- 1:39Speaker 3: Without further ado, I talk to two guys who have
- 1:42Speaker 3: been named some of the best networkers out in Hollywood.
- 1:45Speaker 3: These guys are both fantastic, and we talk a lot
- 1:47Speaker 3: about networking, getting you're foot in the door, meeting people
- 1:51Speaker 3: at parties. I mean not how do they attend parties,
- 1:54Speaker 3: but they also throw their own parties with guests are
- 1:59Speaker 3: Mom Broddi and Brandon Waits.
- 2:02Speaker 5: Yeah. Well, growing up, I always had a strong interest
- 2:05Speaker 5: in going to the movie theaters and watching movies, reading books,
- 2:08Speaker 5: and you know, in my own imagination created creating that
- 2:11Speaker 5: book within my own mind. And as I got older
- 2:14Speaker 5: into the military, a lot of our off time we
- 2:17Speaker 5: would watch movies. There's not much else to do, so
- 2:20Speaker 5: I started watching movies over and over and at a
- 2:23Speaker 5: certain point it's more like, Okay, what else can I
- 2:25Speaker 5: learn about this movie? So I started doing you know,
- 2:28Speaker 5: whether it's research or watching behind the scenes, and I
- 2:31Speaker 5: just got more and more interested within the filmmaking aspect, producing, directing,
- 2:37Speaker 5: all that. And while I was in the military, I
- 2:41Speaker 5: actually had the opportunity to do security for the guys
- 2:45Speaker 5: Michael Bay and his team for the Transformers movies, and
- 2:48Speaker 5: that just basically kind of reinforced my interests. I was like,
- 2:51Speaker 5: you know what, this is definitely what I want to do.
- 2:54Speaker 5: And once I got out, I you know, started building
- 2:58Speaker 5: my connections and one from there met Ramond and.
- 3:02Speaker 4: We built a couple of companies and we're still pushing it.
- 3:06Speaker 3: So when you were working with security for Michael Bay,
- 3:09Speaker 3: was that like all the Transformers movies or just a
- 3:11Speaker 3: particular one.
- 3:13Speaker 5: Uh. It was the first one that was based out
- 3:15Speaker 5: in Alan mcguardo, White Sands area, and then I ended
- 3:18Speaker 5: up moving once I got out of the military and
- 3:20Speaker 5: moved out here to you know, tooth On, Arizona at
- 3:23Speaker 5: that time, and that started filming. I want to say
- 3:27Speaker 5: it was the second one out here in the boneyard.
- 3:30Speaker 5: So I was around for two of the films.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Gotcha, gotch because I remember the the second one is
- 3:37Speaker 3: the one where or maybe it was the third one
- 3:38Speaker 3: where they went to Egypt, and I can't remember which
- 3:41Speaker 3: transformers that is, but I remember they went to Egypt
- 3:43Speaker 3: for one of them, and I just I just remember, well,
- 3:47Speaker 3: well not just Egypt, but they I remember they were
- 3:50Speaker 3: going to all of these different places like that. And
- 3:52Speaker 3: I'm always just wondering, you know, about about security about
- 3:54Speaker 3: places like that, because you brought it up, because you know,
- 3:57Speaker 3: you see all these big, big productions and even when
- 4:00Speaker 3: they're here in Philadelphia or in New York, you know,
- 4:03Speaker 3: usually they have pas that are like guarding entrances and exits,
- 4:06Speaker 3: and I'm they always thinking of myself, you got to
- 4:09Speaker 3: have somebody else, you know, you know, a twenty year
- 4:11Speaker 3: old PA telling you not to go down an alleyway
- 4:13Speaker 3: or whatever is it sometimes just doesn't cut.
- 4:16Speaker 4: It right, right. Yeah.
- 4:18Speaker 5: What we did more so was security for the actual
- 4:21Speaker 5: like aircraft and the flight lines, anything that was military related,
- 4:26Speaker 5: making sure no one was going where they weren't supposed to,
- 4:29Speaker 5: you know, certain parts of aircraft aren't supposed to be filmed,
- 4:32Speaker 5: and then making sure the filmmakers aren't being bugged by,
- 4:35Speaker 5: you know, anybody trying to get.
- 4:36Speaker 4: On base just to see them. Yeah, so that was
- 4:39Speaker 4: kind of my job at that time, gotcha.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Yeah, And that's right.
- 4:43Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:43Speaker 3: And I wasn't completely off base when I was talking
- 4:45Speaker 3: about the PA because I was wonder because you mentioned
- 4:48Speaker 3: the IAEA. You kept people off, you know, certain people
- 4:50Speaker 3: off the out of their way, which is important. Really
- 4:53Speaker 3: cool quick story. I was actually one time filming at
- 4:56Speaker 3: a on an aircraft at a on an airstrip, and
- 4:59Speaker 3: we got approached by one of the I hear what
- 5:02Speaker 3: you even called, maybe a director of whatever, and she goes, okay,
- 5:06Speaker 3: you guys have to stop filming at this particular time.
- 5:09Speaker 3: And we said why and she goes, there's a VIP
- 5:11Speaker 3: coming in. And so as we're filming, these two jets
- 5:15Speaker 3: came in and then we were told that we absolutely
- 5:18Speaker 3: had to end right now. And later on we found
- 5:21Speaker 3: out Joe. That was Joe Biden coming in.
- 5:23Speaker 4: Oh wow, yeah.
- 5:25Speaker 5: Where was was it on a military installation or no,
- 5:29Speaker 5: it was.
- 5:29Speaker 3: A it was a airport up here in Philadelphia.
- 5:33Speaker 4: Oh cool. Cool.
- 5:36Speaker 3: So apparently, I mean I don't think he landed there.
- 5:38Speaker 3: I think the airspace like everything had to be cleared out,
- 5:40Speaker 3: or maybe he did because they said if we if
- 5:42Speaker 3: we didn't leave, we're going we were gonna get stuck there.
- 5:47Speaker 4: Oh yeah, probably security was going to get super tight
- 5:49Speaker 4: or something.
- 5:50Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's when there's all the jets, like these
- 5:53Speaker 3: are fighter jets, and I was like, oh, yeah, this
- 5:55Speaker 3: isn't you know what I mean, this is kind of odd.
- 5:57Speaker 3: So that's when I, uh, I we we just kind
- 6:00Speaker 3: of broke down and left. But but yeah, that that's
- 6:02Speaker 3: that's my one brush. And then then I later on
- 6:05Speaker 3: I got to meet Joe Biden again at another event.
- 6:07Speaker 3: But I'm sorry, that's a whole nother story. I don't
- 6:10Speaker 3: think people want to hear me talk about Joe Biden.
- 6:12Speaker 5: No, no, you're good.
- 6:13Speaker 4: That's part another that's for another episode.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I get the Joe Biden episode.
- 6:20Speaker 4: So my question is, when you met him the second time,
- 6:22Speaker 4: did you tell him thank you for interrupting your filming.
- 6:25Speaker 3: I only got to shake his hand for you know,
- 6:28Speaker 3: and it was like he was gone. I didn't get
- 6:30Speaker 3: to talk to him or anything. So okay, yeah, because
- 6:35Speaker 3: it was in passing and it was it was what
- 6:37Speaker 3: what That's a whole nother story. Though, but uh, and
- 6:39Speaker 3: then also joining us uh is Arman Erman. I want
- 6:43Speaker 3: to say, uh, you know, thank you so much for
- 6:45Speaker 3: coming on, because you and I have been back and forth,
- 6:48Speaker 3: and you and I met even before I met Brandon.
- 6:50Speaker 3: You and I have been talking back and forth.
- 6:52Speaker 6: Uh.
- 6:52Speaker 3: And then I had on a mutual friend of ours
- 6:57Speaker 3: who name excase me at the moment. Damn it, I
- 6:59Speaker 3: always happen, Yeah, but who's I always do this. I
- 7:02Speaker 3: always blank out when I'm interviewing people. But she and
- 7:05Speaker 3: I were talking, and oh, this is gonna kill me.
- 7:08Speaker 3: She's gonna murder me that. I can't remember her name
- 7:10Speaker 3: right now. Anyways, what does she do? She she lives
- 7:16Speaker 3: in Dallas. She's a consultant. She does uh Whitney Davis.
- 7:20Speaker 3: They you go, Yeah, I said, tell I'm an excellent storyteller.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Hey remember that that person you do that thing? Yeah?
- 7:30Speaker 4: So that that one city, that one state.
- 7:33Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly, that person she does that thing. Uh yeah.
- 7:36Speaker 3: So uh so she she kept saying when she was on,
- 7:40Speaker 3: She's like, you got to have her mom on, you
- 7:42Speaker 3: gotta have her mom on. So uh, I said, you
- 7:44Speaker 3: know what, I've been friends with him for a while.
- 7:45Speaker 3: I've been trying to get him on, but it's like
- 7:47Speaker 3: we can never actually get our schedules to meet. We've
- 7:50Speaker 3: been Twitter friends for what maybe five years now. Yeah. Yeah,
- 7:53Speaker 3: we we.
- 7:54Speaker 4: Just kept like in passing, like hey, what are you
- 7:57Speaker 4: doing this Saturday?
- 7:58Speaker 3: Or you know, like.
- 8:00Speaker 6: It's like we always miss each other, but hey, we
- 8:02Speaker 6: we have each other now, so that's that's what's important.
- 8:05Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, it's like two ships of the night, my friend.
- 8:07Speaker 3: We were just constantly so uh yeah. So so we
- 8:11Speaker 3: had I remember when I first met you on Twitter too,
- 8:13Speaker 3: again the power of Twitter through networking, and I remember,
- 8:16Speaker 3: you know, us going back and forth and uh now
- 8:18Speaker 3: you know, and then we when uh you know, we
- 8:20Speaker 3: got to talking again, uh pretty regularly, I was like,
- 8:23Speaker 3: oh great, you know his his He's built up this following.
- 8:26Speaker 3: I see all these awesome things are doing. And now
- 8:28Speaker 3: I'm glad that we can actually talk because I want
- 8:30Speaker 3: to actually, you know, we can sort of start getting
- 8:31Speaker 3: into this stuff. But so I'm going to ask you
- 8:34Speaker 3: the same question of mine, as you know, how did
- 8:36Speaker 3: you get started in this whole, whole wacky world what
- 8:39Speaker 3: we call the film industry.
- 8:42Speaker 6: So I also had a curiosity in storytelling when I
- 8:45Speaker 6: was a kid, I was just like anyone else in
- 8:48Speaker 6: the ninety that was a big fan of power Injuries
- 8:50Speaker 6: and all that stuff. So as a kid, I thought
- 8:52Speaker 6: it'd be cool to be like that on TV. I
- 8:53Speaker 6: thought I would want to be performer. So you know,
- 8:57Speaker 6: I I would pertend with my brothers you know, at home,
- 9:02Speaker 6: and be Powerngers and other kind of superheroes. Come sixth grade,
- 9:07Speaker 6: I entered a very smart school for it was a
- 9:10Speaker 6: magnet school, that is what we called it in Virginia Beach.
- 9:13Speaker 3: And you know, I.
- 9:15Speaker 6: Found myself not so academically academically gifted as other people.
- 9:19Speaker 6: So I kind of used the outlet of writing to
- 9:24Speaker 6: get away, if that makes sense. And I was given
- 9:28Speaker 6: the opportunity to join ACA class or other electives. But
- 9:32Speaker 6: you know, I didn't see them a lot of Asian
- 9:34Speaker 6: Americans on television, so I thought, okay, I probably need
- 9:39Speaker 6: to go towards another route. So you know, I would
- 9:42Speaker 6: be sitting there in math class and science class, and
- 9:44Speaker 6: while other people writing formulas, I would be writing like
- 9:46Speaker 6: stories in my notebook, you know. So I kind of
- 9:51Speaker 6: cultivated my love of writing in middle school and then
- 9:55Speaker 6: in high school, all my all my English teachers were like, yeah,
- 9:58Speaker 6: you need to be a writer, he needs to pursue
- 9:59Speaker 6: this more.
- 10:01Speaker 2: We'll be right back after a word from our sponsor,
- 10:07Speaker 2: and now back to the show.
- 10:10Speaker 6: So like every year they did say the exact same thing,
- 10:13Speaker 6: and I be like okay. So I took their worse
- 10:15Speaker 6: to consideration and I went to film school out of
- 10:18Speaker 6: Virginia Beach. After film school, I you know, did a lot.
