- 0:00What's going on, folks? And what's going on, my legendary people?
- 0:05My name is David Wu, and I'm your host of The Legit, The Legendary Podcast.
- 0:12You know, I'm going to stutter a little bit today in this episode.
- 0:15I'm not even going to say stutter. Maybe I'm going to make a couple of mistakes,
- 0:18because we have an episode that we are going to be talking about,
- 0:23none other than something that I've enjoyed.
- 0:25That how can i say to you i got
- 0:28stories and if one thing that i got story
- 0:31is my love of ice cold
- 0:34beer beer here and it's beers beers beers
- 0:37and you know but now i i want to kind of more specific because you know my my
- 0:44beer expertise i've drank over 500 different type of beers right now i'm having
- 0:49a nice little pumpkin ale beer elysian night out wait oh Oh,
- 0:54oh, punk and L, you know what I mean?
- 0:57We'll be having a nice, cold, cold, nice, cold beer.
- 1:01And I want people out there, hey, listen, if you're not a beer fan,
- 1:04by all means, you know, listen to my podcast.
- 1:07A lot of times that people who all listen to my podcast, people around the world,
- 1:12people do, hey, we have enjoyed that beer.
- 1:15You know, beer is kind of like relationships where, hey, you remember that first
- 1:19time that, you know, had that nice cold beer? Was it a stadium? A bar?
- 1:23Sneaking from your parents when you was young? High school?
- 1:27Where? You know? Talk to me. You got to hit that like, comment, all that good stuff.
- 1:33And because we have a beer and I love beer and I tasted over 500 beers,
- 1:37I said to myself, maybe I'll do a little show one more specifically.
- 1:41For my ghetto people out there in the hood, especially, you know,
- 1:46growing up in the buggy down bronze, let's go. we're talking about more of.
- 1:52See, I tell you, I'm going to get a little bit of, how can I say,
- 1:55tongue twister because I am drinking a beer. But we're going to be talking about malt liquor.
- 1:59And malt liquor, basically, my 40s, my douche douche, which the 22 ounce.
- 2:04It's those beers that are cheap then, but they come in abundance. But you know what?
- 2:08When the money was not right, when we was on a budget, those Saturdays, Sundays.
- 2:14You know, back then, my football Sundays, when I was a young man,
- 2:18you know what? And all I needed was one piece of chicken and three more more liquor, 40 ounce.
- 2:26And that's all, you know, and because of the more liquor, the 40 ounce,
- 2:30we're going to be talking about more liquor and just, you know,
- 2:33give a list of beers that I drank.
- 2:35If you are listening to somewhere, not New York City, that you might not say
- 2:41some of the beers that I've got to mention, if you have a more liquor,
- 2:45just hit that comment section and talk about.
- 2:47Ooh, all that beer Want for the homies Hey, don't drop that drop Just a little
- 2:52bit of sun on the floor And that's it Let's call it a night But let's get on with the show Once again,
- 2:58Hit the like Comment Feel free to share I'm all over I'm the YouTube I'm on Tegu's TV.
- 3:05Once again, Tegu's TV My people's out there That's where I'm at Independent
- 3:09little network going on And I'm pretty sure that I'm gonna A lot of them are gonna appreciate Oh,
- 3:14look at this This is my boy deconstructed top
- 3:17podcast talking about beers now i want to drink a
- 3:19beer now i want to drink a malt liquor but now we got a little episode of
- 3:22malt liquor once again if you ever in
- 3:25new york city gone down to a bodega money's
- 3:29tight go to the beer section you might want
- 3:32to do coronas you might want to do modelo my thing i
- 3:34prefer modelo but when the money is
- 3:37tight you do no more other than malt
- 3:40liquor and one of the malt liquors that we got there and one
- 3:44of the more underrated beers if it's
- 3:47cold is coat 45 and going up in the 80s i remember there was a billy d williams
- 3:53the beautiful billy d williams beautiful black brother actor and he was smooth
- 3:59and smooth and who else to get you to drink something that's gonna be like,
- 4:05then i'm not gonna go on coat 45 because again it for me coat 45 the double
- 4:10malt liquor for those out there they already know you got that coat 45 you can't
- 4:14miss it because you have billy d williams undercover you already know you had
- 4:18to drink that and uh and if you keep it cold.
- 4:22It's very underrated and, you know, underrated.
