- 0:07Welcome back to the Simply Christ podcast hosted by Leon
- 0:11Martin, along with Aaron Keaton, Melvin Martin, Andrew Schrock
- 0:14and Dan Blatz. Let's get right to it.
- 0:19All righty, we are ready to get started here.
- 0:24Thanks for joining us. Like usual, we are looking
- 0:27forward to another study here on our Simply Christ Bible study
- 0:32that we've been doing on the subject of baptism.
- 0:36We going to be looking into more of that word tonight.
- 0:42So thanks for joining us. Like I always tell you, you can
- 0:46go to Simply Christ Ministries website and there we have links
- 0:50to past episodes, several different platforms, that kind
- 0:53of thing. If you would like to do that,
- 0:55you can just simply Google Simply Christ Ministries.
- 0:59You'll find all that there. And yes, tonight we will be
- 1:04talking about baptism specifically of the Holy Ghost
- 1:08or with the Holy Ghost or by the Holy Ghost or whatever it says
- 1:12or Spirit. So.
- 1:14But before we do that, let's Melvin to open us up with a word
- 1:17of prayer. Yeah, let's pray.
- 1:19Father, we come to you tonight and we just praise you and come
- 1:23to you in Thanksgiving and thank you for being a faithful father.
- 1:28And most of all, we thank you for your word.
- 1:32Thank you for the truth that you have given us in in your word.
- 1:36And Father, I pray that we can learn how to interpret it
- 1:40properly. And I think you do that through
- 1:42your spirit. So, Father, we pray tonight that
- 1:45your spirit will guide us as we go through your word and also
- 1:49that the people listening that they would be able to hear what
- 1:54your word says and maybe they'll have a, you know, a new
- 1:58enlightenment or a new vision of actually what your truth says or
- 2:04who you are. And so Father, tonight we just
- 2:07come to you and praise you. We bless you.
- 2:11We thank you most of all, Father, for giving us Your only
- 2:15begotten Son to die for us from the cross.
- 2:17That we can have a way to be righteous and holy, not because
- 2:22of what we had done, but because of the righteousness and the
- 2:26holiness of Christ, and that we can put our faith in Christ and
- 2:31in Christ alone. We praise you and honor you in
- 2:33Jesus name, Amen. Yeah, so I guess to kick it off,
- 2:42we were talking a little bit before.
- 2:44I like what Dan said about, you know, the word baptism, the
- 2:49baptism kind of having three the parts.
- 2:51You know, there's the baptizer, there's a baptize, and then
- 2:54there's the element into which you're baptized.
- 2:58And so to kick it off, kind of let's just overview baptism of
- 3:03the Holy Ghost on that subject. Kind of what what is it?
- 3:06What is it not, you know, just some kind of over the top views
- 3:10and thoughts about the subject in general?
- 3:12Damn. OK, so if there is always a
- 3:21baptizer, A baptizie, and an element into which we're being
- 3:25baptized or things are being baptized, when I look at the
- 3:29word or the term baptism with the own ghost, it's found in
- 3:34Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Acts is mentioned a couple
- 3:37times. John the Baptist said when Jesus
- 3:39has come, he will baptize you with the Holy Ghost.
- 3:43And then he also says, and with fire, I think two different
- 3:46baptisms that he's referring to there.
- 3:48But if Jesus is going to baptize us with the Holy Ghost, to me it
- 3:53seems that Jesus is the baptizer.
- 3:56We are the element, and the Holy Ghost is what he's baptizing us
- 4:01with, and he fills us with it. He covers us with him.
- 4:04I don't understand fully how that works, but it seems to me
- 4:09distinct and separate from baptism by the Holy Ghost.
- 4:14If you look in First Corinthians 12 and in Ephesians, the Holy
- 4:18Ghost take us and baptizes us into the body of Christ.
- 4:22So there the element is the body of Christ.
- 4:25We are what is being baptized and and the Spirit is the
- 4:29baptizer. And so when John the Baptist
- 4:32says I'm baptizing you with water, but there is one coming
- 4:35who's mightier than I and he's going to baptize you with the
- 4:38Holy Ghost. I think he's referring to Acts
- 4:41chapter 2, the the baptism on the day of Pentecost when they
- 4:44all receive the Spirit. They in that case they began to
- 4:47speak in tongues they were endued with, filled with,
- 4:52enriched with by, with gifts and with power to speak the word of
- 4:57God. And it came.
- 4:58It gave the untrue supernatural abilities and courage.
- 5:05And a few chapters later, after the disciples have been beaten
- 5:09in the synagogue and let out, they pray again.
- 5:12Lord, give us boldness. And it's the place where in they
- 5:14were shaken and they were filled.
- 5:16With the holy. Ghost.
- 5:17And then they went out again preaching the gospel.
- 5:19So first time they were filled, they were speaking in tongues,
- 5:23preached the gospel. Thousands of people were
- 5:24converted. Next time they're filled with
- 5:27boldness, not tongues necessarily, but they're filled
- 5:30with the Holy Ghost. And so it seems like almost like
- 5:32an anointing or a, a power that is people can sometimes be
- 5:37endued with to preach more faithfully.
- 5:39I pray for the Holy Spirit to come upon me when I'm speaking,
- 5:42when I'm preaching, when I'm sharing with people hoping that
- 5:45God can come and fill me and use me in some way.
- 5:49But we'll probably get into more of how often that gets misguided
- 5:54or abused and, and confused. And it it is can be a bit of a
- 5:58confusing topic. But to me, that's what baptism
- 6:00with the Holy Ghost is. That's a good point, Aaron.
- 6:06Your thoughts on you know what? It is a kind of over over
- 6:09overview. Yeah, I think I'd be hard
- 6:13pressed to build on what Dan said, I guess, but but I do
- 6:18think that I'll focus on the last thing he said.
- 6:21I do think that it is in fact, I'm going to, we're going to get
- 6:26to that I guess, eventually. But I don't think that being
- 6:31baptized with the Holy Ghost is synonymous or the same exact
- 6:36event, event as salvation. And I think that's something
- 6:39really key to understand. It's not they don't, they don't
- 6:44happen at the same time. In fact, you'll not see any
- 6:47instances in which they are one in the same, really.
- 6:51They're almost always separate instances, it seems like.
- 6:55I mean, I guess that's not completely true.
- 6:57I guess you could say Acts chapter 10, it was synonymous,
- 7:01you know, when Cornelius and his household began to speak with
- 7:05tongues as they believe the message.
- 7:07So I guess that would be an exception.
- 7:09But but generally speaking, I feel like other than that one,
- 7:12most time it's not one in the same event.
- 7:16And I just think that that's to me, that's that's really key
- 7:20because we know that there are people out there that in fact, I
- 7:26know a few that would say that that the baptism of Holy Ghost
- 7:32with evidence of speaking in tongues is the as is the sign in
- 7:37which you know, that you're saved, right?
- 7:40So there are people out there that that would relate those
- 7:43things as being, I guess, one in the same event or you know, that
- 7:49you could say baptism, the Holy Ghost is salvation.
- 7:52And I think that that's wrong. I don't think that's.
- 7:54Correct. Yep.
- 7:57Good stuff, Melvin. Yeah, it so.