- 10:22Speaker 6: I did some internships here and there in Virginia Beach
- 10:24Speaker 6: and then it kind of led me to an internship
- 10:27Speaker 6: in LA. So I went to Mosaic, which shares the
- 10:30Speaker 6: same floor as Attlets Entertainment.
- 10:32Speaker 3: So Alice.
- 10:33Speaker 6: Alice Entertainment does all like the big movies like they
- 10:35Speaker 6: just did Just League, they did Wonder Woman, they did
- 10:37Speaker 6: the Dark Knight series. Mosaic was more so the literary
- 10:42Speaker 6: slash management side, So I learned how to do script
- 10:44Speaker 6: coverage there. I did a lot of script reading and
- 10:48Speaker 6: then after that I went back to virgin To Beach
- 10:51Speaker 6: and I hopped on social media and kind of created
- 10:54Speaker 6: a name for myself on social media. So I created
- 10:57Speaker 6: the name Erma on LA because it was kind of
- 10:58Speaker 6: like a wink wink, nudge nudge. People think I was
- 11:01Speaker 6: people thought I was in LA and I was not
- 11:03Speaker 6: in La. So I'll get all these organizations contacting me
- 11:07Speaker 6: because they thought through social media thought I was in LA.
- 11:10Speaker 6: So there's these conferences, these screen night organizations ask him
- 11:14Speaker 6: to hire me, and you know, I kind.
- 11:16Speaker 3: Of play along.
- 11:17Speaker 4: I was like, yeah, sure, I'll do this.
- 11:20Speaker 6: So when I did the commerces, when I did other
- 11:23Speaker 6: script coverage for other organizations, kind of segue into doing events,
- 11:29Speaker 6: segueing into doing celebrity interviews and uh, interviewing filmmakers, et cetera.
- 11:34Speaker 6: So all that kind of snowball into just a network
- 11:37Speaker 6: of people. So I told myself, you know, before I
- 11:39Speaker 6: moved to La. By the way, it took me five
- 11:41Speaker 6: years before I moved to LA, I want to at
- 11:43Speaker 6: least five hundred people. So that was my goal, was
- 11:46Speaker 6: to just create a network of people because I know
- 11:49Speaker 6: a lot of people kind of rush into the city
- 11:51Speaker 6: without a plan with that knowing and body, and I
- 11:53Speaker 6: was I was not going to be that person. So yeah,
- 11:57Speaker 6: it took me a few years to just doball I network.
- 12:00Speaker 6: So that's why I started doing events. You know, me
- 12:03Speaker 6: and Brandon do a competition, screenwriting competitions, film making competitions.
- 12:07Speaker 3: So it was a five year six five six year
- 12:10Speaker 3: plan for me. Yeah, do you find that that's that
- 12:15Speaker 3: that's kind of common where people just move to l
- 12:18Speaker 3: A without a plan.
- 12:20Speaker 6: I've I've had a lot of friends who lasted like
- 12:22Speaker 6: a month, few months because you know, I get it.
- 12:27Speaker 6: A lot of people just want to do it, you know,
- 12:29Speaker 6: and it's hard for men because you know, I had nothing.
- 12:34Speaker 6: I'm not talking bad about anybody, but some people come
- 12:37Speaker 6: here to do the whole you know, a bartender thing,
- 12:40Speaker 6: waitress thing, waiter thing, and they're miserable and they don't
- 12:45Speaker 6: know anybody in the industry and they come out to
- 12:48Speaker 6: these like you know, so like club events even like
- 12:51Speaker 6: or they expect to meet like a producer at the bar.
- 12:54Speaker 6: You know, they they it's funny and you know, and I,
- 12:57Speaker 6: like I said, I wasn't gonna be that person.
- 12:59Speaker 3: I want know people beforehand before coming out.
- 13:02Speaker 6: So I just lad a foundation, you know, whether be
- 13:04Speaker 6: social media, through events, through just asking people to take meetings.
- 13:08Speaker 6: That was my foundation. Sorry, I did that for many
- 13:11Speaker 6: years and uh it's it's been growing, it's been growing.
- 13:15Speaker 6: So for other people who want to come to the city,
- 13:19Speaker 6: I would just just have a plan, you know, or
- 13:22Speaker 6: even network beforehand before coming out here, before you change
- 13:24Speaker 6: your address, make sure you know quite a few people.
- 13:29Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, and I know it's exactly what you mean.
- 13:31Speaker 3: Or my I've had friends too who have moved out
- 13:33Speaker 3: to la without a plan, and some of the lasted, like,
- 13:36Speaker 3: you know, a couple of months, some lasted a week.
- 13:39Speaker 3: I actually had a friend who moved out there for
- 13:40Speaker 3: a week. He moved Yeah, yep, he actually flew out there,
- 13:48Speaker 3: and he was like, I just got to do it
- 13:49Speaker 3: on a whim. He like, just got all this stuff together.
- 13:52Speaker 3: He didn't He didn't really know anybody per se. He
- 13:55Speaker 3: had a few friends here and there, but they were
- 13:57Speaker 3: on the same boat. They were all like struggling work
- 14:00Speaker 3: as bartenders or whatever, hoping to meet somebody at a bar,
- 14:04Speaker 3: just like you stay, you know, just like you said.
- 14:06Speaker 3: And uh he was here for about here. He was
- 14:09Speaker 3: there for about a week and then he said, uh,
- 14:11Speaker 3: I just can't do it. He ran out of money,
- 14:14Speaker 3: he he and uh he had nowhere else to go,
- 14:16Speaker 3: and he actually got you got the plane ride back
- 14:19Speaker 3: and that was it and has never been back.
- 14:22Speaker 4: So this I know, Uh, oh good.
- 14:26Speaker 3: No, I was gonna make a joke, but I was
- 14:28Speaker 3: just gonna say the city. The city kind of crushed
- 14:30Speaker 3: his soul. But oh no, yeah, I know.
- 14:34Speaker 6: Ah a film fell Filmston of mine, who came to
- 14:38Speaker 6: l A thought he had the best script ever said
- 14:40Speaker 6: to himself, you know, I'm gonna get hired in the month.
- 14:43Speaker 4: And a month went by and he nothing happens, so
- 14:45Speaker 4: he left.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Yeah. So well, you know, as we sort of talked about,
- 14:50Speaker 3: you know, the the how, you know, a lot of
- 14:51Speaker 3: people have gone and and and experienced you know, the
- 14:54Speaker 3: you know, the the the sort of the dark side
- 14:56Speaker 3: of it. Have either of you, Brandon Orman, have either
- 14:59Speaker 3: one of you had somebody who's actually going out there
- 15:02Speaker 3: and gotten gotten you know, I hit or gotten I
- 15:08Speaker 3: don't know what. Maybe in play I guess, I don't know.
- 15:10Speaker 3: Have your eight either of you ever ever known somebody
- 15:12Speaker 3: like that, who who's actually going out there and kind
- 15:14Speaker 3: of struck old.
- 15:16Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 15:18Speaker 5: Actually, we've had a few people from our Michnology events
- 15:21Speaker 5: that have you know, networked through our events and uh,
- 15:26Speaker 5: just by doing that they've been able to secure some
- 15:29Speaker 5: type of job.
- 15:29Speaker 4: Orman.
- 15:30Speaker 5: I don't know if we're allowed to, you know, say
- 15:32Speaker 5: names or anything. But if we are all as you say.
- 15:34Speaker 6: I don't want to say Dave, but yeah, but uh,
- 15:37Speaker 6: going off of what Brandon said, or we had somebody
- 15:39Speaker 6: who come in for my home home city. She came
- 15:42Speaker 6: in and a week after coming in she went to
- 15:45Speaker 6: one of our events and well, behold, she got a
- 15:48Speaker 6: she got an assistant position within actor that's pretty pretty.
- 15:52Speaker 3: Well known nowadays because he can't see the event too.
- 15:55Speaker 3: So not like that.
- 15:57Speaker 6: I mean, we've we've been blessed to help people, to
- 16:00Speaker 6: help people other people. But I do know somebody who
- 16:04Speaker 6: came out here, uh you know, having having the talents.
- 16:09Speaker 6: She she didn't shake goal right away, but me like
- 16:11Speaker 6: a year or two later, she got one of those
- 16:14Speaker 6: uh what do you call it? You know those comedy
- 16:16Speaker 6: troops that have those writing initiatives. It was one of
- 16:21Speaker 6: those things where she had like one of those writing
- 16:26Speaker 6: She became a member of one of those writing troops
- 16:28Speaker 6: based on her channels. So it can't happen. It can't happen,
- 16:31Speaker 6: And I'm not and I'm not saying that people. It
- 16:33Speaker 6: doesn't happen of some people, but a lot of people
- 16:36Speaker 6: just don't have plans. So so going back on that, yeah,
- 16:39Speaker 6: it's it is kind of does kind of crush you
- 16:42Speaker 6: here if you don't have any any goals lined up,
- 16:45Speaker 6: you know, like yeah, yeah, I.
- 16:48Speaker 4: Was gonna say.
- 16:48Speaker 5: It could also be a lot of luck, you know,
- 16:50Speaker 5: being at the right place at the right time and
- 16:52Speaker 5: bumping into somebody who you know has the ability to
- 16:55Speaker 5: hire you, you know, out of Starbucks or whatever. So uh,
- 16:58Speaker 5: I recommend if you know anybody that either they're not
- 17:02Speaker 5: from more from LA or they are from LA, get
- 17:05Speaker 5: out to as many like networking events as possible because
- 17:08Speaker 5: you never know who you're gonna meet.
- 17:12Speaker 3: Yeah, and dressed nicely. Yeah, you know, it's funny in mind.
- 17:21Speaker 3: I remember one time I went to an event here
- 17:23Speaker 3: in Philadelphia and I was going to talk to this
- 17:25Speaker 3: to this person. Again, I'm not using any names or anything.
- 17:28Speaker 3: It's just you know, all just a distant story. And
- 17:31Speaker 3: I ran into this person who I was going to
- 17:33Speaker 3: meet randomly because I looked for him when I got there,
- 17:38Speaker 3: it wasn't there, you know. An hour or so went by,
- 17:40Speaker 3: and finally as I was getting ready to leave, he
- 17:42Speaker 3: there he is. This guy was so belligerently drunk. The
- 17:48Speaker 3: bartender was trying to take his keys away from him,
- 17:50Speaker 3: so he didn't try to drive home.
- 17:52Speaker 4: Wow. Yeah, yeah, don't do that.
- 17:54Speaker 5: Don't do that at network in advancing, you know, Raman
- 17:57Speaker 5: and I kind of have a funny story and I'll
- 17:59Speaker 5: try to I'll try to make it quick so I
- 18:00Speaker 5: don't want to take up too much time, but just
- 18:03Speaker 5: to go off of you never know who you're gonna
- 18:05Speaker 5: meet and you never know where.
- 18:07Speaker 4: Armand myself and Arman, myself and another friend. We decided
- 18:11Speaker 4: to go see.
- 18:11Speaker 5: A movie at the Arc Light in La and uh
- 18:15Speaker 5: we ended up you know after the.
- 18:16Speaker 4: Movie was War of the Worlds, right or no war?
- 18:19Speaker 4: The worlds were the Planet of the Apes, right, Arman.
- 18:21Speaker 3: Yes, sir.
- 18:22Speaker 4: Yeah. So we finished the movie and we walk out
- 18:26Speaker 4: and I tell Herman, I have to good use the restroom.
- 18:28Speaker 4: So I go to the restroom real quick.
- 18:29Speaker 5: And while I'm in the restroom, he ends up texting me,
- 18:32Speaker 5: but I don't get his text because the service in the.
- 18:34Speaker 4: Little bathroom area. So I come walking out and he's like, hey, Man,
- 18:37Speaker 4: he's over at the bar area.
- 18:39Speaker 5: He's all excited, and I'm like, oho, I thought he
- 18:41Speaker 5: was talking about our friend who went to go validate
- 18:43Speaker 5: his parking and I was like, who our friend and
- 18:47Speaker 5: he's like, no, man, didn't you get my text?
- 18:49Speaker 4: And I was like no.
