- 1:04It helps us so much. All right, let's just get into
- 1:06the stories for today. So the first story that I have
- 1:09for you guys today is a man named Kyle Cotton is facing
- 1:12immense backlash after taking the relationship story of an
- 1:16author and her husband's lived experience that he found on
- 1:19TikTok, feeding it into ChatGPT and generating a book about it
- 1:25without their consent. So a few days ago, Kyle posted a
- 1:27video saying that his girlfriend is sick of reading the same
- 1:30books. So he quote UN quote, wrote her
- 1:32some books with ChatGPT. He brought this to Tiktok
- 1:35because he was basically saying like how fast it is to write
- 1:39books using AI. And he was trying to gauge if
- 1:42people online would want him to be quote, UN quote, writing
- 1:45these books every single week. And he would put them on Kindle
- 1:49for like 2 dollars, $3. And the point is that the people
- 1:52who are invested in this, who are buying his books, know that
- 1:55they will get a new one every single week.
- 1:57I read my girlfriend a book last week and she read it.
- 1:59And she loved it. She told me I should post it for
- 2:01sale on Kindle and so I'm just curious if people would actually
- 2:05buy it. The idea behind the story was
- 2:07that she has been. My girlfriend has been tired of
- 2:10reading the same books that feel like the same romance novels
- 2:13over and over again. And so she wanted something that
- 2:15felt more real, felt more like real life, and that's what I
- 2:18tried to write. It's called the versions We
- 2:20keep. And I don't know, I probably
- 2:22posted for three or $4.00 on Kindle if if people actually
- 2:26wanted to buy it. But with AI being so easy, it's
- 2:30made me think like about writing a book a week and it would that
- 2:34be something people would be interested in?
- 2:35If I just put out a book a week for $3 on Kindle, would people
- 2:39actually buy them? So he put this out there and
- 2:41then somebody asked him the question, what type of book had
- 2:45he written? And he made this follow up video
- 2:47saying that he's actually written four books so far with
- 2:49this method. And it's in this video that he
- 2:52mentions that one of the books that he has quote UN quote
- 2:54written was inspired by a story that he got from another
- 2:57creator's TikTok. He said that he saw this idea
- 3:01that she came up with, she played it on her husband.
- 3:04And then when he brought the concept to his girlfriend, the
- 3:06girlfriend recognized that the woman that had posted this
- 3:09concept on TikTok is an author herself.
- 3:11So he says that he still quote UN quote wrote the book
- 3:13regardless. But in this case, because the
- 3:16woman is an author herself, he wrote the book.
- 3:18He sent it to her and said that he told her that she could have
- 3:21it for free but if she doesn't do anything with it then he will
- 3:24end up posting it online. Oh, I've actually written four
- 3:27books already. I'm about to start on my fifth.
- 3:29Well, I started on my 5th yesterday and that one is going
- 3:32to be smart. The third book was a book that I
- 3:36got from a another creator's TikTok.
- 3:39I saw this idea that she came up with from her husband and I
- 3:44started writing it sentence. My girlfriend was like, isn't
- 3:46this a great idea for her book? And she's like, Oh, well, that
- 3:49girl's already a writer. So I went ahead and finished the
- 3:51book, sent it to her, and I basically just said that she
- 3:55could have it for free. And if she doesn't do anything
- 3:57with it, I'll probably end up posting it online because it is
- 4:00a fantastic book and a fantastic.
- 4:02Story OK, so who is this author? Kyles book concept is based on a
- 4:06video by Annie Owens. She's a writer and the host of
- 4:09Read It Or Don't podcast. The video that he is referring
- 4:12to, like where he got this idea for his book, is a video that
- 4:16Ani posted on May 27th where she asks her husband Steve what he
- 4:20would do if he woke up tomorrow in January 2019, but he still
- 4:24had all of his old memories from the last seven years.
- 4:28Babe, if you woke up tomorrow and it was January 1st of 2019,
- 4:33but you had all of your memories still here up until 2026, what
- 4:36would you do? What was your fucking answer?
- 4:38I'd. Convince you I'm from the
- 4:39future. And no, tell them the other
- 4:41thing you said you remember. I would go down, find you, and
- 4:44then just randomly come up to you and just be like, hey, I
- 4:46know you're with a loser right now.
