- 0:00Hello and welcome back to Travel Tip Tuesday with the Travel Mug Podcast.
- 0:05I am Jenn and I am joined by my partner in podcasting.
- 0:09Meggan and Meggan, you are getting ready to go on a trip.
- 0:14So I have to ask, how many bags are you and your husband taking and are you packed yet?
- 0:21I am surprisingly not packed yet.
- 0:24Oh, wow.
- 0:24gonna start tomorrow though, which leaves me I think five business days.
- 0:28Um, and we're each gonna take a backpack and each going to take a suitcase.
- 0:34Okay, so this leads really well into my travel tip Tuesday for you today, which is a packing strategy called cross packing.
- 0:45So.
- 0:46What is cross packing?
- 0:48If you are traveling with two or more bags, the idea is that each person traveling would pack a little bit of clothes and items in each bag.
- 0:58So the sole purpose of this is just in case your luggage gets lost, you would at least have a few things of your own.
- 1:05So I often do this.
- 1:06And a little bit differently because I pack at least two outfits in my carry-on so that if my checked luggage is lost or delayed, I have some options without buying some things.
- 1:18I just have to say, always make sure to carry the essentials in your carry-on medication, cash, valuables, tickets, charging cords.
- 1:26Whatever you deem to be essential.
- 1:30Um, but essentially this is just another way to minimize the effect on your trip if your luggage does happen to go missing or is delayed.
- 1:39But don't forget, if airlines do lose your luggage, you are entitled to compensation, including replacing the contents and the suitcase.
- 1:46So, Meggan, have you ever cross packed in the future and do you think you will do it for this trip?
- 1:53Maybe.
- 1:54I do what you do.
- 1:56So I've never crossed, packed, uh, Peter and I have never crossed, packed with things.
- 2:01Oh no.
- 2:02Um, but I have added to my carryon and I will do that this time.
- 2:07I mean, there's no reason not to, I guess I've just never really thought about it, but I think it is a great idea.
- 2:13I think the only issue I think he would have is 'cause he just automatically thinks I pack too much, so then his suitcase is going to weigh too much where my suitcase will, you know what I'm saying?
- 2:22Like yeah.
- 2:23My problems that I have.
- 2:25Um, but yeah, I definitely will put some stuff.
- 2:27We both got new backpacks, so I'll probably, , put like an outfit and extra, extra blooms in there in case things go missing.
- 2:34But it, thankfully for this trip, it's a direct flight, so fingers crossed, crossed.
- 2:39Yeah.
- 2:40our stuff gets on.
- 2:40But I think this is a great idea and I think it just makes real good logical sense.
- 2:44Yeah.
- 2:44I mean that the like downside is then you're like hunting through two or more different bags to like find whatever you're looking for, which like.
- 2:52you're on site though, you could just switch everything back You can for sure.
- 2:55And like, I know you hate packing cubes, but packing cubes can be useful here.
- 3:00Oh, to tell you.
- 3:01I got oh, I got some compression packing cubes.
- 3:05will follow up with a future travel tip tuesday I know.
- 3:09I'm excited and I bet our listeners also can't wait to hear all about that in a few weeks, but.
- 3:15I am terrified though because they're compression that they're going to lead me to pack more because then it's gonna squish it all down.
- 3:21We shall see.
- 3:23Danger, danger.
- 3:25Um, well that is it for this week's Travel Tip Tuesday.