- 18:50Speaker 5: And so we're walking up the stairs during this conversation
- 18:53Speaker 5: and he's like qt Quentin Tarantino and I'm like, no way.
- 18:57Speaker 4: Like I started shaking with excitement.
- 18:58Speaker 5: I look over and there's Quintin Garantino standing at the
- 19:01Speaker 5: bar with his fiance, and I mean, that was such
- 19:06Speaker 5: a cool opportunity. We hung out there for like thirty minutes,
- 19:08Speaker 5: We chatted, shook his hand, super cool, super cool moment.
- 19:14Speaker 3: So was he actually approachable when he went up to him.
- 19:17Speaker 4: Yeah, he totally was.
- 19:18Speaker 5: He's gonna let me buy a drink for his fiance.
- 19:20Speaker 5: But when she came back, she was in the restroom
- 19:23Speaker 5: as well. When she came back, he told her like, hey,
- 19:26Speaker 5: these guys are gonna buy these guys are gonna buy
- 19:28Speaker 5: you a drink, and she's like, no, no, it's all right,
- 19:30Speaker 5: I'm not thirsty. So you know, he, yeah, he came
- 19:34Speaker 5: over to us and told us like he don't worry
- 19:36Speaker 5: about it. So that was kind of a little letdown,
- 19:38Speaker 5: because you know, we saw as an opportunity to chat
- 19:41Speaker 5: with him some more once we brought the drink over.
- 19:43Speaker 6: But funny story is after that happened, we kind of
- 19:46Speaker 6: like took the l We took the loss, and we
- 19:48Speaker 6: sat down for like thirty minutes trying to figure out
- 19:51Speaker 6: what's our next move? How do you play this? So
- 19:54Speaker 6: I sat there for thirty minutes, like just trying to
- 19:56Speaker 6: figure it out, and finally we we got the courage
- 19:59Speaker 6: again to reapproach him and say, hey, this is what
- 20:00Speaker 6: we do.
- 20:02Speaker 2: We'll be right back after a word from our sponsor
- 20:09Speaker 2: and now back to the show.
- 20:11Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, we give him our business cards and then
- 20:14Speaker 5: we shook his hand one more time and we took off.
- 20:16Speaker 4: We don't want to bug him too much, but he
- 20:18Speaker 4: was super approachable. He was cool. You know.
- 20:20Speaker 5: I don't know if anyone's seen that clip of him where,
- 20:23Speaker 5: you know, I think it was up in.
- 20:26Speaker 4: What's called Parks.
- 20:27Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, up at Sundance where the Papa Rozzi's filming
- 20:31Speaker 5: him and he kind of goes off on the dude
- 20:32Speaker 5: at Starbucks, kind of pushes him.
- 20:35Speaker 3: He's not like that.
- 20:36Speaker 5: I mean, the dude just wants wants his own space.
- 20:39Speaker 5: And I think he asked that dude, you know, hey,
- 20:42Speaker 5: leave me alone, man, and the dude was kind of
- 20:44Speaker 5: antagonizing situation.
- 20:46Speaker 4: He's not like that.
- 20:46Speaker 5: You respect him like a human being and he's going
- 20:49Speaker 5: to treat you like when I asked him if I
- 20:50Speaker 5: could take a picture and he said he like he
- 20:53Speaker 5: appreciated that I was there. He definitely shake my hand,
- 20:56Speaker 5: but he didn't feel like taking pictures at the moment.
- 20:58Speaker 5: So you know, I respected hit his wishes and I
- 21:02Speaker 5: didn't get punched.
- 21:06Speaker 3: Uh well, I mean you were in the Air Force,
- 21:08Speaker 3: so Brian, and you can take care of yourself.
- 21:10Speaker 4: Right, Oh yeah, yeah, definitely definitely.
- 21:12Speaker 3: Gonna say, like, you know, I don't know if they
- 21:16Speaker 3: if they're still doing the hand to hand or if
- 21:18Speaker 3: they're just going to all BJJ, but I'm sure the
- 21:21Speaker 3: way you hand yourself.
- 21:22Speaker 5: Right Oh yeah, yeah, they teach you all that. My
- 21:25Speaker 5: career field with security forces, which people aren't familiar with that.
- 21:29Speaker 5: In the Air Force, it's basically the MPs for the
- 21:32Speaker 5: Air Force Military Police. So yeah, we have to go
- 21:36Speaker 5: through all that training over at San Antonio. San Antonio's
- 21:40Speaker 5: Air Force Base, which is also known as Lackland Air
- 21:43Speaker 5: Force Base.
- 21:45Speaker 3: Yeah, Randon gets only take on QT for sure. We
- 21:51Speaker 3: got to talk to the UFC see if we can
- 21:52Speaker 3: get this to happen. But but so let me just
- 21:56Speaker 3: ask you this. You guys, you know you did everything professional. Obviously,
- 22:00Speaker 3: you don't want to be that person two that goes
- 22:03Speaker 3: up and says like, oh, here's my screenplay or here's
- 22:06Speaker 3: my movie pitch. You don't want to be that person, obviously,
- 22:08Speaker 3: because the three of us know better than that. So
- 22:11Speaker 3: let me ask you this, just looking back on it,
- 22:14Speaker 3: is there anything that you guys would have done differently?
- 22:19Speaker 6: Uh?
- 22:20Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 22:21Speaker 5: One thing I would say, somebody like Quintin Tarantino. You know,
- 22:25Speaker 5: there's a handful of people in the film industry that
- 22:27Speaker 5: you know, I would love to meet just because I'm
- 22:29Speaker 5: a big fan, and I kind of I would say,
- 22:33Speaker 5: we probably approached him before we gathered our senses. We
- 22:36Speaker 5: were super excited, you know, you you're adrenaline takes over
- 22:41Speaker 5: and you kind of start shaking. So I would say,
- 22:43Speaker 5: take a deep breath, realize that there are people too,
- 22:47Speaker 5: you know, and approach them calm, Because I honestly Raman
- 22:54Speaker 5: can attest to this.
- 22:55Speaker 4: I love Quinton's movies, pulp fiction with Sillord Dogs, Yeah, yeah,
- 23:03Speaker 4: Reservoir Dogs.
- 23:03Speaker 5: I was trying to think of the one with Jamie
- 23:05Speaker 5: Fox slipped my mind, right, yeah, Jangle and Chain. You know,
- 23:09Speaker 5: I love all those movies. So when I saw him,
- 23:12Speaker 5: I just I kind of like lost my senses. Instead
- 23:15Speaker 5: of being like a you know, a filmmaker who wants
- 23:18Speaker 5: to work with him one day, I became a fan
- 23:20Speaker 5: and I lost my senses for that moment. And instead
- 23:24Speaker 5: of you know, approaching him to talk about you know,
- 23:27Speaker 5: like hey, I'm a filmmaker too, it was more so
- 23:29Speaker 5: like hey can I take a picture with you?
- 23:31Speaker 4: Like I didn't know what to say. You know, I
- 23:33Speaker 4: kind of lost, I lost my brain for a moment.
- 23:37Speaker 5: But like her mom said, like herman said, we sat
- 23:39Speaker 5: down at the tables near the bar where he was sitting,
- 23:43Speaker 5: and we kind of talked to each other and you know,
- 23:46Speaker 5: took deep breasts and figured out how we could reapproach
- 23:49Speaker 5: him professionally.
- 23:50Speaker 4: And he was super cool.
- 23:52Speaker 5: Uh. He he took our business cards, thanked us for
- 23:55Speaker 5: being in respectful to him and his his fiance tried
- 23:59Speaker 5: to give a muffin into our other friend that was there.
- 24:02Speaker 4: So I mean, there, they're cool people.
- 24:04Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 24:07Speaker 6: I would have for me, just going back on the
- 24:09Speaker 6: whole playing thing, we could have. I guess you know,
- 24:12Speaker 6: teamed up first and kind of strategized before approaching him
- 24:15Speaker 6: because Brandon, uh, Brandon calls me like, Brandon calls me
- 24:20Speaker 6: the less shy one of the the two. But for me,
- 24:23Speaker 6: like as a fan, I literally brand could tell you.
- 24:25Speaker 6: I stood behind Brandon. I was like, Brandon, like I
- 24:27Speaker 6: can't talk to him right now, Like I'm sweating, like
- 24:30Speaker 6: my needs are shaking right now, dude. So Brandon, Brandon
- 24:34Speaker 6: had a bigger call that day. He approached and I
- 24:36Speaker 6: kind of stood behind him, like yeah what he said?
- 24:38Speaker 6: What he said?
- 24:39Speaker 3: Like I was just super shy man.
- 24:41Speaker 4: And yeah, yeah he was. He was my hype man
- 24:44Speaker 4: that day. Yeah, well he said, yeah, yeah, we we
- 24:47Speaker 4: want to take a picture.
- 24:50Speaker 3: So preserve her mind. Was kind of like the flavor
- 24:52Speaker 3: of flave.
- 24:53Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 24:55Speaker 3: Yeah. You know, I had friends who've actually on the pop.
- 25:00Speaker 3: Actually I have had people on the podcast who actually
- 25:01Speaker 3: work with with Quentin and and and and actually they
- 25:04Speaker 3: worked on Django together. Uh. And it was his name
- 25:08Speaker 3: was uh John Connor. Uh not the guy from Terminator,
- 25:13Speaker 3: but uh Connor. He he actually worked in the Cowra
- 25:15Speaker 3: department for for Django, and uh he was like, yeah,
- 25:19Speaker 3: QT is one of the greatest guys to work with.
- 25:21Speaker 3: And uh, you know, he goes, he he knows his
- 25:24Speaker 3: stuff and he's just you know, he the days are
- 25:29Speaker 3: are long, but he goes. Everyone's having fun. He goes
- 25:32Speaker 3: like you know, Tarantino directs in his crazy way. He's energetic, uh,
- 25:36Speaker 3: and he goes. He's just an awesome guy to you know,
- 25:38Speaker 3: just in general to work with.
- 25:40Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:41Speaker 5: Yeah, I believe it because when we met him, he
- 25:44Speaker 5: was the same way. He's like, oh, hey, guys, hey,
- 25:45Speaker 5: like like super excited to like meet it. So yeah, yeah,
- 25:49Speaker 5: you could buy her drink like like, I think that's
- 25:51Speaker 5: just how he is. He he has an energetic, uh
- 25:54Speaker 5: personality about him, whether he's actually shooting a film or
- 25:58Speaker 5: if he's you know, hanging out at the bar.
- 26:00Speaker 4: He's just a really cool person. Yeah.
- 26:03Speaker 6: I saw a scenes feature at one time of a
- 26:06Speaker 6: scene has shot for for uh not workers Dogs, pulp fiction.
- 26:13Speaker 6: It's the twist scene and he's like beyond the camera
- 26:16Speaker 6: dancing himself. So like that that's type of personality we
- 26:19Speaker 6: want to work within the feature. You know, those types
- 26:21Speaker 6: of directors and producers and et cetera who have fun
- 26:25Speaker 6: while on set, not just like we're not just Milton
- 26:28Speaker 6: on set. You know, you do this, you do that,
- 26:30Speaker 6: but who can provide a really energetic fun atmosphere exactly?
- 26:37Speaker 3: So is there has there ever been another time though,
- 26:39Speaker 3: like you've sure been going on to these network events
- 26:42Speaker 3: because you know, I wanted to talk to you guys about,
- 26:44Speaker 3: you know, networking and hustling in Hollywood. I know, hustling
- 26:46Speaker 3: sometimes could be you know, a weird word. Uh, sometimes
- 26:49Speaker 3: it has a negative connotation, but I think it's a
- 26:52Speaker 3: good thing now. You know, when people say hustling, it's
- 26:55Speaker 3: not you know, it just means you're you're grinding it out,
- 26:57Speaker 3: you're working, You're you're trying to pursue something. You know, Uh,
- 27:01Speaker 3: you know. And that's what I wanted to talk to
- 27:02Speaker 3: you guys mainly about, is you know, hustling and networking
- 27:05Speaker 3: in Hollywood. And so just to sort of to to
- 27:09Speaker 3: just can continue this conversation. You know, what were some
- 27:12Speaker 3: of the things that you know, when you first got
- 27:14Speaker 3: to town, maybe that or even just networking online with
- 27:18Speaker 3: people like Arman you you mentioned this too or earlier
- 27:21Speaker 3: on about networking online. You know, what are some of
- 27:23Speaker 3: the things that that you've done or you do now
- 27:26Speaker 3: that really have benefited you, and just and just finding
- 27:29Speaker 3: and talking to people, like finding certain people to talk
- 27:32Speaker 3: to or even have people or even the best when
- 27:33Speaker 3: people reach out to you and say hey, or you know,
- 27:35Speaker 3: hey Brandon herem on, I found you online. You know, like, so,
- 27:38Speaker 3: so what are some of the tips that you could
- 27:40Speaker 3: share that of some stuff that's that's helped you out?
