- 0:13Jay Fallon, thank you for listening to The Slippery Slope.
- 0:15So I wanted to talk about two separate articles that have come
- 0:19up now. The first ones to do with
- 0:22voluntary assisted dying. And I've seen a lot of these
- 0:26different puff pieces come up. I call them puff pieces because
- 0:30they're always, they're always cast from the, the point of view
- 0:34that you know, this is, it's peaceful, such a beautiful,
- 0:39loving way to go. You get to choose your own way
- 0:44to die. You get to choose the time and
- 0:47the place and the way. You don't have to go through any
- 0:51pain, no discomfort. You get to choose everything and
- 0:57it's, it seems strange to me how we're we're sold, we sold these
- 1:03these ideals of of death and how you get to choose all of these
- 1:08things now. And it's not lost to me also
- 1:11about when they come about selling the sale of abortions as
- 1:17well. It's all about choosing about
- 1:20your choice. Hey, you know, are you really
- 1:23ready to be a mother? You know, it's, it's your
- 1:25choice. If this isn't, if this isn't the
- 1:28time, if this isn't convenient, well, you know, you get to
- 1:32choose. Let's not talk about the, the,
- 1:34the child that gets lost or anything like that.
- 1:36Let's not talk about the, the pain, the agony, the, the
- 1:40killing of a human being. You get to choose.
- 1:43This is choice. It's all make you comfortable.
- 1:47But anyway, I just want to read through this article first.
- 1:51So wife of Brisbane doctor David Levitt tells how her husband
- 1:55ended his life through voluntary assisted dying.
- 1:59I had the video come up. I didn't want to exert, you
- 2:02know, the videos your typical. It's very, very comforting.
- 2:06It's from the, the, the wife's point of view and, you know, he
- 2:10gets to choose this and it's very, he found out that he had a
- 2:14brain tumour. He came back and just said,
- 2:16bang, this is what's going to happen.
- 2:19He got to choose it. He died in her arms and she was
- 2:23laying head on his chest and heard his heartbeat stopping.
- 2:27And it's a lovely time anyway. Pauline McGrath put a head on
- 2:32her shoulder on her husband's chest as he drank the lethal
- 2:36medicine that would end his life, safe and warm in his own
- 2:40bed. This is the way it's always
- 2:41sold. It's safe, warm.
- 2:43It's your choice. David Leavitt quickly drifted
- 2:47into a deep sleep and for the next half hour she listened
- 2:52intently until his heartbeat gradually fell silent.
- 2:56It was an incredibly quiet, peaceful time.
- 2:59The Brisbane woman reveals, as she tells the Sunday male, her
- 3:03great love took control of his death through voluntary assisted
- 3:08dying. It's all sold that you can take
- 3:11control. You have control of your
- 3:13destiny. You have control of your death.
- 3:15This is what they want to sell you.
- 3:17David was the director of General Pediatrist about
- 3:21paediatrics in dermatology at the Queensland Children's
- 3:25Hospital. He was diagnosed with a brain
- 3:27tumour in May 2022 and died in April 2023.
- 3:32In the first six months after VAD services became available to
- 3:37eligible. That's voluntary Assisted dying
- 3:40become eligible terminally ill Queenslanders.
- 3:42In January 20 and January 1, 2023, 245 people died from the
- 3:49administration of a voluntary assisted to dying substance.
- 3:53David was one of them. As a leading Queensland doctor,
- 3:56he was no stranger to death and dying.
- 3:58So when he received his devastating diagnosis, he
- 4:01instinctively knew that he would eventually die through voluntary
- 4:06assisted dying. David did not want to die in
- 4:11pain and it was important to him that he passed away peacefully
- 4:16in his own home, surrounded by his loving family.
- 4:20The VAD drug that would end his life was under lock and key in
- 4:24his inner city apartment, waiting for the day he was ready
- 4:27to let go. As a couple we had made clear
- 4:32decisions that in the case of grave illness we never wanted
- 4:36life saving interventions just for the sake of living.
- 4:39We had talked about that and he had very clear views, Pauline,
- 4:44who was also a healthcare worker, said when he was
- 4:46diagnosed with a can I even pronounce this properly,
- 4:50glioblastoma multiform at the age of 59, David I knew what
- 5:00kind of death that would bring. On the day he told me about the
- 5:03diagnosis, he said I have a brain tumour and voluntary
- 5:07assisted dying starts on January 1.
- 5:14The the reason why I want to talk about this before talking
- 5:17about this next step, the next article I want to go through, it
- 5:21seems to me we have lost our way here in Queensland, here in
- 5:27Australia, we we sell death really well.
