- 0:21All right, everybody, you're listening to Eagles postgame analysis here at the Philadelphia
- 0:25Sports Table podcast show, the longest running weekly Philly sports podcast show in the
- 0:28world, over ten and a half years strong. Week eight of this Philadelphia
- 0:33Eagles twenty twenty three twenty twenty four season is now in the books. They
- 0:37beat the Washington Commanders down in landover Maryland by a score of thirty eight to
- 0:43thirty one, a pretty close game, quite frankly, as it was during
- 0:48their first meeting this season. Eagles are now seven to one on the season.
- 0:53My goodness, what a freaking game here. I can't wait to get
- 0:56to our grades. I'm Jeff Warren. I'm here with our good buddy from
- 1:00Philadelphia Soccer now, and he's also doing some hockey writing as well with regard
- 1:06to the Philadelphia Flyers too. Got our buddy, Josh Schuster. How you
- 1:10doing, man? Well, Jeff? At least they won, because I
- 1:14was gonna come on and say we can talk any variety of topics from all
- 1:17our Christmas movies to the Liverpool match earlier today to the Unions win yesterday.
- 1:22Yes, but I guess we'll spend time talking about this dominant performance today.
- 1:29Look, before we really get into the game, just wanted to go over
- 1:33some brief injuries. Jalen Carter went out with a back injury. Darius Slay
- 1:37went out in the fourth quarter grabbing his mid section. I'm not one hundred
- 1:40percent sure if he actually did come back in, and Sua Opeta was out
- 1:44for the game for about a quarter or so and then went back in.
- 1:49Tyler Steen replaced him for a good quarter or so. So I just wanted
- 1:53to throw all that out there as as we move along here in this coming
- 1:57week. But all right, let's get into our theme here, Josh,
- 2:00and I think you know that the biggest theme for me with regard to this
- 2:06game, probably you as well as the defense just didn't show up for about
- 2:09ninety five percent of the game. I mean you could see it right at
- 2:14the beginning of this matchup. The Commanders just utilized short passes, bubble screens,
- 2:19slants early on in the game, Sam how Is getting the ball out
- 2:23quickly. There was absolutely no pressure either coming from this Eagles defense. When
- 2:29you talk about the amount of sacks in this game up until the fourth quarter
- 2:31garbage time, there was none. There was none. Then the Eagles actually
- 2:36ended up getting a sack, one sack in this game, six quarterback hits.
- 2:40It was. It was one of the worst defensive performances that I've seen
- 2:45from this team in quite some time. Yeah, I mean, while,
- 2:49Jeff, you know, they are going up against an elite offensive line here
- 2:53in Washington that has given up more sacks than any other team in the NFL.
- 2:57So thankfully they got that one. But yeah, it just you and
- 3:01I were texting throughout the game, and I have been very open about the
- 3:07fact of I have great disdain for this defensive scheme. I hate that they
- 3:10play off five to seven yards When you have players like McLaurin, he just
- 3:15feasts. There's it just happens. And my comment to you was, if
- 3:22they're going to play five to seven yards off the ball, then don't let
- 3:25them run right past you. That's the whole design of that is to not
- 3:29give up big plays. And today they just couldn't do anything. You had
- 3:32mentioned that Bradbury looks old last week your last Yeah, I guess it was
- 3:37last week, and then also you know you text me that today and it's
- 3:39true. But this defensive scheme is just it. It is not good and
- 3:47I am I am very concerned about facing Dallas next week because as much grief
- 3:53as we give Dak Prescott, he is better than Sam Howell, and Edie
- 4:00Lamb is much better than McLaren and McLaren's a good receiver, but these two
- 4:03are those two are just going to feast if they're going to keep doing this.
- 4:08So my main takeaway is that Sam Howell is the quarterback of my nightmares.
