- 0:02Speaker 1: NBA basketball fans, Welcome back to the NBA Playoff Banter Podcast.
- 0:07Speaker 1: He's Marshall, I'm Chris, and we're here to talk conference
- 0:12Speaker 1: final hoops talk. Baby. This is we Thank god we
- 0:17Speaker 1: got two to one series. It really did feel like
- 0:20Speaker 1: at least one, if not both, would go three in
- 0:24Speaker 1: Oh we'll talk a little bit about that fact that
- 0:27Speaker 1: it's been a quite a while, more than you think about,
- 0:32Speaker 1: you know, having these conference finals, especially the West Conference
- 0:35Speaker 1: Final not be three and oh so that's hopefully that's
- 0:39Speaker 1: a you know, sign of good things to come when
- 0:42Speaker 1: it comes to that, you know, as a fan. We're
- 0:45Speaker 1: gonna start with the Oka see Timberwolves series. You know,
- 0:49Speaker 1: the the Oka see really the third quarter has been
- 0:53Speaker 1: their quarter through the first two games. They just went
- 0:59Speaker 1: nuts in about four to six minute stretch in both
- 1:03Speaker 1: quarters third quarters in game one, in Game two, and
- 1:09Speaker 1: then obviously a huge explosion that the game was pretty
- 1:12Speaker 1: much over after the first quarter, even though sometimeril SAMs
- 1:16Speaker 1: are still a little nervous, even though it was up
- 1:18Speaker 1: by forty. They were like, yeah, but we just gotta
- 1:20Speaker 1: see what this fourth quarter is gonna look like. And
- 1:23Speaker 1: then of course the Indie nixt freaking the Pacers set
- 1:30Speaker 1: in the pace like go up two oh for back
- 1:33Speaker 1: to back series now winning both road games, I mean,
- 1:37Speaker 1: what are the odds of that? We'll obviously discuss that
- 1:41Speaker 1: wild ending, well not even ending, but to force overtime.
- 1:46Speaker 1: It seemed like it was gonna be the ending, and
- 1:48Speaker 1: then of course Towns went off in the fourth quarter.
- 1:52Speaker 1: All three games have been really interesting, though, so we're gonna,
- 1:56Speaker 1: you know, recap a little bit and then give our thoughts.
- 1:59Speaker 1: You know, we've already given our predictions, but has that
- 2:02Speaker 1: changed it all? And can we get one of these
- 2:06Speaker 1: games to go or one of these series I should say,
- 2:09Speaker 1: to go to a sixth game or a seventh, but
- 2:14Speaker 1: just to get to a sixth game would be nice.
- 2:18Speaker 1: If both of them end in five. There's that big
- 2:21Speaker 1: gap between now in this in the in the finals,
- 2:23Speaker 1: and it just it just it kind of kills the
- 2:25Speaker 1: momentum like it did last year. So we are going
- 2:28Speaker 1: to dive into this in just a second. If this
- 2:31Speaker 1: year first time listening to the NBA Playoff Answer Podcast

- 3:42Speaker 1: ahead and bring in my co host Marshall kind of
- 3:46Speaker 1: long winned end the in the intro. First and foremost, Marshall,
- 3:51Speaker 1: how are you doing on this fine Memorial Day? And
- 3:57Speaker 1: you know, like I said, at least we're not sitting
- 4:00Speaker 1: at three to ohero in both series because it kind
- 4:04Speaker 1: of felt that way.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Man, So are you saying in Life is Good? Chris?
- 4:08Speaker 2: Thanks for ask Are you saying for Wolves rope three
- 4:11Speaker 2: to zero? You'd be upset? As the host of the show, I.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Surely would not. I'd be like, you know, it's better
- 4:17Speaker 1: when it's dominant. People like to see domination. Bro. I'd
- 4:21Speaker 1: be coming up with eighteen different excuses why this is
- 4:24Speaker 1: good for the league and good for our country and
- 4:27Speaker 1: all that shit.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, all right, all right, but yeah, hey, we're
- 4:30Speaker 2: it's it's been some entertainment. Obviously, the if you bet
- 4:35Speaker 2: the favorite team to actually okay, so his favorite game three,
- 4:38Speaker 2: But yeah we're looking for a close Wolves. Okay, see,
- 4:42Speaker 2: just make a little more funny entertainment. And hey, you
- 4:47Speaker 2: know we were.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Taking a fifty point blowout too.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Yeah, we were referencing the Reggie Miller the Knicks, because again,
- 4:54Speaker 2: like I said last show, that's how I kind of
- 4:56Speaker 2: grew up watching basketball with, Like I love John Starks
- 4:59Speaker 2: and all those guys back of the day, and you
- 5:01Speaker 2: had a Regie Miller reference to that in that game.
- 5:03Speaker 2: But so it's sam a little bit of every.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Reggie Miller calling the game too.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Yeah, so yeah, but hey, yeah, what life is good? Man? Uh.
- 5:12Speaker 2: One of my good buddies actually going to the Wolves
- 5:14Speaker 2: game tonight too, so he'll he'll be there cheering. That
- 5:16Speaker 2: one starts pretty soon. So hopefully your your squad, his squad,
- 5:20Speaker 2: my buddy, and everyone's happy. Hopefully that goes back to
- 5:22Speaker 2: two to two. So I'm sure the target center will
- 5:25Speaker 2: be allowed tonight, my friend, I'm sure he'll be loud.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely, no doubt about that. And when you look
- 5:33Speaker 1: at that game one, let's jump right in the OKC
- 5:36Speaker 1: TEA Wolves series. You know, it's forty eight to forty four.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Wolves are uh, they're playing pretty good, but it could
- 5:44Speaker 1: have been more. It could have been double digits right there.
- 5:47Speaker 1: You know, had they hit some more shots, I'm not
- 5:49Speaker 1: saying they'd be up by nineteen, but they would be
- 5:52Speaker 1: up a fair amount. And I think the first two games,
- 5:58Speaker 1: the each core okay, see, really showed how to end
- 6:02Speaker 1: the quarter. You know, they really did a really good
- 6:05Speaker 1: job at that, and even through the third quarter though,
- 6:08Speaker 1: I'm looking at the score at sixty sixty under six
- 6:11Speaker 1: minutes left, and then okayse goes on a sixteen to
- 6:15Speaker 1: six run to close the quarter, Wolves couldn't cut the lead.
- 6:19Speaker 1: The Thunder just kind of cruised to it. Way too
- 6:23Speaker 1: many mid range shots available for Sga and Williams Jalen Williams.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Ant struggled in the first game, and then through the
- 6:33Speaker 1: first two games the bench struggled, you know, with threes.
- 6:38Speaker 1: But that I mean there there was a point where
- 6:40Speaker 1: they're like five to twenty four, and I think in
- 6:44Speaker 1: the corner they were like four to twenty one or
- 6:46Speaker 1: something like. It was just like all three just struggled mightily.
- 6:50Speaker 1: And he of course not all three, you know, Nas
- 6:54Speaker 1: Dante and Alexander Walker. They're not all three gonna come
- 6:56Speaker 1: in and start just killing it. You know, of course
- 6:59Speaker 1: some is not gonna have a good night. But even
- 7:01Speaker 1: if you just get one to hit like four or five,
- 7:05Speaker 1: or or two of them, he hits three, that other
- 7:07Speaker 1: dude gets four, you know, that was a big struggle.
- 7:10Speaker 1: So so you know, heading into game two once again, okay,
- 7:16Speaker 1: see is up only fifty three to fifty. Nearing the
- 7:20Speaker 1: end of the second quarter, right Ant brings the ball up,
- 7:24Speaker 1: we could maybe tie the game. Potentially, they go on
- 7:27Speaker 1: a five zero run. It's fifty eight to fifty. They
- 7:31Speaker 1: go up by double digits pretty quick. The Wolf's fight
- 7:35Speaker 1: back and all that, but the Thunder, you know, just
- 7:39Speaker 1: kept answering every single time. I think they got it
- 7:41Speaker 1: down to nine and they just would answer with a run. Actually,
- 7:45Speaker 1: by the end of the third Corter emotional, it was
- 7:48Speaker 1: ninety three to seventy one. Like I said, they rallied
- 7:52Speaker 1: to get it one oh five ninety four or four
- 7:54Speaker 1: minutes left, but it just didn't matter. Okay, see kept
- 8:00Speaker 1: sering Randalton play well. The bench got going near the
- 8:05Speaker 1: end of the game, but it was too little, too late,
- 8:09Speaker 1: and then they made adjustments, you know for game three,
- 8:11Speaker 1: and a lot of it had to do with going
- 8:15Speaker 1: from zone. I kind of not that do you ever
- 8:18Speaker 1: want to like, you're never gonna be in zone, but
- 8:21Speaker 1: that was such a big thing the zone for Denver
- 8:25Speaker 1: in that last series that we went with that I
- 8:27Speaker 1: think too long in the first two games, and you
- 8:30Speaker 1: could tell there was a lot of gap out and
- 8:33Speaker 1: recovery to your guy. And also they brought Rudy up
- 8:37Speaker 1: much higher to take away that just oh you're gonna
- 8:40Speaker 1: give me the midrange. Cool, we'll go me and Williams
- 8:43Speaker 1: will go fifteen to twenty from two. How do you
- 8:46Speaker 1: like that?
