Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: You have to decide you want to be someone who's like, man,
- 0:03Speaker 1: I want everything that God has for me. I want
- 0:06Speaker 1: to win in life. I want to overcome. I want
- 0:08Speaker 1: to be a man of faith. It's not like, oh,
- 0:10Speaker 1: I have to have this outcome. You can choose to
- 0:13Speaker 1: be a price payer. There's plenty of things that you
- 0:15Speaker 1: can't control. However, you get to decide what type of
- 0:19Speaker 1: person you're going to be. Decide to be someone who's
- 0:21Speaker 1: going to be a price payer that you lean into
- 0:23Speaker 1: the adversity. It's impossible. Let me tell you what I believe.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Your weakness is not your technique. Don't think you are.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Know you are.
- 0:37Speaker 2: The Impossible Life Podcast.
- 0:39Speaker 1: You're sitting on a winning lottery ticket. An idea that
- 0:42Speaker 1: is fully formed, fully understood. That sticks. This is the
- 0:48Speaker 1: Impossible Life Podcast. because Nick and I are attempting to
- 0:52Speaker 1: live impossible lives. What we know is that nothing is impossible.
- 0:57Speaker 1: So instead of using impossible as an excuse to not try,
- 1:01Speaker 1: we'll use the pursuit of impossible as an accelerant for greatness.
- 1:06Speaker 1: If something's never been done before, that just means it's unexplored.
- 1:10Speaker 1: If they tell you it's too hard, it's just waiting
- 1:13Speaker 1: to be simplified. Impossible is a default label used by
- 1:17Speaker 1: uncourageous people, unwilling to take a risk. The real truth
- 1:22Speaker 1: is this. The solution to any impossible task starts with
- 1:26Speaker 1: this question. If I had to, what would it take?
- 1:33Speaker 2: Welcome to another episode of the Impossible Life Podcast. I'm
- 1:36Speaker 2: your co-host Nick Surface, and I'm looking across at a
- 1:38Speaker 2: man who was born with a black card for life.
- 1:40Speaker 2: That's right, friends, the former Navy SEAL. Garrett Unklebach, a
- 1:46Speaker 2: man who when pain sends him the bill, he always
- 1:49Speaker 2: adds a tip. No limit to your, I don't know
- 1:52Speaker 2: what people thought when I said the black card, but
- 1:55Speaker 2: I meant like an Amex.
- 1:56Speaker 1: I do, you know, sometimes when things are really difficult,
- 1:59Speaker 1: I do like to add a tip.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Oh, I know. I've done things with you. You're like,
- 2:02Speaker 2: what if we did it this way? I'm like, bro,
- 2:03Speaker 2: that would actually make it harder.
- 2:05Speaker 1: That's kind of the point.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Okay. I feel like when you, you know, when you
- 2:10Speaker 1: add a tip in life on this was really hard
- 2:14Speaker 1: and this was really painful, it's kind of like telling yourself, like,
- 2:17Speaker 1: I could have done more. Yeah. It's like when the
- 2:20Speaker 1: heart is given to you, this is also, you know,
- 2:25Speaker 1: when you're supposed to carry the Roman soldier's gear for
- 2:27Speaker 1: a mile, carry it too. Oh, look at that.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Bringing it back to scripture.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Well done. Okay.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Your next intro is going to be the holiest guy
- 2:34Speaker 2: on the podcast. Yeah. Well played.
- 2:37Speaker 1: All right.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Today, G, I asked you to deliver this one because
- 2:40Speaker 2: this was something that we did separately in a separate arena,
- 2:43Speaker 2: but the mindset of a price payor. I think this is, man,
- 2:48Speaker 2: there's some things that I try to give to people
- 2:50Speaker 2: that I know were like shifts for me. And you
- 2:53Speaker 2: have a big want in life, and it's to be
- 2:54Speaker 2: a lifelong price payer. And I have literally just taken
- 2:57Speaker 2: that exact thing. I tell people this all the time.
- 2:59Speaker 2: There's some things about Garrett that's a unique grace of God.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Don't try and be Garrett. Don't try and be me.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Don't try and be Tony Robbins or your pastor or
- 3:06Speaker 2: anybody that you admire.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Be you.
- 3:08Speaker 2: But you want to try and pull the best out
- 3:10Speaker 2: of people when it's principle-based. And principle-based, if you're confused
- 3:13Speaker 2: about that, is it's based on truth. And so being
- 3:15Speaker 2: a lifelong price payer is a great thing to just
- 3:18Speaker 2: adopt that mindset. Because what it means is it means
- 3:21Speaker 2: you're never going to stop getting better.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Yeah, it's the same way like I'm not trying to
- 3:24Speaker 1: be Tom Brady. I'm not even trying to be a quarterback.
- 3:27Speaker 1: And there's a lot of things in Tom Brady's life
- 3:29Speaker 1: that I would not want for myself. But there are
- 3:31Speaker 1: things about his mentality that I'm like, I so appreciate that.
- 3:33Speaker 1: I want to be that way.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think that's what you do is you
- 3:37Speaker 2: pull the best out of people whenever you're a person
- 3:39Speaker 2: who wants to grow and learn. And so we had
- 3:42Speaker 2: a comment recently on the– I believe it was on
- 3:44Speaker 2: Spotify– And they were saying like, man, I listen to
- 3:47Speaker 2: you guys sometimes and it's like, it's discouraging because I
- 3:50Speaker 2: hold you guys in such high regard and I feel
- 3:51Speaker 2: like I'm never going to get there. And I remember
- 3:53Speaker 2: I went back to the guys because this was, I
- 3:55Speaker 2: can relate to that thought process. Early on when we
- 3:58Speaker 2: started this podcast, you know, I was just here learning
- 4:01Speaker 2: from you and it just happened to be being recorded.
- 4:02Speaker 2: And that's the inception of this podcast. And you would,
- 4:05Speaker 2: you could see more than me and you still can.
- 4:07Speaker 2: But you would say things like, man, you're going to
- 4:09Speaker 2: coach people one day. And we both coach men. privately.
- 4:12Speaker 2: This is not an ad for that. If you are interested,
- 4:14Speaker 2: you can go to the website, but that's not the point.
- 4:15Speaker 2: We both work with men to help them grow and
- 4:17Speaker 2: accelerate results. And you told me I'll coach with people.
- 4:20Speaker 2: I was like, I don't think so, man. Like in
- 4:22Speaker 2: my head, I was like, I don't see it. Like
- 4:24Speaker 2: who would, who would want to coach with me? I
- 4:27Speaker 2: don't really feel like I have a lot to offer.
- 4:28Speaker 2: That was my honest thought process. And so then we
- 4:31Speaker 2: would go on and like, I remember there would be
- 4:33Speaker 2: points where you would just be like, boom, boom, boom,
- 4:35Speaker 2: dropping bombs. And I'm like, Hey, I got another cool joke.
- 4:38Speaker 2: I just, I just, you know what I mean? I
- 4:39Speaker 2: just felt like kind of an idiot. And I remember
- 4:41Speaker 2: I had to like, I would sit there and I'd
- 4:43Speaker 2: be like, man, and I remember I would be just,
- 4:44Speaker 2: you know, just thinking about it. And I feel like
- 4:46Speaker 2: the Holy spirit reminded me, like you're sat across from
- 4:48Speaker 2: a guy who grew up with two phenomenal parents in
- 4:51Speaker 2: a leadership environment with a like superhuman pastor who grew,
- 4:54Speaker 2: who brought you up in a, in a, a growth leadership,
- 4:57Speaker 2: biblical culture. And then as if that wasn't enough, you
- 5:00Speaker 2: then got sent off to the most elite unit in
- 5:02Speaker 2: the world and the Navy seals and got trained by
- 5:04Speaker 2: them for six years. And what you've told me is
- 5:06Speaker 2: you got like 25 years of training compressed in six.
- 5:09Speaker 2: And so you, I'm saying this to encourage people because
- 5:12Speaker 2: sometimes you can look across at somebody, I'm going to
- 5:14Speaker 2: use you as the example, and be like, man, how
- 5:17Speaker 2: do I get like that? Well, don't ask how you
- 5:19Speaker 2: get like that. Ask the price that they paid to
- 5:22Speaker 2: get there, and that'll give you a lot more of
- 5:24Speaker 2: the understanding.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Yeah, if you're not familiar with that, like we call
- 5:27Speaker 1: it being a price payer, if you're not familiar with
- 5:29Speaker 1: that term, this comes back to something my father always
- 5:33Speaker 1: said to me, you can have anything you want if
- 5:35Speaker 1: you're willing to pay the price.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 5:37Speaker 1: So if you want to get what you want, you've
- 5:39Speaker 1: got to be a price payer. You've got to decide
- 5:40Speaker 1: what you're willing to pay the price. And so that's
- 5:43Speaker 1: what we're talking about today is what it means to
- 5:45Speaker 1: be a price payer. And I'll say this. I think
- 5:49Speaker 1: every person needs to come to the conclusion, and until
- 5:54Speaker 1: you do this, you're going to be disappointed at the
- 5:56Speaker 1: way life works. You need to come to the conclusion
- 5:58Speaker 1: that life is going to require me to pay a price.
- 6:03Speaker 1: There's a stoic thought. I don't remember who said it,
- 6:05Speaker 1: but there's a stoic thought that you suffer twice when
- 6:10Speaker 1: you believe that hardship shouldn't be happening.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Oh man, that's so good. Right.
- 6:14Speaker 1: I'm not saying that perfectly, but it's something like that.
- 6:16Speaker 1: You suffer twice when you believe hardship shouldn't be happening
- 6:18Speaker 1: because the first suffering is like you just running from
- 6:21Speaker 1: it and wishing it wouldn't happen. And then you got
- 6:23Speaker 1: to actually deal with it. Yeah. And this is life.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Like you, I, suffering sucks. Okay. Like I have a,
- 6:31Speaker 1: I hunt. Some people don't like that. I don't care.
