Transcript
- 0:06[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville Jaguar's fans, welcome in to Duval Daily, presented by Genjag.com.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Jordan Lua, thanks so much for being here Tuesday, November 11th.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_00]: A somewhat somber Tuesday, freezing cold Tuesday outside and Jacksonville Florida, that's for sure.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_00]: I felt like I need a glove's walk in the dog this morning.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_00]: But Jaguar's have a lot of, a lot of decisions, question marks to answer, moving forward.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, so many could probably do like a two or three-hour show just talking about the different questions facing this football team moving forward.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_00]: But one of the more interesting ones in my opinion is, you know, the Brian Thomas Jr. situation, the receiver situation, pass-cutter situation, and general.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to talk about that here today.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate y'all being here.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_00]: If you enjoy the content, please like and subscribe.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_00]: I do my best.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_00]: to analyze what I see in front of me and give honest opinions and analysis.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_00]: And so, really appreciate y'all for rockin' with me.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_00]: We do have a sale for T's Day, you know, Tuesday, but T's Day.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_00]: $15 T shirts all day on the site with code Duval, y'all know the code.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: It's D-U-U-U-V-A-L, three use $15 T shirts and every order does come with
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: absolutely love it.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_00]: So, Brian Thomas Jr. What a conundrum Brian Thomas Jr. has become the situation with Brian Thomas Jr. And I'm not necessarily trying to make any sweeping, massive conclusions right now, just kind of trying to explore the
- 1:58[SPEAKER_00]: is Brian Thomas Jr. A number two receiver for the Jack Wars.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_00]: And number three receiver is he the fourth best receiver.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_00]: How much value does he provide to the team?
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: That's a it's tough to answer, but.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: We do know the ceiling.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_00]: Brian Thomas Jr. can bring to the field is immense.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely immense.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's like there is no ceiling like there's no cap on what he can be.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_00]: The unfortunate reality of this situation is right now, he is a question mark when he's on the field.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_00]: Is he going to have maximum effort?
- 2:44[SPEAKER_00]: Is he going to catch the ball?
- 2:48[SPEAKER_00]: And of course right now he's dealing with an ankle injury.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: He's dealt with a wrist injury, shoulder injury and ankle injury.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you know, had a rough summer training camp, all that stuff.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_00]: I kind of dismissed that and said, you know, he didn't have a great training camp either and 20, 24 and you saw how he played.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, it's kind of carried over.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_00]: It feels like the frustration and the lack of confidence and the lack of effort at times.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's carried over.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_00]: And now the Jaguars.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_00]: have legitimate other options.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Jacobi Myers, that trade, I do not believe the Jaguar's trade for Jacobi Myers, thinking it was a rental.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think that they want to bring him back and I think they should want to bring him back.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_00]: He's a professional receiver.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_00]: He's six, two, he's 200 pounds.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_00]: He has great hands, he's smart or run block.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_00]: runs good routes, he's quick, doesn't have the speed of a Brian Thomas junior.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_00]: But he has a lot more consistency.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, to me, that guy's in your building right now.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_00]: He is a good character to have in your building.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: He is a damn good receiver.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_00]: You don't let that guy out of the building.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: And he's consistent hands.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_00]: James Ladsdon, that's a superpower, right?
- 4:18[SPEAKER_00]: Travis Hunter.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we know how consistent his hands are.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_00]: And when he gets it, truly gets it just like the timing of all the routes, there's no ceiling to what he could be.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_00]: The ceiling is through the roof, right?
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: And he has great hands and plays with a lot of effort.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_00]: And then
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: I have said on this show, you know, I think he's a great four, great four, and obviously he still is.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_00]: And I think right now, if the Jaguar is get fully healthy at wide receiver, he will be the fourth receiver, probably, but should he be?