- 4:14I had said before to you before recording that he smoked South Carolina for
- 4:18years, and now he's smoking the Eagles, and so I guess I know
- 4:23how the Jets fans feel when they face Brady. Sam Howell is my Tom
- 4:27Brady. So that's my main takeaway. You talk about Dallas next week,
- 4:30I'm worried about the Chiefs. I'm worried about the Bills and what this defense
- 4:34is going to do against those dynamic offensive units. Look, I mean the
- 4:38Bills aren't necessarily one hundred percent of what they were perhaps last year or even
- 4:42maybe in twenty twenty one. However, they are a dynamic offense and this
- 4:47defense, I mean even the secondary seem to just not have a clue what
- 4:53was going on. You mentioned James Bradberry, my gosh, just getting burnt
- 4:56a number of times this season, certainly in this game one for a touchdown.
- 5:01It really does look like he's slowing down, as we talked about last
- 5:04week on the postgame podcast. And I will say that, yes, James
- 5:08Bradbury did have a nice pass breakup right before the half on a fourth and
- 5:12one for Washington, But brad Berry, even Darius Slay doesn't necessarily quote look
- 5:18like himself. The secondary in general just seems to be completely out of whack.
- 5:23These two guys, Bradbury and Slay, they just don't look like the
- 5:26dynamic duo that we've kind of been used to, and something is going on
- 5:30with the secondary. Kevin Byard, I mean just he was out there today
- 5:33but really didn't do much of anything. Reid Blankenship up until he had the
- 5:38interception in the fourth quarter, he had probably the worst game that I've seen
- 5:42from a safety in quite some time. He was terrible in this game up
- 5:46until that interception. The secondary is is really concerning me as we're moving forward
- 5:51here, and I know we're sounded like this team lost. It's a thirty
- 5:55eight to thirty one win on the road against the division opponent. But still
- 5:59I'm concerned. Know, yeah, I sometimes I think scores lie In a
- 6:05way, I'm kind of glad that Washington scored that last touchdown simply because if
- 6:10the Eagles had won this game by fourteen points like that is not even remotely
- 6:15accurate to this game. And we talk it feels like every single time,
- 6:20it's the tale of two halves, right, Yeah, the first half,
- 6:24every player, maybe outside of Jalen, gets an f just coaching staff,
- 6:30everyone. But the second half things turned around. But even it was much
- 6:38closer than a seven point game. They were. They were lucky to come
- 6:41out of this one with when And I think a lot of it comes down
- 6:46to expectations. Like we talk about grading Jalen Hurts on the contract curve,
- 6:49grading the Eagles on the aspiration curve. If your team is a Super Bowl
- 6:55hopeful, you should not be satisfied with this and just talk fucking flowers and
- 7:00rose petals. This was not a good game today. In fact, if
- 7:03they were playing pretty much any team outside of Washington, they probably lose.
- 7:06Probably. Yeah, yeah, I think you're absolutely correct. And look,
- 7:10it wasn't all gloomy and we're certainly gonna get to folks some of the positives
- 7:15in this game, because there were definitely a few. But I want to
- 7:17move over to the offensive side of things, and I gotta say I just
- 7:20once again, and Twitter absolutely blew up with it, and rightfully, rightfully
- 7:26so enough of Kenneth Gainwell inside the ten yard line. I mean, he
- 7:30fumbled in the second quarter as we know is are getting ready to score.
- 7:33The Kenny Gainwell touches in high leverage situations remains absolutely insane to me. I
- 7:40cannot believe it. And yes, they got him back into the game.
- 7:43He was catching some balls, he was getting some yardage after that, maybe
- 7:46to get his confidence back, Josh, but my gosh. And then seeing
- 7:49the second turnover and fumble inside the five yard line as the Eagles were getting
- 7:54ready to score that Jalen Hurts fumble on the brotherly shove, which we really
- 7:59don't see two too long often. Those turnovers in the red zone were absolutely
- 8:03enraging, but more so because Jalen Hurts. We're gonna get to him in
- 8:07a bit, had a phenomenal, a phenomenal and fantastic day. But Kenny
- 8:11Gainwell inside the red zone the way that they're utilizing him, I have no
- 8:16idea why Brian Johnson continues to do this over and over with the support of
- 8:20Nick Sirianni. I cannot imagine why they think Kenny Gainwell instead of DeAndre Swift
- 8:26in those high leverage situations is the better option. I just can't believe it.