- 6:35Speaker 1: But in hunting, Like, I really aim to... Like, I
- 6:40Speaker 1: hate to see suffering. I've seen animals suffer, and I
- 6:42Speaker 1: don't like it. I don't believe... I don't want to
- 6:44Speaker 1: make people suffer. I do believe that... I do believe
- 6:48Speaker 1: you can kill animals, and this is also biblical. We've
- 6:51Speaker 1: got into this, won't get into this podcast today, but
- 6:53Speaker 1: there's a right time that you would kill a person
- 6:54Speaker 1: as well. But I don't think there's any time that
- 6:57Speaker 1: you would make someone suffer.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Right.
- 6:59Speaker 1: I think that's wrong. Like, and if you've ever seen
- 7:03Speaker 1: someone suffer... I remember watching an older person suffer at
- 7:07Speaker 1: the end of their life just as they were going
- 7:09Speaker 1: through the pain of cancer. I don't want to see
- 7:11Speaker 1: anybody go through that. I think you also have the
- 7:13Speaker 1: ability to live a life where we've talked, we did
- 7:17Speaker 1: an episode on this. I remember when we did this
- 7:19Speaker 1: because I preached a message on it many years ago
- 7:22Speaker 1: about the difference between apatheia and autarkus. Apatheia is the
- 7:25Speaker 1: Greek term, which means without suffering. And you can choose
- 7:29Speaker 1: to not suffer. Suffering is a perspective. Suffering is a
- 7:33Speaker 1: way of being. And then where Paul says, and the
- 7:36Speaker 1: point of that message was I was comparing that Paul
- 7:39Speaker 1: knew what apatheia was and believed in something that was greater,
- 7:42Speaker 1: which is the Greek word autarkus, where Paul says, I've
- 7:45Speaker 1: learned the secret to be content in any circumstance. The
- 7:49Speaker 1: word content there is autarkus, which means an inner self-sufficiency
- 7:53Speaker 1: through Christ. But I say all of this to say,
- 7:55Speaker 1: that everyone is going to have to face suffering, that
- 7:58Speaker 1: doesn't mean that you have to suffer. You're going to
- 8:01Speaker 1: face circumstances in life that, man, this is going to
- 8:04Speaker 1: be terrible. And the same way, like if I drag
- 8:07Speaker 1: your butt in the gym and make you work out,
- 8:09Speaker 1: you're going to cry about it.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Right.
- 8:11Speaker 1: And there are other people that would take the same
- 8:13Speaker 1: beat down that I would give to you and make
- 8:15Speaker 1: you cry. There are other people that would pay money
- 8:18Speaker 1: for that.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Yeah. Right?
- 8:19Speaker 1: Because they want it.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:20Speaker 1: We're going to do the same workout. right? But one
- 8:22Speaker 1: person really wants it and they're gonna get something different
- 8:24Speaker 1: out of it.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Why?
- 8:25Speaker 1: Because they see the value in it. And so the
- 8:27Speaker 1: same way, you have to decide you wanna be someone
- 8:30Speaker 1: who's like, man, I want everything that God has for me.
- 8:32Speaker 1: I wanna win in life. I wanna overcome. I wanna
- 8:35Speaker 1: be a man of faith. It's not like, oh, I
- 8:38Speaker 1: have to have this outcome. You can choose to be
- 8:40Speaker 1: a price pair. There's a lot of things you can't control.
- 8:43Speaker 1: We talked about some of this on the episode a
- 8:45Speaker 1: week ago. There's plenty of things that you can't control
- 8:49Speaker 1: and However, you get to decide what type of person
- 8:52Speaker 1: you're going to be. Decide to be someone who's going
- 8:54Speaker 1: to be a price payer that you lean into the adversity.
- 8:56Speaker 1: So that's what we're going to talk about today.
- 8:58Speaker 2: And I really wanted people to grasp this because there's
- 9:00Speaker 2: been a few moments in my own transformation where they've
- 9:02Speaker 2: been really key lessons. And this was one of them
- 9:05Speaker 2: because I was very much like I was like prone
- 9:08Speaker 2: to growth hacking, right? Like what's the quickest way to
- 9:10Speaker 2: get authority? Well, you get like get yourself to be
- 9:12Speaker 2: an Amazon number one bestseller and like go to this
- 9:15Speaker 2: conference and like now you're an expert. No, you're not.
- 9:17Speaker 2: You've just put a facade up and some people will
- 9:20Speaker 2: believe you. Like to actually become who God's made you
- 9:23Speaker 2: to be, like you said, this mindset of I'm just
- 9:26Speaker 2: going to keep paying the price and coming back removes
- 9:28Speaker 2: the timeframe.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Everything that's special takes time.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Okay. So even God, when he could have, took the
- 9:34Speaker 1: time to make all of earth and everything that's on it.
- 9:39Speaker 1: When you look at people who've like mastered something and
- 9:41Speaker 1: is mesmerizing, one of the things that I really appreciate,
- 9:44Speaker 1: but I've just, you know, intentionally chosen.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Okay.
- 9:47Speaker 1: I'm not, even though I really liked those things, that's
- 9:49Speaker 1: not what I'm going to pursue. I really, uh, appreciate
- 9:51Speaker 1: not just magicians, but sleight of hand.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Yes.
- 9:54Speaker 1: I really appreciate sleight of hand. You can learn sleight
- 9:57Speaker 1: of hand in an hour to get to the sleight
- 9:59Speaker 1: of hand that, like, mesmerizes people, it takes a decade.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Yeah. Because they're working the people. They're not just working
- 10:05Speaker 2: the trick.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Well, yeah, you've become so good at the craft.
- 10:08Speaker 2: Yes.
- 10:08Speaker 1: It's the same way, like, I'm getting to a place
- 10:11Speaker 1: at this point in my life where I've done so
- 10:12Speaker 1: much public speaking. The last thing I'm thinking about up
- 10:15Speaker 1: there is like, man, I hope I remember my notes. Yeah.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:17Speaker 1: No kidding.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Right.
- 10:18Speaker 1: I'm looking everyone in the eye and I'm engaging with
- 10:20Speaker 1: my audience. I'm not so much thinking about my craft,
- 10:22Speaker 1: but I'm thinking about my impact.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Right.
- 10:25Speaker 1: People who are great at sleight of hand, they've done
- 10:26Speaker 1: the same thing. They can do their work thoughtlessly and
- 10:30Speaker 1: it is the ability to engage with a person. Yeah.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Well, I've seen you with an AR and that's where
- 10:34Speaker 2: like you've truly been in the elite of the elite.
- 10:37Speaker 2: And it's so crazy when you see you do something
- 10:40Speaker 2: because it looks very effortless and And I've tried to
- 10:42Speaker 2: done the same thing and it's not effortless. You're like, wait,
- 10:45Speaker 2: what was that? And you're like, no, dude, you just
- 10:47Speaker 2: give a simple point. And I'm like, I didn't even
- 10:48Speaker 2: notice you were doing that. And it's, I mean, if
- 10:51Speaker 2: you've ever experienced being with somebody who's like really elite
- 10:53Speaker 2: at something, it's a mind blower. And so the point
- 10:56Speaker 2: we're making, God's made you to be great. We've said
- 10:58Speaker 2: on this podcast so many times, every person on here,
- 11:01Speaker 2: this is not a podcast for the come just be
- 11:03Speaker 2: a little bit better. Or, you know, hey, here, Jesus,
- 11:05Speaker 2: Jesus is a nice guy. This is like, come be
- 11:08Speaker 2: all God's made you to be. Run your race well,
- 11:11Speaker 2: advance the kingdom, and God's going to open up your
- 11:13Speaker 2: eyes to see just what's possible. He's going to open
- 11:15Speaker 2: your eyes up to the hope that he's called you.
- 11:17Speaker 1: And just a nugget really quick for those of you
- 11:20Speaker 1: who are new or newer, because there's always a few
- 11:22Speaker 1: of you who are listening. Some of you have been
- 11:23Speaker 1: with us for a while. You're years into making this change.
- 11:26Speaker 1: By the way, you're not going to transform in five minutes, okay?
- 11:29Speaker 1: So hang out, settle in, listen to as many episodes
- 11:32Speaker 1: as you can, and start doing the work. But I
- 11:35Speaker 1: just want to encourage you, those of you, it doesn't
- 11:37Speaker 1: matter if you're 50 years old or if you're 55
- 11:39Speaker 1: years old and you're just now getting some of this
- 11:41Speaker 1: way of thinking, you can become a price payer today.
- 11:44Speaker 1: And we've talked about this before, if you haven't listened
- 11:47Speaker 1: to those episodes before, as it relates to purpose. Purpose
- 11:49Speaker 1: is not a tightrope that you fell off and you
- 11:51Speaker 1: missed it and those doors are always closed. And that's
- 11:53Speaker 1: where people get stuck in pursuing their purpose. They look
- 11:56Speaker 1: at two doors in front of them and they're like, God,
- 11:58Speaker 1: which do I choose, A or B? Because if you
- 12:00Speaker 1: wanted me to go through door A and I go
- 12:02Speaker 1: through door B, I've ruined my purpose for the rest
- 12:03Speaker 1: of my life.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Right.
- 12:04Speaker 1: That is not the way that it works. God can
- 12:06Speaker 1: do something with you at any time.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Yeah, any age. Like you always say, G, if there's
- 12:12Speaker 2: breath in your lungs, that means that God still has
- 12:13Speaker 2: a plan for your life. And that's exactly right. Okay,
- 12:16Speaker 2: so the point we're making, there is a price, right?
- 12:19Speaker 2: And there is a difference between wanting the result and
- 12:22Speaker 2: being willing to pay the price because everybody wants to
- 12:24Speaker 2: be transformed and to be out there doing something. whatever
- 12:27Speaker 2: they think God's called them to be, and whatever idealized
- 12:29Speaker 2: life you have. But as the great philosophizer Ronnie Coleman
- 12:33Speaker 2: once said, that's Ronnie Coleman, everybody want to be a bodybuilder,
- 12:36Speaker 2: but nobody want to lift no heavy weight. And that
- 12:40Speaker 2: is exactly it. You want the muscles, you want the mountain,
- 12:43Speaker 2: but you don't want the climb.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Ronnie Coleman could lift some serious weight. That is the thing.
