- 0:04Good morning. This is the Sacramento Brief, your
- 0:08weekday roundup of overnight headlines and what's
- 0:11ahead across the city. I'm Carol. It's Thursday,
- 0:15July 2nd, 2026. Welcome to season two of the
- 0:18Sacramento Brief. Let's get you caught up. A
- 0:22man was hospitalized after an early morning shooting
- 0:24in Sacramento yesterday. Sacramento police responded
- 0:27just before 5 .30 a .m. to reports of a shooting.
- 0:30When officers arrived, they found a man suffering
- 0:33from at least one gunshot wound. He was taken
- 0:36to a nearby hospital with injuries that are not
- 0:38considered life -threatening. Police have not
- 0:41released an exact location of the shooting or
- 0:43any suspect information. The investigation remains
- 0:46ongoing. In City Watch, this new Sacramento County
- 0:50grand jury report says local schools are missing
- 0:54out on opportunities to better prepare students
- 0:56for high demand careers through career and technical
- 1:00training education or CTE. The report highlights
- 1:04programs in health care, construction, agriculture.
- 1:07hospitality, public safety, and skilled trades,
- 1:11giving students hands -on training and direct
- 1:13pathways into the workforce. Despite strong student
- 1:16participation, the grand jury found that CTE
- 1:19programs receive a small share of high school
- 1:22funding. In several of Sacramento County's largest
- 1:25school districts, CTE accounts for roughly 2
- 1:29% or less of the total high school revenue. even
- 1:33though nearly one -quarter to one -third of high
- 1:36school students are enrolled in CTE courses.
- 1:39The report recommends increasing funding, strengthening
- 1:42partnerships with local employers, and community
- 1:45colleges, improving awareness among students
- 1:48and parents, and expanding transportation opportunities
- 1:52so students can access programs outside their
- 1:55home campus. The grand jury says expanding CTE
- 1:59would help more students graduate with real -life,
- 2:03real -world skills, helping them fill critical
- 2:05workforce shortages across the Sacramento region.
