- 0:12Speaker 1: Hey, good morning.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Welcome to Car Talk here on K1, AM 1400, FM 93.3, 95.1.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Also on Facebook Live and K1TV. com. Nathan Thompson, Brad Dunges
- 0:26Speaker 2: with Dunges Toyota in studio. How are you doing this morning, Doug?
- 0:29Speaker 1: Good morning, Nathan. I'm doing great. Good morning to everybody
- 0:32Speaker 1: out there listening, too. There you go. And you've got
- 0:35Speaker 1: a great guest today. I'm excited to hear about this one.
- 0:37Speaker 1: My new friend, Nathan. Holden Yoder, who's fairly new at
- 0:42Speaker 1: this point. I mean, you're not brand new anymore because
- 0:44Speaker 1: your season is well underway. This is. For Bartlesville Bruins softball.
- 0:49Speaker 1: First season at the helm of that great program. And
- 0:53Speaker 1: I'm really glad to have you here and get a
- 0:56Speaker 1: chance to hear what's going on with the start of school,
- 1:00Speaker 1: start of softball, and everything else that we can uncover.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Absolutely. I appreciate you guys letting me come in.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Welcome to Bartlesville. It's a great community. We're proud to
- 1:10Speaker 1: have you here. Your season is underway. You've got a
- 1:15Speaker 1: number of games under your belt already. How's it going?
- 1:23Speaker 4: About a week ago, I would have had a very
- 1:24Speaker 4: different answer for you. We started out 7-1. The expectations
- 1:29Speaker 4: we had coming into the season. We're right in the
- 1:32Speaker 4: middle of a four-game losing streak right now. That's been
- 1:35Speaker 4: That's been one of those things that obviously you don't
- 1:37Speaker 4: want to have to go through something like that. What
- 1:40Speaker 4: I will say, I've been extremely proud of how we've
- 1:43Speaker 4: handled it. We talk all the time about being consistent
- 1:46Speaker 4: in the way we do things on and off the field,
- 1:49Speaker 4: being process driven, not results driven. And so we've had
- 1:53Speaker 4: the opportunity to practice what we preach a little bit.
- 1:56Speaker 3: And so obviously that is.
- 1:57Speaker 1: So important in sports and in life and business to
- 2:01Speaker 1: learn to To be resilient and focus on the processes.
- 2:07Speaker 1: I like that, too. That's really what we do at
- 2:10Speaker 1: Dungest Toyota. For young people learning about life and doing that,
- 2:18Speaker 1: success all the time isn't going to teach you everything
- 2:21Speaker 1: if you've got to have some hard work and go
- 2:24Speaker 1: through those times to realize what you've got and what
- 2:29Speaker 1: it takes to to be successful.
- 2:34Speaker 4: And I will say, I'm one of the things I've
- 2:36Speaker 4: been very encouraged by. I've been extremely proud of how
- 2:39Speaker 4: we've handled that as a team. Um, I feel like
- 2:42Speaker 4: as a whole, the girls have responded very well to that,
- 2:45Speaker 4: that obviously there's some discouragement there when you start to struggle,
- 2:49Speaker 4: but that we have continued to stick to the process
- 2:52Speaker 4: and do things the way we want them to be done.
- 2:54Speaker 4: And just trusting that over the course of time, things
- 2:56Speaker 4: do start to go our way and we'll start to
- 2:59Speaker 4: see the results of that.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Well, I got a chance to meet a couple of
- 3:02Speaker 1: your players a few weeks ago, and they came in
- 3:05Speaker 1: and selling sponsorships, and that's how I got you on
- 3:08Speaker 1: the show eventually here. I will say they were great
- 3:12Speaker 1: representatives of the program, really enthusiastic and knew what was
- 3:17Speaker 1: going on. I like to ask them questions and see
- 3:19Speaker 1: what they have to say, and they were great. They
- 3:24Speaker 1: are a great representation of Bartlesville. It's not unique in Bartlesville.
- 3:28Speaker 1: We have so many great young people and they do
- 3:32Speaker 1: you know but then it's a great community for that
- 3:35Speaker 1: and I know they've been supporting your this team for
- 3:38Speaker 1: a long time and it's very very happy to have
- 3:41Speaker 1: you here you came from where'd you come from.
- 3:43Speaker 4: I was an assistant coach at Wyandotte last year which
- 3:46Speaker 4: is way up in the corner of northeast Oklahoma so
- 3:49Speaker 4: I was there for one year and then this is
- 3:52Speaker 4: this is year two year one at Bartlesville So you've.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Got the leadership, but now, what's that like? How do
- 3:59Speaker 1: you like being the head coach?
- 4:01Speaker 3: It's very different.