- 8:31So you know this is team the Kenny Gainwell game. It'll go down
- 8:37in history if I told you at halftime and I text you this, Yes,
- 8:43who was tied for the most touches of the football next to A.
- 8:48J. Brown. Yes, it's the surefire Hall of Famer Kenny Gainwell.
- 8:54Jack Fritz. I think he tweeted it out best. He just simply said
- 8:58that Kennan came. Kenny Gainwell needs to be cut for the sake of this
- 9:03coaching staff because they just refuse to not play him. Like in life,
- 9:07all of us need to find someone who loves us as much as this Eagles
- 9:13coaching staff loves Kenny Gainwell, because we will never be unhappy if that's the
- 9:16case. Exactly, Ever, no matter what we do, we'll be loved'ct
- 9:20exactly. Look, he had two carries for negative four yards on the day.
- 9:26He had five receptions see caught on five targets for thirty yards average six
- 9:31yards per reception. Why do they love him so much? I don't know,
- 9:37change of pace, Jeff, Yeah, yeah, exactly, exactly.
- 9:41Well, talk about some of the good stuff with this with this Eagles team,
- 9:43and I guess first and foremost we got to talk about Jalen Hurts because
- 9:46yes, I mentioned the fumble. It was terrible again ready to go into
- 9:50to score. The Brotherly Shove is a fantastic play. We all love it
- 9:56as Eagles fans, and a lot of other folks don't like it, and
- 9:58that's what There other reasons why we love it. But it's so successful,
- 10:01but he freaking fumbled it so enraging. However, Jalen Hurts ends this day
- 10:07twenty nine of thirty eight for three hundred and nineteen yards. He averaged eight
- 10:11point four yards per attempt, four touchdowns, no interceptions, with a rating
- 10:18of one hundred and thirty five point seven. One hell of a day from
- 10:22Jalen Hurts, Josh, And what I love about him is that one him
- 10:28being injured hasn't necessarily been affecting his play that much. Perhaps it does when
- 10:33he is trying to break out of the pocket and a play breaks down,
- 10:35perhaps it is affecting him in regards to those type of situations. However,
- 10:41he fumbled the ball, knew that he needed to get up, needed to
- 10:46refocus, and he absolutely did and he did that for this offense and frankly,
- 10:52in my opinion, Jalen Hurts is the reason why this team won this
- 10:56particular game and no other reason than Jalen Hurt connecting with AJ Brown, I
- 11:01would say it's like if there's one A and one B for why they won
- 11:05this game. Jalen Hurts, one A, one B for AJ Brown eight
- 11:09receptions for one hundred and thirty yards on eight targets. He caught all eight
- 11:16balls for two touchdowns and AJ Brown recording an NFL record sixth consecutive game with
- 11:22one hundred and twenty five plus receiving yards. And I want to get to
- 11:26those receiving yards in just a bit. But going back to Jalen Hurts,
- 11:30what a game, What a game from him? The fact that we have
- 11:33this franchise quarterback who isn't one hundred percent perfect, but somebody who can make
- 11:37a mistake get into his head where he needs to get his just mind set
- 11:43and focus and make sure that this team ends up winning at the end of
- 11:46the day. I just I just love the guy. I love him.
- 11:50Yeah, folks, I promise we don't hate Jalen Hurts almost this podcast.
- 11:54We are a pro Jalen Hurts podcast. Yes, I'll walk back kind of
- 12:01the what I've said the last two times about his performances. I think this
- 12:05week he came out about his Bruce knee and Bruce bone. I believe it's
- 12:09on his knee. Yeah, that that kind of changes a lot of things
- 12:13in terms of how critical I was, because there's only so much you can
- 12:16do. I've I've had a bone Bruce once and it was really unpleasant to
- 12:20even just walk. He was. He was phenomenal today, And like you
- 12:26said, I think there's really three reasons why they won. You have Hurts
- 12:30one A Brown, one B and then Kenny gain Well one C. Obviously,
- 12:35so, but I think that he just he did everything that he needed
- 12:41to do. He didn't really throw into double coverage today. He was smart
- 12:45with the ball. He didn't do the run and slide for like two yards.
