- 0:55Speaker 2: All right, welcome aboard. It's Travel Tuesday. Kevin mccull is.
- 0:58Speaker 2: My name, she's Linda Peril Hell, and it's good to
- 1:01Speaker 2: have you here. Hello, Lady, Linda, Hello, Sir Kevin. Someone
- 1:07Speaker 2: said recently, Master Kevin, I'm like, no, no, no, let's
- 1:10Speaker 2: not do that. We're not going that right, all right,
- 1:12Speaker 2: So I have a question for you and it's it's
- 1:15Speaker 2: an interesting one, I think, because I'm having conversations with
- 1:18Speaker 2: people and I'm seeing things. In fact, we've got some
- 1:20Speaker 2: stuff to talk about on the show tonight based on
- 1:24Speaker 2: global stuff. But right now you've got Russian Ukraine that's
- 1:28Speaker 2: still hot. You've got Iran which is on off every day.
- 1:33Speaker 2: It's something new different there, and neither one of those
- 1:37Speaker 2: are in like Europe per se proper like I guess
- 1:40Speaker 2: Ukraine is technically Europe, even though it's kind of moving
- 1:44Speaker 2: towards the middle of the Asian land mass. Iran is
- 1:47Speaker 2: certainly part of the distinct Middle East, But there's so
- 1:51Speaker 2: much traffic that goes in those partial directions. And come back,
- 1:57Speaker 2: do you think that this is having a negative impact
- 2:00Speaker 2: on the travel sector overall globally this year? What's your
- 2:06Speaker 2: temperature in terms of like what you think the global
- 2:09Speaker 2: appetite is for travel these days?
- 2:11Speaker 3: Well, I think you know, there's always a faction out
- 2:14Speaker 3: there that will travel no matter what, right, and so
- 2:18Speaker 3: then you have your middle of the roads that go,
- 2:21Speaker 3: uh gee, I don't know, should we go, should we
- 2:24Speaker 3: not go, should we stay domestic, should we go Europeans?
- 2:27Speaker 3: Should we say? Fuel costs and then there are the
- 2:29Speaker 3: people that are like, oh my god, can't do it
- 2:33Speaker 3: this year, forget it. So there's always Kevin. I find
- 2:38Speaker 3: every year an influence on the travel pulse, constantly, things
- 2:45Speaker 3: that make or break, things that change destinations. Right now,
- 2:50Speaker 3: I think because of let's let's start with the war,
- 2:53Speaker 3: right And I think more so the fuel costs. Some
- 2:57Speaker 3: people are financially like, oh my god, we can't do that,
- 3:00Speaker 3: because I guarantee you and I saw it. I have
- 3:02Speaker 3: to fly with my daughter today to Chicago overnight. And
- 3:06Speaker 3: I went to get tickets to Chicago. I said, we
- 3:11Speaker 3: could have gone to Hawaii. From what I paid, what.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Would you get per ticket for the round trip?
- 3:16Speaker 3: Oh my god, like almost seven hundred dollars in coach,
- 3:20Speaker 3: you know, And then what you're doing is your.
- 3:22Speaker 2: I had the same I had the same thing for
- 3:25Speaker 2: my lovely bride sheep had to go to a family wedding.
- 3:29Speaker 2: This is probably about four or five weeks ago now,
- 3:31Speaker 2: and we didn't get the tickets totally last minute, but
- 3:34Speaker 2: we didn't get them super early either. It was kind
- 3:36Speaker 2: of in betw and it was still like eight hundred
- 3:40Speaker 2: dollars round trip, and that's a ticket that two years
- 3:44Speaker 2: ago when we took the family to disney Land, we
- 3:47Speaker 2: got them for you know, four eighty nine each plus
- 3:51Speaker 2: tax round trip exact. So there's still there's something going
- 3:54Speaker 2: on because that is a significant difference at ticket price.
- 3:58Speaker 3: It's funny that you say that because I was talking
- 4:00Speaker 3: to Brent yesterday and we were discussing how, you know, okay,
- 4:05Speaker 3: fuel costs. So the air industry is going to use
- 4:10Speaker 3: these these added fuel costs as a catalyst to build
- 4:16Speaker 3: up their fares, raise prices. The other thing that became
- 4:20Speaker 3: an issue is Spirit Air because now you have gotten
- 4:25Speaker 3: rid of one of the low ballers that people don't
- 4:29Speaker 3: care about flying, they don't care about comfort, they don't
- 4:31Speaker 3: care about extras.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Just want to get they want to pay the ticket.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly. So what happens now now the industry and
- 4:38Speaker 3: the competitors, you know, they're like they're like salivating Doberman's
- 4:43Speaker 3: at a gas station. They're like, man, we caught that
- 4:46Speaker 3: one last night. What can we do tonight?
- 4:48Speaker 2: But isn't that going to ultimately hurt them? Because if
- 4:51Speaker 2: you don't, if the low baller doesn't get replaced, I
- 4:54Speaker 2: think the volume of traffic slows down in terms of travel.
- 4:58Speaker 3: Yes and no. But because people can Kevin or people
- 5:01Speaker 3: Kevin Kevin. People are always going to travel, whether it's
- 5:05Speaker 3: for business, whether it's for pleasure. Again, I told you
- 5:08Speaker 3: got those diehards out there that maybe save their whole
- 5:11Speaker 3: lives and are in retirement and don't care and want
- 5:13Speaker 3: to use their money and go away and say, well,
- 5:15Speaker 3: you know, we have the rest of our lives, We're
- 5:17Speaker 3: going to travel. We don't care. And I think that again,
- 5:21Speaker 3: the faction that is smaller, that's hesitant, that's cautious for
- 5:24Speaker 3: whatever reason, whether it be financial, whether it be safety,
- 5:27Speaker 3: because safety is an issue right now too. I think
- 5:30Speaker 3: that's smaller than the people that are going to travel. Now. Again,
- 5:35Speaker 3: that being said, there are influences on people's decisions. The war. Yes,
- 5:42Speaker 3: we go back to this airfare. We're talking about that
- 5:45Speaker 3: spirit leaving. You know, things make up this ball of
- 5:51Speaker 3: yarn that is quite complicated, and that ball of yarn
- 5:56Speaker 3: puts pressure on whatever the travel trend is. And also too,
- 6:00Speaker 3: we're talking about summer travel. It's a hot topic. What
- 6:04Speaker 3: are you doing this summer? So you know, I think
- 6:07Speaker 3: a lot of things combined, there's a whole there's a
- 6:11Speaker 3: myriad of things that are going on right now. I
- 6:14Speaker 3: think in the travel industry, I don't think there's a
- 6:16Speaker 3: trend one way or another. I think you can argue
- 6:19Speaker 3: different trends in different paths. Does that make sense?
