- 0:23Speaker 4: you need to leave.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Go drive a K truck.

- 0:28Speaker 1: The Driver's Show with Paul Marrick and Gordy Waters, Hey
- 0:39Speaker 1: we should you know what.
- 0:40Speaker 4: I don't really do intros, but people like will be going,
- 0:43Speaker 4: who the fuck are you guys?
- 0:45Speaker 3: As in all yeah, we're like, we're a break glass
- 0:48Speaker 3: in case of emergency.
- 0:49Speaker 4: Yeah, where the ripcord? We're like the Nights of the
- 0:53Speaker 4: Kids table, you know what I mean. We're just like,
- 0:57Speaker 4: all right.
- 0:57Speaker 3: It's the weekend show.
- 0:59Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, so we don't know where Paul is. I
- 1:02Speaker 4: do know where Paul is, but I'm not allowed to
- 1:04Speaker 4: tell anyone. He's getting transgender surgery.
- 1:09Speaker 2: It's about time.
- 1:10Speaker 4: Well yeah, I mean the gender realignment thing was like
- 1:12Speaker 4: the final I guess nail in the coffin, so to speak.
- 1:17Speaker 4: He really needed it and wanted it and something he
- 1:20Speaker 4: dreamed about, and he just wanted a straight penis.
- 1:24Speaker 2: So I can't believe like a guy that is attractive
- 1:28Speaker 2: as he is can be even more attractive.
- 1:30Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I don't know at this point if he's
- 1:33Speaker 4: a guy or a girl.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Okay, I'm going to stay quiet at this point because
- 1:37Speaker 3: I've never actually met Paul before I take his job forever.
- 1:42Speaker 2: He tastes fantastic.
- 1:44Speaker 4: He smells good too. In fact, I think we should
- 1:47Speaker 4: take a brief moment. What was that song from Beaches
- 1:50Speaker 4: that bed middle.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Of the song wings? Yes, I shouldn't know that.
- 1:57Speaker 4: Yeah, you answer, though far too quickly.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Be middle of the men, you're a yeah, it's okay.
- 2:03Speaker 4: We should just take a moment to acknowledge that Parvelay
- 2:07Speaker 4: is not in the room, and I just we just
- 2:11Speaker 4: wanted to take a moment. I miss your silly Croatian haircut.
- 2:21Speaker 4: I missed that dark tan.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Sorry, where's the wind coming from Trevor's undeasy?
- 2:34Speaker 4: I miss your tan that looks like you've just rubbed
- 2:38Speaker 4: soy sauce all over your hairy nipples.
- 2:41Speaker 2: They are quite hairy, aren't they.
- 2:43Speaker 4: Yeah, they're like Harry Pepperoni's I called them.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Yeah, you seem to be well acquainted with them.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Did you have to work with Paul? Well, we're both
- 2:51Speaker 2: paid to be there work.
- 2:53Speaker 4: Okay, we sort of did. Okay, what a car expert?
- 2:57Speaker 2: I know Carr Advice?
- 2:58Speaker 4: Oh you went to Carr Advice.
- 2:59Speaker 2: I was a car of us.
- 3:00Speaker 4: Yeah, hang on, you're interrupting the middle of my I'm sorry,
- 3:06Speaker 4: I miss you. I miss you anyway. So, so Alex,
- 3:10Speaker 4: who talk now so they can understand which one?
- 3:12Speaker 3: Hello?
- 3:12Speaker 4: Yeah? So yes, yeah, you come from a radio background,
- 3:15Speaker 4: and now you've got a car channel, which is called
- 3:18Speaker 4: four wheels in a seat and a seat.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Don't pretend you don't know. Gordy. You were at the
- 3:22Speaker 3: recording of my very first episode. You actually held the camera. Yeah,
- 3:26Speaker 3: for a whole bunch of shots. We filmed for about
- 3:28Speaker 3: six hours. It was porno and I got about three
- 3:31Speaker 3: seconds of useful footage out of that.
- 3:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I was that good.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, stay away from cameras. Microphones are your game.
- 3:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:38Speaker 2: What was that?
- 3:39Speaker 5: Was that?
- 3:39Speaker 4: A bagero sport?
- 3:40Speaker 3: It was? And that was the very first video that
- 3:43Speaker 3: I did on the channel six years ago.
- 3:45Speaker 4: Now, we had no idea how to drive that, and
- 3:48Speaker 4: we fucking flogged out, like we had no idea, no idea,
- 3:53Speaker 4: And here I am going, I'm going to get afore
- 3:55Speaker 4: we'll drive. These things are fucking fun, and I reckon,
- 3:57Speaker 4: we probably returned that in a terrible state.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Yeah, Mitsubishi were the only car company sort of brave
- 4:04Speaker 3: enough to loan me a car at that point. And well,
- 4:08Speaker 3: I mean, you know, we didn't ruin it, so other
- 4:09Speaker 3: car companies jumped on board. Yeah, yeah, still going.
- 4:12Speaker 4: They got there, and Adam has some I've never heard of.
- 4:16Speaker 4: You re driven.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's I'm pretty sure that's how it's pronounced. Yeah,
- 4:21Speaker 2: I think so driven red red riven, red riven, red,
- 4:24Speaker 2: red riven, red driven. He's even got the merch on.
- 4:29Speaker 2: It's actually it's not this. Literally we filmed today. So
- 4:32Speaker 2: I came from filming.
- 4:33Speaker 4: I thought you were I thought you were here for
- 4:35Speaker 4: like a true collab.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Well, no it was it was a club. I just
- 4:39Speaker 2: happened to be in the area filming a car and
- 4:41Speaker 2: I'm like, well, I can try and race home and
- 4:43Speaker 2: get changed. Yeah, I was lazy and didn't.
- 4:46Speaker 4: I've got my I've got my the Driver Showed t
- 4:49Speaker 4: shirt in my back and I'm not even putting it on.
- 4:51Speaker 4: I should put it on.
- 4:52Speaker 2: I should have brought more merch for you guys to
- 4:54Speaker 2: wear and the red Driven kid.
- 4:57Speaker 4: Yeah, if you've got a triple extra large, I can
- 4:59Speaker 4: give to Parley Love that.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Yeah, he'll wear that.
- 5:01Speaker 4: He'll wear that for sure. No, because we thought this
- 5:04Speaker 4: would be a good idea, because I just think the
- 5:07Speaker 4: collabse stuff we're talking about this off air right, it
- 5:10Speaker 4: just doesn't happen enough, you know what I mean. And
- 5:12Speaker 4: it's such a it's so exciting, like as a as
- 5:14Speaker 4: a car fan when I see someone like say Chris
- 5:17Speaker 4: Harris on the Throttlehouse Boys Show or something like that,
- 5:22Speaker 4: I love that sort of stuff.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Or yeah, I don't know, it doesn't happen. It's this
- 5:26Speaker 2: year fast. We want to do way more collaboration. We've
- 5:29Speaker 2: got some stuff coming up with cars hors, We've got
- 5:31Speaker 2: some stuff coming up with chasing cars. John Cadogan from
- 5:33Speaker 2: Auto Expert. We're doing things at the moment. So I
- 5:37Speaker 2: don't understand why Australia is so behind the April in this.
- 5:41Speaker 2: If you look at the UK You've got you know,
- 5:43Speaker 2: you know Henry Cashpole will turn up on a throttle
- 5:45Speaker 2: House video in the US. You've got you know, the
- 5:48Speaker 2: Speed channel that will collaborate with Donut Media even though
- 5:52Speaker 2: he James Pumfrey was the host of Donut Left, but
- 5:55Speaker 2: he'll still collaborate with them. But for some reason, I
- 5:58Speaker 2: don't know why the Australian channel. I don't understand why,
- 6:03Speaker 2: you know, say Drive won't collaborate with Chasing Cars. It
- 6:07Speaker 2: makes no sense to me.
- 6:08Speaker 4: I don't understand why Drive wouldn't collab with the Driver show.
- 6:12Speaker 4: I think it was something to do with the court
- 6:13Speaker 4: case and some legal letters back and forth, and possibly
- 6:18Speaker 4: one of the parties got very bitchy. I won't say
- 6:22Speaker 4: which one them, but yeah, they won't collab with anyone.
- 6:27Speaker 2: It's so weird, such an archaic way of thinking. And
- 6:31Speaker 2: as we were saying off air, back in the day
- 6:34Speaker 2: of magazines, where someone had a budget for one magazine,
- 6:38Speaker 2: I can understand that they might not go and buy
- 6:40Speaker 2: the other three ones that are available at the newsstand.
- 6:42Speaker 2: But now with YouTube and podcast, there is no finite
- 6:45Speaker 2: amount of views. You know, if you're going to watch
- 6:47Speaker 2: a Piggerio sport video, on one channel, You're probably gonna
- 6:50Speaker 2: watch three or four other Pagiro sport channels on other channels. Yeah,
- 6:53Speaker 2: because they can all bring something else to the party.
- 6:55Speaker 2: It would only make sense for the audience and for information,
- 6:58Speaker 2: education and entertainment to go, Well, let's get these two
- 7:02Speaker 2: big channels together, collaborate on this particular car. Have some
- 7:05Speaker 2: fun with that. Because all all the journals they're all mates,
- 7:08Speaker 2: you know, they've all worked together, so this chemistry there.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Until they become mates once they meet each other. But
- 7:14Speaker 3: one thing I've sort of found in the course of
- 7:16Speaker 3: doing a lot of industry type you know days and
- 7:19Speaker 3: track days and events and stuff like that, is that
- 7:22Speaker 3: there is a little bit of suspicion and bitchiness.
- 7:24Speaker 2: I find absolutely had I got shunned dramatically not that
- 7:30Speaker 2: long ago. I was at an event and there are
- 7:33Speaker 2: a couple of guys there. Dave McGowan was there, Scotti Newman,
- 7:36Speaker 2: some really great good dudes. Yeah, and guys I massively admire.
- 7:40Speaker 2: I'm huge fans of their work and it was such
- 7:42Speaker 2: an honor to meet them and we got along straight away.
- 7:45Speaker 2: There were four or five other journals there that I'm
- 7:48Speaker 2: also massive fans of and I went up to say, hey, guys,
- 7:51Speaker 2: Adam from Redriven, I love your work. Just awesome to
- 7:55Speaker 2: be on this event with you. They literally saw me,
- 7:58Speaker 2: look me up and down in their backs and started laughing,
- 8:01Speaker 2: Oh my god.
- 8:02Speaker 4: What. Yeah, it's such a bitchy, Like I thought radio
- 8:05Speaker 4: was bitchy. But since I've met Paul right and he'll
- 8:09Speaker 4: let me in on a few bits and pieces, I'm like,
- 8:12Speaker 4: my god, your industry so caddy. You car journalists, it's
- 8:16Speaker 4: so high school. Yeah, and yeah, I just don't understand
- 8:20Speaker 4: where that comes from.
- 8:21Speaker 3: And I think that's why it's such a good fit
- 8:23Speaker 3: for people like you and me, Gordy, who have worked
- 8:25Speaker 3: in radio, because culturally it's quite similar. I mean, look,
- 8:28Speaker 3: let's you know, cut the crappy. We all love to gossip,
- 8:31Speaker 3: and it is easy to fall in that trap. I mean,
- 8:34Speaker 3: like I try not to do it personally, but I
- 8:35Speaker 3: mean invariably it does happen. Yeah.
- 8:37Speaker 4: Yeah, it's funny because like it's one of the reasons
- 8:39Speaker 4: why Paul and I started this was that old school,
- 8:44Speaker 4: old boys kind of car journalist where it would be
- 8:46Speaker 4: like take the cash and call it car of the year, right,
- 8:52Speaker 4: And I was just like when I kind of got
- 8:54Speaker 4: that that was where car journalism was, I was like,
- 8:58Speaker 4: fuck that, and I was talking to here about it,
- 9:00Speaker 4: and that's how we kind of started the podcast, like
- 9:02Speaker 4: let's just do real, authentic, proper like hangout chat about
- 9:07Speaker 4: this sort of stuff, because that whole old school boys
- 9:10Speaker 4: club where it's like this fat old guy who's well divorced,
- 9:14Speaker 4: couple of stains, questionable stains on his shirt and he's
- 9:18Speaker 4: like riding something on the boot of his car, like
- 9:20Speaker 4: finishing off a story as just fucking send it like that.
- 9:24Speaker 4: That shit's gone now, you know.
- 9:26Speaker 2: That's part of the reason that we started Redriven, Like,
- 9:28Speaker 2: you know, I seend my offsider in the business who's
- 9:31Speaker 2: behind the camera. You know, I met doing new car
- 9:34Speaker 2: content and I was new to that. I come from
- 9:35Speaker 2: thirty years of touring and music as a session musician,
- 9:39Speaker 2: get into the car world thinking this is going to
- 9:41Speaker 2: be amazing, and then going, oh my god, this is
- 9:43Speaker 2: a shit show. This is terrible and so political and
- 9:46Speaker 2: all this backstabbing and whatnot. So part of Red Driven
- 9:50Speaker 2: was going, well, I still want to make car videos.
- 9:52Speaker 2: I want to have complete freedom to say whatever I want.
- 9:55Speaker 2: I want to make them entertaining and not have to
- 9:56Speaker 2: be you know, politically correct because of the car companies.
- 10:00Speaker 2: We'll just do used cars. And I don't give a
- 10:03Speaker 2: shit what the car companies think. I just don't care
- 10:05Speaker 2: if I never get a press car ever, again, I
- 10:07Speaker 2: don't care. And I think the audience really respond to that,
- 10:10Speaker 2: like it's so nice being hoped, you know, one of
- 10:13Speaker 2: the very few channels that can go this car is
- 10:15Speaker 2: a piece of shit and you shouldn't buy it. Yeah,
- 10:18Speaker 2: it feels so nice to that, And I have car
- 10:20Speaker 2: journalists mates going, oh my god, we wish we could
- 10:22Speaker 2: say that.
- 10:22Speaker 4: My love car is less good this one, which might
- 10:26Speaker 4: be a little better. Yeah, I miss I missed going
- 10:28Speaker 4: on the press junkets. I miss the fabulous food and
- 10:30Speaker 4: the wonderful accommodation.
- 10:32Speaker 3: Having done that today, yes, I can attest it is
- 10:34Speaker 3: very good.
- 10:34Speaker 2: It's amazing getting a racetrack to yourself and an amazing
- 10:38Speaker 2: you know, supercar of some sort is incredible. But I'm
- 10:40Speaker 2: happy to give all that up to have the freedom
- 10:42Speaker 2: to go this car is shit.
- 10:44Speaker 4: Yeah. And also you've kind of tapped into something where
- 10:47Speaker 4: no one had really gone with the with the secondhand
- 10:50Speaker 4: market as well, like no one was really especially to
- 10:53Speaker 4: the level what you guys do delving into used cars
- 10:59Speaker 4: with the research and basically a proper review of them.
- 11:03Speaker 4: You know what I mean?
- 11:04Speaker 2: Well, I think the secret of the car industry that
- 11:06Speaker 2: nobody wants to say is that all new cars are
- 11:09Speaker 2: pretty bloody good. Even the less good ones have giant
- 11:12Speaker 2: warranties on them. So a new car, look, you're fine,
- 11:14Speaker 2: just pick the color you want, get the one that
- 11:16Speaker 2: looks good. No one cares, you know, if you know,
- 11:19Speaker 2: maybe pitstick with Toyota if depreciation is an issue for you.