- 12:47Speaker 1: A lot of people tell me, and I'm never discouraging
- 12:51Speaker 1: to people about this, I've paid a great price to
- 12:54Speaker 1: get to where I am at the age that I am.
- 12:56Speaker 1: People like Ronnie Coleman paid a great price to get
- 12:58Speaker 1: to where they are at the age that they are.
- 13:00Speaker 1: And there's a price that goes along with that. You
- 13:02Speaker 1: got to think about when you want the fruit that
- 13:04Speaker 1: somebody has, do you want to go through the pruning
- 13:06Speaker 1: that they've been through? Everybody wants the strength. They want
- 13:09Speaker 1: the power. Do you want the resistance, the sweat, the
- 13:12Speaker 1: blood that it takes to develop that type of strength?
- 13:15Speaker 1: Everybody wants influence. They want fame. Do you want the
- 13:18Speaker 1: responsibility and the work that comes with it? You want
- 13:22Speaker 1: God's purpose for your life? You've got to decide, do
- 13:25Speaker 1: I want to go through the process and pay the price?
- 13:27Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, I mean, we said on our last podcast, well,
- 13:29Speaker 2: I should say the two podcasts go last week on
- 13:32Speaker 2: the Monday, you talked about it. Like when you pay
- 13:34Speaker 2: the price, that's you becoming the person that God needs
- 13:37Speaker 2: you to be in order to run the race that
- 13:39Speaker 2: he has for you.
- 13:41Speaker 1: And paying your price is biblical, okay? We do not
- 13:46Speaker 1: pay the price for salvation. Jesus Christ paid the price
- 13:49Speaker 1: for all of that. But also, what did he say?
- 13:52Speaker 1: To pick up your cross and follow him. And he said,
- 13:54Speaker 1: to follow me will cost you all that you have.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Nobody wants this part of the message, G. This is
- 14:00Speaker 2: just the harsh truth. Jesus said very difficult things to people.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Yeah. The average Christianity today is Jesus went on the cross.
- 14:08Speaker 1: I got baptized. Let me put down the cross. I
- 14:11Speaker 1: don't want to carry that. And you literally, you're the
- 14:15Speaker 1: same as a person who bought a book and put
- 14:17Speaker 1: it on their shelf. And you thought that having bought
- 14:19Speaker 1: the book was the equivalent of... of capturing the book
- 14:22Speaker 1: and doing what it says. And how many times have
- 14:25Speaker 1: you done that in your life where you're like, oh man,
- 14:27Speaker 1: what a great message. I respect that person. I'll buy
- 14:29Speaker 1: the book. And you never read it and you left
- 14:31Speaker 1: it on your shelf. But you think because you bought
- 14:33Speaker 1: the book that you've captured the value out of it.
- 14:35Speaker 1: You've not captured the value of the relationship that God
- 14:39Speaker 1: wants to have with you and what he wants to
- 14:40Speaker 1: do with your life. If all you've ever done is
- 14:42Speaker 1: receive Christ and been baptized, but refuse to pay the
- 14:45Speaker 1: price of going through a transformation process.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think that that's where people can take
- 14:51Speaker 2: this the wrong way and they can say like, oh,
- 14:52Speaker 2: you're harsh or you're a works mentality, is when you
- 14:55Speaker 2: start realizing, you go, look, it's an all or nothing thing.
- 14:58Speaker 2: It's not like, well, I went 50% of the way
- 15:00Speaker 2: with Christ and that's enough or I did a little
- 15:02Speaker 2: bit of this. You were set apart. The climate that
- 15:06Speaker 2: Jesus came into, once you accepted that Jesus died on
- 15:09Speaker 2: the cross and he was the Messiah, the Roman Empire
- 15:12Speaker 2: in the early years of the church was trying to
- 15:13Speaker 2: kill it. There was, nobody was just going, well, yeah,
- 15:16Speaker 2: I kind of believe in that Jesus guy. And like,
- 15:18Speaker 2: I don't really go to meetings, but like I do
- 15:19Speaker 2: it my way. No, no. You were like all or nothing.
- 15:23Speaker 1: You were called over a hundred years of martyrdom.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Yeah. Like, and brutal martyrdom. Like if they suspected that
- 15:28Speaker 2: you were a Christian, they could just go in and
- 15:29Speaker 2: murder you. There was nobody going like, well, you can
- 15:31Speaker 2: appeal to the, no, there's no appeal to the court.
- 15:33Speaker 2: You're a captured prisoner in the Roman empire. You have
- 15:35Speaker 2: no rights here. You're not a Roman citizen. And like,
- 15:37Speaker 2: it's hard for us to grasp. what it costs to
- 15:40Speaker 2: do that. And it wasn't like that was just unique
- 15:42Speaker 2: for that time. There is a cost. And this is
- 15:44Speaker 2: Luke 14, 24 through 33. And this is kind of
- 15:47Speaker 2: a brutal scripture. This is Jesus giving the end of
- 15:50Speaker 2: a parable. And he says, for I tell you, none
- 15:51Speaker 2: of those men who were invited shall taste my banquet.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Now great crowds accompanied him. All the crowds come, gee.
- 15:57Speaker 2: This is what they want. They came to see the guy.
- 15:59Speaker 2: He's going to heal. He's going to feed them with bread.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Everybody likes miracle Jesus.
- 16:03Speaker 2: And he turned to them and said, If anyone comes
- 16:05Speaker 2: to me and does not hate his own father and
- 16:07Speaker 2: mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes,
- 16:10Speaker 2: and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after
- 16:16Speaker 2: me cannot be my disciple. For which of you, desiring
- 16:19Speaker 2: to build a tower, does not first sit down and
- 16:21Speaker 2: count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? Otherwise,
- 16:24Speaker 2: when he has laid a foundation and is not able
- 16:26Speaker 2: to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying,
- 16:29Speaker 2: This man began to build and was not able to finish.
- 16:32Speaker 2: Or what king going out to encounter another king in
- 16:34Speaker 2: war will not sit down first and deliberate whether he
- 16:37Speaker 2: is able with 10,000 to meet him who comes against
- 16:39Speaker 2: him with 20,000? And if not, while the other is
- 16:42Speaker 2: yet a great way off, he sends a delegation and
- 16:44Speaker 2: asks for terms of peace. So therefore, anyone of you
- 16:47Speaker 2: who does not renounce all that he has cannot be
- 16:50Speaker 2: my disciple.
- 16:51Speaker 1: There is a price to the path.
- 16:54Speaker 2: Man.
- 16:55Speaker 1: That's what Jesus says here. He says it's going to
- 16:57Speaker 1: cost you something. In fact, it's going to cost you everything, right?
- 17:01Speaker 1: You've got to be a price payer. You've got to decide,
- 17:03Speaker 1: do I really want to pay the price of being
- 17:05Speaker 1: a follower of Christ?
- 17:07Speaker 2: Yeah, let me ask you a question, man, because I
- 17:09Speaker 2: always like to just, on the spot, promise for Garrett's brain.
- 17:14Speaker 2: I think so much we've leaned on a grace message,
- 17:17Speaker 2: because it is by grace that we've been saved, right?
- 17:19Speaker 2: And so we didn't have to pay a price that
- 17:21Speaker 2: Jesus did. How do you balance something like that where
- 17:24Speaker 2: he's Jesus is very clearly saying, being my disciple will
- 17:27Speaker 2: cost you everything. And how do you balance that with
- 17:30Speaker 2: like an understanding of.
- 17:32Speaker 1: Yeah, this is understanding that two things are true at
- 17:34Speaker 1: the same time. Okay. That both God is sovereign, owns
- 17:37Speaker 1: it all, control of it all, and man's responsible. That
- 17:41Speaker 1: both love and law exist at the same time, right?
- 17:44Speaker 1: God is law, there's universal law, there's principles, there's God's law,
- 17:48Speaker 1: that the wages of sin equals death. But by God's love,
- 17:52Speaker 1: by Christ's blood... We're not subject to that. So these
- 17:55Speaker 1: things exist at the same time. And that, yes, we
- 17:57Speaker 1: were entirely saved by grace, but the purpose of our
- 18:00Speaker 1: life was not to be saved. Jesus didn't put us
- 18:03Speaker 1: on the earth so that there could be sin, and
- 18:05Speaker 1: then he could come down and save us and us
- 18:08Speaker 1: just be saved. That's not why he created us. He
- 18:10Speaker 1: created us to have a relationship with him that we
- 18:12Speaker 1: would grow and we would expand his glory, right? And
- 18:15Speaker 1: God is giving us the opportunity to do that. What
- 18:18Speaker 1: do you think your life is for if you think
- 18:20Speaker 1: it was just for you to be saved? Well, you're
- 18:23Speaker 1: not just some token to God. He's invited you into
- 18:26Speaker 1: a process of being a part of his kingdom and
- 18:28Speaker 1: be a part of expanding his glory. So what does
- 18:30Speaker 1: that mean? You've got a job to do. There's work
- 18:31Speaker 1: for you to do. It's exactly why God created Adam
- 18:33Speaker 1: and put him in the garden. He said, work it
- 18:35Speaker 1: and keep it. I've created this. You make it better. Yeah.
- 18:38Speaker 2: And that flies in the face because I do think there.
- 18:40Speaker 1: And you could say, well, that sounds ridiculous that God
- 18:42Speaker 1: would say to you, make it better. What did Jesus
- 18:43Speaker 1: say to his disciples right before he died? You'll do
- 18:46Speaker 1: even greater things than I did. Maybe you've misunderstood or
- 18:49Speaker 1: maybe you've misinterpreted Maybe you've misrepresented and saw a lot
- 18:53Speaker 1: less in yourself than really what God saw in you.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Man.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Wow.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Isn't that like a wake-up call to think that God's
- 18:58Speaker 2: sitting there going like, no, I made you to do this.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Don't ask me. I mean, how many times do you
- 19:02Speaker 2: do that with your kids? And how much better of
- 19:04Speaker 2: a father is God than us?
- 19:05Speaker 1: Can you do this for me? No.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Yeah. I say it all the time. I'm like, no,
- 19:09Speaker 2: you can do that for yourself. Why do we do that?