- 8:48Speaker 2: So that is a common trend because I just had
- 8:51Speaker 2: a flashback of last year where the end of quarters.
- 8:54Speaker 2: I don't know if that is just bad luck, I'm
- 8:56Speaker 2: not sure, if it's coaching, I'm not sure if it's
- 8:58Speaker 2: in the fact you don't have a true just like
- 9:00Speaker 2: a handler point guard. But if you remember that Dallas
- 9:02Speaker 2: series last year, I am I'm ninety eight percent sure
- 9:06Speaker 2: there was moments in games one and two and almost
- 9:08Speaker 2: three where the end of quarter in the first halfs
- 9:11Speaker 2: they would let Luca go on and run or let
- 9:12Speaker 2: the Maps go on to run, And this is now
- 9:14Speaker 2: happening again to them, so that it does make you
- 9:16Speaker 2: kind of wonder, Like I know that sometimes Chris teams
- 9:21Speaker 2: do go on like runs in the court, but that's
- 9:23Speaker 2: a huge part of basketball, and the fact that we're
- 9:25Speaker 2: repeating that part again, it's like they gotta value the
- 9:28Speaker 2: ball a little more because that could be the difference
- 9:30Speaker 2: of a game like that. Literally, if you look back
- 9:32Speaker 2: the Dallas it really is those Dallas scores were affected
- 9:35Speaker 2: because they were closer down to the stretch and then
- 9:37Speaker 2: you had Luke hit that crazy water and go bear.
- 9:39Speaker 2: But like obviously the OKAYC series, the scores have been
- 9:42Speaker 2: further apart, but it does make you wonder why can't
- 9:45Speaker 2: they finish quarters that well, the first halps that well,
- 9:48Speaker 2: Because the way you walk into the locker room is
- 9:51Speaker 2: a mental mindset per se. So I don't know if
- 9:54Speaker 2: that's just something, but that that's a probably can't have continue, right,
- 9:58Speaker 2: especially because the wolve chance to be champs this year,
- 10:01Speaker 2: But you can't have every time when we're doing these podcasts,
- 10:05Speaker 2: like well, Dan, the Wolves had were up three and
- 10:07Speaker 2: they went in a halftime down two, or they were
- 10:09Speaker 2: down five, now they're down ten, Like that is something
- 10:12Speaker 2: we're like, I just I don't know worked clock better.
- 10:16Speaker 2: But aside from that trend, we need to see go
- 10:19Speaker 2: away for your boys. I just really felt watching those
- 10:23Speaker 2: first games, Okay, see that defensively they showed why they
- 10:27Speaker 2: were a team that won sixty eight games this year.
- 10:31Speaker 2: The Wolves were doing nothing easy on offense. Now I
- 10:33Speaker 2: know Julius Randall had a great second quarter of Game one,
- 10:38Speaker 2: but it just seemed like the Wolves were kind of
- 10:41Speaker 2: a step behind, or the OKC defense was like really
- 10:43Speaker 2: clapping down and you hit a couple threes here and there,
- 10:47Speaker 2: but the bench was really disappear in Game one, and
- 10:49Speaker 2: Ant couldn't quite go off, and he did want to
- 10:52Speaker 2: drive as much to the line. I think he drove
- 10:55Speaker 2: to the whole like one time in Game one, but
- 10:57Speaker 2: SGA was getting fouls sitting.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Right in the lane, like you're just not gonna come
- 11:02Speaker 1: down here, sorry.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Buddy, and you know, And I do think that was
- 11:06Speaker 2: something metsally got in the Wolves's head in just some eyests,
- 11:08Speaker 2: because even with the postgame comments, it's like SGA did
- 11:11Speaker 2: get a lot of home fouls and like, you know,
- 11:13Speaker 2: they get the free throw merchant chant and he's MVP
- 11:16Speaker 2: and all that stuff. But like I did feel like
- 11:18Speaker 2: as a team collected to be the Wolves were pretty
- 11:20Speaker 2: pissed to the rest. Now I probably would be too
- 11:22Speaker 2: if I was a dire Wolves fan or coach Finch,
- 11:24Speaker 2: but I almost felt like, you know, it's all those
- 11:27Speaker 2: things were like, well, if we're gonna get the call,
- 11:29Speaker 2: we're not going to drive. Like the the drive to
- 11:31Speaker 2: the basket stats of Game one were crazy about. I
- 11:34Speaker 2: think okay Se had like twenty eight drives to the
- 11:37Speaker 2: goal as a team and the Wolves were a much
- 11:39Speaker 2: much lower number. So that's one of those things where
- 11:41Speaker 2: I think they let the refs way they're called the
- 11:44Speaker 2: game cramp in their mindset a little bit, which does
- 11:46Speaker 2: you know good I know it's.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Was like somewhere in the second quarter, like eight minutes
- 11:52Speaker 1: in yeah, first one, you know, and there.
- 11:56Speaker 2: And when you're playing a team was so good at hold,
- 11:58Speaker 2: like you can't afford to have even a bit of
- 12:00Speaker 2: a mental nightset. That's gonna body, but it is what
- 12:02Speaker 2: is game two again? First half close game random was
- 12:07Speaker 2: a little bit colder, which didn't help. But even the
- 12:08Speaker 2: first act like okay, quite flip, but that third quarter
- 12:12Speaker 2: really did. Now the bench was slightly better Game two,
- 12:16Speaker 2: but it was.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Like late it was in the fourth quarter, you know,
- 12:20Speaker 1: had they just been decent. We're not asking to score
- 12:23Speaker 1: thirty off the bench, but just knock down open shots,
- 12:26Speaker 1: you know.
- 12:27Speaker 2: And the other part I thought was, uh, the that
- 12:34Speaker 2: the okay see bigs after they had this pretty solid
- 12:36Speaker 2: game too, like Hertz and Stein was making his slam
- 12:39Speaker 2: ducks and Chat was attacking so that in his.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Little like eight foot push shot he's really good at.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, So you know, like part of it's
- 12:47Speaker 2: like you know, like sometimes re stops him something, you know,
- 12:50Speaker 2: it's not all him, but it's like I thought that
- 12:52Speaker 2: the okay See Biggs were solid game two as opposed
- 12:55Speaker 2: to Nas and Rudy and I guess we called Minnesota big.
- 12:58Speaker 2: So you definitely had to feel a little deflated. But
- 13:01Speaker 2: as I was telling you, and the reason that I
- 13:04Speaker 2: bet the Wolves, you know, moving forward for get three,
- 13:06Speaker 2: was like, hey, you know, okay See did the same
- 13:08Speaker 2: thing to Memphis. They whooped their butt, but then when
- 13:10Speaker 2: Memphis came home for Game three, they were up twenty seven.
- 13:13Speaker 2: So the back of my head, I'm like, okay, Wolves
- 13:15Speaker 2: down oh two. But I think this Chris is part
- 13:19Speaker 2: of the fact that they're not experienced enough yet because
- 13:21Speaker 2: they win the title, for sure, but they don't have
- 13:24Speaker 2: that Golden State Warriors. For my example, DNA of a
- 13:26Speaker 2: team of Vets to where hey, you cut, you come
- 13:29Speaker 2: in hot, you win your first two, you go out
- 13:32Speaker 2: the road, take a foot off the gas. Not that
- 13:33Speaker 2: they don't try to win, obviously they do, no.
- 13:35Speaker 1: But I know you gotta go for that stuff because
- 13:37Speaker 1: even before they won the championship, what you're talking about,
- 13:40Speaker 1: remember they they made like a splash and got up
- 13:42Speaker 1: the second round and got up on the Spurs and
- 13:45Speaker 1: then they lost the next season in the seven game series,
- 13:48Speaker 1: they come back and win the whole fucking thing. You know,
- 13:51Speaker 1: it takes a lot of education.
- 13:53Speaker 2: It takes a lot of DNA and history building to
- 13:55Speaker 2: be able to win that game on the road when
- 13:57Speaker 2: you're pushed to get your backs with a whole if
- 14:00Speaker 2: he use Baxter gets the wall, you can win that game.
- 14:02Speaker 2: That's a true team. But we don't see those quite
- 14:06Speaker 2: often because it takes a lot for Tea to buildup
- 14:08Speaker 2: at DNA.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that's well said. And in that third quarter
- 14:14Speaker 1: through two games, sixty seven to thirty nine outscored the
- 14:19Speaker 1: Timbrills out scored the OKC was twenty six forty four
- 14:24Speaker 1: from the field. That's fifty nine percent to twelve of
- 14:28Speaker 1: thirty nine thirty one percent, So sixty seven to thirty
- 14:31Speaker 1: one in the first two games in the third quarter,
- 14:33Speaker 1: So I mean that is basically right there. And also
- 14:39Speaker 1: since game seven, Game seven, Game one, in game two,
- 14:45Speaker 1: Williams has been you know, he had a rough game
- 14:48Speaker 1: in this last one, but he was damn good too,
- 14:50Speaker 1: and he was eating up those mid ranges that we
- 14:53Speaker 1: were giving him, like fully giving them, you know. So
- 14:57Speaker 1: but I did like I guess I guess I probably
- 15:01Speaker 1: would have liked the adjustment a little bit earlier. But
- 15:04Speaker 1: I did like how we brought Rudy up. And you know,
- 15:07Speaker 1: a couple of years ago we were playing that style
- 15:10Speaker 1: of defense, and we we we really forced Rudy to
- 15:13Speaker 1: cover on the perimeter at times because we knew it
- 15:16Speaker 1: was gonna be it was gonna happen anyway, and he's
- 15:17Speaker 1: improved a lot. They didn't really ask him to do
- 15:20Speaker 1: that in Utah and and it was effective. You know,
- 15:25Speaker 1: he had his worst game of the year I think
- 15:28Speaker 1: regular season as well SGA so in NAS you know,
- 15:33Speaker 1: he still had these dumb fouls, but he did. He
- 15:40Speaker 1: got he saw the ball go through. Same with Dante,
- 15:42Speaker 1: Alexander Walker got it going. And and yeah, less zone,
- 15:49Speaker 1: more up front, more kind of the defense they're playing too.
