Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up, guys, it's your West Coast and this is
- 0:03Speaker 1: Kohlie with with eating while broke up. So today we
- 0:07Speaker 1: are going to be having chanel West Coast? What are
- 0:10Speaker 1: you cooking for us today? I'm cooking with case to Dilla.
- 0:13Speaker 1: I'm not the best cook, but you know I could
- 0:15Speaker 1: whip up a good case Todia. So I'm making a
- 0:18Speaker 1: cause to dilla with pepper jack, cheese, butter and tapatio.
- 0:24Speaker 1: So where'd you learn this? Um? Just like I think
- 0:28Speaker 1: I learned it from being a friends houses honest weeping,
- 0:31Speaker 1: because like I grew up here in l A and
- 0:33Speaker 1: like I had a lot of messan friends and like, yeah,
- 0:36Speaker 1: I just kind of like the afternoon snack. Yes, it
- 0:40Speaker 1: was like, hey, we're going over to Sarah's house. I
- 0:43Speaker 1: have a lot of a lot of different friends growing up.
- 0:44Speaker 1: But yeah, let's see here. You need this graded. So
- 0:49Speaker 1: I do the grocery shopping for the show, and no,
- 0:53Speaker 1: sounds crazy here. I don't want to. Oh I'm not
- 0:58Speaker 1: even gonna be shredded. So I didn't know. Do you
- 1:00Speaker 1: want me to like help shredd? Yeah? Can't you? Because
- 1:02Speaker 1: I'm not like good at at using the shredder. Okay, yeah,
- 1:07Speaker 1: I'm gonna I would just cut it and put like
- 1:08Speaker 1: little slams if he right on there? You know, yeah,
- 1:12Speaker 1: I was. I was like, where's the pepper jack shredded cheese?
- 1:18Speaker 1: You know? So tell me how did you get your
- 1:21Speaker 1: big break? Like, oh, it's such a long story, but
- 1:26Speaker 1: really I got I guess you have to say. I
- 1:28Speaker 1: got my break through my MySpace music page. Yeah. So
- 1:34Speaker 1: I basically started like wrapping and singing when I was
- 1:36Speaker 1: a teenager, and then I made my Space being page,
- 1:40Speaker 1: and uh, from that page, that's how I met robbed
- 1:42Speaker 1: your deck, So that page? Yes, what did he like
- 1:46Speaker 1: my space too? Like it's such a it's such a
- 1:49Speaker 1: long story, like I basically met his cousin. Let me
- 1:52Speaker 1: make sure I'm not burning this one on. How hot
- 1:54Speaker 1: is it? I'm just keeping on low for right now.
- 1:59Speaker 1: That's plenty of cheese for I think, just to start
- 2:05Speaker 1: places like it looks good. Yeah. So yeah, And I
- 2:13Speaker 1: used my mindspace to like just like network and like
- 2:16Speaker 1: I wouldn't sit there adding people all day long. And
- 2:19Speaker 1: one of the people I added was Rob's cousin, Drama.
- 2:23Speaker 1: And then I became friends with like Drama and like
- 2:26Speaker 1: his boys, and I then met Rob through them and
- 2:32Speaker 1: it's a long yeah, it's a it's a really long story,
- 2:35Speaker 1: but like I'm trying to make it shut um. And
- 2:37Speaker 1: like they had heard about me, like because I was
- 2:39Speaker 1: already pursuing rapping, and like everybody, I think kind of
- 2:42Speaker 1: like thought it was funny. I was just like little
- 2:43Speaker 1: white girl who wrapped. They were probably like, who what
- 2:46Speaker 1: does she? Like? They thought I was crazy, I think, um,
- 2:50Speaker 1: and so yeah, they told Rob about me, and pretty
- 2:53Speaker 1: much that's how it happened. Yeah, and then I asked,
- 2:57Speaker 1: like I asked Rob to come to one of my shows.
- 3:01Speaker 1: I had some my little show where you have to
- 3:02Speaker 1: like sell your own tickets to perform, and like I
- 3:05Speaker 1: get these I would get these those shows on my
- 3:07Speaker 1: crickslist and ship just so I could like try to
- 3:08Speaker 1: perform somewhere. And basically, uh, I asked for all to
- 3:14Speaker 1: come to a show one day and he was like, oh,
- 3:15Speaker 1: I can't make it, but he was like, UM, did
- 3:19Speaker 1: you want um, I want to put you on an
- 3:21Speaker 1: episode of my new show. And so I was like, okay,
- 3:24Speaker 1: like let's do that a su yeah yeah, and so
- 3:28Speaker 1: uh so then I went to go do one episode
- 3:30Speaker 1: and that was my first day of Fantasy Factory. Now
- 3:34Speaker 1: that the landscape for women rappers is way more competitive. Um,
- 3:39Speaker 1: and I'm not sure if you're still signed a Young
- 3:41Speaker 1: Money are you know, I'm independent, But that's a whole
- 3:45Speaker 1: long story. I was never like officially signed. I was
- 3:48Speaker 1: like Young Money by affiliation, and Wayne like gave me
- 3:52Speaker 1: the co signers. Oh ship, that's a big pepper. I
- 3:57Speaker 1: was like, what's the cheese anyways? Um? Yeah, so Wayne
- 4:01Speaker 1: gave me the Coast sign and then there was just
- 4:02Speaker 1: all these complications with my deal getting done and it
- 4:04Speaker 1: was held up forever, and I kept getting all these
- 4:06Speaker 1: excuses from like the lawyers and my old management, and
- 4:11Speaker 1: I don't know. It was just like I guess not
- 4:14Speaker 1: the right timing or whatever. But like me and Wayne
- 4:16Speaker 1: are still cool. Um. But yeah, I'm independent. I like
- 4:19Speaker 1: fully fund everything I do and like make all my
- 4:22Speaker 1: own decisions and all that. That's awesome. And there's a
- 4:25Speaker 1: lot of like behind the scenes that you have to
- 4:28Speaker 1: deal with, especially with like cash fill right, I would imagine,
- 4:32Speaker 1: oh yeah, like in the pandemic. That made it even
- 4:34Speaker 1: harder because normally like as an independent artist, it's it's
- 4:39Speaker 1: actually I mean, I love it because I don't have
- 4:42Speaker 1: to um pay anybody back, you know what I mean.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Like when I do these gigs, the money goes in
- 4:46Speaker 1: my pocket like or that, you know, my my agents,
- 4:49Speaker 1: whoever books the gig or whatever. But um yeah, when
- 4:53Speaker 1: you're with the label, they get a huge piece of
- 4:54Speaker 1: everything you do. And so uh, I feel that I'm
- 4:59Speaker 1: really smart with how much I spend and how much
- 5:01Speaker 1: I make back, like you know what I mean. So
- 5:04Speaker 1: during the pandemic, that's when it got a little hard
- 5:05Speaker 1: because it was like I wanted to put out my
- 5:07Speaker 1: album that year. I'm like, this is a great year
- 5:10Speaker 1: to put out music. You know, people are at home,
- 5:11Speaker 1: all lives are like ready, you know, so it's like,
- 5:15Speaker 1: this is a great time to put out music. But
- 5:17Speaker 1: um uh, there was no gigs. So I'm putting all
- 5:22Speaker 1: this money into videos and photo shoots and studios time
- 5:26Speaker 1: and you know stuff like that, and and so I
- 5:28Speaker 1: had to invest a lot and then I wasn't able
- 5:31Speaker 1: to make as much back. So now I'm like trying
- 5:33Speaker 1: to because you were releasing it even through the pandemic. Yeah,
- 5:36Speaker 1: oh that's yeah, that's a tricky situation. Yeah, because I
- 5:39Speaker 1: realized the pandemic was a good time to put out music,
- 5:41Speaker 1: especially because people who were signed to labels were a
- 5:43Speaker 1: little bit held up, probably because things were shut down.