- 8:01But if you look in the book of Acts is where you mostly find,
- 8:06you know, that term the baptized of, of the Holy Ghost or the
- 8:10Holy Spirit. It does seem like like it
- 8:15happens not simultaneously necessarily, but it happens, you
- 8:20know, at the same time or close to the same time as salvation.
- 8:25But it does seem like it's a power, you know, because Jesus
- 8:31said what first John said it, what Dan said that, you know,
- 8:35John said, I baptize you with water, but indeed, one will come
- 8:39after me that will baptize you with the Holy Ghost and, and
- 8:43with fire. And so it seems like the actual
- 8:46baptism of the Holy Ghost there in the book of Acts was a power
- 8:51that was given to them, as you know, for that specific
- 8:56spreading, starting of the of the early church.
- 9:00But it, I guess for me, it's kind of hard for me to think
- 9:06that it's always, you know, always that like the actual
- 9:10baptism of the Holy Ghost. There's another kind of what I
- 9:15found kind of interesting is it seems like it happened like the
- 9:20first time, so to speak, like like in in the book of Acts, in
- 9:25chapter 2, where the Jews, you know, the apostles received the
- 9:30baptism of the Holy Ghost or received power from on high, It
- 9:36says there that they were baptized with fire with, with
- 9:38the Holy Ghost. And then in Acts, I think it's
- 9:40chapter 10 where the Gentiles received the, the Holy Ghost
- 9:48there it says the same thing that they were baptized with the
- 9:52Holy Ghost and they spoke in tongues.
- 9:54And both times in Acts chapter 2 and the chapter 10, they spoke
- 10:00in tongues. So I I don't know, to me you
- 10:04receive the Holy Spirit obviously when you get saved,
- 10:09right? That's very clear because in
- 10:12John Chapter 7, I came across this in John Chapter 7, where he
- 10:17says he that believeth on me, as the scripture has said, out of
- 10:23his belly flow rivers of living water.
- 10:26And then in 39 it says, But this spake he of the spirit, which
- 10:30they that believe on him should. Receive for the Holy.
- 10:34Ghost was not yet given because that Jesus was not yet
- 10:38glorified. So so it gives us a a picture
- 10:43there of, you know, the spirit working through US like flowing
- 10:51like rivers of living water, whether we're some people say
- 10:55that's just preaching, but that to me that can be when you're
- 10:58speaking with someone, whoever it may be about Jesus or about,
- 11:04you know, the scriptures. So I guess to me you receive the
- 11:09Holy Ghost, you receive the Holy Spirit obviously in the Holy
- 11:12Ghost when you believe on Christ because it says there in Chapter
- 11:167 or chapter 739 of John it says which they that believe on him
- 11:24should receive. So you receive that Holy Ghost
- 11:29and Holy Spirit. But there does seem like there
- 11:31is a God does sometimes give a power or a anointing or I don't
- 11:39know what. There's several terms that get
- 11:41used. But just like Aaron was saying,
- 11:45it is not the same as salvation. Like it doesn't mean that you're
- 11:50not saved if you're not speaking in tongues or you're not
- 11:53baptized by the Holy Ghost. Because there's a lot of people
- 11:58that say, well, you're not truly saved unless you.
- 12:00Are. Baptized with the Holy.
- 12:02Ghost. Yeah.
- 12:04And you know, we've all heard that that term, you know,
- 12:07baptized by the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in
- 12:10tongues or whatever. That's something you'll hear,
- 12:12hear a lot, you know, which just goes into that hole in a radical
- 12:18Christianity. So I'd really call it.
- 12:22But so when, when God designed the, the church and how it was
- 12:29going to work, he, he wrought it.
- 12:31The Bible tells us that he wrought salvation before the
- 12:34beginning of time. And so he, him and the Holy
- 12:40Spirit of Jesus, or whoever those three were that we're
- 12:43talking about themselves before the earth was formed.
- 12:45And they, they figured they were figuring this out and they were
- 12:49talking about how a Christian is going to live and, and share the
- 12:56gospel and stuff. Like my question is what, why,
- 13:01why did, what is the purpose of it?
- 13:03Why did God do that? Give us this, this feeling or
- 13:08what you guys are saying is, you know, a power or an additional
- 13:13function. Maybe the Bible uses that word.
- 13:17What is his purpose in giving us that?
- 13:21If, if that's what it is, I'd just be interested in hearing
- 13:24your, your comments on that because he seems to be like it
- 13:29was really, really powerful in the early church.
- 13:32And it seems almost, and I'm just deducting this, that it it
- 13:36was to kind of help formulate the church and strengthen and
- 13:40rapidly build. Maybe I don't know.
- 13:41What are your thoughts on on what the purpose of this
- 13:44actually is that? You're asking anybody or?
- 13:50Dan, I guess I. Well, I mean, you look at a
- 13:57natural man like the apostles were.
- 14:00You see they're very natural characteristics coming out
- 14:03throughout the Gospels. You see at times their boldness
- 14:07when they feel confident in themselves.
- 14:10But when their lives are on the line, suddenly they're fearful
- 14:13and shaking and running away at the slightest pants of an
- 14:17opportunity for them to get into some trouble.
- 14:20Peter himself cursing Jesus, saying, I do not know this man.
- 14:24And then a few chapters later, only a mere few days later,
- 14:28suddenly he's standing up boldly before the Sanhedrin, standing
- 14:31before the very people who killed his Lord and Savior and
- 14:34telling him, challenging them like we will not keep silent.
- 14:37We cannot help but speak those things which we have seen and
- 14:40heard. And suddenly there's a boldness
- 14:42about him that nothing can stop. And Jesus had predicted and
- 14:46prophesied that the gates of hell would not prevail against
- 14:49the church. And I don't see any other way
- 14:51for the church to prevail apart from the Spirit of God doing
- 14:54works in and through US. Melvin already at this point.
- 14:58But if you look in in Romans chapter 8 verse 9, it says ye
- 15:02are not in the flesh but in the Spirit.
- 15:04If so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you.
- 15:07Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of
- 15:09his. So all Christians have the
- 15:12Spirit of Christ, but he comes to us with gifts and with power,
- 15:17and sometimes with miraculous things, sometimes to convince
- 15:21lost people. Very often he'll show up in
- 15:23large, bigger ways, more evident ways, in new territory, new
- 15:28cultures, places where the Word of God has not yet been
- 15:31confirmed. I don't know why exactly.
- 15:34There's been periods of time and history, American history,
- 15:37British history, where God seems to show up in abundance and the
- 15:41Spirit of God is poured out upon people and certain preachers get
- 15:44extraordinary power and it seems like it is for the sake of
- 15:47building the church and pushing back the gates of hell.
- 15:51But I, I find it interesting that I mean, where where most
- 15:54people probably get this idea from that the Holy Ghost will be
- 15:58an evidence come with Speaking of tongues is in Mark chapter
- 16:0216, where Jesus says he that believeth and is baptized shall
- 16:06be saved. But he that is believe believeth
- 16:08not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow
- 16:11them that believe in my name shall they cast O devils, they
- 16:14shall speak in tongues, take up serpents and so on and so forth.