- 15:52Speaker 1: We talked about previewing this series the elbows and you know,
- 15:56Speaker 1: like in the box and elbows you're gonna be right
- 15:59Speaker 1: in there and not just allow drives left and right.
- 16:02Speaker 1: And when you already like that and then you got
- 16:05Speaker 1: bigs behind you too, that's a tough defense to get
- 16:08Speaker 1: through and you got to be patient. So I did
- 16:11Speaker 1: like that they had first and foremost, it felt like
- 16:16Speaker 1: Ant got the ball inside the three point line more
- 16:20Speaker 1: and let them let him work there or calmly or
- 16:23Speaker 1: somebody else to bring the ball up, and then he
- 16:25Speaker 1: wouldn't even be you know, he'd be off ball and
- 16:28Speaker 1: they'd run screens for him and double screens, and there
- 16:32Speaker 1: was even a couple of players where I'm like that
- 16:33Speaker 1: kind of looked like how they got Curry open. You know. Now,
- 16:36Speaker 1: Aunt can't run around like that for a whole game. Uh,
- 16:40Speaker 1: He's still got some years of off season training to
- 16:42Speaker 1: get to that level. Because he even said this summer, like,
- 16:46Speaker 1: you know, he's asking Currie, how the f do you
- 16:49Speaker 1: do this? You know, like he's like, yeah, dude, it's
- 16:51Speaker 1: just a lot of off season and you just build
- 16:54Speaker 1: it up over time, you know. And he also had
- 16:57Speaker 1: a conversation with Jordan recently and Jordan said, you gotta
- 17:01Speaker 1: be you gotta be in shape to last till July.
- 17:04Speaker 1: And He's like, July is like the finals are in Junity.
- 17:08Speaker 1: He's like exactly, you know, like yep, but you gotta
- 17:11Speaker 1: be ready to go an extra step even past that.
- 17:14Speaker 1: So I think some of that is as Ant gets
- 17:17Speaker 1: in tip top elite level shape. In the coming years,
- 17:22Speaker 1: I think we'll be able to have him run more
- 17:25Speaker 1: because him running a lot, like on the move like
- 17:28Speaker 1: that really opens it up, man. And you can just
- 17:31Speaker 1: see when when there's a little split opening there they were.
- 17:35Speaker 1: It wasn't really the pick and roll with Rudy because
- 17:38Speaker 1: he doesn't really pass th Rudy much. But in fact,
- 17:41Speaker 1: there's this play near the end when we're just killing
- 17:44Speaker 1: him in the second half where he pulls up on
- 17:47Speaker 1: three guys. You know, An has a shooter to his right,
- 17:51Speaker 1: a shooter to the in the corner in Rudy under
- 17:53Speaker 1: the hoop like I could dunk it, you know, you know,
- 17:56Speaker 1: he made the shot. But yeah, that's uh. I did
- 18:00Speaker 1: like some of the adjustments in there, and like I said,
- 18:05Speaker 1: running them off screens, double screens sometimes. Randall had a
- 18:09Speaker 1: great first game. Second game was rough. They went with
- 18:12Speaker 1: a different lineup. In fact, in the fourth quarter, we
- 18:15Speaker 1: didn't really play Rudy game one this in the second one.
- 18:19Speaker 1: We didn't play Randall in the fourth because we wanted
- 18:21Speaker 1: to try to get more shooters out there and he
- 18:24Speaker 1: was having a bad game. And to his credit, he
- 18:27Speaker 1: came right back and had a great game, you know,
- 18:30Speaker 1: came right back and there's no problem there. So that
- 18:33Speaker 1: is something about this locker room and this team is
- 18:37Speaker 1: you know, people are willing. Like we went on runs
- 18:40Speaker 1: in the last two series without Amp and he didn't
- 18:43Speaker 1: get into like six minutes of the fourth. But it
- 18:45Speaker 1: was like, hey, dude, we're hot, you know, just like
- 18:47Speaker 1: last night. Actually Brunson he was in foul problems, but
- 18:49Speaker 1: they could have put him in a earlier but it
- 18:51Speaker 1: was like, hey, this is a hot unit. Like I
- 18:53Speaker 1: like when coaches do that. Now you can go over
- 18:55Speaker 1: the top of that too, and you're like, I, dude,
- 18:58Speaker 1: time to bring in the starters, you know her. So
- 19:02Speaker 1: I did like that. I liked some of the adjustments,
- 19:06Speaker 1: but obviously, like you know, we can't depend on him
- 19:10Speaker 1: having six points or sixteen points in the first quarter.
- 19:13Speaker 1: But overall they're plus eight and assists ten and rebounds
- 19:17Speaker 1: six less turnovers. That was a big deal. Making them
- 19:20Speaker 1: turn the ball over and not turn the ball over
- 19:23Speaker 1: much and points in the paint was a big, big,
- 19:27Speaker 1: huge discrepancy from the first two games. And actually that
- 19:33Speaker 1: that first quarter was the lowest, the fewest points that
- 19:37Speaker 1: they've scored in the playoffs. So far, and then also
- 19:42Speaker 1: a guy that we have for ultimately once you exercised
- 19:46Speaker 1: the contract three more years. Terrence Shannon and Terrence Shannon
- 19:52Speaker 1: Junior came in and just sparked right away. He freaking
- 19:56Speaker 1: came in, had nine points real quick. But overall, Shay
- 20:00Speaker 1: had four free throws, four field goals, and four turnovers.
- 20:04Speaker 1: That's what he had for the game. So that was
- 20:07Speaker 1: that was pretty pretty amazing. I think you only had
- 20:10Speaker 1: like fourteen points or something like that. Here's a crazy stat. Okay,
- 20:15Speaker 1: this is opt the stats. Now, there's three times in
- 20:19Speaker 1: NBA history that a season MVP has lost by forty
- 20:25Speaker 1: two points. Right. Obviously, SGA just lost Jokic last year.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Remember that big old blowout that they had. I don't
- 20:36Speaker 1: know if you remember, but it was game six. They
- 20:38Speaker 1: beat him by like a lot, They beat him by
- 20:41Speaker 1: forty five. Right, and then here's the kicker, so it's
- 20:45Speaker 1: on they had him three times. Right back in nineteen
- 20:49Speaker 1: fifty six, the Minneapolis Lakers beat Bob Pettitt by fifty eight.
- 20:57Speaker 1: So the only three times that's happened where the MVP
- 21:01Speaker 1: candidates team got beat by plus forty or at least
- 21:05Speaker 1: forty two points it has been all us, which is
- 21:08Speaker 1: pretty crazy. I did see this stat though that everybody,
- 21:12Speaker 1: you know, some stats story, like all right, dude, but
- 21:14Speaker 1: this doesn't really line up. So no team is lost
- 21:17Speaker 1: by forty in the playoffs and went on to win
- 21:20Speaker 1: the championship. However, thirty seven and thirty there's like three
- 21:26Speaker 1: teams in Golden State's one of them. A few years ago,
- 21:29Speaker 1: remember when Memphis whipped their ass?
- 21:31Speaker 2: Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, yeah, oh they they just show
- 21:34Speaker 2: up that game.
- 21:35Speaker 1: And it's like, like that stat means nothing. It sounds
- 21:39Speaker 1: great to like a Timbrel fan, like, oh for real, dude,
- 21:42Speaker 1: So that means they can't win, you know. But no,
- 21:45Speaker 1: there was like three teams in that timeframe that had
- 21:49Speaker 1: lost by like thirty seven, thirty eight, and thirty nine,
- 21:51Speaker 1: you know. So it's just below forty. So it really
- 21:53Speaker 1: doesn't mean a damn thing really in the in the end,
- 21:57Speaker 1: so the offense is trending upwards. So so what are
- 22:02Speaker 1: your thoughts here? Man? Coming into game four, we got
- 22:05Speaker 1: tipping like forty five minutes. Obviously it's a must win,
- 22:10Speaker 1: just as in a sense, just as much as Game
- 22:13Speaker 1: three was really you know, can you get down three
- 22:16Speaker 1: to one? And come back. Yeah, it's a lot easier.
