- 2:12Bale Cooper for studying to me, sending in for me when I was on
- 2:15vacation last week. Coming up on the show of This Morning, our friend
- 2:17Rich the Real declines here to talk about the real estate market in the area.
- 2:22Paige Wthrow is here from the West Virginia National Yeager Airport Folks to talk
- 2:25about the first Breeze Airways flight out of Yeager, which is happening tomorrow,
- 2:30and State Republican Party coach heir Tony Hodge is here as well. Enjoy my
- 2:36time off with my wife on the beat somewhere. Although it was about twenty
- 2:40degrees cooler where I was and what it is what it was here last week,
- 2:44but it's back to the grind and it seems like forever since I've been
- 2:46here. It was Friday, May the nineteenth, if you're keeping score at
- 2:50home, and since that time. To be honest, and you know,
- 2:52I try to unplug when I'm on vacation. But the biggest story around the
- 2:57Charleston area. And let me see if I get this straight. It was
- 2:59announced the comedian Dave Chappelle is coming in concert, but is accused of leude
- 3:02behavior in a parking Canaccounty Commissier Kent Carper. No wait, I may have
- 3:07that. I may have the two big stories mixed up. I apologize for
- 3:10that. So the Kent Carper story probably the worst kept secret in Charleston.
- 3:17All that week, most of us in the media started hearing about the allegations
- 3:23of allegations important to remember, of leud conduct on part of Commissioner Carper Monday
- 3:30of that week. We were getting texts to the show about it as early
- 3:34as Tuesday. But until you have something to go on, a journalist or
- 3:38media member, you're really setting yourself up for a hard fall if you go
- 3:44on mere allegations, because, let's face it, with all due respect to
- 3:46our law enforcement officers in the area and talking to fellow members of the media
- 3:52while I was gone, you know, law enforcement for one reason or another,
- 3:55there's not exactly been forthcoming with this whole thing. What may or may
- 4:00not have happened on Monday, May fifteenth. Finally, on Friday of that
- 4:05week, just before I went on vacation, and don't read too much into
- 4:09that. WOWKTV went with the story on what little they or any of us
- 4:14had. Hoppy on that day brought it up with Knaan County Commissioner Ben Selango
- 4:18on talk line. Commissioner Selango's appearance on Hoppy, by the way, was
- 4:23already scheduled well before these allegations were reported, allegations that everybody knew about,
- 4:29and they went with that. On that Friday morning at eleven o'clock, Hoppy
- 4:32brought it up to Commissioner Selango. Into his credit, he did address it.
- 4:39So where does it stand now? There's not much to report and there
- 4:43probably won't beat for some time. Commissioner Krper, frequent guests and friend of
- 4:47the show, was admitted to the hospital later in the week, as you
- 4:49well know, for heart surgery. Into my knowledge, he is still recovering
- 4:53at the hospital now. Last week his family issued a statement through a PR
- 4:58firm, same baseically that the actions that were alleged to have taken place by
- 5:02Commissioner Carper, whatever they were, may have been brought on by a medical
- 5:08condition. Seems, you know, a little suspect, but I'm not a
- 5:13medical professional, so I'll leave that up to those folks. I will say
- 5:16I wish Commissioner Commissioner Carper the best in his recovery. But in the words
- 5:21of Ricky Ricardo, he's got some explaining to do once he's able, and
- 5:26I will, like every other media personality in this city and state, afford
- 5:30him that opportunity to tell his side of the story should he choose to.
- 5:34But as for now, I guess you're caught up totally ever related to any
- 5:40of that. Let's welcome back in our good friend, rich klient rich the
- 5:43realtory, if you will, for Muk's Realty with an update and what's going
- 5:45on in the world of real estate here in the Canal Valley. How are
- 5:47you, Richard. Good, good to see you back. Thank you for
- 5:51coming back on the show. Last time you were on, and a lot
- 5:56of realtors have talked about this as well. We talked about the inventory or
- 6:00lack thereof of housing in the Canal Valley. Has it changed months since last
- 6:03time you were on. Not much, not much. I ran some numbers
- 6:06this morning and in the last well certainly just our total inventory of the eleven
- 6:13counties that are Connavaldwar Realtors cover there are four hundred and ninety current active listings,
- 6:17so that's maybe a little bit up from the last time, maybe by
- 6:20ten or fifteen or so, but not much. That's um we'll get like
- 6:26here's here's an example. In seven days or so, we had sixty two
- 6:30new listings hit the Canavaldawarre Reltors out of eleven counties, total of sixty two,
- 6:35and we had sixty eight go pending. So it would say go pending.
- 6:41I mean, I know what that means. Would explain that to people.
- 6:43So that's a contract or an accepted contract on a sale. So someone
- 6:46puts her house in the marketing goes pending when they get it, when they
- 6:48actually accept the contract. So of the sixty two that went live, brand
- 6:55new listings and then an additional sixty eight go pending sale. So what's the
- 7:00reason there's many more buyers? I mean, but I mean, why this
- 7:03big you know you've been doing real estate for a while. Why why this
- 7:08sudden shake up for lack of a better term, in the market where everybody's
- 7:13going crazy. We were joking in the green room, but it's to the
- 7:15point now in Tay's valley that if somebody takes their curtains down to watch them,
- 7:17they've got like five realtors and and ten perspective buyers show it up and
- 7:21you're like, I'm just cleaning my curtains, man. Yeah, you know,
- 7:25it's it's really just about the demand. So there's it really is,
- 7:29in my opinion, linked to the to the inventory number that people get that
- 7:31feeling like holy moally that house is on the market. We're never going to
- 7:34find some, you know, somewhere to go. People move for various reasons.