- 16:18And some of those, it's typically a very redneck
- 16:21congregations down in the hills of Kentucky somewhere, maybe
- 16:24somewhere close to Aaron. I'm not sure where they're
- 16:26playing with snakes and and babbling an unknown weird
- 16:31language it right? That's the stereotype that you
- 16:33typically see, right? And it's pretty much nonsense.
- 16:38The apostle Paul was bitten by a serpent and that was normal.
- 16:42He shook it off and he was not hurt.
- 16:44That's what he's talking about, not extraordinarily trying to
- 16:47show off the power of God. But I do think that God empowers
- 16:51us by his Spirit to preach the gospel more faithfully.
- 16:55Hey there. That's a good answer.
- 16:57Aaron, anything in addition to that?
- 16:59Yeah, I guess I would just say it in a well, I'll give you a
- 17:05verse to kindly answer. Answer it, he says in Hebrews
- 17:12chapter 2. Hebrews 2 and verse 3 says, How
- 17:18shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation, which at the
- 17:21first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed right,
- 17:26like what they smoke was confirmed, and us by them that
- 17:30heard him. God also bearing them witness,
- 17:34both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles and gifts
- 17:40of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will.
- 17:44So it was a, you could certainly define it as a sign or a wonder,
- 17:49right? This, this feeling, this pouring
- 17:51out of these gifts by the Holy Ghost, this baptism of the Holy
- 17:55Ghost that resulted. I would refer and I'll show you
- 17:59the reverse, why I say this. I would refer to it as a
- 18:01manifestation of the like it's a manifestation of gifts.
- 18:07In other words, if you see someone, if someone actually is
- 18:10speaking in tongues, if someone is doing something miraculous by
- 18:15the Spirit, I would call that a manifestation spirit.
- 18:17In other words, it's not a it's not the way that you know that
- 18:22the person has the Spirit of God because there's Dan read that
- 18:24verse in Romans. Everybody that saved has the
- 18:26Spirit of God, but it is a manifestation of a filling, a
- 18:31baptizing of the Holy Ghost or yeah, baptized of the Holy
- 18:38Ghost. It is a manifestation of that
- 18:40thing which results in signs and wonders.
- 18:43I mean, listen to the verse again.
- 18:45Hebrews 2 For God also bearing them witness.
- 18:47The people that hurt, that saw and heard him, He bears them
- 18:51witness both with signs and wonders and divers miracles and
- 18:55gifts of the Holy Ghost according to His will.
- 18:59And then he also says in First Corinthians chapter 12, he says
- 19:06This is why I use the word manifestation.
- 19:09First Corinthians 12 and verse 6 he says, and there are
- 19:12diversities of operations, but is the same God which worketh
- 19:17All in all. But the manifestation of the
- 19:21Spirit is given to every man to profit with all.
- 19:26So that's why I referred to it as a manifestation.
- 19:28That's the chapter in which he talks about prophesying or
- 19:32speaking in tongues and he calls it a manifestation of the Spirit
- 19:36like you can see it, right? I mean, in other words,
- 19:40everybody, if you think of all these instances with Cornelius
- 19:44or with Acts chapter 2, the apostles, it was a is a making
- 19:49known that God had poured out his spirit on those people,
- 19:53right? Everybody knew it.
- 19:54You know, Peter says what would hinder these from being
- 19:57baptized, seeing that, you know, they have received the Holy
- 20:00Ghost as we did at the first right?
- 20:02So it is a manifestation of it. And, and I just think that
- 20:07that's the well, let me read you a couple more from first first
- 20:10Corinthians 12 and verse 29 says this.
- 20:14It says are all apostles, are all prophets, are all teachers,
- 20:19are all workers of miracle miracles, have all the gifts of
- 20:24healing, do all speak with tongues, do all interpret.
- 20:29Would you agree that the answer to that question is no?
- 20:32Right. Would you agree with that?
- 20:33You know, if he's asking the question, he's he's making the
- 20:37point. No, not everybody is an apostle.
- 20:39No, not everybody does speak with tongues.
- 20:42So it is not, I know this is kind of reverting back to what
- 20:45we said. It's not a sign of salvation.
- 20:49It is a manifestation that God is behind the message or that
- 20:53he's, as Dan said, he's putting boldness in the person to get
- 20:56the message spread is a manifestation of the Spirit, not
- 21:00a sign of salvation. And I actually don't even
- 21:02remember what you asked me. I know that was a.
- 21:07Little bit no, it's it's it's dead on what the what the
- 21:10question kind of was, yeah. Like what is it what is it for
- 21:15what why why did God go to the to the trouble, I guess, or
- 21:19whatever of of designing Melbourne.
- 21:23Any additional thoughts? That was well explained by the
- 21:25way. I Yeah.
- 21:27I don't know to me in my brain, the short answer of that is the
- 21:30Holy Ghost. The is given the baptism of the
- 21:34Holy Ghost is given for the fathering of the Kingdom of God.
- 21:38It's just that simple because so and where people get hooked up
- 21:44on like they get hung up, I should say in Acts where it's
- 21:48where refer it specifically I should say says the baptism of
- 21:54the Holy Ghost and people get hooked up on that and they sit
- 21:58on that verse. But if you take the whole Bible
- 22:01in context and you search Holy Ghost, it is only the baptism of
- 22:07the Holy Ghost is only used like maybe 3 or 4 times in the Bible.
- 22:13And after the the beginning of Acts or or about midway through
- 22:19Acts like in 9 or 10 after that you see phrases where it's where
- 22:25it says, so let me pull one up here.
- 22:29I was looking, I'm not sure they had it right in front of me, for
- 22:35the Kingdom of God, like in Romans, it says for the Kingdom
- 22:38of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness, peace and joy
- 22:42in the Holy Ghost. That's not the one I was looking
- 22:46for. Now I lost it.
- 22:52But it's where Paul says, OK, here it is, Acts chapter 13,
- 22:57nine. It says, then Saul, who's also
- 22:59called Paul, filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him.
- 23:04And then in Acts, you know, later in Acts again, you see
- 23:12another words, it uses the word feeling or you know, it doesn't
- 23:17always use the word baptize of the Holy Ghost.
- 23:21So in other words, I think there's a lot of misconception
- 23:24with that term, so to speak. It is like Aaron was saying, if
- 23:30there is, it's like a manifestation, just like you
- 23:33were saying, Aaron, all the gifts of the of the Spirit and
- 23:38all the Holy Ghost. To.
- 23:40For fathers of the Kingdom of God, and that's and it has to be
- 23:44to God's glory. If it is at all directed to man
- 23:49or a man trying to look spiritual or be spiritual or be
- 23:55more spiritual. If it's used in that manner,
- 23:58then it's not used in the proper way.
- 24:01Because if you look all through the Scriptures, it's used for
- 24:04the fatherance of the gospel into the Kingdom of God.
- 24:08Yeah, that is really good Melvin.
- 24:11And that kind of brings me to the next point here.
- 24:13And this is kind of date aimed at Dan because he had shared
- 24:17kind of on the our chat here about this deeper.
- 24:20I remember well when when I got converted and then shortly
- 24:26after, we were pressured by several different kind of
- 24:29visiting pastors to get baptized by the Holy Spirit.
- 24:35And man, I worked at that with all my heart.
- 24:39I did. I wanted it.