- 12:52He just was smart with the ball today, which is what we're used
- 12:56to with him. I think they need to put a pause on the brother
- 13:00least shove or the tush push, whatever you want to call it, because
- 13:03when I see my quarterback limping around, the last thing I want is him,
- 13:09you know, being put in unnecessary harm. When you have DeAndre Swift
- 13:13that can run it in, there's just no need. So I would say
- 13:16until after the bye, let's just kind of put that on ice. That
- 13:22way, Jalen doesn't get hurt anymore than he needs to be. That's a
- 13:24really great point. I mean, I think a lot of that depends on
- 13:28where they are on the field, what the actual situation is, what quarter
- 13:31they're in, the dynamics of the game. But I agree taking a break
- 13:35from it in certain situations I think is going to be absolutely necessarily necessary for
- 13:41Jalen Hurts his health moving forward here because he's got another half of this season
- 13:45to go here. But with regard to aj Brown, Josh, I just
- 13:48want to give his stats over these past six games, which is absolutely phenomenal.
- 13:54The fact that this Eagles organization and this team has a true we are
- 13:58talking a true oh number one wide receiver. Today eight catches for one hundred
- 14:03and thirty yards two touchdowns. Last week ten catches, one hundred and thirty
- 14:07seven yards and a touchdown. The week prior to that seven catches for one
- 14:11hundred and thirty one yards. Week prior to that, six catches for one
- 14:15hundred and twenty seven yards. Week prior to that nine catches one hundred and
- 14:20seventy five yards and two touchdowns. And then that first over one hundred and
- 14:26thirty yard game, he had nine catches for one hundred and thirty one yards.
- 14:30It's amazing what having a number one wide receiver with his strength, his
- 14:35body makeup what he is able to do. And how many times we were
- 14:39texting during the game. How many times have we been calling for that ball
- 14:43to be thrown? Just have Aj Brown go up to the catch point,
- 14:48get it, bring it down and it's going to be a touchdown. And
- 14:50we saw it twice today. How many times have we been talking about that
- 14:56draw. It's almost like it's almost like the coaching staff listen to PS two,
- 15:00especially last week. But in all serious ness, you know, Aj
- 15:03Brown, it is so amazing to have a number one wide receiver like him,
- 15:09and also great that Julio Jones got his first touchdown as a Philadelphia Eagle
- 15:13too, So I wanted to say that, but Aj Brown, man,
- 15:16God God bless him, really is fantastic, and it is It is a
- 15:20privilege, I think for us to be able to watch him on the field.
- 15:24Yeah. Absolutely, I'm not always right, Jeff, I know this
- 15:28may be a shock. Occasionally I'm wrong. Oh, but one of the
- 15:33things that I was really wrong about was AJ Brown. When he was drafted.
- 15:37I thought it was complete waste of a pick by the Titans. I
- 15:41thought there were better players on the board, and I thought to myself,
- 15:46you know, Tennessee is where wide receivers go to die, and I just
- 15:50I didn't see any way that he was going to be anything in the NFL.