- 27:44Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah yeah from on yeah yeah, I'll go first.
- 27:48Speaker 5: Just something that I've noticed, whether it's you know, people
- 27:50Speaker 5: reaching out to us because we are starting to produce projects, uh,
- 27:53Speaker 5: we're getting in contact with finance areas who want to
- 27:56Speaker 5: produce uh films that we're producing or whatever. The big
- 28:02Speaker 5: thing is when you reach out to somebody is don't
- 28:08Speaker 5: don't make it seem like you you just want to
- 28:12Speaker 5: use that person for the resources you need to be
- 28:15Speaker 5: more so, like you want to build a relationship or
- 28:18Speaker 5: friendship with that person. So like when Arman and I
- 28:21Speaker 5: first reached got together, Arman was holding a event, and
- 28:27Speaker 5: I could have been one of those people that just
- 28:29Speaker 5: you know, messaged her mon and was like, hey, Raman,
- 28:31Speaker 5: like can I can I get some tickets to your event?
- 28:34Speaker 4: Like hook me up?
- 28:34Speaker 2: Dude.
- 28:35Speaker 5: I wasn't like that I had message herman and I
- 28:37Speaker 5: was like, hey man, you know what, I'm actually a
- 28:39Speaker 5: student at one of you at your school in Virginia,
- 28:43Speaker 5: but I was taking the online masters program and we
- 28:47Speaker 5: from there, we just kept talking and we built a
- 28:49Speaker 5: friendship that turned into a partnership. So building a actual
- 28:54Speaker 5: relationship and not just trying to use somebody for their resources.
- 28:58Speaker 5: And that's a very guy tip I would I would share.
- 29:05Speaker 6: Yeah, and and going off of that, like people may
- 29:09Speaker 6: find a frustrating that build my pationship takes over.
- 29:12Speaker 3: It takes time, but it does take time.
- 29:14Speaker 6: You know, you're not gonna work with so ow and
- 29:17Speaker 6: cell because you messaged it one time and be like
- 29:19Speaker 6: hey can I work with you now? It's gonna it
- 29:21Speaker 6: takes It's gonna take a series of conversations before you
- 29:23Speaker 6: finally or with somebody.
- 29:25Speaker 3: So that is very key what Brandon said.
- 29:29Speaker 6: Another thing I would say is kind of like podcasts
- 29:31Speaker 6: like this, I I would take, even starting off, you know,
- 29:36Speaker 6: the last three or four years. I would take any interview,
- 29:39Speaker 6: no matter how big or small was, because if someone
- 29:43Speaker 6: wants to work, they can literally google me and see
- 29:45Speaker 6: my my history, my background. They can see in my
- 29:48Speaker 6: interview see who what I'm about. So if if someone
- 29:52Speaker 6: approaches you about an interview, no matter how big or small,
- 29:55Speaker 6: may feel, take it.
- 29:58Speaker 2: We'll be right back after a word for our sponsor
- 30:04Speaker 2: and now back to the show.
- 30:08Speaker 3: And uh yeah.
- 30:08Speaker 6: So when I reach out to this, when we when
- 30:11Speaker 6: we do events or do contest, when we do some outreach,
- 30:13Speaker 6: I say, hey, here's some background on us. You know,
- 30:16Speaker 6: would you like to do it with us or not?
- 30:18Speaker 6: And because of the fact that we have searchable names,
- 30:23Speaker 6: it does go on our feet.
- 30:28Speaker 3: So you know, you mentioned bigger, small. I mean, so
- 30:30Speaker 3: you've you've gotten so you're doing a pretty small interview
- 30:33Speaker 3: right now, Arman. But but so but no, no, yeah,
- 30:42Speaker 3: yeah it's there. There's me and then there's like the
- 30:44Speaker 3: Mark Maaron podcast, right so uh so, but no, it's
- 30:50Speaker 3: you know all king aside. You know, I realized that too,
- 30:52Speaker 3: Orman is uh you know, there's when I a couple
- 30:57Speaker 3: of years ago, when I was doing projects I I
- 30:59Speaker 3: and I I just sort of reached out and said, hey,
- 31:01Speaker 3: you know what's out there because I didn't know and
- 31:04Speaker 3: there's so many people who wanted to me to come
- 31:05Speaker 3: on to do different things or do a podcast or
- 31:08Speaker 3: and that this is like it when it was still
- 31:09Speaker 3: in it and it's still in somewhat infant stages. And
- 31:13Speaker 3: they were, you know, different people who asked me to
- 31:15Speaker 3: do like, you know, articles or not articles, but like
- 31:17Speaker 3: an interview and it'd be written up and stuff like that.
- 31:20Speaker 3: And you know, I started to realize when people are
- 31:23Speaker 3: going out to do projects like let's just say, you
- 31:25Speaker 3: you have a movie at armand and you're looking to
- 31:28Speaker 3: you know, get publicity for it and everything. You know,
- 31:31Speaker 3: I think everybody wants to be in like the Hollywood
- 31:33Speaker 3: reporter of Variety.
- 31:35Speaker 6: Uh.
- 31:36Speaker 3: They also want to be on Mark Marron's podcast and
- 31:38Speaker 3: all this and that. But then I go on the
- 31:40Speaker 3: flip side and I say, you know, what if you
- 31:43Speaker 3: just did instead of just doing doing one interview to
- 31:46Speaker 3: hit like a million people, what if you did ten
- 31:49Speaker 3: interviews that did one hundred thousand each or twenty that
- 31:52Speaker 3: did ten thousand each. Do you see where I'm going
- 31:54Speaker 3: with this?
- 31:55Speaker 5: Right?
- 31:55Speaker 3: Right?
- 31:56Speaker 4: Oh?
- 31:57Speaker 3: And I think you have more of a shot with
- 31:59Speaker 3: the ladder because you know, most of us don't have
- 32:01Speaker 3: friends that have you know, a million reaching whatevereverever they do,
- 32:04Speaker 3: whether it be YouTube or podcasts. So I think that's
- 32:07Speaker 3: That's something that a lot of filmmakers, especially you know,
- 32:10Speaker 3: indie filmmakers who have a budget of you know, let's
- 32:13Speaker 3: just say under what, under under four million or under
- 32:16Speaker 3: five I don't know, just's just use that as a
- 32:18Speaker 3: barometer if they have that. You know, usually there's a
- 32:21Speaker 3: market for that, there's a niche for that, and then
- 32:24Speaker 3: also there's a you know, there's a lot of different
- 32:26Speaker 3: ways you could play that in terms of going onto podcasts.
- 32:30Speaker 3: Even when I get pitched this podcast, it's I get
- 32:33Speaker 3: so many emails and that's why. And I'm like a
- 32:36Speaker 3: little nobody in Philadelphia. I couldn't even imagine what it
- 32:39Speaker 3: would be like to be like Mark Marin or Adam
- 32:41Speaker 3: Carolla or any of these other guys. I mean, they
- 32:43Speaker 3: must get floored every every five seconds. That's so true. Yeah. Yeah.
- 32:49Speaker 6: But see also, if I was a celebrity and I
- 32:51Speaker 6: was approached by a podcast, like if that's brand new
- 32:53Speaker 6: and they had like maybe two listeners, I would actually
- 32:56Speaker 6: take it, because what if that podcast blew up because
- 32:59Speaker 6: of me? That I can be like, hey, I help
- 33:02Speaker 6: this new uh you know, media company blow up.
- 33:07Speaker 4: So who knows, man, you might be able to get
- 33:10Speaker 4: like a big.
- 33:11Speaker 6: Time filmmaker one day, and they help your numbers grow
- 33:14Speaker 6: and they can be like, hey, I helped Dave Bull's
- 33:17Speaker 6: podcast become what it is today.
- 33:20Speaker 3: I've actually reached out to a lot of people to
- 33:22Speaker 3: to kind of do that. Hopefully I end up being
- 33:25Speaker 3: the filmmaker that does it for myself, you know what
- 33:26Speaker 3: I mean. I could kind of.
- 33:27Speaker 4: Be like, there's a hey, there you go, you did better.
- 33:31Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly. I like to be the guy who launched,
- 33:33Speaker 3: you know, and then you kind of have the pot
- 33:34Speaker 3: you kind of live in both worlds because you know, again,
- 33:38Speaker 3: he just trying, because I see people on lone of
- 33:40Speaker 3: the time. They're always trying to get like you know,
- 33:41Speaker 3: Kevin Smith or whoever on their podcast. And and by
- 33:46Speaker 3: the way, I think Quentin Tarantino, I think he's very
- 33:48Speaker 3: smart for acting on social media because because I think
- 33:51Speaker 3: he realizes if he got on there, it would be
- 33:53Speaker 3: nothing with people just pitching him with stuff. Oh jeez. Absolutely,
- 34:00Speaker 3: so as we as we sort of talk you about,
- 34:02Speaker 3: you know, and then you know that's what again, one
- 34:04Speaker 3: of the reasons it's it's it's one of the bad
- 34:06Speaker 3: spots of social media, you know. But but usually social media,
- 34:10Speaker 3: you know, I always tell people it's a tool like
- 34:11Speaker 3: anything else, you know, so sometimes you can go really bad,
- 34:15Speaker 3: sometimes you can go really well. And that's why, you know,
- 34:18Speaker 3: I think a lot of celebrities, though they get pitched
- 34:20Speaker 3: all the time, like I mean, Kevin Smith, uses it
- 34:22Speaker 3: to kind of sort of dialogue with people. Sometimes Tom
- 34:26Speaker 3: Cruise just just talks one way, you know what I mean.
- 34:30Speaker 3: It's so it's kind of, you know, everything is kind
- 34:32Speaker 3: of you know how you wield it. And you know,
- 34:34Speaker 3: just before I forget, I wanted to mention too, where
- 34:36Speaker 3: mon I, you mentioned the people reaching out to you
- 34:39Speaker 3: on Twitter. I actually had somebody reach out to on
- 34:42Speaker 3: Instagram and Instagram is solely becoming my favorite social media site.
- 34:46Speaker 3: And I had this this company reach out to me
- 34:49Speaker 3: and they sell they help you get the real estate
- 34:52Speaker 3: company in Hollywood, and they started following me and I
- 34:55Speaker 3: follow them back and they reach out to me immediately.
- 34:58Speaker 3: So it's like you know, an auto DM and right
- 35:01Speaker 3: off the bat there asking if you know I'm in
- 35:04Speaker 3: the market for a home out in Hollywood, and I'm
- 35:07Speaker 3: just thinking, I'm just I'm already I'm like, oh right,
- 35:10Speaker 3: we're we're already getting the conversation just started and you
- 35:13Speaker 3: want me you want to sell me a three million
- 35:15Speaker 3: dollar home? All right, sounds great? Oh my god, wow people. Yeah,
- 35:24Speaker 3: it was just funny, mane because I was like, you know,
- 35:26Speaker 3: usually you have some kind of you know, I mean,
- 35:30Speaker 3: I don't know, a pitch like that is really hard
- 35:32Speaker 3: to swallow. Be I'm like, hey, you want to buy
- 35:34Speaker 3: a house out in Hollywood. I'm like, no, what the hell.
- 35:37Speaker 3: What's a hell of a way to start something. But yeah,
- 35:40Speaker 3: because I had the writer of John Wick on on
- 35:43Speaker 3: the podcast, Derek Colstead and and Derek Nice, and Derek
- 35:47Speaker 3: was even joking about that. He goes, yeah, he goes
- 35:50Speaker 3: his wife before he wrote John Wick, was like, listen,
- 35:52Speaker 3: you know, when you write something, we'll and sell it.
- 35:55Speaker 3: We'll go and we'll buy a house in Malibu or whatever.
