- 3:48Speaker 1: stuff coming up in the look audio verse. Um. We're
- 3:53Speaker 1: we've been busy and we have a lot of things
- 3:55Speaker 1: that we have yet to unveil to you all. But
- 3:58Speaker 1: before we get to those updates, welcome to season six.
- 4:03Speaker 1: We are your podcast at us next Door. And when
- 4:06Speaker 1: thinking about this year's theme, as you know, each season
- 4:10Speaker 1: has a theme and it's always over the top. It's
- 4:13Speaker 1: always the best, there's always beautiful visuals to accompany it,
- 4:18Speaker 1: and so each year we tried to top last year's.
- 4:21Speaker 1: So this year podcast as next Door. We were inspired
- 4:25Speaker 1: by some reality TV from the early two thousand's. We
- 4:30Speaker 1: were inspired by you know, the Playmates, Yes, Girls next Door,
- 4:35Speaker 1: Girls next Door, and so we are your next Door
- 4:39Speaker 1: just your friendly neighborhood podcasts. Trying to make a podcast
- 4:44Speaker 1: while living at home. And you know, it is season
- 4:46Speaker 1: three of The Pandemic and as we were basically writing
- 4:50Speaker 1: our script for this episode, we came to the realization
- 4:54Speaker 1: that essentially half of our podcast life has now been
- 4:57Speaker 1: indoors and in a pandemic and we didn't even realize it.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Season three of The Pandemic and season six of Look
- 5:04Speaker 1: at Our Radio? When did that happen? How did where
- 5:07Speaker 1: did the time go? It's season three of the Pandemic
- 5:10Speaker 1: and we are still recording from home, and with that
- 5:13Speaker 1: comes a lot of pros and cons. So let's get
- 5:16Speaker 1: into some of them today. We're gonna get into a
- 5:19Speaker 1: lot of them today. We were laughing, dying because there
- 5:23Speaker 1: are some cons that we cannot share on air. Basically,
- 5:29Speaker 1: we we are not at liberty to say, um, just
- 5:32Speaker 1: know that when you you live where you work, and
- 5:36Speaker 1: you work where you live, and everybody is at home
- 5:39Speaker 1: in this horrible situation, I feel like tempers are high,
- 5:44Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Like people get into little
- 5:47Speaker 1: spats and disputes over all kinds of things. We were
- 5:50Speaker 1: just cracking up sharing parking horror stories where in l
- 5:54Speaker 1: A like people will go to great lengths over parking spaces,
- 5:58Speaker 1: like don't underestimate what a desperate person will do when
- 6:03Speaker 1: they need a parking spot in the city of Los Angeles. Yes,
- 6:06Speaker 1: there's also lots of entitlement when it comes to parking. Personally,
- 6:11Speaker 1: where I live there's ample parking, but people get very
- 6:15Speaker 1: very um comfy with their parking and they don't want
- 6:19Speaker 1: you to park in front of their house even though
- 6:22Speaker 1: it's a public right away. Maybe there was a fight,
- 6:26Speaker 1: maybe not, I don't know, but it did not involve me.
- 6:28Speaker 1: It's all I'm gonna say, And I think that that's
- 6:31Speaker 1: that's perfect. We're gonna keep it that vague. Um. Sometimes
- 6:36Speaker 1: older Mexican people think that they can put an orange
- 6:41Speaker 1: traffic cone on a public street and claim it as
- 6:46Speaker 1: their own personal parking spot and then like get mad
- 6:49Speaker 1: and yell at people and start fights when they try
- 6:51Speaker 1: and move said cone and parking said public parking spot.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Someone that I know that works for the city will
- 6:59Speaker 1: remove those because it's not legal to do that. And
- 7:05Speaker 1: maybe sometimes when you try and explain things like that
- 7:08Speaker 1: to set older Mexican person, they're like, why are you
- 7:14Speaker 1: Why are you criticizing me? Like why are you judging me?
- 7:17Speaker 1: Where are you? Who are you being a hater. Basically
- 7:21Speaker 1: I'm not being a hater. I'm just saying it's a
- 7:24Speaker 1: public street, right right, good times. Let's talk about some
- 7:30Speaker 1: pros of recording from home now, aside from the barking,
- 7:34Speaker 1: which is a nightmare. Um, we're comfy, comfy, there's no
- 7:41Speaker 1: commuting or traffic involved. Beautiful. I think that's it. I mean,
- 7:49Speaker 1: it is a blessing that, you know, we're able to
- 7:51Speaker 1: continue podcasting in spite of everything that's going on. Um,
- 7:57Speaker 1: luckily mikes are affordable enough and we have our computers.
- 8:02Speaker 1: That's really it. I mean, that's what we what we use,
- 8:05Speaker 1: and that we have a pretty basic set up y'all.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Like we don't have a handheld recorder. Those are expensive,
- 8:13Speaker 1: you know. The mic that we have, it's a good
- 8:15Speaker 1: quality mike, but it connects to our computer, we get
- 8:18Speaker 1: it done. You know, we're not to go out and
- 8:22Speaker 1: spend a ton of money on equipment. That's that's what
- 8:26Speaker 1: you like to do. Cool. We never advocate for people
- 8:29Speaker 1: to spend more than they more than they can afford.
- 8:32Speaker 1: So this is what works for us UM. But there's
- 8:35Speaker 1: also a lot of like scheduling that goes around working
- 8:39Speaker 1: from recording from home and like today, you know, early January,
- 8:45Speaker 1: we had a voiceover gig and we had to like
- 8:50Speaker 1: there was a lot of prep work in order to
- 8:52Speaker 1: make sure that our space was ready for one. I
- 8:55Speaker 1: had to ask my parents to leave by nine am.
- 8:57Speaker 1: My parents are very loud when they leave. It's a
- 9:00Speaker 1: whole production. It's a show to get them out the door.
- 9:03Speaker 1: So I was like, I really need you all to
- 9:05Speaker 1: leave by nine am, Like you have to because they're
- 9:08Speaker 1: going to hear everything and it's really important that I'm professional.
- 9:12Speaker 1: I need you to be gone by nine And they respected.
- 9:15Speaker 1: If they didn't, they were all got both My parents
- 9:17Speaker 1: were gone ten minutes to nine. It was nice. Thank god,
- 9:21Speaker 1: that's good. See when you have the cooperation, that's lovely.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Like my grandpa likes to saw things, you know, and
- 9:31Speaker 1: like I live above the garage, my little apartment, and
- 9:35Speaker 1: the garage is his like workshop where his drills and
- 9:38Speaker 1: his saws. I'm directly above it. So we have like
- 9:43Speaker 1: an understanding. And I'm like, Grandpa, I'm recording today, can
- 9:46Speaker 1: you not saw anything in half? Just for like forty
- 9:49Speaker 1: five minutes? And He's like, got it, I'll go hammer
- 9:52Speaker 1: this thing over here instead, you know. So it's all
- 9:58Speaker 1: about teamwork. But yeah, the thing is like there's a
- 10:01Speaker 1: lot of ambient sounds. There's just a lot of environmental
- 10:05Speaker 1: noise when you're at home and you have neighbors and
- 10:07Speaker 1: you have family and you have tons of dogs like
- 10:10Speaker 1: we have, or if you have like a shitty white
- 10:12Speaker 1: fridge like I have. Like during today's very same voice
- 10:16Speaker 1: over gig, their sound engineer was like, what's that humming noise?
