- 0:02Welcome. To Brothers Grappas episode 30
- 0:21where this edition we are going to be doing the long, long, long
- 0:27long-awaited review of Project House in Leeds in Yorkshire
- 0:36where North Wrestling LDS 64 took place.
- 0:43For everything is all caps and happened on the same weekend
- 0:49that saw For The Love of Wrestling in Trafford, not
- 0:52Manchester. I refused to claim that as
- 0:55Manchester where we saw arguably the best match of the year to
- 1:03date. A lot of you will know what
- 1:06match that is because you have good taste hopefully.
- 1:12But to discuss that show, we are joined by someone making their
- 1:19official debut on Brad's grappas, though really it is
- 1:24their second appearance. That having been the case, we
- 1:29recorded a show if you can cast your minds, back to October time
- 1:37when North did their previous show and due to the audio being
- 1:44so badly screwed up that it will never make the airwaves.
- 1:49Sadly this is the the real debut.
- 1:54So to put it one way, imagine someone scoring a hat trick and
- 2:00then the game gets rained off and it never existed, which like
- 2:08a lot of my episodes so far. But as I say, making his
- 2:13official debut on brothers grappas, the correspondent for
- 2:18the Northeast as I'm making him from all things N podcast.
- 2:25We welcome Harry to the podcast. Hello.
- 2:28Hello. Hello, hello.
- 2:30It's good to be officially not back, but back.
- 2:34Yeah, that's that's the best way to look at things really.
- 2:38I think just just, we'll just say it was a really bad show and
- 2:44we did not want to put it out. That's that's true.
- 2:49Even though there was so much just horrible things that we
- 2:52said. It can.
- 2:53It can never. Even though I've gone on record
- 2:57as saying it was one of the best shows we ever did, no one will
- 3:02ever hear it, at least by all the help I had.
- 3:09Hey ho, what do you know? We were originally going to be a
- 3:17free trio on this podcast as I was going to have my good friend
- 3:23and boss from the pencilled in podcast in Nicki, but schedules
- 3:31have not allowed that to happen. So I know you'll be watching
- 3:35Nikki. So hello, I know you won't be
- 3:38watching or listening. You have better things to do
- 3:41with your time. Where is why I don't?
- 3:44So we will get onto the show because we have been talking for
- 3:51quite a while before we've recorded this.
- 3:55We we should now have our feet up and be doing whatever we
- 4:00want, but no, we've had a good old chin wag to catch up.
- 4:06But you know, that's, that's what happens.
- 4:11So to give it a bit of a funny Bones reference, on a cold cold
- 4:22night in Leeds down a cold dark dark St in a dark dark venue.
- 4:31I was on that occasion while we packed up because it was
- 4:37absolutely fucking miserable travelling over.
- 4:42Anyone that travels to these lead shows, especially from like
- 4:49the northwest side. I don't know if it's the same
- 4:53coming from from up north, which again, we we had this discussion
- 4:58off it being told you're southern when when you're in the
- 5:03northwest and someone's hired does not sound very right.
- 5:08But the the bad weather that always seems to attract coming
- 5:15to Leeds and traffic problems seem to just go hand in hand.
- 5:22I think if Nikki was here she'd probably tell you it's always
- 5:24the same, just trotting the M62 or travel as it is.
- 5:31But despite the the cold and the freezing conditions, we have the
- 5:38warmth of wrestling. Yeah, as we all return back to
- 5:46Project House for the third instalment that Norfolk brought
- 5:51us, I'll ask you what do you make of Project House?
- 5:58Actually one. It's a strange venue because for
- 6:05one, it's just looks like you would never see a wrestling show
- 6:10in there in a million years. 2 You get pretty much frisked at
- 6:17the door from head to toe if you've got anything on you.
- 6:21Like, I know my girlfriend last time we went, she sort of, she
- 6:25wasn't allowed to take like her umbrella in or certain makeup
- 6:29stuff. I wasn't allowed to take like a
- 6:31can of deodorant that I had. And I remember coming back out
- 6:36and it was raining and they pretty much just left everything
- 6:39in the rain, which is really annoying.
- 6:41There's a unisex toilet, which I still find kind of bizarre.
- 6:48And then I don't know, I mean, it was warmer this time than it
- 6:52was last time, but it it wasn't very warm.
- 6:55It was it was weird. It was warmish.
- 7:00I remember Liam Slater was on the the Patreon podcast for
- 7:04North and he was like, I much prefer this because it's so much
- 7:08warmer than anarchy. And I was like, yeah, I was like
- 7:18when Newcastle is cold, but the Anarchy is such like a tight
- 7:22venue and there's a lot of people packed in.
- 7:25So it warms the place up where whereas Project House is quite
- 7:32open, like there's a big garage door that was, it's pretty much
- 7:35open the entire show for people to come in and out.
- 7:38So like it can get quite cold in there.
- 7:43But thankfully, compared to the last show, which was on a Friday
- 7:46night and was a bit up and down in terms of the show, this was a
- 7:53lot better crowd, which made for a better just overall
- 7:58atmosphere. Thank God, which is what I think
- 8:01Bowers and the rest of people at North were praying for because
- 8:04it seemed like whether they came back to Leeds was kind of
- 8:07resting on this show. And I mean, as we'll talk about
- 8:11it, thank, thank God, delivered in terms of wrestling and the
- 8:15atmosphere as well this. The first show was a massive
- 8:20success. Yeah.
- 8:23And it was also in the summer. People got a sun tan.
- 8:28I know someone that nearly got heat stroke that went.
- 8:34I shouldn't laugh, but I just found that funny.
- 8:37The second show, I think because it was on a Sunday, this time
- 8:45it. Yeah, that's right.
- 8:46Yeah. It didn't help because when you
- 8:51have it on a Friday or a Saturday, you can have the
- 8:54people, the main North faithful can travel down and they've got
- 9:00a whole kind of like weekend they don't have to worry about
- 9:04like late trains or whatever. So having it on a Sunday, I
- 9:07think that put a lot of people off, which told with the
- 9:12attendance as well, because it was not to be a big crowd on
- 9:18that occasion. Having it on a Friday night did
- 9:25do a lot better. It will be interesting to see
- 9:29what the Saturday crowd is going to be like.
- 9:32I feel for the we will touch upon later on on the podcast.
- 9:41The the venue. I it's, it's a bit of a quirky
- 9:46one. It doesn't feel like a an actual
- 9:50like wrestling venue and you you look at it.
- 9:55Yeah. But it has a there's not enough
- 10:00venues that have a bit of a quirkiness to him.
- 10:03A lot of them are just like sports halls or church halls.
- 10:08And it's just like we're, we'll just put a ring in it, which is
- 10:12pretty much what a lot of wrestlers all do.
- 10:15They'll go to venues and they'll go you could stick a ring in
- 10:18here. Yeah, probably how that came
- 10:21about in lead someone went yeah, just like yeah, you could you
- 10:26could fit a couple 100 in it, which I'm not complaining about.
- 10:31It saves me a lot of money compared to booking a certain
- 10:38well known hotel chain up in Newcastle that you can find
- 10:45anywhere. Lenny Henry might be trying to
- 10:48sell you a bed for the night. Not that I'm saying he's hard
- 10:53on, he's on his luck and he now sells beds.
- 10:55But you, you know the chair and I'm on about.
- 11:00But we will touch on the pre show.
- 11:06So I have written a lot of notes for the show but I've condensed
- 11:10them down because I had 1.14 pages until I realised I had the
- 11:21the font on 16 and then put it down to 11.
- 11:26And we are a lot less we are half that.
- 11:31But yes the the pre show was that of Ian Skinner, the coldest
- 11:38guy in the room. Cool guy with lots of friends.
- 11:42Ian if you're watching this, hello he took on Billy O'Keefe
- 11:50someone I'm not fully I don't fully know but I know he works
- 11:56at True Grit Wrestling and quite a few people have said good
- 12:02things about him. Had a good chat with him
- 12:06actually after the show. Really good guy.
- 12:10So the match itself though, as I repeat what I've just said.
- 12:17The coldest guy in the room, Loads of friends, Tries many
- 12:22underhanded things after knocking O'Keefe down to the map
- 12:26with a shoulder block. Attempts to spit on his
- 12:31opponent, but O'Keefe moves out the way, only for Ian to then
- 12:37hit the map himself and falling right where he spat.
- 12:42Nice little comedy spot there, I thought.
- 12:46Skinner then removes the turnbuckle pad using his
- 12:49necklace as a weapon. With Ref Katie having so much
- 12:57trouble trying to keep Skinner in line in this contest, Skinner
- 13:02then shoves her into the ropes. This was when Keef tried to do a
- 13:09I don't know if he was trying to do a springboard move because we
- 13:13never saw what he was intending to do.
- 13:16But obviously Skinner pushing Katie causing O'Keefe to fall
- 13:24wasn't the the nicest fall from the ropes because he kind of
- 13:29collected the other rope on the way down, which is slightly
- 13:33gnarly. Skinner then goes to use the
- 13:36necklace again, but we see him and Katie having a little tug of
- 13:42war over it. Katie, again, much like a couple
- 13:48of times in this show, seems to take more bumps than quite a lot
- 13:54of the wrestlers on this show. This is O'Keefe hitting a
- 13:59leaping springboard forearm to pin Ian Skinner.
- 14:06After the match, Ian pushes Katie claims he that she cost
- 14:13him the match. Katie who is not one bit the the
- 14:21feistiest or kind of the angriest person, but dear God
- 14:27she hit one of the best stunners I've seen for a long time.
- 14:31I'm Skinner. Skinner sells the the the
- 14:35starter better than the rock and you can quote me on that.
- 14:41Ends up in one of the most awkward positions in the rope.
- 14:46Katie kind of just milks the applause, as she bloody well
- 14:50should, just to kind of like get the crowd all hyped up.
- 14:56What was your take on on this contest, if you can remember
- 15:01that? Fab.
- 15:03Well, I was going to say I was on my way to the hotel.
- 15:06I was on my way. I just left the hotel ready to
- 15:08go to the show. And you know, my girlfriend's
- 15:11getting ready. I'm thinking, you know, we'll
- 15:13we'll still be there with plenty of time.
- 15:16I'd messaged Bowers on Instagram to be like, is there going to be
- 15:20a pre show match just because if there is, I'll try and get there
- 15:23a bit early. If not, I'll I'll go for the
- 15:25show start. As we were sort of waiting for
- 15:29our Uber, they put they put on their Instagram Scott story
- 15:32about who's ready for a pre show match.
- 15:35And I was like, God damn it, I knew this would happen.
- 15:38But we just got there. I think as Skinner was making
- 15:41his entrance. But yeah, it was a pretty solid
- 15:44match, to be fair. I mean, it definitely got the
- 15:47crowd involved straight away, which I think was kind of the
- 15:50intention of having Skinner on this show because that's what
- 15:53he's really, really good at. I was the same.
- 15:57I've never really heard of of O'Keefe, but he definitely
- 16:00impressed me. I think that was my first time
- 16:02seeing him. So that was really good.
- 16:05And then obviously, I mean K is refs all over the place.
- 16:11I was telling you before we started filming that I went to
- 16:14like Daisy Jenkins charity show in in Edinburgh and she was
- 16:18reffing up there and then she always refs at North at
- 16:21different shows in like the Northwestern things.
- 16:24So to see a get a nice little spot there and like you say, it
- 16:29is to milk the stunner for everything that it was is is
- 16:32what you want to see. But yeah, that was a great way
- 16:35to just kick things off. Because it's the the thing with
- 16:41Katie on this show. I even Sandy beach as well.