- 19:12Speaker 2: Because we know that if they constantly depend on us,
- 19:14Speaker 2: they're going to be helpless. And that's not the kids
- 19:15Speaker 2: that we're raising. Now, that's us. We're not even like
- 19:18Speaker 2: worms compared to God. So how much greater do you
- 19:20Speaker 2: think he is when he looks and goes, I know
- 19:22Speaker 2: what's inside you, son?
- 19:23Speaker 1: Think about Joseph praying to get out of prison, Paul
- 19:26Speaker 1: praying to get out of prison. Paul never once prayed
- 19:28Speaker 1: to get out of prison. From prison, he was encouraging
- 19:31Speaker 1: other people. Crazy. And if they had prayed for that,
- 19:35Speaker 1: God would have said, no, I have you there for
- 19:37Speaker 1: a reason.
- 19:38Speaker 2: Yeah, man. And that's the autarkist thought process right there,
- 19:42Speaker 2: is that you can be content from inside. So, G,
- 19:45Speaker 2: I want to get into what it takes to be
- 19:46Speaker 2: a price payer, because I think that this will just
- 19:48Speaker 2: be such a blessing. But I think when you're looking
- 19:50Speaker 2: at where you want, because I hope that every person
- 19:53Speaker 2: who listens to this is stirred with the dreams and
- 19:55Speaker 2: to understand that God's given them desires in their heart
- 19:57Speaker 2: and that he has great plans for their life. This
- 19:59Speaker 2: is not the Be Above Average podcast, and it's not
- 20:02Speaker 2: even about the podcast. God is not a, hey, I
- 20:05Speaker 2: want you to be slightly better than average. it's like
- 20:07Speaker 2: he called you to be great, to be set apart,
- 20:09Speaker 2: to be holy, which means to be rightly used by God.
- 20:11Speaker 1: That's right.
- 20:12Speaker 2: And so if that's what he's called you to be,
- 20:13Speaker 2: and he says, be holy for I am holy, I've
- 20:15Speaker 2: called you a holy nation, a royal priesthood, like understand
- 20:18Speaker 2: God's speaking great things into you.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Christianity is not a behavioral improvement program. Yes.
- 20:22Speaker 2: So here's the question to ask, because we all want,
- 20:25Speaker 2: like we all want what the idea of that is,
- 20:27Speaker 2: but I got to quote our man.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Oh, good gong. Yes.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Thank you. PK, don't ask what you'd have to do
- 20:33Speaker 2: to get something. Ask who you'd have to become. And
- 20:37Speaker 2: that is such a different question. Because now I'm not
- 20:41Speaker 2: going like, how do I get from A to B?
- 20:43Speaker 2: I'm like, what needs to change in myself? Oh, man.
- 20:46Speaker 2: What kind of person do I have to be to
- 20:48Speaker 2: have a great marriage?
- 20:48Speaker 1: This is the level two version of the Chris Gardner question,
- 20:52Speaker 1: where he went to the man with the Ferrari and said,
- 20:54Speaker 1: what did you do to get that? It's not that
- 20:56Speaker 1: that's a wrong question. The better question is, who do
- 20:58Speaker 1: I have to become to get that?
- 20:59Speaker 2: Right.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Because you could rob a bank and get a Ferrari.
- 21:01Speaker 1: You're going to get to keep it. Well, the things
- 21:03Speaker 1: that you go through, I mean, take you to another level.
- 21:08Speaker 1: There's a lot of people that are an example of this,
- 21:11Speaker 1: but the one that I think of, because I've heard
- 21:13Speaker 1: him say it so many times, is Robert Kiyosaki, author
- 21:16Speaker 1: of Rich Dad, Poor Dad, talks about in real estate,
- 21:19Speaker 1: you know, he's like, I have hundreds of millions of
- 21:21Speaker 1: dollars in real estate now, and it's taken me decades
- 21:24Speaker 1: to get there, but if I lost it all, I
- 21:26Speaker 1: could rebuild it within a few years. It took me
- 21:28Speaker 1: decades to get here, But I could rebuild it within
- 21:31Speaker 1: a few years because of what it's done to me. Like,
- 21:33Speaker 1: I know how this works now.
- 21:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:35Speaker 1: And that's really the point of, this is so much the,
- 21:38Speaker 1: not that that's what this podcast is about, but it's
- 21:40Speaker 1: generally an interest for many of our listeners is how
- 21:42Speaker 1: to be financially successful.
- 21:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:44Speaker 1: So much of, and I'm learning great lessons all the
- 21:47Speaker 1: time by the people I spend time with.
- 21:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:49Speaker 1: So much of being financially successful. It's not like, well,
- 21:51Speaker 1: I stacked up enough money. It's like, no, you learned
- 21:53Speaker 1: how to play the game. Yeah.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Yeah. And I hope that excites, like, I think about
- 21:57Speaker 2: getting older. There's no part of me that's like, oh,
- 21:59Speaker 2: that's going to suck. I'm like, dude, just think what
- 22:01Speaker 2: I'm going to know when I'm in my 60s and 70s. Like,
- 22:03Speaker 2: I actually get excited about that because I feel like
- 22:05Speaker 2: my mind will be on a whole new level. Body's
- 22:07Speaker 2: still going to be jacked.
- 22:09Speaker 1: One of my newer friends that I was talking with
- 22:11Speaker 1: the other day, he's 20 years into his process, so
- 22:15Speaker 1: he's been learning how to play the game for a
- 22:16Speaker 1: long time. Wow. And he was telling me how he's
- 22:18Speaker 1: made $ 14 million this year. Wow. And, like, I was
- 22:21Speaker 1: just like, okay. I just, as soon as he said that,
- 22:25Speaker 1: I was just like, okay, turn on my, pull out
- 22:27Speaker 1: the wisdom here. And so much of it, like the
- 22:31Speaker 1: stuff that he does actually seems simple, but it's who
- 22:34Speaker 1: he spent decades becoming to be the person who can
- 22:37Speaker 1: apply that much value in such a short amount of time.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Don't you always find that's the way? That's what I
- 22:41Speaker 2: think is so amazing about wisdom. When you finally uncover it,
- 22:44Speaker 2: you're like, well, of course. And it's almost disappointing because
- 22:47Speaker 2: you want it to be some secret that like is
- 22:49Speaker 2: like this magic bullet pill and like silver bullet. And
- 22:52Speaker 2: you find it and.
- 22:52Speaker 1: You're like, oh. Well, there's a good example of that
- 22:54Speaker 1: is there's like an anecdote that floats around on LinkedIn.
- 22:58Speaker 1: And it's just– I'll do a bad job of summarizing it,
- 23:00Speaker 1: but you'll get the point of– This, you know, it's
- 23:05Speaker 1: an anecdote. This company is having a problem with an
- 23:08Speaker 1: engine and it can't fix it. And it, you know,
- 23:10Speaker 1: pays these people, you know, $ 50, 000. They come in and
- 23:13Speaker 1: do an eight-week thing and they can't fix it. And
- 23:15Speaker 1: they pay this company half a million dollars to come
- 23:17Speaker 1: in and, you know, they spend, they do a 12-week
- 23:20Speaker 1: program with 30 people and they can't fix it. And
- 23:23Speaker 1: then they finally call this one guy and he comes
- 23:25Speaker 1: in and he fixes it in five minutes. and charges
- 23:28Speaker 1: them $ 2 million. And they're like, all you did is
- 23:30Speaker 1: you brought in a hammer, and we saw you only
- 23:33Speaker 1: worked for about 30 minutes. Why is the bill $ 2 million?
- 23:34Speaker 1: He said, because of the time it took me to
- 23:36Speaker 1: learn how to do this.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Yeah, there you go, man.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I like that.
- 23:41Speaker 2: All right, G, well, we all want to be $ 2
- 23:43Speaker 2: million hammer men, so what does it take to be
- 23:46Speaker 2: a price payer, man?
- 23:47Speaker 1: Yes, that's what we're going to talk about today, what
- 23:48Speaker 1: it takes to be a price payer. These are, this
- 23:51Speaker 1: is three thoughts, three understandings that I want to give
- 23:54Speaker 1: you to help you become this type of person. you have,
- 23:57Speaker 1: you know, before I get into it, you just have
- 23:59Speaker 1: to decide this is who I want to be.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:01Speaker 1: And like, I can tell you, I made this decision
- 24:04Speaker 1: early in life, but I haven't just made it one time. Yeah.
- 24:08Speaker 1: You're going to face trial after trial after trial. And
- 24:12Speaker 1: this is the, it's just like having a life, living
- 24:14Speaker 1: a life of faith. There's new tests. And just because
- 24:18Speaker 1: you pass the last test doesn't mean you're going to
- 24:19Speaker 1: pass the next one.
- 24:20Speaker 2: Right.
- 24:21Speaker 1: So three thoughts here today on being a price pair.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Number one, Price payers decide what is worth it. You
- 24:29Speaker 1: cannot become a price payer until you know what you value.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Think about that. Like, I want to pay the price. Well,
- 24:35Speaker 1: what are you willing to pay the price for? You
- 24:37Speaker 1: got to know what you value. I think about what
- 24:39Speaker 1: I've been through so far in my life. And I
- 24:43Speaker 1: thought about the life that I wanted to have. I
- 24:45Speaker 1: thought about who I wanted to be. I thought about
- 24:47Speaker 1: where I wanted to be at the end of my life.
- 24:49Speaker 1: And I look at all the pain, all the struggle,
- 24:52Speaker 1: the challenges that I've been through in my life. And
- 24:54Speaker 1: the only reason I've gone through those things is because
- 24:56Speaker 1: of what I valued on the other side of that.
- 24:58Speaker 1: You're not gonna sacrifice for something that you don't value.
- 25:02Speaker 1: And this is Matthew chapter 13, verse 44. Jesus tells
- 25:05Speaker 1: this story. He says, the kingdom of heaven, and just
- 25:10Speaker 1: nod here, go back and listen to our episode on kingdom.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Nick will pull up that note. If you've never listened
- 25:15Speaker 1: to this and you are a studier of scripture, you
- 25:18Speaker 1: need to understand where the difference between the Bible talks
- 25:21Speaker 1: about heaven and the Bible talks about heavens, plural. There's
- 25:24Speaker 1: two different things. Go back and listen to the kingdom episode.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Episode 108. Episode 108. It's a great one. I actually want...