- 10:22Speaker 1: And we were at the USA and I at the
- 10:23Speaker 1: same time, We're like my fridge, So I had to
- 10:26Speaker 1: unplug it. It's unplugged again right now, son? Yes, yes,
- 10:30Speaker 1: do you remember early on o G listeners know when
- 10:34Speaker 1: the smoke detector beeping and we unplugged it and it
- 10:38Speaker 1: was still beeping and we changed the batteries. It just
- 10:41Speaker 1: kept beeping. It was insane and people were listeners are
- 10:44Speaker 1: mad about it, and we're like, we know, okay, we know,
- 10:48Speaker 1: we we hear it too, We really do hear it.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Tried fixing it, We changed the batteries, okay, we did
- 10:55Speaker 1: everything we could do. And then like, for a while,
- 10:58Speaker 1: I could not figure out how to at the message
- 11:01Speaker 1: the messages notification on my laptop. I couldn't for the
- 11:04Speaker 1: life of me. And then I would I would Google
- 11:06Speaker 1: and I would look at the instructions and then I
- 11:08Speaker 1: would try it, and they still kept coming through. Listeners
- 11:11Speaker 1: got mad about that too. Sorry guys. Um, yeah, good stuff.
- 11:16Speaker 1: My dog he likes to come bother me the second
- 11:18Speaker 1: we start recording. It's true, it's true. There's a lot
- 11:22Speaker 1: of external noise, the dogs barking. Sometimes my cat is mewing. Um,
- 11:30Speaker 1: you know. And it's really funny to me when podcasters
- 11:34Speaker 1: more like the the like studio network podcasters, probably some
- 11:39Speaker 1: indie two, But when they talk about recording in their closets,
- 11:43Speaker 1: I'm like, how like I don't have a walk in closet,
- 11:46Speaker 1: I don't fit in my closet, Like I cannot record
- 11:50Speaker 1: in a closet, So that that joke about podcasters recording
- 11:53Speaker 1: in their closet. Can't relate, doesn't apply to me, can't relate.
- 11:57Speaker 1: I guess if you live in a mansion, if you're
- 12:00Speaker 1: podcasting in a wing of Oprah Winfreeze house, you can
- 12:04Speaker 1: record in a closet. There's no where to sit, it's
- 12:07Speaker 1: filled with stuff. It's filled with stuff, and don't even
- 12:10Speaker 1: have like I have the type of closet like like
- 12:13Speaker 1: like an old closet where like sliding doors, like there's
- 12:17Speaker 1: they don't open up outwards. That sounds very rich and
- 12:20Speaker 1: lovely to me. The extravaganza of it all. One day
- 12:26Speaker 1: we aspire to record in our closets. One day, I
- 12:29Speaker 1: think that's when we'll know we've really made it, if
- 12:31Speaker 1: we have closets big enough to record our indie podcasting,
- 12:34Speaker 1: or we have an actual studio. I mean, I think
- 12:36Speaker 1: that would be the real measure. Whatever, it's fine. We
- 12:41Speaker 1: persevere through it all. We persevere through it all, all
- 12:46Speaker 1: while recording from home. And so I want to ask you, Mala,
- 12:50Speaker 1: what kind of neighbor are you? Yes? Yes, so we
- 12:54Speaker 1: are the you know podcast at us next door, and um,
- 12:58Speaker 1: the type of neighbor I am? I think that I'm
- 13:00Speaker 1: very aloof. I am a hermit. I am definitely the
- 13:05Speaker 1: neighborhood mariwanea. Um. I do smoke at home and in
- 13:11Speaker 1: and around like well, I mean in my space with
- 13:14Speaker 1: like the doors and window shots like my grandparents you know,
- 13:17Speaker 1: are not necessarily so cognizant that I'm getting high. But um,
- 13:22Speaker 1: when I walk my dog, I smoke. And so I
- 13:24Speaker 1: think people like know that, like I'm like the neighborhood,
- 13:27Speaker 1: you know, pothead, and I have earned that title, Okay,
- 13:31Speaker 1: I've worked very diligently, um at that that place in
- 13:36Speaker 1: the neighborhood. So I'm kind of also the Grinch, Like
- 13:40Speaker 1: I stay up here in my space and I do
- 13:42Speaker 1: my writing, and I do my podcasting, and I do
- 13:44Speaker 1: my TV watching, and I do my my research unless
- 13:48Speaker 1: I'm like, you know, not here, unless I'm like outskating
- 13:53Speaker 1: or I'm like meeting up with people. So I think
- 13:56Speaker 1: I'm very like Aloof, and I come down when I'm
- 14:02Speaker 1: like summoned or with like an invitation lots of coaxing.
- 14:07Speaker 1: I'm like the Grinch, and I only come down to
- 14:10Speaker 1: Huville on very rare occasions. Definitely like a curmudged le
- 14:13Speaker 1: hottie because there's a lot of like street harassment in
- 14:15Speaker 1: my neighborhood. And so like I don't say hi to anybody,
- 14:18Speaker 1: I don't say how to anyone. I don't address anyone
- 14:21Speaker 1: unless you're you're my grandma's friend and you're like another
- 14:24Speaker 1: Senora or like you're like a Senora walking her dog
- 14:27Speaker 1: and I'm walking my dog. Like I will talk to you,
- 14:30Speaker 1: but like literally no one else. Um, I'm also like
- 14:33Speaker 1: the naked window neighbor because I will forget that I
- 14:35Speaker 1: don't have any clothes on and that my window is open,
- 14:38Speaker 1: you know, Like I'm also that person, but I'm trying
- 14:40Speaker 1: to work on that because I'm like, you know what,
- 14:43Speaker 1: this is a very highly populated area and like my
- 14:46Speaker 1: windows are not tinted, like people can see me. So
- 14:50Speaker 1: that's the type of neighbor I am. How about you,
- 14:53Speaker 1: We need to get you some curtains, and so I'm here.
- 14:56Speaker 1: I do I have very heavy um the Roman lines
- 15:00Speaker 1: that you pull down, yes, and they're always down, but
- 15:04Speaker 1: then except when they're not, and then I forget, you
- 15:06Speaker 1: know what I mean, that happens. It happens, happens, it happens.
- 15:09Speaker 1: What kind of neighbor are you? Um? I think that
- 15:12Speaker 1: I am a toss between. Well, first, I feel like
- 15:15Speaker 1: I'm the dog walker, Like I have lots of dogs
- 15:18Speaker 1: and I walk them all at once. So there are
- 15:21Speaker 1: a good times where people do ask me if I
- 15:22Speaker 1: walk dogs, like are you a dog walker? And I'm like, yes,
- 15:27Speaker 1: you can't afford me, you cannot afford my services. You
- 15:30Speaker 1: cannot afford my services. Um, I am the dog walker.
- 15:34Speaker 1: So there's that. I also feel like I like I'm
- 15:38Speaker 1: a toss between like friendly hottie next door and like
- 15:42Speaker 1: unfriendly hottie next door, Like catch me on the wrong day.
- 15:47Speaker 1: I'm not going to be the friendly hottie. I'm not
- 15:49Speaker 1: gonna I'm just gonna get in my car and not
- 15:51Speaker 1: say hi and like zoom off. Other times, sure, I'll
- 15:54Speaker 1: have the convo with you. We'll talk about what's happening
- 15:57Speaker 1: on your roses and of changes that you're doing to
- 16:01Speaker 1: your house and blah blah blah um. You know. And also,
- 16:05Speaker 1: since I've been living in my house for close to
- 16:09Speaker 1: twenty years, with the exception of you know, moving to
- 16:14Speaker 1: Zenna Barbara for undergrad my neighbors have really seen me
- 16:17Speaker 1: grow up and have seen like, you know, the evolving
- 16:21Speaker 1: partners that have come by. I love that. So evolving partners,
- 16:30Speaker 1: you know, that's a journey. I don't want to say
- 16:32Speaker 1: it's a rotation because it's not more of like in evolved.
- 16:37Speaker 1: You know, as I have grown up, so have the partners.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Partners have changed. You know. I'm also like, you know,
- 16:46Speaker 1: snack sneaking my boyfriend in or why don't really sneak
- 16:49Speaker 1: fitting on the wind? But more so like you know,
- 16:52Speaker 1: he's over. I'm that, I'm that neighbor. Yes, I love that.