- 16:46They took their lumps on this show but my God they they gave
- 16:51them back in a few times but two of the my favourite referees on
- 16:58the scene. But after we have the the fun of
- 17:06the pre show, we then started off with the battle of the
- 17:12initials, as I've called it, as MLD took on HMD man like De
- 17:21Reese against hard man Dan this Oh, I'll ask you this before I
- 17:33go into like what happened? What were your three thoughts
- 17:37going into this match? Well, I think the they've been
- 17:48building up a sort of story in North about HMD and how he's on
- 17:53a bit of a losing streak and he's been trying to build
- 17:56himself up. He's trying to sort of give
- 17:58himself this false reassurance that like, no, I'm going to win
- 18:02this time, everything's fine. I'm not having a complete
- 18:05meltdown. I'm completely saying.
- 18:08Whereas obviously Derice, I mean it doesn't really have much
- 18:12story direction in North at the moment, but you sort of don't
- 18:15need one because he's mine, like Therese.
- 18:16So he shows up and does his thing and like everyone's
- 18:20involved. Therese.
- 18:26Is what I didn't know was that he had another book and on the
- 18:30same day I assumed he'd opened the show to just get the crowd
- 18:34involved because of the fact that the last show was a bit.
- 18:38The atmosphere definitely at the start of the show was a bit
- 18:40down. So I assumed, all right, get
- 18:44Therese out first. He gets the crowd up, but
- 18:47clearly there was another reason that he'd started the show.
- 18:50Yeah, that that other reason being that he was on progress at
- 18:57the Beck Arena, which I, I'll very quickly touch on this as I
- 19:04think I did before the Beck Arena, that is the bowlers
- 19:08Exhibition Centre. If it's called the Exhibition
- 19:13Centre, you do not need to call yourself an arena, you are a
- 19:17centre. Just stay at BEC, drop the
- 19:21arena. That's my little Ted Talk.
- 19:24Thank you for coming. But yeah, the I went into this
- 19:29thinking because I've seen Hardman Dan a couple of times.
- 19:36One, I saw him at Bridge Pro in A tag team, I think it was with
- 19:44Emperor. I can't remember who they were
- 19:47facing off the top of me head. And we didn't really see a lot,
- 19:53a lot of him. So I couldn't really make like a
- 19:59judgement on him. Then I saw him at Thunderstruck.
- 20:04And my opinion went up a lot higher because he did a lot
- 20:09more. Yeah.
- 20:12And then I saw him taking on Derise and I thought this kind
- 20:17of feels like it's just almost feel like it's been put together
- 20:22a bit because Padman Dan, I know kind of helps PPW.
- 20:29But then again, at this point anyone who isn't from Yorkshire,
- 20:32that isn't it. PBW where what you do?
- 20:39It slims on XT very much. Yes, but I've there's been a few
- 20:45people I've seen that have been like down on undone that they
- 20:50don't think he's that good. I personally think he's he's
- 20:55good. You I think the kind of like his
- 21:00character at times can get slightly lost because I think
- 21:06he's still been like working like what?
- 21:10What really am I? What's the character, What am I
- 21:14doing? And it's progressed every single
- 21:16time I've seen him. This was him almost thinking,
- 21:24right, I I need to win this. I have to win this.
- 21:27I'm going to give everything I can.
- 21:31I've lost a couple of matches. I don't want to be like a loser,
- 21:35whatever. So we we came into this matchup
- 21:41and you know, Debris being the shy reserve type, he is sorry.
- 21:49Making new friends with a group of lads that we sat near the
- 21:53stage area bringing a lot of energy.
- 22:00There was a point where I'm thinking with these like
- 22:03trainees that had like come down to like help out and I think it
- 22:09became very quickly, no, they were just here for a good time.
- 22:15To which I think Derise at times forgot he was supposed to be
- 22:17wrestling and also had to dash off later on enjoying himself
- 22:22far too much. I genuinely think at one point
- 22:27for oh crap I'm meant to be wrestling but we we finally get
- 22:33him in the ring and we had both men having near falls.
- 22:39Hard man Dan gains control, then kind of pokes the bear by
- 22:45ripping the do rag off Derice, which is the equivalent of
- 22:51pulling on Superman's Cape. Effectively Derice fires back.
- 22:57We we then have one of the all time chants this year where a
- 23:05section started chanting you just a shit Rob Beckett to our
- 23:10time hard man down and the more you looked at him and the chant
- 23:15you thought I can say that. And I think even even Dan had to
- 23:22like he was corpsing at one point and had to cover his face
- 23:28and Derise kind of derise will laugh at anything.
- 23:33To be fair, you don't know if he's ever corpsing or just him
- 23:39himself. And for those outside of the UK
- 23:43who don't know who Rob Beckett is, it is in reference to a
- 23:47British comedian. So we we then have had man Dan
- 23:55in my words getting chopped the fuck in this much whose chest
- 24:01looks like a Robin by the end of it.
- 24:04Adrice then hits a back-to-back German suplex followed by a
- 24:09blockbuster off Brett's rope. Dan replies with a knee to the
- 24:15face for a 2 before multiple pinball attempts and then we
- 24:23have a great back and forth of a matrix cutter from Derise.
- 24:29Attempts a sharpshooter but Hardman.
- 24:33Dan Rakes the eyes and then finds himself in a ankle lock.
- 24:37Submission hold counters it but we'll only see Derise land
- 24:43perfectly to put a cross face on him.
- 24:47He then gets to the ropes, a hard man down, then hits a big
- 24:51spine Buster followed by a even bigger slam for a 2 count.
- 24:58And for the second match in in a row, the rule breaker goes after
- 25:03the referee. Hamanam pushes Sandy Beach, who
- 25:10tries to compose herself. Nope, she shoves him, gets a 2
- 25:18count. Luckily for him, but Derice will
- 25:22pick up this win with a sharpshooter of which he had
- 25:26threatened many times in the contest.
- 25:30A great opening match. One of the best opening matches
- 25:35you'll see anywhere in a time of 15 minutes and 17 seconds After
- 25:45the match it sees Hard Man Dan putting his hand out to Derise
- 25:51and the lyrical Dragon just kicks the hand away.
- 25:55Performs a kind of Michael Jackson grabbing the crotch and
- 26:01dancing away, much to the bemusement of Hard Man Dan as
- 26:07Derise returns to the boisterous lads for another rendition of
- 26:13Free From Desire and Dancing Away.
- 26:18Almost having to be pulled away and told you you need to go now,
- 26:22your your planet needs you. But yeah, that was a really a
- 26:30fun contest. What were your thoughts on it?
- 26:35Yeah, I thought it was a great opener and I thought I thought
- 26:39it would be because I think, I mean Therese can't really have a
- 26:44bad match. I mean, I'm I'm quite surprised
- 26:47there Reese isn't somewhere like NXT or AW.
- 26:50And I don't think I think we should probably enjoy it while
- 26:55it lasts because there's I feel like within the next year or two
- 26:58he's probably going to be gone. And HMDI think, I think he's
- 27:05grown massively I think over the last year.
- 27:08I mean, the last leads show, he had one of the one of the better
- 27:12matches on that show. I think it was him and and Joe
- 27:14Wade had a great match and they had a series of matches in North
- 27:19that I thought were all really good.
- 27:22But yeah, that's just exactly what it should have been.
- 27:24I think Derise pointed out that HMD was wearing his pyjamas to
- 27:29the ring, which was fantastic because it's what everyone has
- 27:34been saying for the last couple of shows.
- 27:36Like where is this weird sort of grey joggers ring gear come from
- 27:43with like HMD just sort of it looks like it's just sort of
- 27:48glued on to the side of his pants.
- 27:50But whatever. Whatever floats you bought, I
- 27:53suppose. But yeah, I mean, I think HMDI
- 27:58think he made like his Rev Pro debut not long ago, like he's
- 28:01been with Liam on a few Rev Pro shows and stuff.
- 28:04So he's definitely been getting more opportunities lately.
- 28:08But this is probably the biggest opportunities had in North for
- 28:13quite a while. And yeah, they seem to be
- 28:16continuing this story as well where he's on a bit of a losing
- 28:19streak. And yeah, I mean, he did offer
- 28:23his hand to Derise, which Derise was right now.
- 28:25Definitely not because of the way you've acted over the last
- 28:29however long. So there's there's definitely
- 28:32some story there. But I mean, as sometimes happens
- 28:37with N, you know, some people are on certain shows and then
- 28:40they're missing for a few and then they come back.
- 28:42So he wasn't on the last Anarchy show.
- 28:45So we didn't really get any update there.
- 28:46But hopefully, you know, if he's on the Leeds show next week,
- 28:50we'll that might continue. But yeah, he's been on a bit of
- 28:54a losing streak for a while now. I think he lost at the the big
- 28:58Weekender. I think he might have lost
- 29:00twice. One was to James Storm, which I
- 29:05mean, it's James Storm, So what do you expect?
- 29:08And then at the start of the game he was in a four way with,
- 29:12I think it was Jack Marshall, George Hunter, who's really
- 29:16impressive as well. I mean, we'll talk about him in
- 29:18a bit. And black, yeah, he does blacks
- 29:24amazing as well. I feel like does blacks very
- 29:26underrated. But so yeah, he lost that much
- 29:31and lost against Derise, which again, I mean it's Derise.
- 29:36So Derise loses very few matches on the Indies.
- 29:43I was going to say it's one of those times where even a loss
- 29:49can make you look better. And this is one of those times
- 29:53where, despite it being a loss, he came out of this even better
- 29:59than he was going into it. Yeah, yeah, I'd like, I'd like
- 30:04to see where they go with it because it's it felt like he's
- 30:08had a different sort of reaction every time he's lost.
- 30:11Sort of with James Storm, he was just very angry and very bitter.
- 30:15And then after the fall where it was kind of like he was just
- 30:19trying to sort of motivate himself to be like, no, this is
- 30:22definitely he's like, you know, this is this is my big chance
- 30:25now I've got the Reese. I'm going to win.
- 30:27Everything's fine. And then he lost in in a great
- 30:30match. I mean, it's hard to have a bad
- 30:33match with the Reese. And then, yeah, his reaction was
- 30:38sort of to offer the handshake, which, I mean, we don't know
- 30:42what would have happened. I mean, he might have baked out,
- 30:45but it seems sort of like he's just completely lost his
- 30:49confidence. That's the narrative they're
- 30:51going with. So we'll see.
- 30:53But it's as far as those group of lads go.
- 30:55I mean they were all night long. They were absolutely mental in
- 30:59all the in all the in the best way possible.
- 31:02Yeah, because I think after that first match, I thought this this
- 31:07is either going to be really good or really bad because if
- 31:09they get super hammered, you know, and grab someone or or do
- 31:15something or start a fight or something else like this, this
- 31:17could end really bad. But thankfully they just all
- 31:21night long. They were like N biggest
- 31:23supporters, which was really nice.
- 31:24And I think when North did their Patreon podcast, I'm sure that
- 31:29said that spoke to the lads after the show and asked them
- 31:32sort of, you know, why, why they wanted to come along or if they
- 31:36were even wrestling fans. And I can't remember exactly off
- 31:39the top of my head what that said.
- 31:40But I think one of them was maybe a wrestling fan and he'd
- 31:43just seen a flyer for the show or seen something like a
- 31:46Facebook group and brought along a load of his friends.
- 31:51Is that I just, I me and my girlfriend were talking about it
- 31:53after the show and I was like, I feel like they were just like on
- 31:57some sort of mad stag do where they just stumbled upon North
- 32:00and just had a great time. It seems so.
- 32:06We then go to match #2 which was the stronger than Yorkshire Tea
- 32:16in Alexis Falcon. I'll refrain from the the Falcon
- 32:20impressions on this episode. At least she took on Alfie.
- 32:27Both were accompanied down at ringside with their cuddly
- 32:31managers. And I do mean cuddly, with DD in
- 32:37Alfie's corner and Alexis Falcon getting the the biggest name out
- 32:44there possible to accompany her down to ringside.
- 32:49Steamboat Willie himself on West Disney are listening.
