- 0:44Doctor Who commentary podcast with me, Luke Malloy.
- 0:49And that my beautiful friends handsome.
- 0:51Joe Ford and witty moorcroft from the to watch who podcast, a
- 0:56threesome of podcast for your ears today.
- 1:00Hello. Wow.
- 1:01Mauro is also his porn names. How are you?
- 1:08Just threw Compliments are so happy days.
- 1:10I really thought you were taking the piss out of daguerreotype.
- 1:12So then July This is yours if you go.
- 1:19Hi. Well on this episode, we're
- 1:21going to be covering part 2 of the talents of Wang qiang and
- 1:24absolutely fantastic story. Fantastic episode with laughs
- 1:29and merriment along the way. Shall we get into it?
- 1:34Guys are. So what is that?
- 1:35You want to say anything? Let's go straight into it.
- 1:39Okay, I'm ready, 15. So what I'm not on a mine.
- 1:49Get to the point so, quickly. In many a year, I'll tell you,
- 1:53I've got ping pong at to of a nice.
- 1:56That is, in fact, a euphemism. Can we go back to Google speak a
- 2:03minute? Because I've looked up there is
- 2:06a whole history of ghoul online. There was a short story of how
- 2:10serious the ghouls. So after she found the body in
- 2:16talents Wing, Cho Chang, Few years later she visited darkover
- 2:21house. Look for scraps, in the bins,
- 2:22only to get a glimpse of the living, snowmen laying Siege to
- 2:26the house. She then bore witness to the
- 2:28Fatal fall of a girl Clara, oh no way, I've accepted in that
- 2:34it's like a seesaw or Clara died.
- 2:39I love it in 1893. She visited her sister in
- 2:43Yorkshire and found another body.
- 2:45This time a man whose skin had turned blister I dread the
- 2:49Crimson. Oh, yes,
- 3:04Clarence. DeMarco men, stopped by herself
- 3:09and attempted to charge her with a message to the dust car
- 3:12Theory. This is like the doctor Donna.
- 3:14The doctor Patsy was busy in series 7 bewitching.
- 3:18She helps out Jago like for a bit.
- 3:20She does come to a sad end though.
- 3:23When in 1898 she saw the Tyrannosaurus Rex in the River
- 3:26Thames. She was then confronted with the
- 3:29half face man who told her she had nice skin and invited her to
- 3:33eat at the the family restaurant.
- 3:35I'm not being funny but surely that's the one thing she
- 3:38wouldn't have nice. See, somewhat lock your
- 3:43monsters. How they managed to weave?
- 3:45Elton Pope through the continuity series 1?
- 3:48Is that the same with pets? A short story and magazine?
- 4:01Apparently that would wouldn't it?
- 4:06There we go. Yeah, it's there.
- 4:08Anything more Doctor Who and that?
- 4:10Like a mud lock for 10 seconds in the talents of Wang qiang.
- 4:18Could be either. What is that?
- 4:20The joy of toxic really is. I feel like there's a ton of
- 4:23characters that hasn't been done to.
- 4:26Someone could be listen to this now make their business work,
- 4:28that's very bubbly. Every story can have some guest
- 4:31characters can have their own series or I would like to write
- 4:33stories. Got this story comes out the 10
- 4:38and he's doing his trousers up. I would like to write his entire
- 4:41life history up to that point obviously died, since he can't
- 4:43write. But yeah, that's the one.
- 4:44We'll see. Davis often quotes, isn't it?
- 4:46It's like the sea. Seen birth, like, he based his
- 4:51Doctor Who on. So bringing monsters to normal
- 4:55people, I'm sorry. Yeah, I'm sexy people.
- 4:59Yeah. Well, before that the ghoul
- 5:02actually, the girl had all of that.
- 5:03All the monsters came to work. She was just having a holiday in
- 5:06Yorkshire. I don't really I don't mind you
- 5:09on this but you know, audio Christ that that's just wasn't
- 5:13for me. You know, I'd say exactly to you
- 5:15to what Joe just said to Casey you know because It's very
- 5:18pretty, boys. I say go and boys, make sure you
- 5:21don't get mistaken for one of those girls.
- 5:23All right, on the way. Okay, what's the current?
- 5:27I'll go back to actually what's happening on this is because the
- 5:32girls have been going missing at the theater on Monday because
- 5:35Chang's been sort of taken them. So that Magnus Grill can Feast
- 5:39on them. That's basically the idea that's
- 5:41leaning into Jack. The Ripper, yeah heavily.