- 22:18Speaker 1: It's a lot less difficult than three to zero because
- 22:21Speaker 1: it's never gonna happen. But it's so you know that
- 22:23Speaker 1: that's where you're getting like, all right, dude, now you
- 22:25Speaker 1: get to win four straight or three straight? Do you
- 22:29Speaker 1: think this can go to a game six and beyond? Now,
- 22:34Speaker 1: obviously you'd assume that the Timbrolve's gonna win it being
- 22:37Speaker 1: seven that was my production, But do you think they
- 22:42Speaker 1: can do it? Because even if they lost, there's still
- 22:44Speaker 1: a good road team. You never know, But do you
- 22:48Speaker 1: think it's gonna go six? Or is it? Like, man,
- 22:51Speaker 1: it just doesn't It feels like, okay, see he's just
- 22:55Speaker 1: you know, can they be a little mentally disturbed off
- 22:58Speaker 1: of what just happened if the first quarter doesn't go
- 23:01Speaker 1: that well or something like that, or well, they'll be
- 23:03Speaker 1: embarrassed and they're like, f this, we're coming back and
- 23:08Speaker 1: we could have just you know, bit the bear right there.
- 23:11Speaker 1: We could have woke up a bear and they're pissed
- 23:13Speaker 1: at us. Now, what do you think what was your
- 23:16Speaker 1: seven or six or something like that? Right?
- 23:18Speaker 2: I think I guess the Wolves in seven? Yeah, yeah, because.
- 23:21Speaker 3: I I remember oh so yeah, yeah, so I thought.
- 23:25Speaker 1: You were gonna say five, and I was like, oh come.
- 23:27Speaker 2: On now, I I again, I don't think that this
- 23:33Speaker 2: OKAC team has just has that, like I said, DNA
- 23:36Speaker 2: to finish it out, because if you look at like,
- 23:39Speaker 2: for example, their last series, they could have wrapped it
- 23:41Speaker 2: up versus Denver in game six and they they did it.
- 23:44Speaker 2: They got up early, but then they got whooped.
- 23:46Speaker 1: So in game four and game five Denver ran out
- 23:49Speaker 1: of gas. They could have fucking took and control of
- 23:52Speaker 1: that series too.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Oh game five they Denver had that thing. Denver was up.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Now I go into the fourth that's so now is okay?
- 23:59Speaker 2: See other old court probably the best team in the league, sure,
- 24:02Speaker 2: but they're not playing at okay see tonight. So I
- 24:04Speaker 2: really do think I think the Wolves defend the whole
- 24:07Speaker 2: court again, probably by forty two, probably not, But I
- 24:10Speaker 2: just think that like, uh yeah, and role players play
- 24:14Speaker 2: better home. I know that's a like one of those
- 24:17Speaker 2: like phrases used, but like, hey, it's not to be evident,
- 24:22Speaker 2: and you means nos is a big part of that
- 24:25Speaker 2: team that and he's got to contribute, and I think
- 24:27Speaker 2: probably played just a little bit better Homing. You have
- 24:29Speaker 2: the Hope crowd behind you. I do think they take
- 24:32Speaker 2: care of business Land. Again, I don't they will be
- 24:34Speaker 2: quite as well. But I mean again, in the first
- 24:37Speaker 2: two games you played okayc solid on in the first
- 24:40Speaker 2: half of both games are at home Minneapolis. You should
- 24:43Speaker 2: play him solid for the first half again and then
- 24:46Speaker 2: a third and fourth quarter. You have got your fans
- 24:48Speaker 2: push a little bit. But I guess the one name
- 24:52Speaker 2: that I know that, like you guys know this because
- 24:55Speaker 2: you and my other good Wolf budies is tell me
- 24:58Speaker 2: the guy that kind of is like the quiet X
- 25:00Speaker 2: fact of the team that maybe a lot of people
- 25:02Speaker 2: don't know about who are like Diaron fans is like
- 25:04Speaker 2: that Jada McDaniels, Like that dude when he when he
- 25:07Speaker 2: played I don't know, I don't have a stat, but
- 25:09Speaker 2: when he plays a good game, that team is like
- 25:12Speaker 2: probably undefeated. Like he's he's that X factor that he
- 25:17Speaker 2: probably won't ever score thirty five, you know, or like
- 25:20Speaker 2: getting his name in the papers.
- 25:21Speaker 1: I think he has this year in the playoffs or
- 25:25Speaker 1: something like that. That's about it.
- 25:26Speaker 2: But he he's the glue guy that guards the best person.
- 25:31Speaker 2: He hits quality jumpers, He had a couple of threes
- 25:33Speaker 2: to start off Game three, which was huge. Uh, He's
- 25:37Speaker 2: just one of those like sneaky, quiet killer dudes that
- 25:40Speaker 2: plays Toronto defense this year. He kind of just helps
- 25:44Speaker 2: the team flow and then hype up as much. But
- 25:48Speaker 2: if you get a solid game out of him tonight
- 25:50Speaker 2: and Oz, like you know, An's gonna do his things.
- 25:53Speaker 2: So I feel very good about them winning tonight. But yeah,
- 25:57Speaker 2: I do think it is two to two, and I
- 25:59Speaker 2: think if the I think the home courts of this
- 26:02Speaker 2: series are both really favorable. Now that doesn't help the
- 26:05Speaker 2: Wolves because they would have a whole court o brawl.
- 26:07Speaker 2: But I do think your boys sure a lot tonight.
- 26:10Speaker 2: And yeah, I just don't think now, Okay, see a
- 26:12Speaker 2: couple of years from to have the safety, this could
- 26:14Speaker 2: be a different chat, like, hey they have that DNA
- 26:16Speaker 2: now the pedigree to win a game like this on
- 26:18Speaker 2: the road, like you said, too Golden State wall to
- 26:20Speaker 2: get there too. But that's a hard, hard path to travel. Yeah,
- 26:24Speaker 2: so I think the Wolves now, I do think Vegas
- 26:27Speaker 2: is a bit crazy the fact that Wolves aren't favored tonight,
- 26:31Speaker 2: But yeah, I don't know, man, I feel very good
- 26:35Speaker 2: it's gonna be two two brothers.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Yeah. Actually, and you know recent years in the playoffs
- 26:42Speaker 1: it hasn't met as much home home team, you know,
- 26:45Speaker 1: but it does feel like in this series. That's a
- 26:47Speaker 1: good point. In Game four is in his young career,
- 26:52Speaker 1: Edwards is averaging thirty five points a game, so he realizes,
- 26:57Speaker 1: so we need one of those games out of it. Yeah,
- 27:00Speaker 1: that would be helpful. And when you look at the
- 27:03Speaker 1: first three games, falls drawn per game SGA twelve nine
- 27:07Speaker 1: and then only two last game, and you know, McDaniels
- 27:14Speaker 1: went out of his way to say, hey, you know,
- 27:16Speaker 1: I've been trying to like give him enough space to
- 27:19Speaker 1: where that tiki tac stuff can't catch up, and hopefully
- 27:26Speaker 1: I don't know, there's just sometimes where like the contact
- 27:32Speaker 1: that SGA gets that's a foul is like, all right,
- 27:37Speaker 1: didn't just call it the other way? Then that's all.
- 27:39Speaker 1: You know, It's kind of like one on one side,
- 27:43Speaker 1: it's playoff basketball, on the other side it's tick tack,
- 27:45Speaker 1: you know. So it's it's kind of weird, but you
- 27:47Speaker 1: have to adjust, even like you were saying, you do
- 27:51Speaker 1: have to adjust to it. So you can't sit there
- 27:54Speaker 1: and like you said, get it in your head and
- 27:56Speaker 1: all that, So I agree to I think that they'll win,
- 28:00Speaker 1: and if not, I could see them actually pulling off
- 28:05Speaker 1: what would be a pretty big upset in Game five
- 28:08Speaker 1: if they didn't win tonight, just because they're a pretty
- 28:11Speaker 1: damn good road team, and I think they've covered the spread.
- 28:14Speaker 1: I think they're five and one against the spread or
- 28:21Speaker 1: five and two against the spread when it came to
- 28:24Speaker 1: Oklahoma City, so this year, so I think you're I
- 28:30Speaker 1: think you're right. Obviously both of us pick the Timberwolves.
- 28:35Speaker 1: But if it's even, then it does kind of because
- 28:38Speaker 1: exactly what you said about you know, Okay, see you
- 28:41Speaker 1: could say that about the timber Wolves too. You know,
- 28:44Speaker 1: like they need to go through this shit, you know
- 28:46Speaker 1: what I mean, Like last year, you know, be up
- 28:49Speaker 1: two oh on the road and then lose three in
- 28:52Speaker 1: a row, and then they come back and have to
- 28:55Speaker 1: win two to win the you know, so some of
- 28:57Speaker 1: it just going through it. I remember when they assembled
- 29:00Speaker 1: that team of veterans in Boston with KG and Pearson Ray.
- 29:09Speaker 1: They actually took Atlanta seven games. I think they took
- 29:15Speaker 1: was it Philadelphia seven games or no, it's Cleveland seven games,
- 29:20Speaker 1: and then they beat Detroit like in six games they
- 29:24Speaker 1: were down two to one, you know, so they got
- 29:25Speaker 1: over it. They ended up winning six games the whole chip.
- 29:28Speaker 1: So yeah, well we'll see how that goes. But you know,
- 29:31Speaker 1: I'm still I'm not gonna change my predictions just because
- 29:34Speaker 1: you know, we've made our predictions. But yeah, it's looking
- 29:37Speaker 1: tougher and tougher, and it like, you gotta get it
- 29:40Speaker 1: to six one way or another. Obviously, to get to seven,
- 29:46Speaker 1: and I don't I don't necessarily seeing them win three
- 29:49Speaker 1: in a row and then have game six to close out.