- 7:39And I was talking in the green room to your upcoming guests just about
- 7:42the you know, there are still people out there who want to buy.
- 7:45Lots of folks um don't have to sell, so they're just sitting tight and
- 7:48wait, kind of waiting the storm out, so to speak. The storm
- 7:51has been going now for a little while. So and as a reminder of
- 7:55my one of my favorite scenes, it's just you, you know, you
- 7:57date the rate and then marry the house, so rates will come down at
- 8:01some point. You can always refinance the rate, you know. But some
- 8:05people are just riding the storm out because they don't have to go. But
- 8:07there are lots of people who still have to buy. They're going somewhere.
- 8:11They're either getting married and moving, or their job changes, or they're relocating
- 8:15to the state, and those are those are still buyers, and they know
- 8:18the inventories low, so they're anxious to get it. And there's there's still,
- 8:22you know, an abundance of buyers out there, even when the rates.
- 8:26You know, right now, if you go to if you're a good
- 8:28credit score and you're a good DTI or debt to income ratio, you're still
- 8:31at seven one according to our buddy Eric Smith this morning. So you know,
- 8:35that's a big number from where it was a couple of years ago,
- 8:39but it's not a big number generally speaking over the course of time, and
- 8:41again I believe it'll come back down. We're talking to a rich client of
- 8:46Meek's realty. He joins us from time to time to update us on the
- 8:48real estate market here in the Canal Valley five eighty live. It's it's nine
- 8:52to sixteen, okay. So let's say rich, my wife and I decide
- 8:56that we want to take advantage of the market situation and put our house on
- 9:00the market. We know, first thing to do is get a quality realtors
- 9:03such as yoursell But what do we need to do to get the house ready
- 9:09to go on the market. There's always this. It's kind of like with
- 9:11a car. My brother in laws in the car business, and it's always,
- 9:13well, the car needs some repairs. Do I fix it first or
- 9:18do I let the prospective buyer or the dealership take care of it? Is
- 9:22it's the same and realty. What do we need to do first? Yeah,
- 9:24that's a great question. And get this I get this question all the
- 9:28time. And you know, obviously you want to get a professional realtor in
- 9:30there to help guide you on what you should and shouldn't do. There are
- 9:33certain things I don't believe that are necessary, particularly with the state of the
- 9:35market. You know, some of those larger repairs. I don't think you
- 9:39remodel bathrooms and you know, put seventy thousand dollars in a kitchen kind of
- 9:43thing prior to selling. But in terms of the of the general deferred maintenance
- 9:48things, that'll be the things that will slow the sail down if you can
- 9:50get into some of the deferred maintenance things. But some of the probably the
- 9:56low hanging fruit, which you would do. I tell people make sure all
- 10:00the light bulbs are burning. I would give the house a good cleaning.
- 10:03You'll be surprised of what we see. And some of the listings would go
- 10:05in. I minimize your furniture, don't get rid of all your furniture.
- 10:09That's another question that comes up. Should I go ahead and just sell my
- 10:11moving sale and that kind of stuff? And I would tell you not to
- 10:13do that. It shows much better when it's stage, when you have se
- 10:18at least something at it. I mean, I couldn't recall with my wife
- 10:20and I looked at houses, you know, walking in and I just don't
- 10:22have that much imagination, you know, I got to see what it's going
- 10:26to look like, right. But that's what your realtor will help you with,
- 10:28you know. But I would tell you to minimize the furniture. If
- 10:31you've got over stock and your furniture and some of the rooms that make the
- 10:33rooms seems smaller, I would remove that stuff. They also some of the
- 10:37advice will come out to get rid of some of the personal items, like
- 10:41personal pictures of your family, you know, you just have to keep.
- 10:43I don't know that I would get rid of all of that kind of stuff.
- 10:46But you don't want anything that you wouldn't want to post on social media
- 10:50because there's gonna be lots of people coming into your so if there are,
- 10:52you know, pictures of kids that you don't want out there, So don't
- 10:56leave the credit card laying around, don't leave passion credit cards and fire arms,
- 11:00things like that kind of thing. But and then minimize all of your
- 11:03closet stuff, make your runs to your charitable donation and thin out that stuff
- 11:09so that it looks like there's plenty of space in your room or in your
- 11:13house. Fresh paint goes a long way, so I will I always advise
- 11:16folks to go ahead and paint and make it look and paint in neutral colors,
- 11:18don't put anything crazy in there. But that's kind of where I would
- 11:24steer people initially. Rich. I know, the market now is unlike any
- 11:26market we've seen. We talked about the earlier in the past, but in
- 11:30general, how long might I be looking at like get some serious offers and
- 11:35eventually a sale on my place? Yeah, So depends on where you are
- 11:39and your and your specific area. If your house is sellable and you've done
- 11:43those things, you're you know, you're defer maintenance things are done, You're
- 11:46gonna have a home that's going to be hot. You're talking about a couple
- 11:50of days or so in Putnam County, maybe up to a week in certain
- 11:54other areas, but the days on market for the average is less than seven
- 11:58days. And you mentioned Funham County. Of course, you know, you
- 12:01folks are all over the Kanalla Valley, but you live in Putnham County.