- 5:46Speaker 1: So I'm like, okay, I'm independent, nobody's good to be back.
- 5:49Speaker 1: I need to drop this now while everybody's at home
- 5:52Speaker 1: like needing new content. Um So it was a good
- 5:55Speaker 1: time to invest in myself. I feel like and invest
- 5:58Speaker 1: in my music just now I got to recoup and
- 6:01Speaker 1: and like get all these gigs and get the money back,
- 6:04Speaker 1: you know. So that's a lot of like behind the
- 6:07Speaker 1: scenes business stuff. Now. Was there ever a point in
- 6:10Speaker 1: your career where you're like, that's it. I may just
- 6:13Speaker 1: tap out, Like, um, I wouldn't say, I Like, there's
- 6:19Speaker 1: been times where I'm like, I don't want to pursue
- 6:23Speaker 1: I will always make music as a hobby, like that's
- 6:26Speaker 1: just what I do. Like I've been writing poetry making
- 6:28Speaker 1: little songs since I was a kid, like for fun,
- 6:30Speaker 1: Like that's just what I do. It's like what I
- 6:32Speaker 1: do when I'm board, Like it's my hobby. Um but
- 6:36Speaker 1: there was a part a part of me that at
- 6:37Speaker 1: one point I was like, I don't want to pursue
- 6:40Speaker 1: this and keep putting money into this, you know, like
- 6:42Speaker 1: make songs for fun, maybe just put them out on SoundCloud,
- 6:45Speaker 1: like who cares? You know what I mean, not even
- 6:47Speaker 1: try type thing. There was a time when I started
- 6:50Speaker 1: to feel like that, and I was like I should
- 6:51Speaker 1: invest all my money into real estate and do other
- 6:55Speaker 1: business ventures. And I'm like, no, you know what, I
- 6:58Speaker 1: can still invest in real estate, still do other things,
- 7:00Speaker 1: and still invest in my music. There's there's a time
- 7:04Speaker 1: and place for everything, you know. So it's just um
- 7:07Speaker 1: about spacing it all out the right way, you know
- 7:09Speaker 1: what I mean? And you still take ridiculousness yep, NonStop, NonStop,
- 7:14Speaker 1: Like what does your schedules look like? Yes, like we
- 7:16Speaker 1: filed six episodes a day, three days the leaks, so
- 7:19Speaker 1: like yesterday I did six episodes. Tomorrow I do six episodes,
- 7:23Speaker 1: and then um next and then I'm off for two
- 7:26Speaker 1: weeks and then we go back to filming again. And
- 7:29Speaker 1: now you don't film all years, like two weeks out
- 7:31Speaker 1: the year or three weeks. No, we film all year,
- 7:33Speaker 1: no way, Like it's like I'm off two weeks, then
- 7:37Speaker 1: I filmed two weeks, and I'm off two weeks. And
- 7:39Speaker 1: I filmed two weeks and I'm off two weeks, which Um,
- 7:42Speaker 1: for trying to travel anywhere abroad not easy. I've basically
- 7:46Speaker 1: never been fucking anywhere. But yeah, because it's like I
- 7:49Speaker 1: want to when I finally travel, I want to travel
- 7:52Speaker 1: and like be able to see Europe and all these
- 7:54Speaker 1: places like I want to go over like two days. Yeah,
- 7:57Speaker 1: and now with COVID and getting tests to go to
- 7:59Speaker 1: all these different trees and like, you know, yeah, it's
- 8:02Speaker 1: a lot. So where have you traveled so far in
- 8:04Speaker 1: my life? Mexico, Scotland, the Philippines, Spain. Colin sounds interesting.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Colin was interested. It looked real old. There was castles everywhere,
- 8:15Speaker 1: like yeah, like literally there's like all these castles that
- 8:18Speaker 1: you can rent on like Airbnb, Like they're literally like
- 8:21Speaker 1: literally little castles. But a lot of them don't have
- 8:23Speaker 1: a lectricities. But yeah, their streets are like all cobblestone.
- 8:27Speaker 1: It looks like you're, you know, like in the past. Yeah.
- 8:31Speaker 1: And so in the industry, as far as girls, do
- 8:34Speaker 1: you feel like the women supports you? Um, I definitely
- 8:38Speaker 1: have a lot of like women artist friends. Do all
- 8:42Speaker 1: of them know? Yeah? No, you know, I think it's
- 8:45Speaker 1: really important as a woman artist to support other women artists,
- 8:49Speaker 1: and there are some that are just a little bit
- 8:51Speaker 1: more catty and that are more competitive and like whatever,
- 8:55Speaker 1: Like that's cool. They can be like that, you know.