- 29:51Speaker 1: That's gonna be tough. But yeah, we'll see how it goes. Obviously,
- 29:56Speaker 1: we're like forty minutes away from tip or something like that, right,
- 30:00Speaker 1: so we do have a two to one series. Thank goodness.
- 30:06Speaker 1: This has been a really fun series that we thought
- 30:08Speaker 1: it was on paper. You know, Game two is the
- 30:12Speaker 1: only game that kind of stayed within reached the whole time.
- 30:18Speaker 1: Rather if you look at Game one. In game three, uh,
- 30:22Speaker 1: you know, there was comeback. So obviously Game one, like
- 30:28Speaker 1: Brunson and Cat just delivered. They were just goot both
- 30:32Speaker 1: of them. In the third actually, I think Brunson hit
- 30:34Speaker 1: forty forty plus the Cat was in the thirties. It
- 30:38Speaker 1: looked like, man, they're really doing their thing. In fact,
- 30:41Speaker 1: it was uh one o eight to ninety four at
- 30:44Speaker 1: the six forty four mark, one fifteen to one oh
- 30:48Speaker 1: one at the four to oh six mark, and then
- 30:52Speaker 1: all of a sudden, Naysmith just started go It's like, hey, dude,
- 30:57Speaker 1: someone closeline that guy, you know, do something to that guy.
- 31:01Speaker 1: And he just kept getting open, and I get it.
- 31:04Speaker 1: A couple of times he made a nice juke or
- 31:06Speaker 1: they they got him at the end of the shot, clocker.
- 31:08Speaker 1: It wasn't just him dribbling the ball and pulling up,
- 31:11Speaker 1: but that dude, what was it five in a row
- 31:14Speaker 1: or six?
- 31:14Speaker 2: Yeah, he was.
- 31:15Speaker 1: Going nuts, dude, and it's like, oh shit, dude, like
- 31:19Speaker 1: he here it comes. And then I guess what you
- 31:23Speaker 1: could call at the time was a premature Reggie Miller.
- 31:29Speaker 1: But and and once again you made a good point
- 31:33Speaker 1: about the jokic Uh what turned out to be a
- 31:36Speaker 1: pass you know, well but he but he he there
- 31:40Speaker 1: should have been a call right there before the pass
- 31:43Speaker 1: or shot. Well, you could make an argument that Haliburton
- 31:47Speaker 1: double dribble. Yeah, it was clear. I didn't see it
- 31:51Speaker 1: live because I was so like, oh, my god, you know.
- 31:54Speaker 1: But then I went back and looked at it. Once
- 31:56Speaker 1: I saw someone pointed, I was like, yeah, he totally did,
- 32:00Speaker 1: totally did. But in that moment, it's like you're just
- 32:03Speaker 1: not paying attention to that shit, you know. And he
- 32:06Speaker 1: hits the shot, and before we hit record, we talked
- 32:10Speaker 1: about this how usually if something clanks, you're kind of like, ah,
- 32:14Speaker 1: they missed it. But the way the ball went basically
- 32:17Speaker 1: directly up, I was like, oh shit, dude. And sure
- 32:21Speaker 1: enough it goes in and you're thinking, he just and
- 32:24Speaker 1: you see him doing this and you're like, oh my god,
- 32:28Speaker 1: he just did this, Like man, it's the square Garden
- 32:30Speaker 1: was going nuts and he just shut him down. And
- 32:32Speaker 1: then all of a sudden like wha, wha what what? Wait?
- 32:34Speaker 1: Wait just the second and it was reminisences of that
- 32:38Speaker 1: Drent shot from a couple of years yep. And that
- 32:42Speaker 1: could have changed the whole damn scenario, you know, because
- 32:45Speaker 1: that was against Milwaukee. Correct, Yes, yeah, and they went
- 32:49Speaker 1: and won the chip correct, Yes, and shit, you can
- 32:53Speaker 1: even see that. You go back to that Toronto Philly,
- 32:56Speaker 1: you know, dude, the bounce bounce, bounce, boom, you know, yeah,
- 33:01Speaker 1: you could have made the argument, I peely could have
- 33:03Speaker 1: went and won the chip after that, but they gotta
- 33:06Speaker 1: go get to a conference final first. But that's later.
- 33:10Speaker 1: But dude, that ship that game one. We'll get into
- 33:12Speaker 1: game two in game three, but that, I mean, that
- 33:16Speaker 1: was fucking nuts, dude. First of all, thea's just going nuts, dude,
- 33:20Speaker 1: and then Haliburton lives up to it, gets the dude.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Even though it's premature, it was still cool and they
- 33:27Speaker 1: ended up winning anyway, but that that was wild, man.
- 33:31Speaker 2: I you know, I'm just growing to like this Spacers
- 33:34Speaker 2: team more and more. I'm happy for their sake that
- 33:38Speaker 2: they did win. And for Haliberton, he's maybe not a
- 33:42Speaker 2: fan favorite across everything's kind of a goofy dude. I
- 33:44Speaker 2: like him whatever, But if you'd have done the celebration
- 33:47Speaker 2: that he lost the.
- 33:48Speaker 1: Game, dude, you would never lived that up the backlouse.
- 33:52Speaker 2: He would have got and he even said his postgame press,
- 33:55Speaker 2: but he's like, dude, I I didn't mean to hit
- 33:56Speaker 2: that celebration. If I know it, I just hit it too,
- 33:58Speaker 2: you know, you know, because no one would. But no,
- 34:02Speaker 2: it's saying the good thing him and his boys got together. Ot.
- 34:06Speaker 2: But if you watched OT. I really do think that
- 34:08Speaker 2: both teams are pretty exhausted, but there was more consistent
- 34:13Speaker 2: offense from the Pacers part. Uh, they just they they
- 34:18Speaker 2: got on a heater, and you know, I did feel,
- 34:20Speaker 2: you know, even though they're on the road, you did
- 34:23Speaker 2: just hit that shot. So yes, he had a bit
- 34:25Speaker 2: of a premature celebration, but like you still had momentum
- 34:28Speaker 2: on your side. Oh yeah, yeah even after everyone's like
- 34:31Speaker 2: Knicks fans were probably pretty happy that, hey we got
- 34:33Speaker 2: OT still, but they never took their foot off the gas.
- 34:36Speaker 2: I think the Knicks scored the first bucket of OT
- 34:39Speaker 2: and they had like a two point lead twice, but
- 34:41Speaker 2: the Pacers ever quit playing and you really see the
- 34:44Speaker 2: next defense just get worn out, tired, and Pacers could
- 34:47Speaker 2: miss save their damn life. So that was cool to
- 34:50Speaker 2: see the Smith get on a heater. Uh. I forgot
- 34:52Speaker 2: I for for some reason that he was a Gonzaggi guy.
- 34:55Speaker 2: I didn't know. He's a bandy guy. Like I was
- 34:57Speaker 2: trying to think, where have I seen this dude? But
- 34:59Speaker 2: I don't really like his last name.
- 35:01Speaker 1: It kind of lines up with a bunch of dudes
- 35:03Speaker 1: that you know in his game too.
- 35:05Speaker 2: Actually, like oh that's for sure A Zach, I'm like no,
- 35:08Speaker 2: I'm like shit, bandy, but all right, so yeah, but
- 35:10Speaker 2: he did his part. Man, that was he put on
- 35:13Speaker 2: a put on a show. So uh, that's just good
- 35:17Speaker 2: for the sport. Now again, I will say the one
- 35:20Speaker 2: thing about Pace, so dude, you have to cut their
- 35:22Speaker 2: head off like five times because they just like that
- 35:25Speaker 2: will never tap out what they did in the playoffs.
- 35:28Speaker 2: Rights here, that team just does not stop playing basketball.
- 35:32Speaker 2: So you gotta be up about twenty with five seconds ago,
- 35:35Speaker 2: then you're probably pretty safe because that team isn't breaking
- 35:38Speaker 2: lots of records that should be broken. But just to
- 35:42Speaker 2: give him credit, you know that. Uh I watched SVP
- 35:46Speaker 2: Sports Center with Pascal. He's like, he's like, dude, we're
- 35:49Speaker 2: just selfless and we don't quit. We'll just keep playing
- 35:52Speaker 2: to the whistle. And yeah, you hear that cliche he
- 35:54Speaker 2: used a lot. But you know they don't see teams
- 35:57Speaker 2: do what the pacer have been doing to where hey,
- 35:59Speaker 2: you know, we're just gonna keep playing our game. And
- 36:01Speaker 2: if if the other team takes for off the gas, dude,
- 36:03Speaker 2: we got your ass.
- 36:04Speaker 1: Like and every person that gets on the course like
- 36:07Speaker 1: that too.
- 36:08Speaker 2: Yeah, which explains why they're doing what they're doing, why
- 36:10Speaker 2: they're in situation at three.
- 36:12Speaker 1: Yeah, they're uh, they're really deep. Man. And actually that
- 36:16Speaker 1: that that game one was the most watched Eastern Conference
- 36:20Speaker 1: game one since twenty eighteen. So that was a cool
- 36:26Speaker 1: way to to, you know, to to start that one off.