- 12:03It's how I know, you know, being a fellow Putnham County. And
- 12:07it's it is about to explode once again in Putnham County. I wasn't there
- 12:11in the nineteen nineties. I guess when the big explosion happened in the nineties
- 12:13into two thousands, and it's sort of leveled off. It is about to
- 12:18get real in Putnham County yet again. And and and and for what most
- 12:22people are telling us, mainly because of new Core, it's going to be
- 12:26even more with people flooding into Putnam County. Yeah. Well, and as
- 12:30population grows, there are other areas that support that. The ancillary positions,
- 12:33the doctors and you know, surgery centers that just went up, and hurricane
- 12:39that is new like that kind of stuff is coming and um, it will
- 12:43create a boom and it will create traffic. It's already created. Try and
- 12:48turn left on. But you know, we really need costability to go down
- 12:54so that the builders out there in the world, and if you're listening,
- 12:56please build us some poms to sell. But it's the cost of building has
- 13:01to go down and be reasonable for those guys to make some money. Rich's

- 17:18I'm good. Thank you for having me today. Thank you for being
- 17:21here. And I know it's a busy time for you folks. A matter
- 17:22of fact, you ducked out of a meeting to do this interview, and
- 17:26I appreciate that. Thank you very much. Sure, Dad, you're welcome.
- 17:30We're excited. I'm excited to talk about our new flight option. So
- 17:33tomorrow is going to be a big day on the hill. Tell us what's
- 17:36going on. Yeah, tomorrow is a big day. We're very excited to
- 17:38welcome Breeze to Charleston with new direct flights to Charleston, South Carolina and Orleano,
- 17:45Florida. And let's talk about the whole timeline here page. How did
- 17:48this whole thing with Breeze come about? Yeah, well, you know,
- 17:53we unfortunately lost their risk with Spirit Airlines, but we are staff worked quickly
- 18:00with members of the Governor's staff, the can Algana Commission, and Charleston.
- 18:04You know, we all work together to bring Breeze to the airport, and
- 18:07we're very excited to have them. So what will people see at the airport
- 18:11tomorrow? What's the timeline of events tomorrow and what's going to happen there.
- 18:15We have a very early kickoff tomorrow morning, so Charleston, South Carolina arrives
- 18:21actually at eight thirty in the morning. We're going to have a gate party
- 18:23for our passengers all day long. We'll have another flight coming in around three
- 18:27from Orlando, so we'll celebrate that as well. So a lot of celebrations
- 18:32for our passengers tomorrow. And this is just the beginning, with the promise
- 18:37of much more to come in the future. Is that right? It is?
- 18:40Stay tuned for more exciting announcements for other direct routes. Hopefully we might
- 18:45have an announcement for you tomorrow, say stay tuned, all right, they'd
- 18:48be good, that'd be good. So so far, what does the public's
- 18:51response, bet? I mean, this news first came out a couple of
- 18:52months ago, and there's a lot of who applause, you said, with
- 18:55a lot of the political folks up there and you folks at the airport,
- 18:56and everybody's excited about it. What's been a response from the public though so
- 19:00far it's been great. So or the demand for Orlando has been so great
- 19:06that they've actually uped that weekly from two times a week to four times a
- 19:08week. So the demand to Orlando is there. We're starting to build that
- 19:14demand for Charleston, South Carolina. It's a great place to visit. So
- 19:17do you guys haven't booked your summer vacations yet? Looking the Breeze um,
- 19:22they're a great airline with, you know, great options for flights. What's
- 19:26a flight to Charleston, South Carolina looked like as far as time wise?
- 19:30Approximately? I don't expect it to be exact, but how long does it
- 19:33taket to fly there? Approximately? About an hour? Okay, well it's
- 19:37so somebody who drove south to a vacation spot last week. I would definitely
- 19:42be taking you up on that, I think, and plus, I believe
- 19:44it or not, I've never been to Charleston, South Carolina. Here.
- 19:45It's a beautiful city. It's an area that I would I'd like to visit
- 19:48and Paygona. A lot of people worked hard to make this happen. Do
- 19:52you want to want to throw out some some some kind works for some people
- 19:56that made this happen. Yeah, we're you know, it was truly a
- 19:59part ownership. We all work together with you know, the Governor's staff of
- 20:03State of West Virginia, the Kenong County Commission, a city of Charleston.
- 20:07I mean, so many people is thinking for bringing this wonderful airline to Charleston.