- 4:02Speaker 4: I knew that coming in, I knew that that would
- 4:04Speaker 4: be a transition. What I will say, I've had a
- 4:08Speaker 4: lot of people who've made that transition easier. Obviously, administration
- 4:12Speaker 4: has been very supportive, providing me the resources that I need.
- 4:15Speaker 4: I have good assistant coaches. Parents have been willing to
- 4:20Speaker 4: help out with the things we need to do. So
- 4:22Speaker 4: that's made my life a lot easier. but also the
- 4:25Speaker 4: fact that Coach Minton is still around. He's still on
- 4:30Speaker 4: staff at the school, and he has been a really
- 4:33Speaker 4: good sounding board. I've probably had, I don't want to exaggerate,
- 4:37Speaker 4: I've probably had 400 or 500 questions for him over
- 4:40Speaker 4: the last couple months, and he's been extremely good to
- 4:43Speaker 4: answer those questions and to just kind of be a
- 4:46Speaker 4: voice of reason when I'm trying to figure stuff out
- 4:48Speaker 4: that I haven't really had to deal with before, so.
- 4:51Speaker 4: all in all, you put those things together that has
- 4:53Speaker 4: made this transition a lot easier than what it otherwise.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Would have been. Where are you from originally? Where'd you
- 4:59Speaker 1: go to school?
- 5:00Speaker 3: I'm originally from Adair, Oklahoma.
- 5:02Speaker 4: So this is my first experience in any capacity at
- 5:07Speaker 4: a big school. I grew up in a small school.
- 5:10Speaker 4: I was employed at a small school last year. And
- 5:12Speaker 4: so that has been different. So it's been it's been good,
- 5:17Speaker 4: but yeah, there's definitely, definitely some differences there.
- 5:19Speaker 1: What drew you into coaching and teaching too?
- 5:23Speaker 4: I had a lot of really positive influences in my
- 5:27Speaker 4: life from coaches and teachers. And obviously I'm passionate about
- 5:33Speaker 4: softball or I wouldn't be doing this, but more than anything,
- 5:36Speaker 4: I would say that's, that's why I got into this
- 5:39Speaker 4: is I want to be able to spend time around
- 5:42Speaker 4: my students, around my players, and just be able to
- 5:45Speaker 4: have a positive impact on their life. One of the
- 5:48Speaker 4: other things we talk about, obviously success in softball is great,
- 5:51Speaker 4: but at the end of the day, this stuff is
- 5:54Speaker 4: not as important as we make it out to be.
- 5:56Speaker 4: Like if all we do for these girls or if
- 5:59Speaker 4: all I do for my kids is teach them how
- 6:00Speaker 4: to be successful now, that really doesn't matter. And so
- 6:04Speaker 4: just obviously wanting to do the best we can, but
- 6:07Speaker 4: using this as a tool to prepare them for, being
- 6:11Speaker 4: good family members, being involved in their community, being good bosses, employees,
- 6:14Speaker 4: whatever the case may be. In my mind, that's really
- 6:19Speaker 4: what this is about. And if we get to win
- 6:21Speaker 4: some games and accomplish some things along the way, then
- 6:24Speaker 4: so be it.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Awesome. Well, that is the story. I mean, that's the
- 6:29Speaker 1: story of our dealership in a lot of ways. My
- 6:32Speaker 1: grandfather was on a basketball team for a Ford dealer
- 6:36Speaker 1: in Tonkawa. in 1924, and he and two of his
- 6:44Speaker 1: brothers were on that team. Their father had passed away.
- 6:46Speaker 1: They moved to Tahoe from Blackwell and played on this team,
- 6:51Speaker 1: worked at the dealership. After he graduated from college a
- 6:55Speaker 1: few years later, the dealer helped them buy that car dealership,
- 6:59Speaker 1: and they ended up being Ford dealers for decades, and
- 7:03Speaker 1: they were done just Toyota as a legacy from that.
- 7:07Speaker 1: when he first got to Bartlesville, one of the first
- 7:10Speaker 1: things he did was start sponsoring American Legion baseball and the,
- 7:14Speaker 1: the now the Dunge's Toyota Indians. And, uh, we've sponsored
- 7:19Speaker 1: them since 1941. And, uh, we, it's so that, uh,
- 7:23Speaker 1: and the reason we keep doing that is because of
- 7:26Speaker 1: what you just talked about, uh, his passion for that,
- 7:30Speaker 1: how it impacted his life. And, uh, you know, it just, uh,
- 7:33Speaker 1: it's one of those things that, uh, that goes on
- 7:37Speaker 1: and on. And, uh, we're real happy to have you
- 7:39Speaker 1: in Burroughsville and I'm in Dunge's Toyota is proud to
- 7:41Speaker 1: sponsor your team this year and hopefully wish you a
- 7:44Speaker 1: lot of success.
- 7:46Speaker 3: Absolutely. I appreciate it. Thank you.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, and, uh, you're also teaching in school.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Yes.