- 4:26And it's 5.6. And I think that if you do, and, you know, when I was doing a
- 4:30little research on this, because I basically wanted to kind of see what people think.
- 4:34Because remember, even though liquor, for some reason, people think that's like
- 4:40a black culture kind of poverty. It is.
- 4:44You know, Puerto Ricans drank it. You know, when you're young, money is tight.
- 4:49When you're in college, you know, for those in that, You know, that applies then.
- 4:54Basically, malt liquor was that thing. Again, when you're on your late teens,
- 4:58early 20s, malt liquor, if you enjoy drinking, was that thing.
- 5:04And I remember me growing up, right?
- 5:07Let's say, I'm trying to think, early 2000s.
- 5:11I kid you not, for one, for two people, I kid you not, I'm going to be straight
- 5:15up. And, you know, shout out to my brother-in-arms. You already know who he is.
- 5:19We spend a lot of time drinking malt liquor, that's for sure.
- 5:23I'm a little bit older than him, and I, you know, for the most part,
- 5:26I always had a head start on him in regards to certain things.
- 5:30And, you know, for $20, I can't tell you, now, we could buy food,
- 5:34and we could buy drinks, and we could buy whatever in between.
- 5:37Hey, listen, a pack of cigarettes, whatever.
- 5:39So, Cope 45 would have been one of those that's there.
- 5:43There's one that's called Country Club, Martin Laker. Country Club has the white letters.
- 5:48I might have come across, now, keep in mind this, with Martin Laker.
- 5:52They mostly come in these What they call 40 ounce Now if you grab what is a
- 5:5640 ounce You're basically You're looking at about half a six pack Right Because
- 6:01for the most part a six pack Each bottle is 12 ounces,
- 6:04So yeah You're looking at about Three and a half Right So if you buy two.
- 6:12Forties Obviously With two people You know you're going to do Definitely going
- 6:18to be more than A six pack But you do three You know Hey We're going crazy.
- 6:24We're going bananas. But country malt liquor is one of those ones that,
- 6:28you know, again, I might have tasted.
- 6:30And if it did, once again, in terms of malt liquor, even though malt liquor
- 6:36was a cheap thing, because me growing up, I remember one of the ones that I
- 6:41drank, obviously, Sanites with the I,
- 6:44Snoop Dogg, you know, commercials and all. I remember that 40 ounce was $1.89.
- 6:48Now, in the context of why people gravitated, keep in mind is this.
- 6:53Even at that time, if I grab a six pack of, let's say, Budweiser,
- 6:57it would have been like about five or six dollars, right?
- 7:00For six Budweiser cans or bottles, 12 ounce.
- 7:06So for $6, if you could buy three, again, three, 40-ounce, you're drinking just
- 7:12about more than a six-pack, obviously.
- 7:15So that's where why more liquor became a thing for those people in the hood,
- 7:19especially those people that didn't have the means.
- 7:22Because you get a bang for your buck, you know what I mean? Hey,
- 7:25listen, you want to hurt your liver.
- 7:26It don't matter whether you're drinking more liquor, but why is there something
- 7:30more fancy or something more crafty?
- 7:32Like Sam Adams, I got a couple of dollars to spend.
- 7:35I got too many but hey listen that's the
- 7:37one you got a hurricane high gravity
- 7:41i might have drank a hurricane this one is a
- 7:4325 ounce but why is called high gravity because it's eight percent alcohol now
- 7:49keep in mind is this because i'm a you know a beer connoisseur and i've tasted
- 7:55over 500 different beers for
- 7:57some reason sometimes i like to aim at those high bottom alcohol you know
- 8:026.5 and so on and for me i always thought that for the most part 40s were 5
- 8:08percent 5.5 but once in a while you know they was thinking the eight eight percent
- 8:14and that's why sometimes you might see.
- 8:17In the hood you might see people that you might think that they were crackheads
- 8:21but yet there was only drinking 40s then that's the answer to that there's eight
- 8:25percent nine percent 40s you know what I mean?
- 8:28But me, that was not my thing. My thing is I'm just going to go for what I know.
- 8:33And again, St. Isaac's and Core 45 is probably my main too.
- 8:38O-E was another one. O-E, English, 800. Let's go.
- 8:44Again, O-English had different ones where 5.9% alcohol. I can see why.