- 15:54And I could not have been more wrong. He is just he is
- 15:58so much fun to watch. There's certain players that are divas that I think
- 16:03earn it, and I would put him in that category. I think that
- 16:06Aj Brown has every right to, like he did either Week three or Week
- 16:11four, just go over and be upset and demand the football. The way
- 16:17he plays backs it up and it is so rare that he drops a ball,
- 16:22kind of like McLaurin today with the two drops. It's very rare for
- 16:26either of those guys. To drop a ball, and I'm thankful he's on
- 16:30the team because I remember t O on the Birds. But aj Brown is
- 16:34really something special and he loves it here. And you brought up the Julio
- 16:41Jones thing. I think one of the things that makes makes the Eagles so
- 16:44special in a place where players want to come even on minimum contracts is you
- 16:49know, Julio barely finished catching that ball and getting back up, and everybody
- 16:56was already around him, ready to celebrate with him and making it about him,
- 17:00And that's just it was just so much fun to see. And I
- 17:03don't really know that there's other teams in the NFL that do that, to
- 17:06be perfectly honest, yeah, I don't think the total team mentality, Yeah,
- 17:10it absolutely is. Which brings us to some more stats that I just
- 17:14wanted to throw out there for folks. In terms of receiving, Let's not
- 17:18forget about Davonte Smith. He was targeted seven times, came down with all
- 17:22seven balls for ninety nine yards, almost got to that one hundred yard mark,
- 17:26but ninety nine yards fourteen point one yards per reception, one touchdown on
- 17:30the day. Dallas Goddard was targeted seven times as well, but he only
- 17:33came down with four balls for thirty six yards. Not the greatest day from
- 17:37Dallas Godder, but really he did make some pretty good plays when he needed
- 17:41to make them on the field. And again, the greatest, the greatest
- 17:45pass catcher in Eagles history, Kenneth Gainwell, like I said, five receptions
- 17:48for thirty yards, and I'm not gonna go through all of them, but
- 17:52gotta tell you, Jalen Hurts really spreading the ball around and those top guys
- 18:00AJ Brown and DeVante Smith getting it done today just absolutely dominant. Can't wait
- 18:04to grade the offense, can't wait to grade the defense too. So do
- 18:08you have any other themes, buddy, before we get to our grades this
- 18:11week? Yeah? I am really done with these tight end screens, especially
- 18:18on third and long. Yeah, they work really well on third and short
- 18:22or second in short, but on third and long these screenplays just they aren't
- 18:27They're scripted, and the defense knows they're coming on third and long. They
- 18:33have to change up. And so I think Goddard's performance today isn't so much
- 18:37on him as in the position that he was put in, using him far
- 18:42more in a blocking way, in a blocking role than I would really like
- 18:48to see with somebody with his abilities, but such a life. They get
- 18:52paid the big bucks. I don't. Absolutely, we haven't seen him too
- 18:55much over the middle of this season. We really haven't. It's bizarre to
- 18:59see. All right, Should we get to our grades, buddy, Yeah,
- 19:02let's do it. All right, Well, let's get to our grades.
- 19:03But first we're gonna take a break, folks. We will be back
- 19:07in just a bit. All right, we are back. We're here with
- 19:10our good friend of the pod, Josh Schuster and Josh. Let's get into
- 19:15our grades. We're gonna grade by unit and then grade the coaching as well.
- 19:18Jalen Hurts this week gets an A plus. We went over the stats
- 19:22earlier on the show. What a fantastic and phenomenal game. We just love
- 19:26what he did. One of the reasons why they won this game A plus
- 19:30for me? What do you give them? I would agree with you,
- 19:33except I'm gonna go B plus because the fumble and where it was at I
- 19:37got chumble took place on like the thirty. If it took place in their
- 19:41own end, it would be an A plus for me. But because it
- 19:45literally was cost seven points, it comes down a letter grade for me.
- 19:51But other than that, he was just spectacular. I gotcha. My reasoning
- 19:55for the A plus then is I completely get where you're coming from. But
- 19:57my reasoning for the A plus said earlier he was able to get back into
- 20:02that mindset of Okay, I need to put that in the past and I
- 20:03need to focus on what I need to do, and he was actually able
- 20:07to do it. But I completely get the B plus. Buddy, completely
- 20:08get that for sure. Let's head to the running backs here. They only
- 20:12carried the ball twenty two times. DeAndre Swift had sixteen carries for fifty seven
- 20:18yards. He averaged three point six yards per carry and a touchdown. I
- 20:22mentioned Kenneth Gainwell two carries for negative four yards, and Jalen Hurts wasn't running,
- 20:26and I'm glad he wasn't. With that, Bruce Knee four carries for
- 20:30six yards total of fifty nine yards on the day. This rushing attack quote
- 20:34attack two point seven yards per attempt, very very pitiful, But I think
- 20:40a lot of it was how this game was scripted and how the play calling
- 20:44was going. I still love DeAndre Swift what he's able to do out there.
- 20:48I'm going to give the running backs this week, A straight up Sea.
- 20:51I don't even know if that's fair, but I'm giving them a seed
- 20:55from what we're seeing here also on the stat sheet. So what are you
- 20:56think of Josh? Yeah, I think it Sea that fair? You know.