- 11:22Speaker 2: But with used cars, that's when shit goes down. That's
- 11:25Speaker 2: when you start. The minute it's out of warranty, that's
- 11:28Speaker 2: when things can really start adding up. You know, we
- 11:31Speaker 2: know of European cars that might start having engine failures
- 11:35Speaker 2: just out of warranty, and the replacement engine from the
- 11:37Speaker 2: manufacturer is over one hundred thousand dollars just for the engine.
- 11:41Speaker 2: You know, that's that's terrible. I mean, if you've got cash,
- 11:44Speaker 2: that's a heartbreaking moment. So Jim, who's our resident mechanic
- 11:48Speaker 2: in the videos, he was the catalyst all this happening.
- 11:51Speaker 2: You know, we caught up and he had a young
- 11:53Speaker 2: guy that was in who was an eighteen year old
- 11:55Speaker 2: apprentice builder in tears in his office because he's volkswag
- 11:59Speaker 2: an Amarrock that he'd done his due diligence, he'd gone
- 12:01Speaker 2: and watched all the new reviews and yeah, knew with
- 12:04Speaker 2: a warranty that is a fantastic jewel cabut at the time,
- 12:07Speaker 2: out of warranty catastrophic engine failure. I took out the
- 12:09Speaker 2: gearbox twenty five thousand dollars worth of damage.
- 12:12Speaker 4: Oh my god, on a ute.
- 12:14Speaker 2: That cost him twenty thousand dollars. Yeah, so now he's
- 12:16Speaker 2: an apprentice guy. He's got a twenty thousand dollar alone
- 12:20Speaker 2: that he has to pay back, but another twenty five
- 12:22Speaker 2: thousand dollars he needs to find to fix the thing
- 12:24Speaker 2: to get it back on the road, which he can't get.
- 12:26Speaker 2: He risks losing his apprenticeship because he now doesn't have
- 12:29Speaker 2: a vehicle. He's starting life at eighteen kind of fifty
- 12:32Speaker 2: thousand dollars in the hole. And then Jim said, you
- 12:35Speaker 2: know what, that's the third amrok in two weeks. We've
- 12:37Speaker 2: had to do the same thing. Why isn't anyone telling
- 12:40Speaker 2: the public that out of warranty that is a nightmare vehicle.
- 12:45Speaker 2: And that's what kind of what kickstarted all this, and
- 12:47Speaker 2: that's why we spent hours and hours delving through subreddits
- 12:52Speaker 2: and owners groups and forums and talking to parts interpreters
- 12:55Speaker 2: and talking to as many service texts as we possibly
- 12:57Speaker 2: can and getting as much information as can to tell
- 13:01Speaker 2: the public hate like, here's the common issues you've got
- 13:04Speaker 2: to watch out for these.
- 13:05Speaker 3: Is it a case of that they are having an
- 13:08Speaker 3: unusually large amount of lemons or difficult cars or is
- 13:12Speaker 3: it like these problems crop up with all amorocks.
- 13:17Speaker 2: The more complexity you put into something, the more problems
- 13:19Speaker 2: you're probably going to have. And it's an interesting one.
- 13:21Speaker 2: There's an argument at the moment that we get in
- 13:24Speaker 2: the comments a lot and a lot of people messages
- 13:25Speaker 2: about saying, isn't it funny that you know we're trying
- 13:28Speaker 2: to make cars more environment environmentally friendly? Obviously that's super
- 13:31Speaker 2: super important. The problem is the more emissions gear you
- 13:35Speaker 2: put on engines, or the more safety features you have,
- 13:37Speaker 2: and the more complexity and the more computers and modules
- 13:39Speaker 2: that have to talk to each other, the more things
- 13:41Speaker 2: that can go wrong. You know, we've got an issue
- 13:43Speaker 2: now where certain cars of a headlight goes out, you
- 13:45Speaker 2: can't just replace it with another headlight. That headlight has
- 13:48Speaker 2: to be coded into the car's ECU and body control module.
- 13:51Speaker 2: If they don't talk to each other, the car's charactors. Yeah,
- 13:54Speaker 2: or you've got cars that can be written off over
- 13:56Speaker 2: a minor accident. So even though we're trying to be
- 13:59Speaker 2: better for the that's an entire car that's going to
- 14:01Speaker 2: the scrap heap because of maybe you know, a couple
- 14:04Speaker 2: of thousand dollars problem. Whereas if you go back into
- 14:07Speaker 2: the let's say early two thousands, you find like a
- 14:10Speaker 2: let's say an FJ Cruiser, right, well, everything on that
- 14:12Speaker 2: you can fix in your garage at home, and that
- 14:15Speaker 2: thing will last forever. The FJ Cruisers will be on
- 14:17Speaker 2: the roads in another one hundred years time.
- 14:19Speaker 4: Yeah, I tried to. I was looking at one recently,
- 14:21Speaker 4: could not. You can barely find one under two hundred
- 14:24Speaker 4: thousand kilometers. But that kind of seems to be the
- 14:27Speaker 4: norm for that car, like they will that's two hundred
- 14:30Speaker 4: thousand kilometers. You'd be like, oh, that's kind of like
- 14:33Speaker 4: looking at the end of your life. But with those
- 14:35Speaker 4: cars probably fifty percent maybe more.
- 14:38Speaker 2: If that if that thing serviced correctly. Seriously, there's no
- 14:41Speaker 2: reason it can't do eight hundred thousand k's. Like you
- 14:44Speaker 2: replace the suspension bushes, you know, make sure it's maintained correctly.
- 14:48Speaker 2: That will probably last up. Find me any modern BMW, Mercedes, Aldy,
- 14:53Speaker 2: anything that will do more than one hundred and fifty
- 14:55Speaker 2: thousand k's these days.
- 14:56Speaker 3: Yeah, after the nuclear apocalypse, it will be cockroaches driving
- 15:00Speaker 3: to just.
- 15:02Speaker 4: Yeah, it's kind of weird when you like look at
- 15:04Speaker 4: brand new cars nowadays. Most of them are pretty good,
- 15:08Speaker 4: you know, they're kind of a lot of mundane stuff
- 15:10Speaker 4: out there. Like I'm driving, it's funny like I'm driving
- 15:13Speaker 4: a Jacu J five at the moment, baby kind of
- 15:16Speaker 4: land rover thirty five thousand dollars. Blows me away. It
- 15:21Speaker 4: looks stylish, it feels stylish on the inside. It's actually
- 15:24Speaker 4: drives pretty well, Like I don't have any sort of complaints,
- 15:29Speaker 4: But it's funny, like you look at a car secondhand,
- 15:32Speaker 4: an older car. I'm thirty five grand I'll use a
- 15:36Speaker 4: Porsche Cayman as a as a reference point, but the
- 15:40Speaker 4: Jaku would kill that thing in terms of speed and
- 15:43Speaker 4: all that sort of stuff. Now, But I'd fucking take
- 15:46Speaker 4: the Cayman any day of the week.
- 15:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:48Speaker 2: I think the reason being that most new cars aren't sexy,
- 15:51Speaker 2: especially EV's, Like EV's a great appliance, but it's one
- 15:54Speaker 2: degree of separation away from buying a fridge. But there's
- 15:57Speaker 2: nothing short of maybe a horse should Takhon sports Turismo
- 16:02Speaker 2: or a herend Ionic five N six am.
- 16:04Speaker 4: Oh that's that is hands down the greatest EV in
- 16:07Speaker 4: the world.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Absolutely, but still not sexy. And I would still buy
- 16:11Speaker 2: an I twenty I'd buy four I twenty ends before
- 16:14Speaker 2: I bought an only five N what absolutely really, Yeah,
- 16:17Speaker 2: I had I had a long term don't get me wrong.
- 16:19Speaker 2: It is a phenomenal car. It is easily the best
- 16:22Speaker 2: EV I've driven. Yeah, I've got to do a lot
- 16:24Speaker 2: of proper driving with that. I can't elaborate. Yeah, I
- 16:27Speaker 2: know you did do some track stuff and yes, and
- 16:30Speaker 2: it is in terms of evs. Yeah, Like if I
- 16:33Speaker 2: had to buy an e V, it would be the
- 16:35Speaker 2: one I would buy. But I would still buy an
- 16:37Speaker 2: I twenty N in a heartbeat. Wouldn't even hesitate, Yeah.
- 16:42Speaker 4: Or an I thirty N.
- 16:43Speaker 2: Why, it's just it's a more visceral experience it's it's
- 16:48Speaker 2: a it's a real car. I don't know, there's not
- 16:50Speaker 2: computers doing half the work for me. It doesn't weigh
- 16:53Speaker 2: two and a half tons, or there's that you go
- 16:55Speaker 2: through tires, like the problem with that Ionic five m
- 16:58Speaker 2: it's so good and it's so fast, but also weighs
- 17:00Speaker 2: the same as a land cruiser. Physics are gonna win.
- 17:03Speaker 2: So you are going to go through tires to rated knots.
- 17:05Speaker 4: So I mean that's on the trail. If you took
- 17:08Speaker 4: it on track, yeah, you'll cook those tires by the
- 17:10Speaker 4: end of the day, by lunchtime, by.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Lunchtime, yeah, I know from experience, Yeah, by by morning team.
- 17:17Speaker 2: But even on roads like it is, it's incredible. But
- 17:21Speaker 2: I don't know. For me again, I get to drive
- 17:24Speaker 2: so much stuff evs the novelty of that acceleration just
- 17:28Speaker 2: wears off.
- 17:29Speaker 3: Oh yeah.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Whereas an n C MX five third generation m X
- 17:34Speaker 2: five with a bit of a subtle suspension geometry tweak
- 17:38Speaker 2: that will never get tied. That is a phenomenal car.
- 17:42Speaker 2: They are absolutely that is one of the most outstanding
- 17:44Speaker 2: driving experiences. Really, Oh my god.
- 17:47Speaker 4: What's interesting about the X the m X five is
- 17:50Speaker 4: you could buy one now, and you're probably not gonna
- 17:54Speaker 4: get one that's much different from fifteen years ago. You'll
- 17:58Speaker 4: get some slight tech stuff, but even the techie stuff
- 18:02Speaker 4: like they're I think they've now just fixed that stupid
- 18:06Speaker 4: wheel that Masdal relied on for so long. Yeah, to
- 18:09Speaker 4: touch but yeah, even that was just why they fucking
- 18:14Speaker 4: have that. In fact, I'd prefer not to have it.
- 18:16Speaker 2: But you look at the prices of the first three
- 18:18Speaker 2: generations of m X five NA n B n C. Yeah,
- 18:22Speaker 2: like you used to get it. You could get an
- 18:23Speaker 2: n C MX five, You could get one for eight grand.
- 18:27Speaker 2: You won't get one for less than eighteen grand, no,
- 18:29Speaker 2: like they are and good ones of forty thousand dollars. Yeah,
- 18:32Speaker 2: so a good one is the same price as a
- 18:35Speaker 2: new ND. There's there's a definite. We're seeing a bit
- 18:40Speaker 2: of a ground swell. It's the SAME's happening in juel cabutes.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Like old highluxes are now worth proper money. Land cruises,
- 18:47Speaker 2: land cruises series, land cruises worth good like a good
- 18:49Speaker 2: one's worth good money.
- 18:51Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:52Speaker 3: Do you think with the current events in the world
- 18:54Speaker 3: and your sort of point that you know, an I
- 18:59Speaker 3: twenty n feels a lot more of an authentic driving experience.
- 19:02Speaker 3: But with what's going on in the world, do you
- 19:03Speaker 3: think we're now at a tipping point where we could
- 19:05Speaker 3: see electrification sort of being justifiably forced upon us in
- 19:10Speaker 3: a way, Because no.
- 19:12Speaker 4: I think people will I think there will be a
- 19:13Speaker 4: crew that will panic.
- 19:14Speaker 2: By though I heard I'm saying. The problem is the
- 19:16Speaker 2: infrastructure will never keep up if you start going through
- 19:19Speaker 2: Like I'm not no engineer at all, but if you
- 19:21Speaker 2: talk to engineers and people that work for osgrid and whatnot,
- 19:25Speaker 2: if we hypothetically you could flick a switch and we
- 19:27Speaker 2: all drove electric cars, well none of us will be
- 19:29Speaker 2: able to charge them. It's just we just don't see.
- 19:32Speaker 2: We simply don't have the infrastructure. And you can try
- 19:34Speaker 2: to improve the infrastructure, but it's just not as simple
- 19:36Speaker 2: as that. Things have to get shaped down. There was
- 19:38Speaker 2: an apartment block recently that you know, I think it
- 19:40Speaker 2: was something like twenty charging stations were put into this
- 19:43Speaker 2: apartment block, and one part of the media going, yeah,
- 19:46Speaker 2: this is awesome, and then the other part of the
- 19:47Speaker 2: media going, well, hang on.
- 19:49Speaker 4: A secon this is dangerous.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Well, they were literally just plugged into wall sockets, so
- 19:52Speaker 2: they're just trickle charges and you can't use them all
- 19:55Speaker 2: at the same time because if you use them at
- 19:56Speaker 2: the same time, no one can use their conditioning or
- 19:59Speaker 2: turn their TV on. Because it wasn't like the apartment
- 20:01Speaker 2: building got some amazing new upgrade and electricity to power
- 20:05Speaker 2: these things. No, it was just it's the the charges
- 20:08Speaker 2: sort of kinder.
- 20:09Speaker 4: And was it that an underground car park.
- 20:10Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 20:11Speaker 2: I've tried to live with evs, and from a driving experience,
- 20:14Speaker 2: I love them, and theoretically on paper great. My problem
- 20:17Speaker 2: is the apartments I've lived in, I can't charge them
- 20:20Speaker 2: like they are not You're not allowed to have a
- 20:21Speaker 2: charger in those buildings because the building's not fire rated. Yeah,
- 20:25Speaker 2: in case something goes wrong. Secondly, I remember coming back
- 20:28Speaker 2: from Canberra on a particular manufacturer's EV trip and getting
- 20:33Speaker 2: the Sutton Forest and I just need a little splash
- 20:35Speaker 2: and dash. This isn't that long ago. This is since
- 20:37Speaker 2: you know, things are getting better and the I think
- 20:39Speaker 2: it was like five charging stations at Sutton's Forest. Four
- 20:43Speaker 2: were out of order and the fifth was shaped down.
- 20:45Speaker 2: So what was supposed to be a thirty minute stop,
- 20:48Speaker 2: I was there for four hours.
- 20:49Speaker 4: Yeah, there's one just on the way here into work,
- 20:52Speaker 4: and it's a fifteen minute drive into work for me,
- 20:54Speaker 4: and that's during quite busy traffic. Really needed to charge
- 20:58Speaker 4: because I thought if I don't charge them the way there,
- 21:00Speaker 4: I won't make it home.
- 21:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:02Speaker 4: Again, I think it was that brand ev charging stations.
- 21:07Speaker 4: Five of them there, the one I put in there,
- 21:09Speaker 4: all no one was using them, plugged it in, wasn't working.
- 21:15Speaker 4: Called up the company and they're like, oh, yeah, that
- 21:17Speaker 4: one's out of order. And I'm like, well, any of
- 21:20Speaker 4: them working And he's like, let me check, No, none
- 21:25Speaker 4: of them are working. Out of the whole five, none
- 21:28Speaker 4: of them were working. And that's like credit to say
- 21:31Speaker 4: someone like Tesla, who just I think they handle their
- 21:35Speaker 4: charging stations brilliantly most of the time. I don't think
- 21:38Speaker 4: I've really ever seen one that's not working. They their
- 21:43Speaker 4: top of the chain and that sort of stuff.
- 21:44Speaker 3: But why is it that they're not working? I mean,
- 21:46Speaker 3: people vandalizing them or.