- 25:30Speaker 1: I think I'm gonna put it in my work this
- 25:32Speaker 1: week to go back and listen to that episode. It
- 25:33Speaker 1: was a great one.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Hey, way to pay your price.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Okay, Matthew chapter 13, verse 44. The kingdom of heaven
- 25:39Speaker 1: is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man
- 25:43Speaker 1: found it, he hid it again, and then in his
- 25:47Speaker 1: joy went and sold all he had and bought the field. Notice...
- 25:53Speaker 1: he wasn't miserable about the sacrifice. No kidding. He understood
- 25:57Speaker 1: the value of what he was getting. This is the
- 26:00Speaker 1: price payer mindset. When the value is clear, the price
- 26:04Speaker 1: becomes easier to understand. You want to be a great
- 26:07Speaker 1: price payer, be really good. And you've talked about this before.
- 26:12Speaker 1: You're a great noticer. You're a learner. That's one of
- 26:14Speaker 1: your strengths. And so you pick like, oh, that must
- 26:17Speaker 1: be valuable. If you want to learn how to you know,
- 26:21Speaker 1: have growth in life. You want to learn how to
- 26:23Speaker 1: take your next steps, learn how to see value. If
- 26:26Speaker 1: you can't see value, not only are you never going
- 26:28Speaker 1: to sacrifice, you won't even find the right thing to
- 26:29Speaker 1: sacrifice for.
- 26:30Speaker 2: Yeah, man, that I wish I could just, if I
- 26:34Speaker 2: mentally highlight what Garrett just said, you and I talk
- 26:37Speaker 2: about this, the way I always put it is I go,
- 26:38Speaker 2: we as human beings are horrible at knowing what's good
- 26:40Speaker 2: for us, right? We have all the information in the
- 26:42Speaker 2: world about fitness, nutrition. We in here in America, okay.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Our FDA is not great, but we have so much
- 26:48Speaker 2: stuff that you can find. And we have 600,000 people
- 26:50Speaker 2: a year die of heart disease, cardiovascular failure, heart attacks
- 26:54Speaker 2: over and over again. We do not know what's good
- 26:57Speaker 2: for us. We're horrible at assessing value. I use that
- 26:59Speaker 2: as like a small example because there's things out there
- 27:02Speaker 2: we've experienced. You put a great reel on social media,
- 27:04Speaker 2: for example, that's like talking some truth that can change
- 27:07Speaker 2: someone's life. A thousand views. You put out some stupid thing,
- 27:11Speaker 2: which is like a dumb meme making fun of something
- 27:13Speaker 2: that adds no value. Oh, it blew up.
- 27:15Speaker 1: That's not a reflection of you. It's a reflection of
- 27:17Speaker 1: the audience. You see creators all the time, like, pour
- 27:20Speaker 1: years into their channel, and then they blow up over some, like,
- 27:23Speaker 1: dumb video that's abstract to the main theme of their content.
- 27:29Speaker 2: Yeah, but because what you said, and I'm using those as, like,
- 27:31Speaker 2: anecdotal examples, but what this looks like in practicality, and
- 27:35Speaker 2: I had to get this way myself, I had to
- 27:37Speaker 2: realize I have not been very good at knowing what's value. Because,
- 27:40Speaker 2: you know, here's where you miss it. You go like this.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Garrett invited me to come climb a mountain or to
- 27:45Speaker 2: come run a hundred mile with him. Dude, that's stupid.
- 27:48Speaker 2: I don't want to be a hundred. What's that going
- 27:49Speaker 2: to do for me? I'm not like me being a
- 27:50Speaker 2: hundred mile runner. Isn't going to change anything. And here's
- 27:52Speaker 2: the thing. How do you know what, what, no, you don't.
- 27:56Speaker 2: What if you're wrong? And that, and that's why you
- 27:58Speaker 2: have to have humility because when you start like the,
- 28:01Speaker 2: with joy part, I even feel convicted about that. Cause,
- 28:04Speaker 2: cause I know the way I'm like, Oh, but when
- 28:06Speaker 2: you go like, Hey, you know what? Maybe there's something
- 28:07Speaker 2: on the other side that I don't know about.
- 28:09Speaker 1: We should do a tools and tactics episode. on how
- 28:13Speaker 1: to see value.
- 28:14Speaker 2: Well, you know what, dude? I'm going to put it
- 28:15Speaker 2: in my phone right now. Why don't you go ahead
- 28:17Speaker 2: and kick on point two while I make this note?
- 28:19Speaker 2: I like that a lot. Right.
- 28:21Speaker 1: So again, we're talking about three things today, how to
- 28:24Speaker 1: be a price payer. Number one, price payers decide what
- 28:28Speaker 1: is worth it. Number two, price payers choose long-term purpose
- 28:35Speaker 1: over short-term comfort. You have to become this type of
- 28:40Speaker 1: person that you more often than not, I'm not saying
- 28:44Speaker 1: all the time, but more often than not, you choose
- 28:48Speaker 1: long-term purpose over short-term comfort. The price is usually paid
- 28:53Speaker 1: in the immediate for something you can't fully see yet.
- 28:56Speaker 1: This is how training your body works. This is how
- 28:58Speaker 1: building a business works. This is how marriage works. This
- 29:01Speaker 1: is how fatherhood works. This is how discipleship works. Just
- 29:04Speaker 1: quick wisdom note for you. I was making this with
- 29:08Speaker 1: a man that I get the privilege of speaking into
- 29:11Speaker 1: his life in coaching, I was helping him understand this analogy.
- 29:16Speaker 1: This was between, we were working, he's really great in
- 29:20Speaker 1: business and he's working on his marriage. And I'm saying
- 29:23Speaker 1: that lightly. I'm saying that kindly. He's doing really good
- 29:27Speaker 1: in business and his marriage needs to get to where
- 29:29Speaker 1: his business is at. And he does construction. I know construction.
- 29:33Speaker 1: And so I'm like, look, who makes the most money
- 29:37Speaker 1: in construction? The guy who gets paid last. You do
- 29:40Speaker 1: all this work. Sometimes you're on a job for six months,
- 29:43Speaker 1: a year, and your profit is at the end. Who
- 29:45Speaker 1: makes the least amount of money? The guy that gets
- 29:47Speaker 1: paid every week.
- 29:48Speaker 2: Right.
- 29:49Speaker 1: Hey, I got to get paid now. I did all
- 29:52Speaker 1: this work. I got to get paid now. You did
- 29:53Speaker 1: all this work, what, two days ago? What about the
- 29:56Speaker 1: guy who's been at risk millions of dollars, sweating, chasing
- 30:00Speaker 1: everybody around. And all he has 10 months into a
- 30:04Speaker 1: 12-month job is $ 2 million of IOUs.
- 30:07Speaker 2: Yes.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Right? And a giant liability sitting on his balance sheet.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Who makes the most money? The guy who gets paid last.
- 30:13Speaker 1: I'm like, hey, you understand this. You're great at construction.
- 30:16Speaker 1: I go, why don't you try this in your marriage?
- 30:18Speaker 1: Because in your marriage, what you do is you say
- 30:21Speaker 1: something and you want to get rewarded for it immediately.
- 30:23Speaker 2: Right.
- 30:24Speaker 1: Why don't you decide to get paid last in your marriage?
- 30:26Speaker 2: Dude, that is such a good analogy. I've never heard
- 30:28Speaker 2: you say that. That's really true of all businesses.
- 30:31Speaker 1: I don't know. I can't think of one guy who
- 30:32Speaker 1: gets paid. The last gets paid the most. Yeah.
- 30:34Speaker 2: And then everybody, well, if you have a small mindset,
- 30:36Speaker 2: you start to be mobile. Oh, look how much more
- 30:38Speaker 2: they're making. There's a reason for that.
- 30:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:40Speaker 2: Like no one was, was holding their hand whenever they
- 30:42Speaker 2: had huge amounts at risk and they were liable that
- 30:44Speaker 2: if it all collapsed, they were going to be the
- 30:45Speaker 2: one holding the bag.
- 30:46Speaker 1: So there's a great clip that floats around the internet of,
- 30:49Speaker 1: of Charlie Kirk, uh, tearing up this, this young kid
- 30:53Speaker 1: on a college campus talking about like labor and wages
- 30:57Speaker 1: and manufacturing. And he's like, Yeah, these people get paid
- 31:00Speaker 1: $ 14 an hour to come in and make pencils. But
- 31:03Speaker 1: the guy who built the factory spent tens of millions
- 31:07Speaker 1: of dollars building the facility, spent millions on sales and
- 31:10Speaker 1: all these things to go out and create a job
- 31:13Speaker 1: for you. Yeah, that's right. You're the one who makes
- 31:17Speaker 1: the pencil. Who paid for the graphite and the material?
- 31:21Speaker 1: Who paid for all the equipment? Who pays for the
- 31:23Speaker 1: seat that you sit in? Yeah, right. That guy got
- 31:25Speaker 1: paid last. He spent millions of dollars and hoped that
- 31:28Speaker 1: it would work out. Yeah.
- 31:30Speaker 2: We all drive around on roads and live in houses
- 31:32Speaker 2: and go into buildings all the time and don't sit
- 31:35Speaker 2: there and go like, man, I wonder who had to
- 31:37Speaker 2: dig this out. I wonder what guy sat there in
- 31:39Speaker 2: the middle of the night plowing this road and doing
- 31:41Speaker 2: all these things. Point I'm making, we get so used
- 31:44Speaker 2: to just having infrastructure and opportunities that are just ready
- 31:46Speaker 2: built for us that we begin to stop to even
- 31:48Speaker 2: realize that people paid a price for that. And this
- 31:51Speaker 2: is not just your opinion. Hebrews 12, 11. This is
- 31:54Speaker 2: exactly what you said. You pay a price now for
- 31:55Speaker 2: something you don't get today. For the moment, all discipline
- 31:59Speaker 2: seems painful rather than pleasant. Ain't that the truth? But later,
- 32:03Speaker 2: it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who
- 32:07Speaker 2: have been trained by it.