- 8:58Speaker 1: So like everybody has their own personality. Yeah, yeah, So
- 9:02Speaker 1: where do you want to go next from here? Definitely?
- 9:05Speaker 1: I mean, I just I'm at a point in my life,
- 9:08Speaker 1: especially after the pandemic, where I think just being healthy
- 9:12Speaker 1: and happy are the two most important things. And healthy
- 9:17Speaker 1: I mean like physically and mentally, you know what I mean,
- 9:20Speaker 1: Like like those are the two most important things to
- 9:22Speaker 1: me at this point. So I don't want to do
- 9:24Speaker 1: anything that's gonna like make me stressed out or give
- 9:28Speaker 1: me anxiety or like I get anxiety real easy. So
- 9:31Speaker 1: like it's like it's you know, it's just a point
- 9:34Speaker 1: in my life where it's like it's not worth the
- 9:35Speaker 1: extra stress. I'm gonna keep making music, I'm gonna keep
- 9:38Speaker 1: doing me, but I'm not gonna like overly stressed about
- 9:41Speaker 1: things like I like I used to, And I'm just
- 9:44Speaker 1: kind of like going with the flow. Now. Did you
- 9:46Speaker 1: go through any type of depression during the pandemic or
- 9:49Speaker 1: were you like just really it was more anxiety than depression,
- 9:54Speaker 1: because I feel like I used the time wisely, and
- 9:56Speaker 1: I liked having that time off. I was like, Okay,
- 9:58Speaker 1: this is great to have this time to like really
- 10:00Speaker 1: focused on my craft. And like, you know, I was like,
- 10:04Speaker 1: we couldn't get nails done for like three months, so
- 10:06Speaker 1: I used to play violins. So while I didn't have
- 10:07Speaker 1: my crilics, I was like, let me just get on
- 10:09Speaker 1: the violin again. I was about these nails. As soon
- 10:13Speaker 1: as the nails a lotto back up, I was like, oh,
- 10:14Speaker 1: put the violet. But yeah, you know that it was
- 10:18Speaker 1: funny to use that time and and I didn't get
- 10:21Speaker 1: really depressed, but I did get a little bit of
- 10:23Speaker 1: anxiety because I like to be around people and and I,
- 10:27Speaker 1: you know, I just felt like I was just like
- 10:28Speaker 1: in my house so much that I started to go
- 10:30Speaker 1: a little bit crazy. You don't have any like friends,
- 10:34Speaker 1: secret get togethers oh we got a few, okay. Now,
- 10:37Speaker 1: in the beginning of the pandemic when everything first started,
- 10:39Speaker 1: were you like, I don't know if I believe this
- 10:41Speaker 1: or were you one of those people that were like
- 10:42Speaker 1: I believe in a PC. I went through I went
- 10:45Speaker 1: through my phases, I went through my face. The first
- 10:48Speaker 1: couple of weeks, I was like cleaning door knobs like.
- 10:51Speaker 1: I was like, literally, like so scared. I was like,
- 10:54Speaker 1: this is like the zombie apocalypse or something. I was
- 10:56Speaker 1: one of those people I did like horn toilet paper.
- 10:58Speaker 1: I was like, no, you're tewed up like, I was like,
- 11:04Speaker 1: this is the womb the list. I didn't know what
- 11:06Speaker 1: the hell was going on, and um and I had
- 11:08Speaker 1: so I'm pretty sure I had COVID before the lockdown,
- 11:12Speaker 1: and so I had had it like a month before
- 11:14Speaker 1: that made it through it. It was like I thought
- 11:16Speaker 1: I was gonna die though, And so once the lockdown
- 11:19Speaker 1: happened and I knew what was going on, I was
- 11:21Speaker 1: like like I felt like I was a liability or
- 11:23Speaker 1: something too. I was like I gotta stay inside. Like
- 11:26Speaker 1: I feel like I was a super spread when I
- 11:28Speaker 1: had it, because I'm one of those people that work
- 11:30Speaker 1: through being sick. So when I had it, it was
- 11:33Speaker 1: a weird sickness. It went through like a couple of phases.
- 11:35Speaker 1: So I went to a video shoot. I went to
- 11:37Speaker 1: a photo shoot, Like did you tape ridiculousness? No, I
- 11:41Speaker 1: didn't take ridiculousness until I was gonna say, hey, guys,
- 11:44Speaker 1: if you got sick, you know, But like a couple
- 11:47Speaker 1: of people from the video shoot I did and from
- 11:48Speaker 1: the photo shoot had got sick, and so they told
- 11:51Speaker 1: me later when I told him, I said, yeah, I
- 11:52Speaker 1: think I had it around them. They're like, girl, a
- 11:55Speaker 1: couple of people got sick after that. You I think
- 11:57Speaker 1: you were spreading it. And so so I definitely was
- 12:00Speaker 1: like at the beginning of the pandemic, like super on lockdown,
- 12:04Speaker 1: like and then I'm not gonna lie. I heard this
- 12:06Speaker 1: Burger King commercial and that should tripped me out and
- 12:10Speaker 1: I was like brainwashed us. I was like there, so
- 12:14Speaker 1: I'm cleaning my house and I hear on the Burger
- 12:16Speaker 1: King commercial they go, America needs you to stay on
- 12:20Speaker 1: your couch. I was like, what, Okay, stay inside that's
- 12:25Speaker 1: one thing. Keep your social distance that's another thing. Stay
- 12:27Speaker 1: on your couch. Those lines hit me hard because I'm like,
- 12:31Speaker 1: I'm like, you know, I might have relaxed a little
- 12:34Speaker 1: bit during the pandemic, but I was still staying busy,
- 12:36Speaker 1: staying on my grind like he's this time and I'm like,
- 12:38Speaker 1: stay on the couch. And I was like, m there's
- 12:41Speaker 1: something going on. They're trying to keep us at home
- 12:43Speaker 1: and keep us lazy, like I was like they're trying
- 12:46Speaker 1: to make us sick. It's a Burger Key commercial saying
- 12:48Speaker 1: stay on your couch, you know. Like so I don't know,
- 12:51Speaker 1: I just started being like, okay, maybe this is like
- 12:54Speaker 1: some weird thing to like I don't know, like I'm
- 12:57Speaker 1: you know, not a conspiracy theories. But I was just
- 12:59Speaker 1: like I just started questioning things, you know, and um,
- 13:03Speaker 1: I also just was like that looks good. Yeah, I
- 13:06Speaker 1: think it's done. Good. Feed me now, feed me chanel Um. Yeah,
- 13:11Speaker 1: you know, I went through my phases. I went through
- 13:13Speaker 1: my phases. Awesome, it looks so good. I definitely made
- 13:17Speaker 1: sure to stay healthy and like you worked out a lot,
- 13:20Speaker 1: worked out a lot. I was juicing, taking vitamins. I
- 13:23Speaker 1: was following like all the rules. Um. I get tested
- 13:27Speaker 1: a lot for work too, so it's like I constantly
- 13:29Speaker 1: no negative, you know, like we're getting tested when we
- 13:32Speaker 1: film like every like forty eight hours. So yeah, I
- 13:35Speaker 1: went through the pandemic and I thought I was gonna
- 13:39Speaker 1: survive not catching COVID, and then I randomly took my
- 13:42Speaker 1: cousin in um who like many went through like a breakup.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Yeah that's all I'm doing. I'm not bold, I'm crazy,
- 13:51Speaker 1: I know. Oh my gosh, like is it it's not
- 13:56Speaker 1: hot hot? Oh jeez, Well if you end up going
- 14:00Speaker 1: up on the show, just you know, I mean laugh.