- 21:48Speaker 2: Is it just it's just bad. I think it's just
- 21:50Speaker 2: badly it's infrastructure. Yeah, I think it's just it's just
- 21:53Speaker 2: simply the infrastructure. Like you know, a lot of these
- 21:55Speaker 2: things will go to tender and the job will get
- 21:57Speaker 2: given to the cheapest possible quote that comes in, and
- 22:00Speaker 2: it's going to go wrong. I think the other thing
- 22:03Speaker 2: to worry about as well, because battery technology is getting
- 22:06Speaker 2: so much better so quickly. That means that current evs
- 22:10Speaker 2: are going to be redundant in no time. So it's
- 22:12Speaker 2: like buying an old laptop, like you're going, Okay, well,
- 22:16Speaker 2: what like the Tesla Model three from a year ago,
- 22:20Speaker 2: what's that going to be worth in another eighteen months
- 22:23Speaker 2: or two years when the latest BYD battery tech comes out.
- 22:26Speaker 4: Yeah, but it's see, that's that's the thing. I think
- 22:29Speaker 4: it's going to be similar to like the second hand
- 22:32Speaker 4: car market in a sense where I mean you're not
- 22:35Speaker 4: going to have it might be say a five year
- 22:38Speaker 4: old Tesla is not going to have the same battery
- 22:41Speaker 4: capacity as a brand new e Do you know what
- 22:43Speaker 4: I mean, it's not going to have the same health. No, don't.
- 22:45Speaker 4: I don't think.
- 22:46Speaker 2: I don't even think it's the capacity that's the issue.
- 22:48Speaker 2: I think what we're going to see is battery tech
- 22:51Speaker 2: gets so good that the current battery tech is just like,
- 22:54Speaker 2: oh my god, that's like an analog mobile phone. It's
- 22:57Speaker 2: like the charging will take too long. The I suppose
- 23:02Speaker 2: that where you know you won't get range. Not only that,
- 23:05Speaker 2: we're already seen this with some of the Tesla Model
- 23:07Speaker 2: S and x's, where the computer hardware in those cars
- 23:11Speaker 2: can't accept the latest software updates. My mate has a
- 23:14Speaker 2: Model Less and he has this problem. So there's times
- 23:17Speaker 2: where the new software updates can break certain things in
- 23:19Speaker 2: his car. He's had times where he has no climate control,
- 23:22Speaker 2: no air conditioning. There's a software update, it's like, oh,
- 23:25Speaker 2: you've got the old model okay, yeah, that computer in
- 23:28Speaker 2: your car that can't take this new software update. Again,
- 23:32Speaker 2: like a laptop, Like if you've got a ten year
- 23:34Speaker 2: old MacBook Pro, it probably won't run so well when
- 23:37Speaker 2: you get the latest greatest iOS from Apple for that laptop,
- 23:41Speaker 2: because it's the hard reson not designed to do it.
- 23:43Speaker 2: So I do worry about. And then because battery tech
- 23:47Speaker 2: is always getting better and better and better, I don't
- 23:50Speaker 2: know if we're ever going to have a point where
- 23:52Speaker 2: we go, Okay, you know this is this is pretty good.
- 23:54Speaker 2: Whereas with an internal combustion engine and hybrid, which pretty good. Yeah,
- 23:58Speaker 2: it's pretty good.
- 23:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I mean with the technology in cars
- 24:03Speaker 3: like center console screen software that does control so much
- 24:06Speaker 3: of what goes on in cars. Now, I mean it's
- 24:07Speaker 3: not just exclusively an EV problem. I mean it happened
- 24:11Speaker 3: in any type of car really. I mean I was
- 24:15Speaker 3: at a BMW event today and they were showing as
- 24:17Speaker 3: the latest and greatest features in OS nine, which is
- 24:21Speaker 3: actually not the latest version. It's now OS ten, which
- 24:23Speaker 3: is what they're putting in the Neuer Classic Electric cars.
- 24:26Speaker 3: And it's like, well, it's great that you're showing us
- 24:29Speaker 3: this older version, but I've seen a newer version and
- 24:32Speaker 3: it's even better than this.
- 24:35Speaker 2: And even that, I think it's hard because again, if
- 24:39Speaker 2: we're kind of going EV for the environment, which again
- 24:42Speaker 2: massive advocate advocate for that, my issue is if you're
- 24:46Speaker 2: buying a car for the environment, you should buy a
- 24:48Speaker 2: used hybrid ideally Alexis Toro, a Toyota because you're re
- 24:52Speaker 2: cycling a car. If you buy a new EV, does
- 24:55Speaker 2: it need to be a hybrid though, ideally yeah, because
- 24:57Speaker 2: you're using those fuel So ideally, if you buy.
- 25:00Speaker 4: If you're going to go like come play, like if
- 25:02Speaker 4: you want to go like technically completely lefty, then yeah,
- 25:05Speaker 4: you'd go maybe a hybrid. Yeah, But like I think surely.
- 25:10Speaker 4: Like the ultimate form of yeah, I mean recycling would
- 25:15Speaker 4: be a shitty old car.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Which is if you can find something that is going
- 25:18Speaker 2: to be on the road forever and require minimal maintenance
- 25:21Speaker 2: or minimal spare parts.
- 25:23Speaker 4: Yep.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Because the new EV that you buy, well, all the
- 25:27Speaker 2: battery has to come from somewhere, the manufacturing has to
- 25:29Speaker 2: come from somewhere, has to get shipped to Australia. There's
- 25:31Speaker 2: a lot of fossil fuels, a lot of things getting
- 25:33Speaker 2: ripped out of the earth to make that car. And
- 25:35Speaker 2: then you've got a car that if it's going to
- 25:38Speaker 2: be obsolete in five years time, So what happens to
- 25:42Speaker 2: it once you get rid of it? Because your leases
- 25:44Speaker 2: up because financially sometimes a lot of the time, financially
- 25:47Speaker 2: it doesn't make sense to keep an EV for any
- 25:49Speaker 2: more than five years. Yeah, so you want to flip
- 25:51Speaker 2: that lease over. If you're getting a new car every
- 25:53Speaker 2: five years or every three years, that's terrible for the environment.
- 25:56Speaker 2: Ideally you keep a car for twenty five or thirty years.
- 26:00Speaker 4: No one's doing that anymore. Like remember when it was
- 26:02Speaker 4: like a real event when someone got a new car
- 26:04Speaker 4: in the street, Like, oh fucking number two, got the
- 26:07Speaker 4: new blah blah blah. Let's go out and see it.
- 26:09Speaker 4: Like you'd go out and see it. You'd almost like,
- 26:12Speaker 4: oh dad, can we go check out blah blah blah car.
- 26:14Speaker 4: Like no one's I don't think of really keeping cars
- 26:17Speaker 4: longer than five years. These day, it's totally cool.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Just buy a used car. The car that was just
- 26:22Speaker 2: delivered to me today is from nineteen eighty four. It's
- 26:25Speaker 2: a Renau five Turbo, basically a Group B rallied. That's
- 26:29Speaker 2: also a three hundred thousand dollars car. But okay, let's
- 26:33Speaker 2: use the car I drove here in nineteen ninety seven
- 26:35Speaker 2: Gen one four three door.
- 26:37Speaker 4: Oh cool color is it?
- 26:39Speaker 2: It's bright yellow as Redriven colors.
- 26:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:42Speaker 2: Our other Redriven car is a nineteen ninety nine hond
- 26:44Speaker 2: To HIV. Both those cars are so great to drive.
- 26:48Speaker 2: There's no touch actually in that HIV. There's now a
- 26:51Speaker 2: touch screen as we put Apple car Play in it.
- 26:53Speaker 2: But the air conditioning, it's actual physical knobs. When you
- 26:56Speaker 2: slide the heat thing, you can feel mechanical bits behind
- 26:59Speaker 2: it going, and it's so satisfying to use. You can
- 27:03Speaker 2: have a new car, just don't have a new car,
- 27:06Speaker 2: just buy a cool old car and rotates through.
- 27:08Speaker 4: I think that's what's going to happen, especially with these evs,
- 27:11Speaker 4: because like the amount of dick around it is to
- 27:13Speaker 4: put the air conditioning on. It's like, I do not
- 27:17Speaker 4: get that, and don't even talk to me about safety features.
- 27:19Speaker 4: I think are doing the opposite thing, which will bring
- 27:22Speaker 4: up in a sec. But yeah, I think everything will
- 27:25Speaker 4: eventually get voice controlled, like purely just voice controlled.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely.
- 27:29Speaker 3: I think my only thing with driving potentially thirty year
- 27:32Speaker 3: old cars, and especially for younger drivers who are starting out,
- 27:35Speaker 3: which you know, are they buying thirty year old cars anymore?
- 27:37Speaker 3: I don't know, maybe not, is that if they have
- 27:41Speaker 3: an accident with a newer, bigger, more contemporary car that's
- 27:46Speaker 3: got more built in safety features, I think the old
- 27:48Speaker 3: car is going to be coming off second best.
- 27:51Speaker 2: Possibly that's a tough one because crash safety standards now
- 27:55Speaker 2: aren't necessarily based around crash results. They're based around pre
- 27:59Speaker 2: collision warning systems. So actual don't get me wrong, like
- 28:03Speaker 2: cars crashing into objects is always getting better, but as
- 28:07Speaker 2: of probably ten to fifteen years ago, pretty good, Like
- 28:10Speaker 2: a five cent in cap safety rating from ten years
- 28:12Speaker 2: ago still not too bout thirty years one hundred percent,
- 28:15Speaker 2: like you know, I would like in my little rev Yeah,
- 28:17Speaker 2: I don't want to hear anything bigger than a pigeon. Yeah,
- 28:20Speaker 2: So that's one hundred percent a thing. At the same time,
- 28:23Speaker 2: I kind of agree with you, Gordy. I think some
- 28:25Speaker 2: of the safety features that maybe making cars a little Yeah.
- 28:29Speaker 4: Here's what I don't get. Right, to get a five
- 28:31Speaker 4: star and cap safety rating, you get that by essentially software.
- 28:38Speaker 4: So you're getting that by warning systems, and you're getting
- 28:41Speaker 4: that by you know, noises and all and all. That
- 28:45Speaker 4: sort of shit is in my view, doing absolutely the
- 28:48Speaker 4: opposite of keeping you safe. It's fucking distracting.
- 28:52Speaker 3: Yeah. I was driving a MAS to BT fifty last
- 28:55Speaker 3: week and it had the most overly sensitive pre crash
- 28:58Speaker 3: warning I've ever encountered in any car, to the point
- 29:00Speaker 3: where it was just constantly slamming on the brakes at
- 29:04Speaker 3: parked cars and pedestrians not walking in front of me,
- 29:07Speaker 3: but just walking to get into their cars and then
- 29:09Speaker 3: nowhere near me. But it's going off and it scares
- 29:12Speaker 3: the life out of me when it suddenly slams the
- 29:15Speaker 3: brakes on. Yeah. Yeah, And how is that safe for anybody.
- 29:18Speaker 4: When a car can suddenly, like unfairly veer off the
- 29:23Speaker 4: road a little bit because it thinks it's straightening up,
- 29:26Speaker 4: it's like, hang on.
- 29:26Speaker 2: What are you doing?
- 29:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:27Speaker 2: It's one thing for cars to have these features where
- 29:29Speaker 2: they need to be calibrated, and that's again an an
- 29:31Speaker 2: cap thing, where and Caper saying to the manufacturers, well,
- 29:35Speaker 2: you have to have these features. So the companies just
- 29:37Speaker 2: go cool, what's the least amount of money we can
- 29:38Speaker 2: spend on these features will fit them. We just won't
- 29:41Speaker 2: spend much money calibrating them correctly, and we are seeing
- 29:45Speaker 2: improvements in that all the time. I completely agree. There
- 29:47Speaker 2: are certain cars that we drive. We did hind A
- 29:49Speaker 2: I thirty today and the lane keeperssist in that is
- 29:52Speaker 2: just horrifically aggressive. It's to a point where it feels
- 29:56Speaker 2: a bit dangerous to drive. So it would be nice
- 30:00Speaker 2: in a perfect world, I'd love to see more driver
- 30:03Speaker 2: training and more education put into driving ability and looking
- 30:08Speaker 2: at the attitudes of young drivers rather than relying on
- 30:11Speaker 2: the car doing all the hard work. I know that's
- 30:14Speaker 2: a ridiculous statement because that's never going to happen, but
- 30:16Speaker 2: I do feel that I feel like the authorities will
- 30:19Speaker 2: do everything they possibly can except say to people, you're
- 30:23Speaker 2: a ship driver, you need to improve. They will try
- 30:25Speaker 2: to fix everything else around it because it's it's really
- 30:28Speaker 2: easy to market that. It's easy to market that you're
- 30:30Speaker 2: dropping the speed limit and really to market that you're
- 30:32Speaker 2: making sure cars have all these new safety features. But
- 30:35Speaker 2: if it's an election year and you're going hete you guys,
- 30:37Speaker 2: all our voters, you're all a bit shit behind the wheel.
- 30:39Speaker 2: We need you to go and spend your own money
- 30:41Speaker 2: to go and get extra driver training. They're never going
- 30:44Speaker 2: to happen.
- 30:44Speaker 4: Yeah, And there's not going to be incentives for that.
- 30:46Speaker 4: It's no no. I think, like the end of the day,
- 30:49Speaker 4: I would love to know how the fuck and CAP
- 30:52Speaker 4: is getting by with the demands that they're making because
- 30:56Speaker 4: they're not putting out necessarily safer cars. I actually reckon
- 31:00Speaker 4: some like there's some cars that will just have a
- 31:05Speaker 4: three to four car Star and CAP safety rating because
- 31:08Speaker 4: they refuse to put certain features in their cars, and
- 31:11Speaker 4: they're actually probably a way safer for it.
- 31:14Speaker 2: I also don't think it actually makes that much of
- 31:17Speaker 2: a difference. Well, you look at the Suzuki Jimney and
- 31:19Speaker 2: the Forward Musting Chimney. They still can't make enough of
- 31:21Speaker 2: the bloody things. No terrible safety rating, No one cares,
- 31:23Speaker 2: No Ford Musting. It didn't drop any sales when it
- 31:26Speaker 2: got a one star rating?
- 31:28Speaker 4: Again, did it really? What did you get a one star?
- 31:30Speaker 2: It might not have been one star, it was it
- 31:32Speaker 2: was a really really low rating. Why again, I don't
- 31:35Speaker 2: think it was a crash thing. I think it was
- 31:36Speaker 2: a preventative at yeah, safety system tea. Yeah, yeah, it
- 31:41Speaker 2: was a while ago.
- 31:42Speaker 4: But I love the Jymneys. I've got such a soft
- 31:44Speaker 4: spot for it. Yeah yeah, but it literally like I
- 31:48Speaker 4: think they're actually I would classify that as a as
- 31:52Speaker 4: a cool car, like a cool cheap car. You can
- 31:56Speaker 4: drive around the city, You can do your commutes and stuff.
- 31:59Speaker 4: You can still get out of town if you're not
- 32:01Speaker 4: planning on going over one hundred and ten without kilometers
- 32:04Speaker 4: an hour, because they will you'll probably be blown off
- 32:08Speaker 4: the road. But it is very much like driving a
- 32:11Speaker 4: tin can. But it's also fun.