- 4:47Trust me, it gets better. And here's a grape Jelly rancher
- 4:50sucker. I made these just for you.
- 4:51Those are her favorite. And I would just keep randomly
- 4:54showing up and just doing things that she absolutely loves, not
- 4:57introducing myself, and then just like disappearing.
- 5:00A commenter wrote I would read the fuck out of the book.
- 5:02So Kyle took that comment seriously and when he saw it, he
- 5:05fed the concept into ChatGPT and that's the romance book that he
- 5:09quote UN quote wrote and sent to ANI when his girlfriend
- 5:12basically said like she's a writer herself, maybe she wants
- 5:15to write that book herself. 2 days ago Kyle posted a video
- 5:18saying that he sent the video to ANI 10 days ago and there has
- 5:22been no communication so he thinks he will post it.
- 5:26And then this is when ANI got involved because she saw this
- 5:28video obviously and then she responded in the comments she
- 5:32wrote. Hey so I actually did see your
- 5:33e-mail and while I can appreciate the thought of
- 5:35wanting to write a story based on what my husband said, I don't
- 5:38love the idea of it being made with AII.
- 5:40Think part of what makes writing so dynamic and consuming is that
- 5:43a human sat down and gave life to a story, and I don't feel
- 5:46like ChatGPT is something that can do that.
- 5:50And then Kyle responded to this. I think you should give it a
- 5:53read and see if you change your mind.
- 5:54I get where you're coming from, but I think the beauty of AI is
- 5:57that it can put things into words faster than you can.
- 6:00I still narrated the storyline, told it where I wanted it to go
- 6:04and what I wanted to happen. I think if you read even the
- 6:07first two chapters, you would still feel the human emotion of
- 6:10it. Can you guys hear Pumpkin
- 6:12coughing below me? AI just makes it easier to get
- 6:16words on the page. Maybe if you're not a writer,
- 6:19like maybe if you're not an author.
- 6:21And I'm not saying like as somebody who actually is a
- 6:23writer and was a writer for most of my career before like
- 6:25basically becoming a full time podcaster.
- 6:27Like yes, the writing process can be grueling and it can be a
- 6:32tough slog to get to the point where you are then in like flow
- 6:35state. But if you are genuinely a
- 6:38writer, part of it is that you love writing.
- 6:40So you actually enjoy that process and you're like, looking
- 6:43forward to getting to the flow state and putting all of your
- 6:46words and emotions and thoughts and feelings out on the page.
- 6:50Like, nothing is more satisfying than crafting like the perfect
- 6:54paragraph that encapsulates like everything you wanted to say.
- 6:57And the sentence structure is so good.
- 7:01And you read it back and you're like, holy shit, that just hits.
- 7:03Like nothing gives you a high like that.
- 7:06OK, so then Ani started making her own videos about the
- 7:09situation. To be clear, you didn't write
- 7:11the book. You did not write the book.
- 7:14Be honest about the books that you've written.
- 7:16Be honest that you took an idea that you saw on TikTok about me
- 7:21and my husband's actual relationship in marriage and you
- 7:24put it into ChatGPT and you had ChatGPT write the book.
- 7:27Be honest. Truly.
- 7:28I guess I can appreciate the sentiment of like, let me use
- 7:31it, make money off it, sell it, whatever, because he says that
- 7:33next that that's not the point of a book.
- 7:35The point of a book is not I'm going to write this thing.
- 7:38Yes, obviously authors have the intention.
- 7:40They want to make fucking money. It's it's that's their job.
- 7:43But also like the point of having that story based off
- 7:46something that my husband said to me, based off our
- 7:49relationship, how we met, how we got to where we are and being
- 7:53married now. Like the point of it is to
- 7:55actually write it, to put all the love that I've experienced
- 7:58for five years and the laughter and the crazy, what the fuck?
- 8:00And the crazy shit he said is for me to be able to go through
- 8:04and put up, put that in the book, not have a stranger write
- 8:07the story for us. But you didn't even write it.