- 24:41And I, I agree with everything I had included, including dabbling
- 24:45with, you know, speaking in tongues and stuff like that, you
- 24:50know, but but we were under the impression at that time and I, I
- 24:54didn't know better. I was, you know, innocent to
- 24:57this whole thing at the time, but we were we were basically
- 25:01under the assumption that any real Christian gets baptized by
- 25:04the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues.
- 25:07And there was an incredible Melville.
- 25:09Melville. Remember this?
- 25:10Yeah. It would be incredible pressure
- 25:13to somehow bring this to fruition.
- 25:16And man, now looking back, I see how vain that actually was
- 25:21because I wanted it to convince myself that I truly was a child
- 25:26of God, when in fact, the Bible gives us all the reasons that we
- 25:30need or all the, all the evidence that we needed that.
- 25:33But then since you had commented that on our chat there, I'd like
- 25:36to hear what you have to say in regards to that pressure that we
- 25:39get from from the holy people to perform this, this, whatever it
- 25:44is. Yeah, Jesus says something very
- 25:50interesting and all of these baptism of the Holy Ghost
- 25:53preachers, I find they often preach the Holy Ghost much more
- 25:56than they preach Jesus. When Jesus actually said when
- 25:58the spirit of truth would come, he will not speak of himself,
- 26:01but he'll speak of Christ. So people become filled with the
- 26:05Holy Spirit when their focus and their emphasis is on Jesus
- 26:09Christ and they speak boldly in his name.
- 26:12But Jesus said in in Luke 1113, if he then being evil know how
- 26:18to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall
- 26:21your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask
- 26:24him? And so to me it's not something
- 26:26where you need a great big evidence of it.
- 26:31You ask God and you trust Him for it.
- 26:33You're about to go speak, you're about to go speak to somebody
- 26:36about your message. You're about to help someone
- 26:40with their, their, their hurts and their life, whatever they
- 26:43might have. You're going to counsel
- 26:44somebody. You say, Lord, fill me with your
- 26:46spirit and you walk in faith of that and you trust, hey, if my
- 26:50son asked me for a piece of bread, I give it to him.
- 26:53And I wouldn't give him a rock. I wouldn't give him a serpent in
- 26:55place of the fish. I would give him the spirit.
- 26:57And so I trust that God is going to fill me with the spirit as I
- 27:00speak. And like, like Melvin was
- 27:03saying, saying when, when Stephen was speaking or when
- 27:06Paul was speaking, it says he was full of the Holy Ghost.
- 27:09How do you know? Or look at his boldness?
- 27:11Look at his clarity, look at his his conviction.
- 27:14Look how passionate. I mean, you could just, you can
- 27:16fake passion, but this kind of boldness that comes out of
- 27:20people that is super convincing and very convicting.
- 27:22It's it's the word spirit of God working in and through them.
- 27:26So I had these people coming at me saying basically that in
- 27:29order to receive the real baptism, yeah, you might be
- 27:33saved. That's great.
- 27:34And I'm glad you trust him in Christ.
- 27:35What you really need now is the filling.
- 27:38You need the baptism, meaning the real anointing.
- 27:41Then you'll be one of the elite Christians.
- 27:43And I struggled with this for a long time.
- 27:45I didn't follow the whole speaking in tongues thing, but I
- 27:48was trying to empty myself of all selfish motive, trying to
- 27:52empty myself of anything that might be vanity or pride or
- 27:55arrogance, and trying to get to this humble, humble state where
- 27:59God would finally be able to use me, where He could put His
- 28:03Spirit in me like a vessel. And I just wanted to be open
- 28:06before him. And I was begging God, praying
- 28:09these things. Where was I looking?
- 28:11Where where was my thoughts is on me constantly on me.
- 28:15How do I become more holy? How do I become more empty?
- 28:19How do I become and I'm looking at these hands trying to perfect
- 28:22my activity and my thoughts and my all, you know, not bad things
- 28:26to try to be a better person. But I, I was reminded of this
- 28:30quote once by some somebody told me that Charles Spurgeon had
- 28:33said this. And I've quoted this so many
- 28:35times since he says, I look to Jesus and the dove of peace flew
- 28:39into my heart. I looked to the dove and it flew
- 28:41away. Like as soon as you get your
- 28:45eyes off of the thing that matters, which is Jesus, the
- 28:49peace will go away, that the joy will go away, the power will go
- 28:52away. In in one of the most confirming
- 28:55things about this whole thing to me is in Acts 4 after the
- 28:59Pentecost movement, they receive the Holy Ghost with speaking in
- 29:02tongues. They baptize thousands of
- 29:04people. But then at the end of chapter
- 29:064, the the the disciples gather together.
- 29:09They're afraid they're quoting something to God.
- 29:12They're praying to him, saying you, you said that the world
- 29:16would be gathered together, the kings of the earth would be
- 29:18gathered together against the Lord and against his anointed.
- 29:20And they did. They gathered against Jesus.
- 29:23They crucified him, but you raised him from the dead.
- 29:26And as they're saying this, they're saying, Lord, help us to
- 29:29do a good job. Help us to be brave and bold.
- 29:31It says that they were filled again with the Spirit.
- 29:34So how did they receive the Spirit?
- 29:36Not by trying to be empty, but by looking to Jesus and walking
- 29:40by faith and rejoicing in His goodness and His grace.
- 29:44I looked for that and never found it.
- 29:46And then I heard the series Sin No More and I recognize I was
- 29:50dead indeed to sin. I was alive unto God.
- 29:53The Spirit of God was living in me.
- 29:54All I needed to do was start walking in freedom by faith and
- 29:58I I experienced things that felt like what those people described
- 30:02about being filled with the Holy Spirit.
- 30:04But I don't, I don't get that all the time now.
- 30:06I'm not looking for that. But I was absolutely overcome
- 30:09with joy and gratitude and confidence and boldness.
- 30:12But it it wasn't about getting the Spirit, it was about looking
- 30:15to Jesus. Sorry I went a little.
- 30:19So that's good. I was looking for that aired or
- 30:21well with anything I'll do. I hate to corrupt something
- 30:26good. Now that sounds.
- 30:31Good. Yeah, that's good.
- 30:33So just briefly and we'll get we we got a few more questions here
- 30:37I really want to touch on. But so like I was just while you
- 30:42were talking there talking about laying on of hands.
- 30:47Big first Timothy 4 says neglect, not the gift that is in
- 30:51thee, which was given thee by prophecy with the laying on of
- 30:55hands of the presbytery and Acts 8 there it says it was Simon saw
- 31:03that laying on of the apostle says that the Holy Ghost was
- 31:07given he offered that money. So when we when we think about
- 31:11this, this Holy Ghost filling or whatever that was, obviously I
- 31:17just find it as an interesting element of this.
- 31:20It was obviously something that was in some cases at least
- 31:24imparted by somebody else, you know, and that is one thing that
- 31:29I do not see practice in our circles that I'm around.
- 31:33Really. And I just kind of wondered what
- 31:36your your thoughts are on something like that.
- 31:39Melvin, go ahead. And then I'll see if Aaron or
- 31:41anyone else, if you know anything.
- 31:42I, I, yeah. Anything on it and any thoughts?