- 21:00The way I look at it is again, it's the kind of the
- 21:02roles the players are put. In the last couple of weeks, I understood
- 21:06why they were passing so much more. This is one of the weeks I
- 21:08didn't get it. Yeah, it's not like Washington had any significant players out
- 21:14in terms of cornerbacks and different things. They have a good pass rush to
- 21:18me, the way you offset the pass rush as you run it. And
- 21:21I would have liked to see more runs more specifically with DeAndre Swift. Oh
- 21:25yeah, so I think a C grade is fair. I think they did
- 21:27about what they could with the roles that they were given. Yep, all
- 21:33right, very good. Let's head to the receivers, tight ends and wide
- 21:36receivers this week. I am going to give these gentlemen an a plus.
- 21:41That's what I give them. What do you give them? Yeah? Same?
- 21:44The only turnover and really they didn't really have many drops today. The
- 21:49only turnover came from Gainwell and he's not a receiver, so they get an
- 21:52A plus from me. Yep, that's very it's fair A plus all around.
- 21:56I get three hundred and nineteen total receivers yards on the day, and
- 22:00again AJ Brown with one hundred and thirty and DeVante Smith with ninety nine.
- 22:03Fantastic. So let's move over to the offensive line. Some breakdowns every now
- 22:11and then in pass pro. I mean, we saw Lane Johnson having a
- 22:14couple of struggles throughout the game, which was really bizarre to see. And
- 22:18again Sua Opeta going out, Tyler Steen coming out. Tyler Steen did a
- 22:22pretty darn good job, whether it was in run block. Actually I don't
- 22:26even know if he got any run blocking, now that I'm thinking about it,
- 22:30I actually don't know if he did any run blocking because it was just
- 22:33so pass heavy when Sue Opetta went out. So anyway, I'm gonna give
- 22:40the offensive line this week. If I had to say, I'd say B
- 22:42minus because there were some breakdowns here and there. They weren't able to really
- 22:47generate too too many holes for DeAndre Swift on his sixteen carries, and some
- 22:52of those carries were kind of in garbage time as well. So I'm gonna
- 22:55give him a B minus. What do you give him? I'm actually gonna
- 22:57give him an A minus. Okay to me, Washington, they have a
- 23:03lot of deficiencies on their roster. The one place they don't is they've kind
- 23:07of adopted the Eagles model on that side of the ball, the defensive line.
- 23:11Not so much the offensive line, but the defensive line. They're a
- 23:14very talented young group, and so I have no problem with the two sacks
- 23:19and hurts. There were many times today that he had a good amount of
- 23:25time to sit back there. So I'm going to give him an a minus
- 23:29because I think they did a pretty good job. All right, sounds good.
- 23:33Let's talk about the defense now. The defensive line just not generating a
- 23:37lot of pass rushes today at all, not really getting into that backfield.
- 23:41There wasn't too too much pressure on Sam Howell, who ended the day by
- 23:45the way, three hundred and ninety seven yards and four touchdowns an interception.
- 23:51He ended with a rating of one hundred and fourteen. Just overall, tough
- 23:56day for the defense. I'm gonna give the defensive line this week a D.
- 24:00Quite frankly, what do you give them. Yeah, I give him
- 24:03a D minus. And the only reason why they aren't in F is because
- 24:07they did get the one critical sack at the end. Yes, and I
- 24:11think the one interception that Howell threw he was under pressure. But today was
- 24:17unacceptable from them against that offensive line. I'm sorry. I don't care how
- 24:21quick they were getting rid of the ball. Yeah, Washington's offensive line is
- 24:23the worst in the league. Just it's unacceptable. It's funny. I've read
- 24:29a tweet from our good friend of the pod, Brandon lee gouton BLG from
- 24:32BGN Radio. He tweeted out that the Eagles have more sacks actually than they
- 24:37did at this time last year, but the Commander's offensive line allowing the most
- 24:42sacks in the NFL. So naturally the Eagles are not getting any pressure against
- 24:48the Commanders. And that's it. That's what we saw. I was at
- 24:52great tweet from BLG. So yeah, very very fair grades here. And
- 24:56the linebackers I thought had a really rough game too, really, especially in
- 25:00past past coverage, just terrible. I'm gonna give them a D minus as
- 25:04well. It could be an F actually for me. So it's right around
- 25:07that area. I'll go D minus. What do you give them? Yeah,
- 25:17the middle of the field was just it was feast. It wasn't feast
- 25:21or famine. It was just feasted. Yeah. Really, the only time
- 25:23plays weren't made over the middle was because McLaurin dropped those two balls. Otherwise
- 25:27everything thrown over the middle of the field would have been completed. Yep,
- 25:33just it was. Today was a day. It was an example of when
- 25:37you don't invest in your linebackers, it will come back to bite you.