- 32:13Speaker 3: It's so capable too. I did a track day with
- 32:15Speaker 3: Suzuki last week and we did the off road course
- 32:18Speaker 3: at Sydney Motorsport Park. Did you have the Eva Tara Well, yeah, yeah,
- 32:22Speaker 3: I drove that as well. Yeah yeah. But we took
- 32:25Speaker 3: the Jymney in the in the off road course and
- 32:28Speaker 3: I was just amazed at how capable it was going up.
- 32:31Speaker 3: And the track was a bit wet because it's been
- 32:33Speaker 3: raining a lot the night before, getting seriously sideways into
- 32:36Speaker 3: the bushes at some point. But still, you know, just
- 32:40Speaker 3: go over anything, and I'm just going to look at this.
- 32:42Speaker 3: It's tiny.
- 32:43Speaker 2: Also, if you're a single man and you want to
- 32:45Speaker 2: track the opposite sex, Jimney is a car. Forget, really forget.
- 32:49Speaker 2: I have proof.
- 32:50Speaker 3: I would have said Mustang personally, Chimney.
- 32:53Speaker 2: No, I've got a great story for you. So I
- 32:56Speaker 2: had a green Lamborghini invented or for a little peer
- 33:01Speaker 2: not mine, not mine, and I.
- 33:03Speaker 4: Think I've got a feeling I reckon I know who
- 33:05Speaker 4: that could be.
- 33:06Speaker 2: My girlfriend refused to get into it. She was like,
- 33:09Speaker 2: that is hideous. That is a disgusting car.
- 33:12Speaker 4: Did you get a new girlfriend?
- 33:13Speaker 2: No, no, no, morgs. She switched on with cars. I
- 33:16Speaker 2: showed some of her friends the car. One of them said,
- 33:19Speaker 2: if you want to make sure you never ever have
- 33:20Speaker 2: sex again by Lamborghini. About two weeks later, I had
- 33:25Speaker 2: one of the first Chimney Press cars. I reckon I
- 33:27Speaker 2: could have married all those girls on the spot. It's amazing.
- 33:31Speaker 2: I think it's a weird male thing where we think
- 33:33Speaker 2: Ferraris and Lamborghinis and Porsches and anything like that's going
- 33:36Speaker 2: to get attention. No, they get negative attention. Again if
- 33:40Speaker 2: you want to, Yeah, I will not have a bad
- 33:42Speaker 2: word said about a Porsche, but I know it's one
- 33:45Speaker 2: of those things. Honestly, it's but you drive like an
- 33:49Speaker 2: old nine eleven, like an air called nine to eleven,
- 33:51Speaker 2: or a made of mine sells all sorts of crazy
- 33:56Speaker 2: high end cars, and he gets to drive McLaren's in
- 33:58Speaker 2: the whole lot. And he said to me, he said
- 34:00Speaker 2: easily in terms of you know, picking up ability easily.
- 34:04Speaker 2: The car that did it the most was an aston
- 34:05Speaker 2: Martin dB five. Oh yeah, so slow, like a current
- 34:09Speaker 2: Yaris is faster, not a gr standard bottom range Yerrais
- 34:13Speaker 2: is kicker than a Martin dB five. Yes, nothing to
- 34:15Speaker 2: with a performance, But the Jimney, the Jimney says, I'm
- 34:19Speaker 2: not compensating. I'm completely okay in my sexuality. I've got
- 34:23Speaker 2: nothing to prove here. I like adventuring, I like some
- 34:25Speaker 2: camping and going off road. It sends all the right signals.
- 34:29Speaker 4: Would you consider that the standard or XL like? Can
- 34:34Speaker 4: I put them both in the same box?
- 34:35Speaker 2: I think the three door with some all terrains and
- 34:38Speaker 2: a little lift, I think that. I think that will
- 34:40Speaker 2: you will be swatting.
- 34:43Speaker 4: I still, yeah, I still have a thing for the
- 34:45Speaker 4: four door though.
- 34:45Speaker 3: I like that. I like that.
- 34:46Speaker 4: It's just I can chuck the kid in. I didn't
- 34:48Speaker 4: check the dog in, and it's got a bit more uh,
- 34:51Speaker 4: it's got a bit more boot space.
- 34:52Speaker 2: No, I think if you're but if you're a single man,
- 34:54Speaker 2: I think you've got to go three doors.
- 34:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 34:56Speaker 2: The other cars that I've brought home that have definitely
- 35:00Speaker 2: you know, kept more happy or our female friends have gone,
- 35:03Speaker 2: oh my god, I love that, and you can tell
- 35:05Speaker 2: that they're like, you know, if I were single, there
- 35:07Speaker 2: would be hopefully some kind of interest.
- 35:09Speaker 4: Suzuki Alto works. What yep, crazy man K trucks. That's
- 35:15Speaker 4: the other one K truck. No, okay, you need you
- 35:17Speaker 4: need to leave no man K trucks. Go drive a
- 35:21Speaker 4: K truck. Will not drive a fucking K truck.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Drive a K truck through any cafe district and just
- 35:28Speaker 2: and just look at the girls. Look at look at
- 35:29Speaker 2: all the girls, women.
- 35:30Speaker 4: And Japanese girls. No, no, no, no, no, dude, you
- 35:35Speaker 4: know what it's because are you going through a Chatswood
- 35:37Speaker 4: when you drive this.
- 35:37Speaker 2: Now, it doesn't matter where you are, and it doesn't
- 35:39Speaker 2: matter what the cyber because you're not compensating. It's it's
- 35:43Speaker 2: basically going, I'm so comfortable with my own skin here,
- 35:45Speaker 2: i can drive a tiny pastel colored little truck and
- 35:49Speaker 2: it just screams.
- 35:50Speaker 4: Well that that guy's going.
- 35:51Speaker 3: They're looking at you for that reason.
- 35:55Speaker 2: It comes the pedophile and no, I've been behind, I've
- 35:59Speaker 2: seen I've been in traffic in a normal car and
- 36:02Speaker 2: seen like a K truck pull up and you go,
- 36:04Speaker 2: look at the attention this thing gets. Any any small,
- 36:07Speaker 2: boxy little car, there's.
- 36:09Speaker 4: What about a Mini? Mini?
- 36:10Speaker 2: Cooper ass old old ones, not new ones. Old ones, yeah,
- 36:13Speaker 2: old school.
- 36:13Speaker 4: Like the old old ones.
- 36:15Speaker 2: Are like pre BMW Like I'm talking like Rover Morris BMC.
- 36:20Speaker 3: Like the old old Mini.
- 36:21Speaker 2: Oh my god, maybe the coolest car ever.
- 36:24Speaker 4: Yeah, they are.
- 36:25Speaker 2: The Tiger event we just did the first two days.
- 36:28Speaker 2: We're in a Mini, a sixties Mini was a seventy
- 36:31Speaker 2: one actually, and it had a Yamaha R one motorbike
- 36:34Speaker 2: engine and reaped a fifteen thousand rpm. And that thing again.
- 36:38Speaker 2: We drove through suburbs of Melbourne to get all the
- 36:40Speaker 2: way down to the Mornington Peninsula. Yeah, every single way
- 36:44Speaker 2: you go, people are just thumbs are massively positive attention
- 36:48Speaker 2: from both sexes that thing. And I've driven I've driven
- 36:52Speaker 2: that same kind of route in a Ferrari and you
- 36:54Speaker 2: just get eyes rolling people melving wanka. Yeah.
- 36:58Speaker 4: Yeah, but it's a Ferrari. They don't know what it's
- 37:00Speaker 4: like to be in that driver's seat.
- 37:03Speaker 2: It's one of the things I could have give at
- 37:04Speaker 2: that point.
- 37:05Speaker 4: I couldn't give a shit. Dude, I'm in a Ferrari.
- 37:08Speaker 4: Go fuck yourself. But it's a thing.
- 37:10Speaker 2: Men don't want to hear McLaren's, Ferrari's, Lamborghini's, any of
- 37:14Speaker 2: those like overtly loud supercars. Then I hate to say this,
- 37:20Speaker 2: they're not cool.
- 37:21Speaker 4: Okay, here's what. Here's what I want to go around
- 37:22Speaker 4: the table with. What's the most overrated car you've ever driven?
- 37:28Speaker 4: I want to go first. I want to say the
- 37:29Speaker 4: McLaren really, yeah, fucking hated it. Hated it. I drove
- 37:34Speaker 4: it to a wedding across New South Wales and I
- 37:38Speaker 4: nearly got it bogged and I drove across the I
- 37:43Speaker 4: did a donut on the main lawn just because I
- 37:45Speaker 4: was It was a mate's wedding. I was emceeing, and
- 37:47Speaker 4: I was like, this is just I've got to fucking
- 37:49Speaker 4: go home. I was obviously drinking and I was like,
- 37:52Speaker 4: I've got a few hours to drive home, and it
- 37:55Speaker 4: was just a pain in the ass.
- 37:57Speaker 2: Which one? Which one?
- 37:58Speaker 4: Yeah, I've got a photo of it somewhere. I'm going
- 38:02Speaker 4: to find this. I'm going to find this.
- 38:05Speaker 3: I might need to pass on this for a moment
- 38:06Speaker 3: and think about it. What have I not loved?
- 38:12Speaker 4: What's something that you thought, Ah, this is going to
- 38:15Speaker 4: be baller and then you're kind of.
- 38:17Speaker 3: Gone, yeah, actually, I mean probably the one that I
- 38:21Speaker 3: thought would be good and a lot of people said
- 38:22Speaker 3: I was h awesome, it's probably the Toyota for Tuna.
- 38:27Speaker 3: I really did not enjoy driving that at all, and
- 38:29Speaker 3: I think it's the only car I've ever had on
- 38:31Speaker 3: loan that I've kind of avoided driving and gone, you
- 38:33Speaker 3: know what, I'm going to drive my Honda Civic instead,
- 38:35Speaker 3: because this is a pain. It has this weird lane
- 38:40Speaker 3: keep assist where, which you probably know more about it
- 38:42Speaker 3: than I do, where it will rather than steering you
- 38:45Speaker 3: back into the lane, it'll actually slow down the outer
- 38:48Speaker 3: wheel to force you to And it is the worst
- 38:50Speaker 3: feeling in the world. You feel like you're about to
- 38:52Speaker 3: lose control and collide into a sidewall. Yeah, was not
- 38:57Speaker 3: a fan at all, And I just thought the suspension
- 38:59Speaker 3: was all over the place. And yeah, yeah, give me
- 39:02Speaker 3: just about any other ladder frame SUV, but not that, Gordy.
- 39:08Speaker 2: That's a five forty C. I don't hate to tell
- 39:09Speaker 2: you this. That's the that's the that's the little McLaren. Yeah,
- 39:12Speaker 2: that's not the that's not the big boy seven twenty.
- 39:15Speaker 2: But funk I look good in it? You really do
- 39:17Speaker 2: suit it? Yeah, yeah, you look good.
- 39:20Speaker 4: A seven twenty is pretty wild. That's that's an amazing
- 39:22Speaker 4: it had it look, it had an unbelievable sound. Don't
- 39:24Speaker 4: get me wrong, Yeah, I just I just Okay, here's
- 39:28Speaker 4: the thing. I'm gonna say something controversial. If you put
- 39:30Speaker 4: that next to a Corvette Stingray, I'd go a sting
- 39:34Speaker 4: Ray every day.
- 39:34Speaker 3: Oh yeah, one hundred percent absolutely with you on that
- 39:37Speaker 3: I love the sting Ray. Yeah, it is such a
- 39:39Speaker 3: fun cart. Yeah. So it looks amazing.
- 39:42Speaker 4: Yeah, and it feels quality too. Yeah, you don't feel
- 39:45Speaker 4: like you're gonna like that thing had sticky buttons, stuff
- 39:48Speaker 4: that I knew needed replacing. The battery kept disconnecting. It
- 39:53Speaker 4: was just an absolute fucking punish of a car. But yeah,
- 39:56Speaker 4: that was That's my overrated car.
- 39:58Speaker 2: My mine's the event at all. I just don't even
- 40:03Speaker 2: more so. Last few months ago we shot a Lamborghinni
- 40:07Speaker 2: Mercielligo manual. That's the car. Yeah, if you want, if
- 40:11Speaker 2: you've got, if you've got invented door money or Ravelt money, whatever,
- 40:15Speaker 2: LAMBORGHINNI want. Now forget that, Buy a manual Mercielligo. That
- 40:20Speaker 2: is peak supercar. They're hard to drive.
- 40:22Speaker 3: It's actually a really shit.
- 40:24Speaker 4: I was gonna say they're quite they're quite tricky to drive.
- 40:26Speaker 2: Yeah, but that's what makes it so cool.
- 40:28Speaker 3: But it makes some tricky to drive.
- 40:30Speaker 2: Everything, steering, the gear change, the position where my leg
- 40:34Speaker 2: barely fits between the gearstick and the steering wheel. But
- 40:37Speaker 2: what I love about it is that I know my
- 40:39Speaker 2: mum could not drive that car. My mum could easily
- 40:43Speaker 2: drive an invented or she could do her groceries as
- 40:45Speaker 2: an invented door. The fact that they've become so easy
- 40:49Speaker 2: to drive that any muppet with a license can can
- 40:53Speaker 2: get behind the wheel of a current Lamborghini and have
- 40:55Speaker 2: a steer has kind of for me ruined it. I
- 40:57Speaker 2: feel like a supercar should be like a wild animal
- 41:00Speaker 2: that's barely controllable, and they're not anymore. That Mercilligo that
- 41:05Speaker 2: took You've got to have some driving chops just to
- 41:09Speaker 2: get the thing to pull away in a straight line
- 41:11Speaker 2: at sixty k an hour. You are like, oh my god,
- 41:14Speaker 2: am I going to die? And how how do you
- 41:16Speaker 2: push it? The more gives back that was such a
- 41:18Speaker 2: phenomenal experience, and that for me, that is peak supercar.
- 41:22Speaker 4: Terrible car, brilliant supercar. Do you know what was sort
- 41:26Speaker 4: of disappointing? And I hate to let people down. I'm
- 41:29Speaker 4: trying to word this carefully because it wasn't It wasn't disappointing, disappointing.
- 41:34Speaker 4: I would buy one one hundred percent. But the Testa
- 41:37Speaker 4: Rossa was one of those cars where when I was
- 41:42Speaker 4: a kid, that was the most amazing looking fucking car.
- 41:45Speaker 4: And I still look at those like I looked at
- 41:47Speaker 4: those as a kid. It's it's stunning, it's beautiful. Miami
- 41:52Speaker 4: Vice car wasn't Yeah, yeah, why one? And yeah, you
- 41:58Speaker 4: like when I hopped in that thing, it did drive
- 42:01Speaker 4: like nineteen ninety.
- 42:02Speaker 6: One, it was like, oh, I reckon, I reckon early
- 42:06Speaker 6: two thousands. So then the most of the other guys
- 42:08Speaker 6: like four five. Yeah that and not just not just
- 42:12Speaker 6: for Lamborghini, for so many cars.
- 42:15Speaker 2: That for me and maybe you know what, maybe it's
- 42:17Speaker 2: just me being old, and you know, that was kind
- 42:21Speaker 2: of my period in cars. I've driven a bunch of
- 42:23Speaker 2: Japanese performance stuff of late and that kind of Yeah,
- 42:28Speaker 2: nineteen ninety nine to about twenty ten. The two thousands,
- 42:33Speaker 2: Oh my god. Yeah, because they're modern enough that you
- 42:37Speaker 2: can go, oh, I could live with this, like this
- 42:38Speaker 2: is this is comfortable enough, this is great. But then
- 42:40Speaker 2: there's this tactility the way it does everything. There's no
- 42:43Speaker 2: computers doing anything for you, Like, if you stuff up,
- 42:45Speaker 2: you're you're done.
