Transcript
- Lucas: Luna, ready for another tiny Swahili lesson? I've got a good one today. Luna: Always ready, Lucas. What are we learning? Lucas: Body parts. Specifically, the face. Eyes, ears, mouth — macho, masikio, mdomo. Luna: Oh, I love that. Let's start with macho. That's eyes, right? Lucas: Exactly. Macho. Say it with me: macho. Luna: Macho. Lucas: Perfect. Now, these are my eyes. In Swahili: haya ni macho yangu. Repeat after me: haya ni macho yangu. Luna: Haya ni macho yangu. That's a bit of a mouthful. Lucas: You got it. Now ears: masikio. Say it: masikio. Luna: Masikio. Sounds like 'muh see kee oh'? Lucas: Close enough. And these are my ears: haya ni masikio yangu. Luna: Haya ni masikio yangu. I like the rhythm. Lucas: Now mouth: mdomo. Say it: mdomo. Luna: Mdomo. That's fun. Mdomo. Lucas: And this is my mouth: huu ni mdomo wangu. Luna: Huu ni mdomo wangu. Why 'huu' and not 'haya'? Lucas: Great question. 'Mdomo' is a different noun class. We'll get into that later. For now, just practice the phrases. Luna: Okay, so let me try all three. Haya ni macho yangu, haya ni masikio yangu, huu ni mdomo wangu. Lucas: Flawless. You're a natural. Luna: So if I point to my eyes and say 'haya ni macho yangu,' someone would understand? Lucas: Absolutely. And if you point to your mouth and say 'huu ni mdomo wangu,' they'd know exactly what you mean. Luna: This is great. I can already imagine teaching my friends. Lucas: Speaking of friends, you know what else is great? When listeners support the show. If today's lesson was worth a coffee to you, that's the link — buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. It helps us keep making these lessons ad-free. Luna: Absolutely. Every little bit helps. Now, let's practice with a little game. I'll say a body part in English, you say it in Swahili. Lucas: Okay, hit me. Luna: Eyes. Lucas: Macho. Luna: Ears. Lucas: Masikio. Luna: Mouth. Lucas: Mdomo. Luna: Now the full sentences. These are my eyes. Lucas: Haya ni macho yangu. Luna: These are my ears. Lucas: Haya ni masikio yangu. Luna: This is my mouth. Lucas: Huu ni mdomo wangu. Luna: You're way too good at this, Lucas. Lucas: That's my job. Now, let's wrap it up. Repeat after me: macho, masikio, mdomo. Luna: Macho, masikio, mdomo. Lucas: Haya ni macho yangu, haya ni masikio yangu, huu ni mdomo wangu. Luna: Haya ni macho yangu, haya ni masikio yangu, huu ni mdomo wangu. Lucas: You did it. Practice those until we meet again. See you next time, Luna. Luna: See you next time, Lucas. Keep practicing, everyone!