- 16:57Speaker 1: I love that, and I love that. It's like, Okay,
- 17:01Speaker 1: there's probably just like the associate a different phase of
- 17:04Speaker 1: your life, probably with like your hair cut in color.
- 17:07Speaker 1: And then also who were you dating? That's so true.
- 17:09Speaker 1: You're right, You're right. You're right. And and and and
- 17:19Speaker 1: and and and and and and and and and and
- 17:30Speaker 1: and and and and and um um um um um
- 17:47Speaker 1: um um um um um um of it and ship. Alright, y'all.
- 18:01Speaker 1: So today we want to talk about one of our
- 18:05Speaker 1: favorite topics and something that has kind of had a
- 18:08Speaker 1: renaissance via TikTok via gen z and also an inspo
- 18:13Speaker 1: for the season's theme. Yeah, we're talking about bimbos, and
- 18:20Speaker 1: this episode is in defense of bimbos, some iconic bimbos
- 18:23Speaker 1: throughout history, bimbos who have been inspirations to us, and
- 18:27Speaker 1: too many out there it seems. And yeah, we're pocas
- 18:31Speaker 1: at us next door. That definitely is a callback and
- 18:34Speaker 1: a throwback to the girls next door. Um, there's actually
- 18:38Speaker 1: a new documentary out about like Surviving Playboy and like
- 18:43Speaker 1: the drama and the disaster and how it was kind
- 18:47Speaker 1: of an abusive environment. So I think that there's a
- 18:49Speaker 1: lot more to being a bimbo than we previously recognize
- 18:54Speaker 1: as a culture. Yeah, you know, we at Local Tora
- 18:58Speaker 1: are all about the count narratives about looking at popular
- 19:02Speaker 1: culture from a different lens, which is why we developed
- 19:05Speaker 1: look up hisstemologies. So I think anything that is said
- 19:09Speaker 1: here is through that lens, it's through that viewpoint. So
- 19:12Speaker 1: just to get started, let's define what a bimbo is.
- 19:17Speaker 1: So there are a lot of definitions now, especially visa
- 19:22Speaker 1: v TikTok. A lot of folks who are like bimbo
- 19:26Speaker 1: content creators, Like they're dressing up in a particular way,
- 19:30Speaker 1: you know, lots of cleavage, tiny skirts, full face hair
- 19:35Speaker 1: and makeup. The ship that we love, the ship that
- 19:37Speaker 1: we're all about we love it, we love it. The
- 19:39Speaker 1: other day, Mala was like, so are mini skirts back
- 19:41Speaker 1: micro skirts? And I was like did they ever leave?
- 19:47Speaker 1: You know? So like they're having a resurgence, resurgence truly, truly,
- 19:52Speaker 1: And some of these bimbo content creators have like put
- 19:55Speaker 1: out definitions for what a bimbo is and some of
- 19:58Speaker 1: them like make sure to include like bimbos are pro sects, work,
- 20:04Speaker 1: anti capitalists, anti prison, Like bimbos are social justice minded, Yes,
- 20:10Speaker 1: yes they are. And but just to like before we
- 20:13Speaker 1: get into like the new definitions that folks are creating,
- 20:15Speaker 1: I just want to read like a standard probably written
- 20:19Speaker 1: by a white person, a white man. A bimbo, according
- 20:22Speaker 1: to dictionary dot com is an attractive, but unintelligent or
- 20:26Speaker 1: frivolous young woman. Sounds like a fem to me, sounds
- 20:31Speaker 1: like a fucking fem. And again, the ship we love,
- 20:34Speaker 1: you know, we've been talking about for years, like the
- 20:36Speaker 1: things that women like that fams like makeup, dressing up, nails.
- 20:42Speaker 1: You know, we call it all kinds of things. Goddess worship,
- 20:45Speaker 1: we call it firm defense, even fem technology. And we're
- 20:50Speaker 1: just all about reclaiming these things that we get made
- 20:53Speaker 1: fun of. For yes, the things that are seen as frivolous,
- 20:57Speaker 1: And it's like the question is frivolous to who do
- 21:01Speaker 1: and in what context? I mean? And there are so
- 21:04Speaker 1: many famous bimbos throughout history, we like went and did
- 21:08Speaker 1: like a little deep dive into some of our favorite bimbos,
- 21:11Speaker 1: so of course, so who like how can we forget
- 21:15Speaker 1: Elwoods of Legally Blonde? We love el Woods, brought to
- 21:19Speaker 1: life by Reese Witherspoon, one of the most iconic bimbos
- 21:23Speaker 1: of all time. But it's hard. Oh my god, such
- 21:26Speaker 1: a good movie, such good acting, such good writings, such
- 21:29Speaker 1: an amazing wardrobe. Yes, yes, and um el is just
- 21:33Speaker 1: that girl and we love her and I feel like
- 21:36Speaker 1: legally Blonde. And also el Woods is having their own
- 21:40Speaker 1: like redefining that it's actually a feminist movie. Hell yeah,
- 21:45Speaker 1: you know. And at the time I didn't receive that
- 21:47Speaker 1: kind of accolade. But now, like looking back, we're looking
- 21:50Speaker 1: back at early two thousand films. Obviously in pulp culture,
- 21:53Speaker 1: it's having a resurgence and folks are giving giving it
- 21:57Speaker 1: the claim and the accolades that it deserves because it
- 22:00Speaker 1: is a feminist film. It is and not only that,
- 22:03Speaker 1: but I think folks are also like recognizing some really
- 22:07Speaker 1: incredible performances from that film, like um, Jennifer Coolidge in
- 22:11Speaker 1: and of herself as having a moment, and I think
- 22:14Speaker 1: she is like considered maybe in this spectrum of bimbo
- 22:19Speaker 1: hood and has played many a bimbo and like to
- 22:22Speaker 1: a t and I mean like Paultte bonafante, like stop it.
- 22:27Speaker 1: She's the original dog mom, the original dog mom. We
- 22:30Speaker 1: love Paulette. She brought us the bendon snap. I mean,
- 22:34Speaker 1: it's just good time. So we've got bimbos upon bimbos
- 22:37Speaker 1: um and then of course, like we said, our namesake
- 22:40Speaker 1: for this season, the Girl's next door? Who are some
- 22:44Speaker 1: of the girls next door? Like the really popular ones
- 22:47Speaker 1: that really took off? Who would you say? I don't
- 22:50Speaker 1: remember any of their kee. She's the only one I
- 22:54Speaker 1: can really think of Wilkinson right, Yes, yes, she's a
- 22:58Speaker 1: real estate agent. Now, good for her. She has a
- 23:00Speaker 1: TV show now with her kids. Yes she's in real estate,
- 23:04Speaker 1: good for her. Um. Dolly Parton is obviously an o
- 23:07Speaker 1: G bimbo, iconic bimbo, and like a huge philanthropist, she
- 23:14Speaker 1: does a ton of work, like donates a ton of money,
- 23:18Speaker 1: gives like books to children. Children she's paying for like
- 23:22Speaker 1: if her employees at Dolly would want to go to school,
- 23:25Speaker 1: like she's paying for their education. A bimbo of the people, Yes,
- 23:30Speaker 1: the people's bimbo. The people's bimbo very much. Though we
- 23:34Speaker 1: love Dolly and Dolly has always had such an amazing
- 23:37Speaker 1: sense of humor, Like I love looking at old interview
- 23:40Speaker 1: clips of Dolly Parton on like whatever fucking talk show,
- 23:43Speaker 1: because she has outlived all of them, basically, and you know,
- 23:46Speaker 1: they want to come for her fake tips, and they
- 23:48Speaker 1: want to come for her nails and her wigs. But
- 23:51Speaker 1: she she has her one liner is just ready in
- 23:53Speaker 1: the cliff, ready to go. She has them cute up, yes,
- 23:57Speaker 1: and she could always make fun of herself, very self aware.