- 6:22Speaker 2: Well, let me ask you this. When you see the
- 6:24Speaker 2: types of violence that Paris had, you know, from Saturday, Sunday,
- 6:29Speaker 2: Monday nights, does that if you were thinking about a
- 6:32Speaker 2: trip to Paris. And I don't know if you're a
- 6:33Speaker 2: parasophile or not. I'm kind of a Paris at all,
- 6:37Speaker 2: but that when we were there several years ago, there
- 6:41Speaker 2: was one protest that came through one day while we
- 6:45Speaker 2: were out, and it was a little bit like we
- 6:47Speaker 2: were like on an adjacent street to where it was
- 6:49Speaker 2: going on, so we weren't like in the thick of it,
- 6:51Speaker 2: but we weren't far from it, and it was kind
- 6:53Speaker 2: of like a little disjointed to experience. But overall the
- 6:59Speaker 2: trip was phenomenal and we had a blast. If I
- 7:02Speaker 2: saw that stuff on the TV screen and it went on,
- 7:05Speaker 2: if it was extended for longer periods of time, I'd
- 7:08Speaker 2: be second guessing if it was going to be, you know,
- 7:11Speaker 2: the right time to go.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Well, I think too, you have to Remember, you know
- 7:16Speaker 3: the media, right, So the media takes these little chunks
- 7:19Speaker 3: of excitement and uses them as a platform so that
- 7:24Speaker 3: the average I don't like to use the word uneducated,
- 7:28Speaker 3: I'm putting that in quotes. Okay, the average uneducated traveler
- 7:32Speaker 3: in the public, you know, John Q. Public goes, oh
- 7:36Speaker 3: my god, did you see what was going on in Paris? Meanwhile,
- 7:39Speaker 3: it's in a Paris ghetto, a Paris section where there's
- 7:43Speaker 3: Middle Easterners a lot. There are sections of Paris h
- 7:45Speaker 3: but Saint Germain.
- 7:46Speaker 2: We stayed in Saint Germain, and it's Jermaine. It's beautiful,
- 7:49Speaker 2: it's a nice area. And for them to be overrun
- 7:52Speaker 2: with Somali's and you know, they've got all kinds of
- 7:57Speaker 2: groups that were coming out. And I know it was
- 7:59Speaker 2: all about the soccer championship, which you would think, Okay,
- 8:01Speaker 2: they're celebrating their team doing well. I've never understood the
- 8:04Speaker 2: whole thing about hey, my team just won the championship,
- 8:07Speaker 2: let me burn stuff down. But that that happened in
- 8:09Speaker 2: Chicago the six years that I was there when they
- 8:11Speaker 2: won championships, and now it's happened in Saint Germain and
- 8:14Speaker 2: they've won Saint Jermain's won two major titles in just
- 8:17Speaker 2: the last you know, fifteen years or whatever.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Well, here's the thing too, I don't like to do.
- 8:22Speaker 3: I live five feet away from Morristown where I'm here,
- 8:26Speaker 3: So we got a lot going on. We got teams
- 8:28Speaker 3: practicing within three mile radius. We've got the World Cup
- 8:32Speaker 3: going on in you know, ten mile radius. Traffic is
- 8:36Speaker 3: going to kick up. Would this be the time to
- 8:38Speaker 3: visit New Jersey if you were coming, I would say no.
- 8:41Speaker 3: So you have to pay attention to those things. A
- 8:44Speaker 3: crowd control. Do you want to be anywhere right now
- 8:47Speaker 3: where there's like a World Cup anything going on? I
- 8:50Speaker 3: personally would not. Some people don't care. They like the excitement.
- 8:54Speaker 3: But again, Kevin, those riots that we're talking about do
- 8:59Speaker 3: tag on to these sports and soccer is no.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. The soccer hooligans on Saturday Night.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Live, Oh my guy, they're real. Yeah, no, it happens
- 9:10Speaker 3: with soccer. They're insane. This isn't like, oh, the Baseball
- 9:14Speaker 3: World Series. If somebody was rioting because this World Series
- 9:18Speaker 3: was out, well there's a problem.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Yeah. No, the Yankees won the World Series and they
- 9:22Speaker 2: throw a parade down you know, Broadway. But when the
- 9:26Speaker 2: Bulls won their six championships, all the stores on Michigan
- 9:29Speaker 2: Avenue were scared for that mark because they were going
- 9:32Speaker 2: to be you know, broken into and burned down. And
- 9:35Speaker 2: they did it all six years, and you kept thinking,
- 9:37Speaker 2: why are you doing this to your own city, Like
- 9:39Speaker 2: you're so excited that your team won it all, but
- 9:42Speaker 2: this is the way you react to it, and it's
- 9:44Speaker 2: I don't know, it's a little inconceivable. Hey, listen, We've
- 9:47Speaker 2: got a lot of stuff to get to tonight. Speaking
- 9:49Speaker 2: of traveling with some caution, the US government has updated
- 9:55Speaker 2: some travel risk advisories for some places. We'll tell you
- 9:57Speaker 2: about that, and we've got some We've got some updates
- 10:01Speaker 2: on that Air Canada. You heard about that Air Canada
- 10:04Speaker 2: crash where they ran into the It was just awful. Anyway,
- 10:07Speaker 2: the CEO for Air Canada had had some unfavorable appreciation
- 10:13Speaker 2: for his comments. We'll tell you about that more. It's
- 10:15Speaker 2: Travel Tuesday. Stay with us.