- 5:44Now, worry about, Jake owes lungs, you know, he's always got
- 5:47a bloody cigar on The go they still live.
- 5:49There is no curse of Benjamin. Yeah, yeah.
- 5:52I'm a few years ago is really nice.
- 5:54I'd love to me. It was brilliant.
- 5:55Yeah. Well, I like I like him in all
- 5:58this whose stories, I think he's great and Inferno.
- 6:00In fact if gold. Yeah.
- 6:04And it's a very different sort of character and I love him and
- 6:06unicorn and the WASP was that the doubled.
- 6:09A dream is fantastic. It really goes mafeking is
- 6:13looking for really snap out of it.
- 6:21The effect here on Chang's voice.
- 6:22Yes. But again, a bit at remember in
- 6:25Planet of evil with no trying to do light on the eyelids
- 6:28possession or yeah, I love the part of everyone.
- 6:31I think this one might be no pain of Evil's better.
- 6:34Yeah. Planet people.
- 6:35Is that actually, the tip was wrong.
- 6:37But I appreciate Blu-ray effects on this on.
- 6:40I don't like I don't like it. Yeah, I mean fair enough with
- 6:43the rap but the eyes are fine when you touch the answer.
- 6:47I mean, There's very few special effects in Avoca.
- 6:51This isn't it. There's the the eyes coming out
- 6:53of the Dragon later on. I think there's a gust, isn't
- 6:56there that Magnus Grill? Has?
- 6:58Yeah. And this the red sort of Talons
- 7:01in that convert chamber. Yeah.
- 7:03Like that was dead. Like old leaves were far from it
- 7:11but I think the worst part it's not worse because it's not
- 7:15really bad but you said it on To watch you as well.
- 7:18Mark, when Magnus Grill comes into is probably the least
- 7:21interesting part of talents of long time because Chang is such
- 7:25a compelling character, that then he saw gets put to one side
- 7:29and we have magnets Greeley's. What is it guy in a mask?
- 7:31Doesn't mean they're joining. Their Dynamics are really
- 7:33interesting, so he's interesting and then check dies and in these
- 7:36just basically a ranting villainously.
- 7:37Yeah. And even at that point mr.
- 7:39Soon as well more interesting because he's on the dragon,
- 7:42laughing his head off. Yeah yeah existed gag.
- 7:48I think it is true that they were thinking, this would be the
- 7:50decayed Master one point and apparently sort of like leftover
- 7:56bits in the screen is obviously the time cabinet would have been
- 7:59his Tardis. Oh my and when granny said
- 8:02something about the Regeneration energy and stuff from the women
- 8:05would be, that makes so much sense.
- 8:07Things that still left a price on those and Rewritten aside
- 8:10that's the case, I'm sure that that big finish range where they
- 8:14like, take the really crap. First drafts.
- 8:18And make a worse version of a story that almost verbatim to
- 8:21the same Return of the Cybermen there.
- 8:23Why featuring slaves daughter and use it for me?
- 8:29I'm listen to. It isn't even that great anyway.
- 8:33You don't want another brush, whatever you want.
- 8:45Well that's a waste of Tom Baker, I think they should be
- 8:47on. Certain trait in I'm doing
- 8:49decent neutron star of you. A waste of something.
- 8:54I would not want to be putting out, merchandiser Unitas into
- 8:57I'm tellin, ya. You're fucking scathing the pair
- 8:59of. Yeah, yeah, but I think you
- 9:02stuff well II can't be skating with things, but I really
- 9:04complementary when it's cool to think who are in fact, you are,
- 9:07although I just think you was wrong about that first, it
- 9:11wasn't one dollar Universe. The only all the Androids?
- 9:15Are we love that? Yeah.
- 9:15Oh yeah, that is the aisle. It's the only episode of Dark
- 9:19Universe. I don't like exploring really
- 9:21boring and either one, you know, the one at the end where it was
- 9:24Sarah kingdoms, our kingdom was her name and your kingdom
- 9:28learning about a sister and I love that one as well.
- 9:30That's really so the one with the mechanoids.
- 9:32No, no. It's the one where there is sort
- 9:34of this weird space. Oh, The Lost.