- 42:46Speaker 4: Yeah. I think I think that period what they excelled
- 42:49Speaker 4: in is just refinement.
- 42:51Speaker 2: All right.
- 42:51Speaker 4: There was no need for obviously there's you're going to
- 42:56Speaker 4: have computers running the thing, but there was no need
- 42:58Speaker 4: for a proper full so it's what they did. You
- 43:02Speaker 4: can appreciate the engineering that goes into that because it
- 43:05Speaker 4: was precision.
- 43:06Speaker 2: You know what's interesting. So I just did this Tiger
- 43:09Speaker 2: Classica event, probably the best I've done a bunch of motorsport.
- 43:12Speaker 2: It's easily the best motorsport event I've ever done. BMW
- 43:15Speaker 2: are one of the major sponsors of this theme, and
- 43:18Speaker 2: they had a whole bunch of influencers there and they
- 43:19Speaker 2: had M three's it. I think it's the fortieth or
- 43:21Speaker 2: fiftieth anniversary of M three coming up. So they had
- 43:24Speaker 2: everything from the E thirty all the way through to
- 43:26Speaker 2: G eight's nice and it was really interesting. All these influencers,
- 43:30Speaker 2: and you've got some influencers that have some steering shops
- 43:33Speaker 2: and others that have no steering tops, right, and all
- 43:36Speaker 2: of them came back to the car that they all
- 43:39Speaker 2: completely fell in love with, was the E forty six
- 43:42Speaker 2: or the E thirty six. Everything after that doubly is fast,
- 43:46Speaker 2: way more capable, better entertainment systems, objectively better cars. They
- 43:52Speaker 2: all loved the E forty six, which again is in
- 43:54Speaker 2: that two thousands kind of it's.
- 43:57Speaker 4: Iconic now, like you look at them.
- 43:59Speaker 3: And I don't know if you guys saw it not,
- 44:01Speaker 3: but BMW have just released the image of the new
- 44:04Speaker 3: I three, which from the rear looking at the rear
- 44:07Speaker 3: three quarter angle still has that classic three series shape
- 44:12Speaker 3: and then at the front it's doing something else that
- 44:13Speaker 3: I'm not entirely that.
- 44:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I loved it.
- 44:16Speaker 2: I'm really excited for the M three. Yeah, I love
- 44:20Speaker 2: a company that will take a risk but get it right,
- 44:22Speaker 2: unlike Keya and the Tasmin, so I feel, yeah, I'm
- 44:27Speaker 2: with you. When I first saw it, I'm like, I
- 44:29Speaker 2: don't know how I feel about this.
- 44:30Speaker 5: Do I like this?
- 44:31Speaker 3: As everyone was about the big kidney grill that they
- 44:34Speaker 3: put on the M three, the and the four series.
- 44:37Speaker 4: Isn't it interesting? Isn't it interesting? Like the last five
- 44:40Speaker 4: years with BMW, how much their design language has changed
- 44:43Speaker 4: and they've just thrown stuff out there and they're like, oh,
- 44:47Speaker 4: we'll see what sticks. And I kind of feel like
- 44:49Speaker 4: they've gone through some absolute shit. Is like this generation
- 44:53Speaker 4: will be a cheap car, and I think where they're going,
- 44:57Speaker 4: I think they're getting it really right.
- 45:00Speaker 2: I'm really excited. I'm actually really excited to see what
- 45:02Speaker 2: BMW does now. I really think they went off the
- 45:04Speaker 2: rails there for a bit. I think like the XM
- 45:06Speaker 2: is one of the most hideous vehicles ever. Sales prove
- 45:09Speaker 2: it as well. They haven't sold any and the depreciation
- 45:11Speaker 2: on them is just I play.
- 45:14Speaker 3: Charge for those too much.
- 45:16Speaker 2: I think it was three. I think they're over three.
- 45:19Speaker 2: I think three forty three fifty nude and there was
- 45:23Speaker 2: I know someone that did a trade in on one
- 45:25Speaker 2: and I think they were getting off a like one
- 45:27Speaker 2: twenty for it. Oh yeah, don't get me, don't quote
- 45:31Speaker 2: me on the numbers, but it was in that I
- 45:32Speaker 2: remember going, oh my god, it was like a two
- 45:35Speaker 2: hundred thousand dollars loss. It was something horrific. But they
- 45:39Speaker 2: didn't sell any. It's said like they there are probably
- 45:42Speaker 2: new exms of you know, a plate from two years
- 45:46Speaker 2: ago still sitting in a shed somewhere in Melbourne gathering dust.
- 45:49Speaker 2: But yeah, where BMW is going with the new IX
- 45:53Speaker 2: three and the new I three really excited.
- 45:57Speaker 3: Nine hundred k's range, that's huge on the three. That
- 46:00Speaker 3: is unbelievable full ev.
- 46:04Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, they're getting it's getting better. It's getting better.
- 46:06Speaker 4: I don't reckon it won't be too long toil. I mean,
- 46:08Speaker 4: we always held whispers of that's thousand kilometer range car.
- 46:12Speaker 4: I think Mercedes had a concept that was doing it,
- 46:14Speaker 4: and they dropped that about two years.
- 46:16Speaker 2: But then you go and get a Nissan Note, the
- 46:18Speaker 2: Nismo Nissan Note thing. We feel that it was called
- 46:23Speaker 2: twelve hundred klometers on one tank because it because that
- 46:27Speaker 2: xpower xpower, that hybrid system, this and run genius system.
- 46:32Speaker 2: It's doing like one point two leaders per one hundred
- 46:34Speaker 2: ks or something crazy.
- 46:36Speaker 4: It's yeah, yeah, but it's genius because the engine is
- 46:40Speaker 4: not attached to the wheels at all.
- 46:41Speaker 2: It's just a generator.
- 46:42Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, that's brilliant.
- 46:44Speaker 2: Yeah, so you get all the benefits of an EV
- 46:46Speaker 2: with none of the negatives.
- 46:48Speaker 4: Yeah, there is there is a few cars coming out,
- 46:50Speaker 4: like hybrids that are doing.
- 46:51Speaker 3: Up jq J seven Yeah, twelve hundred yeah.
- 46:55Speaker 4: Fo yeah, but there's no full EV's there said, there'll
- 46:58Speaker 4: be a few EV's, it'll eventually get up to a
- 47:00Speaker 4: thousand k's. But yeah, I think there's there's a few
- 47:03Speaker 4: hybrids now coming out that'll do a thousand k's on
- 47:06Speaker 4: a charge full tank. Yeah yeah, jq J seven yeah,
- 47:10Speaker 4: oh really yeah, twelve hundred all right, Jesus.
- 47:13Speaker 3: A lot of them doing Sydney Albourne trips.
- 47:15Speaker 2: Can I pause for two sects?
- 47:16Speaker 4: Yeah? Yeah, well we'll keep talking.
- 47:17Speaker 3: You go, I'll be right back. Yeah. How are you?
- 47:23Speaker 3: I'm right man, Yeah, I'm right. Yeah. What's been going on?
- 47:27Speaker 3: Enjoying your tennis court and you're have you got a
- 47:29Speaker 3: swimming pool? You do swimm pool and a tennis court?
- 47:32Speaker 4: Yeah? I living like it looks well here, don't No,
- 47:36Speaker 4: I'm in a retirement village. That's where I live.
- 47:40Speaker 3: Really, do you get to the ballroom down?
- 47:42Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 47:43Speaker 3: Me and Trev the three o'clocks sing along with Murray
- 47:47Speaker 3: comes in and sings all the old tunes.
- 47:50Speaker 5: Murray comes in, of course to shing showing she's a
- 47:54Speaker 5: strange fellow that Mary. Yah.
- 47:56Speaker 3: Don't forget eleven o'clock bingo.
- 47:58Speaker 5: It comes in with the salmon shop. Obvisually, I think
- 48:02Speaker 5: Mary might be well, I think he might be a poofter.
- 48:08Speaker 5: I think he might be he did try and grab
- 48:12Speaker 5: me on the pish.
- 48:14Speaker 3: It's if you ever knowed. Whenever they lead the police
- 48:18Speaker 3: do a story on the news and they talk about
- 48:20Speaker 3: some sort of horrible assault or whatever, the officer will
- 48:23Speaker 3: often say he was assaulted about the points. What do
- 48:27Speaker 3: you mean that's just the way that these cops talk. Yea,
- 48:32Speaker 3: he touched me on the penis touched on the points.
- 48:36Speaker 4: Oh my god.
- 48:37Speaker 3: What have you driven lately?
- 48:38Speaker 4: That's been exciting. Yeah.
- 48:40Speaker 3: I've been doing a lot of Chinese h hybrids. Super
- 48:44Speaker 3: hybrids is they like to call them.
- 48:47Speaker 4: Are they indeed super?
- 48:49Speaker 3: A lot of them very long range I mean like
- 48:51Speaker 3: the JQJ seven twelve hundred k's there was another one
- 48:54Speaker 3: I did. The trouble that I'm having and I was
- 48:58Speaker 3: talking about this Jason, who helps me a lot of
- 49:00Speaker 3: my videos, is that a lot of these cars are
- 49:02Speaker 3: so similar in the interior design and the way that
- 49:06Speaker 3: the infotainment works and the just the overall driving experience
- 49:10Speaker 3: that it's actually becoming hard to tell them part.
- 49:14Speaker 4: This J five I've got is hilarious. I think it's
- 49:17Speaker 4: like aimed at the I don't know, young family with
- 49:21Speaker 4: a kid. We're just talking about the J five marketing
- 49:25Speaker 4: it towards pet owners. Yeah, right, Like the seats are
- 49:28Speaker 4: like easy wipe or something, and the antibacterial or something
- 49:31Speaker 4: like that, so if your dog has a spew in
- 49:32Speaker 4: the back. But then I was like, what is this
- 49:35Speaker 4: thing in the back of this J five. I was like,
- 49:38Speaker 4: what the fuck is that in the boot you can
- 49:39Speaker 4: see it from the back window. It's this giant box
- 49:42Speaker 4: and I'm.
- 49:43Speaker 3: Like, what, that's where you put your child when the
- 49:46Speaker 3: naughty yeah, or your partner, Well I.
- 49:47Speaker 4: Did, I do consider it? This is my wife. She's
- 49:53Speaker 4: three foot one, yes, perfect giggity.
- 50:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 50:03Speaker 4: So yeah, I got it in a variety pack. So anyway,
- 50:11Speaker 4: I open this thing. It's like this big cage and
- 50:12Speaker 4: I'm like, and in the cage is like this plastic
- 50:15Speaker 4: it looks like a spaceman's helmet and I'm like, oh
- 50:18Speaker 4: my god. It's a giant pet Jacu branded pet carrier.
- 50:23Speaker 4: And inside it is one of those like you know
- 50:25Speaker 4: when you see like I don't know, like the Japanese
- 50:28Speaker 4: girls and they have like a cat in this little
- 50:30Speaker 4: kind of bubble thing. That's what it was like that
- 50:34Speaker 4: that's an actual jacub branded pet set up.
- 50:36Speaker 2: It does make sense because, like you know, a lot
- 50:39Speaker 2: of developing countries, the birth rate is dropping dramatically and
- 50:42Speaker 2: pet rates are through the roof, so it kind of
- 50:45Speaker 2: makes sense like the pet industry, you know. Tip from
- 50:48Speaker 2: one of my finance mates, a pet industry is really
- 50:50Speaker 2: good to invest in because a lot of people are
- 50:52Speaker 2: going well. Getting to relationships is getting harder, and the
- 50:55Speaker 2: wedding industry at the moment is seeing a thing called
- 50:57Speaker 2: the engagement drought. So we had COVID. If you were
- 51:00Speaker 2: together in COVID, chance got married. But now we're into
- 51:03Speaker 2: this period where during COVID you didn't meet anyone, so
- 51:06Speaker 2: no one's getting engaged. So wedding industry is sort of
- 51:08Speaker 2: feeling it. But everybody wants to look after something, so
- 51:13Speaker 2: pets are getting huge, So it kind of makes sense
- 51:16Speaker 2: that the car industry has gone, let's make pet centric cars.
- 51:19Speaker 4: Wow, isn't that weird that that's where we are?
- 51:22Speaker 2: Like, I just kidding.
- 51:24Speaker 3: I think it's actually a step up from the other alternative,
- 51:27Speaker 3: which is people having relationships with AI.
- 51:32Speaker 4: You're going to step up from like actually marrying my
- 51:35Speaker 4: wife and story checks out.
- 51:41Speaker 2: That's really interesting. It's yeah.
- 51:43Speaker 3: Wow.
- 51:45Speaker 2: We filmed an inios Grenadier recently which was so incredibly impressive.
- 51:49Speaker 3: Is it always it's not just a restriped No, this thing.
- 51:56Speaker 2: It's been a long time since I've gone Holy shit,
- 51:59Speaker 2: this is epic. Like every button I've never driven a
- 52:03Speaker 2: more tactile vehicle. I was trying to find reasons to
- 52:07Speaker 2: push buttons. I'm like, can I just put the hazard
- 52:09Speaker 2: lights on the switch? They're so like, they're so beautifully designed.
- 52:16Speaker 4: Is it true that they actually used helicopter switches for
- 52:18Speaker 4: those type?
- 52:19Speaker 2: But I don't know if they're actual ones, but they
- 52:21Speaker 2: feel like if I don't really fly helicopters that often. Yeah,
- 52:24Speaker 2: but would imagine it would imagine it would feel very
- 52:27Speaker 2: much like that. The whole frame is built too, like
- 52:31Speaker 2: three times levels of any other ladder frame chasy vehicle.
- 52:36Speaker 2: The suspension chin on it is absolutely wonderful. The fact
- 52:39Speaker 2: it can do what it can do off road but
- 52:41Speaker 2: then be so comfortable on road. The insulation level is
- 52:44Speaker 2: a spot on. As a company, they are on the
- 52:46Speaker 2: front foot to try to fix any issue with that thing.
- 52:49Speaker 2: It is so good. I'm not getting paid by any
- 52:52Speaker 2: I just like which I was.
- 52:54Speaker 4: They can't seem to sell them, though, can they? Well?
- 52:56Speaker 2: I think hopefully hopefully people watching that video for US
- 53:00Speaker 2: has gone gamebusters like numbers under great yea and the
- 53:04Speaker 2: guys from Ineos like they actually reached out the first
- 53:06Speaker 2: time a car company's gone hey was what I did.
- 53:08Speaker 2: I'll get on the owners groups and I go, hey,
- 53:10Speaker 2: we're doing this video as the owners group, giving me
- 53:13Speaker 2: some feedback, what should we mention? What do you love?
- 53:15Speaker 2: What do you hate? And the INEOSK guy's got in touch, going, hey,
- 53:19Speaker 2: we've noticed you in the owners groups. Love the channel.
- 53:22Speaker 2: If we can help in any way, love to chat.
- 53:24Speaker 4: So absolutely.
- 53:25Speaker 2: I spoke to a couple of them and went through
- 53:26Speaker 2: some engineering stuff and I asked about, you know, the
- 53:29Speaker 2: backup service and what happens with parts was a brand
- 53:31Speaker 2: new company and it was so impressive, and they were
- 53:34Speaker 2: saying they were excited for the video because they're finding
- 53:37Speaker 2: a lot of people are going, oh, I'd love to
- 53:39Speaker 2: buy one, but I don't know how they're going to
- 53:41Speaker 2: go long term.
- 53:41Speaker 4: What are they like after four or five years? And
- 53:43Speaker 4: the great news is they're fantastic. Yeah they've nowl so
- 53:46Speaker 4: been kicking around for about what five six years?