- 20:11So we're just so grateful to everyone. Page we had before we let
- 20:15you go, we had a text to the show. Someone asked the texts
- 20:18at the beginning of the show when I asked you were going to be on
- 20:21asking if you can comment on any plans for expanding the airport the airport itself,
- 20:26Is there any anything planned, anything can comment on? Or is that
- 20:29not your department or what? No, not this time too early in that
- 20:33environmental study right now, so nothing we can really say right now. Well,

- 21:29five and I am Dave Allen. That's Jeff Patty on the other side of
- 21:33the glass, and I have Tony Hodge, who's the State Republican Party co
- 21:37chair in studio with guests this morning. Tony, Good morning, How are
- 21:41you sir? Good morning, Dave. I'm glad to be here. How
- 21:42are you? I am fine? This airport stuff, man, this excites
- 21:45you because people may not know this about you. You're a pilot, I
- 21:48am. I see you on the Book of Face. Man, you're just
- 21:52flying all over the play. How how did you get into that? I
- 21:56don't know. I mean, I think it's it's a lifelong passion that I've
- 21:57had since I was young. I remember flying with a guy named five dollars
- 22:02Frank. Some of the listeners might know who that is. His name was
- 22:03Frank Thomas out of Fayetteville, West Virginia. And you could go up there
- 22:07any day of the week, anytime, pay the man five bucks and he'd
- 22:11give you a flight around the New Vic Gorge area and the New Vic Gorge
- 22:15Bridge. So I used to do that as a teenager, and that kind
- 22:17of sparked my interest. And you know, you get life gets moved along,
- 22:21you get married, you have children and things like that, and things
- 22:22kind of get away from you. But when COVID hit, I said,
- 22:25you know what, I'm gonna follow after my dream, go after it.
- 22:27And I did, and we've been flying now for a couple of years.
- 22:30It's it's been a lot of fun. But I will tell you about this
- 22:33airport announcement that's really interesting. Like you, I've never been to Charleston,
- 22:37South Carolina, and this connection, you know, might make a way for
- 22:41me and my family to go. But she also said that there was Orlando,
- 22:45and that would have been nice because I just got back from Orlando over
- 22:47the Memorial Day weekend and I actually drove over to Cincinnati to take that flight
- 22:52down. A lot of people do that. Yeah, yeah, and so
- 22:55out of Charleston, that'll be really nice. But on top of that,
- 22:56what I'd really like to see, and this is my home for West Virginia,
- 23:00is that these flights aren't just an outbound way of thinking about things.
- 23:07But I want Charleston, West Virginia to be the destination. And I think
- 23:10that can happen when we have the right leaders in place, the right mindset
- 23:12in place. We need instead of Charleston, South Carolina. We need those
- 23:17guys coming up here and we need to make that happen. So I'm optimistic.
- 23:19I love it. You see the way he just smoothly transitioned into politics.
- 23:23There, that's why you're the man. There's this guy you got with
- 23:26you here? Tell tell us about this kid? Well over here to my
- 23:29left, I have Hayden Hodge, who happens to be my son. He's
- 23:32a high school student at Hurricane High School, and he likes to fly.
- 23:37He likes politics. Pretty smart kid, say, Hi, Hayden pretty much
- 23:40just take after my dad. There. Yeah, thank you for having me
- 23:44on today. It means a lot. Well, thanks for being here.
- 23:45I appreciate that. You know, Tony's a regular on the show. And
- 23:48Tony so you're not as enteresting to me as the listeners or the listeners as
- 23:52this young man is. So we'll talk to you in a minute. Tell
- 23:56us about Haydan Hodge, tell us about you. Well, I'm a student
- 23:59at Hurrican High School. Just graduated or not just graduated, just got out
- 24:03of my sophomore year at high school. That's why I'm here today. I
- 24:07don't have school today because I didn't have to take the finals. Um.
- 24:12I really like to read, and like dad said, I really like to
- 24:15fly. I would actually like to go to the Air Force Academy after I
- 24:18do graduate and hopefully be able to go there to learn how to fly for
- 24:22the Air Force. So that's one of my dreams. Now, you're already
- 24:27involved in politics to a certain extent, I mean, on the outsides a
- 24:32little bit. But you know, when that's your dad, you don't really
- 24:33have much of a choice. Although, to be fair, I think if
- 24:37you didn't have an interest, and I don't think he'd probably push you too
- 24:40much. But but why has um? What is it about politics that fascinate
- 24:45ate you? Because I've known you for several years since you where I actually
- 24:47you're taller than I am now, but most people wakes up Tony. But
- 24:52I know you've been involved in politics, had an interest in it for some
- 24:53time. What is it about politics that interest you as a young man?
- 24:56Well, I really do think that I get that political mindset from my dad.
- 25:00I feel like most of that interest comes from him. But I would
- 25:06say that one of the things that really really interests me is history. I
- 25:10really love history classes. I take them every year at school, and just
- 25:15the history of our country really fascinates me. And then learning how the early
- 25:21founders of our country and learning the politics behind that. I guess that's really
- 25:25intrigued me to like politics now. So, like you know, all the
- 25:27founding fathers and the first political parties, that really interests me. So so
- 25:33when you look back at the at your histories and your studies of the founding
- 25:36fathers, what do you think the founding fathers would think of America's a day?
- 25:42I think it would be split. I think that's a loaded question.