- 8:52Because you got to keep in mind,
- 8:53these are 40 ounces. You're drinking that volume. It's like a little keg.
- 8:57Like, you know what I mean? To 7.5. That's O-E.
- 9:02So I take it at, you know, the O-E, 800.
- 9:05You know what I mean? Oh, my. that's another one now
- 9:08oh english is it's weird because i
- 9:13get more consistent with call 45 you know hit the like
- 9:16button comment if you uh hit me
- 9:18with a little way man with that situation because oe
- 9:21is old school but oe was a
- 9:24little bit inconsistent and sometimes i like to say
- 9:27that it's more inconsistent on the
- 9:30but they're going to how they fridge and how they stock
- 9:33these things you know what i mean cold 45 was more
- 9:35of the consistent more of the better tasting beer out
- 9:38of all of them but oe hey listen it had
- 9:42his thing it has something going on now i'll remember
- 9:45with oe is that they had a 64
- 9:48ounce with a handle and it was three
- 9:51dollars and uh 25 cents and there
- 9:54was three people drinking you know with little cups and i kitchen
- 9:57at i was twisted and i don't even thing that we that's another thing too with
- 10:01these uh oes or more liquor see you're not you're not gonna get that with alcohol
- 10:06if if you decide to like don't want to drink anymore and you throw it away you're
- 10:10not gonna feel guilty you know what i mean you see even if you buy cheap liquor,
- 10:15and you throw away you know like let's say a bottle of georgia if you throw
- 10:18out i don't want to drink anymore you know georgia's disgusting but hey you
- 10:23know you're gonna feel a little uh Ah, damn it, man.
- 10:26You know what? I should not have done that. But you know what?
- 10:29I'd be straight up with more liquor.
- 10:31If you leave half of the bottle...
- 10:34You ain't mad at it yourself, man, because you're going to wake up the next
- 10:37day like, geez, what the hell happened?
- 10:39If I kept on drinking that other half, I would have been, cool one. You know what I mean?
- 10:44You got still reserve, 2-1-1, high gravity. You got two still reserve.
- 10:49Shout out to a couple of my peoples out there. I come to the Andrew Herrera
- 10:53show. He does the still reserve.
- 10:55I didn't grow up with that one, but there's those ones that have like the 5% and 8%.
- 11:01So high gravity, still reserve by all means. I've drank it before.
- 11:05Again, not used to the flavor. So it's one of those things. I don't see myself drinking it again.
- 11:11Maybe one day I'll do a show, another beer show, more liquor on video.
- 11:15And maybe I'll do that thing.
- 11:17But not be in my list.
- 11:20Mickey's. I remember Mickey's Mort Liquor growing up when I was little.
- 11:25People that I was surrounded with would be drinking this. When I grew up, I didn't drink it.
- 11:30So I guess it's one of those things that, you know, either Mickey's or something
- 11:37like that, because, yeah, because I think that's the one that had something under the cap.
- 11:43So that's why people remember that it had these puzzles under the cap.
- 11:47You know what I mean? This is back then, back in the 80s when there's no internet.
- 11:50You don't know the answer.
- 11:51I don't think there was a way to know the answer. I don't know. King Corbett.
- 11:57King Corbett. I don't know. So I taste the King Carbara. Now,
- 12:01again, I'm going to go and say is this.
- 12:03Even though more liquor is cheap, there's some of them that were like,
- 12:07like, example, I remember the San Ice going back was like $1.89.
- 12:12Then the Coke 45 was like $2.25, $2.50.
- 12:17So now dollars and cents here. If you're growing up in the hood,
- 12:22you're very limited to what you got. It doesn't matter if it's $0.10, $0.20, $0.30.
- 12:27If you don't got them, you don't got them. What can you do?
- 12:30So you'll be so into like the Sainteids and a King Cobra now King Cobra again.
- 12:37One of those things is six percent alcohol i don't know now
- 12:41a lot of uh those people were into her
- 12:43we call the uh crackheads a lot of them they drank king cobra you know and even
- 12:48again even if i i again i i seen what i seen but even those that might look
- 12:54like hey listen they probably taking drugs sometimes what it is that they drinking
- 12:58these king cobras all day by the time it's nighttime,
- 13:02you'll be like, oh my God, what the hell is going on?
- 13:06But once again, King Cobra is that beer. And again, I don't see that I would buy that.