- 10:20Speaker 4: From New York. It's Radio Night Life with Kevin mccaullach.
- 10:25Speaker 2: All right, welcome back, it's Travel Tuesday. She's Lenda, I'm
- 10:28Speaker 2: Kevin and speaking. We were just talking about the kind
- 10:31Speaker 2: of state of travel. As we are kicking off the summer.
- 10:34Speaker 2: By the way, I hope that all of you come
- 10:36Speaker 2: to New York for America two fifty because and this
- 10:39Speaker 2: is the one thing, Lenda, this really gets to me
- 10:41Speaker 2: because in the newsletter I've been writing about America two
- 10:44Speaker 2: fifty and all the destinations on the East Coast. Like,
- 10:47Speaker 2: if you really wanted to make a historical trip, you
- 10:50Speaker 2: could plan all of the major stops that the Revolutionary
- 10:54Speaker 2: War went to and end up in a city like
- 10:57Speaker 2: Boston or New York to kind of either kick things off,
- 11:00Speaker 2: are around the trip up with and have a really
- 11:02Speaker 2: nice time all of these places have you know, they're
- 11:06Speaker 2: they're throwing out the red carpet for everything related to
- 11:09Speaker 2: two point fifty, and especially New York with the boat
- 11:12Speaker 2: parade and everything else. It's going to be incredible. But
- 11:16Speaker 2: global travel, there's an advisory that's just been put out
- 11:21Speaker 2: by the United States government urging Americans to exercised increased
- 11:26Speaker 2: caution to crime and kidnapping risks, in part in parts
- 11:31Speaker 2: of Mexico. So it's funny, Linda, I was just talking
- 11:35Speaker 2: with I don't want to laugh, but Buddy, well, it's
- 11:38Speaker 2: not like it's funny ironic, not funny, haha. But I
- 11:42Speaker 2: was talking with someone over the weekend and I said,
- 11:44Speaker 2: you know what, what's you know, what are you looking
- 11:46Speaker 2: forward to? And they have a trip to Mexico coming up.
- 11:48Speaker 2: And I'm like, oh, you're you're okay with that? And
- 11:51Speaker 2: he goes, well, we're going to stay in you know,
- 11:53Speaker 2: Cancun and the you know, the nicer resort places. I said,
- 11:56Speaker 2: well that's the way to do it. My bride and
- 11:58Speaker 2: I went to to Loom a few years ago. But
- 12:00Speaker 2: here's the thing. Even last year there were some of
- 12:03Speaker 2: those wealthy resorts in Cancun that got hit by marauders
- 12:07Speaker 2: on the on the sea ocean side of the resort.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Because you know, all of those resorts there have they
- 12:13Speaker 2: take a big swaths of beachfront property so that the
- 12:16Speaker 2: people can wander out into the ocean when they're staying
- 12:19Speaker 2: at the resort. And if you've got cartel guys coming
- 12:22Speaker 2: up via boat along the shore, that's a dangerous area
- 12:26Speaker 2: to be in as well. Now it's not as bad
- 12:29Speaker 2: as the underbrush and the jungles and all the stuff inland.
- 12:32Speaker 2: That's where if you are a young girl you are
- 12:35Speaker 2: going to probably get kidnapped and trafficked. But yeah, especially
- 12:39Speaker 2: for girls right now, I wouldn't travel like I hear
- 12:41Speaker 2: about these these girls strips like oh, let's go to
- 12:44Speaker 2: can Kun for the weekend and it's just three girls,
- 12:46Speaker 2: and like, no, why would you do that? You're eighteen nineteen,
- 12:50Speaker 2: twenty twenty five years old? No, you are. You are
- 12:53Speaker 2: prime material for kidnapping.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Oh my god. And those kids, you know, they think
- 12:57Speaker 3: there I have many of them. They think they're in
- 12:59Speaker 3: vincent and they think nothing's going to happen. You know,
- 13:02Speaker 3: Valentina's best friend from NYU just went back to Mexico
- 13:06Speaker 3: because he's from there. He's from Mexico City, and she said, Mom,
- 13:09Speaker 3: can I go visit him? And I'm like, you know,
- 13:13Speaker 3: Mexico City is just level two, which is increased caution,
- 13:17Speaker 3: but still it bothers me that she would be there,
- 13:20Speaker 3: except he's Mexican, so they're not really going to bother
- 13:23Speaker 3: him again, But are you in the wrong place at
- 13:25Speaker 3: the wrong time? So Mexico, Kevin, would you.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Ever get separated from him? Like would you two, oh
- 13:31Speaker 2: my god place at the same time?
- 13:34Speaker 3: Right exactly. I don't like it at all. And as
- 13:36Speaker 3: a matter of fact, so Mexico is huge, right, So
- 13:39Speaker 3: they go from the areas that are A four, which
- 13:43Speaker 3: are like, do not go there. We are warning you.
- 13:46Speaker 2: This is a circumstances stay out, right.
- 13:49Speaker 3: Then there's a level three, which is reconsider travel due
- 13:52Speaker 3: to terrorism, crime and kidnapping. Level two is where they stop, okay,
- 13:57Speaker 3: increase caution, terrorism and crime, which are most of the
- 14:02Speaker 3: tourist areas, right, Kintanaru, that was where I believe, if
- 14:08Speaker 3: I'm right, it's like Cankuon and uh, you know some of.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Those that whole swath from Cancun down to like Tuloom.