- 53:49Speaker 2: About that? Yeah, but that's yeah, it's funny. Getting back
- 53:53Speaker 2: to the pet friendly cars. One thing I loved about
- 53:57Speaker 2: the Grenadier. It feels like every thinking that thing is
- 54:00Speaker 2: so considered. It feels like every possible piece of trim
- 54:04Speaker 2: someone's really thought that through. So you get in the
- 54:07Speaker 2: back you can wash the whole car rut and just
- 54:08Speaker 2: hose it out. It's great, like an old's called to
- 54:10Speaker 2: fend out exactly a way better. Yeah, and it just
- 54:13Speaker 2: it just feels so tough and strong in everything it does.
- 54:17Speaker 2: And I would love to see pet centric cars where
- 54:20Speaker 2: the back of the car is like, yeah, my Dobeman
- 54:23Speaker 2: can try to tear this thing apart, but it's so
- 54:25Speaker 2: considered and just solid. Nothing bad is gonna happen.
- 54:28Speaker 4: Can they? Are they all they're all manual? Right?
- 54:31Speaker 5: No?
- 54:31Speaker 3: No?
- 54:31Speaker 5: No.
- 54:33Speaker 2: BMW engines so BMW B fifty eight and B fifty seven,
- 54:36Speaker 2: so that's the diesel and petrol through that are six
- 54:39Speaker 2: show six great engine massively detuned, so it's understressed. Yeah,
- 54:44Speaker 2: funnily enough if you theoretically could put a tune through
- 54:46Speaker 2: it and have an eight hundred horse power in your
- 54:48Speaker 2: scrennity no dramas. Yeah, thatsf auto is unbelievably tough. I
- 54:52Speaker 2: think it runs Borg Warner diffs. It could be wrong
- 54:55Speaker 2: about that, but everything in that drive line is designed
- 54:59Speaker 2: to to deal with insane conditions. UK special forces are
- 55:04Speaker 2: using it. It is an exceptionally good vehicle.
- 55:07Speaker 3: What do they actually manufacture them.
- 55:09Speaker 2: Belgium, right, and they are cool my France friends friends,
- 55:13Speaker 2: Yeah was that?
- 55:14Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 55:14Speaker 4: The owner the owner's French, right, No, he's English, he's English.
- 55:19Speaker 4: Because what was there like that story that he tried
- 55:22Speaker 4: to buy the Defender sector of Landrover because they were
- 55:26Speaker 4: going to like phase that old school Defender out.
- 55:28Speaker 2: Exactly they the new Defender came out, and there was
- 55:32Speaker 2: a period there where we knew that the new Defender
- 55:35Speaker 2: was not going to be anything like the old Defender.
- 55:36Speaker 2: So Sir Jim Ratcliffe is his name. He made his
- 55:39Speaker 2: money in Ineos Chemicals, which was a massive chemical company,
- 55:43Speaker 2: and he basically went to land Rover and said, well,
- 55:45Speaker 2: can I buy the licensing to make Defenders? Because he's
- 55:49Speaker 2: a massive Defender fan, as all his mates at the pub,
- 55:52Speaker 2: and they went no, He's like cool, I'll go build
- 55:55Speaker 2: my own. And he just went and went I'm going
- 55:57Speaker 2: to build a better Defender.
- 55:59Speaker 3: Oh so it's comp letly, it's not like hidden by
- 56:01Speaker 3: the tooling or the molds or anything like that.
- 56:04Speaker 2: It start scratch, started from scratch, complete new vehicle.
- 56:08Speaker 4: And he builds like a massive, massively expensive factory for
- 56:13Speaker 4: it too.
- 56:14Speaker 2: This is how good they are. And again I am
- 56:16Speaker 2: not being paid at all. They've never given me a
- 56:19Speaker 2: press car. I have no This is hand on heart,
- 56:22Speaker 2: complete honest thing. It's it's so good to a point
- 56:26Speaker 2: where some of the employees that are on the owners groups,
- 56:28Speaker 2: I'll go, you know, they're all full driving nuts. One
- 56:31Speaker 2: of them broke something on the back of the the
- 56:35Speaker 2: I think the ute version of it, the quartermaster, and
- 56:38Speaker 2: then got on the owners group said hey, guys, just
- 56:40Speaker 2: want to let you know this happened here and it
- 56:43Speaker 2: broke here. Of let the engineering team know they're working
- 56:46Speaker 2: on a new part to replace it. We'll get that
- 56:49Speaker 2: out to everybody so that part doesn't break for you.
- 56:52Speaker 3: They are.
- 56:52Speaker 2: That's how on the front foot they are. That's called
- 56:54Speaker 2: the other story that was amazing. There was a guy
- 56:56Speaker 2: in northern Queensland that had lifted his grenadier to a
- 57:01Speaker 2: point that it shouldn't have been warranted anymore as a
- 57:03Speaker 2: liftkit that the company doesn't say okay too. He was
- 57:06Speaker 2: running thirty three in mud tires doing some insane trail
- 57:09Speaker 2: up north of Cape York, broke a drive shaft, got
- 57:13Speaker 2: on the owner's group. This is like Wednesday, Wednesday afternoon,
- 57:16Speaker 2: gets on the owner's group, going believe, didn't didn't mention
- 57:20Speaker 2: anyone that it was modified Pauly and was running these tires.
- 57:25Speaker 2: The guy that runs in US here in Australia saw
- 57:27Speaker 2: it pop up in the owners group. He shipped the
- 57:29Speaker 2: new drive shaft to the repair shop that it was
- 57:32Speaker 2: at in northern Queensland, not only from the Melbourne part center,
- 57:36Speaker 2: but also from the Belgium on and the one in
- 57:38Speaker 2: the US because sometimes they can land in Queensland faster
- 57:41Speaker 2: than the Melbourne stuff. Wow, the part arrived I think
- 57:46Speaker 2: it is the mid morning the next day. The mechanic
- 57:49Speaker 2: got working on it on the Thursday afternoon. The guy
- 57:52Speaker 2: was back on the road Friday morning with a new
- 57:54Speaker 2: drive shaft on a vehicle. They shouldn't have warranted find me.
- 57:58Speaker 2: Any other company will do that, and likely the guy
- 58:01Speaker 2: got on the owners group and also Inos didn't say
- 58:04Speaker 2: to this guy, hey, can you now retract your statement? No,
- 58:07Speaker 2: the guy got on there went you know, this is amazing.
- 58:09Speaker 2: The customer service is incredible. I'm back on my adventure. Man,
- 58:13Speaker 2: this I cannot rave enough about any.
- 58:16Speaker 4: So if I was to get into one, what would
- 58:17Speaker 4: you recommend?
- 58:19Speaker 2: Well, because they're so customizable, No two are really the same.
- 58:23Speaker 4: Well, where's a good starting point?
- 58:25Speaker 2: So price wise used about I think they around the
- 58:28Speaker 2: low eighties. They top out at about like if you
- 58:31Speaker 2: go full on with options, about one hundred and thirty.
- 58:34Speaker 2: But if you look at it versus a seventy series
- 58:36Speaker 2: land Cruiser, which is the market leader in that part,
- 58:39Speaker 2: the Ineos comes with more standard kit than the seventy series,
- 58:42Speaker 2: to the point that if you you'd have to modify
- 58:45Speaker 2: a seventy series to match the Inos, but to do that,
- 58:48Speaker 2: it's going to cost you two hundred thousand dollars the
- 58:51Speaker 2: amount of stuff you've got a bolt to a seventy series,
- 58:53Speaker 2: You're so much better off just buying an ineoscreen a Deer.
- 58:56Speaker 2: It's all warranted, it's all tested, it's all calibrated to
- 58:59Speaker 2: work with each.
- 59:00Speaker 3: How does JLR feel about all of this? I mean
- 59:02Speaker 3: it's sort of is it their ip in a way.
- 59:05Speaker 2: Or I think they've gone they're doing we don't give
- 59:07Speaker 2: a shit about people that actually want to go full driving.
- 59:09Speaker 2: They're a fashion brand, They're like, they don't.
- 59:12Speaker 3: You can see that with Jaguar.
- 59:14Speaker 4: You can sort of see it. Yeah, but I can
- 59:16Speaker 4: I can see what you're saying because you can see
- 59:17Speaker 4: that with the new Defender as well, Like it's a
- 59:20Speaker 4: stunning looking car. I quite like it, and a lot
- 59:22Speaker 4: of people don't, but I like it. But beautiful to drive,
- 59:25Speaker 4: yeah yeah, it's amazing. Terrible to own, yeah yeah, but
- 59:30Speaker 4: yeah it's also one of those cars like it's almost
- 59:33Speaker 4: like gone to the point where the Defender is now
- 59:38Speaker 4: like a Porsche Cayenne thing because it's like an off
- 59:44Speaker 4: roady car but you're too afraid to put a scratch
- 59:46Speaker 4: on it. Yeah, And it's just super sad because like
- 59:48Speaker 4: they if it's got a range Rover orlandro a Badge,
- 59:50Speaker 4: it can go off road.
- 59:52Speaker 2: None of them do, and that's so sad. It's kind
- 59:54Speaker 2: of like going to a Gordon Ramsey restaurant ordering the best,
- 59:57Speaker 2: like taking a photo of it and not eating it.
- 59:59Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a pointless I've eaten his steaks a shit house, really, yeah,
- 1:00:03Speaker 4: I'll tell you can I want to deviate for a sake.
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: I took a girl to that Gordon ramsays, like when
- 1:00:10Speaker 4: it was in Melbourne and it was the White Steakhouse.
- 1:00:13Speaker 4: No thanks, right, no, this is obviously before. But yeah,
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: she was a vegetarian, right, she was a vegetarian and
- 1:00:22Speaker 4: I took her to this steak place and I called
- 1:00:24Speaker 4: the head saying, do you have vegetarian options?
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: Yeah, of course, of course, of course. So we get there,
- 1:00:30Speaker 4: I get this steak, which at the time was like
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: it ended up it was a It was something like
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: eighty dollars and that was just a steak. So then
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: you've got a I had to pay like twenty bucks
- 1:00:40Speaker 4: for the sauces, and then like another like fifteen dollars
- 1:00:43Speaker 4: for chips. Right, so steak and hit. It ended up
- 1:00:46Speaker 4: costing like one hundred and twenty hundred and thirty bucks.
- 1:00:48Speaker 4: And then we get there and there's like no vegetarian options.
- 1:00:54Speaker 4: I'm like, you said there was vegetarian options. I called
- 1:00:56Speaker 4: a head, and the lady's like, oh, well, we have fish.
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: And she's like, and I'm looking at her. She goes,
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: it's fine, I eat fish every couple of years. It's okay.
- 1:01:07Speaker 4: So she gets like this flounder and I'm eating this
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: pretty fucking average steak, just oily, and it was a mess.
- 1:01:16Speaker 4: She's eating this fish and all of a sudden she
- 1:01:18Speaker 4: goes pale, and pale for a vegetarian is even more pale.
- 1:01:22Speaker 4: It's like vampire. Yeah, you can say, right, throw her.
- 1:01:25Speaker 4: And so I'm like, what's wrong? And she goes there
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: meeting this fish. I'm like, what do you mean there's
- 1:01:30Speaker 4: meeting this fish? You've had two bytes? She literally had
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: two bytes and she pulled up like the flounder, and
- 1:01:35Speaker 4: underneath the flounder was like this choreso salady sort of stuff.
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: She was having chunks of chesa. I'm like, Gordon Ramses
- 1:01:43Speaker 4: restaurants suck balls, and they mad. I told them, I said,
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: I'm not gonna I'm not gonna pay for that, and
- 1:01:49Speaker 4: then they made me sit in the lounge till they
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: figured the bill out. I was like, pah, this place,
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: this place sucks. So anyway, Gordon Ramsey story. But keep going.
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: As were saying for about you know, people buying Jimneys
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: don't care about an cap safety ratings. People that buy
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: land Rovers and rain drovers don't care about reliability and
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: build quality. Yeah it's amazing. You know, we should have
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: Vla recently. And you just go like a Kia has
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: far superior build quality, like fast really, oh my god.
- 1:02:17Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a stunning car. I love those cars. They
- 1:02:21Speaker 4: were grace to drive.
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: Look if image and projecting a sense of success is
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: the top priority.
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: Great car to buy, That's fine, They're pretty underpowered.
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: I mean, the whole thing is I just it's funny
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: like before Redriven, I loved rain Driver and Land I
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: would I would have had a disco for in a heartbeat,
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: I love I Love the New Defender, and then Redriven happened,
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: and I start researching what happens to cars after you
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: own them, and I just go there is no way,
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: there's no way I would buy anything from that company.
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: I am. Here's a tip for young players. If you
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: have a three door Defender, do not put your elderly
- 1:02:59Speaker 3: mother in the back seat on Christmas Day because you
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: can't get her out again.
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: Yeah, well that sounds like a good idea if.
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: I had to.
- 1:03:11Speaker 4: You want to get rid of the car and the
- 1:03:13Speaker 4: mother in law, Yeah, it sounds good.
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: I could not push the front seat forward enough for
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: her to get out. She somehow managed to get in,
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: and I ended up having to open the rear tailgate.
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: You're going to say that and lower the back seat
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: swing her around so feet first. It was. I was
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: actually thinking at one point, oh my god, I'm going
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: to have to call the sees and get them to
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: cut her out of the car. And I also have
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: to apologize to JLRS, sorry I couldn't get my mother
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: out of the car.
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: It's one of those things, the thing that really shocks
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: me every time we do any JLR product. You get
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: through the owners scripts, right and you and you're seeing
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: people going, oh, you know, they don't deserve the terrible
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: reputation title at all. Like, you know, I've had one
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: for you know, a thousand cars and haven't had a
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: problem except obviously when the entertainment system should itself and
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: this and this and this. I guy literally send me
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: a private message on Facebook from one of the owners
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: groups doing exactly this, And you're like, but these aren't
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: normal things like that shouldn't happen to a car. But
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: then you've got to remember these people have probably never
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: owned a Prido or a Pagero. If you come from
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: a Mitsubishi Pagero, like an old one, and you get
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: into a landro you're going to be going why do
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: things suddenly stop working?
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: You know, I still think with the land Rover example,
- 1:04:33Speaker 4: it is a bit of a lucky dip. I mean, look,
- 1:04:35Speaker 4: I haven't done the research like you've done your research,
- 1:04:37Speaker 4: but it might feel like a bit of a lucky dip.
- 1:04:39Speaker 4: Like you put out, you know, three thousand cars, you're
- 1:04:44Speaker 4: going to get five that are famously absolute shit boxes. Right,
- 1:04:48Speaker 4: But you look on car sales or whatever, and you
- 1:04:50Speaker 4: look at these cars going right now, like a really
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: cool sort of Princess Diana Speck style land rover, right,
- 1:04:58Speaker 4: amazingly cool, right, get like there's people that will do
- 1:05:01Speaker 4: like Tartan interior and stuff. They're so fucking cool. You
- 1:05:06Speaker 4: can't get one that's done under two hundred, two hundred
- 1:05:09Speaker 4: and fifty.
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: The old SEUs great and and there's a really great
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: resto mod scene there. Like you if you rip the
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: engine out and put like an LS out of a
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: Commodore in it, then fantastic. You know, it would been
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: better put a V eight from a Toyota or Alexis
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: in it. That is maybe the perfect car. Those old
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: scorns are cool because there's not too many electronics. There's
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: not too many modules that have to talk to each other.