- 32:54Then it's definitely not Steamhouse Willie Mickey Mouse
- 33:02with Falcon claiming that Mickey is better than DD and the Leeds
- 33:08crowd chanting shitty little mouse.
- 33:12Alexis then says to Dee Dee why don't we have a wrestling match
- 33:16with with the teddy bears. Again, this could be someone's
- 33:22like drugged up Dream just having people threatening to
- 33:28wrestle with teddy bears. It could happen.
- 33:34But of course Alexis does use the term.
- 33:38Does anyone to see this shitty little mouse have a wrestling
- 33:41match? And of course the crowd went
- 33:43yeah gosh he did. So when Malcolm, when Falcon
- 33:50gets close enough to Alfie, sticks over before punches are
- 33:56in the head. And on the Patreon commentary,
- 34:02which most of these notes, if not all my notes have come
- 34:07courtesy of the North Patreon, don't forget to subscribe.
- 34:13But I'll give you that a little plug then off.
- 34:17Just saying. Tom Campbell tells us on
- 34:21commentary that Falcon has denied us the dream match of the
- 34:26century, Mickey versus DD. So right Tom, so right Falcon.
- 34:35Netherlands A fisherman suplex as Dee Dee is thrown by Alfie to
- 34:43technically make this A2 on one handicap match for a moment.
- 34:49She then rolls her up for a 2. Alexis misses with a kick but
- 34:54scores with a big knee to the head.
- 34:58Alfie tries to fight back, Falcon revelling being in
- 35:03control of the contest and giving it to the Leeds fans to
- 35:09they respond with you're too old for Disney and the shock on her
- 35:14face is a sight to behold. Dee Dee interferes again.
- 35:23Has to be easily the most meddling manager in professional
- 35:26wrestling. I feel Every single match that
- 35:30Alfie ever has, Dee Dee is somewhere just interfering but
- 35:35never gets looked at. Falcon uses Dee Dee again to
- 35:42smother her opponent while grabbing Dee Dee and then froze
- 35:46it. Oh sorry Dee Dee then Dee Dee.
- 35:50This is where it all gets confusing.
- 35:53Alfie grabs Dee, Dee, froze it at Alexis again to distract her,
- 35:59which she does. Hits a sling blade.
- 36:03Alfie scores with a rising leg attack in the corner.
- 36:07Front face suplex with Falcon then returning the favour with a
- 36:13Death Valley driver for a 2 count.
- 36:17Falcon then picks up picks up DD again.
- 36:20Take a shot ladies and gentlemen, every time DD gets
- 36:24mentioned and you'll be as sober as those lads were at that show.
- 36:32Not saying they were drunk. Allegedly.
- 36:36We'll say allegedly. I can't get sued then.
- 36:39Alexis then picks up Dee Dee, punches her out of the ring,
- 36:43which draws the biggest aeration from the crowd.
- 36:51Alfie then hits a cutter for a near fall.
- 36:54However, the best thing to come out of hole since Dean Windas
- 37:00hits a German suplex, quickly picks her foe up, puts her in
- 37:05the ropes and hits her with depending how you want to go
- 37:11about this, Falcon's Fury if you're old school or off with
- 37:18her Head if you're new school to take the win in 7 minutes and 7
- 37:25seconds. It did not feel 7 minutes and 7
- 37:30seconds it felt longer and I mean that in a good way because
- 37:36you can have some matches that will drag the hell and it and
- 37:42his probably gone. About two minutes after the
- 37:48match, Alexis Falcon continues the beat down, ripping the turn
- 37:54buckle pad off and again on a on a night for the zebras where
- 37:59they seem to just be beaten all the way through, ref Katie gets
- 38:05thrown about. We then have Alfie being thrown
- 38:11into the exposed turnbuckle, and before Falcon can add any more
- 38:18damage to her opponent, we hear the sound of Youngblood and
- 38:24Natalie Sykes running down to ringside to make the save before
- 38:29Alexis Falcon runs behind the curtain to avoid everyone and
- 38:36Natalie Sykes. Not before Sykes grabs Mickey
- 38:41and launches it up the ramp. Poor old Mickey, the innocent
- 38:47bystander in this entire kind of picture.
- 38:53Sykes then raises Alfie's hand to to gain the kind of the
- 38:59crowds favour. And that's kind of how that
- 39:04whole segment finished. What was your view on Falcon and
- 39:11Alfie and anything to go along with it?
- 39:16This match was so bizarre and such a fever dream because me
- 39:24and my girlfriend were sat next to each other probably about two
- 39:28minutes before the end. She went to the toilet and came
- 39:31back and she says, did I miss anything?
- 39:34And I was sort of like, I think so.
- 39:37But I I can't, I can't explain what you've missed.
- 39:41Yeah. I was like, Mickey's been
- 39:43thrown, Alexis Falcon has killed the doll dead, Natalie Sykes
- 39:54came back and yeah, it was mental.
- 39:59I mean, it was a good match. I think like this is probably
- 40:02only my second time that I've seen Alfie, but I do like the
- 40:07gimmick that she has. And Natalie's Natalie kind of is
- 40:12the same as sort of like we've said with like Therese or.
- 40:17With Ian Skinner where they're just really good at getting the
- 40:19crowd involved. So I think a lot of people at
- 40:23the start of this match sort of thought this is the match with
- 40:28like the least sort of big name value on this show.
- 40:31So I'll go for a quick smoke break or toilet or drinks or
- 40:34whatever. But it was a match that was
- 40:38definitely had its plays on the card and the right person one,
- 40:43because I think Alexis has been like a big part of North over
- 40:46the last year or so. And she's been having a feud
- 40:49with Natalie, which again, it's kind of been on and off because
- 40:52of the fact that that they both get booked a hell of a lot in
- 40:57the UK. So you can't always have them in
- 41:00the same place at the same time. But they've kind of picked up on
- 41:04their feud that they left off at the end of last year, which is
- 41:07the same as we'll talk about in a little bit with Rio and
- 41:11Emerson where yeah, it was Natalie wasn't advertised for
- 41:17the show. So it was good to see Natalie
- 41:19come back and hopefully they'll have a continuation of that
- 41:25feud, maybe going into Thunderstruck or something like
- 41:28that. But yeah, it was it was a decent
- 41:30match. I think it had its having its
- 41:32second on the card was probably the right choice as well.
- 41:36And yeah, it's it's served its purpose.
- 41:38It wasn't a five star, let's just say that, but it's served
- 41:40its purpose. Because it's, I mean, if you
- 41:44have a lead show, you know Sykes is going to be on it.
- 41:49Yeah. I think there's a good bet when
- 41:52it's in Leeds there's going to be certain ones you will see and
- 41:59I was constant after the match I kept saying to Nick and Michaels
- 42:04with if Sykes does not come out I feel cheated.
- 42:09And as soon as Young Will played I thought there we go.
- 42:13I feel happy now because I've said before I am a massive Sykes
- 42:20fan. Strangely enough, most of my
- 42:25times I've seen Saks has been a bridge pro being like the the
- 42:30very kind of like bratty kind of plays up to like the 21st
- 42:36century liability character that she does.
- 42:41Plays that character to an absolute T Superb shouting at
- 42:50kids, which is always I just love my kind of like real real
- 42:57breaking wrestlers doing. But seeing Natalie now on
- 43:02Salford shows, I see her on like a few more things.
- 43:07Always love seeing Natalie one of the the best rising stars I
- 43:13feel. Yeah.
- 43:15And having her rivalry with Alexis, I think possibly it
- 43:22could come to Thunderstruck. I think they may do possibly a
- 43:28match in Leeds, maybe as a build up or?
- 43:33Yeah. Wards it, which would make a lot
- 43:36of sense having to kind of Yorks rights on it, and I say that and
- 43:42I say that in a positive light being a Lancastrian, because it
- 43:49didn't spit when I said it. We then, if you have the
- 43:54Patreon, we cut to a promo with Hardman Dan as he I'm sure he
- 44:01takes off his like wrist tape, but I think he'd already took it
- 44:06off in the ring. So maybe he put another layer
- 44:08on. I don't know, but he says he's
- 44:11at a miss of why he tapped out. That's not what he does.
- 44:15That's not what hard man Dan does.
- 44:18He went to shake his hand with Derise, does not understand why
- 44:21Derise didn't shake his hand. He doesn't think he's respected
- 44:26at North. Then kind of questions himself
- 44:31asking himself, is it because I'm a loser?
- 44:34Because I've lost a couple of matches?
- 44:36I don't know what's going on with me and just seems a very
- 44:40confused, doesn't know what's going on for him.
- 44:46Kind of what we said. It's could come down to
- 44:49confidence at the moment for him.
- 44:53At the moment he's in that headspace of I don't know what's
- 44:56what's going on with me. I need to figure things out.
- 45:00So we'll we'll see where that takes us down the line.
- 45:05Match number three, I was going to say, was this the interval
- 45:13main event? I can't remember but match #3
- 45:17was for the for the local crowd, so to speak, was Liam Slater,
- 45:25which to which I feel like we should all turn our backs when
- 45:29we say Liam Slater against George Hunter student versus
- 45:36coach with a PPW flavour. The crowd.
- 45:43I've put down the crowd. We're really up for this one.
- 45:46In fairness, what we had been given in the previous matches
- 45:52had really helped and the crowd just seemed to get louder and
- 45:56louder as we we built up. But they were, they were still
- 46:03really up for this chance for Slater's short shots and kept
- 46:11pulling them up further and further.
- 46:14Good thing it's behind a paywall because any any higher hit would
- 46:19be on only fans. Things then start out with both
- 46:24trying to get the upper hand on the other, Liam being the coach
- 46:28always seemingly having that extra move in his back pocket.
- 46:33Hunter then leaps backwards off Brett's rope when trying to run
- 46:40against later, hits a chop on him, then hits a standing
- 46:45backdrop and standing moonsault. Slater then puts on a absolute
- 46:53master class of a technical clinic really.
- 46:58Ponter tries everything he knows to try and get out of all these
- 47:02holes as he feels like a pretzel for a lot of this match which
- 47:10the crowd are very appreciative of.
- 47:15As we'd seen like a very physical match in the 1st, the
- 47:19second match was a mix of hard hitting and comedy.
- 47:26This was very much a Styles kind of clash of technical against
- 47:33high flying if you like, but even Hunter kind of like adopted
- 47:40what the technical side of things.
- 47:44Slater lands some stiff forearms and numerous submissions to
- 47:49Hunter, but George stays in the fight finding reversals of his
- 47:54own and surprising of that of Slater.
- 47:59We then have a springboard handspring kick off the ropes by
- 48:04Hunter, followed by a shoulder breaker and a back and forth
- 48:09pinning attempt between the two. Liam then dives through the
- 48:13ropes before Hunter thinking no that's my gimmick and then
- 48:20decides to fly over the top rope himself much to the delight of
- 48:24the crowd before Liam Slater ends things with a Gory special
- 48:31into a pile driver, which looked brutal as hell, pins Hunter in a
- 48:40time of 10 minutes and 45 seconds.
- 48:46Slater then raises Hunter's hands and just before he goes,
- 48:52gives him not so much the pat on the back as kind of lifting his
- 48:57shots up to say you're almost at my standards, Which has the
- 49:03crowd's approval as both men leave.
- 49:08Really really fun match. Yeah, this was the best match up
- 49:14to this point. I would say.
- 49:16I still think the best match was to come in the second-half for
- 49:20sure. But and the finish this match as
- 49:23well. I think Liam had like a it's
- 49:29almost like he put him up into like a razor's edge and then
- 49:32pile driving him. It was a crazy finish, but yeah,
- 49:38it's just really good technical style, which can sometimes be a
- 49:43bit hit or miss on any card really.
- 49:47But these are two people that are very, very good at what they
- 49:51do. I mean, Liam's one of the best
- 49:54technical wrestlers around. And and George is still, I don't
- 49:59know how George how old George Hunter is, but he's still like
- 50:02ridiculously young and is very, very good.