- 14:16Speaker 3: Yeah, Vera Cruz like these are okay, Baja California, sir,
- 14:22Speaker 3: because Baja California itself, state of Baja California was listed
- 14:27Speaker 3: under a level three, which is reconsidered travel. So then
- 14:30Speaker 3: you have to question the individual Kevin, who wants to
- 14:34Speaker 3: go to Mexico and why are they going there? Like
- 14:37Speaker 3: do you want to go to the state of Chihuahua.
- 14:40Speaker 3: Why are you going to Chihuahua? Do you have business
- 14:43Speaker 3: in Chihuahua? I mean, what are you doing there? So
- 14:49Speaker 3: I don't think I would go at all. And I
- 14:50Speaker 3: hate to make a blanket statement but I probably wouldn't.
- 14:53Speaker 3: The resorts are gorgeous.
- 14:56Speaker 2: For people like your daughter. I think there's there's an
- 14:58Speaker 2: attraction to Mexico because it's so cheap, like what you
- 15:02Speaker 2: can do in the level resort, you can stay in
- 15:04Speaker 2: and that sort of thing. It costs much less than
- 15:06Speaker 2: if you were to go to the French riviera or
- 15:08Speaker 2: somewhere in Europe.
- 15:11Speaker 3: Oh yeah, but pennies the payollar.
- 15:14Speaker 2: The other side, the downside is you got to deal
- 15:17Speaker 2: with this stuff.
- 15:19Speaker 3: You do now? Do you remember when? Was it back
- 15:22Speaker 3: in April? Maybe spring break? Those people were at decent
- 15:25Speaker 3: resorts and this whole thing happened at the gas stations,
- 15:28Speaker 3: the cartels were there. I mean, it's not a safe place.
- 15:32Speaker 3: Here's the kicker. It's a beautiful country. The resorts are
- 15:37Speaker 3: top notch, gorgeous. I mean, the service is impeccable, bang
- 15:44Speaker 3: for your buck, food all good. But can I tell
- 15:47Speaker 3: you something, Kevin, like I would almost be afraid to
- 15:52Speaker 3: have a glass of wine there, to eat anything like
- 15:55Speaker 3: what is going into my food? What are they doing?
- 15:58Speaker 3: It takes one end of at that resort, a great
- 16:01Speaker 3: resort to roof for you. Do you remember the Dominican
- 16:04Speaker 3: Republic what they did with the stuff in the American
- 16:07Speaker 3: in the refrigerator, Yeah, replacing the alcohol with poison. I
- 16:13Speaker 3: mean it is what they can do is incredible and
- 16:16Speaker 3: why they want to do it, what's the motivation? You know, Americans? Unfortunately,
- 16:20Speaker 3: there's a lot of envy out there for Americans. They
- 16:22Speaker 3: come to these third world country resorts and we're envied
- 16:25Speaker 3: because they think we have money and they're they have
- 16:29Speaker 3: They make nothing, these workers, right, and.
- 16:32Speaker 2: Well, compared to those workers, we do have money, like
- 16:35Speaker 2: even even a middle class Americans rich compared to their states.
- 16:40Speaker 3: You know, it's sad because back in the day, you know,
- 16:44Speaker 3: we went to Mexico for like family vacations and things like,
- 16:49Speaker 3: you know, like Mexico for another destination. Right, it's a
- 16:53Speaker 3: shame what has happened over the last like thirty years
- 16:56Speaker 3: to detract from that. I mean it's really and it's
- 16:58Speaker 3: serious stuff. We're not we're talking like oh gee, maybe
- 17:02Speaker 3: not because like you said, an occasional riot or something.
- 17:04Speaker 2: I mean, kiddings are these are cartels that are more
- 17:09Speaker 2: well armed than their military. Like the cartels are more
- 17:13Speaker 2: firepower than the Mexican military.
- 17:14Speaker 3: Oh, because they don't care. They are martyrs for their
- 17:18Speaker 3: cause and money driven and just they're animals. And so
- 17:23Speaker 3: here's the other thing too. So we just went on
- 17:25Speaker 3: that cruise. We made two stops in Mexico, which we're fine,
- 17:31Speaker 3: but it was like, okay, we visited, get back on
- 17:34Speaker 3: the boat. I didn't let the kids eat anything. And
- 17:37Speaker 3: let me tell you, the food smelt great. Their street
- 17:40Speaker 3: food is probably fabulous. Don't eat it. I don't even
- 17:44Speaker 3: want you to have bottled water here. I mean, that's
- 17:46Speaker 3: where my mindset was, Yes, let's go visit. We did
- 17:49Speaker 3: some shopping on the beach, went home. They are real hustlers,
- 17:53Speaker 3: those Mexicans, let me tell you, after you beautiful. Here's
- 17:58Speaker 3: the thing, artisans. They they do some beautiful work and
- 18:02Speaker 3: it's a shame. And I'm sure that they are hard
- 18:06Speaker 3: workers too. So you know, we can't Kevin generalize a
- 18:10Speaker 3: country by the violence that they have and label every
- 18:15Speaker 3: single one of their citizens as a rogue. However, however,
- 18:20Speaker 3: we know what we know, and it takes a faction
- 18:24Speaker 3: of rogues to kill you. And that's the bottom line.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Well, and if the government itself doesn't have control over
- 18:30Speaker 2: its violent crime element, like I wouldn't go to an
- 18:34Speaker 2: American city. Like, there are cities I don't want to
- 18:36Speaker 2: spend a lot of time in right now. Baltimore is
- 18:39Speaker 2: one of them. Detroit's another. There are times when I
- 18:43Speaker 2: don't want to be, you know, in and around Chicago,
- 18:46Speaker 2: and the reason has to do with if the criminal
- 18:50Speaker 2: element has the upper hand or they are they are
- 18:53Speaker 2: such a problem. You know, there are more people killed
- 18:56Speaker 2: every weekend in Chicago than some other states have killed
- 19:00Speaker 2: an entire year, and that's in one weekend. So yeah,
- 19:05Speaker 2: I think that, you know, the places that are going
- 19:08Speaker 2: to be more attractive to me and my family especially
- 19:10Speaker 2: are going to be places where, you know, we don't
- 19:13Speaker 2: feel like that's out of balance. All right, she's Lenda
- 19:15Speaker 2: and Kevin. We're coming right back to uncle Way.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Now I'm from New York, back to radio night life.