- 24:00Speaker 1: I love Dolly And then, of course, okay, have you
- 24:01Speaker 1: been watching Pam and Tommy? I haven't because I've been
- 24:06Speaker 1: hearing like we're not supposed to, like, because she doesn't
- 24:09Speaker 1: want to say she didn't actually consent to it, So
- 24:11Speaker 1: I've had some feelings about it, like should I watch it? Right?
- 24:15Speaker 1: That's fair, that's fair. I would also venture to say
- 24:18Speaker 1: that's probably true of like any like unauthorized biography autobiography
- 24:26Speaker 1: docu series. Yes, yes, you know, and not to be
- 24:30Speaker 1: like just watch it anyways, it's so good. So I
- 24:34Speaker 1: just say I've had like an internal dilemma. I feel you.
- 24:38Speaker 1: I hear obviously, folks, you know, watch what you want,
- 24:41Speaker 1: you know, and no shame or anything. I'm just me personally,
- 24:44Speaker 1: I'm like, do I watch this? But I also want to,
- 24:46Speaker 1: you know, like anything, like I want to keep up
- 24:49Speaker 1: with the online chatter, like I want to know what,
- 24:51Speaker 1: folks we're talking about. Yes, now here's what's fascinating about
- 24:55Speaker 1: the show. So Pamela Anderson, of course, iconic bimbo of
- 24:59Speaker 1: like film, television, Hollywood, famous for Baywatch, killing it in Baywatch,
- 25:05Speaker 1: famous for her relationship, famous for her boobs, you know,
- 25:09Speaker 1: like quite specifically, and the time period of like Pam
- 25:14Speaker 1: and Tommy. I remember being a kid and like just
- 25:18Speaker 1: seeing things like on TV because you know, in l a,
- 25:22Speaker 1: Hollywood news and celebrity news is on the same channel
- 25:25Speaker 1: as the news. News intertwined, and I realized that other
- 25:29Speaker 1: people in other places don't have celebrity news as part
- 25:33Speaker 1: of the regular news. Are you feeling I'm serious. I
- 25:38Speaker 1: was talking to somebody who grew up in the Midwest. Yes,
- 25:43Speaker 1: I was. He was like, I was talking to this
- 25:45Speaker 1: guy who, like um, grew up in the Midwest, and
- 25:48Speaker 1: he was saying like, yeah, you know, for us, like
- 25:52Speaker 1: just chatting about celebs and the things that they do
- 25:55Speaker 1: is not we don't keep up with that info. And
- 25:58Speaker 1: he's like, you guys seem to know so much about it,
- 26:00Speaker 1: And I'm like, well, yeah, because you could literally be
- 26:02Speaker 1: watching Channel four local news and in between k t
- 26:05Speaker 1: l A or whatever the traffic report, it's access Hollywood
- 26:10Speaker 1: celebrity reports. We consider that to be news, but other
- 26:14Speaker 1: people are not getting that as their news. I'm dying.
- 26:17Speaker 1: I had no idea. It was just standard w It's
- 26:25Speaker 1: like not a thing. It's our local ship. That's like okay,
- 26:28Speaker 1: so all of our like out of state. Look, I'm
- 26:31Speaker 1: what is Please let me know. I need you to
- 26:33Speaker 1: confirm with me. Do you not get celebrity news as
- 26:37Speaker 1: a part of your daytime news, your evening news. Let
- 26:41Speaker 1: us know the local local news. Tell us you know,
- 26:44Speaker 1: like not fancy cable or whatever, your local Well that
- 26:48Speaker 1: would make sense because it's not local to them, right,
- 26:51Speaker 1: So it's not a part of local news like it
- 26:53Speaker 1: is US. Yes, our local news is sex Tapes Hollywood.
- 26:59Speaker 1: Mario Lopez, right, Mario Lopez is a correspondent basically delivers
- 27:06Speaker 1: are celebrity news. Wow, doesn't that put so many things
- 27:11Speaker 1: into contact? It really does? It really does. I've always wondered, like,
- 27:15Speaker 1: you know, it's just so like ingrained in US, you know,
- 27:19Speaker 1: like we know, even if you're not you have to
- 27:21Speaker 1: try really hard to not know what's happening in like
- 27:24Speaker 1: celebrity culture. You know, even when I was like going
- 27:27Speaker 1: through like my I'm an intellectual phase, you know, you know,
- 27:31Speaker 1: like when I was in high school, it was like
- 27:32Speaker 1: I don't I don't want to keep up with that.
- 27:33Speaker 1: You can't, It's impossible. You live here in l A
- 27:36Speaker 1: like exactly. So today you know, now people have their
- 27:39Speaker 1: row coup, people have every streaming package. I'm sure the
- 27:43Speaker 1: access to celebrity news is greater now. But when we
- 27:47Speaker 1: were just kids and like there was celebt news, that
- 27:51Speaker 1: was us. That was just our unique experience. Well, like
- 27:54Speaker 1: when like TMZ was founded, like we were in probably
- 27:57Speaker 1: middle school, right, maybe high school, and that was like
- 28:02Speaker 1: its inception. So for us, we've always known like a
- 28:06Speaker 1: TMZ paparazzi world exactly, so specifically to our date, our
- 28:10Speaker 1: age demographic, to our age demographic as being like, oh,
- 28:13Speaker 1: this is just local news updates. So now people have
- 28:16Speaker 1: the Internet, people have Twitter, people have TikTok, everybody has
- 28:18Speaker 1: access to news now. But yeah, so back in the
- 28:20Speaker 1: day when Pam and Tommy was the thing, we were
- 28:23Speaker 1: seeing Pam and Tommy on our local news, right, you know.
- 28:28Speaker 1: So it's kind of unlocking these interesting memories for me
- 28:31Speaker 1: and like getting the behind the scenes in the background.
- 28:33Speaker 1: And there's this one episode where sorry this is a spoiler,
- 28:37Speaker 1: when the sex tape is getting distributed. It's getting distributed online,
- 28:41Speaker 1: but no one knows what the internet is yet, and
- 28:43Speaker 1: Pam and Tommy go to the library to use a
- 28:46Speaker 1: computer to like go on the internet to try and
- 28:49Speaker 1: see what is the internet? And what do you mean
- 28:50Speaker 1: the tape is on the internet. I don't have in
- 28:53Speaker 1: we don't have internet. Stress. Oh my god, that's terrible. Also,
- 29:00Speaker 1: fun fact about Pamela Anderson. Years ago, there was this
- 29:04Speaker 1: gymnast I don't remember her full name, but the nickname
- 29:07Speaker 1: that everyone gave her was Mo and she was like
- 29:09Speaker 1: an older gymnast for gm USA, and Pamela Anderson was
- 29:13Speaker 1: like her primary benefactor and supporter and paid for her
- 29:17Speaker 1: training and her transportation and went to the Olympics to
- 29:21Speaker 1: see her perform. If you google Pamela Anderson mo gymnastics,
- 29:26Speaker 1: you'll see Pam Anderson with her son like cheering on
- 29:29Speaker 1: this gymnast with these signs at say go mo. So anyways,
- 29:32Speaker 1: I want a big Pam Anderson kick right now, you
- 29:35Speaker 1: chaman one of our favor bimbo Yeah. And you know
- 29:39Speaker 1: when obviously, when compiling this list, we were like, Okay,
- 29:42Speaker 1: there are a lot of white bimbos, clearly like in
- 29:45Speaker 1: pop culture. And so that of course led us to ask,
- 29:49Speaker 1: like who is allowed to be a bimbo ran society? Right,
- 29:53Speaker 1: Like even if it's looked down upon, Like, do women
- 29:57Speaker 1: of color ever get labeled bimbo os or are they
- 30:02Speaker 1: just like sex like sex goddesses or sex symbols. Do
- 30:06Speaker 1: they fall into these tropes of like spicy latinos, right,
- 30:11Speaker 1: And so we started to like think about some of
- 30:14Speaker 1: our some of the bimbos of color if you will,
- 30:18Speaker 1: in pop culture and media. And so one of them
- 30:22Speaker 1: is actually like a cartoon, which would be Betty Boop.