- 25:47Yes, I think that you would have one half who would be kind of
- 25:52like, Okay, some of this stuff I don't get because you can imagine
- 25:56people from that time period not understanding where we're at now, because even the
- 26:00progressives back then, I don't think they would have ever imagined being as progressive
- 26:06as we are now. Um, and I don't think the progressive fifteen years
- 26:10ago wouldn't, so you can imagine how bad it'd be for those in the
- 26:15in the late seventeen Yeah, and then the other half would kind of be
- 26:19like, what in the world we we tried so hard to keep traditionalism and
- 26:26now we are so far progressive that even the progressives of that time period would
- 26:30be shocked. So like people like Hamilton and the Federalist Party, I think
- 26:34they would be completely bewildered. And then the Democratic Republican Party and and Jefferson
- 26:40and Madison and then I feel like they would be kind of like, I
- 26:42don't know if we were really pushing this far. Uh So that's where I
- 26:47think it where they would stand on that. So, now you mentioned that
- 26:49you want to do um eventually go into the air force, in the academy
- 26:53post that once that is that is that? Do you want that to be
- 26:57a career do you want to transition add into I would like that to be
- 27:00a career um and then after I retire, I would like to to go
- 27:06into politics. Politics has been a lifelong dream for me. I've always wanting
- 27:08to be involved in it. And then I think that personally, I have
- 27:11like almost a moral responsibility to get into politics because with me, my Christian
- 27:17beliefs are very strong with with me, I I you know, christ is
- 27:22that he means the most to me, and I feel like it's my moral
- 27:25responsibility to spread his word and to uh, you know, make the make
- 27:30the world a better place through him. And I feel like the most or
- 27:33the easiest way to do that is through politics. What level of politics would
- 27:37you see yourself doing, you know, governor, senators, the Supreme Court.
- 27:41I mean, I would like to I would like to maybe start lower
- 27:45and then work my way up, so I know that I would need experience
- 27:48to do the bigger stuff, So I'd probably start in like state legislature and
- 27:52then just move up from there. Okay, Tony, there's really no reason
- 27:56for you to be here for the rest of the show I'm just a Kid

- 31:40Quick programming note about tomorrow's show. We're gonna have some folks from the Charlesonnary
- 31:44Alliance on the show tomorrow. Plus, there's a program called Backpack Buddies in
- 31:48the area that it's really a great program to provide things for students that don't
- 31:52necessarily have a lot during the summertime. And so one of the guys that's
- 31:56over that program, it's going to join us. And we've all seen not
- 32:00only here but nationwide, for lack of a better term, the epidemic that
- 32:06we have going on with parents out of control parents at sporting events. A
- 32:10good friend of mine, who is a high school baseball coach outside the Kanal
- 32:15Valley, did a Facebook post about it, and this thing has gone viral
- 32:19nationwide. The guy's name is Kevin Gertz, and he's the head baseball coach
- 32:22at Logan High my alma mater, but he's also the head girls basketball coach,
- 32:28and he just went on a rant last week about youth sports, not
- 32:31necessarily about the youth part, but about the parental aspect of it and how
- 32:37these parents, many of them, are out of control at games. And
- 32:40so Kevin did this random post on Facebook last week and it went viral across
- 32:45the nation. And so Kevin Gertz, the head coach of Logan High baseball
- 32:50team and the girls basketball team, is going to join us to talk about
- 32:52that on the show tomorrow. Tony Hodges here, State Republican Party coach here.
- 32:55Son Hayden is here as well. Tony, let's go back to old
- 32:59dad here from went and I want to talk about some upcoming races within the
- 33:01Republican Party. Now. To be fair, as a Republican Party co chair,
- 33:07you know you don't take sides on anything, but I just kind of
- 33:12want to get your opinion of the races for governor. We have Attorney General
- 33:15Patrick Morrison, Della get More Capital, Secretary of State Mac Warner, State
- 33:20Auditor J. B. Mccusky out of dealer Chris Miller. That's just a
- 33:23few. There may be more that'll get in. That's a lot of names,
- 33:29Tony, and a lot of personalities to try to keep in check.
- 33:32It is very strong personalities and a lot of times you'll find that people who
- 33:37run for office they naturally bent toward having a strong personality. But I will
- 33:42say that all of those candidates that you just named are they're fantastic candidates.
- 33:45I mean, we have these are a list people in our state. They've
- 33:50all have proven leadership abilities in the areas that they work in, and I'm
- 33:54really proud that all of those guys have stepped up. Obviously, you know,
- 33:58the state's gonna have to choose one. There will only be one winner.
- 34:00But you know, we ought to be proud because, as you know,
- 34:04we've talked about it in a million times, but there was a time
- 34:07in the state where you know, the Republicans had a hard time feel in
- 34:09the ballot. And now we have more people than really we need applying for
- 34:14each of these jobs. And but we're you know, they're interviewing with us.
- 34:17They're out there interviewing with us. We hire them, and us meeting
- 34:22the voters. You meant the voters, yes, yes, the vote.
- 34:23I didn't want people to think that you meant the Republican leadership that I'm interviewing
- 34:28with, which they do to that to a certain extent, but the ultimate
- 34:30people to do the hiring, so to speak, will be the voters.
- 34:32That's what I meant. Yeah, the voters of this state. And I
- 34:35have the utmost confidence in our voters. Um and whoever they choose primary next
- 34:39year, you know, that's who we're going to back as a party and
- 34:43we'll be all in to defeat the Democrats. Would you like to see less
- 34:47people? I mean nobody's gonna would. I mean some of those people that
- 34:51I mentioned will probably withdraw, but by the time the primary, because it
- 34:53becomes a money factor, they're simply not able to raise the money. And
- 34:57I've had Greg Thomas on the show and others that have said they get to
- 35:00such and such date and we realize we don't have enough money in the bank.
- 35:04We're wasting our time. Let's go back to our other job. Let's
- 35:07go pursue something in the private sector or maybe a different position or whatever.
