- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good Morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermind, set coach, creative strategist.
- 0:09And also. Happen to be a farmer?
- 0:11This is my chicken coop and I come out here every day to
- 0:14record a podcast to teach distinctions, possibilities, new
- 0:18ways of thinking and just bring some joy into the world.
- 0:21So welcome to the coop and let's start your day off in a
- 0:24fantastic way. Hey everybody, good morning.
- 0:29Not from the chicken coop. I'm going to tell you the story
- 0:32now. So yesterday I was supposed to
- 0:35wake up, go speak, get on a plane, take another plane and be
- 0:40home by last night. Well, that didn't quite go as
- 0:44planned because the airfield where I live was closed because
- 0:48of all the snow in the South and it was something to behold and
- 0:52I'm still not home. So this is a lesson today in
- 0:57being able to regroup and still be able to put yourself
- 1:00together. And let me tell you, it was not
- 1:02easy. I received a message, text
- 1:05message 1st at 4:00 in the morning.
- 1:07My phone went off saying that my flight home was cancelled or at
- 1:11least one leg of it was cancelled.
- 1:13So there was no way I was getting to my final destination.
- 1:16And immediately my brain, my certainty girl kicked into gear
- 1:21and I was so shaken one, because I hadn't slept at all.
- 1:25The hotel I was in was very noisy and there was no way I was
- 1:30falling asleep. And it was just absolute
- 1:32overwhelm. Absolute overwhelm.
- 1:34So here I was, certainty girl driving, overwhelmed driving,
- 1:38anxiety driving, What am I going to do?
- 1:41And I still have to go on stage and speak in front of 250 people
- 1:46in about 3 hours. So this was really a case of
- 1:51putting everything to test that I have taught myself, reminded
- 1:55all of you about all the time go through this whole just ordeal
- 2:01in my head. And at one point I had to
- 2:04actually literally tell myself stop.
- 2:07I got up off the bed. I was like, OK, because my hands
- 2:10were shaking. I was so annoyed and like, OK, I
- 2:13got to figure this out quickly because I just got this alert
- 2:17and if I'm going to try to get home, I've got to rebook a
- 2:20flight. I've got to go through this
- 2:22stuff quickly because other people are going to be doing it
- 2:24too. So immediately in my mind, I'm
- 2:27now in a competition and my brain kicked into gear with that
- 2:31anxiety saying. You got to do it now.
- 2:33You got to do it now. You got to do it now.
- 2:35So First things first, I had to get myself in the right state
- 2:39and I jumped up and I was like, OK, shake your body out.
- 2:43So I was standing there shaking my body out, shaking my hand,
- 2:46shaking my body out. And I was like, OK, what's the
- 2:48one next thing I need to do and who needs to drive?
- 2:52And the first thing was you got to get a rental car.
- 2:56So I was OK, get a rental car. So I called Enterprise
- 3:00immediately. No answer was coming through
- 3:03because we had a problem at the hotel.
- 3:06I immediately went, grabbed my phone.
- 3:07We couldn't even get a signal. The hotel somehow had no
- 3:11Internet at that moment, of course.
- 3:13And I grabbed my phone and I was like, OK, let me go on to the
- 3:16site. And I was able to reserve a car,
- 3:19an SUV. So I was like, OK, when I land
- 3:22wherever I'm going to land, however I'm going to get there.
- 3:25I'm going to have an SUV to get me to drive the rest of the way
- 3:28home. Because those rebooked flights
- 3:30were not, not even, there was no time to figure out when they
- 3:34were going to happen, if they were going to happen.
- 3:36So the first thing I did, reserve a car, got that taken
- 3:39care of, still all shaken. Call the airline and speak to a
- 3:43human. So I call the airline and they
- 3:45say, well, the airfield in your place is closed.
- 3:49We don't know when it's going to reopen.
- 3:51We could try for tomorrow, but there's no chance it will be
- 3:53open by then. I mean, it could be, but it
- 3:56might not be. So I made the decision to take
- 3:59the first leg of my journey, land in Charlotte and drive
- 4:03home. And I was like, OK, so here we
- 4:06are. This is where the story comes up
- 4:08to. I'm now in Charlotte.
- 4:12And fortunately I stopped also panicking.
- 4:16I was like, OK, hotels are going to be tough because everybody in
- 4:19the self has been, you know, affected by this.
- 4:23And I'm hotels are going to be in short order.
- 4:26So immediately I text one of my friends and client who is in
- 4:31Charlotte and I said, hey, can I stay at your house?
- 4:34And she said, yay, yes, of course.
- 4:37So I had a place to stay. So now I've handled the car,
- 4:40I've handled the flight and now I have a place to stay.
- 4:43Now I just have to go through the process of getting to the
- 4:47next thing. So my entire focus all day
- 4:50yesterday and mind you, I'm not slept, It's not been sleep has
- 4:57not been a good thing on this trip.
- 4:58So it was one thing after another with no sleep.
- 5:01And I had to tell myself over and over, OK, just do the one
- 5:05next thing. What's the one next thing?
- 5:07So saying that one phrase to my certainty girl was great because
- 5:11she was like, OK, she could still drive, but she's like one
- 5:14next thing. What's the one next thing?
- 5:16And I just kept doing that, went and spoke, had A at an amazing
- 5:20time at both places. It was great.
- 5:23Very happy and proud of myself of how I handled it and took
- 5:27care of everybody and did what I went to do.
- 5:30Then left, got to the airport, got myself situated, checked
- 5:34again, made sure everything was in line.
- 5:37And now as I record this for you, I'm getting ready to take a
- 5:42shower, get ready, get in the car and start to drive.
- 5:45And I really like take my time getting where I'm going because
- 5:50the roads could be still really bad because my friends, the self
- 5:55of the United States is not equipped to handle snow like
- 5:58this. So while it's all going to be
- 6:00gone by Sunday, maybe Saturday, I mean, we're still stuck with
- 6:05it right now. So I wanted to let you know the
- 6:08story. And the moral of this story is
- 6:10when you can pull yourself together and you can tell
- 6:13yourself what's the one next thing you can make anything
- 6:16happen. And if you're wondering why I'm
- 6:17talking a little quietly, it's because it's really early in the
- 6:20morning and my friend does not wake up early.
- 6:23So I am trying to be very respectful of the space that
- 6:27we're all in. So I hope you guys have a
- 6:29blessed day. Send me love and wishes while
- 6:32I'm driving because I will need them.
- 6:34And I will see you all tomorrow, hopefully from the chicken coop,
- 6:38and we'll have a great time then.
- 6:40All right, take care and have a blessed day.
- 6:42Bye.