- 30:27Speaker 1: One of the origin stories of Betty Boop is actually
- 30:30Speaker 1: um that she was a black singer from the nineteen
- 30:35Speaker 1: twenties and she you know, singing clubs and saying specifically
- 30:39Speaker 1: in Harlem. And her name is Esther Jones or was
- 30:42Speaker 1: Esther Jones, And she has been attributed as the inspiration
- 30:46Speaker 1: and I would say also probably the forgotten inspiration of
- 30:49Speaker 1: Betty Boop. And so the character that we know and love,
- 30:53Speaker 1: um is inspired by a black woman, and um, I
- 30:56Speaker 1: would say that she was probably a bimbo of that era. Yeah,
- 31:00Speaker 1: I think like there's maybe. And of course, like these
- 31:05Speaker 1: names and categories like probably mean many different things like
- 31:10Speaker 1: now when we're talking about them on a podcast versus
- 31:12Speaker 1: at the time. But I'm thinking about like show girls
- 31:16Speaker 1: and chorus girls and you know, um women who are
- 31:20Speaker 1: like doing strip teases and exotic dancers. I feel like
- 31:23Speaker 1: they're probably all sort of existing somewhere in this bimbo
- 31:28Speaker 1: spectrum for sure. For sure, like the show girl, Yes,
- 31:34Speaker 1: and I think she was like a dancer, a show
- 31:37Speaker 1: girl type of vibe singer performer, singer performer exactly exactly,
- 31:43Speaker 1: So Betty Boop. There's a lot more we were thinking
- 31:46Speaker 1: about the cast of Clueless, because obviously share is like
- 31:50Speaker 1: a little bit of a bimbo in her own way,
- 31:52Speaker 1: but so is her friend Dion, as portrayed by Stacy Dash. Yes,
- 31:58Speaker 1: I would say she was a bimbo at the time,
- 32:00Speaker 1: very much so. I couldn't drive, Yeah, I couldn't drive.
- 32:04Speaker 1: Love to shop. I have no further comments on Stacy Stacy. Dad,
- 32:08Speaker 1: We're not talking about Stacy Dash. We're talking about the
- 32:10Speaker 1: character Dione. We love die Deanna hilarious. Yeah. I mean
- 32:16Speaker 1: also that they were both named in the film, right,
- 32:19Speaker 1: Their characters are both named after famous singers, like that's
- 32:23Speaker 1: That's something named after Diva's very much so love it.
- 32:27Speaker 1: I think also another like loved beloved bimbo would be
- 32:31Speaker 1: like Hillary Banks of Fresh Prince of bel Air. Love
- 32:34Speaker 1: Hillary Bank, you know, I feel like she was treating
- 32:37Speaker 1: like her family treated her as like a frivolous, very
- 32:42Speaker 1: pretty girl and that was it. They didn't give her
- 32:45Speaker 1: the depth she probably deserved. But she was stylish, she
- 32:48Speaker 1: was fashionable for super Yeah. Hillary was very funny. Hillary
- 32:53Speaker 1: had some really good one liners. She did. She did.
- 32:56Speaker 1: She had always a quippy thing to say about men,
- 32:59Speaker 1: men with money, men without money. Love. Hillary Banks also
- 33:04Speaker 1: best dressed on TV who else. I used to watch
- 33:08Speaker 1: Girlfriends a lot growing up. Girlfriends was that show, and
- 33:12Speaker 1: I think Lynn was maybe considered the bimbo of the group.
- 33:17Speaker 1: Even though Lynn is always in like a PhD program,
- 33:19Speaker 1: she was always getting some type of degree, like not finishing,
- 33:24Speaker 1: and that was the joke, right, She's always in school
- 33:26Speaker 1: and never done no degree. Yes, love Lynn, love girlfriends,
- 33:32Speaker 1: and then of course we have friends. We have Phoebe. Phoebe.
- 33:37Speaker 1: I would say she was given like the ditzy, the bimbo,
- 33:41Speaker 1: hippy hippie. She's like, that's and that's its own category
- 33:43Speaker 1: that we were talking about. There's like the hippie, dizzy granola.
- 33:50Speaker 1: She's a granola, a granola hippie bimbo for sure. Yeah,
- 33:55Speaker 1: I love that. And I think one of my favorites too,
- 33:58Speaker 1: would be Evan Glodia's character and Desperate Housewives, So good,
- 34:03Speaker 1: Gabby Sull, so good, Carlos. She also had one liners.
- 34:08Speaker 1: My favorite is when she says, I love going to therapy.
- 34:11Speaker 1: I just talked about myself the entire same girl exactly.
- 34:19Speaker 1: So she, you know, Gabby Sellis is her own sort
- 34:23Speaker 1: of blueprint. You know, she got the guy, she got
- 34:26Speaker 1: the house, she got the neighborhood was the model. She
- 34:29Speaker 1: was the model. So we love her, we love and
- 34:33Speaker 1: we also love the character. Yes, Gabby Sullies. I think
- 34:38Speaker 1: Desperate Housewives also gave us a little inspo for our photoship.
- 34:42Speaker 1: It did like literally next door down the street with
- 34:46Speaker 1: Steria Lane Podcaster Lane exactly. They definitely made it to
- 34:53Speaker 1: our pinterest board. We'll say that the mood board. Who else, Okay,
- 34:56Speaker 1: ugly Betty, the sister, the sister, that's at least, no,
- 35:02Speaker 1: that's that's the politician. Yeah, I'm thinking of yes, no,
- 35:09Speaker 1: not the politician, don't hope me. Um, that's what is
- 35:13Speaker 1: of ugly Betty. Um. She was like the teen mom
- 35:18Speaker 1: trying to figure out her like creative career right with
- 35:22Speaker 1: the gay side, yes, yes, but very supportive, very amazing.
- 35:27Speaker 1: She was very involved with her family. But they also
- 35:29Speaker 1: put her in like the little outfits with the with
- 35:32Speaker 1: the the plunging necklines and cleaving. Yes, yes, absolutely it's her.
- 35:38Speaker 1: And then it's Modern Family's Gloria. Yeah, so do you like?
- 35:43Speaker 1: Obviously what is the character came first and then it
- 35:47Speaker 1: was Gloria for modern family, correlation must be there, must
- 35:52Speaker 1: be right, like the blueprint, and I know that, like,
- 35:55Speaker 1: for example, one of our friends, um Celestian, has done
- 35:58Speaker 1: like um in our article, like an academic article about
- 36:02Speaker 1: Gloria and her accent. Love it. And so we're not
- 36:06Speaker 1: going to deep dive into like the trope and the
- 36:09Speaker 1: caricature of Gloria herself. But I think that she at
- 36:16Speaker 1: least the character maybe the writers like I, I really
- 36:19Speaker 1: appreciated this line that she has in the show where
- 36:22Speaker 1: she's like, do you know how hard it is to
- 36:24Speaker 1: like be funny in another language and be smart in
- 36:27Speaker 1: another language and are always making fun of me? And
- 36:30Speaker 1: I really appreciated that because I feel like it gives
- 36:33Speaker 1: that depth to that character of like not just being
- 36:36Speaker 1: sexy in a pretty face like I'm just worry, Like
- 36:39Speaker 1: she knew how to work it, you know. I love
- 36:43Speaker 1: that they give her um, They give her a lot
- 36:46Speaker 1: of really good dialogue, Like, they give her a lot
- 36:48Speaker 1: of really funny jokes, and they allow her character, I think,
- 36:53Speaker 1: to be like very quick, and I think that like
- 36:56Speaker 1: with her in Jay, like she always wins, she always wins,
- 36:59Speaker 1: She always wins, because that that's like also its own
- 37:02Speaker 1: dynamic right of like the young hot wife and like
- 37:05Speaker 1: the older man, the older husband, and she's just like
- 37:09Speaker 1: always going to get what she wants. Yes, why else
- 37:14Speaker 1: a bimbo? Why else? Um? And then finally, you know,
- 37:19Speaker 1: this is this is not an extensive list, but finally
- 37:23Speaker 1: we had to talk about the O G Many Santhos.