- 35:10Would would you like to see less people running? Oh? No, I
- 35:15actually think it's better if there's more people. I think the more people that
- 35:17are out there, the more ideas are getting thrown around. And I think
- 35:21the more ideas that get thrown around, the better off we are. Now.
- 35:23Uh. You know, for me personally, if I was going to
- 35:27run for office. Uh, you know, I might be nervous if I'm
- 35:30getting into a race with five people or six people. But there's other ways
- 35:32to look at that. Sometimes you might say the more of the marrier because
- 35:36then in a primary race you may you may come out the winner with you
- 35:38know, twenty one percent of the vote. Um, you know, yeah,
- 35:42it's it's we've seen that in House of Delegate races, even over I
- 35:45live in Putnam County. That that's happened before, back when we had multi
- 35:50member districts, and so you know, there's a lot of different ways to
- 35:52look at it. But no, I think I think the more of the
- 35:54marrier. Uh. Probably, like I said, more ideas getting thrown around
- 35:59out there is better for the state as a whole. And there's talk now
- 36:04that it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that our Democrat side for governor that Huneyton
- 36:07mayor Steve Williams is is going to join. There's added speculation now that Canon
- 36:14County Commission Commissioner Ben Selango may give it another run. There may be some
- 36:19other candidates on the Democratic side. Does it make any difference in your opinion,
- 36:23Well, the Republicans are going to win so it really doesn't matter.
- 36:27I mean, they can if they want to go in and waste a bunch
- 36:29of money, that's that's on them, you know, And that's fine if
- 36:31that's if people have that kind of money to go in and spend a million
- 36:35dollars just to basically flush it down the drain, and that's what's going to
- 36:37happen. I mean over in Huntington, it's the opioid capital of the country.
- 36:42We all know what's going on in Huntington, and we know who's been
- 36:45at the helm over there. Uh In as far as uh County Commissioner Silango,
- 36:51you know, he ran once for governor and really got beat bad.
- 36:53Like it was embarrassing. It was totally embarrassing, and I thought it was
- 36:57really interesting. I was listening to your show last week or two weeks ago,
- 37:00and unbeknownst to me, I did not know that Commissioner Selengo's wife,
- 37:05who's also an elected official, has switched to the Republican Party. And I
- 37:09listened to the conversation you had on the air about that, and I thought
- 37:14that was very interesting and I'm still a little puzzled there. But be interesting
- 37:19if Sealingo got in running as governor and his wife, who's actually very prominent
- 37:23in her role or position, has switched a Republican for reasons unknown to me.
- 37:29And you know, it's interesting about that because when I've had Greg Thomas,
- 37:32Republican strategist on the show in the past, you don't want to count
- 37:36their chickens before they're proverbly hatched yet. But Gregg says that a lot of
- 37:40the Republicans, and I'm not talking about what you do as far as a
- 37:44party, but I mean the outside people are going to be looking at more
- 37:47races like county commission, at more races like judges, And even though they're
- 37:52nonpartisan, you know what their parties are, as simple search in the Secretary
- 37:55of State's website will tell you what their parties are. So there is really
- 37:59no such thing as nonpartisan per se. You're you're registered as a party,
- 38:02or you're register no party. You know, and that a lot of attention
- 38:07is going to be spent more in those because the thinking is is that there's
- 38:10no reason for a lot And I know you don't want to take anything for
- 38:14granted, that's not what you do, but you don't want to necessarily spend
- 38:17all the time and energy on races for governor when the Republican is going to
- 38:21win no matter who it is. In some people's eyes that in the Senate
- 38:24scene, we don't know what Joe Manchon's going to do yet, but it's
- 38:28either going to be Justice or Mooney. That's what a lot of people think.
- 38:31Your thoughts on that before we move well, yeah, I mean I
- 38:34think you don't want to take any race for granted, and that means governor,
- 38:37senator, or city council. I'll tell you yesterday I spent a little
- 38:42bit of time in Fayette County, West Virginia, and up there they're coming
- 38:45up on their municipal elections, which there's a lot of municipal elections around the
- 38:49states this year. Yeah, and so we're you know, got a little
- 38:52bit of focus on that. But it's interesting because they are, you know,
- 38:55not labeled Republican or Democrat. You know, it's supposed to be nonpartisan,
- 38:59but clearly so when you're driving through Fat County, you can see clumps
- 39:02of yard Science and those people, the little clumps, the good old boys.
- 39:07You know, they're all running together as a ticket, and you know
- 39:08they're all Democrats because they've been pasted Democrats in Fat County for years and years,
- 39:13although some of them now are registered unaffiliated, which is kind of a
- 39:15sneaky way to get in there. And then you have the other guys who
- 39:19are Republicans who are trying to make inroads into that system that's been in place
- 39:23in that area for a very long time. And so we're very hopeful that
- 39:27we'll get some Republicans there on a local level. That's Fat County for an
- 39:30example, but we're looking at races all around the state and I'm talking about
- 39:32some of the other battles. And again, Republican State Party co Chair Tony
- 39:37Hodges here, Hayden Hodges here, when we get back, you're not off
- 39:38the hook yet because you have text. Wait. I want to get to
- 39:42you once from your mom. This has clean your room, But we have
- 39:46Tony. Three Republicans have announced their attentions to run for Secretary of State.