- 8:09ChatGPT wrote it. As on these videos gain
- 8:12traction, Kyle started getting a lot of backlash, rightfully so,
- 8:15and he started doubling down on the ChatGPT of it all, claiming
- 8:19that he believes that speed is essentially like more important
- 8:24than the author's original work, which I guess he did kind of say
- 8:27in this first comment. Anyways, so he says he believes
- 8:30that people would prefer someone to basically like churn out a
- 8:33book a day with AI, then have to wait a year or so for an author
- 8:37to write an original book. If JK Rowling could only write,
- 8:42let's just say hypothetically, one book per year with her hand,
- 8:45that's all she could do. That's the fastest she could do
- 8:48it. But she could come up with 10
- 8:50ideas for a book a year, right? Which would be better?
- 8:53Would it be better for her to handwrite and edit one book a
- 8:58year? Or would it be better for her to
- 9:02tell ChatGPT the ideas that she has, have ChatGPT write it, and
- 9:07then go back and edit it into her own wording?
- 9:11Would you rather not have 10 JK Rowling books over 1 JK Rowling
- 9:16book? This mindset is just true, like
- 9:19brain rotted manosphere tech bro final boss levels of delusion.
- 9:25Like when will these people eventually admit that nobody
- 9:29wants to consume AI generated art?
- 9:32Generative AI empowers people who like so desperately want to
- 9:36feel accomplished and special and successful.
- 9:39It makes them feel like gods like it makes them feel like
- 9:42they can skip the line to a finished, polished product.
- 9:46Because anybody who has ever created anything from scratch in
- 9:49like the creative field at all knows that the pursuit of that,
- 9:53like the process, the pursuit of that creation, that can take
- 9:57years and years of trial and error to hone your craft and to
- 10:01create something that you're happy with and also something
- 10:04that people will buy, right? That people will be happy to
- 10:07consume themselves as well and support and purchase.
- 10:10And we can tell when you have tried to skip that process.
- 10:13And it's the process that makes art meaningful and worthwhile
- 10:16for everyone involved. The fact that his brain goes to,
- 10:19well, I could just produce more. It's like the most toxic hustle
- 10:24bro mindset I have ever heard. OK, so where we're at now?
- 10:28After Ani was basically fighting for her life on TikTok against
- 10:32Kyle and generative AI supporters, her husband Steve
- 10:35made a video. To the guy who stole my wife's
- 10:38book idea, then had ChatGPT write it and then double down
- 10:42and claim he's a real author while shitting on her and her
- 10:45friends. Could you stop pissing off my
- 10:47wife this early in the morning? I'm really just trying to enjoy
- 10:50my cup of coffee. Surprise, surprise you guys.
- 10:52Every woman who listens to this podcast will know how this ends
- 10:56because once a man stepped in and asked asked Kyle to listen
- 11:00to his wife and to stop. Guess what Kyle did?
- 11:04He listened and he stopped and he didn't fight back.
- 11:07I want to genuinely apologize to you and your wife.
- 11:10I realized that I posted all four of those videos yesterday
- 11:14before I gave them time for people to be able to respond to
- 11:18me. And since people have responded
- 11:20clearly I have upset a lot of people and that was never my
- 11:23intention. I was going to post the e-mail I
- 11:25sent your wife to try and defend myself, but I then I thought if
- 11:28I did that my my apology wouldn't be genuine.
- 11:32I think your wife and your story that you came up with is a great
- 11:35idea. I think it's going to be a
- 11:37fantastic book and when your wife writes it, I will be first
- 11:41in line to buy it and give it to my girlfriend and I genuinely
- 11:43apologize. This is like the universal
- 11:46female experience. Like men, like Kyle, they do not
- 11:48take women seriously. They only take women seriously
- 11:51when another man that they respect is standing up to them
- 11:56and telling them to take women seriously.
- 11:58And that is why it is so important for men to call out
- 12:02their Bros for being like, misogynistic, even when it
- 12:05doesn't seem like such a big deal.
- 12:06You know, I'm sure he actually doesn't feel like that.
- 12:08I'm sure that it's not actually gonna escalate.
- 12:10It always escalates when men's misogyny goes unchecked for so
- 12:14long. Even those little things, we end
- 12:17up breeding this Society of men who don't listen to women.