- 35:58Speaker 3: And he goes, yeah, we went looking at a hell
- 36:00Speaker 3: after he sold John Wick and and they were starting
- 36:03Speaker 3: at like one point five for these little dinky houses
- 36:07Speaker 3: that were like absolutely nothing, and he's like, this is
- 36:09Speaker 3: one point five million dollars. Wow, you know what I mean.
- 36:13Speaker 3: It's just like the real estate market. Yeah, it's just crazy.
- 36:16Speaker 3: The real estate market is just crazy, man. It's just
- 36:19Speaker 3: I don't know. I just always find that stuff funny,
- 36:22Speaker 3: especially because I saw there was a there was a
- 36:24Speaker 3: news story recently about this house and in California. It
- 36:28Speaker 3: was foreclosed on and it went for like one point
- 36:31Speaker 3: two million or something like that or something, and it
- 36:33Speaker 3: was like this little dinky house that was in total disrepair.
- 36:37Speaker 3: But the real estate market out there is just in
- 36:39Speaker 3: such demand that that's that's how it's that that crappy
- 36:43Speaker 3: house sold. So it just it just goes to show you, man.
- 36:47Speaker 3: But uh, you know, just as we get to talking
- 36:49Speaker 3: about networking, you know, Brandon, I want to ask you
- 36:52Speaker 3: and then I'm gonna throw the same question to you
- 36:53Speaker 3: or I'm on, you know, what was what? What was?
- 36:55Speaker 3: What is like the worst networking experience you've ever had?
- 37:00Speaker 4: Who? Uh, that's a good question.
- 37:06Speaker 5: Can I think of anything? I mean, most of my
- 37:09Speaker 5: networking experiences have been pretty good. Uh Rman, can you
- 37:16Speaker 5: think of anything I've told you in the past that has.
- 37:18Speaker 4: Gone gone wrong for me?
- 37:21Speaker 5: I think, yeah, I know.
- 37:25Speaker 4: Everything's gone good.
- 37:28Speaker 5: You know.
- 37:29Speaker 6: I I've never met personally like I don't have any
- 37:31Speaker 6: stories of me like messing up. But I will say this,
- 37:34Speaker 6: I this is something I witnessed firsthand. We had an
- 37:37Speaker 6: event back from my hometown in Virginia Beach two years
- 37:40Speaker 6: ago and one of the main speakers was at Lancas,
- 37:44Speaker 6: who was Oscar.
- 37:46Speaker 4: Nominated for trade out at Bompton.
- 37:50Speaker 6: So after the events, we had this mixer with all
- 37:53Speaker 6: the speakers and all the attendees, and you know, we're
- 37:55Speaker 6: fortunate to have all the speakers come out to actually
- 37:57Speaker 6: attend and then hang out with the attendee, so that
- 37:59Speaker 6: was cool.
- 38:01Speaker 3: There was a person who approached a circle.
- 38:04Speaker 6: That Alan gathered, like you know, there's there's five speakers,
- 38:07Speaker 6: and so each speaker had like their own pocket of
- 38:09Speaker 6: people talking to them, and so Alan was talking to
- 38:12Speaker 6: somebody and or a group of people.
- 38:14Speaker 4: And this random person I guess who continue the event.
- 38:18Speaker 4: He approached him with a script in hand, not just
- 38:21Speaker 4: any script in hand, but it was crumpled up like
- 38:23Speaker 4: it was even like, first off, don't give someone your
- 38:25Speaker 4: script first and promost like in the middle of a conversation,
- 38:29Speaker 4: but like it was like crumpled up, like stands all
- 38:33Speaker 4: over it.
- 38:34Speaker 3: It was so un a professional. It was so bad.
- 38:36Speaker 6: And Alan's looked at him like yeah, like I forget
- 38:39Speaker 6: what he said, but I can just imagine what was
- 38:41Speaker 6: going through his head, like wrong time, buddy, don't do
- 38:44Speaker 6: that ever, So that was like, that's a big no
- 38:47Speaker 6: note when when you literally give your script to somebody,
- 38:51Speaker 6: uh in the middle of mixer or middle of a conversation,
- 38:54Speaker 6: that's like the absolutely wrong way to do it. So
- 38:58Speaker 6: I'm I was very very about that. But that's a
- 39:02Speaker 6: funny start to tell, like looking back, Yeah, it's.
- 39:06Speaker 3: The stories like that, you know, which I was kind
- 39:10Speaker 3: of you know, when I asked the question. I was
- 39:12Speaker 3: kind of looking for because even you know most of me,
- 39:16Speaker 3: you know you and Brandon, I know you guys. You
- 39:18Speaker 3: know what you're doing, and obviously you're not gonna, you know,
- 39:21Speaker 3: go off the deep end or anything. But usually when
- 39:25Speaker 3: you see other people at networking events, that's when things
- 39:27Speaker 3: start to go bad, especially when they're newbies and they're very,
- 39:30Speaker 3: very desperate.
- 39:32Speaker 2: You know.
- 39:33Speaker 3: I've just see I've seen the gamut of things happen,
- 39:36Speaker 3: but really quickly. A funny, funny story speaking of Quentin Tarantino,
- 39:39Speaker 3: a friend of mine ran into Tim Roth at a
- 39:42Speaker 3: networking event and and true story. This is a true story.
- 39:48Speaker 3: My friend goes, my friend goes hey, he goes so
- 39:53Speaker 3: he meets Tim and wils I think it was his
- 39:55Speaker 3: manager or agent, and.
- 39:59Speaker 2: We'll be right back after a word from our sponsor
- 40:05Speaker 2: and now back to the show.
- 40:08Speaker 3: He goes, so what do you do? He goes, oh,
- 40:09Speaker 3: I'm an agent manager and he goes, my my one
- 40:11Speaker 3: of my clients is here, Tim Roth, and he and
- 40:13Speaker 3: my friend says to Tim Roth, I shit you not.
- 40:16Speaker 3: He goes, so what do you do? And Tim Roth
- 40:18Speaker 3: goes and tim and Tim Roth goes, I'm an actor.
- 40:21Speaker 3: He goes, I've ever seen any of Quentin Tarantino's movies?
- 40:24Speaker 3: He goes, yeah, he goes, well, he goes, I'm I'm
- 40:27Speaker 3: pretty much all of them. And uh, my friend was like,
- 40:31Speaker 3: oh really, so uh my friend tried to give Tim
- 40:34Speaker 3: Roth his business card. He was no, no, no, I won't
- 40:37Speaker 3: take yours, but you can take mine. And Tim just
- 40:40Speaker 3: gave him his business card and that was it. I
- 40:43Speaker 3: told my friend he should. He should, you know, uh,
- 40:46Speaker 3: whatever he has to do, even if he has to
- 40:48Speaker 3: write a snail mail letter, just say here you go say,
- 40:51Speaker 3: remember me, I'm the guy who didn't know who you were.
- 40:53Speaker 3: I think he was. I think he would have stuck
- 40:55Speaker 3: so out. You know what, I mean, I think he
- 40:57Speaker 3: would have been so memorable that I think Tim would
- 40:59Speaker 3: remembered him if you had said that to him.
- 41:02Speaker 6: That I yeah, that would be a fantastic story or
- 41:05Speaker 6: or kind of a throat a callback, you know, like, uh, yeah, do.
- 41:10Speaker 3: You remember you?
- 41:10Speaker 6: Because you're the guy who didn't remember who I was
- 41:12Speaker 6: And thanks for having the guts to to remind me that.
- 41:17Speaker 3: He like you, that guy who doesn't know anything, all right,
- 41:20Speaker 3: So oh yeah, I'm oh yeah.
- 41:26Speaker 5: Yeah, I was gonna say, I think that's a great
- 41:28Speaker 5: story to tell, because when you are at those networking events,
- 41:31Speaker 5: you should you should do somewhat of your of your
- 41:35Speaker 5: research on the people that are going to be there.
- 41:38Speaker 5: And you know, if you know somebody's name, you know, uh,
- 41:41Speaker 5: but you don't know what they look like.
- 41:43Speaker 4: Google him real quick.
- 41:43Speaker 5: I mean, we have the amazing uh technology within our fingertips.
- 41:49Speaker 5: You know, you have a phone type in you know, uh,
- 41:53Speaker 5: one of our good buddies.
- 41:54Speaker 4: You could type in Jeff Hower.
- 41:55Speaker 3: A lot of people, you.
- 41:56Speaker 5: Know, they know his movies, but they might not know
- 41:58Speaker 5: who he is. He's the cod of Gerald's Game on Netflix,
- 42:01Speaker 5: or Oculus or Ouigi, Origin of Evil, and he's a
- 42:04Speaker 5: great guy, so you could hear that, Oh, Jeff Howard's
- 42:08Speaker 5: going to be at this event. You might not know
- 42:10Speaker 5: what he looks like, but before you walk into that event,
- 42:12Speaker 5: google his name. You see what he looks like. Then
- 42:15Speaker 5: you can walk up and not, you know, make the
- 42:16Speaker 5: mistake of actually bumping into Jeff Howard saying uh, what
- 42:20Speaker 5: do you do?
- 42:21Speaker 4: You know? And it makes you look a little more
- 42:23Speaker 4: professional if you.
- 42:23Speaker 5: Know who these guys are, even though they're not as
- 42:25Speaker 5: famous as the guys in front of the cameras.
- 42:30Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, I don't know why people don't use the
- 42:33Speaker 3: internet more or you have your phone with you at
- 42:35Speaker 3: all times. Everyone has their phone with him at all times. Yeah, yeah, seriously,
- 42:39Speaker 3: And I don't know why people don't use it more
- 42:41Speaker 3: when they're going to go talk to people. I mean,
- 42:44Speaker 3: there was a thing here in Philadelphia for m Shyamalan,
- 42:47Speaker 3: and like as soon as it was over and he
- 42:49Speaker 3: was coming off the stage, people were like asking him, like, Hey,
- 42:52Speaker 3: how can I pitch you a script? This and that?
- 42:54Speaker 3: And he was you know, and he uses the answer, oh,
- 42:57Speaker 3: just send it to my office. Well, you know, I
- 43:00Speaker 3: know exactly what's gonna happen with that script. If they've
- 43:02Speaker 3: ever send it where it's just gonna go right into
- 43:04Speaker 3: the shred her. So you know what I mean. But
- 43:06Speaker 3: it's just, you know what I mean, It's just it's
- 43:11Speaker 3: like they don't understand how anything works. And I think
- 43:13Speaker 3: that it's like someone's gonna read their screenplay right then
- 43:16Speaker 3: and there.
- 43:16Speaker 4: You know what I mean.
- 43:17Speaker 3: It's just, uh, you know what I mean, Like they
- 43:21Speaker 3: just think that it's everyone's gonna stop whatever they're doing.
- 43:23Speaker 3: And I had a friend of mine who was trying
- 43:25Speaker 3: to give a script to Lee Shreiver. I'm like, no,
- 43:27Speaker 3: don't do that, Please don't do that. Don't just leave
- 43:30Speaker 3: him alone because they She was like, because they were
- 43:34Speaker 3: in the same place a couple of times. She goes,
- 43:36Speaker 3: I think he's in here. I think I'm gonna give
- 43:38Speaker 3: it to him, and I said, please don't, please don't
- 43:39Speaker 3: do it.
- 43:42Speaker 5: That reminds me of the movie The Room with who
- 43:47Speaker 5: was it Jode Appetel's in that movie?
- 43:49Speaker 3: So painful?
- 43:50Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's crazy. You have you seen The Room, Dave?
- 43:54Speaker 3: Yes?
- 43:55Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah. You remember the scene where he walks up
- 43:57Speaker 5: to Jodan Appatow who's having dinner, and he wants to
- 43:59Speaker 5: give them the script and Jeordie Apatil's like, I wouldn't
- 44:02Speaker 5: read you a script in a million.
- 44:03Speaker 4: Years, like get out of here.
- 44:05Speaker 5: You know, that's what it reminds me of is people
- 44:09Speaker 5: trying to do too much. And again it goes back
- 44:12Speaker 5: to what I said earlier, like if you somehow find
- 44:16Speaker 5: a way to build a relationship with these power movers
- 44:21Speaker 5: in Hollywood, like, oh, invite them out to coffee. You know,
- 44:25Speaker 5: that's a big thing that Arman and I do. Before
- 44:28Speaker 5: we ask them to do events or whatever, We'll ask
- 44:30Speaker 5: them if they'll meet.