- 37:27Speaker 1: We love Many Santhos and in the age of e
- 37:30Speaker 1: Fouria Darling, like we just say Many Santhos walk. Yes,
- 37:35Speaker 1: so those bitches couldn't run. Yes, Yes, without Mannie Santos,
- 37:39Speaker 1: there is no Maddie Perez. It's true. There's no like
- 37:44Speaker 1: song as an accessory without Many Santos. It's true. It's
- 37:49Speaker 1: true our Canadian queen. Yes. Obsessed with her, obsessed with her.
- 37:56Speaker 1: She was, Yeah, I just loved her character, Like I
- 38:01Speaker 1: don't think in De Grassi she plays Latina, like I
- 38:05Speaker 1: think she's actually Filipino and her characters, but I remember
- 38:08Speaker 1: like reading her as Latina and I was like, this
- 38:11Speaker 1: is my girl, you know, like it felt like the
- 38:13Speaker 1: representation as like a little kid, even even even you know,
- 38:18Speaker 1: loving that she was a Filipino character and being like
- 38:21Speaker 1: so down for that, you know, absolutely, like I didn't
- 38:24Speaker 1: feel like, oh but that's not me, Like no, that
- 38:26Speaker 1: was me, Like even if it wasn't necessarily the same culture. Yes,
- 38:30Speaker 1: she killed it. I mean from being very daring with
- 38:33Speaker 1: the wardrobe, that character, having the self awareness of like
- 38:37Speaker 1: there's some slut shaming going on in high school, but
- 38:40Speaker 1: she's like, you know what, I'm going to own it.
- 38:42Speaker 1: Fuck you guys, you're boring. You're boring, and you're going
- 38:46Speaker 1: to see my chain thomb. You're gonna see it. Yes,
- 38:50Speaker 1: I love it. And then her opposite, what was the
- 38:52Speaker 1: opposite character, Emma? Was it Emma? She was like the prudisha. Yeah,
- 38:59Speaker 1: that like is doing some of the slush shaming too,
- 39:02Speaker 1: you see. And this is interesting because in Euphoria they
- 39:05Speaker 1: have a very interesting similar dynamic with Maddie and Cassie. Interesting.
- 39:09Speaker 1: I'm not up on the Euphoria, but yeah, but there's
- 39:14Speaker 1: a similar There's two friends in their opposites and one
- 39:17Speaker 1: is like the blonde, innocent one, and then one is
- 39:20Speaker 1: Maddie Alexa Demi's character. Yeah, but the blonde one is
- 39:26Speaker 1: sleeping with Alexa Demi's boyfriend, So how innocent is she really? Right? Right?
- 39:32Speaker 1: But they're all like, oh, Maddie press fights with everybody,
- 39:35Speaker 1: She gets into fights, so she's like the dangerous one
- 39:38Speaker 1: she'll suck you up. But then this girl's like Cassie's
- 39:41Speaker 1: the innocent angel, but she's sleeping with your boyfriends. To
- 39:49Speaker 1: start watching Euphoria, it's good, it's good, it's good. That's stressful.
- 39:54Speaker 1: That's like another show like the chatter I need to keep.
- 39:57Speaker 1: I need I want to know what people are talking
- 39:59Speaker 1: about mine. People are talking about it. There's the thing
- 40:02Speaker 1: pieces either you love it, you hate it. Is what
- 40:05Speaker 1: I've gathered. Oh yeah, there's like no in between. I
- 40:08Speaker 1: think you would watch it and that you would appreciate
- 40:11Speaker 1: it for what it is, but I think part of
- 40:13Speaker 1: you would be like, this is what everybody's There's some
- 40:17Speaker 1: stuff in there that's a little questionable, the stuff with Cal,
- 40:20Speaker 1: with Nate's dad, with Nate, and there's just a lot
- 40:23Speaker 1: of there's just there's you have to see it. That's
- 40:26Speaker 1: my homework. Okay, I'll do it. I'll watch it. So
- 40:31Speaker 1: what else we also wanted to? Of course, we have
- 40:33Speaker 1: this conversation without shouting out like Sama hyak Now, I
- 40:38Speaker 1: wouldn't consider Samahaya a bimbo, more like a sex symbol. Right, agreed?
- 40:43Speaker 1: I agree completely, But I think that she like could
- 40:46Speaker 1: be under this category because I think that she like
- 40:50Speaker 1: it's also someone that I think she like. This is
- 40:54Speaker 1: just my assessment. I have no I have no way
- 40:56Speaker 1: to back this up, Okay, but I'm just saying my
- 40:58Speaker 1: my assessment of Salma Hike is that when her when
- 41:02Speaker 1: she firstarted her career, she very much like played by
- 41:04Speaker 1: the roles and did what she had to do because
- 41:06Speaker 1: she knew, like, I'm Latina getting into the scene, right
- 41:09Speaker 1: into the industry, so I'm gonna like be nice, right.
- 41:13Speaker 1: And now I feel like, obviously she has like this
- 41:15Speaker 1: decade long career, and I see her like more vocal
- 41:18Speaker 1: about like her career in the past and like, you know,
- 41:21Speaker 1: the sexual inappropriate things that would happen to her on
- 41:24Speaker 1: set and like all that, and so I feel like
- 41:27Speaker 1: maybe then even if we wouldn't classify her as a bimbo,
- 41:31Speaker 1: there was still like some bimbo practices if you will,
- 41:35Speaker 1: just to survive yesty. Yes, yeah, I think that this
- 41:40Speaker 1: is a thing right when sometimes women we talk about
- 41:44Speaker 1: like playing dumb or playing like we don't know. Oh help,
- 41:48Speaker 1: I'm I don't know. I I tell her onto my
- 41:54Speaker 1: partner all the time. He's like, aren't you a strong
- 41:56Speaker 1: independent woman? And I literally tell him, no, I'm not.
- 41:59Speaker 1: And I'm like, obviously I know that I am and
- 42:01Speaker 1: I can do whatever, blah blah blah, but like, please
- 42:04Speaker 1: just open this jar for me, you know what I mean, Like,
- 42:07Speaker 1: please just move this item for me, Like just do it. Like, no,
- 42:12Speaker 1: I'm not help me, help, Yeah, exactly, I need a
- 42:17Speaker 1: lot of help and I'm very incapable. I don't want
- 42:22Speaker 1: anyone to think that I'm more than a pretty face
- 42:24Speaker 1: because they want you to do things well. And so
- 42:27Speaker 1: this is the layer that we wanted to discuss for
- 42:29Speaker 1: this episode in particular, is like our women actually bimbos
- 42:36Speaker 1: or do we just want you to think that we're
- 42:41Speaker 1: dumb and not know what we're doing because we don't
- 42:43Speaker 1: want to do free work for you, like free labor
- 42:48Speaker 1: on like and however you wanted to find that like
- 42:50Speaker 1: free labor emotionally, free labor, like physically, like we don't
- 42:54Speaker 1: want to do ship for you. And so now like
- 42:57Speaker 1: and part of what inspired this episode two is like
- 43:01Speaker 1: the girl Boss is dead, like the girl Boss Like
- 43:05Speaker 1: that's like the conversation that's happening now and we're in
- 43:08Speaker 1: the era of resting and what does resting mean? Like
- 43:11Speaker 1: we're going to do what we want and lounge and
- 43:15Speaker 1: not do free work. The free work is done, Yeah,
- 43:18Speaker 1: because we're too busy doing our own free work for ourselves.