- 9:36Yeah, yeah, that that was actually better the second time
- 9:40around. I was working triang, can I say
- 9:47Too much every single line that comes out of Leela's mouth is
- 9:50gold. It's great.
- 9:51Yeah, that how much they leaned into that Professor Higgins,
- 9:55Pygmalion teacher-student relationship and it's never
- 10:00stronger than it is here and it's the perfect setting for it
- 10:03as well. Hey Gary, its last terrifically,
- 10:06like any potential that was there in our character is
- 10:10realized here. Yeah, and that's why the way to
- 10:13go in there after the hits while probably.
- 10:15Yeah, that's probably why. So, he's 15 does feel a bit.
- 10:18Back stuff. We look at this she's going to
- 10:22like we always talked to strike under the breast bone.
- 10:25Yeah, yeah. Like that she's great in horror
- 10:29of fang Rock in the same way as well.
- 10:30Maybe it's those historical settings that it works better
- 10:34rather than that in. She's on another sort of
- 10:36futuristic setting on us. Well, suppose because there are
- 10:40like traditions and values in the historicals that you can
- 10:44play on that a lot more cardio with someone.
- 10:46He doesn't understand how to To act in them situations but it's
- 10:49still clever but it's in the future stories.
- 10:52It seems like she just becomes a bit stupid.
- 10:54Yeah, she keeps her intelligence in the historicals terror, six
- 10:58highlights. Her against Adelaide.
- 11:00In horror fact. Let's so brilliantly, which is
- 11:05loves around. The face is hilarious easily the
- 11:08best bit, but in this, she has absolute agency and she just
- 11:14dashes off after one of the girls to the she and then she
- 11:17follows the process. Me too, Magnus grills layer and
- 11:21this, you chase you attack seemed.
- 11:22I've been faced with me. She's doing all this on our own
- 11:25without their words as she's not scared of death.
- 11:28And that's something we haven't really had in the companion
- 11:30before because they will be humanoids.
- 11:33You know, it's a certain extent was well she is human but you
- 11:36know what I mean? She's like, she's not scared of
- 11:39death but she's a warrior and so that's like all this stuff
- 11:43that's going on. She's probably killed tons.
- 11:45More people than like dang it. Anyway, you know, lifetime, so
- 11:51it's normal for her about what she says about was here.
- 11:55I shall not bleed. I'll hunt you down in the great
- 11:58Hereafter bed face. And yes, I actually a thousand
- 12:02times she's and this light Lila and Lightfoot what a parent and
- 12:09their I think they're my favorite big finish stories
- 12:12which are going right foot as well when leader gets thrown in
- 12:14there because you just get it all over again.
- 12:17Gonna wake up. Say that their things together
- 12:19are some of the best things in Classico.
- 12:22The, they talk to argue Dynamics when it's just that the dinner
- 12:26table when she picks up the me and then he picks up the meat
- 12:29because he's got manners. Yes, I just think is beautiful,
- 12:34and that's where will complement Robert Holmes?
- 12:36I mean, he just finds the most funniest and interesting and
- 12:40intelligent things to do with the two characters.
- 12:44And I think similarly because that's contrasted against the
- 12:49doctor and Jago in this episode where Joe goes all Bluff and no
- 12:54smiles and the door all intelligence own to B where he's
- 12:59coming in pretending. He's going to do a rehearsal,
- 13:02isn't it? He was he says I I do start with
- 13:06a live goldfish. Yes.
- 13:12Hey, why are you making fire in your mouth?
- 13:15Is that good, but you got a lot of life is history there as
- 13:18well. He talks about coming back from
- 13:20Peking, his relationship with his father and it doesn't feel
- 13:24like gibber's Exposition. It feels very light like a real,
- 13:30a lot of backstory. Yeah, yeah.
- 13:33I mean, that's the sort of stuff you pick up on a bit later in.
- 13:36Like, when I watch this, I don't think I love this.
- 13:39When I was, when I first watched, it would have been
- 13:41around 1011 when them DVDs were coming out.
- 13:44Out the day release, the big ones first.
- 13:46This is one of the early ones and I knew I knew at that age
- 13:50that talents was meant to be one of the best ones ever.
- 13:54And I think, at that age, I like the magic and I like the stuff
- 13:57on the stage but I didn't really get the rich dialogue in the
- 14:00rich sort of thing. And then you see you come back
- 14:03to a bit old and you can appreciate it more and
- 14:05especially when you see the rest of classic Doctor Who it really
- 14:08sticks out is being wonderful. Was like, I don't know, 10
- 14:12resurrection of the Daleks The best piece of television on ever
- 14:15seen in my life. Now, what it was bangs and
- 14:18whistles. Oh yeah.