- 44:31Speaker 4: Up for coffee.
- 44:32Speaker 5: And what that does is it lets them see that,
- 44:36Speaker 5: you know, you're not just trying to make first contacts,
- 44:40Speaker 5: say hey, let me see you a script.
- 44:41Speaker 4: You're saying, hey, let me buy you a coffee so
- 44:43Speaker 4: we could talk. I want to get to know you.
- 44:45Speaker 5: And I'm not I'm not saying the odds are a
- 44:47Speaker 5: lot better, but that actually makes them more open to
- 44:52Speaker 5: meeting up with you if they have the time. A
- 44:54Speaker 5: lot of these guys are busy eleven months out of
- 44:57Speaker 5: the year, twelve months out of the year, they don't
- 44:59Speaker 5: have any time. But if they do, you know, they're
- 45:02Speaker 5: more than willing to meet for coffee and give advice.
- 45:08Speaker 6: Yeah, And the worst thing that you can say is no,
- 45:10Speaker 6: Like if they say no, let's say okay, well let
- 45:12Speaker 6: us know when you are let me know when you
- 45:13Speaker 6: are available, and I'd love to take you off your then.
- 45:15Speaker 5: So yeah.
- 45:16Speaker 6: A lot of times it can be on town too busy,
- 45:18Speaker 6: or they're none or they're noundated with this current project,
- 45:21Speaker 6: like okay, well, hopefully next time when you're do you
- 45:23Speaker 6: have breathing when you do have time to breathe, and
- 45:25Speaker 6: let me know and I'll love to take you then.
- 45:28Speaker 6: And just continue that conversation, like even if they say no, like,
- 45:30Speaker 6: don't just drop off, don't just end it there. Make
- 45:34Speaker 6: sure you kind of just follow up just what is
- 45:39Speaker 6: the worst that could happen then them say no?
- 45:41Speaker 4: You know yeah, yeah.
- 45:42Speaker 5: And another thing I want to say real quick is
- 45:45Speaker 5: that you don't just need to build those relationships with
- 45:50Speaker 5: the big producers, the big directors or whatnot.
- 45:53Speaker 4: Try to find out who their assistants are, who interns
- 45:55Speaker 4: for them.
- 45:56Speaker 5: And build those relationships because most likely those guys are
- 46:01Speaker 5: going to move up in Hollywood. And if you already
- 46:03Speaker 5: have a friendship, you know with I don't know the
- 46:06Speaker 5: assistant to Steve Carroll. You know, that person might be
- 46:12Speaker 5: the next studio head or the next producer of Steve
- 46:14Speaker 5: Carroll's Steve Carroll's production company. I don't know, and it works.
- 46:20Speaker 5: I mean, Dania Brunetti is.
- 46:24Speaker 4: A big producer in Hollywood.
- 46:25Speaker 5: He's done House of Cards, he's done Captain Phillips, and
- 46:28Speaker 5: one of my really good friends is his assistant, and
- 46:31Speaker 5: I think now he's his creative executive for companies. So,
- 46:36Speaker 5: I mean, you never know where those assistants, interns are
- 46:39Speaker 5: going to end up. A lot of people, you know,
- 46:42Speaker 5: see the assistant and they're like.
- 46:43Speaker 4: Oh, you're just his assistant.
- 46:44Speaker 5: They don't realize how much work these guys put in
- 46:47Speaker 5: for these big A list producers, A list stars, directors,
- 46:51Speaker 5: and they get noticed and that gets them bigger jobs.
- 46:55Speaker 4: So that's something else that I would I would share
- 46:59Speaker 4: definitely since.
- 47:00Speaker 6: Our point and everybody said it's too like everybody who's
- 47:02Speaker 6: been to our panels said, make sure you get well.
- 47:06Speaker 6: You make sure you get on the radar peak since
- 47:09Speaker 6: they will come bigger in the future and you are
- 47:12Speaker 6: technical gatekeepers to anything you do with their pod. You
- 47:16Speaker 6: send them an email if you're if you're not nice,
- 47:19Speaker 6: to them, they can literally block it.
- 47:21Speaker 5: You know.
- 47:23Speaker 6: Also, agents, managers and problicists get along with them too
- 47:27Speaker 6: because they're the ones who are the team of uh
- 47:30Speaker 6: these power players, So make sure you have a good
- 47:34Speaker 6: relationship with them as well.
- 47:38Speaker 3: You know, somebody once told me a tip, and I
- 47:41Speaker 3: want to get you guys, your your your guys opinion.
- 47:44Speaker 3: That was excellent English, by the way. Uh I'm talking
- 47:48Speaker 3: as like you guys opinion. So I want to get
- 47:50Speaker 3: both of your opinions on this.
- 47:51Speaker 5: Uh.
- 47:52Speaker 3: So many once told me that if you want to
- 47:54Speaker 3: get a screenplay to like, let's just say, a producer,
- 47:57Speaker 3: a manager, an agent, that you should send it specifically
- 48:02Speaker 3: to the assistant first. And what I mean by that
- 48:05Speaker 3: is you actually address it to them and say, like
- 48:08Speaker 3: if I like, let's just say, uh, you know, Brandon,
- 48:11Speaker 3: let's just say you were Orman's assistant and and you
- 48:14Speaker 3: know you and I addressed it and you said you
- 48:20Speaker 3: and I wrote in the email or I wrote in
- 48:22Speaker 3: the in you know whatever, and I said, you know,
- 48:25Speaker 3: mister Waits, I think this would be an excellent project
- 48:27Speaker 3: for your for your boss.
- 48:29Speaker 5: Uh.
- 48:29Speaker 3: You know, mister Brady, you know, could you know if
- 48:32Speaker 3: you read this? I I I really think blah blah blah.
- 48:34Speaker 3: Maybe maybe even write something in the subject line just
- 48:37Speaker 3: to get to open the email, Like you know, this
- 48:39Speaker 3: has been script recommended by one of the script the
- 48:42Speaker 3: script reading services, and in the body you write, you
- 48:46Speaker 3: directly you make it right to them. That way, you're
- 48:49Speaker 3: it's and you are sincere about it. That way, you're
- 48:52Speaker 3: not just kind of like, you know, treating them like
- 48:54Speaker 3: sort of like a lackey, you know what I mean,
- 48:56Speaker 3: and saying like, hey, look, I just want to get
- 48:57Speaker 3: to your boss. What do you think about that?
- 49:00Speaker 4: I think it's a good idea.
- 49:01Speaker 5: Honestly, I think that you don't even have to mention, Like,
- 49:04Speaker 5: you know, if if I was Orman's assistant and you're
- 49:09Speaker 5: sending it to me, I don't even think you have
- 49:11Speaker 5: to mention Rman by sending it to me, because you
- 49:14Speaker 5: know that if it's good, I'm gonna get it into
- 49:17Speaker 5: Herman's Herman's hands, and if I get it into his
- 49:22Speaker 5: hands his assistant, then I'm going to get recognized for
- 49:25Speaker 5: finding the material. So you could send it to me, Like,
- 49:28Speaker 5: dear Brandon, I wrote this amazing script that I think
- 49:32Speaker 5: fits your guy's slate of films, and.
- 49:34Speaker 4: I would like for you to check it out and
- 49:36Speaker 4: give me your feedback.
- 49:37Speaker 5: And you never mentioned Herman's name, and I feel like, Okay,
- 49:42Speaker 5: I'm being recognized. I'm his assistant and this person recognized
- 49:44Speaker 5: me as part of the company. And you know, I
- 49:47Speaker 5: read the script and I love it, and I'm gonna
- 49:48Speaker 5: reply back to you. You know what, I think this
- 49:51Speaker 5: has some potential and I'm gonna take it to Herman.
- 49:55Speaker 2: We'll be right back after a word from our sponsor
- 50:02Speaker 2: and now back to the show.
- 50:05Speaker 4: And uh, I think by doing that, you're right it.
- 50:07Speaker 5: It develops a relationship with the assistant. It makes them
- 50:12Speaker 5: feel important as well, you know, because like Herman.
- 50:15Speaker 4: Said, they are the gatekeepers.
- 50:17Speaker 5: They are the guys who get the screenplays, they read
- 50:19Speaker 5: the screenplays.
- 50:20Speaker 4: And they're the ones that tell their bosses whether they're
- 50:23Speaker 4: good or not.
- 50:25Speaker 3: Yep, yep.
- 50:27Speaker 4: In addition to that, Country Present agree with Brandy.
- 50:30Speaker 6: In addition to that, I would go with these says
- 50:32Speaker 6: to two because if you go to the agent or
- 50:35Speaker 6: manager of Reson's gonna ask is you know I'm su
- 50:37Speaker 6: are you offering so? Because they can think of it
- 50:41Speaker 6: from the from the business aspect. But if you hit
- 50:43Speaker 6: up the assistant. Yeah what Brandon said, They may think, Okay,
- 50:46Speaker 6: well this script is fantastic, this is the system. I think,
- 50:50Speaker 6: this is my end. This is my way of getting
- 50:53Speaker 6: h getting bigger in the industry. So yeah, I think
- 50:57Speaker 6: it's smart to hit the assistants first. I actually did
- 51:01Speaker 6: a think about it that way until you mentioned it
- 51:02Speaker 6: and I was like, oh that makes sense. So uh yeah,
- 51:05Speaker 6: Ide agree with you guys on that one.
- 51:08Speaker 3: So and just just to continue along with that too.
- 51:12Speaker 3: Query letters, you know, I mean, you know you guys
- 51:14Speaker 3: have have you know, interned agencies. You guys have been
- 51:16Speaker 3: on always producers and now and you know, as you
- 51:19Speaker 3: guys have progressed in your careers, how have query do
- 51:23Speaker 3: queries letter? Like? Query letters? Do they still works as
- 51:26Speaker 3: well as they used to? Like if I were to
- 51:28Speaker 3: email somebody, you know, first off, if do they even
- 51:31Speaker 3: work still? And two if they do, like, what are
- 51:34Speaker 3: some of the things that that you've seen or her
- 51:37Speaker 3: or producers have said that I've actually gotten them to
- 51:39Speaker 3: either open up the email or the assistants to open
- 51:41Speaker 3: up the email rather And actually, you know, I think
- 51:45Speaker 3: that's the hardest part because I think I think you
- 51:46Speaker 3: see all these emails that are keep coming in. I mean,
- 51:49Speaker 3: I mean, I remember talking to somebody at WAYM Morris Endeavor,
- 51:53Speaker 3: and he said that he usually, you know, nine to
- 51:55Speaker 3: a percent of the time he just without even opening
- 51:57Speaker 3: He just clicks all on the uh on the side
- 51:59Speaker 3: panel that and just clicks the lead delete delete, delete delete,
- 52:02Speaker 3: you know what I mean, and doesn't even open them.
- 52:05Speaker 5: Yeah. I think it depends on the how busy the
- 52:10Speaker 5: company is. You know, they're smaller production companies that are
- 52:12Speaker 5: very successful. I interned with Benderspink h At that time
- 52:17Speaker 5: it was called Benderspink under J. C.
- 52:19Speaker 4: Spink and Chris Bender.
- 52:21Speaker 6: Uh.
- 52:22Speaker 5: They're the producers of Where the Millers, the Hangover movies,
- 52:25Speaker 5: a lot of comedies. They were also Oscar nominated for
- 52:29Speaker 5: a History of Violence. So I think one of the
- 52:31Speaker 5: important things is there's so many companies like that that
- 52:34Speaker 5: are successful but not really known, and by researching them,
- 52:39Speaker 5: seeing what type of genres they do, you can sing
- 52:42Speaker 5: those query letters and if if your screenplay matches their
- 52:48Speaker 5: slate of films, I think they would be open to it.
- 52:51Speaker 5: But you need to be able to ward your you know,
- 52:56Speaker 5: your your query and a certain way. It can't be
- 52:58Speaker 5: a whole bunch of roundling. You know, it has to
- 53:00Speaker 5: be short, sweet and to the point. When I entered there,
- 53:03Speaker 5: they did go through query letters, but there had to
- 53:06Speaker 5: be something within the meat of the email that interests them,
- 53:11Speaker 5: you know. And Venter Spink was known for mostly comedies.