- 36:31Speaker 1: And now he has so the most game tang or
- 36:35Speaker 1: go ahead field goals, uh since nine they started keeping tracks.
- 36:39Speaker 1: It's ninety seven with five seconds left, most game tanger
- 36:43Speaker 1: go ahead, right, Lebron has eight, Reggie Miller s five.
- 36:48Speaker 1: No surprises there, right, Uh, Haliburn now has four, and
- 36:55Speaker 1: that's where Kobe what was rip? And then Chris Middleton
- 36:59Speaker 1: has three of those. And you know we've always kind
- 37:02Speaker 1: of tackled Middleton how he was a key He may
- 37:05Speaker 1: be faded now, but he's a key player, you know
- 37:08Speaker 1: in that championship running just a solid, you know, kind
- 37:11Speaker 1: of undervalued type guy. And it was ninety nine point
- 37:16Speaker 1: seven was the win probability when they were up two
- 37:20Speaker 1: fifty one by fourteen. Should we just get rid of
- 37:23Speaker 1: this win? Probably shit because it's really probably not gonna
- 37:28Speaker 1: add up to what the hell they're talking about. It's
- 37:31Speaker 1: just kind of funny like that. But you're right. Both
- 37:33Speaker 1: these teams actually, if you think about it, they're two
- 37:37Speaker 1: and two when they were being down by twenty and
- 37:41Speaker 1: the Knicks are three and two. So I mean, that's
- 37:44Speaker 1: fucking pretty impressive dude to be down by like that.
- 37:48Speaker 1: And you mentioned Pascal, and you know this is his
- 37:54Speaker 1: I think it would be now his twelfth Eastern Conference
- 37:57Speaker 1: Final game. He you know, he his average is really
- 38:01Speaker 1: good during it. But that dude went off in game
- 38:03Speaker 1: two thirty nine points. Halliburton was more of the fundamentally
- 38:09Speaker 1: sound point guard. Didn't score a lot, but it had
- 38:13Speaker 1: eleven assists. The fourth quarter, it was tied eighty one
- 38:20Speaker 1: eighty one. Indy got up ninety seven to eighty nine,
- 38:24Speaker 1: seven thirty seven, and it was one o eight ninety
- 38:26Speaker 1: nine three twenty three. The Knicks, you know, close almost
- 38:31Speaker 1: got up. They almost got there, and they needed like
- 38:33Speaker 1: one more big shot to try to tie it up
- 38:37Speaker 1: and force another overtime. The big story about that was
- 38:43Speaker 1: early in the third or no, late in the third.
- 38:46Speaker 1: Kat had some miss like just failed to pick up
- 38:53Speaker 1: his guy or switch or a couple. I think it
- 38:56Speaker 1: was at least twice on defense, and he got benched
- 38:58Speaker 1: for the fourth quarter, so Pascal really came through and
- 39:03Speaker 1: you're thinking, dude, to zip on the road again. Like
- 39:09Speaker 1: I ended up picking the next but I still have money,
- 39:12Speaker 1: you know, on that plus number, because I felt pretty
- 39:16Speaker 1: strong about a plus number. Obviously I have the you know,
- 39:19Speaker 1: the plus what was it two ninety for the Timberwolves.
- 39:23Speaker 1: I had to put that one down too, but this
- 39:25Speaker 1: was what was was it a plus one forty or
- 39:27Speaker 1: plus one sixty or one seventies for the Pacers going in?
- 39:32Speaker 2: Yeah, plus one forty?
- 39:33Speaker 1: Yeah, well plus one forty, So I think I got
- 39:35Speaker 1: the one forty and uh so then you go to
- 39:40Speaker 1: game through three, excuse me, and both Kat and Brunson
- 39:47Speaker 1: are in foul problems and somebody else was in full
- 39:49Speaker 1: problems too. They did, I guess Heart suggested that he'll
- 39:54Speaker 1: come off the bench and you can put in Robinson.
- 39:57Speaker 1: And that's something we talked about too, because although before
- 40:01Speaker 1: the series started last Monday, we talked about will they
- 40:06Speaker 1: lean into this lineup because it was a small sample size,
- 40:09Speaker 1: but it was damn good defensively, and it's still they
- 40:12Speaker 1: still could do something offensively. Now obviously missing brunts in
- 40:17Speaker 1: that that early you know, and for so much of
- 40:20Speaker 1: the time did hurt. But their two best stretches last
- 40:26Speaker 1: night in the fourth quarter and then they had like
- 40:27Speaker 1: a fourteen to oher run in Game one, I think
- 40:32Speaker 1: to extend that lead where without Brunton on the court.
- 40:35Speaker 1: So it's been kind of weird, you know. The big
- 40:37Speaker 1: talk is having and we've talked about this since the
- 40:40Speaker 1: trade Bruntson and Cat the point guard in the center,
- 40:44Speaker 1: so the front of the defense, in the back of
- 40:46Speaker 1: the defense. It's not ideal, right, And so I mean
- 40:52Speaker 1: in the second quarter, it's fifty five to thirty five.
- 40:55Speaker 1: Midway through the third seventy to fifty five. Now the
- 40:59Speaker 1: Knicks did cut it to ten, and then Kat got
- 41:04Speaker 1: in the game and he just fucking went off of
- 41:06Speaker 1: the fourth quarter, had twenty points whether he was three
- 41:09Speaker 1: or four from three, I think six of nine or something,
- 41:13Speaker 1: had a nice n one dunk, just went nuts. No Brunson.
- 41:18Speaker 1: But to be fair, Brunton did finally get in the
- 41:20Speaker 1: game because he had five falls so they weren't gonna
- 41:23Speaker 1: risk him. But finally got in and he made a
- 41:25Speaker 1: really big bucket again mister clutch. But they're twenty points
- 41:30Speaker 1: down and down, you know, fairly late in the game
- 41:34Speaker 1: and they made the rally. It's just it's crazy, but
- 41:39Speaker 1: they really needed that because we know, we were just
- 41:41Speaker 1: talking about it too last week, how tough it is
- 41:43Speaker 1: to playing Indie, how tough it is to play in
- 41:47Speaker 1: Oklahoma City some of these smaller markets. That was from
- 41:52Speaker 1: game two to Game three, kind of give your thoughts
- 41:56Speaker 1: on when went down.
- 42:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I do think that the Pacers really
- 42:03Speaker 2: they just don't care where they play, Like that team
- 42:05Speaker 2: has a pretty good DNA for a win on the road,
- 42:08Speaker 2: which that that they're different. They are, They're for sure
- 42:13Speaker 2: are different. And even you know, even last night, like
- 42:19Speaker 2: I I did expect Nicks to come out strong because
- 42:22Speaker 2: again backs against the wall, it's flipped, they're not at home.
- 42:26Speaker 2: But the Pacers also shown moments to where they've been
- 42:30Speaker 2: up in serious prior and I remember like the first
- 42:32Speaker 2: quarter that closed on Gamerson Milwaukee, they got down like
- 42:34Speaker 2: twenty three to five, and I bet the first half
- 42:36Speaker 2: when they're in the second round, they were up in
- 42:39Speaker 2: the Gamer like Okay. So they've shown moments where there
- 42:41Speaker 2: are the the leading team and they come out flat,
- 42:45Speaker 2: you know, because their mental mindset too much. Like I've
- 42:47Speaker 2: talked about the Wolves. Okay, see what if the Pacers
- 42:50Speaker 2: truly done. Yes, they have been good team, but they
- 42:53Speaker 2: would have the the DNA of the championship team yet
- 42:55Speaker 2: just because they've been there either. So you are seeing
- 42:57Speaker 2: a lot of these teams who maybe there's a good
- 43:00Speaker 2: chance next year we could have Minnesota. Okay, seeing Pacers
- 43:04Speaker 2: all back in the final four because they're learning. It
- 43:07Speaker 2: does take that whatever. Yeah, yeah, because with Golden State
- 43:11Speaker 2: they did have to lose the series to the Clippers
- 43:12Speaker 2: and the Spurs, and they worked their way up. So
- 43:14Speaker 2: it really does take a couple of years to go now,
- 43:17Speaker 2: well it seems obviously will win it this year, but
- 43:20Speaker 2: it does take that tough vulnerability to be able to
- 43:23Speaker 2: beat a team when you know they have to win
- 43:25Speaker 2: and we're getting there. So the paint Now I am
- 43:28Speaker 2: love as fris The Pacers blew it at home. Uh
- 43:31Speaker 2: but maybe for once it was a role reversal. They've
- 43:34Speaker 2: been so used to being a team that comes back
- 43:36Speaker 2: when the team takes for off the gas. They did
- 43:38Speaker 2: it kind of like not say it did on purpose. Obviously,
- 43:41Speaker 2: no team wants to lose, but you had a comfortable lead.
- 43:43Speaker 2: The next kind of flipped it on you. But farness,
- 43:46Speaker 2: the Knicks are also this this series is pretty easily matched,
- 43:49Speaker 2: like the next one of the season series two to one.
