- Lucas: Welcome back, everyone. It's Lucas, and here with me is the fantastic Luna. Luna: Hej! I'm so ready for another Swedish lesson. We've been on a shopping spree lately, huh? Lucas: Exactly. Last week we grabbed some cake at the bakery. Today, let's do something a little different. Luna: What's that? Lucas: How about buying a newspaper at a newsstand? A classic, useful scenario. Luna: Ooh, I like it. I do enjoy flipping through a paper while sipping coffee. Lucas: Perfect. So, the first phrase you need is: Jag skulle vilja ha en tidning. Luna: Jag skulle vilja ha en tidning. Lucas: Nice. That means 'I would like a newspaper.' Let's break it down a bit. Jag skulle vilja ha – that's 'I would like to have.' En tidning is 'a newspaper.' Luna: Jag skulle vilja ha en tidning. That's not too hard. Lucas: You've got it. Now, at a newsstand, you might want to specify which language. So: Har ni en tidning på svenska? Luna: Har ni en tidning på svenska? That's 'Do you have a newspaper in Swedish?' Lucas: Exactly. På svenska – in Swedish. You can swap that for på engelska if you prefer. Luna: Okay, so if I'm feeling brave, I'd ask for på svenska. If not, på engelska. Lucas: Either way, you're asking. And when the seller shows you one, you say: Jag tar den här, tack. Luna: Jag tar den här, tack. 'I'll take this one, please.' Lucas: Good. Den här means 'this one.' And of course, you might want to know the price: Hur mycket kostar den? Luna: Hur mycket kostar den? That's 'How much does it cost?' Lucas: Perfect. And after you pay, you can say: Tack så mycket. That's 'Thank you very much.' You've heard that one before. Luna: Oh yeah, tack så mycket. Easy. Lucas: Now, let's put it all together in a little scene. Imagine you walk up to the counter. Luna: Hej, jag skulle vilja ha en tidning. Lucas: The seller says: Har du en tidning på svenska? Wait, actually, they'd say: Har ni en tidning på svenska? Luna: Ah, right. So, Har ni en tidning på svenska? Lucas: Exactly. Then they say: Ja, här har du en. And you say: Jag tar den här, tack. Hur mycket kostar den? Luna: Jag tar den här, tack. Hur mycket kostar den? Lucas: They tell you the price, and you hand over the money, and finally: Tack så mycket. Luna: Tack så mycket. Nice, that felt real. Lucas: Yeah, you're ready. Now, let's talk about something for a sec. You know how we keep putting out these episodes without ads? Luna: Yeah, it's pretty great, right? Lucas: It is. And the reason is that some listeners chip in a little each month. It's like, buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. That's literally what funds the show. Luna: Oh, that's so good. I love that people do that. Lucas: Yeah, it means we can keep making these and keep them free for everyone. So, back to the paper. Let's practice that whole exchange one more time. Luna: Okay, I'm ready. Jag skulle vilja ha en tidning. Lucas: Har ni en tidning på svenska? Luna: Har ni en tidning på svenska? Lucas: Jag tar den här, tack. Luna: Jag tar den här, tack. Hur mycket kostar den? Lucas: Tack så mycket. Luna: Tack så mycket. Perfect. Lucas: See, you're a pro now. If Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with Swedish, that's wonderful. Keep practicing these phrases, and you'll be all set. Luna: Yes, and remember to say hello to the newsagent for me. Lucas: We'll talk again soon. Hej då! Luna: Hej då!