- 50:06And I wouldn't be surprised as well if George is someone that
- 50:10very quickly gets signed up somewhere in the next couple of
- 50:13years because he's can do pretty much anything.
- 50:16He proved in this match. He can do a bit of more of the
- 50:18technical style and he's probably more known for his high
- 50:23flying stuff, but it's not it's not his only sort of bag that he
- 50:29can dip into. He sort of has a multiple
- 50:31different styles that he can go and do so yeah, but this up to
- 50:36this point was the best match on the card so far.
- 50:39And it was just they they just pasted out really well.
- 50:43Because I think sometimes if you go to indie show, it's quite a
- 50:47tight knit venue and you try to put on a 20 minutes catches
- 50:53catch, can style match where the fans just want to see crazy
- 50:58stuff. Sometimes it can just be like,
- 51:00why are you doing this? Especially if you're not good at
- 51:03it. But thankfully you have two
- 51:05people who are very good at it and also a crowd that wanted to
- 51:09see it. So it worked very well on this
- 51:12show, definitely. Because it's one of those things
- 51:14of when you have one person that's well known for being
- 51:19technical and everyone knows it, the other person being well
- 51:23known for being high flying and kind of fast-paced.
- 51:30I think having Slater, who's kind of his coach as well, I
- 51:36think what Slater did well, and also George for that matter, I
- 51:44think they worked out a good way to have him show off his
- 51:47technical ability, but also not have the matches being right.
- 51:55What we're going to do is not have you be all kind of like
- 51:59Ariel. We're going to showcase that you
- 52:01have more in your arsenal. You're not just this person that
- 52:05just does like high flying moves and that's just you.
- 52:08There's more yeah about you. So we want to showcase that.
- 52:14And in the long run it's just going to make him a better
- 52:18wrestler because it's. You could ugly make the same
- 52:22case for Leon Slater, a very high flyer and then as kind of
- 52:30like the years have gone by, he's managed to do different
- 52:35moves still majority wise high flying, but if needs be can
- 52:42wrestle like a different style, which I think you need to do if
- 52:47you want to become like a top guy.
- 52:50And wherever you want to go, if it's a high, say it's WWE or AW
- 52:59or DNA or all the other like major ones, you can't just rely
- 53:07on like 1 style because if you do it gets boring.
- 53:11You need to have like a lot of like different things in your
- 53:17arsenal and just showing like a bit of it as well definitely
- 53:22helped. It felt very much a showcase of
- 53:27Hunter and Slater saying this is this is Josh Hunter, this is
- 53:33what he can do, I'm going to do this.
- 53:35But really it was Slater making Hunter look as good as he could
- 53:43at this point in his career because he's not the finished
- 53:47article. He's just going to get better
- 53:50and better and better. But where he is right now he is
- 53:55really good and he can get even better.
- 54:04We then moved to the North ultra violent title between Scotty
- 54:12Rock, the champion and Franco Fate.
- 54:19So I have a lot to notice. I could probably condense down
- 54:24but I don't think I did. The crowd split on this contest
- 54:30with half chanting for Rock, half chanting for Franco.
- 54:37Rock tries to run away from Fate, but he's soon caught by
- 54:42the challenger who drops him on the hardest part of the ring.
- 54:48Scotty then frost chair at Franco.
- 54:51I think he'd frown a drink prior to this.
- 54:55Yeah, I think he did, yeah. But I don't think it's shown you
- 54:59on the coverage. The champ then again tries to
- 55:04leave, sees the challenger grabbing him as he kind of went
- 55:11up the ramp. Franco just grabs him just going
- 55:14Oh no you don't. Brings him back, slams him on
- 55:18the stage, kicks him down the ramp, which wasn't the the
- 55:26nicest ride, it has to it has to be said.
- 55:31And then fate goes hang on. Cuts into the goes into the
- 55:37back, produces a door with barbed wire on it, and half the
- 55:44fans that may have been desperate for the toilet all
- 55:48came running back thinking oh this is interesting.
- 55:54The fight then stays on the outside, which it seems to be
- 55:57half and half this contest, half on the outside, half in the
- 56:02ring, then gets filled with all sorts of weaponry.
- 56:07Scotty Rock thinks it's a Toys-R-Us that are underneath.
- 56:11Shout out Toys-R-Us even though you don't exist anymore.
- 56:16Rock then grabs his skateboard which has barbed wire all over
- 56:21it. Franco then lifts him off the
- 56:25top rope, suplexes him on chairs that were stacked sideways.
- 56:31Well, there was I'm trying to describe.
- 56:35So they had two folded chairs but lay on their side but then
- 56:41locked together. So it's almost like an X with
- 56:45the chairs gets literally suplexed on.
- 56:49That and the look of agony on Scotty Rock and him just going
- 56:58fuck has not left my memory. Fate then tries to work
- 57:05something with chairs, but Rock then nails his opponent with a
- 57:10chair shot or two, drapes his opponent across the two chairs,
- 57:14and hits a moonsault over the oh I moved off the ropes for A2
- 57:22count. Scotty then cut some barbed wire
- 57:26off his skateboard, which on Patreon felt like it was about
- 57:3110 seconds. At the event felt like it took
- 57:35about 3 minutes from. So maybe it's just my memory
- 57:41playing tricks or they just edited it down.
- 57:46Soon finds himself being clothes lined.
- 57:50Fate then tries to powerbomb and spear the champion through the
- 57:54door, which refuses to budget and I am.
- 58:00The door is shouted by quite a lot of people.
- 58:05Me being 1/3 time does the trick.
- 58:11The door with the barbed wire is then introduced and perched on 2
- 58:16chairs. Rock then takes the barbed wire
- 58:20skateboard, sticks it round the neck and throat of fate while
- 58:27fate tries to pull it off. Rock then bites the thumb of his
- 58:32opponent and low blows him before being thrown into the
- 58:37door and Rock hits A2 footed stomp with the skateboard onto
- 58:43his opponent who is already tangled in wire.
- 58:49You may have heard this before. Ref Katie for the second time or
- 58:54probably third time as my notes are not accurate, is shoved on
- 58:59this show as Rock celebrates his victory.
- 59:04A chaotic match in a time of 14 minutes and 57 seconds.
- 59:16Harry, this was, I can't believe this was 14 minutes, but in a
- 59:22good way because there was so much going on.
- 59:26There was very little time between spots.
- 59:31But again, in a good way where it was just like they're going
- 59:35straight at it and then there's chairs and then all of a sudden
- 59:38there's doors. And the Ball Boy skateboard,
- 59:41which got his used in his last couple of Ultraviolet matches
- 59:44with with Lou Nixon. We had a rest with the with the
- 59:50cutting of the. Cable.
- 59:52Yeah, that's true. That was the only rest part I
- 59:54think in this match. I think yeah.
- 59:58And then? Well, I think this is
- 1:00:01unanimously by pretty much everyone I've spoke to was was
- 1:00:05the best Ultraviolet match N have probably done probably
- 1:00:09ever, if not for a very long time because of the fact that it
- 1:00:15was just a lot more violent. You know, it's it's it's far
- 1:00:19from like a death match or anything, but it's for the
- 1:00:22ultraviolet. They want it to be like a
- 1:00:24hardcore title where there are more weapons involved.
- 1:00:27And it's it is kind of your match that you do usually just
- 1:00:32before the end of all. Because then obviously you have
- 1:00:34time to clear away the absolute carnage that was at ringside
- 1:00:38after this match. Because there's, you know, there
- 1:00:41was a door spot on the outside. Well, there's a spot on the
- 1:00:44ramp, then there was a door spot.
- 1:00:46And then there's the other, like you said, the curtain of the
- 1:00:50barbed wire, which definitely was longer than 10 seconds
- 1:00:54because Scotty was arriving at that for a long time.
- 1:00:58Then there was obviously the skateboard spot and then the the
- 1:01:02barbed wire board spot. And then I think the final one,
- 1:01:08which I'm sure Matthew is probably already editing the way
- 1:01:12for botch Romania was the the final table spot, which third
- 1:01:17time lucky Scotty went through. But yeah, this was again, it was
- 1:01:24like this came after a great match that was just before it.
- 1:01:28So people were like, it's hard to follow a really good match
- 1:01:34because the crowd are already a little bit like with with the
- 1:01:38try and calm ourselves down now, whereas this was just like
- 1:01:431,000,000 miles a second, but in the best way possible.
- 1:01:48And yes, Scotty retained so well, they just announced
- 1:01:53yesterday, I think it was that Scott is going to defend against
- 1:01:56Clint Margera next week. So that should be a really good
- 1:02:01match as well. And that plays into the whole
- 1:02:04who's who's going to be the first double champion in North,
- 1:02:06because there's a lot that happened on this show.
- 1:02:09And then the next N show, which we'll talk about a bit later
- 1:02:13involving Trent and Gene. But yeah, this was my probably
- 1:02:17at this point, probably my new favourite match of the night,
- 1:02:19which had happened about three times already.
- 1:02:23Which which is always fun to have.
- 1:02:26Yeah. If if the first match is the
- 1:02:28best and you get about halfway through and you haven't got one
- 1:02:33that rivals or betters it, then that's a slight problem.
- 1:02:39We then put to a promo from Rock on the Patreon where he talks
- 1:02:47about he started out as a misfit when he first started and grew
- 1:02:53up in the British wrestling scene, but he's now comfortable
- 1:02:57where he is talks about wrestling him talks about he
- 1:03:02doesn't wrestle in beer garden death matches because he's come
- 1:03:06to the big leagues in North. I say that just doesn't have
- 1:03:11sent a message just telling me that the show from last Saturday
- 1:03:16is now available. It's almost like no for
- 1:03:20listening to me. So he speaks about he doesn't
- 1:03:25wrestle in beer garden death matches.
- 1:03:28He's come to the big leagues enough to face the hardest men
- 1:03:31around. Touches on stealing the title
- 1:03:36from Big Lou Nixon and then beating quote his ass around
- 1:03:41Newcastle. Says North has slept on him far
- 1:03:46too long and he's still your ultraviolent champion.
- 1:03:51Bollocks out and leaves. To which I think Rock as this
- 1:04:00champion at North I think is a good fit.
- 1:04:04Yes 1. He can wrestle but he can be
- 1:04:08very brutal as well when called upon.
- 1:04:14So I think having him as the Ultraviolet champion, I think he
- 1:04:20will do good things with enough, whether he has the title or
- 1:04:25doesn't, and he's always in the mix.
- 1:04:29It can only be a good thing, yeah.
- 1:04:35Scotty is is very just good at what he does, and that is just
- 1:04:41being mental. I mean, he's essentially a heel,
- 1:04:45but he kind of, I mean, he has great matches every time he's
- 1:04:50been on a North Shore, so people love to cheer him.
- 1:04:54So it was kind of 5050 where it was like Franco is obviously the
- 1:04:59face in this match, but a lot of people just like Scotty Roark
- 1:05:04because he brings that difference that we've probably
- 1:05:07not had for a while because Lee Nixon was the champion before
- 1:05:11and then I think before that was Ace Matthews.
- 1:05:14Yeah. So, and I mean, there hasn't
- 1:05:18been many champions. I think the only other champion
- 1:05:19before that was probably Clint. So Scotty just has a whole
- 1:05:26different dimension that I think they've not had before, which
- 1:05:30which isn't to say Lou isn't good in these death, in these
- 1:05:33ultraviolet matches, but he's far more suited to an actual
- 1:05:37death match rather than having to sort of tone it down a bit.
- 1:05:43Because obviously, you know, I don't think the brewery would
- 1:05:46take too nicely to light tubes being thrown everywhere.
- 1:05:51Really I was just looking. There have been 5 ultraviolent
- 1:05:58champions. Ah, there we go.
- 1:06:01Scotty Rock, Big Lou Nixon? Ace Matthews, Clint Magera.
