
- 5:59Speaker 3: like that, because that's what the world want to see
- 6:02Speaker 3: more as much as they don't want to see it.
- 6:04Speaker 3: They want to see drama, they want to see noise,
- 6:07Speaker 3: they want to see reality show type of stuff also
- 6:10Speaker 3: at the same time. But you know, I me personally
- 6:13Speaker 3: between Wenby and Anthony Evers, I would pick Anthony Evers
- 6:16Speaker 3: because he's maturing slowly, but he's still that's megastar.
- 6:22Speaker 1: So you was a hell of a player in your
- 6:24Speaker 1: in your day, and you know, you came up traditionally,
- 6:28Speaker 1: right like as far as high school, college, NBA, we're
- 6:32Speaker 1: seeing a change and that happen now where Nil has
- 6:37Speaker 1: really changed the dynamic, where like Rick Patino said, he's
- 6:39Speaker 1: no longer recruiting college high school players. Yeah, and you've
- 6:42Speaker 1: got kids that's twenty five years old playing in college
- 6:47Speaker 1: and kids, some kids in college are making more money
- 6:51Speaker 1: than professional athletes.
- 6:53Speaker 2: I couldn't have did it.
- 6:53Speaker 3: I couldn't have did it. I could twenty years old
- 6:55Speaker 3: brom getting six fast, seven figures. I'm out of control.
- 6:59Speaker 3: Were you out of mine.
- 7:01Speaker 2: You're gonna be the mayor. You're gonna be the governor
- 7:02Speaker 2: of Rhode Island. Well man, listen, you hear me.
- 7:05Speaker 3: I'm telling you right now I had boats all just
- 7:08Speaker 3: govern run out.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Do you think that it's ruining Do you think that
- 7:11Speaker 2: it's ruining basketball? I don't let me tell you why.
- 7:14Speaker 2: I don't.
- 7:15Speaker 3: Fam is because this transition happened in the eighties with
- 7:19Speaker 3: NBA players. Okay, there was guys that were drinking still
- 7:23Speaker 3: at halftime or smoking cigarettes and you know, maybe doing
- 7:26Speaker 3: drugs wherever it is. And that's every sport that wasn't
- 7:28Speaker 3: just no basketball. But my point is it was like
- 7:31Speaker 3: it was new money, and it was new environment, it
- 7:33Speaker 3: was new situations.
- 7:34Speaker 2: So it's going to be an ugly little.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Situation that's going on for these college guys getting that
- 7:39Speaker 3: bulk of money in their families and everything like that.
- 7:41Speaker 2: I think it's a blessing.
- 7:43Speaker 3: The silver lining behind it kind of like the Trump thing, right,
- 7:46Speaker 3: The silver lining behind it is someone has to sacrifice
- 7:50Speaker 3: for us, for us to see what we should not.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Do you understand, So as bad as it may look,
- 7:57Speaker 3: it's not gonna stop in il deals, not gonna stop
- 8:00Speaker 3: kids getting paid now, it's already started. So now the
- 8:04Speaker 3: kids in the future will say, Okay, you know what,
- 8:06Speaker 3: I'm gonna do this. I'm gonna get ira, I'm gonna
- 8:08Speaker 3: do this.
- 8:08Speaker 2: I'm on it. I'm gonna live off of two thousand
- 8:10Speaker 2: a month.
- 8:10Speaker 3: I'm gonna do It's gonna they're gonna see it the
- 8:12Speaker 3: Russell Westbrooks of the world of Chris Paul's, the.
- 8:14Speaker 2: Carmelo Anthony's, Lebron James.
- 8:16Speaker 3: You know, you see it become It's not just Michael
- 8:20Speaker 3: and Larry Bird and you know Isaiah Thomas and you
- 8:25Speaker 3: know Magic Johnson. It's a whole bunch of guys that
- 8:28Speaker 3: are businessman now. So it's gonna be ugly for sake. Second,
- 8:32Speaker 3: until it gets to that point where guy's a lot more.
- 8:35Speaker 3: You know, money is money, and let's figure out how
- 8:37Speaker 3: we can make it last.