- 25:41The Eagles are lucky they got out of today with the win. With that
- 25:44being the case, absolutely good point. Secondary. I'm giving them an F
- 25:48this week. I do not care about read blanket ships in erse. Let's
- 25:51say I do care. I'm sorry, I do care. But up until
- 25:55that interception, as I mentioned earlier in the show, he was horrendous.
- 26:00He was horrendous. Kevin Byerd, Yes he had seven total tackles on the
- 26:03day. I just it's Sydney Brown. Yes he had a tackle for a
- 26:08loss. He had eight total tackles on the day as well, But just
- 26:11they were terrible. The secondary was pretty terrible today and I'm actually going to
- 26:15give them an F. What do you give him? Yeah. So I'm
- 26:21gonna take Sidney Brown out of this because honestly, I think he's a player
- 26:23that's generated in Madden that just happened to play today where it was a giveaway
- 26:27if the player a fan being able to play right. But he actually was
- 26:32pretty decent today, Yes, to be perfectly honest, and so I'm going
- 26:36to remove him. But everyone else you get an F. I mean,
- 26:41Thomas, he is, He's like a mediocre tight end and they made him
- 26:47look like an all pro. I just logan Thomas. I just can't just
- 26:53they Yeah, they get they get an F and I'll take Brown out of
- 26:57there. Yeah. Well, I think it's import with the Read Blankenship interception
- 27:00too. And I'll go back to a tweet that we received on our account
- 27:06during the game, you know, talking about I mentioned something about Reid Blankenship.
- 27:11The gentleman wrote back, basically saying if he wasn't playing ten yards off,
- 27:15he probably wouldn't have had that interception either. So it was a bad
- 27:18throw by Sam Hall. It's not like Read Blankenship actually made a play.
- 27:22Necessarily, the play needed to be made at that particular point in time.
- 27:26He needed to catch it because Sam Howe threw a terrible ball, so I
- 27:30think that's important for context too. That's why I'm giving an F this to
- 27:36this secondary unit. So all right, let's move to coaching special teams here.
- 27:41I thought special teams did fantastic, and I gotta say Brittan Covey with
- 27:45that twenty five yard punt return in the third quarter really helped set the team
- 27:51up and that offense up for a scoring drive. It was so necessary that
- 27:56twenty five yard punt return. There was a fifty eight yard punt by Braden
- 28:00Mann in the first quarter. Jake Elliott's making a fifty one yard or in
- 28:03this game. I've given special teams in a this week. I thought they
- 28:07did pretty phenomenal. Yeah, I agree, I give him the same grade.
- 28:11And Jeff enjoyed that Covey return because that's the one for the year.
- 28:15At least it was in a game where they needed it and it was momentous.
- 28:18It was, so, you know, they get an A for me.
- 28:22All right, let's move to the defense. Sean Decigh. You know,
- 28:26I was mentioned in this team before we hit the record by I'm not
- 28:30sure what I'm going to do with regard to the defense because up until that
- 28:33interception. It was an F for me, but that interception did. At
- 28:37the end of the day, there was a play that needed to be made.
- 28:40Like I just mentioned, the play was made and it helped shift the
- 28:42momentum. The Eagles were able to score. The offense was able to go
- 28:45down the field there and score. It was a short field, but they
- 28:48needed to get it done and it happened. So I'm gonna give Sean decigh
- 28:52a D minus this week. What do you give him? Yeah? He
- 28:56gets an F? Okay, got So I'm going to read a quarterback stats?