- 12:21They don't see women as people. They don't think that women have
- 12:24brains in their heads. They don't respect them.
- 12:27And I don't think I need to explain where things then go
- 12:29from there. On one hand, am I happy that
- 12:31Kyle is no longer going to sell this ChatGPT book?
- 12:34Yes. On the other hand, do I think
- 12:36that this is going to continue to be a bigger problem moving
- 12:40forward where people become quite OK with the idea that
- 12:45people are, you know, using generative AI to like fully
- 12:49write this book? You know, I think there's a
- 12:51difference between maybe putting a transcript through, I don't
- 12:54know, some type of like AI, like Grammarly or something, and
- 12:58getting it to check your grammar, check your spelling,
- 12:59like whatever. Like all of that stuff.
- 13:01I understand. Like AI is just part of like
- 13:03workflow at this point for a lot of companies and a lot of
- 13:06people. But you know, being so bold as
- 13:09to say like, yeah, I put this idea into Chachi BT and it wrote
- 13:11me a book and like, do you want to buy it?
- 13:13I fear we're actually going to get to a place where that
- 13:16becomes more common. All right, the next story that I
- 13:18have for you guys today is we have some more Hawk Girl
- 13:21trademark drama. So this time we're not talking
- 13:25about Hawk Girls Read, we're talking about Hawk Girls Walk.
- 13:28OK, so as we know, since the Hawk Girls Read trademark
- 13:32situation, which I did cover twice.
- 13:33So I'm not going to recap it here because that will be very
- 13:35boring for all of you guys that have have been here for those
- 13:38episodes. But if you guys do you want to
- 13:40hear more about that, you can just search in the podcast and
- 13:42find those two episodes about it.
- 13:43But since then, the situation of course with trade marking common
- 13:47phrases has been front and center this past month.
- 13:50So now there's been this renewed discussion about a creator named
- 13:54Mia Linde who trademarked the term Hot Girls Walk.
- 13:57I believe it was back in 2021. That date might be slightly
- 14:00wrong, but either way, she trademarked it in the past few
- 14:02years. So three days ago, a fitness
- 14:03creator named Deanie posted a video sharing that she was
- 14:06promoting this hot girl walk event in her local area for, you
- 14:10know, her community to come and to go on a hot girl walk all
- 14:13together. And she didn't know the term was
- 14:15trademarked. So she received basically a
- 14:17cease and desist from the platform that she was using to
- 14:21promote the event. Legally I'm not supposed to say
- 14:24this is the hot girl walk. I don't know if you know this,
- 14:26but Hot Girl Walk is trademarked so you're not allowed to use it.
- 14:28I personally didn't know that so when I wanted to host the Hot
- 14:30Girl walk event they told me to take it down immediately.
- 14:32So instead this is a high temperature woman walk which got
- 14:35the message across and in my opinion was a lot better.
- 14:37This was a free community walk with girls in the DMV area.
- 14:40It was such a beautiful day for a walk and after we got to
- 14:42socialize, eat, drink and get refreshments from Alpa Foods.
- 14:45We're so excited to host the next one, so make sure you
- 14:48follow us for upcoming dates. The platform had been sent this
- 14:51cease and desist I believe to take the promo down.
- 14:53So she actually put this on screen.
- 14:55Let me read a section of it from you.
- 14:57So it says, hey Deanie, hope all is well.
- 14:59We've received a copyright infringement report related to
- 15:03your event. Get your hot girl walk in The
- 15:05report specifically states Hot Girl Walk LLC owns multiple
- 15:08registered trademarks in the United States, including
- 15:11trademarks and lists of trademarks for class 41, which
- 15:14prohibits others from hosting a Hot Girl walk event.
- 15:17Hot Girl Walk LLC is requesting that the event be removed from
- 15:20your site. We want to give you the
- 15:21opportunity to remove or change the event details.
- 15:24Please take a moment to resolve this within 24 hours.
- 15:26Given we were all very heightened around the hot girl
- 15:29trademark stuff right now, her video went quite viral.
- 15:32I imagine that is why it went quite viral at least.