- 19:26Speaker 1: You're Kevin Mudcolor.
- 19:30Speaker 2: All right, welcome back. It's travel night and we're talking
- 19:32Speaker 2: all things related to the headlines related to travel. And Linda,
- 19:36Speaker 2: I was just noticing that Kuanas Airlines, Now Kuanas is
- 19:39Speaker 2: that is that New Zealand or is that Australian.
- 19:42Speaker 3: I think it's Australia.
- 19:43Speaker 2: Yeah, Well they're they're touting these new twenty two hour
- 19:48Speaker 2: nonstops that are supposedly going to be record breaking. Is
- 19:52Speaker 2: it what is the length of time? What's the longest
- 19:55Speaker 2: flight on the planet that we know of? Like, if
- 19:57Speaker 2: you get a regular commercial flight, which one is the
- 20:00Speaker 2: longest one? Is it New York to Sydney? Is it
- 20:04Speaker 2: Paris to you know, Beijing? What I don't I don't
- 20:07Speaker 2: know what long flights look like.
- 20:09Speaker 3: Well, according to this, twenty two hours would be flights
- 20:15Speaker 3: from Sydney to London.
- 20:17Speaker 4: And New York.
- 20:18Speaker 3: So I'm assuming that London and New York have the
- 20:22Speaker 3: same flight time to get to get That's crazy.
- 20:26Speaker 2: If you think about it. But they're probably just taking
- 20:29Speaker 2: another angle over the over the North Pole. They're probably
- 20:31Speaker 2: flying out and over Canada and then all the way
- 20:33Speaker 2: down as opposed to going around the circumference, because getting
- 20:36Speaker 2: around the equator takes a lot longer.
- 20:38Speaker 3: Now, could you imagine Kevin being on a Standard seven
- 20:42Speaker 3: forty seven and being in coach. I can't take coach
- 20:46Speaker 3: for Italy. I cannot imagine twenty two hours and this
- 20:52Speaker 3: is going to be a NonStop, which you know a
- 20:54Speaker 3: lot of these flights stuff. But I think Quantus has
- 20:56Speaker 3: kind of cornered the market. Obviously they are Australia on
- 20:59Speaker 3: the NonStop flight. So this is about making it a better,
- 21:03Speaker 3: more palatable experience the traveler.
- 21:06Speaker 2: Because if you go New York to Sydney a lot
- 21:08Speaker 2: of times and you do stop in LA, you'll have
- 21:11Speaker 2: five and a half hours if the winds are good
- 21:13Speaker 2: to LA. If they're in your face, you may have
- 21:16Speaker 2: six hours to LA. But then you get on another
- 21:19Speaker 2: flight and it's still a twenty hour flight from LA
- 21:21Speaker 2: to Sydney. So it's like twenty six hours with a
- 21:25Speaker 2: with a stop or twenty two hours without one. I'm
- 21:28Speaker 2: kind of leaning towards save me the four hours.
- 21:30Speaker 3: I mean, oh my god, save me four hours on
- 21:33Speaker 3: a flight to Italy, which is you know, eight hours.
- 21:35Speaker 2: That would be awesome because then it would just be
- 21:37Speaker 2: a four hour flight.
- 21:38Speaker 3: That it would just be a four hour flight, is right,
- 21:41Speaker 3: you know. So here's the thing. So now they have
- 21:44Speaker 3: this new concept for twenty twenty seven. They're gonna have
- 21:48Speaker 3: they what they call chay'se lounges, okay, and they're gonna
- 21:52Speaker 3: be almost a double decker. And if you saw, it's
- 21:55Speaker 3: a double level airplane seat. So Kevin, if you have
- 21:57Speaker 3: the piece in front of you. It's going to show
- 21:59Speaker 3: you how it's going to work. Now, forty percent of
- 22:03Speaker 3: the seats will be in premium cabins, okay, with the
- 22:06Speaker 3: top class amenities ready flatbeds of course right, because they're coming.
- 22:12Speaker 3: They're not so new anymore. Full length wardrobes because why
- 22:17Speaker 3: keV because you want to change like.
- 22:20Speaker 2: Cocktail hour, I want to put my smoking jacket on
- 22:24Speaker 2: before I come down from my martini.
- 22:27Speaker 3: I guess at a well being zoned. Of course they
- 22:31Speaker 3: have to have the well being zone or this flight
- 22:33Speaker 3: would not be complete.
- 22:34Speaker 2: Well, if they're going to give me a massage in
- 22:36Speaker 2: the well being zone, then I might just take it.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Emirates, there you go, go, fly Emerts and a well
- 22:42Speaker 3: being zone in the center of the plane will allow
- 22:44Speaker 3: travelers to stretch their legs well, I hope so, and
- 22:48Speaker 3: stock up on refreshments for the long hours ahead. They
- 22:51Speaker 3: would be rating the ladder, as we say on British Air.
- 22:55Speaker 2: You know you know that they're going to charge you
- 23:00Speaker 2: through the nose for everything.
- 23:01Speaker 3: Right, I can't wait to hear.
- 23:04Speaker 2: I am so curious, like your one little travel bottle,
- 23:07Speaker 2: like when you're when you order the alcohol from the
- 23:13Speaker 2: the flight attendant as she comes up and down the aisle.
- 23:15Speaker 2: You know, just that little one and a half or
- 23:17Speaker 2: two ounce vodka or whatever that that's what five six,
- 23:21Speaker 2: ten dollars, twelve dollars. I've seen fifty dollars at times.
- 23:25Speaker 3: Easily for just a.
- 23:27Speaker 2: Little shot of alcohol on this it's going to be
- 23:31Speaker 2: thirty dollars. Same thing.