- 31:46Yeah, I mean, obviously like you, the Scriptures, you pointed
- 31:50out it, the Bible does talk about that, you know, that there
- 31:55is a Holy Ghost given power given maybe by the laying on of
- 32:02hands. And so we can't minimize that at
- 32:07all. And I think like you said, it
- 32:08doesn't get practiced very much. And I think the reason maybe
- 32:13that it doesn't get practiced much is because a lot of times
- 32:19when, you know, but you guys were saying earlier when when
- 32:23people start putting on you that you're not saved unless you're
- 32:28baptized by the Holy Ghost. Most times those people want to
- 32:32give it to you by the laying on of hands.
- 32:35And so I think we have reacted from that, right.
- 32:40Maybe some of us anyway have reacted from that.
- 32:44And but according to the scriptures, obviously it's not
- 32:48always the power doesn't always, you know, given by the laying on
- 32:53hands, but sometimes it is. And so I guess I'm not exactly
- 32:58sure what you know, what the when or when not or whatever.
- 33:05I think the Spirit would, would probably give us the how would
- 33:12you say would prompt us probably to do the laying on of hands.
- 33:15If, if, if, if that was God's will, but it's definitely not.
- 33:19Most times it's abused because people are doing the laying on
- 33:25of hands so that they look like they're super spiritual or they
- 33:28have a special power, which we see in Acts chapter 8, right?
- 33:31That's that's what Ananias wanted.
- 33:33He he, he coveted the power. And, and Paul there said your
- 33:39heart is in the wrong place. You're not supposed to be
- 33:41coveting the power. You're supposed to be looking to
- 33:44Christ and, and in the, you know, not coveting the power.
- 33:49So I think that's most times where that gets out of hand,
- 33:53but. Yeah, I mean, Kelly comes.
- 33:55Back to what dad was saying like what is what are we think?
- 33:59Why don't we try to gain by doing this, you know, this
- 34:03transfer whatever, Aaron, any thoughts on that?
- 34:05I know maybe a little bit off top of what we.
- 34:09Well, I mean, I guess it kind of addresses one of the questions
- 34:12that I had thought of myself was I guess I'm more asked my own
- 34:18self, this question when I'm about to answer it is, you know
- 34:20what what brings on the gifts of the Spirit?
- 34:23Like what is it when someone when it says, well, well, let me
- 34:27say something first. It almost never refers to a a
- 34:36speaking in tongues or some some miraculous gift as the baptism
- 34:40Holy Ghost. In fact, if you look it up, if
- 34:42you type in the word baptism or just be a BAPT in a little
- 34:47concordance and then and then holy like Holy Ghost or Holy
- 34:52Spirit, it'll only appear like 9 times in the same verse
- 34:55together. And the only time that it is
- 34:58ever referenced and A and a event is referenced as being the
- 35:04fulfillment of it is in Acts. Jesus says not many days hence
- 35:07you're going to be baptized and he references the verse and then
- 35:11you see him gather together in this upper room.
- 35:13The the tongues like fire coming down on them.
- 35:16But other than that, the only time baptism the Holy Ghost is
- 35:19mentioned is in reference to John compared to Jesus.
- 35:25Like you'll never really see it together in a, in a, this was a
- 35:30manifestation of a, of the baptism, the Holy Ghost.
- 35:33Just just kind of, but I said that to say this.
- 35:36So when I say what brings it on, a lot of times I'm only
- 35:41referring to verses that says they were filled with the Holy
- 35:44Ghost or they were full of the Holy Ghost.
- 35:47It rarely ever says, you know, they got this.
- 35:51The one time they're in Acts chapter 2.
- 35:54When they get it, it is, it is received.
- 35:58It's brought on by the promise because that's what Jesus says.
- 36:02He says to the disciples there before he ascends back to
- 36:06heaven. You're, you need to stay in
- 36:08Jerusalem until you get the promise of the Father, which you
- 36:13heard of me, right? That's what he says.
- 36:15That's Acts chapter 1, four through 8.
- 36:17You need to stay here. So in that instance, it's just
- 36:20the promise of God that brings it on, right?
- 36:22It's not necessarily their desire.
- 36:24It's not someone laying the hands on them.
- 36:26It's just the promise of God that brings it on the other
- 36:31times. You all already mentioned the
- 36:32laying on of hands, but one that Acts chapter 8 there, you know,
- 36:39when when Peter is laying and is laying hands on people and Simon
- 36:44desires it, you know, but he sees that the laying on hands is
- 36:48what what gives gifts to people and Simon the sorcerer says,
- 36:53Hey, I'd like to buy that gift off of if I could.
- 36:55You know, that's that's the Acts chapter 8.
- 36:57Acts chapter 19 It says in verse 5 that when the and when they
- 37:04heard this, this is the one, this is the people that Paul
- 37:08runs into that have not even heard if there is any Holy
- 37:11Ghost, Paul runs into them. Acts chapter 19 verse 5 And when
- 37:15they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord
- 37:17Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands
- 37:20on them, the Holy Ghost came on them and they spake with tongues
- 37:24and prophesied. So that was another instance of
- 37:27laying on of the hands. And then somebody already
- 37:29mentioned first Timothy 414, in which Paul references Timothy as
- 37:35having that experience that the elders of the press do.
- 37:38The elders laid their hands on him and he received that gift.
- 37:41And the only other instance is a fervent desire.
- 37:46We already talked about that. Dan referenced it in Acts
- 37:49chapter 4 when they were desiring.
- 37:53You know, let me set that scene up for you.
- 37:57They've killed the Lord. They get the boldness to speak
- 38:01on the Day of Pentecost by being baptized by the Holy Ghost.
- 38:04And they get up and my goodness, it worked.
- 38:06Well, it was 3000 people got saved.
- 38:08So they're probably thinking, well, maybe this might not turn
- 38:10out too bad. Well, then the then the
- 38:14persecution is turned up and they're threatened and beaten
- 38:18and they come back together and they say, hey, we're going to
- 38:20have to have some help here to keep preaching this the way we
- 38:23need to. So they have a fervent desire to
- 38:28receive the Holy Ghost. No, it's them desiring.
- 38:30It. But it's because they see that
- 38:32the pressure, and when I mean pressure, I'm saying the
- 38:36persecution is turned up. So we're going to have to have
- 38:39something outside of myself to keep me motivated to put my life
- 38:44in danger to speak this message. So in that case, it was a
- 38:48fervent desire, but it was a fervent desire to keep spreading
- 38:51the message, not to do something themselves, right?
- 38:56So, and then the negative side of that would be Simon the
- 39:00sorcerer has a firm desire, but he's not got the right kind of
- 39:04desire. So that was the only three ways
- 39:07that I saw that it comes about is by promise, like God has just
- 39:14promised it's going to happen. And it comes on people as a sign
- 39:18or a wonder or whatever. And then by the laying on the
- 39:22hands and then by fervent desire.
- 39:25Like that's to me, that's the three ways I see it coming to
- 39:27pass, how it comes to people. Is that one of those three ways?
- 39:31But here again I forgot the question.
- 39:37The question was about laying out of the heads, but you just
- 39:40you just guided us through the three different ways that it
- 39:43does come, which is which is actually really good to help
- 39:46round that question out because that was that was going to be
- 39:50one of my questions. You guys are answering these,
- 39:53you know, before I ever get to them in in this way, which is
- 39:56good because you know, if it is something that we should desire,
- 40:00as you put it, Aaron, then then we should know.