- 5:34Our our governments, our bureaucrats sell, sell death.
- 5:38Sell the idea of dying, sell the idea of killing the unborn.
- 5:45We sell that idea, those ideas, those ideals really well, where
- 5:51we are all about our society now is all about killing.
- 5:57It's all about death. Hey, take control.
- 6:01Take control of everything in your life and even when things
- 6:05seem out of your out of control, instead of looking and thinking,
- 6:09well, you know, I really don't have control and these things
- 6:13are thrust upon us and what can I learn?
- 6:15Maybe looking outwardly and thinking, well, I am really not
- 6:19in control of my life and looking and thinking maybe there
- 6:23is a God, maybe searching for some for any an eternal answer.
- 6:29Now it's hey, you're still in control.
- 6:31You can still be in control, you can take drugs and you can
- 6:35decide when you want to die and have complete control and have
- 6:39peace. It's all sold as peace and
- 6:42having control over your life. You want to get an abortion or
- 6:46well, you've had sex, you're now pregnant.
- 6:48You didn't plan for it, you didn't really want it.
- 6:51The father doesn't want to be the baby daddy.
- 6:53You don't really want to be a mother.
- 6:55So hey, take control. It's all good all the way up
- 6:59till birth. Here in Queensland and even the
- 7:03rest of Australia, you can find an excuse to to support your
- 7:10reasoning to abort a child all the way up to birth all the way.
- 7:15We sell death and we're very supportive of death here in
- 7:21Queensland, here in Australia, but we're not supportive in my
- 7:27opinion of one another anymore, Not anymore.
- 7:31You know, the, the, the one who's down and out, the
- 7:34Australians who are having a hard time in life.
- 7:36The Australians who are struggling to, to find, to get
- 7:41food, to put food on the table, struggling to keep a job down,
- 7:45struggling to find housing. We're not supportive of them at
- 7:48all. We bring in an inordinate amount
- 7:51of new, new, new Australians, migrants.
- 7:57We bring in how many was it, 600,000 just the other year?
- 8:01Because you know, we'd be, we'd, we'd let the numbers dwindle a
- 8:04little because of COVID. So we had to pump the numbers
- 8:07up. We've brought in more new
- 8:09Australians, more people from overseas, enough to create a
- 8:12whole new little city. And yet all of us, all of our
- 8:16cities and most of their rural centres, all struggle to find
- 8:20accommodation for people, all struggle for housing.
- 8:23People are getting kicked out. The the rents are just sky high.
- 8:29House prices are ridiculous if you don't already own a house,
- 8:33but you're in trouble. And if you're renting, if you're
- 8:36in the rental market, you are fighting against sometimes just
- 8:40hundreds of other people looking, scrambling for the same
- 8:43property. But this is the country that we
- 8:46now live in where we don't support we we support death.
- 8:50We support you if you want to kill yourself.
- 8:53And the problem that I have with voluntary assist is dying other
- 8:56than I don't think suicide is the answer.
- 8:59I don't think it's right biblically, I don't think it's
- 9:01right. But also there's going to be
- 9:04there will be if there probably already has been and I I believe
- 9:08but there will definitely be times where there's going to be
- 9:11people who are Co coerced into taking their own lives. 100%
- 9:17that will happen. And I believe it already has
- 9:20happened or what's already happened overseas.
- 9:23Actually what had already happened in was a WA, an elderly
- 9:27lady, not sick at all, no cancer, nothing at all, but just
- 9:31decided they made a movie out of it, her and her her and her
- 9:35granddaughter about she just decided, well, she wanted to
- 9:38die. She didn't want to go past this
- 9:40age, but there was nothing physically wrong with her.
- 9:45Oh, I think it did. The story that was the last year
- 9:47the girl in in Europe who decided, hey, this is what's
- 9:51going to happen. And she's decided she wants to
- 9:52die as well. And they're going to use the
- 9:55same kind of services. You're going to have people who
- 10:00are not of the right mind, not mentally able or physically able
- 10:04to make these decisions. And they're going to be coerced
- 10:08into doing these things. So we, we are very supportive of
- 10:11death, very supportive of death. But mate, if you're, if you're
- 10:18someone who's homeless, yes, this story here, this story
- 10:24here, This is why I'm talking about this, OK, this story here.
- 10:26Queensland Council denies trying to make homelessness illegal as
- 10:32residents threatened with $8000 fines.
- 10:35So people living in tents at Sutton's Beach Beach Park,
- 10:39Redcliffe, forced to move to avoid fines for storing goods on
- 10:45public land. Public land.