- 14:19No, it's not think it backwards. I mean is the only one that
- 14:24stood up like that. I've been out.
- 14:25What's remembrance of the Daleks very early as a kid and I
- 14:28thought that was amazing. It was banging, it was literally
- 14:31that, but I'll come back to it now and it's still exactly the
- 14:33same. It's still, are these.
- 14:36The time controller has been disabled what your imminent, Say
- 14:44shocks. I was so expecting that the
- 14:47black garlic controller to be down Frost when it is the little
- 14:50girl, the first time you watch that.
- 14:52Oh my God. Wonderful, you are a slave.
- 14:55Luke, you were born to sound. The Daleks, I've not watched it
- 15:01in years. I need to watch that guy.
- 15:03Also, we'll secure it in telephony, trying.
- 15:04Sorry. I think he's just made the joke
- 15:07about the golfer or it's cool. Yes.
- 15:11Because I'm money spider. To see that Magnus kill can grow
- 15:15things, which explains the rat? Yeah, they didn't.
- 15:19It's it's not covered very in much detail.
- 15:22Is it? That's not.
- 15:23Yeah, well easy. It is just to make an excuse
- 15:25yourself that I just have the right.
- 15:27Yeah. It probably thinking Wallace
- 15:29Doctor. Who story on?
- 15:30I'm old style. Got a monster in there somewhere
- 15:32remote or just throwing a big rat.
- 15:33Yeah yeah I mean rats are it's good I'll stick.
- 15:38Yeah. Nasty vile I wasn't episode do
- 15:40much the other day. Right?
- 15:41I'm doing this podcast soon about to watch.
- 15:43Yeah. Love it.
- 15:45I've heard of it. I don't really know what it is,
- 15:46but it looks awful. It's like this, is this fabulous
- 15:54about these psychotic rats that been given super intelligence
- 16:00and these five hundred rats are let loose in the sewers and
- 16:02they're going up people's toilets and emerging everybody,
- 16:04right? And they start is detroiter
- 16:07playing the wrap party, right? Very funny sequence where
- 16:14Obviously I've got animatronics in the 70s so just so the rats
- 16:18on the people's legs, they're running around the set go.
- 16:21Yeah. But there was a thing about it
- 16:25because there was a new Avengers episode as well could nors, and
- 16:28that was about a giant rat. So there was a thing about scary
- 16:31rats in the 70s. Yeah.
- 16:32Well, they all file. Aren't they?
- 16:34You want? Yeah, like Wild Ones.
- 16:37Yeah, I think there are they the most cleanest creatures.
- 16:40We associate them with being dubbed bollocks.
- 16:42Other people say, it's about pigs.
- 16:44As well. I how, can they be the same
- 16:47Peppa Pig and what about the ship?
- 17:02Did you get that? Because I didn't subscribe to
- 17:13that point but Like, I bought that one because I wanted that
- 17:16poster so bad. Notice bit in a minute.
- 17:18Where he chases Magnus Grill? All around the theater one is
- 17:24brilliantly directed. Yes.
- 17:26Who is using the location excellently but if that's the
- 17:31Phantom of the Opera there. Oh yeah.
- 17:33Absolutely yeah. Obviously the face reveal part 5
- 17:39but I think like we set the scene now and it's really rich.
- 17:42They feel like that but that That burst of energy with that
- 17:46chases is, is needed at this point.
- 17:48Yeah, I think, I think you I was fun a bit boring on my hours of
- 17:52ever chased. Now, the story sort of stopped
- 17:54for a minute. Nah, you know what it as a kid.
- 17:57Thank you. The way oh, I love it.
- 18:17Mark is right though, that the Android Invasion it is better
- 18:20than the brain of morbius, a events of Mars.
- 18:22So yes, it was recording at last night when we know which one the
- 18:29Android evasion. We're going again.
- 18:31First time we did it. He didn't talk.
- 18:33Now I can't go home. It's so good in media and these
- 18:39cab scenes, isn't it? There is a well occasion were
- 18:43real. Will is out and about with them
- 18:45that is Grill. Isn't it out about?