- 40:05When we need it or or how to get it right.
- 40:07And so you just explained that really well on on what we'll
- 40:11come back to that a little bit. Dan, any additional thoughts on,
- 40:14you know, as far as laying out of the hands or any other part
- 40:17that they're expected? Yeah, it seems to me that laying
- 40:21on of hands is is obviously the spirit is given on a couple
- 40:25occasions like Aaron pointed out with the laying on of hands.
- 40:28But in the case of Timothy, first Timothy 414 where he
- 40:32received this gift, I believe it's a gift of ministry that he
- 40:35receives by the laying out of hands.
- 40:37It's mentioned again in second Timothy 116 where Paul says,
- 40:42wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up
- 40:44the gift of God, which is in the by the putting on of my hands.
- 40:49So the presbytery and Paul, the leaders of the church put their
- 40:52hands on Paul, on Timothy, and then he went forward preaching
- 40:56the gospel. And now Paul says, keep stirring
- 41:00up that gift. It was laid up.
- 41:01You received that gift of ministry and service to the
- 41:04church by the laying out of hands.
- 41:06And you need to kind of keep stocking it, so to speak.
- 41:09And so it's not, it's not always about receiving the Holy Ghost,
- 41:13he says in in First Timothy 22, laying hands suddenly on no man,
- 41:18neither be partaker of other men's sins.
- 41:20Keep yourself sure. So to me it seems it's more in
- 41:23this context, it's more about the ordaining of a man for a
- 41:27certain gift or some other man prophesied about Timothy that he
- 41:32would be the leader and and how he would make me use his gifts.
- 41:35And then they together laid their hands on him.
- 41:38Same thing happens on multiple occasions when Paul and Barnabas
- 41:41are sent. They gave him the right hand of
- 41:43fellowship. They sent them out doing a
- 41:44thing. They laid their hands on the
- 41:46elders. They prayed for them so that
- 41:48they could go do their. They're like, they're given that
- 41:51already, so to speak. And so these speaking are these
- 41:54laying on a here, I don't think are so much receiving the spirit
- 41:57at this point a more an ordination or issuing of a
- 42:02ministry. Yeah.
- 42:05Yeah, and I think that that's a good point.
- 42:08It's it's like, it could be like even in that case, there was
- 42:12probably times that Timothy was filled with the spirit, right as
- 42:16he does that thing. So I do I think it, but I think
- 42:19you touched on a great point that it is people are not laying
- 42:23their hands on other people so that the other people but Babble
- 42:31or blabble, they're in front of them so they can feel good about
- 42:34their salvation. Yeah, right.
- 42:36They're laying their hands on them to say go out, do this
- 42:40thing. In fact, you could see that, you
- 42:43know, like in, as you said, in other instances, which they
- 42:46would lay their hands on the people and, and the the point
- 42:48was the gospel would continue to be spread in that area or that
- 42:52place or, or whatever. So it it it's always for a
- 42:55purpose, not just so I can feel like I'm right.
- 42:59But it seems like the Scripture is like you pointed out, Dan,
- 43:03where it says, you know, he told Timothy not to lay hands.
- 43:07Suddenly I'm no man. It seems like the Scripture is a
- 43:10little bit hesitant about that specific thing about the laying
- 43:16on of hands, and I believe that is it's because it can be
- 43:21quickly used in the wrong way, which is how it happens most
- 43:25times it seems like right, But I do you know, it is in the
- 43:29scriptures, you know, like you guys pointed out.
- 43:32So I think we can't totally throw the lane on the hands out
- 43:35necessarily, but it it's something that you just don't
- 43:41run around doing for your own puff your yourself up or make
- 43:45yourself look good. Well, as you were talking there,
- 43:50you know, again, the late lay on of hands, you know, might not be
- 43:53as as specific of a thing as as we think, you know, we think on,
- 43:59you know, laying on of hands, like going and and just, you
- 44:02know, put your two hands on somebody and and bestowing them
- 44:06with you this blessing or a gift or whatever, whatever it is.
- 44:10But if you look in that's also in Acts 5, there it says verse
- 44:1712 and by the hands of the apostles were many signs and
- 44:20wonders wrought among the people.
- 44:22And this is where, you know, where the shadow touched them in
- 44:25the streets, you know, so they laid people in the streets, you
- 44:27know. So what I'm saying is, you know,
- 44:30it's it maybe just not necessarily a specific thing
- 44:33even, you know, but it's something that that, although I
- 44:36think it obviously can be, I mean, it does specifically talk
- 44:39about laying on of hands in that case.
- 44:41But you know, as a general rule too, you know, this the stuff
- 44:45they were doing there in X5 again, was for the I like how
- 44:50you set up Melvin, the, you know, the fathering of the
- 44:53Kingdom of God. That's that's always going to be
- 44:55the the drive behind these these gifts or anything really, that
- 45:00ice paint body to to fall back on or use tools.
- 45:03I think he was put at their head.
- 45:06Well, I'll give you a concrete example, though I've never done
- 45:09this myself. If you had somebody that you
- 45:12could tell had the desire to be a missionary or whatever, you
- 45:16know, like here's this couple or person that says we are feeling
- 45:21very called to go to such and such a place.
- 45:23Do I think it would be a good idea to come and literally lay
- 45:27our hands on them and wish and pray that the Spirit, would they
- 45:31be filled with the Spirit and go and prosper in this place?
- 45:33I think that'd be very appropriate.
- 45:35You know, we can hear there's a concrete example 100%.
- 45:39I was, I was ordained, I was ordained at a local church here
- 45:44some years back. I'm no longer in that position
- 45:46now. But yeah, we, we very much
- 45:48practice that when someone was being commissioned to a work, we
- 45:52would lay our hands on and pray for them and, and ask God to
- 45:55anoint and bless and and prosper their ministries and such.
- 45:58So yeah, I think that's an appropriate way to lay hands on
- 46:01the most, my far the most ridiculous, inappropriate,
- 46:05unbiblical example of laying hands is these faith healers
- 46:08that are like pushing people back and having the spirit of of
- 46:12whatever they're working with knocking people over and people
- 46:16rolling on the ground laughing and all kinds of nonsense that
- 46:19gets done in the name of Christ. It's pretty disgusting.
- 46:23I agree. One other thing, Aaron, I'll
- 46:28direct this kind of at you. For those of you that don't
- 46:31know, we had a chat kind of about this subject just to pose
- 46:35different instances. But one of the one of the
- 46:37questions was, is there a difference between having the
- 46:41Holy Ghost and having manifestation gifts of the Holy
- 46:44Ghost? And I mean that that's and a
- 46:48specific, but I'm really curious as to what you, you touched on
- 46:52it just a little bit before, but what what was your thoughts in
- 46:54regards to that? Yeah.
- 46:56Yeah, Like you said, I did kind of touch on it earlier in the
- 46:59sense that you have, you have referred to there in act in
- 47:07First Corinthians chapter 12 as a manifestation of the Spirit.
- 47:11Like and the reason I think that's relevant to the
- 47:14conversation is let me turn there.