- 43:52Speaker 2: It's like the Knicks are a scrub team by the means,
- 43:55Speaker 2: but the Pacers kind of just not a heater. So
- 43:59Speaker 2: I will say, like, you know, it surprised me a
- 44:01Speaker 2: little bit, but again, Kat did this last year for
- 44:04Speaker 2: Game seven versus the Nuggets on the road. You know,
- 44:06Speaker 2: when he gets going, he's one of those really, hey,
- 44:09Speaker 2: get on my back, I'll carry y'all. And then the
- 44:11Speaker 2: nick seed to that for sure. I I that was
- 44:16Speaker 2: just at least you're right, at least they've been having
- 44:19Speaker 2: close games, uh, I mean, okay, it.
- 44:22Speaker 1: May not feel like it during the game, but they
- 44:25Speaker 1: end up close.
- 44:26Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, was pretty close.
- 44:28Speaker 1: The all time fairly fairly close.
- 44:30Speaker 2: Which hopefully we get from Wolves. Okay, I want the
- 44:33Speaker 2: Wolves wins, I but if it was close to be
- 44:34Speaker 2: a little more fun, Like there's something to be said
- 44:36Speaker 2: for having a hint a buzzer beater or like a
- 44:38Speaker 2: dag or three, Like we've not had any of those calls,
- 44:40Speaker 2: like when I went to that.
- 44:42Speaker 1: The fourth quarter or something.
- 44:43Speaker 2: You know, yeah, what I would said, Okay, see Denver,
- 44:46Speaker 2: get with my friend. Like, dude, I saw the highest
- 44:48Speaker 2: points score in the first half of an NBA playoff game,
- 44:51Speaker 2: you know, like I with the nb A playoffs, we've
- 44:53Speaker 2: been having good storylines and fun series. We've not had
- 44:56Speaker 2: any close games overall, really, you know, so.
- 45:02Speaker 1: I don't think besides a certain series, yeah, yeah, oh,
- 45:06Speaker 1: in general. I mean, the Knicks have been playing a
- 45:08Speaker 1: lot of close games, you know, but you know, you're right.
- 45:10Speaker 1: Overall it has been weird like that.
- 45:14Speaker 2: But I do think, you know, you mentioned mentioned Haliburton.
- 45:18Speaker 2: I really think that's the main reason of why the
- 45:20Speaker 2: Pacers are where they're at. Yes, Haliburton is that clutch guy.
- 45:25Speaker 2: But if you were, if you were, if you never
- 45:27Speaker 2: watched him play and you say, just give me your analysis,
- 45:29Speaker 2: you'd be like, Okay, that's just a team full of
- 45:31Speaker 2: guys that share the ball. Like no, like there's not
- 45:35Speaker 2: the ice like the I don't. The Knicks cannot game
- 45:38Speaker 2: plan like the Wolves do for SGA, or like or
- 45:41Speaker 2: like Dallas did last year for Aunt or Okay sees
- 45:44Speaker 2: that for Aunt. If you do that Taliburton, dude, dish,
- 45:47Speaker 2: dish dish. Okay, Miles hurs opposite. So I do think
- 45:51Speaker 2: the way they share the ball and everyone scores is
- 45:53Speaker 2: why there's situations are in Now. Are they as talented
- 45:56Speaker 2: as Oklahoma City or Minnesota, Probably not, But the way
- 45:59Speaker 2: the pace to share the baller book kind of just scores.
- 46:01Speaker 2: It makes them a hard team to defend. So you
- 46:03Speaker 2: can't have the the fool proof like we're gonna shut
- 46:06Speaker 2: down Halibert, we're gonna win the game.
- 46:08Speaker 1: Well, well he went through that list too. Remember it
- 46:10Speaker 1: was like eight or nine guys like nine points and up,
- 46:13Speaker 1: and a bunch of people in the teams, you know,
- 46:16Speaker 1: so you can bet over twenty, but who gives a
- 46:18Speaker 1: shit because someone's gonna go over twenty in the game,
- 46:20Speaker 1: you know.
- 46:21Speaker 2: And that's what makes it a little bit different. But hey,
- 46:23Speaker 2: yeah and there. But there's somebody said, for you need
- 46:27Speaker 2: to have the selfless players on your team to make
- 46:28Speaker 2: that because not every NBA team has superstars who are
- 46:33Speaker 2: self lists. I know that for a fact.
- 46:35Speaker 1: Yeah, that's for sure. And I I do think I
- 46:39Speaker 1: thought it was like I understand like benching Towns for
- 46:47Speaker 1: like six minutes in the fourth quarter to teach you
- 46:51Speaker 1: to say, hey, dude, we can't have you miss an assignment.
- 46:53Speaker 1: I think that's fair. I think that's totally fair. But
- 46:56Speaker 1: I did think it was a mistake not to put
- 46:58Speaker 1: them back in. Yeah, because he had twenty points to
- 47:02Speaker 1: three quarters, you know. And it's funny because last night
- 47:08Speaker 1: he could have remember when I was saying, how of
- 47:11Speaker 1: course there's sometimes where he may not be aggressive enough,
- 47:14Speaker 1: or maybe he'll settle or he'll just whatever, but missed
- 47:20Speaker 1: something on defense or whatever. He's usually pretty good in
- 47:24Speaker 1: the playoffs in the fourth quarter on defense, but overall,
- 47:27Speaker 1: you know, he's not gonna be making all defensive team.
- 47:30Speaker 1: But the foul problems are the key. Actually, I think
- 47:35Speaker 1: his biggest issue and how he has been because I've
- 47:38Speaker 1: gotten to watch him for nine straight years. So like
- 47:41Speaker 1: in this game, he could have went for thirty something easy, easy,
- 47:44Speaker 1: because he got in foul problems. He so he left early,
- 47:48Speaker 1: then came back in the second, left early, left like
- 47:52Speaker 1: five six minutes on the table when he's just getting going,
- 47:56Speaker 1: because he only had four points to three quarters, you know,
- 48:00Speaker 1: up but twenty four but he only had four points.
- 48:02Speaker 1: And then in the third, I think with like eight
- 48:04Speaker 1: something left, he picked up his fourth, you know, so
- 48:07Speaker 1: he had to miss that gap, you know, so he
- 48:10Speaker 1: could have had thirty something easy. Here's a crazy stat, right,
- 48:14Speaker 1: So when the Knicks, this is all time Nicks, right,
- 48:19Speaker 1: when the Knicks are down oh to two, they were
- 48:22Speaker 1: oh to fourteen in that game three before the last game. Huh,
- 48:27Speaker 1: that's crazy. And then on the flip side, the Pacers
- 48:31Speaker 1: when leading to and ozh we're nine to zero in
- 48:35Speaker 1: that game. So that kind of gives you a sampling there.
- 48:40Speaker 1: Now we talked about that Robinson Towns right now on
- 48:45Speaker 1: with both of them on you know, per forty eight minutes. Okay,
- 48:49Speaker 1: it's a per forty eight, so it's not exact. Yeah,
- 48:52Speaker 1: plus twelve four plus twelve point four off when both
- 48:57Speaker 1: are off, it's a minus thirty. Oh. But I did
- 49:03Speaker 1: think I like this. You know a lot of times
- 49:07Speaker 1: you have selfless stuff going on when you're some of
- 49:10Speaker 1: the last teams, right, I think all all four of
- 49:13Speaker 1: these teams, you could point to certain things and Heart's saying,
- 49:16Speaker 1: hey take me out, dude, I'll come off the bench.
- 49:18Speaker 1: I'm good. And he played like thirty four minutes anyway.
- 49:21Speaker 1: You know, he still got that big rebound at the
- 49:23Speaker 1: end and all that. But I think they left Robinson
- 49:26Speaker 1: in there too long because he was gassed at two
- 49:29Speaker 1: separate times in the game. He's like, dude, I'm not
- 49:32Speaker 1: playing a lot of minutes. All of a sudden he
- 49:33Speaker 1: got me going, you know, yeah, dude, he didn't go
- 49:36Speaker 1: full season tips. You can't do your un run them
- 49:39Speaker 1: into the ground when the guy just you know. So,
- 49:41Speaker 1: I think that I like the lineup switch, and it's
- 49:46Speaker 1: something that I said they need to lean into.
- 49:48Speaker 2: I didn't.
- 49:48Speaker 1: I didn't think they'd do the starting lineup, but I
- 49:50Speaker 1: did think they'd lean into it more because he has
- 49:54Speaker 1: been damn good. Uh. But I think they need to
- 49:57Speaker 1: let him fucking rest a little bit too, because that's
- 50:00Speaker 1: not you know, then you're gonna have a big guy
- 50:02Speaker 1: out there who can move but be tired, and that's
- 50:05Speaker 1: that's not a good look. So but so, like I
- 50:11Speaker 1: was saying, the down by twenty points in when when
- 50:15Speaker 1: you're down by twenty This this season, the Pacers are
- 50:18Speaker 1: two and two, the Knicks are three and two. The
- 50:21Speaker 1: rest of the league is three and thirty one. So
- 50:25Speaker 1: these two teams, man, they're just never out of it ever, ever, ever, ever,
- 50:31Speaker 1: So let's see, and like I said here, the Knicks
- 50:34Speaker 1: win in making it on TNT for conference finals, making
- 50:41Speaker 1: it two and one, it's the first time. It's the
- 50:44Speaker 1: first time in a while for four years that they
- 50:46Speaker 1: didn't have two three and oh's, well it was three
- 50:50Speaker 1: years that they didn't have three o's, but T and
- 50:52Speaker 1: T they're side of the conference finals. They've had four
- 50:55Speaker 1: straight of them before this. But then when you go
- 50:58Speaker 1: back pre COVID, right for t T the conference finals,
- 51:02Speaker 1: so they had three three and zero starts. They had
- 51:04Speaker 1: to delayed the COVID stuff because you know, the conference
- 51:08Speaker 1: final got delayed during COVID in twenty twenty. And then
- 51:11Speaker 1: remember they had to push the season back so that
- 51:14Speaker 1: the conference finals were like in July, you know, so
- 51:16Speaker 1: they kind of got and then they had Toronto in
- 51:19Speaker 1: one of them, which we know it happens even in hockey.
