- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30How do you define quality time? It's interesting question
- 0:34because everybody has a different version of it, right?
- 0:38Depending upon what you're doing, where you are, who you're
- 0:40with, what is quality time? Like if I spend quality time
- 0:46with somebody and I'm I'm working towards making that
- 0:50person feel important in my life, am I focusing on my
- 0:54version of quality time or their version of quality time?
- 0:59What a very introspective question to ask.
- 1:02Well, it's important because each one of us has different
- 1:05rules for quality time and what it means.
- 1:08So for me personally, quality time is where somebody's, you
- 1:14know, digging in, spending time doing the things that I want to
- 1:18do and enjoying it with me. So that might be gardening, it
- 1:22might be plant shopping, it might be doing some sort of
- 1:27work, artwork, things like that that I love to do so much.
- 1:32Recently, my daughter and I, we signed up to go to clay, to go
- 1:37to a clay class, like wheel class where we could learn how
- 1:39to do pottery. And we spent, you know, 4 hours
- 1:44every week for six weeks doing this class.
- 1:48And I consider that real quality time because it was something
- 1:52that she wanted to do and it was something that I wanted to do.
- 1:55And we engaged in it together and we got to meet up at a
- 1:59place, sit down, laugh, look at our stuff, come out with things.
- 2:03It was very fun quality time. I got to spend real quality time
- 2:08with her. So is it quality time?
- 2:10Someone recently asked me, is it quality time when we are just
- 2:15hanging out and we're watching TV?
- 2:18And I was like, well, it can be if that's what you want it to
- 2:20be. It doesn't have to be if that's,
- 2:23you know, not what you want. It's more about is it agreeable
- 2:27to everybody? Is it agreeable to you?
- 2:30So As for some people, quality time is just taking a space and
- 2:33saying I'm just going to sit down and I'm just going to watch
- 2:35TV for a little while. Because if I don't take a break,
- 2:38if I just don't sit down and relax, I'm not going to have any
- 2:41time by myself anytime soon. And I just want to be by myself.
- 2:45I just want to sit back and relax.
- 2:47I want to watch an episode of something I've already seen 100
- 2:49times like Seinfeld or something like that.
- 2:52And I just, I just want to chill out by myself.
- 2:55Nothing wrong with that. If that's the quality time and
- 2:57how you define it, that's OK. Again, I know you guys hear me
- 3:01say this a lot, but quality time is defined or all of our things
- 3:06are defined by our own definitions of it and how we
- 3:09have to keep checking in on it. It is a fact, it is a hard fact
- 3:13in the world that we need to keep checking in on what how we
- 3:17define things. That way we understand what they
- 3:19mean to us. And if we don't know what the
- 3:21definitions are for our partners, our friends, people at
- 3:24work, we'll never know. So you can think all you want
- 3:28about buying somebody a gift, but if it's not something that
- 3:31they want or something that they can appreciate all the time that
- 3:35you put into it might not be registered the same way because
- 3:38that person isn't thinking that you took the time to think about
- 3:41them. They took that you took maybe
- 3:42took the time to just think about the fact that you wanted
- 3:45to give them a gift, but you focused on what you would want
- 3:47as a gift as opposed to them because you have different rules
- 3:50for it. So it comes back to time is no
- 3:54different because time is precious, right?
- 3:56We all have limited amounts of time and we have to make sure
- 4:00we're doing an excellent job at using our time wisely.
- 4:04So when we spend quality time, we want to really spend quality
- 4:08time. Like even with my chickens, when
- 4:10I come out here and I sit down, I don't just come out and I sit
- 4:13on my phone while I sit in the chicken, you know, run with
- 4:16them. Even though they're all out
- 4:18walking around, there they are. Wherever they may be, I am.
- 4:22I come, I sit. I wait for them to come and sit
- 4:25with me. It's all purposeful.
- 4:27I'm on task with this. I'm sitting here and I'm
- 4:30spending time with them. That's probably why a lot of
- 4:32them just come and they sit with me and they don't jump up.
- 4:36They like sit on my lap. They want to sit with me, they
- 4:38want to hang out with me. But it's partly because I'm very
- 4:41present and I'm on purpose with it.
- 4:43I am spending what I think is quality time with them, giving
- 4:47them snacks, doing whatever. That's quality time.
- 4:50And that's their version of quality time, not just my
- 4:53version, but their version. So this is, this is a, a work in
- 4:58progress for most people to figure out how other people
- 5:01determine quality time. You have to do some research,
- 5:05you have to ask questions, you have to dig in with those around
- 5:09you that you actually care about and ask the right questions,
- 5:13collect the right information so that you can make good choices.
- 5:16Because when you make good choices, you make people happy.
- 5:19And isn't that what this is all about?
- 5:20Life is very short. Making yourself and making other
- 5:23people happy. That's what it's all about my
- 5:25friends. So I hope you have a very
- 5:27blessed day and I will see you tomorrow for some more quality
- 5:30time here. Bye.