- 32:08Speaker 1: Later on, no discipline pleasant at the time, but painful.
- 32:12Speaker 1: Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and
- 32:17Speaker 1: peace for those who have been trained by it. Understand
- 32:20Speaker 1: in this scripture, there's a now and there's a later, okay?
- 32:25Speaker 1: Here's weak thinking for you. Weak thinking is what's gonna
- 32:28Speaker 1: make me feel better right now, okay? Hebrews 12, 11,
- 32:32Speaker 1: no discipline seems pleasant at the time. I'm not saying
- 32:36Speaker 1: it's the answer to all of your problems, but it
- 32:37Speaker 1: will solve many. For many of you listening today, what
- 32:40Speaker 1: would solve many of your problems is discipline. And then
- 32:44Speaker 1: once you get, when you solve all the discipline problems,
- 32:47Speaker 1: you get to the great problems in life, which are
- 32:48Speaker 1: wisdom problems. If your life is full of discipline-related problems,
- 32:53Speaker 1: you're very frustrated. You're very miserable. Once you solve discipline problems,
- 32:57Speaker 1: now you start to feel like you're playing the game
- 32:59Speaker 1: of life. How do I play smarter? But when you
- 33:02Speaker 1: can't solve discipline problems, you're like, why does my car
- 33:05Speaker 1: have a flat tire all the time is what you
- 33:07Speaker 1: feel like. Yeah.
- 33:08Speaker 2: Gee, that question, how do I feel better today? Dude,
- 33:12Speaker 2: every day in my depression and in my worst moments
- 33:15Speaker 2: of life, That was the only thing I thought about.
- 33:17Speaker 2: It's why drinking was so great because how do I
- 33:20Speaker 2: feel better today? Have another drink.
- 33:22Speaker 1: What will make me feel better is getting off of work.
- 33:26Speaker 1: How do I get off of work sooner? What am
- 33:28Speaker 1: I going to do when I get off work? How
- 33:30Speaker 1: do I irk all my responsibilities after work and get
- 33:33Speaker 1: to the bar faster, get to the whatever it is faster?
- 33:35Speaker 1: What's going to make me feel good right now? Almost never.
- 33:38Speaker 1: Is that a good question to ask? Yeah.
- 33:40Speaker 2: And I want to, once again, I'm the mental highlighter here,
- 33:43Speaker 2: so I'm just going to keep on highlighting, man. My
- 33:44Speaker 2: pen's got plenty of ink. What you said though, and
- 33:47Speaker 2: I want to encourage every person, it's nothing, it's completely free.
- 33:51Speaker 2: Go do our basic discipline training. Garrett just told you
- 33:54Speaker 2: that there is a level of life for you where
- 33:55Speaker 2: you get to start solving wisdom problems. But if you
- 33:57Speaker 2: can't solve discipline problems first, discipline is doing what you
- 34:00Speaker 2: said you'd do. If you can't even do what you
- 34:03Speaker 2: said you'd do, You're never going to get to the
- 34:05Speaker 2: ones that require wisdom because you're just going to keep
- 34:07Speaker 2: faltering around like, oh, shoot.
- 34:09Speaker 1: Think about all the pain that you've dealt with in
- 34:12Speaker 1: your life and think about how much of that pain
- 34:14Speaker 1: has been frustration and disappointment related. I'm talking to somebody.
- 34:19Speaker 1: Think about how much of that pain has been disappointment
- 34:21Speaker 1: and frustrated related. Don't tell me that it's not worth
- 34:25Speaker 1: it for you to at least try to be disciplined
- 34:27Speaker 1: for 30 days and see if I'm right.
- 34:29Speaker 2: Yeah. And I'm just going to tell you, it's not easy.
- 34:31Speaker 2: We did not design a program that you're like, you
- 34:33Speaker 2: get to pat yourself on the back and feel great.
- 34:35Speaker 2: We designed a program that's going to force you to
- 34:37Speaker 2: confront some of the weakest parts of yourself and give
- 34:39Speaker 2: you the opportunity to strengthen the strongest parts of yourself.
- 34:42Speaker 2: It's in school.
- 34:42Speaker 1: And you don't have to be some bodybuilder to do
- 34:45Speaker 1: the program either. You need no weights.
- 34:47Speaker 2: It's an hour a day. You're going to read scripture.
- 34:49Speaker 2: You're going to listen to a podcast. You're going to
- 34:50Speaker 2: do a body weight only workout.
- 34:52Speaker 1: And you can be, I would say, relatively new to
- 34:54Speaker 1: fitness as well. You'll fail on most of the exercises
- 34:57Speaker 1: and you'll be ridiculously sore, but that's okay.
- 34:59Speaker 2: Yeah. Just as only pain, like your t-shirt says. So
- 35:03Speaker 2: real quick, hold on real quick. That link is in
- 35:05Speaker 2: the show notes. Whether you're on Spotify or Apple, scroll
- 35:07Speaker 2: all the way to the bottom and it says- Or
- 35:09Speaker 2: YouTube too, right? Yeah, it'll be in YouTube.
- 35:11Speaker 1: You can just go down. It's there. I'm surprised how
- 35:13Speaker 1: many people I talk to that listen on YouTube.
- 35:16Speaker 2: A lot of our YouTube listens are going up. I
- 35:17Speaker 2: know you don't pay attention to that thing, but anyways,
- 35:19Speaker 2: I'll tell you about that offline.
- 35:20Speaker 1: It's good.
- 35:21Speaker 2: Praise the Lord.
- 35:21Speaker 1: So Hebrews 12, 11, there's a now and there's a later.
- 35:25Speaker 1: Weak thinking asks, what will make me feel better right now?
- 35:29Speaker 1: But the price payer says, remember what we're on here,
- 35:33Speaker 1: point number two, price payers choose long-term purpose over short-term comfort.
- 35:37Speaker 1: Here's what the price payer says. What choice produces the
- 35:41Speaker 1: man I need to become? And this is a different
- 35:43Speaker 1: type of question. The man I need to become. Need
- 35:46Speaker 1: to become for what? Yeah. To meet your purpose. You
- 35:49Speaker 1: want to pay the price?
- 35:50Speaker 2: Okay.
- 35:51Speaker 1: What type of man do I need to become? One
- 35:54Speaker 1: of the things, you know, the point that you brought
- 35:55Speaker 1: up at the beginning about the comment that we received
- 35:59Speaker 1: of the person saying, man, this is like discouraging sometimes. Okay.
- 36:02Speaker 1: Here's what I want you to understand. Not just the
- 36:05Speaker 1: person who made this comment, but many of you, you
- 36:08Speaker 1: need to grasp the understanding of accelerated returns and your
- 36:13Speaker 1: personal growth and development.
- 36:14Speaker 2: Right?
- 36:14Speaker 1: Catch the point that I made earlier about Robert Kiyosaki.
- 36:16Speaker 1: It's not just because he's smart now. He's learned all
- 36:19Speaker 1: of these things. He's developed himself in a way. He
- 36:22Speaker 1: has all these relationships that he says, I could rebuild
- 36:25Speaker 1: in a couple of years what it took me decades
- 36:27Speaker 1: to build. Okay. And so what does that mean? That
- 36:30Speaker 1: he's on a 30 year journey and really all the
- 36:33Speaker 1: value came from year 27 to 30. Okay. So what
- 36:36Speaker 1: you've got to understand is when you're on year one
- 36:39Speaker 1: of a 30 year journey, you look at the progress
- 36:41Speaker 1: that you made in year one of a 30-year journey,
- 36:44Speaker 1: and you say, at this rate, okay, be careful when
- 36:48Speaker 1: you're making these calculations, when you start summing your life
- 36:51Speaker 1: and saying, at this rate, because at this rate, how
- 36:54Speaker 1: much progress you made in year one of a 30-year journey,
- 36:56Speaker 1: you're like, this is gonna take 400 years. I don't
- 36:57Speaker 1: have 400 years. Might as well quit. What you have
- 36:59Speaker 1: to understand is that year two, you'll do more than
- 37:02Speaker 1: you did in the first year. Yeah. And year three,
- 37:04Speaker 1: you'll do more than you did in the second year.
- 37:06Speaker 1: And this begins to compound over time. If you'll be consistent,
- 37:09Speaker 1: and this is the accelerated returns of greatness- where you
- 37:12Speaker 1: just keep going and then you start to make these
- 37:14Speaker 1: massive leaps forward in your life. And when you are
- 37:18Speaker 1: at the beginning of your journey saying, if it's going
- 37:20Speaker 1: to be this hard for this long, I couldn't do it.
- 37:23Speaker 1: Just decide to be someone who's a price parent. If
- 37:25Speaker 1: you keep making the decision of who do I need
- 37:27Speaker 1: to become to get to that place, one day you
- 37:30Speaker 1: will get to a place where you could pay a
- 37:32Speaker 1: price that you never could have paid before. When I
- 37:35Speaker 1: look at what I've been through this year, I look
- 37:37Speaker 1: at it like I had a day this last week
- 37:41Speaker 1: where I got up very early in the morning, had,
- 37:43Speaker 1: you know, went and spoke at a company, then went
- 37:46Speaker 1: right from there into very important call, went right from
- 37:48Speaker 1: there into like, if you screw this up, it's all
- 37:52Speaker 1: over call. Like back to just my whole day just
- 37:55Speaker 1: looked like what would, you know, to have been in
- 37:58Speaker 1: this situation, you know, it's just one of the calls
- 38:00Speaker 1: that I was on that day to have been in
- 38:02Speaker 1: this one, one of these calls five years ago. I'm like,
- 38:04Speaker 1: oh my gosh, what am I doing? How did I
- 38:05Speaker 1: get here? Right. And I don't want to say this
- 38:07Speaker 1: is normal to me, But I've just prepared myself to
- 38:10Speaker 1: a level where I show up and I know exactly
- 38:12Speaker 1: what to do. The point is, this show's been going
- 38:16Speaker 1: for five years. A lot of you guys listened to
- 38:18Speaker 1: this show five years ago, and you liked what I
- 38:20Speaker 1: had to say then. I've grown so much since then, right?