- 15:35And Mia who has trademarked the term actually commented on it so
- 15:40she wrote. This is so shady for no reason
- 15:42lol. I actually coined the phrase
- 15:44Hawk Girl Walk and filed A trademark shortly after posting
- 15:47my first video. And I host events all around the
- 15:49world for free for women. Rather than reaching out to us
- 15:52to maybe collab or do research before infringing on my brand,
- 15:55you post this video which is not in fact giving women supporting
- 15:58women. I mean, I just think it is true
- 16:01that she didn't know that Demi didn't know that Hawk Girl Walk
- 16:04was trademarked. OK, so she responded to this
- 16:07comment with a video and here's what she said.
- 16:09So this is Mia, the woman who trademarked and copyrighted Hawk
- 16:12Girl Walk. And I don't know at what point
- 16:15my video seemed kind of shady. Maybe it was in the beginning
- 16:18where I said that legally I'm not supposed to call it a Hawk
- 16:21Girl Walk, which is true. I'm not because you would come
- 16:24for me and all the girls that were there because I started off
- 16:28as hot girl walk. All the girls that came there
- 16:30knew it was a hot girl walk to begin with, so I wasn't going to
- 16:33continue saying this was a hot girl walk.
- 16:35I had to let them know that I'm changing the name and I can't
- 16:38use it anymore. The other shady thing I would
- 16:40probably think in the video was that I said that the name was
- 16:43better. I mean, if I think the name that
- 16:46I choose is better, that's a personal opinion.
- 16:49I don't think it was shady at all.
- 16:50Like I said, this video was not coming for you at all.
- 16:55It was just a video that straight went to hey, I can't
- 16:57use this so I'm turning it into something else.
- 16:59If it's shade, if it came off as shade, I apologize because
- 17:03that's not what I intended to. Like, are you in your right to
- 17:07legally copyright, trademark, whatever you want as long as
- 17:10it's available and you can? Yeah, I'm not saying you
- 17:13shouldn't, but 2 two things can be true at the same time.
- 17:15If you can do that, I have every right to also express my
- 17:18frustration and express that like, hey, like I personally
- 17:22don't think it should be trademarket, but you know, it is
- 17:25what it is. I would never bring up race when
- 17:27it comes to this matter. I just think it's so funny how
- 17:29everyone's talking about this, but then like I like it kind of
- 17:31does matter because if you're going to think of a hawk girl
- 17:34anything, it should be making the stallion.
- 17:36I think if anyone originated and coined it, used their creative
- 17:40take on it to come up with this concept, it is making the
- 17:42stallion who is a black woman. And if you're going to trademark
- 17:45or capitalize off hawk or anything, she should get her
- 17:48flowers, she should get her credit.
- 17:50And so the woman who trademarked Hawk Girl Walk is a white woman.
- 17:54And also in a the previous drama, the woman who trademark
- 17:58Hoggle reads a similar situation was also a white woman.
- 18:00So I think it does come into play here.
- 18:02So lots of people are showing support for Dini in the
- 18:04comments, including creator Lowey who wrote Oh brother lol
- 18:08girl you were not shady. Do not let this girl make you
- 18:10feel bad. And also Whitney Simmons who is,
- 18:13you know, a huge fitness influencer.
- 18:15She commented saying she sent me a cease and desist last year
- 18:19crying emojis. I think it's one thing to
- 18:21trademark a phrase, whether you think that's right or wrong,
- 18:25regardless, trade marking a phrase, you're the first one
- 18:28that's done it. You've jumped on it.
- 18:29OK, sure. And if you want to enforce that,
- 18:31obviously you have the right to enforce that.
- 18:33But then to comment on her video and be like, this is shady.
- 18:36You could have reached out to us, you know, instead of
- 18:38infringing on my trademark like that was just like kind of a
- 18:43stretch of an assumption, I think.
- 18:45All right. And the last story that I have
- 18:46for you guys today is I have a Shoshi update.
- 18:49OK, so on June 8th, I covered the situation where TikTok
- 18:52creator Shoshi, she launched this course and a user signed
- 18:58up. Like one of her followers signed
- 19:00up. She was the only person that
- 19:01signed up for the course and she was basically documenting the
- 19:04experience of being inside of Shoshi's course.