- 18:46Yeah, I would say he should sort of stay as the Phantom, in the
- 18:50basement, he's off wandering around.
- 18:51Why does he, why can't he get on, with, doing everything else
- 18:54knowing if he's, alright to go off around doing it all?
- 18:57Why don't you let go of the try on a lattice does it?
- 19:00That's why? Because it's very delicate.
- 19:02We suggest rock is most alive. They leave it behind.
- 19:05You might think that Chang's a bit clumsy, but I guess I always
- 19:08thought was weird that he comes along with them because that's
- 19:10never thought about it. But, I mean, he's look, he's
- 19:13like he is weak. The so that it's just come on.
- 19:16Maybe he's not about to go in and do it himself is no, it's
- 19:19just, it's just pop it out because he's bored.
- 19:22Drippy face is all over the place for fella.
- 19:25You write about the action Luke because there's bursts of action
- 19:29throughout this. You get the whole sequence in
- 19:31the layer. When Lila goes down there, you
- 19:33get the in the sewer with the rat.
- 19:36Yeah. For obviously this whole bit
- 19:39here, there's a bit at the end of this episode is know where
- 19:41sin comes in and she's out the window.
- 19:44Next episode. What's a stunt?
- 19:47It is Grace. That's true.
- 19:48It fell isn't. It was very happy because you
- 19:49got to wear Louise. Jameson's Costco is Jameson
- 19:53because its all full of Puffs and Frills, you know.
- 19:55Yeah I think I see Mark Point. Like it does stop the story but
- 20:01I think he got remember that as a kid there's only so much sort
- 20:05of store you can say I'm the kids watching it will warn
- 20:08action. Yeah you got pad on the 6 part
- 20:11as well the end of the day it's probably The least padded six
- 20:15partner. Well actually, it feels like the
- 20:17least part of it. Anyway.
- 20:18Yeah, just because everything is of such a good quality.
- 20:23Yeah. I think I think all the stuff
- 20:25between Jo Lightfoot in episode 5 is technically padding is just
- 20:29talking but it's so well-written, who cares?
- 20:32Yeah, exactly. But it's new because they
- 20:33they're only just meeting so it's not like we've had that
- 20:35already. It's yeah, it's meant to be
- 20:38entertainment, isn't it? Doesn't really doesn't matter.
- 20:40If it's padding as long as it's entertaining, I see.
- 20:44So funny consider yourself announce our?
- 20:46I like to put laughing. It's all right.
- 20:49I'll stop quoting soon. I won't speak about Magnus
- 20:54Grill. Have any of us?
- 20:55Heard the Butcher of Brisbane Aram being finished.
- 20:58He is a prequel or a sequel, stoplight, you no more.
- 21:02No, it's not. And this, the turlough me is
- 21:07real in the 51st Century, the sadly, I've got it.
- 21:12I don't think it's hardly my Favorite artists to that?
- 21:15I've got to say the word. The Butcher of Brisbane.
- 21:17You think he's gone round and murdered loads of people, but
- 21:20actually, just the butcher. No, no, he's a mass murderer,
- 21:35has Hometown, it goes wrong, and they end up in 51st Century
- 21:41Brisbane. I suppose, I think.
- 21:43That is a very strong audio, right?
- 21:46Of every now and again, he just brings us, he's hit and miss.
- 21:48But is it hits are like high? I'll guard.
- 21:52Yeah. And he creates such visual
- 21:54worlds like that is easily strength.
- 21:56So yeah. So we've had what Jago doing his
- 22:00own thing outside of Talos had live videos.
- 22:05I think Magnus Grill, doing his own thing like has Casey had his
- 22:09own. He sure is interesting though
- 22:11because it's apparently just reading up on The real says that
- 22:17he's previously encountered a Time agent in the 51st century
- 22:20and that is the fifth doctor in this big finish story.
- 22:23I thought you going to say Jack Webb, Jack Harkness.
- 22:26So yeah, so the fifth doctor me real before this but that's the
- 22:30first time you hear the word time age.
- 22:32Yeah. If it does say is that whereas
- 22:34take it from this story? Yeah, it does.
- 22:35Yeah, I do, I do love it when they take little references and
- 22:40then in insert into the new series and then adds As oh yeah.
- 22:44I mean and honestly the best case of that, my favorite
- 22:48reference ever is the sense fear with the Ood sphere.
- 22:52I mean it just makes so much sense and it's just a lovely