- 53:15Speaker 5: Like I said, if they got I don't know, some
- 53:18Speaker 5: drama that didn't fit their their slate, they're not gonna
- 53:20Speaker 5: look at it. They're looking more for the stuff they
- 53:23Speaker 5: ever first look deal with New Line cinema, So they're
- 53:25Speaker 5: looking for films that Newline wants, you know what I mean.
- 53:29Speaker 6: Yeah, Yeah, And on that same note, yeah, to try
- 53:33Speaker 6: to be succinct as possible, don't make it a long
- 53:35Speaker 6: letter because obviously you know has time to read that,
- 53:37Speaker 6: you know, don't send an email. Don't send an email
- 53:39Speaker 6: with a message of like that's to take up like
- 53:42Speaker 6: you five to six paraoffs.
- 53:43Speaker 3: They're not gonna have time for that. Absolutely don't. If
- 53:46Speaker 3: you're saying quer letter, don't attach a script already.
- 53:48Speaker 6: That's a big no note, Like, like the point of
- 53:51Speaker 6: the queer letter is to get the attention of it
- 53:53Speaker 6: of the person reading, not to already send your material.
- 53:56Speaker 4: So that's a huge no no. And I've it's happened.
- 54:00Speaker 6: I've experienced that at at at Mosaic, you know when
- 54:02Speaker 6: I entered there, people doing that as a writer.
- 54:07Speaker 3: I've done that in the past, to my mistake, but
- 54:10Speaker 3: you know I've grown from it.
- 54:11Speaker 6: But yeah, and on the same notes, Uh, for career layers,
- 54:15Speaker 6: I think they still do work.
- 54:16Speaker 4: But you got to remember that people like w E.
- 54:18Speaker 6: They only they're gonna work with you if you already
- 54:20Speaker 6: had credits, if you already have a name. So if
- 54:23Speaker 6: you're a brand new to the industry, like you, try
- 54:25Speaker 6: not to send letters to agencies of that stature, you know,
- 54:30Speaker 6: c A, W M, E, T A.
- 54:32Speaker 3: Aim for the smaller ones, aim for the bot ones,
- 54:35Speaker 3: because there the ones who are still looking for talents,
- 54:37Speaker 3: you talents. So my advice is.
- 54:39Speaker 6: To go for the for the quote unquote smaller level
- 54:44Speaker 6: uh management companies and agencies.
- 54:47Speaker 5: Yeah, because once it gets into their hands, they're the
- 54:50Speaker 5: guy that they can take it up to those bigger
- 54:52Speaker 5: studios management companies.
- 54:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 54:55Speaker 3: Yeah, And and that kind of leads in to my
- 54:58Speaker 3: next question. You know, you guys started the film Empire,
- 55:01Speaker 3: and you know there's a there's a writing contest.
- 55:04Speaker 6: Uh.
- 55:04Speaker 3: You know that that's sort of that that sort of
- 55:07Speaker 3: it's kind of the nucleus of the whole of the
- 55:09Speaker 3: whole thing. And uh, somebody once also told me that
- 55:12Speaker 3: that the writing competitions are really what they look for
- 55:15Speaker 3: because they can see now if this writing piece can
- 55:18Speaker 3: stand out against all these other writers. Uh, you know,
- 55:21Speaker 3: and that way you're not sending, you know, emails to
- 55:23Speaker 3: managers whoever, just saying, hey, read my screenplay because they
- 55:26Speaker 3: don't know if it sucks. I mean, let's be honest here, guys,
- 55:28Speaker 3: there's probably a good chance it does suck, you know
- 55:30Speaker 3: what I mean, like they you know, I remember there
- 55:33Speaker 3: was a you know, I mean, there's a guy on
- 55:35Speaker 3: Twitter called the Bitter Screenwriter or the Bitter screen Reader,
- 55:37Speaker 3: and he just you know, he's seen so many of
- 55:40Speaker 3: these scripts. He's just like, what the hell is going
- 55:42Speaker 3: on here?
- 55:42Speaker 5: You know.
- 55:44Speaker 3: So so you know, that's why I think again, screwating competitions.
- 55:48Speaker 3: I think that piece of advice is really good, just
- 55:50Speaker 3: making sure you focus on the on the writing competitions.
- 55:53Speaker 3: But you know, just to just to go into that,
- 55:56Speaker 3: you guys created the film Empire. Uh and and when
- 55:59Speaker 3: you guys decide the formal partnership, you know, what what
- 56:03Speaker 3: is you know, the the the your screenwriting competition aspect,
- 56:06Speaker 3: you know, you know what is was there? Did you
- 56:09Speaker 3: think that there was maybe a feel that there was
- 56:11Speaker 3: a need for, you know, a different kind of of
- 56:14Speaker 3: a screenwriting competition, you.
- 56:16Speaker 4: Know what I mean?
- 56:17Speaker 3: Like, so, so what was kind of the impetus to
- 56:18Speaker 3: create the Film Empire and the writing competition. A lot
- 56:24Speaker 3: of doing m.
- 56:26Speaker 6: Yeah, so being you know, doing events and all stuff
- 56:33Speaker 6: for people. That was one level of helping to network
- 56:37Speaker 6: and break in, right, having a face to face. We
- 56:40Speaker 6: wanted to take it up a notch and reach people
- 56:41Speaker 6: on a global scale. So because events are are very
- 56:45Speaker 6: brick and mortar, right, So when you do contests, literally
- 56:48Speaker 6: anyone from anyone in the world can can win and
- 56:51Speaker 6: take a meeting and take a Skype session with any
- 56:53Speaker 6: of the mentors.
- 56:54Speaker 4: So what we wanted to do was mentor meetings. So
- 56:57Speaker 4: it's one thing.
- 56:58Speaker 6: To to win a contest get cash, right, awesome, Cool,
- 57:01Speaker 6: you got fifty hundred dollars.
- 57:03Speaker 4: Awesome, you know that pays you your rent for the month.
- 57:06Speaker 4: That's fantastic.
- 57:07Speaker 6: But we wanted to what we wanted to do was
- 57:09Speaker 6: have people already in the industry give feedback and mentor
- 57:14Speaker 6: beatings to our winners because it's it's it's more than
- 57:20Speaker 6: just a meeting. It's it's about cultivating their talents. And
- 57:23Speaker 6: our winners get to ask questions that they may not
- 57:26Speaker 6: have a chance to otherwise.
- 57:28Speaker 4: You know.
- 57:29Speaker 6: For example, one of our mentors for our our very
- 57:35Speaker 6: recent mentor contest is Tomy Harper, who was formerly of
- 57:39Speaker 6: bad Robart bat Robot, but he executive producer for like
- 57:42Speaker 6: the Mission Possible films and the Star Wars films, et cetera.
- 57:45Speaker 3: So on a on a.
- 57:48Speaker 6: Regular day, someone in London may not be able to
- 57:52Speaker 6: meet him right but through our contest, we break down
- 57:55Speaker 6: our wall. Our winner gets a chance to have a
- 57:58Speaker 6: skype session or in person meeting depending on where they're
- 58:02Speaker 6: located with people like him, because it allows them to
- 58:08Speaker 6: cultivate their their their talents and you know, ask questions
- 58:11Speaker 6: that they would have no the chance of doing so
- 58:15Speaker 6: in any other situation. So we want to give we
- 58:18Speaker 6: want to provide it a kind of a platform, if
- 58:22Speaker 6: you will, for blossooming from the filmmakers andu gerenators.
- 58:26Speaker 4: That could use the extra push or advice from people
- 58:31Speaker 4: already working in the industry.
- 58:34Speaker 5: Yeah, and the pick and the piggyback off of what
- 58:36Speaker 5: Ramon is saying and something that I said earlier. By
- 58:41Speaker 5: doing this, our winners are able to in their mentor meetings,
- 58:46Speaker 5: they're able to develop the relationship you know. Uh, instead
- 58:50Speaker 5: of you know, just bumping into them and saying, hey,
- 58:52Speaker 5: read my script. This is their opportunity to sit in
- 58:55Speaker 5: front of them build a relationship. If they hit it off,
- 58:58Speaker 5: who knows, uh, maybe the the producer of their meeting
- 59:01Speaker 5: was the script that they won through our contest, and
- 59:04Speaker 5: that producer now wants to produce their pilot or their
- 59:07Speaker 5: their feature film, or maybe just slice their attitude and
- 59:10Speaker 5: wants to hire them for some position. So our contest
- 59:15Speaker 5: mentor meetings is the opportunity to develop more intimate meetings
- 59:22Speaker 5: mentorships for our winners.
- 59:25Speaker 6: Not Yeah, the first thing, the first thing to any
- 59:28Speaker 6: the first thing to any readership is getting the room
- 59:30Speaker 6: with somebody.
- 59:31Speaker 3: You know.
- 59:32Speaker 6: So where Brett said, even if they don't get their
- 59:36Speaker 6: script made per se from this producer or whoever their meeting,
- 59:40Speaker 6: they imagin something else for them.
- 59:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 59:43Speaker 5: Yeah, And the meetings are the mentor meetings are important.
- 59:46Speaker 5: That's the person's opportunity to provide a first impression, So
- 59:51Speaker 5: we're all about developing relationships.
- 59:55Speaker 2: Will be right back after a word from our sponsor,
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: and now back to the show.
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: That's how Arman and I both have.
- 1:00:07Speaker 5: Started off and made our way to where we are
- 1:00:11Speaker 5: now within Hollywood. We're still young, we still have long
- 1:00:14Speaker 5: ways to go, but that's that's like the core of
- 1:00:17Speaker 5: where we've got where we are, and we're trying to
- 1:00:20Speaker 5: help other people that may have the screenplays that are
- 1:00:26Speaker 5: really good but don't have the opportunity to get in
- 1:00:28Speaker 5: a room.
- 1:00:29Speaker 4: And we're opening those doors for those people.
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: And I think that's the the the crux of all
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: this opening doors, you know what I mean. I think
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: that's this whole business of relationships. Hell, life is about relationships,
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: and I think opening doors is one of the flip
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: parts of it exactly. So, so how can people enter
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: the screening competition?
- 1:00:54Speaker 6: By the way, yes, either the film Empire dot com
- 1:00:59Speaker 6: or you can find us on film Freeway.
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: On Filmfreway dot com is the platform we use.
- 1:01:05Speaker 6: I think a lot of h festivals and contests used
- 1:01:08Speaker 6: as well, but definite check us out at the Film
- 1:01:10Speaker 6: Empire film Empire dot com.
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: Yeah, and I'm gonna link to that in the show
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: notes everybody you know at Dave Pools dot com. But
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: before we sort of kind of uh, before we get
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: to the parting thoughts, I just want to ask one
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: one final question Brandon and Urman. Is there anything so Brandon,
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: I'll shoot you this this this question you first. Is
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: there anything that you'd like to say to sort of
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: port a period at the end of this whole conversation.
- 1:01:40Speaker 5: No, I just really and I know I keep stressing it, Uh,
- 1:01:44Speaker 5: to get into the industry, you gotta have thick skin.
- 1:01:47Speaker 5: You have to be able to you got to be patient.
- 1:01:50Speaker 5: One of our good buddies, uh, Adam Robatel, he's the
- 1:01:53Speaker 5: director of the Taking a Deborah Logan and a new
- 1:01:57Speaker 5: movie calling called Escape Room. I want to say when
- 1:02:02Speaker 5: we met him over at Blumbhouse also he didn't insidious
- 1:02:05Speaker 5: the last key.
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:02:07Speaker 5: He told us that he'd been pushing for what ten
- 1:02:10Speaker 5: fifteen years are month? Yeah, and he said you have.
- 1:02:13Speaker 4: To have a lot of patience. And it's been about
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: fifteen years.
- 1:02:16Speaker 5: I want to say that he's finally getting his opportunities
- 1:02:19Speaker 5: doing Sony movie.
- 1:02:20Speaker 4: Now he's pitching all over.
- 1:02:23Speaker 5: Uh. Doors, I mean the doors have been open for him,
- 1:02:26Speaker 5: But opportunities are just coming for him, and that's because
- 1:02:28Speaker 5: he's you know, he's pushed through the ups and downs
- 1:02:32Speaker 5: of being in the industry, and there's gonna be lots
- 1:02:35Speaker 5: of downs. There's gonna be days where you know, you
- 1:02:37Speaker 5: get an email from a producer that says, you know,
- 1:02:41Speaker 5: leave me the excuse me one cus, leave me alone,
- 1:02:43Speaker 5: you know A right, Okay, yeah, I mean I've gotten somewhere.
