- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, welcome to The Daily Writer, where we help writers become authors of their own lives.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: Well, if you write books, you probably hire people like editors, proofreaders, and designers.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: But today's podcast will apply to any relationship where you're the client.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: I just mentioned editors, proofreaders, and designers because those are some of the most common people that we hire as writers.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: But again, today's episode is going to apply to any relationship where you have hired somebody.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: Now, whenever I hire somebody for anything, my goal is to be their favorite client.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: And that means I do things like this.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: I pay their invoice as quickly as I possibly can.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: I ask what they need from me and how I can make their job easier.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: I also work together with them to resolve any problems or conflicts that come up in our working relationship.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: And then I also recommend them to others if I'm happy with their work.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: I mean, look, I get it.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: I know what it's like to work with difficult clients.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: It's really not fun.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: And so my goal when I am the client, so when I'm on the other side of the relationship and I've hired somebody, my goal is to do the exact opposite.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: I want that service provider, no matter who they are, to really have fun working with me and to feel like I have their back and I'm going to make their life easier.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: If you want to be a successful writer, it means working with other people who enhance your work and make you look better.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: And even though they may be providing a service, they are a human being, just like you and me.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: They have feelings, they have emotions, they had deadlines, they have stressors in their life.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: And one of the things that we can do to maintain those relationships is to do everything we can to treat them well.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: And I think one of the most important things is paying your invoice quickly.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: So when somebody sends me an invoice again, I feel like I'm hammering this a little bit, but I try to pay them as fast as I humanly can because I know what it's like to sit there and wait for one of my clients to pay an invoice at times.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: And I don't want people that I hire to stress out over that.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: So do everything that you can to make other people's lives easier whenever you hire them.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: This will go a long, long way toward helping to make your business successful and having really good relationships.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: Hey, thanks so much for listening.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: Keep writing, keep showing up, and I'll see you tomorrow.