- 47:17First Corinthians 12, I'm not going to do it because I just
- 47:22get sidetracked. But I would encourage anybody to
- 47:24read the whole chapter because the context of it is like he
- 47:28starts out the whole chapter talking about it.
- 47:32And he even says in verse 4. Now there are diversities of
- 47:37gifts, but the same spirit, right?
- 47:39That is all are partakers of the same Spirit, but there is
- 47:43diversities of gifts that would come out of that spirit.
- 47:47So and then and then the verse I read was first Corinthians 12,
- 47:52verse 7, where he says the but the manifestation of the spirit
- 47:56is given to every man to profit with all.
- 47:58And he goes on to tell different manifestations of that spirit in
- 48:03those people. So I do think that there is AI
- 48:08think there is a well, like I said, a working out of a, a, a
- 48:15manifesting, which just means a, a showing for us or a revealing
- 48:19of that spirit in some action like prophesying, like speaking
- 48:24in tongues, like healing, like whatever.
- 48:28But but there is a difference in that and a person just having
- 48:32the, the spirit dwelling in them.
- 48:35Like that's kind of the, the point I was wanting to make by
- 48:37that. And here let's let's go to 1st
- 48:40Corinthians 13. And he says this in verse eight,
- 48:44First Corinthians 13 and verse 8, he says charity never fail
- 48:47us, but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail.
- 48:51Whether there be tongues, they shall cease.
- 48:54Whether there be knowledge, it it shall vanish away.
- 48:58For we know in part and we prophecy in part.
- 49:01And the reason I am kind of bringing that up is because I
- 49:05said this real early on. There's a difference between
- 49:09salvation and for in this argument, I'll say the
- 49:14manifestation of the Spirit, you know, like the this, this
- 49:19baptism of spirit that would result in some kind of
- 49:23miraculous gift. And it is different because
- 49:27salvation is not in part right. I mean, I guess you could argue
- 49:31that we're, we've not received our new body or whatever, but
- 49:34I'm just saying salvation, to the extent that your name is
- 49:36written in the Lamb's book of life is not in part, but these
- 49:40manifestations he just said are in part.
- 49:43These gifts are in part like in in a, in a measurement or in a
- 49:48in just a part of something, because that's what he says
- 49:51there we prophecy in part. And then he also says invert and
- 49:58well, again, I won't read the whole chapter, but I would
- 50:01encourage you to read all of first Corinthians 14 because
- 50:04really 1213 and 14 are all relevant to this topic, right?
- 50:09But first Corinthians 14, all that chapter he is, he's
- 50:14basically talents that they vary in greatness because listen what
- 50:17he says in the 1st Corinthians 14 and verse 5, he says, I would
- 50:22that you all spake with tongues. And we may all cringe at that,
- 50:26especially on the topic we're saying, but but he does make I
- 50:29wish you all spake with tongues, but rather that you prophecy for
- 50:34greater is he that prophesized than he that speaketh with
- 50:39tongues, except he interpret that the church may receive
- 50:44edifying. So he basically just said that
- 50:48these gifts of the spirit vary in greatness.
- 50:52Would you remember that greater is he that prophesized than he
- 50:54that speak of the tongues. So again, I would refer you
- 50:57back. It's not like salvation varies
- 51:02like I'm not more saved than you.
- 51:05You know what I mean? Like it doesn't vary in that
- 51:07form. It is you're either saved or
- 51:10you're not. Whereas these gifts can vary in
- 51:13in that also in first Corinthians 12 and verse 13, he
- 51:17says this, he says, because this is relevant to the salvation
- 51:21side for by 1 Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether
- 51:27it be Jew or Gentile, whether it be bond or free and have all
- 51:30been and have been all made to drink into one spirit.
- 51:36So again, it's not like there is a it's not like there's a a
- 51:45variation or a varying of whether or not you're in that,
- 51:49but you're in that body or not, right?
- 51:52You're in the body or you're not.
- 51:53Whereas these gifts not we actually read that verse
- 51:57earlier. Not all prophecy, you know, when
- 52:00he asked that question do all prophecy do all speak with
- 52:03tongues. We said the answer was no, not
- 52:05everybody does that but everybody that saved is a
- 52:09partaker of that body. And I know that Dan reference
- 52:12said earlier that this is I guess a little different
- 52:14instance that it'd be the the spirit doing the baptizing here
- 52:19and so the Jesus baptized with the Holy Ghost.
- 52:21So I recognize that, but but I do think that there is a
- 52:24difference between having the spirit or being, I'm going to
- 52:31refer to it as filled with or full of the spirit because you
- 52:34have the spirit, it dwells in you, all those that are saved as
- 52:41as long as you are a believer, you have that spirit in you.
- 52:45But I think there's times as somebody referenced earlier,
- 52:49there's times that people. Were.
- 52:51Filled with they go sometime they're refilled with the spirit
- 52:56right there. It's not like that.
- 52:58It's not like that they he's not trying to say that they are
- 53:01saved and then now they're re saved when they get refilled.
- 53:05The spirit they're saved the whole time.
- 53:07But there's a difference between like that.
- 53:11I don't know I'm not comfortable saying that.
- 53:14I don't know if I would say that like we made that reference
- 53:18earlier than Acts chapter 2. Jesus says you're going to be
- 53:22baptized with the Holy Ghost. Not many day sins.
- 53:25I don't know if I would say that in Acts chapter 4 when they pray
- 53:30for new strength and it comes on them again and they they do
- 53:34receive it. I don't know.
- 53:35I don't know if I mean I'll be glad to hear what you all think
- 53:38about it. Do you think you'd call that
- 53:40another baptism of the Spirit or is that why he just refers to it
- 53:44as they were filled with the Spirit?
- 53:45Like, I don't know what I think about that.
- 53:46I don't know if I would, if I would say that baptism of spirit
- 53:50is just a one time thing or if it would be if that's what's
- 53:54happened every time, but somebody was filled with it.
- 53:56Like I don't know what I think about that.
- 53:57I don't know what, what do you, what do you all think about
- 54:00that? Well, isn't that what some
- 54:04people would kind of team the second work of the cross?
- 54:07Isn't that what they're talking about when they talk about the
- 54:10difference of, you know, being saved and having the Spirit of
- 54:15God? But then that second work that
- 54:18is the empowering you, wishing you to go and fulfill the task
- 54:24kind of a thing, you know, but in my own mind, this is shaped
- 54:30by, you know, this study at other times that we that we
- 54:33talked about these kind of things is that there's actually
- 54:36an ebb and flow. You can have less of it after
- 54:39you've been filled, you know, you could be unfilled and be,
- 54:43you know, not, not devoid of, but definitely there's times in
- 54:48my life, I mean, just just even on a very personal level,
- 54:51there's times when I have spoke where I was was the Holy Spirit
- 54:59when the power of God came upon me, you know, or whatever.
- 55:03I think anyone that's ever probably preached has
- 55:05experienced that. There's other times when it just
- 55:08seems like that, that well is pretty dry, you know, and, and I
- 55:13could never, I could never actually, I'm just talking very
- 55:17openly right now. I could never quite figure out
- 55:20how to make it that I've always filled, you know, like if I
- 55:25could, if I could fight where that valve is, you know, and
- 55:28just turn it wide open all the time, I definitely would.