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: It's the newer ones that are the problem. And look
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: one hundred percent there are plenty of owners that have
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: never and will never ever ever have a problem. There
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: are some faultless examples out there. It's just the risk
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: of it. Because the one the disco for that we
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: shot my mate. My mate's dad owned that. He was
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: fastidious with maintenance, like absolutely ahead of schedule. They've got
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: these ridiculous extended service schedules that ruined cars. But he
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: knew that, so he serviced it. He hadn't gave it
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: to his son when he bought an Innios Grenadier Funnily enough,
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: so you've got a card to a perfect service history
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: catastrophic engine failure out of nowhere, thirty thousand dollars bill
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: and it just and this is a car that was
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: perfectly maintained, never told a thing. It did a couple
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: of long trips when I say long, like up to
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: Coughs or maybe down to Kayama. Nothing too crazy, not
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: too much off roading, but used regularly. So not a
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: garage queen that's going to blow up anyway. It just
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: you just you run this gamble of going. But find
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: me an FJ cruiser from Toyota that's ever had a
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: catastrophic engine failure. Does not happen. I think the other
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: thing as well, you've got the depreciation when it comes
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: to landrover and range rover as well, like they hemorrhage
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: money in depreciation, So well, how much is the image
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: of that vehicle and the cool factor actually worth you
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: because a pagero does the same thing, just better without
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: all the bullshit and the pagero Yeah. Also gonna remember
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: I'm from Newcastle, so we just don't buy into the
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: bullshit brand stuff. I don't give a shit what brand
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: name is written on it. I see friends going I've
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: got a methadis you should have bought a Toyota.
- 1:06:59Speaker 3: I was your castle. Recently it is becoming a little
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: There were some very cool looking boutiques and nice places
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: to eat have changed since.
- 1:07:11Speaker 4: He pretends he's like a black tea, but he loves
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: his latte with Yeah, I.
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: Go a double ostrato or three quarter oat flats that. Yeah,
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: I'm a complete winker when it comes to coffee. I'll
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: apologize before I put my order in. I'll genuinely go,
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: I'm so sorry about this. This is who I am.
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: I'm so sorry, and I think you.
- 1:07:33Speaker 3: Just need to own it. You just need to walk
- 1:07:35Speaker 3: in and go this is what I want.
- 1:07:37Speaker 4: I love a murk.
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: I've never told anyone this, you know, this is how
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: bad it is. I'll walk in and I'll look at
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: the hop, which is where the beans are held, and
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: the condition of that hop and how many beans are
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: in it versus how busy the establishment is will dictate
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: what I order. So if it's super clean and there's
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: hardly any beans in it, but it's also pretty busy,
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: that's a good coffee joint because they're grinding for the
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: condition at the time. So I'll go, Okay, that's when
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: I UTU a pretentious, wanky coffee. But if I walk
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: in in the hops full of beans a little bit
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: dirty place, isn't that busy? I was get a note
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: flat white. Yeah, that's safe.
- 1:08:13Speaker 4: Do you know where do you find Like when you're overseas,
- 1:08:15Speaker 4: the coffee tastes way differently. Sometimes it's absolutely shiit house,
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: all right, but for some reason it makes it really great. Like,
- 1:08:25Speaker 4: the worst coffee I've ever had was in Hawaii, and
- 1:08:27Speaker 4: I'm sitting there, like day one. This is just sewerage dirt, like,
- 1:08:32Speaker 4: I'm pretty sure.
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: And Hawaii probably has the best American coffee. Ironically, Yeah,
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure.
- 1:08:38Speaker 4: There was a like an old, an old woman living
- 1:08:42Speaker 4: in that coffee machine, and she was just diarrhering. You
- 1:08:46Speaker 4: know what, by day three, I fucking love that.
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: That's how they get it, you know that that other
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: coffee they get the animal. Yeah yeah, and they just
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: used the old woman. Yeah yeah.
- 1:08:58Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: This is the pretentious I am when it comes to coffee.
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: So anytime we travel, I'll then Morgan is as bad
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: as I am. Now, will research where the best coffee
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: places are and will sometimes book our accommodation. When we
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: were in Tokyo and we've stayed in Shaboya, but we
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: stayed in this particular Airbnb and Shaboya because there's a
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: coffee roaster two blocks away which is probably one of
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: the best coffee roasters in Tokyo. That's how bad I am.
- 1:09:26Speaker 3: You are so Sydney, dude, this is the most Sydney conversation.
- 1:09:32Speaker 4: Such a pain in the art.
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: I am a pain of the ark. I've said to
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: you before everything I buy, everything I bought, I said
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: to Gordy before I bought a backpack. Recently, it took
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: me three or four months to research the backpack.
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: Actually I relate, Yeah, I can. I kind of go
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: down those rabbit holes to not backpacks, but with other things.
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: Watches, Yeah, watches. I'm likely I've got to I've got
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: to watch deal now. This is the Lovely Boys at
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: erabas so Jody from the YouTube channel just one more watch.
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: This is his, This is he and another guy. They
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: have this Arabis brand, Aussie brand that's a really nice
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: what more Japanese internals. I'm not going to go on
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: about watches because this is not a watch channel. But yeah,
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: I'm actually a lot.
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: Of watch appreciation with our listeners. Amongst our listeners, cars
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: and watches they do go hand in hand. Literally, Yeah,
- 1:10:22Speaker 4: I'm really not when we finish it, I'm really going
- 1:10:24Speaker 4: to look into that. I really want to look at.
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: The Actually I haven't announced it yet. Oh I'm suppsed
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: to announce this on Monday. I don't know when this
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: pod goes out.
- 1:10:32Speaker 4: I love that it's been done on this podcast.
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: Redriven Redriven are now exclusively Erebus were Erebus Erebus wearers.
- 1:10:40Speaker 4: So okay, can I just say he didn't pronounce your brand,
- 1:10:43Speaker 4: run so Erebus if you want to like extend it out, Well,
- 1:10:48Speaker 4: this is a heavy watch.
- 1:10:49Speaker 5: It feels good.
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: That's the Titan. That's a fantastic forty one.
- 1:10:53Speaker 4: Got hang on, wait, wait, wait, let's just listen to
- 1:10:56Speaker 4: this spin you ready?
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: Oh that is satisfying.
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: We're turning a combination lock on a safe in a
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: ninety six spy film. Yeah, I think, God, he needs
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: a moment alone with your watch.
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: It's okay.
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: There's plenty of cameras in here.
- 1:11:17Speaker 4: Yeah, it's in this safe the Cure for Cancer and
- 1:11:24Speaker 4: this is where we end the podcast.
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: In start bond. Solution to a cancer is in this
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: if you can crack it open.
- 1:11:33Speaker 4: Thanks for that, Alex.
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: Yeah, that's great. I'm available for voice.
- 1:11:36Speaker 4: That's beautiful.
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: Yeah again, Ossie, guys, they're they're bloody awesome.
- 1:11:41Speaker 4: I love, I love.
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: It's funny. But the massive than of Jody's channel again,
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: just one one more watch on YouTube. And we've become mates,
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: you know, and we sort of confide in each other
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: about you know, YouTube stresses and getting torn apart in
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: the comments and trolls and whatnot. So it's and we
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: have become great friends. And I've always loved Erebus, and
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: I've got a bunch of other watchers. But yeah, I
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: was honored when they were like, hey, you know, you
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: wear them all the time. You want to wear them exclusively.
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: I'm like yes, that would be bloody awesome. So yeah,
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: so yeah, now I am only wearing erebus this guy.
- 1:12:14Speaker 3: What do you get torn apart with on comments on YouTube?
- 1:12:17Speaker 3: Generally speaking?
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: What people fire up about? Where do we start? Okay,
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: so there's two categories. You've got the category of people
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: that I genuinely feel sorry for. I have nothing but
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: empathy for the people that rip me off about my
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: pants or my hair, or my voice, or my shirt
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: or anything to do hardcore like hard but I go,
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: how sad is this person's life that the one bit
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: of enjoyment they get is abusing a stranger on the internet.
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: I genuinely feel empathetic towards these people. Then you've got
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: the other the car people that get offended when we
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: say things about their car. And now we understand this
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: because a car is the second biggest financial decision you're
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: probably ever going to make. Right with the house, you
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: buy the house you can afford, simple as that, with
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: a car, even if you say you're not a car person,
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: you are kind of buying a car that kind of
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: represents you. When it's a niche, enthusiast vehicle, like a
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: full drive or a performance car, it is definitely representing you,
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: and I stand there going, this is a piece of shit.
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: You shouldn't buy it. It's kind of like, I'm going,
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: you're a piece of shit, You're an idiot, you shouldn't
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: have bought this car. So I get why they get
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: defensive about what we say, and we're trying to always
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: improve our language around the videos to be you know, going, yeah, okay,
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: it is shit, but we totally get why you buy one.
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: So I understand why we why we cop the hate
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: we do. Likely it's it's mainly positive comments more than
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: negative comments. But yeah, the I got on John Knogan
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: and I are doing a podcast together now, and one
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: of the first comments was like that. It was like,
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: I can't believe it. The two worst car reviewers on
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: YouTube doing a podcast together. How do I switch off?
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: I'm like, I'm not part of this show. I'm like,
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: but you commented on the video.
- 1:13:58Speaker 4: It's so weird. Yeah, that's weird, because yeah, how do
- 1:14:01Speaker 4: I switch off? Well, you've clearly gone to the point
- 1:14:04Speaker 4: where not only have you watched it, you've also commented.
- 1:14:08Speaker 3: No one's forced you to listen or watch. And I
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: always find it interesting too, these people who really will
- 1:14:15Speaker 3: write an essay about everything that you've done wrong and
- 1:14:18Speaker 3: how you're wrong and that's not right and if you
- 1:14:20Speaker 3: only knew, and you clearly haven't done your research, which
- 1:14:23Speaker 3: has got to be the worst three words have ever
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: been thrown together in a sentence by humanity. Yeah, for me,
- 1:14:32Speaker 3: I find that the things that you get people fought
- 1:14:35Speaker 3: up is when if I criticize a cheaper Chinese car,
- 1:14:40Speaker 3: especially the people who've bought one of those, tend to
- 1:14:43Speaker 3: get very upset. But I mean, the point I always
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: try to make is that I drive a number of
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: different cars from a number of different car makers in
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: the same sort of you know area, and there are
- 1:14:54Speaker 3: other cars who do this better than this one. Yes,
- 1:14:57Speaker 3: you've saved a lot of money buying this whatever it is.
- 1:15:00Speaker 3: Have al jolly on, let's just say, but there are
- 1:15:04Speaker 3: other ones that are much better, and you haven't driven
- 1:15:07Speaker 3: all of those. Yeah, and if you had, you might
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: agree with me.
- 1:15:09Speaker 5: Well.
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: A great example of exactly that we shot a Polestar two.
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: I think it was made of mine. Ben owns it.
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: Great wedding photographer if anyone needs a wedding photographer. Ben
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: Helen legend, and he was raving about how great this
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: car is. And I hadn't written, hadn't driven a Polster.
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: I'm a bit of a closet Volvo fanboy. I have
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: had an eight fifty R and I had Volvers in
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: our family. And I was very excited to do the Pollster.
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: And I cannot tell you how much he raved about
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: this thing. And he's had it for a while and
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: drove it, and I was just, it's not a bad car,
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: but it's certainly not a good car. It's a car.
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: It exists. Yeah, and that's about the best thing I
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: can say about it. Yeah. And I went back to him. He's, oh, yeah,
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: what do you think. What do you think? It is amazing? Hey?
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: And I said how many cars have you driven? And
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: he's like three?
- 1:15:53Speaker 3: And I yeah.
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: I said, if you want to keep loving the Polster,
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: don't drive anymore. He said, oh, what do you mean,
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: late dude. It's fine, it's fine. Yeah, but it's not.
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: It's not it's not like due, don't don't drive Alexis
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: n X. Whatever you do, don't drive that. But you
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: you'll get rid of the Polstone a heartbeat.
- 1:16:10Speaker 4: Yeah, it's the interior and it kind of has that
- 1:16:14Speaker 4: ikea vibe about it.
- 1:16:15Speaker 3: I've so scammy.
- 1:16:16Speaker 4: Ye I've often thought who would own one of these
- 1:16:19Speaker 4: cars because like it feels like you're driving like the
- 1:16:23Speaker 4: conference room of an airport sort of travel lodge, and
- 1:16:27Speaker 4: it's it's very it's just straight up and down. Like
- 1:16:31Speaker 4: there's nothing brilliant about it. There's nothing terrible about it.
- 1:16:35Speaker 4: And that's the problem. It's so boring in that respect,
- 1:16:39Speaker 4: Like even if there was shit terrible about it, at
- 1:16:41Speaker 4: least that would be they would cause some sort of
- 1:16:45Speaker 4: emotion within me.
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: It's just it's just it's a very convincing appliance.
- 1:16:48Speaker 4: Yeah, that's all it is.
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: It's it's yeah, I'm not I'm not going to rag
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: on it. It's not a bad car, no, but yeah.
- 1:16:57Speaker 3: I'd find interesting how like Volvo have a differentiate the
- 1:17:00Speaker 3: two brands because there is now so much crossover between them,
- 1:17:03Speaker 3: and there is now Yeah, the ES ninety the sedan,
- 1:17:08Speaker 3: I mean, they charge a lot more for it, I
- 1:17:10Speaker 3: think than what Polestar do. But it is it looks
- 1:17:14Speaker 3: well less like a Polestar.
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it's funny, isn't. It's like here in here, and
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: they did such a better job at differentiating the two.
- 1:17:19Speaker 4: Yea.
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: Even Lexus and Toyota, but yeah, you're right, like Polestar
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: and Volver It's like, hang on, they're the same, aren't
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: they Like yeah, sure, But then maybe because we're car guys,
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: we we know that.
- 1:17:31Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: I'm amazed when people can't believe. Like I've had friends
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: of friends who have bought an Ouda three and I'll
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: start talking Aboutvolkswagen golfs and they're like, what do you mean,
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: what do you mean there's the same and it's the
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: same car. It's got a different different body, panels and interior,
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: but underneath it's the same car, and they can't believe them. Like,
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: you know, Volkswagen owns just like we take it as
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: just standard given. Yeah, but a lot of people don't
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: realize that stuff. Yeah.
- 1:17:55Speaker 4: I do love those videos that you say, where it's
- 1:17:57Speaker 4: like they'll pull out, pull pull apart like a Lamborghini
- 1:18:01Speaker 4: or something and find outy bits in like the on
- 1:18:04Speaker 4: the lights and stuff.
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: We did a video ages ago where we found out
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: that the park break the park break caliper brake pad
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: on an invented door is exactly the same as the
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: tire a particular tire now on the Volkswagen. That part
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: is like forty nine dollars. Have you guess how much
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: the Lamborghini part was at a zero? At least two
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: and a half thousand dollars?
- 1:18:29Speaker 4: Yeah, who's that guy?
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: Matt Armstrong?
- 1:18:31Speaker 4: Mad Armstrong. Yeah, he's extraordinary the way he will go through. So,
- 1:18:37Speaker 4: this guy Matta Armstrong, what he does is here he
- 1:18:40Speaker 4: gets a ridden off, ridden off like supercar from Rari Lamborghini.
- 1:18:45Speaker 4: He had that. I think he had a horror he
- 1:18:48Speaker 4: had a Hurrican. What did he have where he bought
- 1:18:51Speaker 4: it from that experience company? Yeah, he's just finished an
- 1:18:54Speaker 4: invented anyway. So it's extraordinary to watch this guy because
- 1:18:59Speaker 4: he came from like as a bus boy or something
- 1:19:02Speaker 4: like that, washing dishes, and what he would do was
- 1:19:05Speaker 4: in his spare time, like his breaks and stuff, he
- 1:19:07Speaker 4: would film himself repairing like an Audi TT something like that.