- 14:02Speaker 1: I'm one of those people like if you get hurt,
- 14:05Speaker 1: I'm laughing. That's fine, Okay, keep going on. But yeah,
- 14:11Speaker 1: I had called COVID and I knew me really because
- 14:15Speaker 1: there was like body aches and fever and just I
- 14:19Speaker 1: started having all these symptoms and I was like, oh,
- 14:21Speaker 1: I can't believe I called it. And my cousin at
- 14:24Speaker 1: the time was like, you don't have it. And I
- 14:26Speaker 1: was like, dude, you need to get tested because he
- 14:27Speaker 1: came in sick. And then I tested positive and I
- 14:30Speaker 1: was like oh. And I was apart from my husband
- 14:33Speaker 1: at the time. I'm like I didn't see him for
- 14:35Speaker 1: a month and now I got to go longer. That sucks.
- 14:38Speaker 1: And I was like counting down the days so I
- 14:39Speaker 1: can be uh COVID free, you know. But um, when
- 14:45Speaker 1: it first happened, I thought, like the economy. I was like,
- 14:47Speaker 1: there's no way they can lock down all these businesses
- 14:49Speaker 1: and all this stuff. I was actually shocked at that
- 14:52Speaker 1: was possible. Obviously it failed history, you know, because apparently
- 14:55Speaker 1: in history they did it again? You know, all of
- 14:57Speaker 1: a sudden you were researching when the pandemic like this
- 15:00Speaker 1: ever happened before. Yeah, yeah, it's happened. Yeah yeah. But
- 15:05Speaker 1: I didn't really take it serious until like my money
- 15:08Speaker 1: started to disappear and I was like, okay, can I
- 15:13Speaker 1: get a job somewhere? No, it's like that's that's another thing. Yeah,
- 15:18Speaker 1: it's been hard to see. Like, I see it's good.
- 15:21Speaker 1: You like it, Thank you, Thank you for feeding me.
- 15:25Speaker 1: On the topic, it's like hot, but I don't know
- 15:29Speaker 1: if it's the cheese that's hot or the tap of
- 15:30Speaker 1: to you you mean it's hot. Yeah, sorry, I really
- 15:37Speaker 1: like spicy stuff. I'm probably over here like dripping capaccio.
- 15:44Speaker 1: So have you had like men just do some ridiculously
- 15:47Speaker 1: over the top stuffhen you're trying to get business done
- 15:49Speaker 1: or trying to push you around like um, like even
- 15:52Speaker 1: for me and as a woman in business, like sometimes
- 15:55Speaker 1: you have to for lack of better word, like become
- 15:57Speaker 1: a bit just to get some kind of respect to
- 15:59Speaker 1: get a job done. And it's like you have to
- 16:03Speaker 1: turn all the way up because they think yourself. Do
- 16:05Speaker 1: you have to deal with that a lot? Or um,
- 16:09Speaker 1: let's just say that I've never like I've always been
- 16:13Speaker 1: like a tomboy too, so I've had like a lot
- 16:15Speaker 1: of guy friends, like I've never until I was like
- 16:20Speaker 1: twenty five, I didn't really like notice sexism. I didn't
- 16:23Speaker 1: like to see it was a thing. And then things
- 16:24Speaker 1: started to occur to me like oh, that's sexist, all
- 16:28Speaker 1: that's sexist and like and then once I started to
- 16:31Speaker 1: realize that I was experiencing things like that, it started
- 16:35Speaker 1: to build up. You know. Like I'm good at like
- 16:38Speaker 1: I'm good at like maneuvering through the business and like
- 16:41Speaker 1: keeping my mouth shut when I need to do whatever,
- 16:43Speaker 1: but there has been times where I've had to really
- 16:46Speaker 1: speak up and and be like the situation sexist. And yeah,
- 16:53Speaker 1: it's it's not easy to do that, you know, especially
- 16:56Speaker 1: because it's like I've heard people be like, oh, this
- 16:59Speaker 1: person they are crazy about a guy, like you know
- 17:02Speaker 1: that the celebrity or whatever. But but that's that's how
- 17:04Speaker 1: he like, you know, you know, like that's like how
- 17:07Speaker 1: he makes the magic happen or something. And it's like, okay,
- 17:09Speaker 1: but if a girl were to act crazy like that,
- 17:11Speaker 1: they call her a diva, you know what I mean.
- 17:13Speaker 1: But um, so like that I think that there's like
- 17:16Speaker 1: these double standards and I don't know, I have had
- 17:20Speaker 1: to kind of find my voice to speak up a
- 17:21Speaker 1: couple of times, like yeah, that's that's I think a
- 17:25Speaker 1: difficult balance for a woman a name with the me too,
- 17:28Speaker 1: a movement they it was, it was, it is great.