- 23:33Speaker 3: That's if you're in coach. So here, I think my
- 23:35Speaker 3: question is I'd love to speak to somebody quantas are
- 23:38Speaker 3: they going to be including I mean, you can't just
- 23:41Speaker 3: put somebody back in coach for twenty two hours and
- 23:44Speaker 3: say here are your pretzels, Like, there's got to be
- 23:47Speaker 3: something else even for coach passengers. And are these seats
- 23:53Speaker 3: in coach going to be even better now they've cut
- 23:55Speaker 3: down the amount of people, right, So we said just
- 23:59Speaker 3: two hundred thirty eight which includes business, which is as opposed.
- 24:03Speaker 2: To the four hundred that normal one hundred.
- 24:05Speaker 3: Yeah on other a three fifties. So this is definitely gonna.
- 24:11Speaker 2: But they're going to get the skysh kind of bunk
- 24:14Speaker 2: bed thing where you're going to be able to lay
- 24:15Speaker 2: across the seats and they're going to be alternated. So
- 24:19Speaker 2: the back row will be up, the next row in
- 24:21Speaker 2: front of it will be lower, the next row in
- 24:23Speaker 2: front of that one will be up again. It'll have
- 24:26Speaker 2: some inherent room in the in the seating area like that.
- 24:31Speaker 2: And still here's the thing. They're going to price these
- 24:33Speaker 2: flights starting at four ninety five per per session. So
- 24:38Speaker 2: if that's one way, if that's one way to Australia,
- 24:42Speaker 2: and so your round trip is nine hundred bucks, that's
- 24:44Speaker 2: probably not a bad deal in this current climate. I mean,
- 24:46Speaker 2: it costs me eight hundred dollars to send the bride
- 24:48Speaker 2: to California five weeks ago.
- 24:51Speaker 3: So here, So bookings of mayteam for a now Air
- 24:54Speaker 3: New Zealand is going to have economy, skyness, bunk beds. Okay, economy.
- 25:01Speaker 3: So is that going to be an economy with each
- 25:03Speaker 3: individual space coming with a mattress, embedding, a privacy curtain,
- 25:07Speaker 3: reading light and charging boards.
- 25:11Speaker 2: You give me a phone and a pillow. You give
- 25:13Speaker 2: me a phone and a pillow, and I'm happy for hours.
- 25:16Speaker 2: All right, stay with us. She's Linda, I'm Kevin. We're
- 25:18Speaker 2: coming right back.
- 25:23Speaker 3: What a little moonlight can do.
- 25:25Speaker 4: It's radio night life. Here's Kevin McCullough.
- 25:29Speaker 2: All right, welcome back. It's Travel Tuesday. She's Lynda Parillo.
- 25:32Speaker 2: I'm Kevin McCullough and we were just talking about before
- 25:36Speaker 2: we went to break what's in those sky nest beds.
- 25:40Speaker 2: If I do get a mattress with a pillow and
- 25:43Speaker 2: a port and Wi Fi, I can probably survive a
- 25:47Speaker 2: twenty two hour flight because what I will do, Linda,
- 25:51Speaker 2: is I will read, I will edit video, I will
- 25:54Speaker 2: listen to music. I will do because if I have
- 25:57Speaker 2: my pocket friend with me everywhere, I can probably pass
- 26:02Speaker 2: the time. But you know what would be the worst
- 26:04Speaker 2: is if I got stuck on one of those things
- 26:06Speaker 2: without internet.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Oh my god, could you imagine there'd be a riot.
- 26:11Speaker 2: I have a hard time going to California without internet,
- 26:14Speaker 2: and I've had several rights recently that started with internet
- 26:18Speaker 2: and then it went off like thirty minutes into the flight,
- 26:20Speaker 2: and you're like, uh.
- 26:22Speaker 3: I'm surprised they have not perfected the best Internet I've had.
- 26:26Speaker 2: They have United, which get Blue. United's getting Elon Musk's
- 26:30Speaker 2: What's what? What does he provide?
- 26:32Speaker 3: The Skylink Skylink.
- 26:34Speaker 2: United's moving to Skylink, and I think it's going to
- 26:36Speaker 2: be a world apart from everybody else in terms of
- 26:39Speaker 2: what they.
- 26:40Speaker 3: Have, yes, because we all function. You know, back in
- 26:45Speaker 3: the day, you know that Wi Fi was like a luxury, like,
- 26:48Speaker 3: oh my god, the plane has Wi Fi. Oh my god,
- 26:50Speaker 3: that's great.
- 26:50Speaker 2: Now you had to pay like forty five dollars.
- 26:52Speaker 3: To use it to remember remember that, Yeah.
- 26:56Speaker 2: You got fifteen minutes for twenty five dollars.
- 27:00Speaker 3: First class you get it for free. But then you know,
- 27:02Speaker 3: steerage in the back, you have to pay forty five
- 27:05Speaker 3: dollars if you want to entertain yourself. Oh and your
- 27:07Speaker 3: kids too. Do you want your kids to be entertained? Kevin,
- 27:10Speaker 3: Oh my god, you know there's another two hundred and
- 27:12Speaker 3: fifty dollars to use the internet and the TV and
- 27:14Speaker 3: everything else. But again, you know, we live for it
- 27:19Speaker 3: and where we can't function without it, so they.
- 27:21Speaker 2: Know, you know, you know what I do, and this
- 27:23Speaker 2: is this is my little hot tip for the night.
- 27:26Speaker 2: I don't ever accumulate enough miles to actually like get
- 27:30Speaker 2: a ticket or anything. So what I do is I
- 27:32Speaker 2: use my miles to pay for all my internet. And
- 27:35Speaker 2: it actually turns out not to be too bad of
- 27:38Speaker 2: a deal because you know, for a few miles you
- 27:41Speaker 2: get the you know, the entire flight covered, and I
- 27:43Speaker 2: usually get enough miles in every if I if I
- 27:46Speaker 2: travel to you know, Florida or California or Texas or
- 27:49Speaker 2: somewhere that takes a little longer to get there, the
- 27:52Speaker 2: round trip will usually give me enough Internet mileage in
- 27:56Speaker 2: miles for my next trip. So if I get you know,
- 28:00Speaker 2: three four or five thousand miles under the belt, you know,
- 28:03Speaker 2: and it cost you eight hundred miles to use the
- 28:07Speaker 2: Internet one way, then you know, I've got sixteen hundred
- 28:10Speaker 2: miles banked and ready to go right.