- 19:06And you know, the result was that Shoshi was charging, I
- 19:09think it was, it was €97.00. And I think we ended up finding
- 19:12out it was per month and she was basically getting like a handful
- 19:15of voice notes, nothing super concrete in terms of like
- 19:19coursework. And it ended up being a whole
- 19:21mess. It was a very long story.
- 19:23So go back and listen to that episode if you guys want a full
- 19:26recap. But yeah, it definitely blew up
- 19:28for Shoshi in terms of like a bit of a controversy for her.
- 19:32And now she has returned to TikTok and said that she is
- 19:36going to be taking a break from that side of her business.
- 19:40So she wrote on TikTok. Quick update, I've cancelled
- 19:44Podia which is like the I think it was like the voice note
- 19:46platform that she was using for her course and her new standard.
- 19:50So her new standard was the course.
- 19:51I've cancelled the subscription tier for my podcast.
- 19:54I will still be posting podcast episodes, just only the free
- 19:58ones. I actually think this will be
- 19:59more motivating focusing on the episodes I know have listeners.
- 20:02If you're the one person who was still subscribed, don't worry,
- 20:05your subscription will cancel automatically and if you want to
- 20:09message me, I can create a final subscriber episode just for you.
- 20:12So she also had only 1 subscriber.
- 20:13Hyperchar paid Patreon. I really like that she's so
- 20:17honest about this. Like, I know she gets made fun
- 20:18of a lot and people kind of see her as like a meme, like a
- 20:21troll. Like she is definitely camp.
- 20:24Like if she is like so campy and so iconic in some ways and so
- 20:29unhinged and delusional in other ways.
- 20:31But like, you know, you got to appreciate her honesty.
- 20:35She continues. The book is happening.
- 20:36I've signed the contract and I've started writing.
- 20:39I'm choosing to double down on what's already working, run with
- 20:42opportunities that I'm receiving rather than anything that feels
- 20:45forced and do what I love and what is also bringing joy to my
- 20:48life. I will also be going back to
- 20:50YouTube. It will be more lifestyle, slow,
- 20:53spiritual, not all fashion. Basically everything's centered
- 20:56around elevating your life and making it better.
- 20:58Oh my God, when we, we did make a video like a TikTok about this
- 21:02Shoshi situation on the new mini scroll TikTok account and there
- 21:06were so many comments. It went like a little bit viral.
- 21:08Well, for a new account, it went like viral and there were so
- 21:12many comments about how she always says elevated.
- 21:14I guess she's always like, this is so elevated.
- 21:16This is going to really elevate your look.
- 21:17I also want to record new experiences and adventures
- 21:20there. It will be a place for deeper
- 21:22content more aligned with who I really AM.
- 21:24I think that's it over and out. You know, I think that this is
- 21:27the right move. I think it double down on the
- 21:29free content girl and then when you have more of a culty
- 21:32following of people that are following you, whether they're
- 21:35following you because they think that you're like camp and fun or
- 21:39because they genuinely are interested in like what you have
- 21:42to say. Regardless, I think building
- 21:44that culty following that just goes beyond like people like
- 21:47almost goes beyond like voyeurism.
- 21:48Like I think that's what's happened to a lot of like the
- 21:51early Tik Tokers, which I know she was, because early TikTok
- 21:54really rewarded like larger than life personalities, like really
- 21:57quirky personalities. And I think it's an easy trap to
- 22:01fall into where these people end up becoming more like meme
- 22:04follows than, you know, people following them for like the
- 22:07culti vibes. So you know what, she's doing
- 22:09the right thing, doubling down on the free content and maybe
- 22:13building up that like cult to your fan base through the
- 22:16different channels that she's releasing where people can
- 22:19become more parasocial with her, I guess.
- 22:21Anyways, guys, that's it for Mini scroll today.
- 22:23Thank you so much for listening. I love you guys.
- 22:25Please rate review and subscribe.
- 22:26It helps us so much. It helps us grow.

- 22:32mental health week off Hopefully I can actually rest and relax
- 22:35and be Zen, but I will talk to you the week after that.