- 43:22Speaker 1: We're not doing free work for you. We don't have time.
- 43:25Speaker 1: We're already doing a lot of unveaid labor. There's just
- 43:28Speaker 1: no room on the schedule. I'm with that and with that,
- 43:34Speaker 1: and I'm also look, I've been watching Love is Blind, right,
- 43:39Speaker 1: and there's this one couple on there where every time
- 43:43Speaker 1: the man gets asked, what do you like about her?
- 43:46Speaker 1: This is Jared. I I know where this is going,
- 43:49Speaker 1: and I have no I'm not even watching the show, right.
- 43:52Speaker 1: Everybody that asks him when he meets her family, what
- 43:55Speaker 1: do you like about Ayana? And he says her resilience.
- 43:58Speaker 1: She's so resilient. She's so resilient. She's just so strong.
- 44:02Speaker 1: She's just you know, bad things have happened to her
- 44:05Speaker 1: and she just picks herself up. But that is the
- 44:07Speaker 1: only answer he has given in every episode so far
- 44:11Speaker 1: this season, we're what five episodes out. They keep asking
- 44:14Speaker 1: him what they like about her. The only thing he
- 44:16Speaker 1: will say is resilient. Sometimes it's like, Okay, no, I
- 44:19Speaker 1: want you to think that I'm fragile and weak because
- 44:22Speaker 1: you're not going to put me through anything. I don't
- 44:23Speaker 1: want you to think that I'm resilient. I don't want
- 44:25Speaker 1: you to think that I can overcome any I cannot overcome.
- 44:29Speaker 1: Don't put me through anything. I am done over because
- 44:31Speaker 1: I can't. I can't do it. I saw this. I
- 44:34Speaker 1: saw this meme that was like it was like a
- 44:36Speaker 1: text post, and it was like, if I go through
- 44:38Speaker 1: any more character development, I'm going to develop into a villain.
- 44:42Speaker 1: I was like when I saw that, I was like,
- 44:45Speaker 1: literally fucking same. Not put me through any more growth
- 44:48Speaker 1: because I'm gonna snap, like I will become the villain.
- 44:52Speaker 1: Enough is enough, I hear you, I hear you. Yes,
- 44:55Speaker 1: It's like I just want to be treated gently and
- 44:58Speaker 1: kindly and that is all. Yes, my sister says, like
- 45:02Speaker 1: to be treated like glass. Yes, and that's the one.
- 45:06Speaker 1: I'm a bimbo made of glass. So so let's talk
- 45:10Speaker 1: about that because I'm sure that this topic could probably
- 45:13Speaker 1: make like some folks uncomfortable. Right because one of the
- 45:16Speaker 1: articles that I was reading, which is this Vice article
- 45:18Speaker 1: that we will link in the show notes and the
- 45:21Speaker 1: title is bimbification is taking over What does that mean
- 45:26Speaker 1: for you and so and so the one of the
- 45:33Speaker 1: folks that they talked to. Um, she says that people
- 45:37Speaker 1: tell her that she's putting feminism back by fifty years,
- 45:40Speaker 1: like she's she's like ruining it. Women have worked so hard,
- 45:44Speaker 1: they've broken allegedly the glass ceiling, blah blah blah, all
- 45:47Speaker 1: that stuff. And so what she says, and I'm going
- 45:50Speaker 1: to read the starct quote, I'm saying, maybe, instead of
- 45:53Speaker 1: dedicating our time to people who want to misunderstand us
- 45:56Speaker 1: no matter what we say or how we explain it,
- 45:58Speaker 1: why don't we just let them and let the results
- 46:01Speaker 1: at the end prove everything. Bimboism says, you don't have
- 46:06Speaker 1: to be unintelligent to choose happiness. You just need to
- 46:09Speaker 1: focus on thinking about things that actually matter, like community,
- 46:12Speaker 1: setting an example, and building others up, which can only
- 46:15Speaker 1: be achieved by building yourself up to the point where
- 46:18Speaker 1: you aren't plagued by anxieties, whether you are liked or loved,
- 46:21Speaker 1: whether you said the wrong thing, whether you are enough.
- 46:23Speaker 1: Bimbos say, who cares? I I mean that sounds like
- 46:28Speaker 1: an ideology. We can all get behind this, and Satanism
- 46:35Speaker 1: church that we loved every point we were like, yes,
- 46:38Speaker 1: are we Satanists. I think we're Satanists and bimbo we
- 46:42Speaker 1: are Satanist bimbos. That's it. Oh my god, our poor fathers,
- 46:48Speaker 1: our mothers, mothers, so and then I want this article
- 46:56Speaker 1: is so great, y'all. And I feel like, if you
- 46:57Speaker 1: want to learn more about like what folks are saying abo, bimboism,
- 47:00Speaker 1: and mainly like the children, like the gen z er is,
- 47:03Speaker 1: there are young adults, the young adults, what they're saying, Yes, um, well,
- 47:07Speaker 1: girl bust. Feminism says I may be a girl, but
- 47:09Speaker 1: I can climb the status quos ladder and succeed in
- 47:12Speaker 1: capitalism just like any other man. Meanwhile, bimboism says I'm
- 47:17Speaker 1: literally just here to vibe. Either vibe with me or
- 47:19Speaker 1: leave me alone. That's so real, and I feel like
- 47:23Speaker 1: that's an alignment with our lives. We're very much grinding
- 47:27Speaker 1: but also vibing. Yes, But the pod casting with everything
- 47:32Speaker 1: else that we do, it's like if you don't get it,
- 47:35Speaker 1: you gotta get out of the way. You don't get it.
- 47:38Speaker 1: It's like that other viral, like the girls they get
- 47:40Speaker 1: it get it, and the girls that don't don't yeah,
- 47:44Speaker 1: that's just what it is. That's just what it is.
- 47:46Speaker 1: And mind you, like, I am also just blown away
- 47:49Speaker 1: by how much TikTok has in from this episode, because
- 47:51Speaker 1: like we're like barely on tikto not on TikTok, but
- 47:55Speaker 1: it's already influencing so much of our lives. Okay, well
- 47:58Speaker 1: let me just share. Let me just share that the
- 48:01Speaker 1: reason I found this was because it was through Instagram
- 48:04Speaker 1: because Vice posted the article which led me to the Tigdong.
- 48:07Speaker 1: So I'm still very much on i G you know,
- 48:10Speaker 1: you know, but that, but this article was very much
- 48:13Speaker 1: informed by TikTok and what what the girls are saying,
- 48:17Speaker 1: what the bimbos are saying on TikTok. And something to
- 48:20Speaker 1: add to is like what I've seen in this conversation
- 48:23Speaker 1: is that bimbos are also like can be of any gender.
- 48:26Speaker 1: And when I was talking to our our makeup artist, Robert,
- 48:29Speaker 1: I was telling Robert about this episode and Robert was like, well,
- 48:32Speaker 1: I'm a bimbo, like I self identify as a bimbo,
- 48:35Speaker 1: and what we'll bring him on eventually to like talk
- 48:38Speaker 1: about his own bimboisms, but he's very much like I
- 48:42Speaker 1: want to look hot and I do my makeup and
- 48:44Speaker 1: I'm very smart, but I'm just not going to give
- 48:48Speaker 1: you access to that. No. And Robert, You're gonna see
- 48:51Speaker 1: a lot more of Robert this season season six. I mean,
- 48:54Speaker 1: starting with our pro amount, you're going to see more
- 48:57Speaker 1: of Robert. So look out, look up. Um. And then
- 49:03Speaker 1: you know, there's just been a lot of great like
- 49:05Speaker 1: think pieces about like bimbos um and there's like another
- 49:10Speaker 1: one by Refinery twenty nine. Um. And I want to
- 49:14Speaker 1: read this because I think this really informs like what
- 49:17Speaker 1: we believe at lok Um. Bimbification made its Internet debut
- 49:22Speaker 1: in the early adds as a controversial kink that eroticized
- 49:25Speaker 1: the transition from smart and modest to air headed and hot.