- 38:23Speaker 1: This is the impossible life. We're trying to take you
- 38:26Speaker 1: on the impossible life journey. You've just got to decide,
- 38:29Speaker 1: I'm going to keep paying my price. Quit doing the
- 38:32Speaker 1: equation in your head where you're like, man, at this rate,
- 38:34Speaker 1: it's going to take forever. Yeah, well, you know what?
- 38:36Speaker 1: Maybe you'll learn to run faster.
- 38:39Speaker 2: Man, I love every bit of that.
- 38:40Speaker 1: And this is, by the way, Jesus modeled this. This
- 38:42Speaker 1: is Hebrews chapter 12, verse 2. Jesus could endure the
- 38:45Speaker 1: immediate price.
- 39:02Speaker 1: The painful immediate price, because he could see the greater purpose.
- 39:06Speaker 1: He knew what was on the other side. And look,
- 39:10Speaker 1: we're all human. Even Jesus was. He says, Lord, if
- 39:13Speaker 1: this can pass for me, let it pass. We all
- 39:17Speaker 1: come to those places, but it's how you deal with
- 39:19Speaker 1: it in the moment. And what did Jesus say? He said, Lord,
- 39:22Speaker 1: not my will, but yours be done. He didn't make
- 39:25Speaker 1: a decision for himself. He made a decision for his purpose.
- 39:28Speaker 2: Yeah. I think that that such a... Obviously, Jesus is
- 39:31Speaker 2: always going to be who we're following. And I think
- 39:34Speaker 2: we can tell ourselves stories. Yeah, but Jesus knew everything.
- 39:37Speaker 2: And Jesus, he could see all these things. And I
- 39:39Speaker 2: often think, I go, he was 100% man. So the
- 39:41Speaker 2: revelation of him realizing his purpose, I believe was something
- 39:45Speaker 2: that he grew in as he got older. I mean,
- 39:47Speaker 2: I always quote Isaiah 7, where it talks about you know,
- 39:50Speaker 2: he will be born, this will be the sign, he'll
- 39:52Speaker 2: be born of a virgin, his name will be Emmanuel,
- 39:53Speaker 2: which means God with us. And I can just think
- 39:56Speaker 2: about Jesus as a child hearing his mom, hearing that
- 39:58Speaker 2: scripture in the temple, and then his mom being like, hey,
- 40:00Speaker 2: your birth was a little bit different, and him starting
- 40:02Speaker 2: to piece it together. And like, because we like to
- 40:04Speaker 2: be like, oh, well, Jesus just knew it was easy
- 40:06Speaker 2: for him.
- 40:06Speaker 1: Don't do that.
- 40:08Speaker 2: Because you know what you're doing? You're giving yourself an excuse.
- 40:10Speaker 2: It's what I've seen people do with you. Well, you're
- 40:11Speaker 2: a Navy SEAL. dude, he wasn't born with a trident.
- 40:14Speaker 2: He paid a price to get where he's at. So don't, like,
- 40:16Speaker 2: I just think people don't realize that they're giving themselves
- 40:18Speaker 2: an easy out.
- 40:19Speaker 1: Don't think I've never had weak thoughts.
- 40:21Speaker 2: Right.
- 40:21Speaker 1: It's just what I did with them.
- 40:22Speaker 2: Yeah. And don't think Jesus never had tempting thoughts because
- 40:24Speaker 2: he was tempted in every way, but yet was found
- 40:26Speaker 2: without sin. So it's like, you don't think he was
- 40:29Speaker 2: tempted to give into things or whatever else? 100% he was.
- 40:32Speaker 2: And so I think we, like, I heard you preach
- 40:34Speaker 2: at Mighty Men and I was like, I was amped
- 40:37Speaker 2: on the inside. No, I'm serious because you were like, guys,
- 40:39Speaker 2: don't make Jesus like this impossible. Like, well, I can
- 40:41Speaker 2: never be like that. We're called, we have the same
- 40:43Speaker 2: spirit of God in us.
- 40:45Speaker 1: That's what this is all about. Yeah.
- 40:46Speaker 2: And so like, I think we're like, well, I could.
- 40:48Speaker 1: But that also, that is the, and it's the mentality
- 40:52Speaker 1: that I don't like, but this is like the fans mentality. Right.
- 40:55Speaker 1: The people who sit in the stands at the game,
- 40:58Speaker 1: at the NFL game, have no intention of ever getting
- 41:00Speaker 1: on the field. Correct. And that's not who you're supposed
- 41:02Speaker 1: to be when it comes to following Christ. Right. Like,
- 41:05Speaker 1: Christ is the ultimate model, and you've got to be saying, Lord,
- 41:08Speaker 1: put me on the field. I'll follow you. I'll do.
- 41:11Speaker 1: I'm not saying I can be you, but I'm going
- 41:13Speaker 1: to do everything I can.
- 41:13Speaker 2: Heck, yeah.
- 41:14Speaker 1: Put me in, coach.
- 41:15Speaker 2: All right, Jesus. Number one was price payers decide what's
- 41:17Speaker 2: worth it. Number two was they choose long-term purpose over
- 41:20Speaker 2: short-term comfort. What's number three?
- 41:23Speaker 1: This is a big one. We've talked about some of
- 41:26Speaker 1: this already. This is what will change your mindset as
- 41:29Speaker 1: it relates to being a price payer. And this is where,
- 41:32Speaker 1: you know, people... start asking themselves like, what am I
- 41:35Speaker 1: going to get out of this? When am I going
- 41:37Speaker 1: to get paid? Okay. This'll help you change that equation, right?
- 41:42Speaker 1: Because there are things that are way more valuable than money.
- 41:45Speaker 1: There's no amount of, you know, Nick gives me a
- 41:48Speaker 1: lot of respect on this show. I've paid a price
- 41:51Speaker 1: to get to where I am, to be who I am.
- 41:54Speaker 1: There's no amount of money that you could spend to
- 41:56Speaker 1: be me, right? There's choices you could make. There's lessons
- 42:00Speaker 1: you could learn. There's experience that you could gain. But
- 42:03Speaker 1: money won't get you to where I am. Money won't
- 42:05Speaker 1: get you to where you are. Point number three is
- 42:08Speaker 1: that price payers understand that the price changes them. This
- 42:12Speaker 1: is the most important part of being a price payer.
- 42:15Speaker 1: Sometimes we think we're paying a price to get something, right?
- 42:18Speaker 1: What am I going to get out of this? And
- 42:20Speaker 1: this is where you mess up the equations, by the way.
- 42:22Speaker 1: We talked about this on the episode last week in
- 42:25Speaker 1: the endurance equation where people say like, well, I'll work
- 42:28Speaker 1: one year for this price. But as soon as you
- 42:31Speaker 1: work more than a year, and you're on year two,
- 42:33Speaker 1: and you're on year three, and the price is the
- 42:34Speaker 1: same as what it was at the beginning, or the
- 42:37Speaker 1: reward is the same as what it was at the beginning,
- 42:38Speaker 1: but the price keeps going up, you start saying, maybe
- 42:40Speaker 1: I don't want to do this anymore. Sometimes we think
- 42:42Speaker 1: we're paying a price to get something, but what God
- 42:44Speaker 1: is most of the time doing, he's using the price
- 42:47Speaker 1: that we're paying to make us into someone.
- 42:49Speaker 2: Yes.
- 42:49Speaker 1: Right? Yes. David wanted to fight Goliath, but the price
- 42:53Speaker 1: had already been paid long before Goliath appeared. Think about this.
- 42:57Speaker 1: David's like, okay, I'm ready to fight Goliath. And people
- 43:00Speaker 1: think like, yeah, I'll fight Goliath. I'll pay my price.
- 43:02Speaker 1: He'd already paid the price, right? In years of quiet
- 43:07Speaker 1: development in the field, not just fighting his lions, not
- 43:10Speaker 1: just fighting his bears, dealing with his loneliness, fighting through obscurity,
- 43:14Speaker 1: taking responsibility when no one else cared, the faithfulness with
- 43:19Speaker 1: what didn't belong to him and him loving and seeking
- 43:22Speaker 1: after God through that entire process. And that's 1 Samuel 17,
- 43:26Speaker 1: verse 34 through 37. This is David's private battles is
- 43:29Speaker 1: what created him into the man capable of winning a
- 43:32Speaker 1: public battle, right? Let me say that again. David's private
- 43:35Speaker 1: battles is what created him into a man or made
- 43:38Speaker 1: him into a man capable of winning the public battles.
- 43:42Speaker 1: You've got to understand me paying my price. You know
- 43:44Speaker 1: what David got paid for tending after the sheep? Nothing.
- 43:49Speaker 1: You know what David got paid for tending the sheep?
- 43:51Speaker 2: Nothing.
- 43:52Speaker 1: He became the man capable of killing Goliath. So think
- 43:55Speaker 1: about some of the fields you're in today and you're like, man,
- 43:58Speaker 1: the transaction here sucks. Yeah, it does. Maybe you're getting
- 44:02Speaker 1: paid next to nothing. I can tell you for me,
- 44:05Speaker 1: I look back at as a young man serving in
- 44:08Speaker 1: church and so many of the lessons that like I've
- 44:11Speaker 1: built on today, like the bricks at the bottom of
- 44:13Speaker 1: the foundation of who I am today was put it
- 44:17Speaker 1: laying brick. Those bricks were transactions that paid me nothing. Yeah.
- 44:21Speaker 2: I smile because I... had that, you know, I'm not
- 44:24Speaker 2: a super aware person. You've often helped me grow in that.