- 51:22Speaker 1: The ratings go down when you have a non American team.
- 51:25Speaker 1: It just it just happens, you know, And if it
- 51:27Speaker 1: happens in hockey, then it's gonna happen in every other sport,
- 51:30Speaker 1: you know, because they're known for it obviously. So so
- 51:34Speaker 1: what do you think here? You know, I think they
- 51:39Speaker 1: a lot of people are talking about Brunton's awesome but
- 51:42Speaker 1: he's dribbling the air out of the ball and a
- 51:46Speaker 1: lot of people are standing around, and that's something we've
- 51:48Speaker 1: seen in every round. Should they lean it? Because when
- 51:53Speaker 1: he wasn't on the floor and it's cat's game, all
- 51:56Speaker 1: of a sudden he can go off. And also Nace
- 52:01Speaker 1: miss angel ankle injury, that is because he got hurt
- 52:06Speaker 1: in that last game. Could that linger? But but what
- 52:11Speaker 1: are your thoughts here? Do you think that this was
- 52:15Speaker 1: just a flash in the pan and it's ultimately gonna
- 52:19Speaker 1: be done in game five? Because it's it's really tough
- 52:21Speaker 1: for me to see Indy obviously losing two games at home, yeah,
- 52:25Speaker 1: just because that place is ape Ship and they play
- 52:27Speaker 1: good at home. But then again, I gotta say, like
- 52:31Speaker 1: I don't see three straight losses at home for the
- 52:34Speaker 1: next either. So to me, I think this thing is
- 52:37Speaker 1: gonna push the six hopefully seven, just as a fan.
- 52:41Speaker 1: But what what are your thoughts? Or maybe you think
- 52:44Speaker 1: opposite and you say, you know what, you're ron, Chris,
- 52:47Speaker 1: Andy's gonna win all three games that they play on
- 52:50Speaker 1: the road. Are you gonna sit here and tell.
- 52:54Speaker 2: Me that if right now, like good head out? I
- 53:00Speaker 2: would say Pacers and six I do think they would
- 53:02Speaker 2: have gave four. Yeah, protect the old court a little bit,
- 53:06Speaker 2: you know, but then Pacers are wrapped up. But again,
- 53:08Speaker 2: this Pace team really doesn't care. So would it surprise me? Yes?
- 53:12Speaker 2: Would I be shocked? Who the hell how they wouldn't
- 53:16Speaker 2: give one in two like they the Guard.
- 53:18Speaker 1: You're right, I wouldn't be shocked, that is true, which
- 53:20Speaker 1: normally I would be. But they've done it now, back
- 53:22Speaker 1: to back series.
- 53:23Speaker 3: You know, the rest for the league, so like, yeah,
- 53:28Speaker 3: but I would I would say, yeah, Pacers and six
- 53:32Speaker 3: and they get Indiana Pacers and the freaking finals were
- 53:36Speaker 3: like not a complete shock, but.
- 53:38Speaker 2: There had been some probably pretty nice start of the
- 53:40Speaker 2: year tickets for the Pacers with the Eastern Conference. Damn
- 53:44Speaker 2: we missed that boat CircUse that been a pretty fat payout,
- 53:47Speaker 2: I promise see that.
- 53:49Speaker 1: Dude, when they were like under five hundred, who knows
- 53:53Speaker 1: what that number was, that shit even coming into the playoffs,
- 53:56Speaker 1: that number was crazy, you know. Yeah, I feel good
- 54:00Speaker 1: about winning these you know, two series with the Pacers
- 54:04Speaker 1: money anyway, even though I did pick the Knicks at seven,
- 54:07Speaker 1: I agree, I think it will be Indian six. I
- 54:09Speaker 1: can't change my perdition, but I do think that seems
- 54:13Speaker 1: about right. They're gonna win Game four. I think New
- 54:16Speaker 1: York will show some pride at home and then you know,
- 54:20Speaker 1: and then finish it out at home. We've been on
- 54:23Speaker 1: this twenty point comeback playoff win, right, So there's been
- 54:27Speaker 1: six so far this year in the playoffs, six of them, right,
- 54:33Speaker 1: and five obviously we know is from New York in Indiana. Yeah,
- 54:37Speaker 1: but in the last four years of playoffs combined, the
- 54:41Speaker 1: whole playoffs finals included, there was only five. So I
- 54:46Speaker 1: mean we're not even in the finals yet, which there
- 54:49Speaker 1: could you know, Usually in the finals you're not gonna
- 54:52Speaker 1: see a twenty point because they'll just call time out
- 54:55Speaker 1: the second you make a four all run up, it's
- 54:57Speaker 1: a timeout, you know. But yeah, this is uh, it's
- 55:03Speaker 1: been fun. All we need is uh this conference final
- 55:08Speaker 1: jinx the last few years is real and win both series,
- 55:14Speaker 1: just like last year, especially when they go three. Oh
- 55:18Speaker 1: that the casual fans out once they flash that stat
- 55:22Speaker 1: at the end of the game. No team is that. Okay, bye,
- 55:25Speaker 1: I'll see in a week and when you have a
- 55:27Speaker 1: week gap, it just kills it. It kills everything. So yeah, obviously,
- 55:34Speaker 1: you know i'd like it has to go at least
- 55:37Speaker 1: six for my timber hoops to win. But yeah, let's
- 55:41Speaker 1: hope we we carry this first and second round momentum
- 55:45Speaker 1: all the way into it and so that you can
- 55:47Speaker 1: really come into the finals with momentum. And then it's
- 55:49Speaker 1: only like a handful of days. Like I said, if
- 55:52Speaker 1: it were to go game seven. Uh, in the in
- 55:57Speaker 1: both series, I think because they're not skipping, they started first,
- 56:01Speaker 1: so it was on a Sunday. It was gonna be
- 56:03Speaker 1: next Sunday is game seven. Yeah, next Sunday is game
- 56:07Speaker 1: seven for this Sunday, I should say, if it were
- 56:11Speaker 1: to be, and then I assume maybe Monday. For the
- 56:14Speaker 1: other one, it have to be so the finals will
- 56:20Speaker 1: start not this Thursday, but next Thursday, you know what
- 56:23Speaker 1: I mean. So you know at the Eastern Conference goes seven, dude,
- 56:28Speaker 1: you have two days and it's like, okay, Tuesday, Wednesday, Okay,
- 56:31Speaker 1: set the finals. Half fun, go get them, you know.
- 56:34Speaker 1: So we'll see how that, uh that goes. But yeah,
- 56:38Speaker 1: it's been it's been fun, especially that that Indie Next series.
- 56:41Speaker 1: It's been interesting. Final thoughts. You can get us out
- 56:45Speaker 1: of here, sir. Uh.
- 56:47Speaker 2: Just a little side note because we do do our
- 56:50Speaker 2: college football podcast. I like what they did. They made
- 56:52Speaker 2: it to wear it out for the They made an
- 56:54Speaker 2: adjustment which we all wanted out. Will the top towll
- 56:58Speaker 2: teams that make your wall get seated if you went
- 57:00Speaker 2: your conference straight upseated top four spot in a bye
- 57:04Speaker 2: which was a great, a great addrestment. We liked what
- 57:06Speaker 2: we saw last year and how you people complained. People
- 57:09Speaker 2: are like, hey, let's make the adjustment. Cool, and we're
- 57:12Speaker 2: sorry through for next year. So that's a beautiful adjustment
- 57:15Speaker 2: made by college forball. Just that's always happened.
- 57:17Speaker 1: That's exactly what we said too. Everyone's making a big deal.
- 57:19Speaker 1: It's like, all right, cool, we agree with you, but
- 57:21Speaker 1: don't make every goddamn podcast segment about it. You know,
- 57:25Speaker 1: like we get it, we get it, but they're gonna
- 57:28Speaker 1: change the shit, you know. So that that is a
- 57:31Speaker 1: good call. That's a very good call.
- 57:33Speaker 4: Oh and then so I think next unless there's a
- 57:37Speaker 4: game seven, I think next Monday lines up perfectly because
- 57:42Speaker 4: it gives a nice runway, true, you know, to start
- 57:46Speaker 4: on Thursday.
- 57:47Speaker 1: Yeah, otherwise then we'd probably do it. I would tweak
- 57:49Speaker 1: stuff and maybe do it Tuesday. Okay, Cool, just so
- 57:53Speaker 1: the audience knows and we know. Yeah, all right, well,
- 57:56Speaker 1: I know what.
- 57:57Speaker 2: Enjoy the nice weather. It's I guys, I gotta break
- 57:59Speaker 2: up the golf club suit. The boys are out. Have
- 58:02Speaker 2: a good water piece.