- 29:00Were you twenty four of twenty six, two hundred and twenty six yards
- 29:03and two touchdowns? Okay, that was Sam Howell in the first half.
- 29:07That was the first half. I'm sorry you get an F. This nonsense
- 29:12of playing way off is it's costing you the middle of the field. You
- 29:15don't have the linebackers to do it. And against really good teams, this
- 29:19is gonna bite them. It's gonna bite them and it's going to be a
- 29:22problem. They get an F. Yep, I think it's fair for sure.
- 29:26And Nick Sirianni and Brian Johnson the offensive side of things, offensive coaching
- 29:32this week. I'm gonna give these guys a B plus because there were times
- 29:37when I'm questioning the play calling on the field, but the players were the
- 29:41ones that really needed to execute, especially as we mentioned earlier, Jalen Hurts,
- 29:45Aj Brown, DeVante Smith not only with great stats, but they were
- 29:48able to lead the charge for this offense today. I think it came down
- 29:52to the players more so than the coaching. I'm gonna give the coach the
- 29:56offensive coaches a B plus today. What do you give them? You're you're
- 30:00really generous. They're they're getting a D from me. I mean you had
- 30:03just mentioned I think the players bailed the coaches out. Yeah, I mean
- 30:10the play calling today was just it continues to be puzzling the red zone,
- 30:18it continues to be a problem using Kanie Kenny Gamewell, continues to be a
- 30:22problem with These are things that Jeff, I think the first time I was
- 30:27on with you was week three. Yes, it's week seven. We're still
- 30:33talking about the same problems. And when we're talking about the same things,
- 30:37it's coaching, yep. And so I don't care that they put up as
- 30:41many points as they did. The coaching staff is getting a d all right,
- 30:47you know what, you know what, I'm gonna bring mine down to
- 30:49a C. You convinced me, buddy, You convinced me. All right
- 30:56again, folks, Week eight is in the books here. It's a it's
- 31:00a win, and that's inevitably what we want. Happy for the win.
- 31:03This Eagles team is seven to one in the season. They beat the Washington
- 31:07Commanders by a score of thirty eight to thirty one. Another close game.
- 31:10And I do have to say too before we head out here, Josh,
- 31:12that these division games are close. I talked to former Washington wide receiver Anthony
- 31:19Armstrong on our preview podcast this week and he and I were talking about the
- 31:25fact that division games are just usually they usually tend to be close, and
- 31:29my gosh, the Washington Commanders, they just pose problems for this Philadelphia Eagles
- 31:33team. And at the end of the day, I think we see that
- 31:37throughout the league. Division games are tough, and they're supposed to be tough
- 31:41too. The Eagles got through it today, they did. You know,
- 31:45we think by the skin of their teeth basically, But you know, division
- 31:48games are just a little rough man. Yeah, you know, I had
- 31:52text you that my eleven month old threw up on me to point where I
- 31:56had to change both shirts and had a diaper blowout, and that was better
- 32:00than having to watch that first half. But really, what it is is
- 32:05that's divisional football, right. It's ugly, it's it's nasty. These teams
- 32:09know each other, and all you really have to do is it's not about
- 32:14earning brownie points. It's about just simply getting the W at the end of
- 32:17the day, and the Eagles were able to do that. I'm happy they
- 32:21won. Yeah, it was not pretty, but the reality is that they
- 32:25won. And if it were reversed and they had lost this game, that's
- 32:30one of those that's really hard to swallow. Absolutely, so I'm just glad
- 32:34they won. They won. They won a division game, folks. Let's
- 32:36enjoy it this week. You know, we could still be critical here and
- 32:38there, and rightfully so with certain aspects of this team, but again,
- 32:43one of the best, one of the best teams in the NFC. So
- 32:46let's keep enjoying this given what we were given by the Philadelphia Phillies this past
- 32:50week. For our Philly sports brethren, yeah, oh man, I know
- 32:55so rough. Make sure to follow Josh on Twitter at flag Hi, Josh