- 1:06:06Do you want to take a guess at who is the first ever?
- 1:06:10It's not a shock. I'll, I'll be honest.
- 1:06:13Now that I'm thinking about it, I would assume it's probably
- 1:06:16Rory Coyle. And you would be correct in that
- 1:06:18assessment. So we'd gone from kind of a
- 1:06:25action-packed match to arguably the match of the year candidate
- 1:06:35as we had Rio taking on Trent 7. Dear God, I had so many notes on
- 1:06:51this that I had to cut it down and it's still massive.
- 1:06:56So we get told on commentary that this is their first ever
- 1:07:04meeting between the two and after this you you hope there's
- 1:07:09more than one so and even start as Rio attempts a shoulder block
- 1:07:19on Trent who just stands there and goes come on hit me hit me
- 1:07:25has numerous attempts trying to knock him down eventually
- 1:07:32manages to do so seven then chops Rio with oh I I felt the
- 1:07:40chop when he done the first one before he does his all too
- 1:07:48traditional. I will place you by the ring
- 1:07:52post and you will not move at all when I go to do a chop to
- 1:07:56you. Oh, no, no, no, no, no.
- 1:08:00Of course he absolutely chops that ring post with his hand
- 1:08:06bows in front of Jeebus, who comforts him like Mother Teresa
- 1:08:11would have used Jeebus and Mother Teresa in the same
- 1:08:17sentence, but here we are. But it's kind of like what we
- 1:08:23love from the godfather of British wrestling, I suppose.
- 1:08:27And we then have chops galore as both of them just trade back and
- 1:08:33forth. I've I must have been on a mad
- 1:08:37moment because I've then made-up a quote that says how many chops
- 1:08:41can a Trent Real chop if a Trent Real can chop, chop.
- 1:08:46Hello. Pete.
- 1:08:48OK, Pete, whatever I was on that night, I'd love to know.
- 1:08:53That's probably the funniest. I read that and I was laughing
- 1:08:56to myself. I thought that's probably the
- 1:08:57funniest thing you've ever written.
- 1:08:59Are you hanging around with those group that were near the
- 1:09:01stage by any chance? I think the fumes come over by
- 1:09:04that point. Real then drops Trent back first
- 1:09:10on the ring apron I've put on the outside, but where Where
- 1:09:14else with the ring apron be free?
- 1:09:17Solid chops and a flurry of forums from Rio to 7.
- 1:09:23Real them back suplexes, Trent on the ramp, Trent who just lays
- 1:09:31in an absolute mess on the floor, much like those lads were
- 1:09:36probably after a night out at the wrestling.
- 1:09:39And then Trent makes it back with about 9.9999999999.
- 1:09:50And I don't mean that in German. Gets back in the ring, chops
- 1:09:56Rio. Rio then chops Trent, who
- 1:10:03catches Rio and snaps the fingers.
- 1:10:08He then hits a lariat for two. A couple more chops before she
- 1:10:13tells him to F you, you old bastard.
- 1:10:17Which his eyes pop out like up I used to do with spinach as that
- 1:10:25fires up immediately we got more chops and responds with his own.
- 1:10:32Rio flips the bird 7 then grabs Rio's fingers snaps him.
- 1:10:41Yeah, yeah, I've put it the wrong way.
- 1:10:43Rio snaps Trent's fingers earlier than 7 snaps Rio's after
- 1:10:48she flipped in the bird, then before a slap to the fire on a
- 1:10:55short DDT near falls for both people in the match as the crowd
- 1:11:02get louder and louder for every near fall attempt.
- 1:11:07We then have German suplexes and a snap suplex from both as they
- 1:11:12both hit simultaneous crossbodies.
- 1:11:16Crowd all kind of a couple get on the feet and applaud because
- 1:11:20of what we're seeing. We get a seven star lariat and a
- 1:11:25spinning pile driver by Trent to Rio.
- 1:11:30Rio kicks out which shocks everyone including Trent and we
- 1:11:35get a back suplex off the top rope.
- 1:11:40Rio then hits a shoulder breaker and gets a 2 count.
- 1:11:45Rio then hits her version of A7 Star Lariat and gains A2 count
- 1:11:52which she can't believe. Trent goes for the Burning or
- 1:11:57Birminghammer. Rio's foot kicks Sandy Beach in
- 1:12:02the head and after he hits the move goes to check on the
- 1:12:08referee. Rio then kicks Trent in the
- 1:12:11balls. Rio then hits the Rio Driver for
- 1:12:15the one, 2-3 in a time of 18 minutes and 17 seconds.
- 1:12:23What a match. Or as I've put in my in my post
- 1:12:29match notes, standing ovation by the majority of the crowd and
- 1:12:35then in capital letters. Fuck me.
- 1:12:41Yeah, I mean this well, it's no surprise.
- 1:12:45This was my new favourite match of the night Yeah for for the, I
- 1:12:48think 4th time out of the five matches.
- 1:12:52And even though the rest of the show was really good, this is
- 1:12:57the highest of highs because this is been probably the best N
- 1:13:02match I've ever seen, which doesn't really surprise me
- 1:13:06because I mean, it's Trent 7 and Rio who are just both amazing.
- 1:13:10And when this match got announced, this was the match I
- 1:13:13was most excited for, and rightly so because it was very,
- 1:13:18very good. And no matter what ticket you
- 1:13:21paid for in this venue, you didn't pay enough because this
- 1:13:24was incredible. It's they start off quite slow,
- 1:13:30just going into different holds and a few different strikes, and
- 1:13:34then, like you say, sort of take it to the outside.
- 1:13:37I think when Trent goes to do the chop with Rio up against the
- 1:13:41ring post, there's a few people behind him being like, Trent,
- 1:13:45this never works, why are you doing this?
- 1:13:47And he sort of was like, look, I've got this, this is the time.
- 1:13:51It's going to work this time, I promise.
- 1:13:53And then it does not. And then, yeah, back in the
- 1:13:57ring, they just go in hell for leather, just lariats, suplexes,
- 1:14:03just everything you'd want from like just Rio and Trend 7.
- 1:14:08Just going back and forth for, I mean, this wouldn't look out of
- 1:14:14place on WrestleMania or All In or, you know, this was really,
- 1:14:19really good and maybe did a slight bit of damage to Rio's
- 1:14:26character because she's meant to be healed.
- 1:14:29But everyone was like, that was fucking unbelievably good.
- 1:14:32And we can't help but show you respect.
- 1:14:36But I think obviously the finish is what they're trying to play
- 1:14:45into it, where it's like Rio goes into this match saying
- 1:14:47like, you know, I'm going to be trend 7, I'm going to prove that
- 1:14:51I'm the best at North. And she kind of realises
- 1:14:56throughout the match that, OK, maybe I'm a bit in a bit of
- 1:14:58danger here. So that's when the low blow
- 1:15:01comes into it and shenanigans, which I'll try not to spoil too
- 1:15:06much of the the next show at the brewery, but she had another
- 1:15:09match against the Reece and let's just say it may or may not
- 1:15:15have been an almost identical finish.
- 1:15:19So it's become Rio's new tactic. Basically the the low blow for
- 1:15:24the win is is Rio's. She's become what's his name?
- 1:15:30She's become Richard Holiday, and it's a signature move.
- 1:15:34And then, yeah, I think after this match as well, obviously
- 1:15:38Emerson comes to make her entrance, and Emerson and Rio
- 1:15:41have a little bit of a back and forth yellow.
- 1:15:45There's a wall of yellow shirts who try to try their best to
- 1:15:49stop this but never do because of course they get thrown
- 1:15:53everywhere. To be fair, they got to Rio and
- 1:15:58Emerson just stood on the stage laughing and just, like, waving.
- 1:16:02At her, That's true, yeah. Real trying desperately to kind
- 1:16:06of like breakthrough just like let me at her kind of like
- 1:16:10scrappy do in a in a sense yeah. But that that's obviously
- 1:16:17reserved for Holly Barlow, as we kind of all know.
- 1:16:23But the the thing that you touched on about the the crowd
- 1:16:26cheering for for Rio, I think half of it is those that respect
- 1:16:32her. I think the other half is the
- 1:16:35north. When I say north, I don't mean N
- 1:16:38wrestling the northern fans because it's it's great going on
- 1:16:46certain other discords where Rio appears in the South and they
- 1:16:55there's been a few people that don't particularly like that.
- 1:16:59It's always you can pick out the Northern fans that travelled
- 1:17:04when Rio was on a card. Rio could literally like do all
- 1:17:10these evil things, but you will still have like the Northern
- 1:17:14fans that have travelled down cheer Rio.
- 1:17:19It's a blessing and a curse for her, I feel, because I think the
- 1:17:24Northern fans just want to stick it to the southern fans, which
- 1:17:30is, you know, fun in a way. It's like you're it's like
- 1:17:34you're the heels in in a in a town.
- 1:17:40But yes, as you mentioned, Emerson Jane was in the very
- 1:17:45next match as she teamed up with Ronan King to take on Cowboy way
- 1:17:53in one call, Manders and Thomas Shire.
- 1:18:00Also, as we touched on, Rio is leaving Emerson Jane comes out,
- 1:18:04needs security to stop Rio while Emerson just smiles at her and
- 1:18:09waves. Ronan King then comes out in
- 1:18:13cowboy gear due to Cowboy way obviously wearing cowboy stuff.
- 1:18:21And I've put coming comes out to Magic Mike music and I hate
- 1:18:26myself for even knowing that it's from Magic Mike.
- 1:18:31The crowd greets run manders with walking in Amanda's
- 1:18:35Wonderland. As you would very much expect
- 1:18:40Ronan King, who on the video to this was saying to Emerson or we
- 1:18:47should dress up like Cowboys and everything because of who we're
- 1:18:50taking on. Emerson didn't particularly look
- 1:18:55in Ahmed with that idea, but she reveals that under her blue
- 1:19:04wrestling gear, she now has pink chaps on and he's matching with
- 1:19:11Ronan King and wearing all pink. Thomas Shire that the I don't
- 1:19:20know, I just go straight into the match.
- 1:19:21I thought I'd written something else, but I haven't.
- 1:19:24Thomas Shire has the better things early on.
- 1:19:28King then turns around to avoid a chop, instead gets spanked by
- 1:19:34Manders on the arse in his chapless chops, which is a
- 1:19:40mouthful to say cowboy way. Then mock Emerson as a tower
- 1:19:46over her as she gets tagged into the contest.
- 1:19:50But she uses her smarts, has them both miscuing and running
- 1:19:56into each other. As Emerson, Jane uses her speed
- 1:20:01to her advantage. King then tags himself in bad
- 1:20:07mouths Jane, leading to Manders and Shy and beating up King,
- 1:20:12which isn't a bad thing. Emerson then gets tagged back
- 1:20:16in, kicks both on the outside before getting help to hit a
- 1:20:22moonsault. Almost kind of like old school,
- 1:20:26but. Then does a moonsault off the
- 1:20:28top rope to take out Cowboy Way Meteora by Jane to Manders
- 1:20:36before they. We then come to the interesting
- 1:20:40part of this contest as both Manders and Shire How can I, how
- 1:20:48can I word this are ridden by Ronan King and Emerson Jane as
- 1:20:55they have this as I hit stereo German suplexes for two.
- 1:21:01Both wear their cowboy hats and have Shire taking them both out.
- 1:21:06This is where cowboy way kind of go, a bit healish so to speak at
- 1:21:13this point as the fun and games are over because now I'll leave
- 1:21:19that hanging there. King then hits a not what I've
- 1:21:23put, hits a suicide dive, not the word I've put, but I'm not
- 1:21:29going to pronounce the word I've put.
- 1:21:31I don't even know what it says on the outside.
- 1:21:36Jane then hits a Spanish fly on Manders which was beautiful.
- 1:21:42Manders then hits a lariat to Jane who was on the top rope.