- 17:33Speaker 1: But then there's also like always a catch to every
- 17:37Speaker 1: great thing where it's like we don't want to abuse
- 17:41Speaker 1: the power either. But then again, I think guys are
- 17:45Speaker 1: now terrified to so you've been like, look at a
- 17:49Speaker 1: girl's but or something. They're like, I don't want to
- 17:51Speaker 1: compliment you. Is it okay? No? No, literally there is
- 17:54Speaker 1: people like that and I'm like, yeah, it's fine, Like
- 17:56Speaker 1: I don't mind somebody telling me. I looked pretty like yeah,
- 17:59Speaker 1: you know that's was not weird about it, like sniffing
- 18:02Speaker 1: my ear at the same time or something like what
- 18:06Speaker 1: was like something you invested in that or that didn't
- 18:09Speaker 1: pan out the way you wanted and you felt that hit.
- 18:14Speaker 1: I had won a little venture I started with my
- 18:17Speaker 1: friend and really we both had high hopes. You know,
- 18:22Speaker 1: she's just not a single mom. She's a mom with
- 18:25Speaker 1: two kids, and she has a nine to five job
- 18:27Speaker 1: and I'm really busy myself. But we had wanted to
- 18:31Speaker 1: start like a jewelry line, and we invested some time
- 18:35Speaker 1: and money into it, and it just it didn't pan out.
- 18:38Speaker 1: But I think it's because we we really both didn't
- 18:41Speaker 1: have the time that each of us needed to put
- 18:43Speaker 1: into it, you know. And that was one that was
- 18:46Speaker 1: one thing that did like not really pan out. It
- 18:49Speaker 1: kind of failed. But um, from that, I learned, okay
- 18:53Speaker 1: with the next thing I start. After that. The next
- 18:55Speaker 1: thing I did start was my clothing line, L Cartel,
- 18:57Speaker 1: and that's done much better and I didn't the same mistakes.
- 19:01Speaker 1: And you know, do you think time is more important
- 19:04Speaker 1: than money when it comes to business? Um? What do
- 19:08Speaker 1: you mean exactly? Like, do you like you were saying,
- 19:12Speaker 1: like when you and your friend did this, you guys invested,
- 19:15Speaker 1: but you didn't really have the time to invest into it.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Do you think your time is more important than the
- 19:21Speaker 1: actual capital that you put in? Yeah? Well, time is
- 19:24Speaker 1: definitely important. It doesn't matter how much money you have
- 19:26Speaker 1: if you're not going to take the time to do
- 19:29Speaker 1: what you have to do to promote it or to
- 19:31Speaker 1: send the packages out when people make the orders. You know,
- 19:34Speaker 1: So there's got to be the follow up. You know
- 19:37Speaker 1: what I'm saying. Um so, yeah, so it's important to
- 19:40Speaker 1: have the right team and the right structure around you
- 19:42Speaker 1: when you're starting a business like that. And that's what
- 19:45Speaker 1: I realized, and I've told her too, for if for
- 19:48Speaker 1: the future, if we start another thing together, like we
- 19:50Speaker 1: just need to make sure we have more hands on
- 19:52Speaker 1: deck instead of trying to take on so much ourselves.
- 19:55Speaker 1: But we don't have the time for it, you know. Yeah,
- 19:58Speaker 1: but I think it's cool that you guys did do
- 20:01Speaker 1: you kind of did learn that lesson because sometimes people
- 20:05Speaker 1: look at like celebrities are you know, and they say, oh,
- 20:08Speaker 1: well you're rich, you have this huge, big team And no, right, No,
- 20:13Speaker 1: I didn't come from any big team. Like I was
- 20:15Speaker 1: like telling, um, I throw his name was like, I
- 20:18Speaker 1: who walked me in here? What's his name? I was
- 20:20Speaker 1: telling Drew, were just walking in here? I was like, yo,
- 20:22Speaker 1: I said, we were kids and said we used to know,
- 20:24Speaker 1: like you don't get caught shop lifting? It sity mall?
- 20:28Speaker 1: Why because it was just easier here like the other malls. Like, oh,
- 20:32Speaker 1: you mean you just don't get caught here? Yeah, Like
- 20:35Speaker 1: here's like an easy place to like as a kid,
- 20:37Speaker 1: I don't steal anymore. Obviously that would be great. I'm
- 20:40Speaker 1: not wondering a writer. Okay, that would be crazy if
- 20:43Speaker 1: I was still unger steal. But as a kid though,
- 20:48Speaker 1: like you know, we we don't. Me and my friends,
- 20:50Speaker 1: we were all like broke kids and a lot of
- 20:52Speaker 1: single parents, and you know, as kids to you want things,
- 20:55Speaker 1: there's like let me steal a shirt or whatever. Like
- 20:58Speaker 1: so like we were a little bit of like little
- 21:00Speaker 1: badasses with your kids. Um. But yeah, so like I
- 21:03Speaker 1: don't come from nothing, the same with my friends, and
- 21:05Speaker 1: that's why I wanted to start that with my friend Roxy,
- 21:07Speaker 1: because you know, like we all started from the bottom
- 21:10Speaker 1: and come from nothing, and I really do, like you know,
- 21:13Speaker 1: even um with projects I'm working on now that are
- 21:16Speaker 1: still in the works, Like I want to see like
- 21:19Speaker 1: my girl Danielle, who's here with me, that's been my
- 21:20Speaker 1: homies since high school too, Like you know, I wanna, yeah,
- 21:23Speaker 1: I want to do I want to put on like
- 21:25Speaker 1: whatever real friends, And that's also been a challenge, is
- 21:29Speaker 1: figuring out who's real and who's not. But all my real,
- 21:33Speaker 1: genuine friends, like I want to be able to help
- 21:35Speaker 1: them in any way. I can like, you know, like
- 21:37Speaker 1: if they have a dream and like there's some way
- 21:39Speaker 1: I could help, Like I want to help them. You know.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Did you ever have any real friends switch up on you? Yes?