- 55:31But I think that God is wiser than I am.
- 55:34So I'm going to let him decide when it's important for me to
- 55:37have that feeling or other, you know, prophets, brothers and
- 55:42sisters around me. You know, if, if, if there's
- 55:45such a thing as the laying out of the hands that that kind of
- 55:49transferred or brings this on or whatever, then I'll leave it up
- 55:52to God to, to you don't have that happen.
- 55:56I guess I, that's kind of how I look at it.
- 55:58I don't know what your thoughts are on that.
- 56:02I think our focus should be the profit of all.
- 56:05We should be looking to profit other people with whatever gifts
- 56:08we have and then use them to the best of our ability and then
- 56:12covet earnestly the best gifts. So why?
- 56:14So that we can profit the church even more.
- 56:16But I think very Aaron made some really good points there about
- 56:19the evidences like nobody ever preaches the gift of the Holy
- 56:23Ghost with the evidence of being bitten with serpents like it.
- 56:26It just doesn't. It's not a teaching.
- 56:28It's not a doctrine that you know, hey, you haven't really
- 56:31been proven that you're a Christian until you've been
- 56:33bitten by a serpent, right? Like it it's it kind of falls
- 56:36apart, but he's saying that some are going to speak in tongues.
- 56:40Wow, that's amazing. Those are the apostles did I
- 56:42never did. That's fine.
- 56:43But God showed up and he evidenced himself was speaking
- 56:46in tongues. God evidenced himself with
- 56:48prophecy. Agabus came and prophesied Paul.
- 56:50Don't go to Jerusalem. You're going to be bound and so
- 56:53on and so forth. And, and John, the John, the
- 56:55revelator, he received the, the, the revelation from God and he
- 57:00prophesied many things that would happen in the future.
- 57:02We're not all prophesying. We're not all being bitten with
- 57:05serpents. We're not all speaking in
- 57:07tongues. But God is evidently showing up
- 57:09all over the place in many different ways and categories.
- 57:12And it's, it's a neat to me where you just put your hand to
- 57:16the plow, you get work and you do some service to profit others
- 57:20and God will show up. I, I can almost guarantee I, I
- 57:23can't always put my finger on it.
- 57:25But sometimes as I'm speaking, as I'm preaching, as I'm sharing
- 57:29the gospel with an individual, suddenly I'm saying things I
- 57:32don't know that I know like that there's a gift of knowledge, a
- 57:35gift of wisdom that comes, but you don't get it by sitting in
- 57:39your room waiting for it to come.
- 57:42You go serve, you go profit with all.
- 57:44And then the the Spirit will come in and make himself
- 57:47manifest. Amen.
- 57:49That's well, hey, what else is that?
- 57:51Yeah, that that's great. You stole my Thunder there.
- 57:54Then that's not. I was going to say it, but no,
- 57:56that's fine. I was just going to say it.
- 57:58So to me, like when we read, you know, the baptism of the Holy
- 58:02Ghost, and then we later read filled and filling and being
- 58:08filled, in my mind, that's like all the same, so to speak, Like,
- 58:14you know what I'm saying? I I don't difference that so
- 58:17much. Like it's, it's where the
- 58:20baptism or the feeling or whatever you term you want to
- 58:23use of the Holy Ghost is something that is not a one time
- 58:27thing. Obviously where you're going to
- 58:31seek it, desire it like a lot of people try to make you do.
- 58:35And then you're going to somehow, all of a sudden get it.
- 58:38And now you have it. It.
- 58:40It's where God is giving it out as he sees fit.
- 58:44And when like you were saying that, and that's so beautiful
- 58:47when we're walking, not thinking about having the baptism of the
- 58:51Holy Ghost or the feeling of the Holy Ghost, but just working for
- 58:56his Kingdom. And but while we're doing that,
- 59:01God is going to show up and fill us with the Spirit and give us
- 59:05gifts of the Spirit at when it is needed, whether it be
- 59:11obviously in Corinthians there it says it's for the edifying of
- 59:15the church. Sometimes in Ephesians chapter
- 59:194, it said for the work of the ministry.
- 59:22So it's I guess all those things kind of combine but.
- 59:30Yeah, for sure not aired. Any additional thoughts?
- 59:34This is not exactly the quit I know the question, the question
- 59:38there was something I had asked myself was what's the, you know
- 59:41the difference? But but I'm going to say this on
- 59:46the on the aspect of of having the spirit like being saved and
- 59:54this feeling of the Spirit is two different things because let
- 59:57me read you this Acts chapter 8, Acts chapter 8.
- 1:00:02We've referenced it several times, but we're always talking
- 1:00:04about Simon wanting the thing. But listen to this.
- 1:00:07This is Acts 8 and verse 12. It says, But when they believed
- 1:00:09Philip preaching the things concerning the Kingdom of God
- 1:00:13and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and
- 1:00:16women. Then Simon himself believed
- 1:00:18also, and when he was baptized, he continued to fill up and
- 1:00:21wondered, beholding the miracles and the signs which were done.
- 1:00:25Now, when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that the
- 1:00:29Samaritans had received the word of God, they sent on them Peter
- 1:00:33and John. Now, I mean, surely none of us
- 1:00:37would argue that those people are not saved, right?
- 1:00:39I mean, now Simon, you might argue with him, but but I'm just
- 1:00:42saying he's not saying it like these people were not these
- 1:00:46people were they had heard the word, they had believed those
- 1:00:49things. These people are saved at this
- 1:00:52point, right? Already saved because they
- 1:00:54believe the message and believed on the name of the Lord Jesus
- 1:00:57Christ. But it says in verse 15, who
- 1:01:02talked about Peter and John when they were come down, prayed for
- 1:01:04them that they might receive the Holy Ghost.
- 1:01:08For as yet he had not, He was not fallen upon none of them,
- 1:01:13only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus, then
- 1:01:16laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy
- 1:01:19Ghost. So.
- 1:01:21That's one of the reasons I say it's not the same thing.
- 1:01:23Like, I think these people were already saved, but they had not
- 1:01:27had this feeling of the spirit. Would you agree with that?
- 1:01:31I mean, would you agree with that analysis of that?
- 1:01:33Yeah, for sure. Yeah.
- 1:01:37Yeah, no, that's, that's 100% right there.
- 1:01:39There's definitely a flow there that, well, I tell you what or
- 1:01:45how it is up and we're going to jump it off right there.
- 1:01:49The only word of encouragement or direction that I would give
- 1:01:52on this whole topic to anyone listening is is go share the
- 1:01:57gospel. Go and do the work of the Lord
- 1:02:00and he will see fit that you have the power to do it.
- 1:02:04You know, I, I don't doubt his ability.
- 1:02:07I might not know exactly the, the, the, the way he's going to
- 1:02:11do everything, but I do know that he is able to cause you to
- 1:02:17say the word that he needs and stuff like that.
- 1:02:20So anyway, yeah, keep at it. Keep your chin up, keep your
- 1:02:23head up, read the word, be in the word and he will guide you,
- 1:02:27lead you, direct you. Hey, thanks brothers.
- 1:02:30Appreciate this time. It's great.
- 1:02:31Great study like always. So we'll sign off.
- 1:02:34Thank you very much. Have a great week.