- 1:21:48Then a double team from Manders and Shia.
- 1:21:55Almost like a I'm trying to think of the word like a
- 1:22:01decapitation move where you have Shia holding Ronan King and
- 1:22:09Manders just drops off the top row and lariats him into the
- 1:22:13ground. Picks up the win in 11 minutes
- 1:22:17and 52 seconds. After the match, however,
- 1:22:23Manders raises the arm of Emerson Jane.
- 1:22:29And then before we come to your thoughts, we then kind of tie
- 1:22:34into the previous one where real cuts are cuts.
- 1:22:38A programme cuts a promo saying that she's been distracted for
- 1:22:44many reasons, but she isn't the same woman from two years ago
- 1:22:48that lost to Leon Slater, claiming that beating Trent now
- 1:22:53puts her at the top of the company and just leaves while
- 1:22:59kind of pulling an angry face. But what was your take on the
- 1:23:05tag match? Yeah, I thought, again, it's a
- 1:23:09match that kind of served its purpose.
- 1:23:11I think it came off the back of the best match of the night.
- 1:23:14So it was always going to be a bit of a people are still trying
- 1:23:18to recover from that. But the match itself was a bit
- 1:23:25of fun but also very good wrestling.
- 1:23:28I think the stand out probably was Emerson Jane because she was
- 1:23:31taken a lot of the offence from Amanda's and Thomas Shire.
- 1:23:37This is my first time seeing, I think I've seen Amanda's life
- 1:23:40before but I've never seen Shire.
- 1:23:43I've watched a little bit of him from like WXW and stuff and he
- 1:23:48is even bigger in person. He's an absolute giant of a man.
- 1:23:54And yeah, he just spent a lot of the match just destroying
- 1:23:59Emerson and seeing her sort of fight back.
- 1:24:03And then yeah, like you said, some of the spots like the
- 1:24:05Spanish fly and the the moonsault to the outside as well
- 1:24:10was just just really cool. I think Emerson's become like, I
- 1:24:15mean, she has always been a great wrestler, but she is one
- 1:24:19of the people you first look to now if she's on a North Shore of
- 1:24:22like this could be match of the night.
- 1:24:24And I think we spoke a little beforehand about the last the
- 1:24:28show last weekend at the at the brewery.
- 1:24:31I think she probably did have the match of the night there
- 1:24:33with with Nico Angelo. And she quite often wrestles the
- 1:24:37man. It's it's certainly not
- 1:24:39something she's not used to and held our own massively against
- 1:24:46obviously cowboy way. Or again, another couple of
- 1:24:52people, you can say that they probably won't be on the Indies
- 1:24:55for that much longer. I mean, especially Manders
- 1:24:59because he's absolutely everywhere all the time.
- 1:25:02I mean, one week is in Germany, then he's in the UK, then he's
- 1:25:05in the States and like Japan a week after it's it's crazy.
- 1:25:11But yeah, this match itself was really good.
- 1:25:13I thought the stand out was Emerson, and it kind of built
- 1:25:17that story again, of just her fighting back through a lot of
- 1:25:21things. And then you've also got the
- 1:25:23added side of Ronan sort of being a little bit distracted by
- 1:25:27the fact that him and Judas are still not on the same page, and
- 1:25:32he's trying out this new sort of team with Emerson in this weird
- 1:25:37vortex of, like, ignore the fact that he's a heel and she's a
- 1:25:41face. Yeah, and they're somehow
- 1:25:43friends and now have matching cowboy pants.
- 1:25:46Just ignore that. Yeah, It's, it's the, it's the
- 1:25:49Brit Rest vortex. It's just it's going to last 20
- 1:25:52minutes and then you can forget about it.
- 1:25:55But yeah, it was a really good match.
- 1:25:57And Manders drank my beer a little bit, shook my hand, and
- 1:26:04it was very, very good. I mean.
- 1:26:08At least he didn't do what what Judas Grey does later.
- 1:26:13Yeah, sorry Chris. So Speaking of that, we come to
- 1:26:22the main event of the evening for the North Championship.
- 1:26:29G Money defends against Judas Grey.
- 1:26:36This was one match I was really looking forward to and it did
- 1:26:42not disappoint as we will get into in a tiny bit.
- 1:26:49However, we had technically 2 main events on this particular
- 1:26:55match because not only did we have a title bout, we had Nathan
- 1:27:03Black. I don't know why I laughed.
- 1:27:05Then we had Nathan Black come out as this was supposed to be
- 1:27:12the last ride so to speak of the woof and size connection as
- 1:27:23Black who donned a new T-shirt which I don't know if it was on
- 1:27:29on off its buy but I I think you would have had some people buy
- 1:27:36this and it basically had Size Loaf as he basically gave a
- 1:27:44rendition of Meatloaf's version of Bat Out of Hell.
- 1:27:50We have a couple of little tweaks to it, which I didn't
- 1:27:54realise at the time until I listened to it back and changed
- 1:27:59the lyrics to Dog Out of Hell, which I didn't know exactly what
- 1:28:05he was singing on the day. I do know though, having watched
- 1:28:10it on on the Patreon, I'm not. I'm not going to get any bonus
- 1:28:18points for that hammer, really, no.
- 1:28:21Probably not Burden. We can always hope a.
- 1:28:23Man can try anyhow, So he gives the rendition, Grey makes his
- 1:28:36way to the ring. A massive, actually quite a lot
- 1:28:41of support for Grey, to which I've been told from a couple of
- 1:28:47people have been to North shows that Grey has been getting a lot
- 1:28:52of positive kind of fan reaction that shows.
- 1:28:58Seeing as you go to more North shows than than me would, would
- 1:29:01that be an accurate description? Yeah, definitely, because I
- 1:29:06think it started pretty organically from the fact that
- 1:29:12he was just having great matches.
- 1:29:14I mean, there was obviously a point last year where Ronan
- 1:29:17missed quite a lot through injury.
- 1:29:19So Judas was kind of on his own for a while.
- 1:29:24And yeah, it seemed to happen pretty organically because of
- 1:29:27the fact that he was having just really great matches with.
- 1:29:32Well, it seemed to happen more so around the N Big weekend
- 1:29:37where I think he had three matches over the course of that
- 1:29:41weekend and he I think I'm right in saying he lost them all, but
- 1:29:45they were all very, very good. I lost to kid Lycos too.
- 1:29:52Yeah. And oh, let me Scroll down.
- 1:30:03Yeah, it lost a freeway against man like Derise and Leo Rush.
- 1:30:09Yeah. Then lost to Rampage Brown.
- 1:30:15Yeah, that was the one I was thinking.
- 1:30:17Kid like us too. Yeah, which we're all great
- 1:30:21matches. And and like I say, it happened
- 1:30:24fairly organically where people were just like giving him
- 1:30:27applause even though he wasn't, you know, he was very flippant
- 1:30:31with the crowd and very like, I'll just just shut up.
- 1:30:33Like I don't want your applause. That's not what I'm about.
- 1:30:36I'm not trying to impress anyone.
- 1:30:38I'm just trying to win. But it's it's they've obviously
- 1:30:43sort of made it into a story where him and Ronan aren't
- 1:30:45getting along because Judas has sort of lost that sort of
- 1:30:52edginess to his character, where he's not as cut off by shaking
- 1:30:58people's hands at the end of a match or giving someone props
- 1:31:01where they deserve it. Whereas Ronan's kind of like,
- 1:31:05well, what you doing that for? Like, we've never been, We've
- 1:31:07never been about that. We've never been about giving
- 1:31:10people respect. So that's where their
- 1:31:13differences have kind of come from.
- 1:31:15But yeah, Judas is one of the more popular people at North,
- 1:31:20alongside probably Jean and Nathan Black, so hence why a lot
- 1:31:24of people were excited for this match.
- 1:31:28So let's have a look back at what happened.
- 1:31:32So we get a very fast start. Actually, before we come to
- 1:31:38that, as I say, we had a big section of Judas Grey supporters
- 1:31:44in Project House. The crowd chant for the nipple
- 1:31:49tape to come off on Jean, which Money is only too happy to
- 1:31:53oblige. Money then puts his hand out to
- 1:31:57Grey. King distracts the champion,
- 1:32:02with Grey then landing a drop kick followed by a Swanton
- 1:32:09Swanton bomb. Money then hits a Deaf Valley
- 1:32:13driver. I don't even know if the contest
- 1:32:17has actually started at this point, I haven't, but when it
- 1:32:20happens we then get a fast start.
- 1:32:25Money then wants to shake Grey hand again and have a kind of
- 1:32:30code of honour. Ronan King is fuming while he's
- 1:32:34still on the ring apron. Grey sends him to the back and
- 1:32:37says no, I want to make this one-on-one.
- 1:32:41King does not understand this logic.
- 1:32:44No, you, you need me out here and Grey tells him to go back.
- 1:32:49The pace continues with Grey catching money with a leg drop
- 1:32:55on the champion on the outside. I think some things might be
- 1:33:03might have been accidentally deleted.
- 1:33:06Jean then goes to chop Judas, then, as it looks like he's
- 1:33:12going to hit an almighty shop in the corner, blows a Raspberry on
- 1:33:17his stomach. As all good champions should do,
- 1:33:22a springboard code breaker by Judas gets A2 counts.
- 1:33:28We then have standing moonsault knees into the body of Money, a
- 1:33:34nipple tweak and springboard spear by Gene has the champion
- 1:33:40coming back, then lands a throwing suplex or a release
- 1:33:49suplex if you prefer. Not that particular throwing
- 1:33:54suplex that you may have seen. This was a different 1A sit
- 1:33:59down. Powerbomb gets a 2 count.
- 1:34:03Grey then hits a spinning release slam for 2A Springboard.
- 1:34:09Code Breaker is then reversed into a spinebuster by Gene
- 1:34:17Ronan. King then runs down to the ring
- 1:34:20and he's body checked by the incoming Nathan Black who no one
- 1:34:26saw and he's If you watch the the coverage online it really
- 1:34:34does not do it justice how far he travelled to which all the
- 1:34:42lads at the back were dancing along still I think from the the
- 1:34:47Derice opening match and we're just going crazy when that
- 1:34:52happened. We then get the Ainsley Lariat
- 1:34:57which only draws A2 count. Money hits a second release
- 1:35:03suplex to Grey, but listen this time sends Judas flying over the
- 1:35:11top rope into the group of people on the outside.
- 1:35:16Money then hits a second Ainsley Lariat to see the champion
- 1:35:21retain in a time of 15 minutes and 31 seconds.
- 1:35:29After the contest we see Nathan Black picking up the belt of
- 1:35:36Money in a curious way, almost like it is kind of seen treasure
- 1:35:46beyond his wildest dreams. But Black is very quick to then
- 1:35:53give the title back to Money and the woof and size connection are
- 1:35:59not quite splitting yet because Black puts the the seed in
- 1:36:09Money's head of. How about going for the tag team
- 1:36:12titles which if it came off would see Money as a double
- 1:36:19champion, something we have not seen at North Wrestling.
- 1:36:25That then led to Trent 7 coming out liking the sound of Double
- 1:36:31Gold himself and agrees to a title match at the brewery.
- 1:36:38So he then kind of says Bowers get it booked.
- 1:36:43Tag match at the brewery. We then have a bit of a pose off
- 1:36:48with both Money and Black hitting their kind of muscle
- 1:36:54poses and the show closes in Leeds.
- 1:37:03Harris Yeah, this. There's a lot to unpack.
- 1:37:09There is, because especially knowing now what I know of the
- 1:37:13fact that do I spoil what happened at the brewery?
- 1:37:18It wasn't anything. Just give us a thing.
- 1:37:20Just give us a a recap of what happened.