- 21:45Speaker 1: And when you when I say switched up, Like, do
- 21:47Speaker 1: they become weird after you make it? Or do you
- 21:50Speaker 1: think they're just all of a sudden there like opportunity opportunity,
- 21:53Speaker 1: Like how does it look? Uh, it's it's uh, it's crazy,
- 21:58Speaker 1: like it's happened over the past year and a half. Actually,
- 22:01Speaker 1: it's like I've been like I feel like I've just
- 22:03Speaker 1: been cutting people off left and right, like split into
- 22:05Speaker 1: like like just like out of here. Um. Really, what
- 22:09Speaker 1: it is is like I think that they like. The
- 22:14Speaker 1: craziest thing is people tell me I don't support them
- 22:16Speaker 1: enough for something like and I'm like what more to like?
- 22:19Speaker 1: It's like I like, if I see the picture, I
- 22:21Speaker 1: like it, you know what I'm saying, Like, if I
- 22:23Speaker 1: saw it, I like this, Like it takes five seconds
- 22:25Speaker 1: to like. I'm a very giving liker when it comes
- 22:27Speaker 1: to the likes, you know, so in my opinion, if
- 22:30Speaker 1: I if I'm liking or commenting, ever like that support
- 22:33Speaker 1: you know, I can't sit here and like hold your
- 22:36Speaker 1: hand and like, you know, it's like you, I don't
- 22:39Speaker 1: even want to get into it because I don't know
- 22:41Speaker 1: actually want to you and be like, hey, did you
- 22:43Speaker 1: like this? No, Just like people just saying that I
- 22:46Speaker 1: haven't supported them enough for something, and it's like I'm
- 22:48Speaker 1: a very supportive friend. I've let people live with me
- 22:51Speaker 1: for free and like you know, done lots of nice
- 22:54Speaker 1: things for people, and somehow still I feel like it's
- 22:57Speaker 1: not enough. People want more, They want you to do
- 22:59Speaker 1: more for the of And then also like just people
- 23:01Speaker 1: trying to say like things about you that aren't true,
- 23:05Speaker 1: which is the craziest thing I've dealt with. I never
- 23:07Speaker 1: thought that people that I couldn't be friends with like
- 23:09Speaker 1: since childhood could start saying just like things about your
- 23:13Speaker 1: character and stuff that like are not true. And I'm like, yo,
- 23:17Speaker 1: this is getting out of hand, like to like your
- 23:19Speaker 1: other friends, just the other yeah, mutual friends, you know.
- 23:21Speaker 1: L A is a small world like that, Like it's
- 23:24Speaker 1: very like it's it's so funny how spread out it
- 23:27Speaker 1: is here, but then like things travel so fast here.
- 23:30Speaker 1: I think it's even worse, like into New York and
- 23:33Speaker 1: New York it's like you're on the small little freaking
- 23:35Speaker 1: island and like and there's boroughs and they're all close.
- 23:37Speaker 1: It's so close together, but things still spread like that
- 23:39Speaker 1: they're here, it's so spread out, like we're you know,
- 23:44Speaker 1: Ella is a big city and things travel fast here
- 23:47Speaker 1: and people I've I've heard just like that's why I
- 23:49Speaker 1: started cutting people off. I heard this person said that,
- 23:52Speaker 1: Like what do you call him out there? And You're like, hey,
- 23:54Speaker 1: did you say it? No? Yes? Or yeah, like double down,
- 23:57Speaker 1: like yeah, I said it. It's it's just crazy, and
- 24:00Speaker 1: I'm like, you know, I didn't think people could just
- 24:03Speaker 1: like it's like kind of delusional, like they're in their
- 24:06Speaker 1: head thinking things that are not true, you know what
- 24:09Speaker 1: I mean. Like, so that's that's where I'm at, Like
- 24:13Speaker 1: it is like I'm just trying to figure out who's
- 24:15Speaker 1: real and who's not. And I definitely have some really good,
- 24:17Speaker 1: genuine girlfriends, like who've been there since day one and
- 24:20Speaker 1: guy friends, um, but there's been a couple of people
- 24:22Speaker 1: who are like just bad scenes that I had to
- 24:24Speaker 1: get rid of. Yeah, I've gone through some of that recently.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Even with family. Sometimes family X switches up and that's
- 24:38Speaker 1: difficult because you know, and I think a part of
- 24:41Speaker 1: maturing it is like figuring out how to set those
- 24:46Speaker 1: boundaries and when to set them and not feel bad
- 24:48Speaker 1: about them, Like do you ever feel bad afterwards? Like, man,
- 24:52Speaker 1: I feel so bad a little, a little, but also
- 24:56Speaker 1: like like I said, I'm at that point where it's
- 24:58Speaker 1: like I just want to be happy and healthy and
- 25:02Speaker 1: mentally healthy and whatever is gonna be good for my
- 25:05Speaker 1: mental wellness, That's what I have to do, and you know,
- 25:11Speaker 1: it is what it is. I always wonder like if
- 25:14Speaker 1: I send a DM to someone like I really you know,
- 25:17Speaker 1: like there's some entrepreneurs online. I'm like, hey, you know what,
- 25:20Speaker 1: do you want to come check out eating? Of course
- 25:22Speaker 1: it's a weird thing to say, but I was wondering
- 25:25Speaker 1: if they're actually reading it or some people do, you know.
- 25:29Speaker 1: I mean I can't read everything, especially because Instagram, which
- 25:32Speaker 1: like I don't know somebody who works for them is
- 25:34Speaker 1: watching this. But my d ms do this weird thing
- 25:37Speaker 1: where like, for example, will be like a million messages
- 25:40Speaker 1: from from an hour ago, two hours ago, three hours ago,
- 25:43Speaker 1: for and then all of a sudden, after seven hours ago,
- 25:45Speaker 1: it jumps to like three days ago, and I'm like
- 25:47Speaker 1: where the messages go that whole time. You know. So
- 25:50Speaker 1: I lose a lot of messages and I don't know why.
- 25:52Speaker 1: It's this like weird Instagram error. So I because once
- 25:56Speaker 1: I noticed that, I started checking them even more because
- 25:58Speaker 1: I'm like, well, dang, I guess I gotta check my
- 26:00Speaker 1: to just NonStop just to catch things, you know. Um.
- 26:03Speaker 1: So so once I noticed that, now I check it
- 26:05Speaker 1: even more. But I didn't used to check it that much.