- 39:51At least one Republican is running for state auditor. The battle for Attorney General
- 39:55between a couple of current state senators, Mike Stewart and Ryan Weld, is
- 39:59going to be ugly. In fact, it's already ugly. Both have been
- 40:01talking smack against each other on this show and other places to Mike Stewart,
- 40:06by the way, we'll be on Hoppy today to probably fire the next shots
- 40:09in that in that race, I'm sure, and I say that to say
- 40:13this, much like the Democrats had to face for eighty plus years in the
- 40:16state. You folks, you folks in leadership, have got your work cut
- 40:21out for you. As I as I referenced earlier Tony, to try to
- 40:24keep every one somewhat civil with each other and then when primary season is over,
- 40:32everyone can kind of hug it out and become friends. Again. That's
- 40:35a big job. It is. It is you have to bring unity,
- 40:38and that's part of being in leadership is knowing how to get everybody rowing in
- 40:43the same direction. You know, you mentioned the attorney general race with Mike
- 40:47Stewart and Ryan Wild who are both sitting state senators right now. I know
- 40:51both of those guys. I've talked to both those guys. They're both great
- 40:53guys. The neat thing about the Republican Party is we have you know,
- 40:58it's a marketplace ideas in our party, and that's what we wanted to be.
- 41:01We want it to be sort of a free market atmosphere. And it
- 41:04doesn't have anything to do with, you know, whether Mike Stewart's a good
- 41:07guy or whether Ryan Well's a good guy. Let's talk about their ideas and
- 41:10let's let the best ideas win. So that's what we're looking at. And
- 41:13whoever the voters think has the best ideas and is the best to sit in
- 41:17that office, that's who they vote for. But they're both great guys.
- 41:21And I'm here to tell you we have top notch candidates, all of them,
- 41:24all the way around the board. And I kind of hate the primary
- 41:27that we have to do this, but it is something we have to do.
- 41:29And then afterward, we're going to get behind our candidates and we're going
- 41:30to promote them and we're gonna beat the Democrats. And I hope that you're
- 41:36right. And I don't mean that necessarily. I'm not taking sides here.
- 41:39What I'm saying is I hope that people can come together. And I would
- 41:43say that if that were Democrats, because I just I like everybody to get
- 41:45along, man, you know, And I wish and I hope that that
- 41:49is the case, but it's not already. Now. The governor's race,
- 41:53I think is going to get a little uglier. But I think this Attorney
- 41:58general race and it's as I said, between Stewart and the world, it's
- 42:00already started. And I think you're gonna have you work cut out for you
- 42:04healing some wounds there. I could be wrong, and I hope I am,
- 42:06But I think you're gonna have your work cut out for you. Tech
- 42:08says Dave. Are you running a dog's line? Sounds like a lot of
- 42:10grooming going on there, like you're grooming your son. Well, Hayden can
- 42:15speak for yourself. But before I let him speak up on that, I
- 42:19mean, I'll just tell you as a father, I we are my home.
- 42:23Our home, Minor Jusica's home is open. Just like I said to
- 42:27ideas and thought, not controlling or anything like that. I let my children
- 42:31make up their own mind on you wouldn't believe on a host of different things.
- 42:36Now, obviously we guide them, you know, in the right direction.
- 42:37We wanted to be good citizens and all that, but as far as
- 42:42the way they want to lead their lives, their political thoughts, they're even
- 42:45a lot of times with their religious thoughts. We are an open home.
- 42:46We talk, We talk about the deepest questions you can imagine and nothing is
- 42:51off limits. As a father, one of the things I've always told my
- 42:53children is no question, no question is off limits. Don't ever be embarrassed
- 42:59to come in out ask me something. Don't ever be don't ever feel like,
- 43:01oh, Dad might think differently if I ask this or that, ask
- 43:05it, ask away, Because while they're under my care, I want to
- 43:08be able to, you know, have give them answers and tell them the
- 43:13things that that they're wondering about. And I would rather have them come to
- 43:15me while they're in my care than go to some person well they barely know,
- 43:20and who who knows what they're gonna tell them? Ask away. So
- 43:22hey, then you can add on to that if you want. I disagree
- 43:25with my dad on several issues, and some some of those issues I can
- 43:30I want to know what those issues are. Well, I might not go
- 43:32there because some of them you might want to keep the car. Well,
- 43:38some of them they can actually, like me and Dad could actually get into
- 43:42like you know, So I don't want to say heated, because then that
- 43:45sounds like, you know, we get into an actual heated discussion. But
- 43:49we can get into it sometimes about some things absolutely that we disagree on.
- 43:52I can I could name five right now. I'm not going to, but
- 43:53I could. Um, I want to book you on the show by yourself.
- 43:59Um. But yeah, I mean there are several things that you know,
- 44:00I disagree with my my dad on my mom and my brother, My
- 44:04brother with UM because they they promote, you know, freethinking, and I
- 44:08think that that's really important. And you know, he asked if you were
- 44:12running a grooming salon, but I don't. I don't know if you're influencing
- 44:15me at all. Um. And then my dad, you know, obviously
- 44:19he teaches and he influences, but in a in a fatherly way, not
- 44:22in a controlling way. So I don't see well. And as you and
- 44:24I will say, this will go to break as a young person too.