- 1:37:23It wasn't particularly anything crazy, but they did have the tag
- 1:37:27match. Clint and Trent would retain, so
- 1:37:32no double championship, but however, Trent did pin Gene
- 1:37:37money. Hence why if anyone has seen on
- 1:37:40searches and things, Trent is now going to challenge for
- 1:37:43Gene's North title in the main event of Let The Canvas Fly 7 on
- 1:37:49Saturday, Which is good. Yeah, but there's also a lot of
- 1:37:57very interesting things going on because Clint did the move that
- 1:38:03effectively had the match one and he carried the sort of
- 1:38:07latter part of that match. But Trent was the one who rolled
- 1:38:11in, got the three, and he kind of takes the plaudits, which
- 1:38:14left Clint kind of feeling like, oh, well, you know, I kind of
- 1:38:18did all the work there. You kind of just took the pain.
- 1:38:22So I'm not very happy about that.
- 1:38:25And also, there's still the thing of Nathan Black being very
- 1:38:28much like, I like the look of that N tile.
- 1:38:32I might go for that at some point.
- 1:38:35So yeah, there's this. It's kind of they've built it
- 1:38:38really well to the point where there's now four people who
- 1:38:42justifiably have a reason to be either champion or challenging
- 1:38:48for the title. But yeah, off the back of this
- 1:38:50match, I mean, going into this, I felt like it's a lot better
- 1:38:56than the last main event because Jean was against Rampage and it
- 1:39:01was just kind of like Rampage is the hometown guy.
- 1:39:04But we know fine well Rampage is not winning that belt.
- 1:39:09Even though I love Rampage. There was just there.
- 1:39:12They made no sense. Jeanie.
- 1:39:14Gina just fairly won the title fairly recently at
- 1:39:18Thunderstruck. He hadn't defended it that many
- 1:39:21times and it just didn't feel like Rampage was the person to
- 1:39:23take it off him. Even though that was still a
- 1:39:26good match, it just felt like there was zero chance Rampage
- 1:39:31was winning. I still felt like in this match,
- 1:39:35I was still 90% sure Gene was kind of retained, but they made
- 1:39:40me feel a couple of times in this match that, hang on, Judas
- 1:39:43might actually pull something out here.
- 1:39:45And they've built Judas, sort of.
- 1:39:47They've built him up enough to have him win the title.
- 1:39:52You know, theoretically, like it wouldn't be an insane shock if
- 1:39:57they put the belt on Judas. I still think they're still
- 1:40:02trying to play into this Judas Ronan storyline, which again,
- 1:40:06might come to a head at Thunderstruck probably, but.
- 1:40:11Yeah, they there was a couple of near falls in this match,
- 1:40:14especially with the first Ainsley Lariat, where you
- 1:40:17thought like, this is over and then Judas will hit something
- 1:40:22crazy and you think, Oh my God, Judas could actually win.
- 1:40:26Which is how you tell a really good wrestling match.
- 1:40:30You go into a match thinking this is nailed on what's going
- 1:40:33to happen. And then gradually throughout,
- 1:40:35it's like, actually, this could go either way.
- 1:40:40But yeah, Gene won. Then we had, like you said,
- 1:40:44Nathan Black kind of gets it in his head of being like, this was
- 1:40:47supposed to be our last time together.
- 1:40:50This was our. I was going to do the whole sing
- 1:40:53your theme song and that's our Swans song.
- 1:40:56But he says, I'm not ready to pack this up yet.
- 1:40:58Let's go for the tag titles, which ended up not being
- 1:41:03successful fairly but and also I think Nathan Black might have
- 1:41:10got a concussion in that match. There was a a very awkward point
- 1:41:14at the brewery where there was medics involved, which I hope
- 1:41:18Nathan Black's fine. But yeah, this this tag match
- 1:41:24though in Leeds was tag match. What am I talking about?
- 1:41:27This main event in Leeds was very good and so many moving
- 1:41:31parts, like I say with Judas Grabian sent to the back and and
- 1:41:35with Nathan Black sending Ronan King into the atmosphere
- 1:41:40somewhere which was mental. I actually thought it was one of
- 1:41:45the lads who just got carried away and sent Ronan King flying,
- 1:41:49but no, it was Nathan Black. I well, I will say this, it was
- 1:41:56the 28th. Wasn't it?
- 1:41:59Yeah, that's right. Yeah.
- 1:42:01He wrestled the very next night. Oh thank God.
- 1:42:04Oh well, clearly wasn't that bad then.
- 1:42:09And if you. Want to slightly break this
- 1:42:14point up and say this is the non N wrestling section.
- 1:42:18Ironically, he faced Gene money. Actually, yeah, what I'm not
- 1:42:22talking about, I'm sure I turned, I turned on Trilla TV
- 1:42:25and he was wrestling Gene and they were acting like they'd
- 1:42:29never known each other, which is just part of.
- 1:42:32Yeah, to be fair, I I do enjoy shows where it's just like, I
- 1:42:36don't know you. It's like we've we it's it's
- 1:42:41almost like a magician's trick when they say, can you come up
- 1:42:44on stage and shake that? We have never met one another,
- 1:42:49have we? Pick a card?
- 1:42:53Yeah, and on that progress show, Nathan Black was very much back
- 1:42:57to being a heel, back to insulting every single person in
- 1:43:00the crowd. But they're telling the story
- 1:43:03really well in north of like he's a baby face, but no one
- 1:43:10really believes he's a baby face.
- 1:43:12It's like any second now that's everyone in the crowd is
- 1:43:16thinking sort of like any any second now that he's going to
- 1:43:19turn on Gene, which is, you know, they've got us in their
- 1:43:24formula hands, which is the best feeling really, because.
- 1:43:28Yeah, 100%. You don't want to make it too
- 1:43:32obvious, but yeah, if it's too obvious, it's boring.
- 1:43:38But if you just like almost tease and just go well, this we
- 1:43:43he might do this or we might go that way.
- 1:43:48You're immediately the phrase they're playing checkers and I'm
- 1:43:53playing chess all the vice versa.
- 1:43:56Whichever way you want to play it, unless you're playing chess
- 1:43:59and they're playing checkers. Whichever way kind of that idea
- 1:44:04works for how you you go about it, which is what you want.
- 1:44:10Even the the smartest kind of fans enjoy and not really
- 1:44:17knowing which I think there's a lot now that really just we
- 1:44:24don't want to know a lot. We we enjoyed and surprised,
- 1:44:27which is definitely one thing I enjoy.
- 1:44:31So that's why I avoid most things.
- 1:44:34I want to know what's going to happen.
- 1:44:36I want to see it play out in front of me, not what someone's
- 1:44:42telling me. Of course, that means we can
- 1:44:46fantasy book, which is always great and I and sometimes we
- 1:44:54think we're we're better than some promotions.
- 1:45:00I I still have the thoughts of future shock a couple of years
- 1:45:04ago where they went 99% of my idea and I still think my idea
- 1:45:09was better, but I digress. I just got if you have the I
- 1:45:16mean, you may not, but if you have the results of Saturday off
- 1:45:19you, if you can remember any of the results, you can give a
- 1:45:24quick recap before we we all shuttle off to.
- 1:45:30I will try my best. I believe we started with who
- 1:45:38started this show. This is this is going really
- 1:45:40well, isn't it? Oh, it's all right, I can edit
- 1:45:42this. We had a great match, if only I
- 1:45:47can remember who was in the match.
- 1:45:50So great. Was it Emerson and Nico?
- 1:45:52Well. You you did mention them.
- 1:45:56They did have a match, but I think it was in the second-half.
- 1:45:59I know, I know what the first match was.
- 1:46:02It was also very good. It was J Joshua and Daz Black
- 1:46:08who are just both very, very good and absolutely bad at each
- 1:46:13other. It was J Joshua got the win,
- 1:46:18which I don't think is a massive surprise because he's wins
- 1:46:23everywhere goes lately and rightly so.
- 1:46:26He's very, very good. He's another name that is
- 1:46:30everywhere at the moment. I think the the next match was
- 1:46:38Natalie Sykes and. A Luna.
- 1:46:41A Luna. Yeah.
- 1:46:45Oh, there we go. Thank God.
- 1:46:47Save me. But yeah.
- 1:46:49Natalie Sykes and a Luna. This was OK.
- 1:46:52I think it probably the only thing that was lacking was
- 1:46:55probably the fact that there wasn't much of a story going on
- 1:46:58because essentially because Alexis Falcon wasn't there.
- 1:47:04Hence why they couldn't build to this what feels like it's going
- 1:47:09to happen. A thunderstruck Natalie Sykes
- 1:47:11and Alexis Falcon, but again, a really good match.
- 1:47:17Natalie went over, as far as I remember, to build.
- 1:47:22So yeah, I think I heard you one.
- 1:47:26Which it was a match where I don't remember a lot of what
- 1:47:30happened. Similar to Love the last lead
- 1:47:33show where I think Natalie wrestled Holly Barlow in the
- 1:47:37open match and it was like. We we talked about yes quite a
- 1:47:42lot and we because we said Holly is it was if you want to talk
- 1:47:49about weird vortexes, anyone kind of like outside N if you
- 1:47:59said Sykes and Barlow, who's the fan favourite in this match?
- 1:48:05I would say about 99.9% would say Holly.
- 1:48:10Yeah. So to have Holly as the the rule
- 1:48:17breaker, so to speak, in this contest, I don't think helped
- 1:48:23the crowd. I think a lot expected Holly to
- 1:48:27be kind of, well, Holly's always kind of like bubbly and jokey,
- 1:48:32but it it felt a bit off back. What happened there I.
- 1:48:44Think your connection went temporary.
- 1:48:48I think the first time was where?
- 1:48:49You live where I live, which is the middle of nowhere.
- 1:48:56It's not Sunderland, is it? Oh no, thankfully not.
- 1:49:04But I'd have to get that in there.
- 1:49:08But yes, I'll kind of very quickly say what I just said a
- 1:49:13second ago when we talked about Sykes and Barlow.
- 1:49:17Barlow being very much like the fun favourite, who everyone
- 1:49:21loves, Site being the person that everyone kind of hates.
- 1:49:26And then when you come to North, it was the flip.
- 1:49:31This is very weird. And I know a couple of people
- 1:49:36that went found it very confusing.
- 1:49:40Yeah, that definitely came across on the show, even though
- 1:49:45for me I mainly just go a N shows.
- 1:49:49So it was kind of like I'd seen Holly.
- 1:49:53I don't, I think, I don't think I've ever seen Holly live, but I
- 1:49:56knew like her gimmick with Lana Austin.
- 1:50:00But for me, it's like, well, I've only seen Natalie is like a
- 1:50:05face. So this just felt like normal to
- 1:50:08me. But to a lot of the other people
- 1:50:09in the room who weren't regular, Yeah, people at North, it was
- 1:50:14like, why are they trying to tell this story of Natalie as a
- 1:50:16face? And well, essentially both of
- 1:50:21them as faces, but Lorna is kind of the heel on the outside it it
- 1:50:25was a bit clunky. Because it was the thing of
- 1:50:29Holly was trying to become like a heel and this is what you do,
- 1:50:38this is what you do. And I did say at the time, as I
- 1:50:45say, I did say at the time, I didn't say at the time because
- 1:50:48it never got recorded. It was probably the most off
- 1:50:51match on that card and I think it was the first match that
- 1:50:57started it. Yeah, I think it was the
- 1:50:59opening, yeah. And I think that that match kind
- 1:51:02of went with how the show went. It never really got going.
- 1:51:09Yeah. From that point onwards you'd
- 1:51:12have like it went up in like picks and troughs so to speak,
- 1:51:17but it just started a bit funny. But obviously the Leeds crowd
- 1:51:23is, well, you do get a lot of funds from North Travel down
- 1:51:29because as we know in football, if you're from the North East,
- 1:51:34you're a hearty bunch up there and we'll travel anywhere if you
- 1:51:39can do. But Even so, that that room
- 1:51:45didn't feel very much like the last show and the first show,
- 1:51:51yeah, it felt a very mixed crowd, which again, it's just a
- 1:51:58one of those times where shows just don't come off how you like
- 1:52:01it to do. But saying that, what matches
- 1:52:07have we got left? We have three matches left.