- 49:29Speaker 1: Then misogynists took a piece of erotic bimbo fan art
- 49:33Speaker 1: and flipped it to mourn the loss of the so
- 49:35Speaker 1: called smart, modest woman. It's a familiar in cell cry.
- 49:39Speaker 1: Society is spiraling out of control now that hot women
- 49:42Speaker 1: have the power to reject them. When bemification is no
- 49:45Speaker 1: longer anchored in the fetish scene, people are once again
- 49:48Speaker 1: craving bemification, only this time for themselves. Fascinating, There's something
- 49:55Speaker 1: here y'all there really is. Okay, you remember that mean
- 49:58Speaker 1: where it's like it's like that evolution of man. Is
- 50:02Speaker 1: that what they're talking about? Describe it? So that meme
- 50:06Speaker 1: that's like a plan the evolution of man where you
- 50:08Speaker 1: have like a girl in a hoodie and a backpack
- 50:12Speaker 1: and she's very dressed down reading a book, has glasses,
- 50:16Speaker 1: and then they draw different iterations of that girl and
- 50:19Speaker 1: slowly she becomes visually like sluttier bot. She loses the book,
- 50:26Speaker 1: loses the glasses, loses the hoodie, loses the jeans. She's
- 50:28Speaker 1: wearing like a tight pink you know, like micro dress,
- 50:33Speaker 1: and like what would be called stripper heels, blonde hair, notebook,
- 50:39Speaker 1: huge tits, nips showing basically, And so a bunch of
- 50:44Speaker 1: people online I remember that meme has become like okay,
- 50:49Speaker 1: no goals, Yes, that meme has become this was what
- 50:53Speaker 1: happened to me after college. Thank god, I've reached my
- 50:56Speaker 1: final form. Yes, yeah, So I guess this piece, like
- 50:59Speaker 1: a originated in the King community. And let me just say,
- 51:03Speaker 1: the King community is constantly informing like what we see
- 51:06Speaker 1: in like queer culture, feminist practices, like all of that,
- 51:10Speaker 1: and so this print or this piece of art um
- 51:14Speaker 1: that was taken and turned into like a meme by
- 51:16Speaker 1: like in cells, originated in the king community, and then
- 51:20Speaker 1: a lot of us like took power, like you're saying
- 51:22Speaker 1: like from it, like yeah goals, like yeah, that doesn't
- 51:25Speaker 1: happen to me, like when I got my relationship, you know,
- 51:29Speaker 1: all those things. So we're here for the bimbos, And
- 51:33Speaker 1: I think a lot of it has to do with access,
- 51:36Speaker 1: like who are you giving access to, like your full
- 51:40Speaker 1: self and who are you just like letting see like
- 51:44Speaker 1: I'm a pretty face? True, also very true, I think
- 51:49Speaker 1: to like in the age of the Internet, where you're
- 51:51Speaker 1: like constantly there's pressure to be super vulnerable to strangers
- 51:56Speaker 1: all the time every day, you know, when it's like actually,
- 51:59Speaker 1: I don't know you and don't know me, and you
- 52:00Speaker 1: don't need to know anything about my live facts. But
- 52:03Speaker 1: you could see the pretty stuff. Yeah, you could see
- 52:06Speaker 1: the bimbo ification and that's it, and that's it, and
- 52:10Speaker 1: that's it. I love it. In defensive bimbos, we're here
- 52:13Speaker 1: for them, We're here for bimbo culture. Hell yeah, we're
- 52:17Speaker 1: here for bimbos that are pro sex worker, pro black
- 52:21Speaker 1: lives Matter, pro everything, pro choice, pro choice. And here's
- 52:26Speaker 1: the thing that the idea that one today with something
- 52:30Speaker 1: like this bimbo ifaication can be setting us back fifty years.
- 52:33Speaker 1: It's like, okay, but we're still fighting some of the
- 52:35Speaker 1: same battles we were fighting fifty years ago, like book
- 52:39Speaker 1: bannings Um, the right to choose like is being argued
- 52:43Speaker 1: like at the federal level again again. So yeah, exactly,
- 52:47Speaker 1: we're having the same conversation, the same conversation battling the
- 52:51Speaker 1: same second battles, so we might as well still be
- 52:56Speaker 1: doing this. Basically, it's we're tired of thinking. It's true
- 53:02Speaker 1: that No. I think there's just a lot of there's
- 53:05Speaker 1: a lot of pressure to like always say something profound
- 53:10Speaker 1: and thoughtful and like contribute to the discourse when actually,
- 53:16Speaker 1: like we can just pass the mic and like uplift
- 53:19Speaker 1: what people are saying already and like we ourselves don't
- 53:23Speaker 1: have to say everything. And I think that's partly like
- 53:27Speaker 1: we've made our dues, y'all, Like weren't season six, like
- 53:30Speaker 1: you like, if you want to go back to the
- 53:32Speaker 1: really nitty gritty heavy discourse, they go to the earlier seasons.
- 53:35Speaker 1: That doesn't mean you're not going to get anything like
- 53:37Speaker 1: super deep and profound now. But it's like we can
- 53:40Speaker 1: talk about bimbos and we don't also don't have to
- 53:43Speaker 1: talk about every single thing that's important because it's literally impossible.
- 53:47Speaker 1: We also were having this conversation. We weren't using the
- 53:50Speaker 1: term bimbo, but in early episodes we were talking about
- 53:53Speaker 1: just this, you know, about the the fem as valid
- 54:00Speaker 1: and femininity is valid, and the science behind it, the
- 54:04Speaker 1: technology behind it, the performance, the ritual, all of it.
- 54:08Speaker 1: You know, I mean, I would argue that like our
- 54:11Speaker 1: what is it three like core episodes fem Tech, Multidimensional
- 54:15Speaker 1: Home and Goddess Worship. Our combination of bembification and what
- 54:20Speaker 1: folks are calling bemification, we've already defined it in our
- 54:23Speaker 1: own terms under the look audio verse. We predate TikTok.
- 54:29Speaker 1: Just remember that. Remember that, And I think that because
- 54:34Speaker 1: there's evolution to things, right, like even like that's why
- 54:38Speaker 1: folks go and get their PhDs and like continue on
- 54:41Speaker 1: discourse and to write and they have their dissertations. Like
- 54:45Speaker 1: for example, before us like kim Alan had fem science right,
- 54:50Speaker 1: and then Loba has I would lead the knowledge. You know,
- 54:53Speaker 1: we're all like creating these different terms for our own
- 54:57Speaker 1: communities and our own definition of them as well. So
- 55:02Speaker 1: much to say. I mean, we were talking about a
- 55:04Speaker 1: lot of this stuff also when we were being invited
- 55:06Speaker 1: to universities. Um, we're this more kind of discursive conversations, Yes,
- 55:14Speaker 1: if you will. But you know, these days we're making content.
- 55:18Speaker 1: You know, we're podcasting, we're trying to feed the algorithm.
- 55:21Speaker 1: We're trying to keep keep things up and get content
- 55:25Speaker 1: out for you guys. And honestly, like there's also like
- 55:29Speaker 1: just so much going on in the world. There's pop culture,
- 55:31Speaker 1: there's current events, and we want to be able to
- 55:34Speaker 1: touch on a little bit of everything. So thank you