- 7:52Speaker 1: What do you teach?
- 7:54Speaker 4: I teach eighth grade history over at central middle school.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Oh, central. Okay. My kids both went there. Yeah.
- 8:01Speaker 3: But no, that's been, that's been good as well.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Uh, yeah.
- 8:05Speaker 4: Again, I would say the same thing that I said
- 8:07Speaker 4: on the softball side. I've had a lot of help there.
- 8:10Speaker 4: I've had a lot of people support me and make
- 8:13Speaker 4: this transition easier.
- 8:16Speaker 3: The other history teachers in the.
- 8:17Speaker 4: Department have been extremely helpful with providing resources, being there
- 8:22Speaker 4: to bounce ideas off of. And so a lot of
- 8:25Speaker 4: people have gone into making that an easy transition.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Great. And you've got Game tonight, right? At home here.
- 8:34Speaker 1: And what else? I mean, let's talk about what you
- 8:37Speaker 1: expect and what's going on. What's next? How long does
- 8:40Speaker 1: the season go? I mean, you know, what's out there
- 8:45Speaker 1: for you?
- 8:45Speaker 4: If things go the way we want them to, the
- 8:46Speaker 4: season goes until the middle of October. That's when the
- 8:50Speaker 4: state tournament is. And like I said, regardless of how
- 8:54Speaker 4: good or how bad things are going at the moment,
- 8:56Speaker 4: that's always our end goal. Yeah, we play at home
- 8:59Speaker 4: tonight against Sepulpa. This is a district game for us,
- 9:02Speaker 4: so this is a game that has playoff implications. I'm
- 9:06Speaker 4: really excited for it. I felt we had a really
- 9:09Speaker 4: good day of practice yesterday. Like I said, I feel
- 9:11Speaker 4: like the girls have been doing a good job of
- 9:14Speaker 4: staying mentally tough, staying focused on the processes that we
- 9:16Speaker 4: have in place, and I'm excited for it. I think
- 9:19Speaker 4: once we get one out of the way, get going
- 9:22Speaker 4: back in the right direction, I think we're going to
- 9:24Speaker 4: start to roll. So we're at home tonight, and It'll
- 9:28Speaker 4: be a really good opportunity for us. We're home again
- 9:30Speaker 4: on Tuesday, I believe. We have another district game Tuesday night. And, yeah,
- 9:35Speaker 4: like I said, I'm excited. I think once we get
- 9:38Speaker 4: going in the right direction, I think this is really
- 9:39Speaker 4: going to take off.
- 9:40Speaker 1: And I know if people are interested in the games,
- 9:43Speaker 1: they can follow you somewhat on Facebook and get schedules.
- 9:47Speaker 1: What's the best.
- 9:48Speaker 4: Way to engage with what's going on? Yes, we have
- 9:51Speaker 4: social media on Facebook and Instagram. We have pages for
- 9:54Speaker 4: the softball program. all of our schedule updates, all of
- 9:58Speaker 4: our final scores, everything you would need will be on
- 10:01Speaker 4: both of those pages so yeah that's that's something that
- 10:04Speaker 4: we have people that work really hard to put that
- 10:07Speaker 4: out brandy harper is actually the one who's kind of
- 10:09Speaker 4: taking the lead on that this year um among a
- 10:12Speaker 4: host of other things, she's done a great.
- 10:14Speaker 3: Job with that.
- 10:14Speaker 1: It does take a community.
- 10:16Speaker 3: It takes a lot of people.
- 10:17Speaker 4: But, yes, that's something we put out, and we hope
- 10:20Speaker 4: that people will use to be involved in.
- 10:22Speaker 1: What we're doing. Yeah, I hope everybody will come out
- 10:24Speaker 1: and support the team this season. It is an exciting
- 10:28Speaker 1: time of year as school gets going. I know they're
- 10:30Speaker 1: very busy balancing all the work they have to do
- 10:33Speaker 1: for the team and for getting school going. We've been
- 10:37Speaker 1: very busy at the dealership this summer, this spring, August
- 10:42Speaker 1: in particular has been a great month so far. We're
- 10:46Speaker 1: on track to hit about 150% of our objective, which
- 10:50Speaker 1: will be the third month this year. We've been close
- 10:52Speaker 1: to 150%. That's great. It's been a big, big year,
- 10:57Speaker 1: really focusing on our customers and the experience they have
- 11:01Speaker 1: as we just continue to– Somebody asked me again this week,
- 11:08Speaker 1: so what's it like after you sold the Ford store?
- 11:11Speaker 1: We used to have the Ford dealership here. And, you know, it's,
- 11:15Speaker 1: you know, we miss Ford. And, of course, the Ford
- 11:19Speaker 1: blue oval was a big part of our family for
- 11:22Speaker 1: a long time. But I tell you what, I'm really
- 11:24Speaker 1: happier and happy to focus on Toyota. Just having one.
