Kern Bridge Reborn in Mankato | Minneapolis News
Mankato, Minnesota just revived its oldest standing roadway truss—the Kern Bridge, built in 1873—now restored and reinstalled over the Blue Earth River as a pedestrian and bike crossing, reconnecting parks and boosting the Minnesota River Trail. Once spanning the Le Sueur River and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the iconic bowstring truss was dismantled in 2020 but has now been rebuilt with new piers and fresh paint, symbolizing Minnesota’s broader effort to preserve historic bridges for future generations.