- 28:13Speaker 3: Exactly, easy, exactly, So it's easy, yep.
- 28:16Speaker 2: All right. So there's this other headline that caught my
- 28:20Speaker 2: eye seeing n travel saying fed up with bad behavior,
- 28:23Speaker 2: Thailand is reducing visa free lengths for over ninety countries,
- 28:29Speaker 2: and the US is included among them. Now, first of all,
- 28:34Speaker 2: I think that bad behavior in Thailand is kind of
- 28:38Speaker 2: self evident. I think people go to Thailand to do
- 28:41Speaker 2: a lot of bad things. Yes, they do, and so
- 28:45Speaker 2: you're attracting what you're getting. I don't know what your
- 28:48Speaker 2: problem is, but I didn't know that they had ninety
- 28:51Speaker 2: countries that they allowed to visit visa free, Like that's
- 28:55Speaker 2: a little unusual, don't you think.
- 28:58Speaker 3: I do? Again, know, Kevin, A lot of things are
- 29:01Speaker 3: based on what we don't know. Why are they letting
- 29:04Speaker 3: this country in and that country not in or whatever.
- 29:07Speaker 3: I'm surprised at the United States though, because people from
- 29:10Speaker 3: the US that go to Thailand go for the reasons
- 29:13Speaker 3: that you're saying. Another thing is Americans will spend money there, right,
- 29:17Speaker 3: So I don't know why they're so hesitant, but they
- 29:21Speaker 3: think that we're scoundrels and that we're slobs and because problems.
- 29:26Speaker 3: But Thailand is probably one of the most liberal areas. However, apparently,
- 29:33Speaker 3: from what I understand, it is impeccably clean, and I
- 29:39Speaker 3: think that maybe that's it. Americans are slobby and when.
- 29:42Speaker 2: They allow kids to be molested, they want it to
- 29:45Speaker 2: be done in pristine places.
- 29:47Speaker 3: That's right, and I don't think I think that's part
- 29:50Speaker 3: of their culture. But I also know that I think
- 29:53Speaker 3: my son has been there, my brother has been there.
- 29:56Speaker 3: It's absolutely Yeah, a I'm Cambodia too, Kevin. Don't you
- 30:04Speaker 3: want to go to Cambodia.
- 30:06Speaker 2: Yeah, let's relive. Let's relive the night of the massacre. Now,
- 30:13Speaker 2: these are some of the places that to be honest,
- 30:17Speaker 2: and my my, my daughter so badly wants to go
- 30:20Speaker 2: to Japan. She wants to go to Japan. Like so
- 30:24Speaker 2: it's like the one thing in her whole life she
- 30:26Speaker 2: wants to do. She wants to go to Japan and
- 30:28Speaker 2: see Japan. But there's nowhere else in Asia that I'm
- 30:31Speaker 2: really just like, hey, let's go. China doesn't do it
- 30:35Speaker 2: for me. These countries don't do it for me. I
- 30:39Speaker 2: just I don't. There's there's you know, where I would
- 30:42Speaker 2: go is Singapore because it is pristine and you can't
- 30:47Speaker 2: even chew chewing gum in public there. They don't. They
- 30:50Speaker 2: don't allow you to be chewed in Singapore. That's how
- 30:53Speaker 2: pristine like, there's there is nothing out of place there,
- 30:56Speaker 2: but it doesn't have the reputation that Thailand has.
- 31:00Speaker 3: So here's the thing. My son was there. He did Korea,
- 31:03Speaker 3: he did Japan, and he.
- 31:05Speaker 2: North or South, he did South South.
- 31:08Speaker 3: Yeah, so they but they went on the line. What
- 31:12Speaker 3: is that line called. There's a name for that line.
- 31:14Speaker 2: Yeah, the line is, Yes, it's.
- 31:16Speaker 3: The I forget. I forget.
- 31:19Speaker 2: It'll come to me as soon as we stop.
- 31:20Speaker 3: Talking about it, of course, it will. Two o'clock in
- 31:22Speaker 3: the morning, you can text me. That's right, he said.
- 31:25Speaker 3: Out of all those countries, and he said, Singapore was beautiful,
- 31:29Speaker 3: he would not go back to Japan. He would go
- 31:31Speaker 3: back to Korea.
- 31:34Speaker 2: Okay, interesting, well was probably the most westernized.
- 31:38Speaker 3: Yes, very westernized.
- 31:40Speaker 2: But Japan, you know, they're a good ally and at
- 31:44Speaker 2: least they have normal freedoms, and you know, they're they're
- 31:47Speaker 2: a fairly deeply entrenched, you know, Asian country with their
- 31:53Speaker 2: traditions and thing, but they think like Westerners, so there's
- 31:56Speaker 2: a there's a little more of a modern take there
- 31:59Speaker 2: than say China or some of these other places. My
- 32:02Speaker 2: brother in law three carrier tours and they all stopped
- 32:06Speaker 2: in Singapore. He got he got custom suits made there,
- 32:10Speaker 2: like oh pennies compared to what they call fear and
- 32:14Speaker 2: they're the finest suits that you know, you'll ever wear.
- 32:18Speaker 2: But it's just it's just a fascinating, fascinating city state,
- 32:22Speaker 2: is what it is. And then you know those three
- 32:24Speaker 2: buildings that they have that you know, they have the
- 32:26Speaker 2: pools and stuff up on the top. You're like literally
- 32:29Speaker 2: in the heavens at the top of those things that
- 32:32Speaker 2: are that are connected. But it just looks like you know,
- 32:36Speaker 2: a fascinating place, Crazy Rich Asians. I think was filmed there.