- 26:08Speaker 1: I would just try to do like a quick scroll through.
- 26:10Speaker 1: If I see a couple of nice ones, repost them,
- 26:12Speaker 1: or you know, try to reply to a couple of
- 26:14Speaker 1: nice ones and you see maybe anybody popping with a
- 26:17Speaker 1: blue check stry side of my decos. I am looking
- 26:21Speaker 1: for a husband, you know, so occasionally I check. But
- 26:25Speaker 1: like so you think if you would consider someone like
- 26:27Speaker 1: a guy that slid into your d M. It depends
- 26:29Speaker 1: who it is. And yes, there's been a lot of
- 26:34Speaker 1: crazy so that I had to be like, no, I'm
- 26:35Speaker 1: not gonna give a chance. What advice would you give
- 26:38Speaker 1: to someone that is trying to pursue the entertainment industry?
- 26:41Speaker 1: Like knowing everything you've been through, the ups the downs,
- 26:45Speaker 1: what keeps you on track? Like what advice would you
- 26:47Speaker 1: have you clung to the number will No, I went
- 26:51Speaker 1: to the number one thing. I mean, there's definitely a
- 26:53Speaker 1: few things, but say them all. First of all, I
- 26:56Speaker 1: would say it's important to never get ahead of yourself
- 26:59Speaker 1: and think like you're such a superstar that you don't
- 27:01Speaker 1: need a regular job. That's number one. I agree with that.
- 27:06Speaker 1: I feel like a lot of people and that's like
- 27:08Speaker 1: a couple of these friends who switched up, you know,
- 27:10Speaker 1: maybe made some weird comments like oh, well, you know
- 27:13Speaker 1: you have everything handed to you. What Then I'm like, oh,
- 27:16Speaker 1: you met Rob and there was like I'm like I
- 27:19Speaker 1: sat there on my Space adding people all day long.
- 27:21Speaker 1: That's how that's got me to Rob. You know what
- 27:23Speaker 1: I'm saying, And it's like, you know, people just like anyways,
- 27:29Speaker 1: I just got I got lost in my thought again
- 27:30Speaker 1: because I just got something about agree with the day
- 27:33Speaker 1: job thing. Like a lot of like while we're doing
- 27:35Speaker 1: eating while broke, a lot of people don't know this,
- 27:37Speaker 1: Like I have a day job, I have my side hustle,
- 27:40Speaker 1: and then I have this And I'm sure when this
- 27:43Speaker 1: comes out, people are gonna be like, Okay, let's just
- 27:46Speaker 1: fell out this guy. It's like, no, I still have
- 27:48Speaker 1: some money. Yeah, still trying to manage all this Yeah no,
- 27:51Speaker 1: And people don't realize you like you can't. Like I
- 27:54Speaker 1: always worked hard, Like when I was in season two
- 27:56Speaker 1: Fantasy Factory, it was a lot of filming and MTV
- 28:02Speaker 1: did not pay that well. Like it was like almost
- 28:04Speaker 1: like you know, these hours and this money, this doesn't
- 28:07Speaker 1: add up. I was like, this is crazy. So I
- 28:09Speaker 1: had to get a part time job and like and
- 28:14Speaker 1: that's also one of the first things that I was like, Okay,
- 28:17Speaker 1: I think I'm getting famous or something, because like I'd
- 28:19Speaker 1: be at work holding T shirts at a clothing store
- 28:22Speaker 1: and can I get a picture with you? And I'm like,
- 28:24Speaker 1: look at my boss and like can I can I
- 28:26Speaker 1: take a picture of whatever? Boss? Like one day he's
- 28:30Speaker 1: like he's like, you know, Chandelle, He's like, I think
- 28:33Speaker 1: you're like getting kind of popular, like maybe you should
- 28:35Speaker 1: like do some other things or something. He's like, I
- 28:37Speaker 1: don't think you belong in like the clothing store. And
- 28:39Speaker 1: I was like, but I need this money, like I'm
- 28:41Speaker 1: trying to get money, like you know. So like no
- 28:43Speaker 1: matter what, I always was like I always even sometimes
- 28:48Speaker 1: now I'm like there'll be days or too often I'm like, damn,
- 28:50Speaker 1: I wish I had some sort of hustle. I was like,
- 28:52Speaker 1: maybe I should my real estate license, like you know,
- 28:54Speaker 1: like it's just like I like to work and I
- 28:56Speaker 1: like to hustle, and I think that, um that sometimes
- 28:59Speaker 1: people don't think, oh, there's such a star that they
- 29:01Speaker 1: that they don't have to like work, and they think like, oh,
- 29:04Speaker 1: maybe I'm so talented or I'm so cute. You know
- 29:06Speaker 1: that I don't have to work. And you should never
- 29:08Speaker 1: be like that. You should always you always got to
- 29:11Speaker 1: put in this. You got to match the work with
- 29:15Speaker 1: with your talent and with your cuteness. And you know
- 29:17Speaker 1: what I'm saying. Um, I think a lot of people
- 29:20Speaker 1: get ahead of themselves. I've seen it. That's the advice
- 29:21Speaker 1: I give to like a lot of my young friends
- 29:23Speaker 1: I see coming up in Hollywood, Like they get a following.
- 29:26Speaker 1: The next thing, you know, they're like, no job, like
- 29:28Speaker 1: just like and I'm like, yo, like keep us a
- 29:31Speaker 1: little day job, keep a side thing. Like you still
- 29:33Speaker 1: need money, yes, save up some money and like have
- 29:36Speaker 1: like a little bit of a foundation just in case
- 29:38Speaker 1: something doesn't work out, you know, like yeah, especially here
- 29:42Speaker 1: in l A people really get ahead of there's they
- 29:44Speaker 1: do fast. There's just they get one gig or something.
- 29:47Speaker 1: They're like off to the whatever land. What's your second piece?
- 29:50Speaker 1: Because I know you said you had to Oh yeah, wait, okay,
- 29:53Speaker 1: we'll take it back. What was the question against? It
- 29:55Speaker 1: was like knowing everything that you had. Um. I would
- 30:01Speaker 1: also say that if you want to be in this industry,
- 30:05Speaker 1: you have to have thick skin. You gotta be tough.