- 13:12Maybe again, I'll do another beer episode and video where I'll be tasting these
- 13:17different old school beers, but hey, and just a heads up, drink responsible,
- 13:22and listen to this responsible.
- 13:25I'm not telling you to go out there and drink, but hey, do your thing.
- 13:27You know what I mean? Motion Triple X.
- 13:31Even Molson Again Molson to Braxton That means that There's more,
- 13:36Liquor The precedence of liquor So I'm like You know what I'm good You know
- 13:41But again I didn't grow up with Molson I knew people that drank Molson And I'm
- 13:46not that type of person That drank Molson,
- 13:50Natty daddy It's one of those things I don't remember,
- 13:53Being there I think it's again If you go to the store There's
- 13:56always the same colt 45 oe and
- 14:00santa ice and i think that the the colt
- 14:0345 was more on the top shelf versus you
- 14:06know the santa ice that's why maybe it tastes a little bit but the
- 14:09natty uh natty daddies i don't know they were high in alcohol
- 14:12once again that's why they were cheaper than
- 14:16some other how can i say more liquor and actually
- 14:19came in like a little bigger cans like 25 26 ounce that's another thing too
- 14:24that people gravitated to that like instead of buying a 40 ounce if I could
- 14:29buy 225 which equals to 50 ounce at a lesser price guess what I'm gonna do do
- 14:34the math you know what I mean ha ha nanny daddy,
- 14:37there's another one I've heard about this one it's called Red Horse.
- 14:41And that's self-explanatory. I don't think I had that before.
- 14:45But I might have heard something. Red horse. You had crazy horse, obviously.
- 14:50But it's not my type of sea. Not the ones that are out there.
- 14:53Now, I do remember a couple of other ones. Valentine.
- 14:57Valentine was one that it was very familiar with many folks out there.
- 15:01And, you know, San I's. San I's, I believe, was like one of the ones that because
- 15:05of being lesser than the other ones.
- 15:07It's one of the ones that I tasted. It's been, you know, San I's.
- 15:11Damn, I had a good time with San I's, but San I's, yeah, San I's is San I's, bro.
- 15:17I mean, if you drink San I's, God bless your soul.
- 15:20But it was a little bit more money than, let's say, King Cobra and a little
- 15:26bit less than the other one.
- 15:27So, you know, shout out to San I's. Hey, if you remember any other beers,
- 15:31you got the Budweiser's.
- 15:33Oh, you know, before I, you know, you got the Budweiser. You got some of the
- 15:36big dogs or more of the top dogs, name brand.
- 15:41Budweiser, I think that if I consume 3% to 5% and probably even less than that,
- 15:48Budweiser in my life, I think it's a little bit too much.
- 15:51I'm not one to gravitate to these big companies or just regular casual beers
- 15:56because I'm a crap beer type of person.
- 15:59And even, let's say, when it comes to 40s.
- 16:02Now, there was one time that I was drinking Coors Light. now
- 16:06my understanding cool's light was like 4.5 percent
- 16:09alcohol 5 percent alcohol and the price was
- 16:13there because you know even though these were bigger companies they
- 16:16still priced the 40s at a cheaper beer you know
- 16:19what i mean for whatever reason because you
- 16:22know more liquor is like the bottom of the whatever the bottom of
- 16:25the bottom you know and cause like i remember
- 16:28drinking cause like for a while a long time ago
- 16:31and i always used to get these two two bottles
- 16:3440s i mean it's 80 ounce oh
- 16:37i kid you that i remember i used to drink the first the
- 16:41first bottle i shugged it like it was nothing
- 16:43i remember on the second one halfway hey different
- 16:48story you know what i mean but once again talk to me
- 16:50let me know what you was drinking what kind of 40s you was drinking if
- 16:54i did forget anything of that nature hit me
- 16:56up hit the comment you already know just please
- 17:00please drink responsibly do your
- 17:03thing go out there just be careful what you
- 17:06drink cut down your drinking if you have to or if you must and
- 17:09i do recommend but that it's one thing
- 17:12that hey listen we're making it happen for sure and we out of here once again
- 17:17hit the like share we got a legendary podcast and this beautiful podcast we
- 17:22doing it all we chopping it up and today was mart liquor next time we are saving
- 17:27the world let's make it happen i'm out peace.