- 32:39Speaker 3: Crazy Asians.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Yeah, and that was a good movie. I was. I
- 32:44Speaker 2: was a little impressed with that movie.
- 32:45Speaker 3: I was.
- 32:46Speaker 2: It was better than When we come back, Linda's got
- 32:50Speaker 2: some Perrillos pointers for your week.
- 32:52Speaker 1: We were.
- 32:58Speaker 4: Once again from New Hears Radio Night Life and Kevin
- 33:03Speaker 4: McCullough welcome back.
- 33:05Speaker 2: It's travel Tuesday. Final few minutes, just three minutes or so.
- 33:09Speaker 2: We call this the Perillos Pointers segment. And here's the pointer.
- 33:13Speaker 2: If you're going to come to the US for the
- 33:15Speaker 2: World Cup, don't fly into sanctuary locales because if you're
- 33:18Speaker 2: coming from I don't know, Honduras or El Salvador or
- 33:23Speaker 2: Mexico or Brazil, you may not get to land in
- 33:27Speaker 2: those sanctuary cities because DHS is saying, because those cities
- 33:31Speaker 2: won't observe federal protocol in terms of trying to keep
- 33:34Speaker 2: Americans safe, we're not going to allow those international travelers
- 33:37Speaker 2: to come in through those ports. Linda, what do you
- 33:39Speaker 2: think of this?
- 33:40Speaker 3: Well, I think maybe that you know, they bring up
- 33:43Speaker 3: a good point here. I mean, this World Cup and
- 33:45Speaker 3: we spoke about this before, right, is really causing an
- 33:48Speaker 3: influx into the United States, and you're going to end
- 33:53Speaker 3: up with the you know, the not so desirables here,
- 33:55Speaker 3: and how are they They're always going to find a
- 33:58Speaker 3: way to get in an inflace.
- 34:00Speaker 2: We just spent a year and a half getting it all.
- 34:01Speaker 3: Fixed, we did. And here's the kicker too. It's not
- 34:05Speaker 3: like they're cluming because they're big soccer fans. They're using
- 34:10Speaker 3: this as a platform to kind of like be incognito
- 34:14Speaker 3: and get in under the wire with like, you know, Okay,
- 34:19Speaker 3: if I get into this throng of people, they won't
- 34:21Speaker 3: notice me. I'll just put on the hat and glasses
- 34:23Speaker 3: and I'll maneuver myself in. And that's that's pretty much
- 34:28Speaker 3: the concept and the most in the simplest terms possible
- 34:31Speaker 3: of what they're trying to do. So, what are Kevin
- 34:34Speaker 3: some of the sanctuary cities? I would like to know
- 34:38Speaker 3: because I don't know. And Newark there's one of them.
- 34:42Speaker 2: Well, and what's interesting is New York and Newark we're
- 34:45Speaker 2: both going to have, you know, something to say about this.
- 34:48Speaker 2: You got San Francisco and Los Angeles, which are going
- 34:51Speaker 2: to be big ports of entry, and they're both they
- 34:53Speaker 2: both consider themselves sanctuary cities. I mean, the federal government
- 34:57Speaker 2: could actually make this kind of difficult for the cities themselves,
- 35:01Speaker 2: and that the cities kind of have no one to
- 35:03Speaker 2: blame but themselves for having the policies that they have.
- 35:07Speaker 2: Like if you were just on the record as saying
- 35:09Speaker 2: we will help enforce federal immigration standards, you wouldn't you
- 35:14Speaker 2: wouldn't have this this tension writing up. And in fact,
- 35:17Speaker 2: you know, everybody's been upset about the Delaney uh delayed
- 35:21Speaker 2: Ice center the last few days. All all Governor what's
- 35:25Speaker 2: her name, has to do is say, you know what,
- 35:28Speaker 2: we're just gonna abide by and work with the federal
- 35:30Speaker 2: authorities to make sure to do it. And all she'd
- 35:33Speaker 2: have to do is do that, and the whole thing
- 35:34Speaker 2: would die down tomorrow, right, just like they want. It's
- 35:38Speaker 2: like they want the tension.
- 35:40Speaker 3: Yes, they you know part of it. Kevin is with her.
- 35:45Speaker 3: Obviously I did not vote for her. Sure, she doesn't
- 35:49Speaker 3: want to back off, you know, Mikey, you call Mickey,
- 35:52Speaker 3: Mickey Cheryl. She won't doesn't want to back down and say,
- 35:57Speaker 3: you know what, we got to stop this because it's
- 36:00Speaker 3: going to take away from her profile as a liberal
- 36:06Speaker 3: Democratic governor in the state of New Jersey where everything goes.
- 36:10Speaker 3: Let's fight against ICE's authority and let these other people
- 36:15Speaker 3: like do whatever. She's never go rather, you know what, No.
- 36:18Speaker 2: And that's the fact that I think she is. She
- 36:20Speaker 2: does this stuff because she wants to have a platform
- 36:24Speaker 2: to be able to do bigger things, and like this
- 36:26Speaker 2: is it. She's never going to be anything beyond governor.
- 36:29Speaker 3: No, I don't think so. I think she's rather dumb.
- 36:32Speaker 3: I think she yeah, really dumb. I don't think she
- 36:35Speaker 3: speaks well. She can't even answer a question eloquently. You
- 36:39Speaker 3: want to get mad at Donald Trump, go he always
- 36:42Speaker 3: has an answer, no matter what he sounds.
- 36:44Speaker 2: Like the answer, but he's got out.
- 36:46Speaker 3: Yeah, she can't even get the words out of Like
- 36:48Speaker 3: what do you go back and freaking get your hair
- 36:50Speaker 3: done and get some boatops, clear up your under eyebags,
- 36:54Speaker 3: and go figure yourself out.