- 30:09Speaker 1: Like it's like I are I always knew like getting
- 30:12Speaker 1: into this, Like I knew before I even had like
- 30:15Speaker 1: the online hater and stuff. I'm like, like that job
- 30:18Speaker 1: comes with craziness, you know what I mean, Like even
- 30:20Speaker 1: just from like when you know, like when we were
- 30:22Speaker 1: younger seeing all the stuff and like TMZ and the
- 30:24Speaker 1: media was like like Lindsay Lohan and like Britney Spear,
- 30:28Speaker 1: all these people like you know, paparazzi constantly following them
- 30:31Speaker 1: and attacking them, Like you have to be ready for that,
- 30:34Speaker 1: like and you can't. You can't be soft, Like even
- 30:38Speaker 1: a couple of times I've seen certain celebrities like complain
- 30:41Speaker 1: about and I have to myself, you know, like I
- 30:43Speaker 1: get it. But that's why I told try to hold
- 30:47Speaker 1: myself back as much as I can by talking about
- 30:48Speaker 1: the haters. It's like, yo, I signed up for this,
- 30:50Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. Like, so it's like you
- 30:53Speaker 1: gotta just you gotta have thick skin. And yeah, I
- 30:57Speaker 1: think it goes back to the ignoring the haters thing,
- 30:59Speaker 1: being to ignore all the hate and just stay focused. Yeah.
- 31:03Speaker 1: I had. I have a couple of influencers that are friends.
- 31:06Speaker 1: But one time I was hanging out and they were
- 31:08Speaker 1: showing me the d MS of hatred and it's like,
- 31:10Speaker 1: kill yourself when I see you, I'm gonna kill you.
- 31:12Speaker 1: And it's like people DM this and there's dead serious,
- 31:16Speaker 1: and you know, the influencers like jokes back, like so
- 31:19Speaker 1: what'd you eat today? You know? Yeah, yeah, Yeah, that's
- 31:24Speaker 1: the funniest when you reply like that. Yeah. And then
- 31:27Speaker 1: the guy was just clearly getting more upset, and I
- 31:29Speaker 1: just could not believe like that was a regular thing,
- 31:32Speaker 1: Like how mean and vicious they are, Like you don't
- 31:35Speaker 1: they don't know what kind of day you're having when
- 31:37Speaker 1: they're doing this. I also thought his response was probably
- 31:41Speaker 1: in furiating him even more. Yeah, but yeah, so those two,
- 31:45Speaker 1: is there any other one? I mean, there's so many
- 31:48Speaker 1: tips I could give people, Um, Like I think the
- 31:51Speaker 1: first two are yeah, those are those are two solid ones,
- 31:55Speaker 1: um and then another thing too, Like I mean I've
- 31:57Speaker 1: definitely said I just slided people's d ms. So, like,
- 32:00Speaker 1: you gotta do things in a strategic way. You don't
- 32:03Speaker 1: want to ever be annoying. You don't want to be crazy.
- 32:07Speaker 1: Like if you make a connection with somebody that's like
- 32:10Speaker 1: more famous than you, like be very careful with that connection,
- 32:14Speaker 1: you know, like don't bug that person, don't blow them up.
- 32:17Speaker 1: I think that's why Rob asked me to be on
- 32:19Speaker 1: a show. Like I had this guy's number for months.
- 32:21Speaker 1: I didn't I didn't annoy the funk out of him,
- 32:23Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Like like I think that,
- 32:27Speaker 1: and then there's there's other situations to where like from
- 32:30Speaker 1: artists I've worked with, you know, like like I got
- 32:33Speaker 1: their number, I waited for a while to hit them up,
- 32:36Speaker 1: and then I was like, what's what a feature? You
- 32:39Speaker 1: know what I mean? Like you've got to like approach
- 32:41Speaker 1: people the right way, and sometimes people can be overbearing
- 32:45Speaker 1: and annoying, and those those people scare me away. You know.
- 32:47Speaker 1: Also it's like you can't be blowing people up, like
- 32:51Speaker 1: you've got to like you gotta just like, uh, we
- 32:55Speaker 1: have a category of ridiculousness. Other day it's called read
- 32:57Speaker 1: the room. You gotta be able to read the room.
- 32:58Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, Like you to be able
- 33:00Speaker 1: to like does this person like that I'm texting them
- 33:03Speaker 1: this or you know what I'm saying, like like paying
- 33:05Speaker 1: attention to people's body language and or responses via text
- 33:09Speaker 1: and like don't just don't be annoying because like I've
- 33:12Speaker 1: seen so many people hurt their careers by being this annoying,
- 33:18Speaker 1: like to the point where people were like, don't let
- 33:20Speaker 1: them in the party, Like all they're always like they're
- 33:22Speaker 1: so annoying, they're always trying to get in everything that
- 33:24Speaker 1: it does, like you don't want to be known as
- 33:25Speaker 1: that person, Like you gotta slide in the right way
- 33:27Speaker 1: side and don't just to paggyback off that. I remember
- 33:32Speaker 1: this one girl she was hanging out with like our
- 33:35Speaker 1: group and some of them are very successful, but she
- 33:38Speaker 1: would write like a tent page essay through Instagram of
- 33:42Speaker 1: her life story and it was like random and it
- 33:47Speaker 1: was like clearly she was working out stuff. But it
- 33:49Speaker 1: also freaked people out because it was like, we just happened.
- 33:54Speaker 1: You were you were kicking with us, you were in
- 33:56Speaker 1: the room, you were friends with all of you know this,
- 33:58Speaker 1: but just scared us at open Yeah, where did the
- 34:03Speaker 1: life story come from? Funny? But thank you so much
- 34:07Speaker 1: for feeding me. Oh my mess of the Eating Wall
- 34:10Speaker 1: Broke table, I definitely made a mess. I'm the worst
- 34:12Speaker 1: and I'm not even gonna lie. Like I was trying
- 34:14Speaker 1: to be polite and like saved some on my plate,
- 34:17Speaker 1: but I really wanted to know. I want to finish.
- 34:20Speaker 1: We were just talking so much. I was like, I
- 34:22Speaker 1: don't want to be like spitting out tapazeo, Like yeah, yeah,
- 34:25Speaker 1: So thank you Chanel West Coast for feeding us and