- 5:20[SPEAKER_00]: Travis Hunter, Jacobie Myers, Parker Washington, or Travis Hunter, Jacobie Myers, Brian Thomas Jr. And of course, there's different situations that call for different skill sets.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not like you can't use all for you absolutely can.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: But I would probably rather have the trio that includes Parker as your top three right now.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: just insane to say.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like my skin's crawling even, you know, saying Brian Thomas Jr might not be a top three-wide receiver for the Jaguars right now.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_00]: But Parker, he does a lot of the things, you know, he obviously doesn't have the size or athleticism, the BTJ does, but he does a lot of the things that help the offense execute.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_00]: He has been more consistent than BT at the catch point.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_00]: He's tougher, he's physical, he has that energy about him, right?
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: It's a tough situation.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_00]: It's tough to think, I mean, I don't have to make the decision, which is very fortunate for everyone, including myself, but how do you handle this moving forward?
- 6:42[SPEAKER_00]: and not just in 2025, because I mean, right now, if E.T.J.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_00]: gets healthy and he's ready to go for the Charger's game, then yeah.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's a top-through series on the field a lot because Travis Hunter's injured, but what happens when they're all healthy?
- 7:00[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: And then what happens in the off-season?
- 7:06[SPEAKER_00]: If you said, and I know, I'm not even including, be on me, Brown, because I don't think he should be included.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: uh... i think that the jag war is coaching staff probably feels that way too based on what we saw on sunday when you look at diami i mean and i don't know if if the injuries throughout the year have really kind of taken their toll on him and impacted his ability to produce but i mean he had one target on on sunday only twenty three
- 7:44[SPEAKER_00]: on offense.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_00]: Eight of those were run blocking reps.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I don't think you need to include Diami in the top four talk when everyone is healthy.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: Certainly not in the top three.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_00]: If you feel like you're super comfortable with Parker being your third receiver and we haven't
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: not necessarily wide receiver, but receiver, right?
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: What do you do with me, DJ?
- 8:22[SPEAKER_00]: You try to find a trade partner.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously right now you're not training him.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_00]: I think right now, from today, November 11th, to the end of this year, is in a valuation period.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: to figure it out.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_00]: I really do.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_00]: If he can't turn a corner, which I will say like the last time he played, he played pretty well and he fought through injury and he played with effort and hustle and all that stuff against the Raiders.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: But that's been very inconsistent.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the drops have been abysmal.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: The effort at times has been abysmal.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: It's been like,
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: Throwing the ball to Brian Thomas Jr. has cost the Jaguar as a lot more than it has been offended them this year.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_00]: Point blank.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_00]: So, if you go into this, if things kind of remain the same as they are right now, where you just don't know what you're going to get from Brian Thomas Jr., do you keep them?
- 9:29[SPEAKER_00]: Or do you say, we'll take what we can get and we're going to
- 9:36[SPEAKER_00]: Jacobi, Travis, Parker, Brenton Strange.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_00]: And Strange in Washington will be going into year four in 2026.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: Go ahead and extend them.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: I wouldn't have a problem with that.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_00]: I love the way those guys play.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: And so yeah, I'm good with Parker Washington being your third receiver.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: Physiocobi, Travis, Parker, Britain, as your top receivers, Travis C.T.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: and out of the back field.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_00]: I like that group.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_00]: I really do.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I'm not saying right now that you trade Brian Thomas Jr. at the end of the season, I'm saying we have to see something from him.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_00]: We have to see something from him.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_00]: For him to really be in your long-term plans.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: I strongly believe that.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: And it's crazy to say if you would have told me in June, July that I'd be sitting here saying this in November, let's said you're out of your damn mind, but he's got to prove something.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: Because this is not an organization that kind of, you can't say, well, we'll be competitive in three years.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_00]: No, this is an organization that has to have a payroll that has too much money invested in the team.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: that has too much expectation, their internal expectation is to win the division.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_00]: You can't wait.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_00]: And they've got to build through the draft, obviously they can bring in some free agents and do whatever they want as well, better and wise, but this is an organization that needs to build through the draft in a lot of ways with the way the roster is currently constructed.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_00]: BTJ what do you do?
- 11:35[SPEAKER_00]: I want to know what y'all think in the comment section below.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_00]: I'm really really looking forward to hearing that because it's a conundrum for me.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_00]: So really appreciate you being here.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_00]: If you enjoy the content, please like and subscribe.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: Y'all have a good one.
