- 0:01All right, had Shuva sheet #2. If we're going to understand the
- 0:07power of Tashuva, then we have to first make sense of what
- 0:10happens when we do something wrong.
- 0:13How does doing the wrong thing? Let's use the word sin because
- 0:16it's an easy word to use. How does that affect a person?
- 0:20So there's a very important verse we have to learn.
- 0:23Book of Gahalet Ecclesiastes Chapter 7, verse 29.
- 0:28Hashem created, man. Straight created, perfect,
- 0:34healthy, uncomplicated. How the world was created.
- 0:38The hastidic master masters like to explain Bereshit Bara,
- 0:43eloquem. In the beginning God created.
- 0:45That's the literal translation. But some like to see the word
- 0:49Bara which is created related to the word Bari.
- 0:54So in the beginning Hashem created a healthy world.
- 1:00Everything was how it should be. And when something goes wrong,
- 1:03whether it's just in our bodies or some, we've transgressed the
- 1:07law in the Torah, whatever it might be, and we'll come to
- 1:09these ideas. We've corrupted what was once
- 1:13perfect and take it, taken it in the direction it should never
- 1:17have gone in. The Rabbi's explained that when
- 1:21Hashem blessed Adam and created him and gave him a job to do, he
- 1:27lifted him up, brought him to all the trees of the garden of
- 1:30Eden and he said to him take a look at all that I have done,
- 1:33how beautiful, how praiseworthy everything is and everything
- 1:39that I created, I created for your sake.
- 1:41This was an act of love for you. Therefore say the Rabbi.
- 1:45God said take care not to damage or destroy my world because
- 1:49everything started out perfect and we talked in the Gomara in
- 1:55the Talmud that before we are born we are given some
- 1:58instructions. One of them is be it, be
- 2:00righteous and do not be wicked. We have to guard God's the
- 2:06perfection that has shown created and we have to do
- 2:09whatever we can do to maintain the health of the world and the
- 2:13health of our bodies. Of course we understand that the
- 2:17Torah is the rule book for how to do that in the optimal way
- 2:22possible. It's both how to look after the
- 2:24world and how to look after our bodies, and how to maintain our
- 2:27spiritual relationship with Hashem.
- 2:30Perhaps this is going to sound harsh, but it's maybe worth
- 2:34thinking like this. A person's sinful self is a
- 2:38forgery. It's not how it should be.
- 2:41It's cheap, it's unnatural, it's diseased.
- 2:44Sin distorts and sickens that which is naturally perfect.
- 2:50It's the loss of the beauty with which mankind and the entire
- 2:53world were originally endowed, and consequently, Trevor,
- 2:58therefore, is not. I've got to change myself, take
- 3:01on new rules, dress differently, act differently, explain myself
- 3:05to my neighbors. That why do you seem so, so over
- 3:08the top, Committed to Judaism. Sin is really just bringing us
- 3:11back to where we were before we did the wrong thing.
- 3:17So when we do the wrong thing, we create an imbalance, not just
- 3:20for ourselves, not just for our religious self, but in the world
- 3:24at large. Everything is affected, Nature
- 3:27is affected, our bodies are affected.
- 3:28And so to Shiva, begins with healing ourselves, our physical
- 3:33selves. Simple example, if we get out in
- 3:38on a cold day and we don't dress properly, then we're likely to
- 3:42get sick. We have to dress and keep
- 3:45ourselves warm so we understand. And that's the physical symptoms
- 3:49of doing something foolish. And the same is true spiritually
- 3:53as well. But there are lots of rough cook
- 3:57that in the physical world that don't just go against our
- 4:00physical nature but go against the teaching the rules of the
- 4:03Torah. The Torah forbids.
- 4:05For example, certain relationships are forbidden.
- 4:09And we know in the physical world, if people have
- 4:12inappropriate relationships, then, and you create children,
- 4:15those children could be mutations that could be born
- 4:19with the DNA, can clash, it can create diseases, et cetera, of
- 4:25cook. And so ultimately every evil
- 4:26practice leads to sickness and suffering.
- 4:31And the human being, whether as an individual or as part of a
- 4:34society, suffers terribly from this.
- 4:38So how do we fix it? How do we cure ourselves?
- 4:41Come back tomorrow. I told you, this is deep.
- 4:43This is found. We have to build it slowly.
- 4:46Have a lovely day.