- 10:48It's funny, funny how it's public land but they're allowed
- 10:51to fine you. A Brisbane council has issued
- 10:53compliance notices threatening fines of more than $8000 while
- 10:57implementing it. It's second homeless clearance
- 11:00in a day on Friday, Four of the approximately 8.
- 11:05It's only 8 people. 4 of the 8 homeless residents at Sutton's
- 11:09Beach Park in Redcliff were given just two days to vacate
- 11:12the area. City of Moreton Bay offices
- 11:15issued the compliance notices on Friday evening, alleged alleging
- 11:19they had violated the council ordinance by storing goods on
- 11:25public land. Isn't it, isn't it just good
- 11:27that people who are obviously down and out, people who are
- 11:32struggling in life, people who would need a bit of support,
- 11:35maybe a bit of encouragement, maybe a helping hand.
- 11:38What should we do? Well, we should kick the crap
- 11:41out of them while they're down. Obviously, that's what we should
- 11:44do. Well, they're, they're
- 11:46struggling. They don't have the money, they
- 11:47don't have the means to have to put a roof over their head.
- 11:51Well then of course we, we make things even harder and we find
- 11:55them. That's exactly what we should
- 11:57do. That's the Australian way.
- 11:58That's the Australian way now, isn't it?
- 12:01This is ridiculous. And this is you wonder why I
- 12:04cannot stand councils. I have been advocating.
- 12:07We need to get rid of councils. We don't need three different
- 12:11levels of government. We need to ditch councils.
- 12:16Gone anyway. Keep going.
- 12:20Do so. They must be out by midnight.
- 12:24I love it. They must be out by midnight.
- 12:26As if they're staying somewhere in no, no, this thing out under
- 12:30the stars. But they've got to, they've got
- 12:32to go. They can't just, they must be
- 12:35out by midnight on a Sunday or face large fines, according to
- 12:38the notices. Remember, they're homeless.
- 12:43Bo Haywood, the founder of local food charity Norwich St, said
- 12:47the goods the said the goods people were storing were all the
- 12:53possessions they owned and they didn't own any private land to
- 12:59store it on because they were homeless.
- 13:03That's the problem you get, you get caught up in this cycle, you
- 13:06don't have anything, you're homeless, you don't have the
- 13:09money to be able to get out of this.
- 13:10You don't have a job in a lot of these cases.
- 13:14And then someone comes in, just loads you up with a fine.
- 13:17It's it's like what used to happen.
- 13:18It used to happen with in policing, you know, they used to
- 13:22arrest people for drunk in a public place, even though some
- 13:27places might be bringing it back, but they got, they had
- 13:29enough common sense not to do it because you'd have drunks who
- 13:32are just constantly who just just a revolving door.
- 13:37They were just caught up in a cycle.
- 13:38They couldn't get themselves. They were Alcoholics anyway.
- 13:41So this is all they're doing. They're just making the cycle,
- 13:44creating a cycle and making it even worse, harder for these
- 13:47people. So he goes on to say this Beau
- 13:51Heywood says, I think they're trying to make homelessness
- 13:55illegal in Moreton Bay. A spokesperson for the city of
- 13:58Moreton Bay said they were not attempting to make homelessness
- 14:01illegal. Well, you are you've you've
- 14:05you've, you're issuing threats, threatening to issue massive
- 14:12fines that no one who most people would not be able to
- 14:17afford $8000 fine. So obviously you are trying to
- 14:22make it illegal. The notice warns failure to
- 14:25comply can attract a penalty between 5 and 50 penalty points
- 14:30worth between 806 dollars and $8065.
- 14:38Only a port court can impose fines greater than the lowest
- 14:42amounts. Well, it goes on a bit more all
- 14:47I'm one told me this, like I said this, it it seems like
- 14:52we're very supportive of people who of death.
- 14:56We encourage death, We encourage the killing of unborn children.
- 15:00We encourage people to take their own life.
- 15:03We love death in this country. We have got a reprobate mind.
- 15:07We cannot think properly. We do not think with any
- 15:10clarity. We're unable, I think our
- 15:12governments, our society is unable to think.
- 15:15We have embraced death completely.
- 15:18And where are the where? Where are the churches in the
- 15:22area who are out trying to help, talking to the local government
- 15:27coming up and say, hey, well, maybe there's something else we
- 15:30can do. I'm sure there's good churches
- 15:32down in that area. I'm sure there would be.
- 15:35Please can, can we do something? Can we?