- 1:02:49Speaker 5: Producer will be like, leave me the fuck alone, you know, uh,
- 1:02:52Speaker 5: don't message me again.
- 1:02:53Speaker 4: It happens, and it's gonna feel like a punch to
- 1:02:56Speaker 4: the stomach and it sucks.
- 1:02:57Speaker 5: But yeah, the tough, the people who really want to
- 1:03:02Speaker 5: be in the industry, they're just gonna shrug that off
- 1:03:04Speaker 5: and go on to the next producer, to the next
- 1:03:06Speaker 5: director that they want to work with and try to
- 1:03:09Speaker 5: get into their door and develop a relationship with those guys.
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: So develop those relationships.
- 1:03:14Speaker 5: Have a thick skin. No, it's not gonna be easy.
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: Just keep building relationships and those relationships.
- 1:03:20Speaker 4: Are going to grow upon each other. So those are
- 1:03:23Speaker 4: probably my party awards.
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: Do you think that's wise though, Like when if a
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: producer would say that, like, leave me the fuck alone
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: like he because you could be the next big thing
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: and you could come back and say, hey, you're the
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: guy who told me to fuck off.
- 1:03:37Speaker 4: I'm hoping. I'm hoping, but no, I don't see.
- 1:03:44Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, I the producer that I talked to.
- 1:03:51Speaker 5: I want to say, use more so co producer or whatever.
- 1:03:53Speaker 5: But you know, I'm not really gonna take that to heart.
- 1:03:56Speaker 5: If I work with him someday, awesome, But.
- 1:04:01Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:04:02Speaker 5: Maybe he was just having a bad day the day
- 1:04:04Speaker 5: he told me that. But there's so many producers out
- 1:04:07Speaker 5: there in Hollywood. A majority of them want to see
- 1:04:09Speaker 5: other people succeed, people who are dedicated and want to
- 1:04:13Speaker 5: be in this industry, and they're willing to talk to you.
- 1:04:16Speaker 5: But I mean in every industry there's a jerk out there,
- 1:04:20Speaker 5: and those jerks, you know their karma will come. But yeah,
- 1:04:25Speaker 5: you just have to have that thick skin because you
- 1:04:26Speaker 5: are going to get some emails from some rude people.
- 1:04:29Speaker 5: Sometimes you know it's going to happen, so just have
- 1:04:36Speaker 5: that thick skin. Yeah.
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 1:04:39Speaker 6: It's funny because just like a few months ago, I
- 1:04:42Speaker 6: emailed this agent and it wasn't even about me.
- 1:04:45Speaker 4: It was asked I was inviting him. I'm not not him.
- 1:04:49Speaker 6: I was inviting his clients in the van of ours
- 1:04:51Speaker 6: and this guy should have said, if he's taking me
- 1:04:52Speaker 6: off your list, I'm like, I'm asking you about your clients.
- 1:04:56Speaker 6: Don't you want that? Like, don't you want something for
- 1:04:59Speaker 6: your client?
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: You know?
- 1:05:00Speaker 6: And people like that, It's like, well, you gotta consider
- 1:05:03Speaker 6: even though it is a small town and where it
- 1:05:04Speaker 6: gets around a lot.
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: He's just one person.
- 1:05:07Speaker 4: She's just one person, you know, so there's always other.
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: People to contact industry.
- 1:05:16Speaker 6: So don't don't like, you know, don't put yourself down
- 1:05:19Speaker 6: if you get a no, because it's gonna happen a lot.
- 1:05:21Speaker 6: So there's gonna be a lot of nose. But once
- 1:05:23Speaker 6: you get that yes, that's what that's what, that's what's important.
- 1:05:25Speaker 6: You know, you can get a hundred no's and get
- 1:05:26Speaker 6: that one yes, but that one yes is what's gonna
- 1:05:29Speaker 6: be the the the significant you know answer that you'll
- 1:05:35Speaker 6: get in your career.
- 1:05:37Speaker 4: So yeah, go for Brandon said, have.
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: A thick skin.
- 1:05:40Speaker 4: Definitely definitely keep networking.
- 1:05:43Speaker 6: And for I don't know if if everyone knows is
- 1:05:45Speaker 6: out there listening, but you know what we like, we
- 1:05:47Speaker 6: listened earlier brand it's not from LA. He's from Arizona.
- 1:05:50Speaker 6: I just moved to LA last year, so I've been
- 1:05:52Speaker 6: networking for five years. So with that being said, you
- 1:05:55Speaker 6: can literally network from anywhere, you know, So with with
- 1:06:00Speaker 6: the invention of the Internet, there's no excuse not to
- 1:06:03Speaker 6: be able to reach out to somebody and create that rapport.
- 1:06:08Speaker 3: From the comfort of your own home.
- 1:06:09Speaker 6: So even if you're not in LA, you can still network.
- 1:06:14Speaker 6: You know, networking isn't about the four the four, the
- 1:06:17Speaker 6: four walls around you. It's about, uh, the the action
- 1:06:21Speaker 6: of creating a relationship with somebody.
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: Three Geary Vary.
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, I I see a lot of Gary
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: V stuff. I actually got his latest book and I
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: took a few notes, and I, you know, I I
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: have a friend of mine who does a lot of
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: social media stuff and he swears by Gary V and
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: everything he does. And I have another friend who does
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: social media stuff and he goes, don't buy books on
- 1:06:55Speaker 3: social media. He was just just do it. So I
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: don't know, you know, the there's so much, so many
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: tips on social media and uh, you know, and I mean, Arman,
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: you got twenty six thousand followers, so I'm pretty jealous.
- 1:07:07Speaker 6: Has to start somewhere. I had to start at a
- 1:07:10Speaker 6: point of where I can grow that.
- 1:07:12Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:07:12Speaker 6: I like to tell people this, to get a million
- 1:07:14Speaker 6: dollar dollars, you to start with one dollar, you know.
- 1:07:17Speaker 6: So for me, twenty six didn't come overnight. I had
- 1:07:19Speaker 6: to grow that but for the last five years. And
- 1:07:22Speaker 6: I want to thank like you asked to do interviews
- 1:07:25Speaker 6: because you know, if you were to google me, you
- 1:07:26Speaker 6: can find all the interviews. I can't sell out an
- 1:07:28Speaker 6: event because I can't sell out an event without people
- 1:07:32Speaker 6: being to find it interviewing. It was like, oh, it's
- 1:07:35Speaker 6: full of bet Well wait a minute, I don't can't
- 1:07:38Speaker 6: find anything on you. Why would I buy tickets to
- 1:07:40Speaker 6: your bet or why would I even go to the
- 1:07:43Speaker 6: film on fire if I can't find an interview about
- 1:07:45Speaker 6: the fire? Now so I want to think podcasts like
- 1:07:49Speaker 6: you and any other press that I opportunities like this
- 1:07:52Speaker 6: because you're the reason why we get twenty six thousand
- 1:07:56Speaker 6: you know followers.
- 1:07:58Speaker 4: So uh yeah, to media is very important. Definitely grow it.
- 1:08:02Speaker 6: I guess to go back on the other question about
- 1:08:04Speaker 6: we can you know partying words, but definitely to media's
- 1:08:07Speaker 6: poort nowadays. So definitely grow your social media, and you can.
- 1:08:10Speaker 6: And social media is a different monster, but also kind
- 1:08:14Speaker 6: of the our brands that earlier. You constantly do some outreach.
- 1:08:19Speaker 6: You know, you might find some people on Twitter that
- 1:08:21Speaker 6: you may not meet in person in any other given situation,
- 1:08:25Speaker 6: so definitely hit them up, you know, contact them and kind.
- 1:08:28Speaker 4: Of build their relationship over time.
- 1:08:32Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely. And I think social media is important, especially
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: when you use it correctly. You actually are are using
- 1:08:39Speaker 3: it and you're actually out there, you know, trying to
- 1:08:41Speaker 3: network and meet people, and you know, just you know,
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: generally whatever your goal is, to try to achieve with
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: that goal. But yeah, yeah, seriously, that's how we met man,
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: just randomly. And I've met so many people on Twitter,
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: and now I'm meeting more and more people on Instagram.
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: This is just a side note, by the way, I
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: don't know, maybe you guys see this too. I see
- 1:09:03Speaker 3: a lot of these I shouldn't get into it. I'll
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: say that for you, okay, I will I will give
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: I will give it a peer pressure. So I see
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: a lot of these models. Let's say, and I saw
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: this girl the other day. I followed her her Instagram
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: months and months ago, and this picture came up and
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: it's her like bent over on a balcony wearing almost nothing,
- 1:09:29Speaker 3: and obviously because you know, I'm a heterosexual guy, so
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: it caught my eye. But here's the funny part. Okay,
- 1:09:38Speaker 3: in the text of the post, there was all this
- 1:09:40Speaker 3: text about like she's gonna knock somebody out, She's talking
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: about like empowering herself, She's talking about this. I mean,
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: it was like it was so many points of topics.
- 1:09:51Speaker 3: She was going back and forth on.
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: We'll be right back after a word from our sponsor,
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: and now back to the show.
- 1:10:03Speaker 3: And none of them had anything to do with the
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: photo that she was that she took of her bent
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: over on this balcony. And I'm just like, what message
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: are you trying to convey here? Like I'm I'm lost,
- 1:10:13Speaker 3: I don't know, I don't know what to feel about
- 1:10:14Speaker 3: this post.
- 1:10:16Speaker 6: And Dave first advice, I don't appreciate you talking about
- 1:10:19Speaker 6: my girlfriend like that.
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: Sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. No, you'll get a lot
- 1:10:26Speaker 3: of those nowadays.
- 1:10:27Speaker 6: You'll have like a model take a picture of themselves
- 1:10:29Speaker 6: and the biki and they try to have some times
- 1:10:31Speaker 6: of inspirational quote underneath it.
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: It's like, what, like you're you're gonna get a like.
- 1:10:36Speaker 6: You're gonna get a like on the picture because of
- 1:10:37Speaker 6: what you're wearing, not because of the quote underneath it.
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: You know. Yeah, yeah, it's stuff like that. And I
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: just don't know, you know, I kind of go back
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: with you know, in social media and I and we
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: could do a whole podcast about this, but they always
- 1:10:51Speaker 3: say the vern the reen, which is your v R
- 1:10:54Speaker 3: I N which is valuable, rare, inimitable and non stangible
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: or not non whatever, non substitutable, and you look at that,
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: and I kind of as I've kind of had that
- 1:11:07Speaker 3: in my mind now as of looking through other people's
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: social media, and I could see now why some people
- 1:11:12Speaker 3: have taken off and other people haven't. And it's just,
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: you know, a lot of times when I see those
- 1:11:17Speaker 3: those photos from from different you know, models and stuff
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: like that with the inspirational quotes, I don't know, it's
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: kind of like, I don't know because everyone because other
- 1:11:27Speaker 3: models are doing the exact same thing where they're posting,
- 1:11:29Speaker 3: you know, and they're they're posing in a certain way,
- 1:11:31Speaker 3: and they're also posting an inspirational quote or whatever, so
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: the rarity of that kind of goes down By the way,
- 1:11:38Speaker 3: I'm a huge Gary Vee guy. I've studied you know,
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: some of Ty Lopez's stuff, you know, back and forth
- 1:11:43Speaker 3: about you know, some of the social media stuff. So
- 1:11:45Speaker 3: so I could talk your ears off about this, but
- 1:11:48Speaker 3: I won't though, because you'll be all bored and be like,
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: what the hell is this guy talking about? So could
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: I'll just be like, you know what I mean, Like,
- 1:11:56Speaker 3: it's just sometimes with social media, I honestly think it's
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: very easy to go down a rabbit hole with this stuff.
- 1:12:02Speaker 3: And I will save all that for a whole time everybody. So, uh, Brandon,
- 1:12:07Speaker 3: where'd people find you out online? Craan you there? Oh geez,
- 1:12:17Speaker 3: I think we lost them.
- 1:12:18Speaker 4: Well, if we lost, Mike can give you socials.