- 1:52:11Or do we? No, we don't.
- 1:52:12We have 4, but I'll start from the top.
- 1:52:16Liam Slater and Kemper. Yeah, this was odd because
- 1:52:23Kemper just came back and Liam seems to have gotten a little
- 1:52:27bit more kind of. I feel like his characters
- 1:52:33become like he's more how do I put this more up his own ass
- 1:52:40than he usually is? He's very much like, yeah, I'm,
- 1:52:43I'm back. Like I'm, I'm no longer
- 1:52:45depressed like he was last year, because they were trying to tell
- 1:52:48the story of like the the him and Leon were together and they
- 1:52:54they were the despite there being no relation, they were
- 1:52:58like, you know, the the title hasn't seen a slate of hands
- 1:53:00since for the last three years and we're going to keep it
- 1:53:04forever. And then obviously they they
- 1:53:06have a bit of a falling out at thunderstruck.
- 1:53:09Leon loses the title, goes off the TNA and Liam's kind of left
- 1:53:14by himself and he's just sad and depressed.
- 1:53:16And eventually, you know, Eve Bateman, his partner, kind of
- 1:53:24snaps him out of it. They have a match and that sort
- 1:53:26of brings him back to to life eventually, after months of just
- 1:53:31being sad. Liam with his head down.
- 1:53:35And now, yeah, he's had a couple of wins towards the back end of
- 1:53:38last year and the start of this year.
- 1:53:40I think the plan was to get the postmodern sick boys back
- 1:53:46together, which was himself and Rory Coyle.
- 1:53:48But Rory I think has had like a few health problems.
- 1:53:54So he's kind of taking a step back.
- 1:53:57And I mean, obviously he does a lot of stuff behind the scenes
- 1:54:00at North as it is and has was announced on this show that he's
- 1:54:05now doing commentary for the foreseeable future, I believe.
- 1:54:11So he's now one of the new full time commentators.
- 1:54:15So Liam's kind of in this weird position where he's, they
- 1:54:19probably planned to do more with Liam and Rory, but it seems to
- 1:54:23be like, OK, we've had to think of something else.
- 1:54:26So Liam sort of, it feels like gone back to his sort of older
- 1:54:30gimmick of like, I'm, I'm feeling a lot more confident
- 1:54:35about myself and I'm feeling like I can pretty much be anyone
- 1:54:38at this point. So it kind of calls out Kemper.
- 1:54:41They go back and forth on social media and stuff.
- 1:54:45They have this match and it ends fairly quickly because Liam.
- 1:54:51I couldn't for the life of me know what it's called, but
- 1:54:54there's a very fancy technical roll up on Kemper to get the win
- 1:54:59after what could have been possibly less than 3 or 4
- 1:55:03minutes. It was quite strange.
- 1:55:05It's kind of sucked the air out of the room because people were
- 1:55:08very excited to see Kemper and it didn't last very long.
- 1:55:13But it's kind of like Liam's become this sort of smarmy, like
- 1:55:19I'm I'm better than everyone else type of like I'm so I'm so
- 1:55:22technically good that I can be anyone.
- 1:55:25So he's it's like he's gone from depressed to confident to
- 1:55:29arrogant, which, you know, and it's it's kind of just gone from
- 1:55:34complete rock bottom to like I am superior to everybody now and
- 1:55:38I'm going to take back over north.
- 1:55:42So yeah, that was interesting, but it fell a bit flat in the
- 1:55:45venue because it never really got going and everyone kind of
- 1:55:52looked around as if to be like, oh, we're waiting for camper for
- 1:55:56ages and now it's over. You have him for a brief time.
- 1:56:01Yeah. The only thing that I had in my
- 1:56:05head when he said Slaters was just, I think he said Slater
- 1:56:09boys at one time. It just made me think of Avril
- 1:56:11Lavigne. I was going to try and work in a
- 1:56:18lyric, but I haven't got the time.
- 1:56:20All the energy. What much haven't we?
- 1:56:25Oh, we spoke about Rio. Yeah, yeah, again, same kind of
- 1:56:31finish to what we saw at Leeds where great back and forth, but
- 1:56:34then she, you know, there's a there's a ref distraction, low
- 1:56:38blow, real gets the win. And then I believe Emerson's
- 1:56:43match was next with Nico Angelo. So they haven't, they have
- 1:56:47another run in where I believe Rio's music starts to play.
- 1:56:58In fact, yeah, MSN's match was first, then Rio, I believe.
- 1:57:01So the other way around, Rio's music players, Emerson's kind of
- 1:57:06waiting for her, and then Rio comes from behind and attacks
- 1:57:09her and they have a bit of back and forth until the swarm of
- 1:57:13yellow bees appears. The yellow shirts come to
- 1:57:16separate them. So yeah, kind of just where they
- 1:57:19left off in Leeds, where it's just the why Bowers just doesn't
- 1:57:24book them in a match, I don't know to.
- 1:57:27Tease you all. That's very true.
- 1:57:30I forget K fib. You know, it's just like, surely
- 1:57:32you just put this, just book a match and then I forget.
- 1:57:35Oh, yeah, it's wrestling, Yes. We can't always just get what we
- 1:57:38want right there and then. No.
- 1:57:42What else happened on this show? There was then, Oh well, there
- 1:57:47was a surprise match because we were about to go into the main
- 1:57:50event and Tom Campbell was like, this is the main event of the
- 1:57:53evening. Or that's what I would have said
- 1:57:56if there wasn't a surprise match.
- 1:57:58So then everyone's very excited Rampage comes out and at this
- 1:58:04point I think a lot of people started to realise that it's
- 1:58:08probably someone Rampage knows us pretty well that's been gone
- 1:58:11for a while, has been in Japan. We haven't seen him for a while
- 1:58:15and thankfully it was to a massive pop Will cruise back in
- 1:58:19North and they've obviously been teaming for a long time in North
- 1:58:24as well and just battered the absolute hell out of each other
- 1:58:29because that's just what they do.
- 1:58:31So yeah, surprise match and Will Cruz got the win and it was just
- 1:58:40it's what exactly what you'd expect.
- 1:58:42Thankfully me and my girlfriend was sat sort of by the ring post
- 1:58:48and when Rampage and Will Cruz made the entrance I thought this
- 1:58:52is great because I'm going to have a much better view after
- 1:58:55this match because the ring will have moved about 5 inches and it
- 1:58:59did. So thank you to Rampage and Will
- 1:59:01Cruise. Just just for you.
- 1:59:05That's all it was. Exactly.
- 1:59:07And then, yeah, the main event was spoke about was obviously
- 1:59:10the the tag titles, the the sort of double jeopardy of CNF Gene
- 1:59:15can become a double champion, which he couldn't.
- 1:59:21Some of this match I missed because it went out into sort of
- 1:59:23the concourse area. And as they tend to do when
- 1:59:29never Trent and Clinton are in a match, it just ends up
- 1:59:31everywhere. So make sure you're holding your
- 1:59:34your beers, if you've got any in Newcastle.
- 1:59:39I know it's crazy. Make sure you're holding your
- 1:59:44Pepsi Maxes. Let's just say.
- 1:59:47But yeah, the. I've been me.
- 1:59:51There was a lot of crazy spots in this one, a lot of very
- 1:59:55brutal chair spots, mainly on Clint March era because that man
- 2:00:00seems to just disintegrate every time he's in a N ring.
- 2:00:04They just put him through absolute hell.
- 2:00:06But he came back from so much beat down, eventually got a huge
- 2:00:12move on Gene from the top. And then Trent just rolled in,
- 2:00:18got the pin and acted like it was all him.
- 2:00:22And I believe he also picked up the North title very much like
- 2:00:25Nathan Black did and took a very long look at it.
- 2:00:29They then went up onto the stage and Clinton Trent kind of have a
- 2:00:35little back and forth where they're a bit like, well, thanks
- 2:00:39very much. Like, well, I did.
- 2:00:40I kind of did all the hard work there and you just kind of stole
- 2:00:43the pin. But I'll I'll sort of let you
- 2:00:44off. I mean, we are brothers.
- 2:00:47So there's a bit of tension there.
- 2:00:48And then Nathan Black and Jean have this moment where they sort
- 2:00:52of start to sort of push and shove each other because they've
- 2:00:56lost the match. They're not very happy about it,
- 2:00:59but they end up hugging and kind of ending on the same page.
- 2:01:04But again, they tease the Nathan Black Jean money fall out, but
- 2:01:10they're just going to keep on teasing us.
- 2:01:14But then yeah, on social media afterwards we then go Trent say
- 2:01:18and look, I've pinned the champion.
- 2:01:20So I won the next shot at the title and Clint said, well, I
- 2:01:26want to be double champion first.
- 2:01:28So I'm going to challenge Scotty Rourke for the Ultraviolet.
- 2:01:31So some interesting stuff going into the Leeds where it's two
- 2:01:35people could potentially be double champion.
- 2:01:40It's if you don't have your tickets for Leeds, I would
- 2:01:45suggest you book him maybe at the end of next week, just like
- 2:01:49me but mine first. If you can then go out and buy
- 2:01:54your tickets before we go any other business, which is
- 2:02:02basically do you want to plug anything?
- 2:02:05Well I've got my Instagram which is very confusing because I
- 2:02:10couldn't get all things N so it is underscore all things N
- 2:02:14underscore for anyone on Instagram.
- 2:02:19My YouTube is the same, underscore, All things N
- 2:02:22underscore and my other YouTube channel which is at Empire Pro
- 2:02:28where I do a lot of wrestling video essays on random stuff.
- 2:02:33Usually Jyoshi store for 90s old Japan.
- 2:02:38So if anyone's interested in that, that's where I do most of
- 2:02:40my stuff. And for those I will put that on
- 2:02:46the screen and I will also put it in the links below.
- 2:02:53For me, I like to keep things basic as I can do.
- 2:03:01Brad is grappas on Blue sky and YouTube.
- 2:03:05If you're already on this hello. If you're on Twitter or X, it's
- 2:03:13Brad's grappas same as it is on Instagram I believe which
- 2:03:24amazes. Yes, Brad's grappas on Instagram
- 2:03:28considering I use Instagram more than anything, I can never
- 2:03:32remember my actual username, which isn't particularly that
- 2:03:37helpful. So coming up, we are hoping, we
- 2:03:47are hoping to do a look back at future shocks cast show, which
- 2:03:57was don't do this to me. It was oh, sorry, I'll just cut
- 2:04:07this, but there you go. So as I remember it was Test of
- 2:04:18the Faithful doubleheader at the MMU in Manchester was a really
- 2:04:26interesting show to put it one way.
- 2:04:30We will also have a look at Catch as they started their
- 2:04:35Enigma series at their residency, currently at the Red
- 2:04:42Arch in Manchester as we will review show 1 and 2 because I
- 2:04:50believe at the time of recording episode 2 is going to come out
- 2:04:56on Patreon. Yes it is.
- 2:04:59Thank you for watching or listening.
- 2:05:03My thank you to Harry for actually managing to record a
- 2:05:07show for once, he says. But we have not actually
- 2:05:13published this yet, so let's hope it makes recording.
- 2:05:18I'm sure when I'm down in Leeds I'll I'll catch up with you at
- 2:05:23least. Yeah.
- 2:05:25So that, that would be nice. Now just await traffic and I
- 2:05:30can't get a ticket. But for now at least, thank you
- 2:05:34for watching listening to the podcast.
- 2:05:38Follow all Harry's links as well.
- 2:05:43I'd really like to like not string a sentence together, but
- 2:05:47there must be gin in this strawberry and Kiwi water I'm
- 2:05:51having. But for now, at least, goodbye.