- 1:19:11Speaker 4: And eventually he worked up to this like a supercar.
- 1:19:15Speaker 4: And as he pulls his supercar apart, he's like, fuck,
- 1:19:18Speaker 4: I need a new parking brake or like a new
- 1:19:21Speaker 4: parking light globe or this and that, and he'll go, oh,
- 1:19:25Speaker 4: it's three hundred dollars for this light globe if I
- 1:19:29Speaker 4: bought it from Lamborghini. But if I bought it from Audi,
- 1:19:33Speaker 4: it's sixty cents, you know, Like.
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: He's doing a Chiron at the moment. So he's doing
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: a full rebuild of a Chiron.
- 1:19:40Speaker 4: Wow.
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: The I think the air bag, I know, the air
- 1:19:45Speaker 2: bag like units, let's call them from an Audi A three.
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: The steering pump I think is from a Volkswagen Passat. Wow,
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: there's a Chiron and it's got Volkswagen and Audi parts
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: in it. But even closer to home. So Jim ol mechanic,
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: this is a great one. He had a funnily enough,
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: a BAT fifty, the Ford Ranger BT fifty. Had a
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: customer come in and let's say it was a water pump.
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: I can't remember exactly what part. And the customer was
- 1:20:06Speaker 2: adamant had to be Mazda OEM parts. And Jim was saying, well,
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: because they've warranty or something.
- 1:20:10Speaker 4: I know he's got a.
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: Mazda BT fifty. He spent you know, sixty grand on
- 1:20:14Speaker 2: he wants it to be mas done. And Jim said, well, yeah,
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: but it's it's actually a Ford Ranger. It's a Ford
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: Ranger with a body king. No, no, no, no, no,
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: it has to be the master parts. Jim tried to explain, like, yeah,
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: but the mazdaparts will be more than the forward parts,
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: and it's the same had to be mas done. So
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: Jim's like, okay, cool, we'll order the master parts. Gets
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: on the MASDA.
- 1:20:32Speaker 4: Part, you know, parts portal website and orders the water pump,
- 1:20:37Speaker 4: and the order goes through and the order turns up
- 1:20:40Speaker 4: from Closter Ford in a MASDA box, right, but the
- 1:20:44Speaker 4: part came from the Ford dealership in Newcastle. Jim takes
- 1:20:49Speaker 4: another box out of the MASDA box and it's a
- 1:20:51Speaker 4: Ford box. So it's literally a Ford box.
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: Wrapped with a mass of box raped around it. Pulls
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: the part out, It's got Ford logos all over it.
- 1:20:58Speaker 2: It's a Ford model number. The problem was I think
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: the forward part was say, let's I'm pulling numbers out
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: of the air, but it's around this. The Ford part
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: was about three hundred and fifty dollars. The mass De
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: part was eight hundred and fifty dollars. And it's the same.
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: It is exactly the same.
- 1:21:12Speaker 4: It's a Forward part.
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: This shit happens across all the cars, even in terms.
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: The guy's going to kill me for telling this story.
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: We shot an out a four. That guy, maybe I
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: shouldn't tell it. Tale, go on, you know you want it.
- 1:21:27Speaker 3: You can't do that.
- 1:21:28Speaker 2: Yeah, no, no. So this particular person had eighty four
- 1:21:32Speaker 2: and he works in the IT department of a big
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: dealership network and they do Volkswagen, Scoda Audi. Right, So
- 1:21:40Speaker 2: Audi the hourly rate was like two hundred and fifty
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: dollars an hourter an hour, sorry, Skoda was like one
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: twenty five an hour. Now, the Audi he has underneath
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: is exactly the same as a Scoter SUPERB, same cup,
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: different different body panels. He knew the parts that need
- 1:21:58Speaker 2: to be replaced for this major service. So because he
- 1:22:00Speaker 2: works in the I T department, he ordered the SCO
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: departs for his Audi. So then he takes the car
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: in and the service service department. Now underneath this dealership network,
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: you've just got a whole bunch of hoists and a
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: whole bunch of people right there. So the same humans
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: working on Audi's, Volkswagen, Scots, the other brands they have.
- 1:22:19Speaker 2: It's not like there's an Audi section in a Volkswagen
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: section and a Scoter section. No, No, it's the same
- 1:22:24Speaker 2: bunch of generally apprentices working on these cars. So the
- 1:22:27Speaker 2: girl reception goes, oh, no, no, no, I've got you.
- 1:22:30Speaker 2: I've got you down for Scoter like Scotera time and
- 1:22:33Speaker 2: Scoda parts. He's like, yeah, yeah, but you know, I
- 1:22:36Speaker 2: work with you guys, and I know it's an Audi,
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: but it's it's a Scoter. It's the same, the same thing,
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: and like, no, no, no, no, no, it has to
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: be the Audi thing.
- 1:22:43Speaker 4: And he had this.
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: Argument with them because why would you pay more than
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: double for the labor, way more than double for the
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: parts when it's the same people, which the same party.
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: There's people four for the brand name. Bullshit, all the
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: all the hype around Landrover, Range, Rover, Audi, BNW, Mercedes,
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: it's all bullshit. It's all smoke and mirrors. It's like
- 1:23:04Speaker 2: it's like having two white T shirts out of the
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: same factory. One's got a little brand name on it,
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: the other one doesn't, and one's two hundred dollars and
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: one's forty nine dollars. They're the same fucking T shirt,
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: but some idiot is willing to pay the extra money
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: for the one with the tiny brand name on it
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: because their life is empty and they need to lean
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: on a brand name. On themselves.
- 1:23:22Speaker 4: My argument is, if he's that concerned about it, he
- 1:23:24Speaker 4: should have just bought a fucking out Scoti suburb.
- 1:23:26Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know, I think he got the audio
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: because he's got a crazy deal on the AUDI. But
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: it's one of those things I just again, I think
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: because I deal with this day in day out, and
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: brand means nothing to me. I just I can't believe
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: what some people will put themselves through just to have
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: the brand name. But I also have to remember I'm
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: fortunate enough that to get to drive all these cars
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: and deal with this shit all the time. If I'm
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: like if I work in finance or I'm a plumber
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: and I aspire to own an AMG one day, and
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: that's what I want my garage because that will make
- 1:23:57Speaker 2: me feel good for working my ass off every single
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: day to get dream car. I've got to remember that
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: means something to somebody. For me, it doesn't mean shit.
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: I couldn't. I don't care what's written on it as
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: long as it does what I want a car to do.
- 1:24:08Speaker 2: I mean, I don't care what brand it is.
- 1:24:11Speaker 4: Let's go around the table before we wrap up. Let's
- 1:24:13Speaker 4: go with something something would love to buy it's secondhand.
- 1:24:19Speaker 4: Since we've got the expert here, what would we get secondhand? Say,
- 1:24:23Speaker 4: under thirty thousand dollars?
- 1:24:25Speaker 3: Oh okay, look, I the first thing that leaps to
- 1:24:30Speaker 3: mind ed that actually took me completely by surprise, and
- 1:24:32Speaker 3: I really enjoyed it. And I don't think they actually
- 1:24:34Speaker 3: even make it anymore. Is the Ford Escape?
- 1:24:37Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: Underrated?
- 1:24:38Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely underrated. Don't see many of them on the road,
- 1:24:42Speaker 3: and so good to drive. I was just I had
- 1:24:46Speaker 3: zero expectation going in and just really loved it, almost
- 1:24:49Speaker 3: to the point that I thought, I think I need
- 1:24:51Speaker 3: to buy one of these.
- 1:24:52Speaker 2: I think that's a super intelligent choice. If that is
- 1:24:55Speaker 2: a better forward focus RS engine. That's the Eco Boost
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: two leader that yearboxes.
- 1:25:01Speaker 3: Yeah, it just went great. Card it was so good.
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: How good is the calibration, the way it handles and drives,
- 1:25:07Speaker 2: it's just so it's such a good car.
- 1:25:10Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:25:10Speaker 3: Yeah, And and no one knows about it. I mean,
- 1:25:14Speaker 3: I don't think they actually make them anymore. I think
- 1:25:15Speaker 3: they And it's cheap.
- 1:25:16Speaker 2: They're so cheap on the US market, so you can't
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: I was going to say thirty grand, so you can't
- 1:25:20Speaker 2: get them front of thirty grand. Well and truly.
- 1:25:22Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, which was a tricky one. We were talking
- 1:25:25Speaker 4: about MX five's before, so my brain's going automatically that
- 1:25:29Speaker 4: that that could be fun. Oh yeah, I mean you
- 1:25:32Speaker 4: could get a box to probably from under under thirty.
- 1:25:35Speaker 3: I knew you you'd go down there.
- 1:25:37Speaker 4: You can't leave tragic to leave them alone.
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: Yeah, gen one box, I forget the yes, just the
- 1:25:43Speaker 2: two point seven letter, the base model one cracking thing.
- 1:25:46Speaker 4: Yeah, good fun. I drove the twenty sixteen box to
- 1:25:52Speaker 4: S the other day. Yeah, I loved it. It sounded
- 1:25:54Speaker 4: really nice.
- 1:25:55Speaker 2: Great.
- 1:25:55Speaker 4: The guy just had done a few bits and pieces
- 1:25:58Speaker 4: to it that I didn't like. But yeah, I think
- 1:26:00Speaker 4: i'd say an MX five. I would have said an
- 1:26:02Speaker 4: RX seven, but you can't buy those for under thirty more.
- 1:26:08Speaker 4: I had a two sixty Z once upon a time.
- 1:26:10Speaker 4: I love that car, and yeah, I sort of dabbled
- 1:26:13Speaker 4: looking at them recently. Fuck hell, they have gone through
- 1:26:17Speaker 4: the roof, especially the one that I want, Like the
- 1:26:20Speaker 4: one I want is basically the one I sold and
- 1:26:23Speaker 4: the condition that I sold it in and you can't
- 1:26:25Speaker 4: get that for under seventy grand.
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: No, it's nuts disappointing mine. I'm actually literally looking at
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: buying right now. So my daily is a Ford Fiesta
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: ST which I adore. I love. That car is the
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: Mark seven, so it's the three door, but I really
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: could do with some rear doors and a little bit
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: more space inside at the moment. And also I want
- 1:26:45Speaker 2: to get back to the snow a lot this year,
- 1:26:46Speaker 2: so all drive it would be good. And there's a
- 1:26:48Speaker 2: car that is being very slept on, and I shouldn't
- 1:26:51Speaker 2: mention this because I hope no one else catches on
- 1:26:54Speaker 2: to how amazing these are. So send the price through
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: the roof the two thousand and nine super through WRX
- 1:27:00Speaker 2: STI specc from Japan. Now here's the difference in Australia.
- 1:27:05Speaker 2: That's the hatchback, the pumped guard hatchback STI from that period.
- 1:27:10Speaker 2: The Australian once had a two point five liter. They
- 1:27:12Speaker 2: have a habit of going boom. The Japanese ones have
- 1:27:15Speaker 2: a two leader that revs to nine thousand rpm. What
- 1:27:20Speaker 2: they have, more power, more talk, all forged internals, twin
- 1:27:23Speaker 2: scroll turbo, better gearbox, better electronics, better drive, better everything,
- 1:27:28Speaker 2: better breaks.
- 1:27:29Speaker 4: You hang on You had a WRX one three.
- 1:27:32Speaker 2: Yeah, this this O nine specc is I reckon the
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: most slipt on performance car you can buy at the moment.
- 1:27:40Speaker 4: So would would this be an import?
- 1:27:41Speaker 2: Yep, JDM. You get it from Culton Classic. Justin Culton
- 1:27:44Speaker 2: Classic and Mitagong best importer in the country. They're less
- 1:27:48Speaker 2: than thirty thousand dollars two hundred and forty five killer
- 1:27:51Speaker 2: five door hatchback.
- 1:27:54Speaker 3: Where they went through that weird round headlight.
- 1:27:56Speaker 2: So you guys, so you've got you got the original
- 1:27:59Speaker 2: wxlected Classic which is the GC eight, then five rally
- 1:28:02Speaker 2: win them. Then you've got the round headlight, the Blobeye.
- 1:28:05Speaker 2: Then you've got the three versions that Blobeye, bug Eye
- 1:28:08Speaker 2: and Hawkeye Yea, which is the kind of their same
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: body but just different fronts. Then we get into the
- 1:28:14Speaker 2: ones we're talking about third generation.
- 1:28:16Speaker 4: It's still square them off, yeah a little bit.
- 1:28:18Speaker 2: The w Rex in Australia was a narrow body and
- 1:28:21Speaker 2: it looked bloody horrible. But then the STIs were like
- 1:28:24Speaker 2: the pumped pumped arches and it looks looks the shit.
- 1:28:27Speaker 2: But it's specifically the Spec C with the two liter
- 1:28:30Speaker 2: from Japan. Yeah, like really shit hot ones with like
- 1:28:34Speaker 2: delivery k is of forty five grand. But you can
- 1:28:37Speaker 2: get a SPECC with about one hundred thousand k's on
- 1:28:39Speaker 2: it for less than thirty and I'm honestly there's one
- 1:28:43Speaker 2: coming into Australia in about two weeks in WRC Blue,
- 1:28:47Speaker 2: and I think it might happen my new daily. I'm
- 1:28:50Speaker 2: just going to get the sponsors on board to help
- 1:28:52Speaker 2: me with the Apple car play and stereo and wheels
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: and suspension and yeah, we're going to do a few
- 1:28:57Speaker 2: videos on it.
- 1:28:58Speaker 4: Actually, I said, last time I was at this, I
- 1:29:00Speaker 4: saw a Jymney just go absolutely fine up the mountain.
- 1:29:03Speaker 4: I don't even think it had chains on.
- 1:29:05Speaker 2: They're amazing. There's a guy in Newcastle does a really
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: good turbo kit.
- 1:29:09Speaker 4: Oh yeah, is it worth getting done? You reckon?
- 1:29:12Speaker 2: I haven't driven it yet. He's on the back about
- 1:29:13Speaker 2: driving it and it's not it's not crazy powerful, but
- 1:29:17Speaker 2: it makes a huge difference.
- 1:29:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:29:18Speaker 2: There's a couple of super charger kits that are pretty
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: good as well.
- 1:29:22Speaker 4: That's what I love about the Jymneys, Like I've looked
- 1:29:24Speaker 4: at a lot of clips on them, and they're so
- 1:29:26Speaker 4: easy to modify.
- 1:29:27Speaker 2: Oh yeah, they're always designed for it.
- 1:29:28Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, they're fucking like snap in, snap off, all
- 1:29:31Speaker 4: that great thing thing.
- 1:29:33Speaker 2: So much fun.
- 1:29:34Speaker 4: Hey, we better wrap. Thanks for coming in.
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 1:29:37Speaker 2: We've got to do it again.
- 1:29:38Speaker 4: Yeah, we've got to do this again. He's the one
- 1:29:43Speaker 4: with the one the ugly face behind you there, yeah
- 1:29:47Speaker 4: yeah right right, yeah, good looking guy. Look at him
- 1:29:50Speaker 4: with his dinis cheesy grin.
- 1:29:52Speaker 3: There isn't it.
- 1:29:55Speaker 4: I will.
- 1:29:56Speaker 3: Met him, get love to meet you.
- 1:30:00Speaker 4: Thank you for coming in. Contacted The Drivers Show dot