- 44:27And I know you've probably heard this to like all young people are. You're
- 44:30tired of hearing it. Your your your thought process is going to evolve over
- 44:34the years. The things that you think at how do you fifteen? Things
- 44:37that you think at fifteen are not necessarily good to be the things in the
- 44:40way you think at twenty five or thirty. I mean, I'm I'm fifty
- 44:44two and and and I may change my my thought process has changed on some
- 44:47things the last couple of years. So you know it's just you know,
- 44:51it's ever evolving. Text says, listening to this young man speak with conviction
- 44:54on his love of Christ and of freedom, tells me one thing, Mom
- 44:58and Dad, you did good. God bless good luck with this young man.
- 45:00Yes, they did well, Mom, better than that. All right,
- 45:05we're gonna take a break. I guess the more texts to get two
- 45:07plus I want to get into the Senate races more. Tony Hodges here who
- 45:09is the Republican State Party co chair. His son Hayden is here as well.

- 47:55Force has one hundred forty one bombers. Does your young Christian guests think that's
- 47:59a not for us? Or do we need more bombers to drop bombs on
- 48:01our enemies? And what our founding fathers think it would be okay to let
- 48:05the families of their former enslave people fly them or is that too progressive?
- 48:09Oh boy, well, I think that there is when it comes to the
- 48:15bombers. I think that there's an aspect of defense there. And I don't
- 48:20think that Jesus is against defense of a country. In fact, one of
- 48:24his disciples disciples was a Jewish zealot who was one who would you know,
- 48:31go after the Romans in that time period. Obviously he doesn't condone violence,
- 48:36but when you're when it comes to defending the lives of the people in your
- 48:40country and fighting for a moral good, there's a certain responsibility that you have
- 48:45there. And the last time we use those bombers was whin so and then,
- 48:51um, what was the other thing that he said? I've already gone
- 48:53off the text here, let me keep talking. I was saying, okay,
- 48:58oh, here it is, and what our founding fathers think it would
- 49:01be okay to let the families or their former enslaved people fly them or is
- 49:05that too progressive? Ah? Yes, well, you see back then it
- 49:07was it was almost I hate to say it, but it was almost commonplace
- 49:12for those in the South to have slaves. Is that a good thing?
- 49:15Absolutely not? But can you really judge them based off the standards of today's
- 49:21time period? While that was absolutely a horrible and egregious act of slavery,
- 49:25was is it fair to judge them based on what we know now? Texas
- 49:30Democrat changing republic Democrats changing registration to runs Republicans. I don't like it.
- 49:37So it's a texture. What goes into that process Tony. We just had
- 49:39a delegate down in a Westpayette County. I think Delegate Pritt, who had
- 49:44been a Democrat who changed his party to Republican. Now, to be fair,
- 49:46Delegate Print has changed his party a lot of times thirty some, I
- 49:52think, is what what I was told. So what do you think about
- 49:55people being advantageous in change parties because they because the winds of change have come
- 50:04about. I mean, nobody really knows what's in a person's heart. I
- 50:07guess what kind of process, as in Republican leadership do you guys go through
- 50:10when somebody changes party. Is that something that they consult you about? Do
- 50:14they do it on their own? Is it fifty fifty? How does that
- 50:16work? Well, that's interesting that you bring that up. As far as
- 50:21sitting lawmakers or people who who are in office, a lot of times if
- 50:23they're going to switch, they will reach out to us and talk to us.
- 50:27And we like that because we like to talk talk these things through and
- 50:30talk about it. So in the case of Delegate Prit, you know,
- 50:34I had a personal conversation with him, as did Elgin, the my counterpart,
- 50:38and you know, we talked to him, and you know, people
- 50:44people change. You just said it a few minutes ago. You were telling
- 50:45Hayden, you know, what you think right now at fifteen might not be
- 50:49what you think at seventeen or nineteen or twenty five or whatever. And people
- 50:52have changed. So here's my thing is, I feel like you have to
- 50:54give them the benefit of the doubt. The interesting thing about a public official
- 50:59is they have to put their opinions on the record. So we're gonna know,
- 51:02we're gonna know what what Delegate Print does, We're gonna know what a
- 51:07lot of these other people who change what they do, you know, just
- 51:09like Senator Glenn Jefferies, Senator Mark Hunt. You know, all of these
- 51:14people have changed parties and coming up in the next session. Well, we
- 51:17had a few of them this session that that proved to be very reliable,
- 51:21you know, solid in our party. But that's that's coming up. And
- 51:24but but at the same time, you'll have people who who changed just for
- 51:29uh, just just for political advantageous reasons. And you got to watch that.
- 51:32All right, quick question, all right to Senate battle. We don't,
- 51:35as I said, we don't know what Senator Manson's gonna do as of
- 51:37yet. You're gonna have Jim Justice. We know that Congressman Alex Mooney's and
- 51:40we know that Chris Rose is in primary. Conventional wisdom would be that the
- 51:45top two are going to be the ones to choose. From your quick thoughts
- 51:46on that, not asking you to choose, but what do you think about
- 51:50the race? Thirty seconds? Uh? What I think about the race is
- 51:52Joe Manson said that he's not gonna lose any race that he enters, which
- 51:55tells me he probably won't run because he's the Republican's gonna win the race.
- 52:00The Republican will be the next Senator. Tony Hodge, the co chair of
- 52:04the State Republican Party, appreciate you being here as always, Hayden, thanks
- 52:07a lot and a great job. So much better than your old man,