- 15:37Shouldn't we be shining a light? Shouldn't we be the light on the
- 15:41hill saying, well, you know, maybe this isn't the right way
- 15:45to go chucking massive fines of people who are already down and
- 15:50out. And you know, a lot of the, a
- 15:52lot of the problem has been brought on by by our government
- 15:55who has allowed immigration to, to grow rampantly, just
- 16:01phenomenally. And, and our nation has not been
- 16:06able to support the sudden steep influx of people who've been
- 16:11coming into the country. That's why so many Australians,
- 16:15people who were actually born here have been struggling with
- 16:20homelessness. You know how many people I work
- 16:23in an industry where you make a lot of money, a lot of money.
- 16:26Like it's just ridiculous. The industry, I mean in, in
- 16:30mining and talking to a supervisor who I work with, he
- 16:35were he lives in quite a nice area, but he was saying it's
- 16:40funny because there's a not far away from him in a quasi caravan
- 16:46park. It is a caravan park but never
- 16:49used to be a real proper caravan park but it's turned into a
- 16:52caravan park now, he said. It's there's heaps of people
- 16:57living there, heaps of people have decided they're going to
- 16:59move up to this area. It's a great area to live.
- 17:02I don't blame people for moving there.
- 17:04The problem is there's not enough accommodation, there's
- 17:06not enough vacant houses, but yet people keep coming there, he
- 17:09said. A majority of these people that
- 17:11live in this quasi caravan park, they've taken up, they're
- 17:16working people, they're people with jobs, but they just cannot
- 17:20find a home. They've got no accommodation
- 17:24because our governments have decided that in order to keep
- 17:27pumping up our house prices and in order to keep pumping up our
- 17:31economy, because, you know, it's all just a big Ponzi scheme
- 17:35anyway, we just keep allowing, we keep bringing more people in.
- 17:38That's why we've got so many. And, and no offence to Chinese
- 17:41and Indians, but that's why we have so many Chinese and Indian
- 17:47people that have just arrived, taking over businesses living in
- 17:51the nation because their governments allowed it to
- 17:53happen. And at the same time they're
- 17:55pushing people out onto the streets.
- 17:58And then you have councils like the Flipping Moreton Bay Council
- 18:02down there who just go along and kick them in the guts even
- 18:05further while they're there and, and add fines onto these people.
- 18:09Instead of maybe trying to work with the community, work with
- 18:13church groups. Find another way to help people
- 18:16out who are struggling. Giving people a fine when you
- 18:21are down and out is not the way to go.
- 18:24But we have lost our ability. Like I said, do think clearly
- 18:29and to think with compassion and love.
- 18:33We just kick our own people when they're down.
- 18:39Reprobate mind. That is the mind of Australia
- 18:42and Queensland. We that that council is
- 18:46absolutely deplorable, absolutely deplorable.
- 18:51It's absolutely disgusting. But like I said, you know, we'll
- 18:54keep getting these little puff pieces about voluntary assisted
- 18:58dying and how wonderful that is. We'll keep getting nice little
- 19:01puff pieces about the poor soul who had to make the hard
- 19:05decision to abort her child even though she didn't really want
- 19:08to. And you know, she won't tell us
- 19:10about the $4200 that she got because, you know, she left the
- 19:14abort portion to a certain date. But you know, this is a hard
- 19:19decision and it's a sad story. Sad for her, even sadder for the
- 19:23child. But the homeless people are out
- 19:26in the streets. Screw them.
- 19:27Just kick him in the guts, give them a fine and move them on
- 19:30their way. That's the Australian way
- 19:32apparently. Now this is absolutely
- 19:35disgusting and this council needs a wake up call.
- 19:38And please, if there's any churches, people know, any
- 19:41church groups down there that can help in some way.
- 19:43I mean, surely even if it's something like, OK, these
- 19:46people, they're getting fined for their property.
- 19:50Can't, can't we find, I bet you there's vacant land or
- 19:53something, a vacant warehouse or something where people can just
- 19:57at least store their property. Something something to help?
- 20:03I'm not, you know, I've got to admit I'm not always out there
- 20:07helping the homeless or whatever.
- 20:09But like you cannot kick people well while they're down.
- 20:13You don't do that. I'm all for people helping
- 20:17themselves, working, pulling themselves up.
- 20:20But mate, you don't come along and just oh, you're down.
- 20:23You're down and out. You're having a hard time.
- 20:25Get this India and kick him in the head.
- 20:28You don't do that. You don't give him a fine.
- 20:34Anyway, that's enough of my rant.
- 20:36This is disgusting behaviour. That's the slippery slope that
- 20:40we're on. My name is still Jay Fallon.
- 20:42This is still the Slippery Slope podcast.
- 20:45I'm out. Thanks for listening.
- 20:46Let me know what you reckon They.
- 20:49Just