- 44:27Speaker 2: But there's certain pieces of awareness that I had throughout
- 44:30Speaker 2: my life. And that was one of them. I remember
- 44:32Speaker 2: there were so many times whenever I was trying to
- 44:34Speaker 2: make my way in something, when I would go and
- 44:35Speaker 2: do it for free. And I wasn't worried about whether
- 44:38Speaker 2: I was getting paid just because I recognized the value
- 44:41Speaker 2: of once you've done something, nobody can ever tell you,
- 44:43Speaker 2: you can't do it again. Yeah. And that's where I
- 44:45Speaker 2: think people miss when they're like, well, how much does
- 44:47Speaker 2: it pay? Dude, Even if I paid you right now,
- 44:50Speaker 2: it wouldn't be worth what it's actually worth for you
- 44:52Speaker 2: to just come and make sure you get in the room.
- 44:54Speaker 2: And I think it's such a piece of awareness to
- 44:56Speaker 2: be willing to do that because I think the same thing.
- 44:57Speaker 2: I could literally go through all the places in my
- 44:59Speaker 2: career where I've done that.
- 45:00Speaker 1: Well, and people figure this out in other areas of life.
- 45:03Speaker 1: Think about guys who do Ironman. They're not doing Ironman
- 45:06Speaker 1: because they're expecting to get paid at the end.
- 45:08Speaker 2: Yeah, they pay to get there.
- 45:09Speaker 1: They pay to get there, and they don't do it
- 45:12Speaker 1: to win the medal either. And they're proud of the medal,
- 45:13Speaker 1: but they don't do it for that. They do it
- 45:15Speaker 1: for who they become in the process. And the price
- 45:18Speaker 1: that you're paying today, the price doesn't purchase the outcome
- 45:21Speaker 1: that you're seeking. The price produces the person capable of
- 45:26Speaker 1: carrying that outcome. So think about this. What is it
- 45:29Speaker 1: that you really want? What is it that you value?
- 45:32Speaker 1: And it's okay that some of those things are monetary.
- 45:34Speaker 1: That's not all of it. But whatever it is that
- 45:36Speaker 1: you're pursuing, the price that you're paying today to get there,
- 45:40Speaker 1: it's not so much that the price you're paying is
- 45:42Speaker 1: going to unlock that thing for you. But the price
- 45:44Speaker 1: you're paying today is going to make you somebody that's
- 45:47Speaker 1: capable of carrying that outcome. The reason God doesn't just
- 45:51Speaker 1: open up the golden road for you and walk you
- 45:54Speaker 1: straight to level 10 is because, one, you're not ready
- 45:56Speaker 1: for level 10, and you're certainly not ready for the
- 45:59Speaker 1: rewards that come at level 10. You'd squander it. You'd
- 46:02Speaker 1: lose it. It would ruin you, right? You have to
- 46:04Speaker 1: become the person capable of carrying that outcome. And I
- 46:07Speaker 1: promise you, this is the wise mantra, as if if
- 46:10Speaker 1: you build it, they will come. Or as Pastor Keith says,
- 46:13Speaker 1: what you're ready for is ready for you. And when
- 46:16Speaker 1: you're someone who's ready for your destiny, I promise it'll
- 46:20Speaker 1: knock at your door. Yeah.
- 46:21Speaker 2: And I hope that you, once again, I'm mentally highlighting that.
- 46:24Speaker 2: If you're not, if you don't have what you want
- 46:26Speaker 2: in life, which I hope everybody out there is going like, man,
- 46:29Speaker 2: I have bigger dreams than where I'm at. That understanding
- 46:32Speaker 2: of what you just said will give you such a
- 46:33Speaker 2: trust in the Lord. I apply it to our podcast.
- 46:36Speaker 2: You and I don't, aren't like, we have big, big
- 46:38Speaker 2: dreams for the podcast. We've, we've said it so many times.
- 46:41Speaker 2: We want to change the perception, shift the mindset of
- 46:43Speaker 2: what it means to be a godly man. That's not
- 46:44Speaker 2: a small thing. That's not going to become, that's probably
- 46:47Speaker 2: not going to happen because we had, you know, my
- 46:48Speaker 2: mom and your mom listened to it and thought the
- 46:50Speaker 2: podcast was great. So we have big dreams. And every
- 46:53Speaker 2: time that like, you're sitting there and you're like looking
- 46:56Speaker 2: at things, I go, you know what? We just must
- 46:57Speaker 2: not be ready. There's something that God's doing because ultimately
- 47:00Speaker 2: one man plants, another man waters, but God makes it grow.
- 47:04Speaker 2: And so we're just going to keep planting. We're going
- 47:05Speaker 2: to keep watering. We're going to be faithful with what
- 47:07Speaker 2: God has and entrust the growth to him because there's
- 47:10Speaker 2: things we need to learn that we don't even know yet.
- 47:12Speaker 1: You've got to realize that you're not going to magically
- 47:15Speaker 1: become disciplined the moment the test arrives.
- 47:17Speaker 2: Right.
- 47:18Speaker 1: Like this is, it's what has informed my life from
- 47:22Speaker 1: a young age. It's something I've lived by for a
- 47:24Speaker 1: long time. You just got to make this a part
- 47:26Speaker 1: of who you are. Like be this type of person.
- 47:28Speaker 1: It's Abraham Lincoln. I will prepare and my time will come.
- 47:31Speaker 1: Be someone who's like, dude, I'm just, I'm just, what
- 47:33Speaker 1: are you doing? Preparing. What are you preparing for? I
- 47:35Speaker 1: don't know. Just getting ready. Getting ready for my test. Don't,
- 47:39Speaker 1: don't be someone who's asking God, God, when are you
- 47:41Speaker 1: going to give me more? When are you going to
- 47:42Speaker 1: open more doors? Here's what you should ask God. What
- 47:46Speaker 1: price is required for me to become capable of carrying more? God,
- 47:50Speaker 1: what do I need to do? Where am I missing it?
- 47:52Speaker 1: Because other than that, like, think about it this way.
- 47:55Speaker 2: Okay.
- 47:55Speaker 1: You want God to take you to the next level.
- 47:57Speaker 1: If you knew what God was waiting on you to
- 48:01Speaker 1: do to take you to the next level, and you
- 48:03Speaker 1: didn't do it, and you're praying for God to take
- 48:05Speaker 1: you to the next level, you're being foolish. So don't
- 48:07Speaker 1: be that person. If you knew what God needed you
- 48:11Speaker 1: to do to take you to the next level, and
- 48:14Speaker 1: then you do those things, those things are going to happen.
- 48:16Speaker 1: God's going to do what he says. And I'm giving
- 48:19Speaker 1: you just a couple of places that you can be
- 48:22Speaker 1: in life. So one, I'm asking God to do what
- 48:23Speaker 1: I'm not willing to do. You're not going to like
- 48:25Speaker 1: that response. God told me what to do, and I'm
- 48:27Speaker 1: going to do it. Or you want to go to
- 48:29Speaker 1: the next level and you don't know what to do.
- 48:30Speaker 1: And this is where you should pray the spirit and say, God,
- 48:32Speaker 1: what do I need to do? What am I missing
- 48:34Speaker 1: to go to the next level? I promise you, you'll
- 48:37Speaker 1: like who you become over time. If you're someone who,
- 48:40Speaker 1: whenever you're not where you want to be, whenever you
- 48:42Speaker 1: didn't get what you wanted to get out of something,
- 48:44Speaker 1: whenever it just doesn't go the way that you would
- 48:46Speaker 1: like it to go, that you always look inward and say,
- 48:48Speaker 1: how do I need to change?
- 48:50Speaker 2: Right?
- 48:50Speaker 1: The next time you get in an argument with someone,
- 48:52Speaker 1: you don't, man, man, that guy's such an idiot. You say, man,
- 48:55Speaker 1: where am I missing it in my communication ability? Always
- 48:59Speaker 1: take the issues and say, where can I get better
- 49:00Speaker 1: in this? Where can I grow in this? Be this
- 49:03Speaker 1: way in your relationship with God. God, how do I
- 49:05Speaker 1: need to change? If you want more leadership in your life,
- 49:09Speaker 1: it's going to require, like if you want to be
- 49:10Speaker 1: a bigger leader, you want a new title, you want
- 49:12Speaker 1: a new role, you want the salary that comes with
- 49:14Speaker 1: those things. It's going to require you to take on
- 49:16Speaker 1: a greater responsibility. You want more influence. You want God
- 49:19Speaker 1: to unlock doors for you. You want fame or whatever
- 49:22Speaker 1: it is. Like you want to be able to stand
- 49:23Speaker 1: on stages, develop your character. You want more opportunity. It's
- 49:27Speaker 1: going to require great discipline. God doesn't just give out
- 49:30Speaker 1: work to people who can't be a great steward with
- 49:33Speaker 1: what he's already given them. You want more spiritual authority
- 49:36Speaker 1: in your life. You want to be able to speak
- 49:37Speaker 1: into situations. Work on the current obedience that you have today, right?
- 49:41Speaker 1: This is the mindset that you have to have to
- 49:44Speaker 1: be a price payer. So it's three things. Number one,
- 49:47Speaker 1: you got to know what is worth paying for. Know
- 49:50Speaker 1: what you value. If everything matters, then nothing matters. Understand
- 49:55Speaker 1: what matters most to you. Number two, you got to
- 49:58Speaker 1: pay today's price for tomorrow's purpose. It's not going to
- 50:03Speaker 1: show up today. Be someone who's just constantly investing, right?
- 50:06Speaker 1: Like I'm just sowing seed. I'm getting ready. I'm sowing
- 50:09Speaker 1: into my marriage. I'm sowing into my business. I'm sowing
- 50:13Speaker 1: into my future. Don't sacrifice your future on the altar
- 50:17Speaker 1: of immediate comfort. It's what so many of the times
- 50:19Speaker 1: we do. It's like, oh, well, you give up the future.
- 50:21Speaker 1: You give up opportunities and you have to take a
- 50:23Speaker 1: lap because you cashed in on the wrong thing. And
- 50:26Speaker 1: number three, let the price produce you, right? The price
- 50:30Speaker 1: that you're willing to pay, it's about who it's going
- 50:32Speaker 1: to make you become. This is what God wants for you,
- 50:34Speaker 1: that you would grow from the process that you're working through.
- 50:37Speaker 1: The process isn't just getting you somewhere. The process is
- 50:40Speaker 1: making you into someone.