- 11:28Speaker 1: And having one and being able, you know, we're, it's
- 11:31Speaker 1: kind of unique in the car business today is that,
- 11:34Speaker 1: you know, so many big, corporations are involved in it
- 11:38Speaker 1: there's consolidation going on all the time it's happening in
- 11:43Speaker 1: the whole world you see this everything gets bigger and
- 11:46Speaker 1: bigger but we we want to stay small you know
- 11:50Speaker 1: we're one family a family owned and operated independent company
- 11:56Speaker 1: my office is on the showroom.
- 11:58Speaker 2: You can't hide from anybody Brad our customer was frustrated
- 12:03Speaker 2: a couple days ago and ran right out there and
- 12:07Speaker 2: talked to him.
- 12:08Speaker 1: And you know, you don't get that everywhere. That's what
- 12:11Speaker 1: we want to be, is that, you know, be the
- 12:14Speaker 1: face of the dealership, be there to represent, lead the team.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Our employees are so important. We can't do it without them.
- 12:22Speaker 1: And our customers, you know, I was reading, I got
- 12:26Speaker 1: a notice from Google last night. Somebody left a review
- 12:30Speaker 1: and I looked at it and And he started, what
- 12:33Speaker 1: a great dealership. Oh, you know what? It's always good
- 12:36Speaker 1: to get those, right? And we have had so many lately.
- 12:41Speaker 1: We just get, you know, we've been focused, like I said,
- 12:45Speaker 1: on that customer experience, being transparent and how you sell cars,
- 12:49Speaker 1: not playing a bunch of games with the numbers. You know,
- 12:52Speaker 1: we give you tools where you can do the, what
- 12:55Speaker 1: they call the desking of the deal yourself really, you know,
- 13:00Speaker 1: and calculate the payment, look at what happens with down
- 13:03Speaker 1: payment changes and term changes and, you know, select your
- 13:08Speaker 1: credit level. And, you know, so it's number one, it
- 13:12Speaker 1: makes everything faster. Yeah. Yeah. So you don't really have to,
- 13:16Speaker 1: it doesn't take as much time to go back and forth.
- 13:19Speaker 1: And of course, with the technology today, there's really no
- 13:23Speaker 1: reason that it should take that long. And, you know,
- 13:27Speaker 1: it is just simple math. We, you know, we take
- 13:31Speaker 1: all the games out of it, and we don't do
- 13:35Speaker 1: any dealer add-ons, no dock fee, nothing that makes it
- 13:38Speaker 1: more complicated.
- 13:40Speaker 2: You know, that sets you apart, Brad, because, you know,
- 13:42Speaker 2: what you see on the website is what you're going
- 13:45Speaker 2: to get.
- 13:45Speaker 1: That's true.
- 13:46Speaker 2: And you have the non-commissioned salespeople, so there's no surprises
- 13:50Speaker 2: in there. And, you know, in the car world, that's
- 13:54Speaker 2: a big, big differentiator.
- 13:57Speaker 1: I think so. And, you know, but it goes beyond that.
- 14:00Speaker 1: It goes to, you know, to really... having a relationship
- 14:03Speaker 1: with our customers. Totally, totally. You know, and that's, you know,
- 14:07Speaker 1: like with the community and through the softball team, this
- 14:11Speaker 1: is where we live. It's what we focus on and
- 14:13Speaker 1: want to, want to do, and we've done it for
- 14:16Speaker 1: so long this way, I don't know any other way
- 14:19Speaker 1: to do it. That sets you guys apart.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Toyota is consistently the top-selling vehicle manufacturer in the United States.
- 14:27Speaker 1: It's a big company.
- 14:29Speaker 2: It's a big company, and there is so much demand
- 14:33Speaker 2: for Toyota vehicles right now. I know that a lot
- 14:37Speaker 2: of people may come by and say, well, I don't see.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Where are the cars? Where are the cars? Exactly.
- 14:42Speaker 2: And so that's one thing that people notice about Toyota
- 14:45Speaker 2: dealerships is, okay, we may not have it here on
- 14:48Speaker 2: the lot, but I can get it for you.
- 14:51Speaker 1: We can. And we get allocated cars twice a month.
- 14:55Speaker 1: They take a snapshot of our inventory. And they allocate
- 15:00Speaker 1: more of what sells. It's a formula and it's based on,
- 15:04Speaker 1: you know, where the cars need to be. And every
- 15:06Speaker 1: dealer is treated the same. And believe me, in our
- 15:10Speaker 1: part of the world and the whole nation, really, we're
- 15:14Speaker 1: all growing like Dunge's is. And most of us are
- 15:18Speaker 1: turning our cars, you know, at around 85, 90 percent
- 15:22Speaker 1: a month selling cars. Most of the cars are available
- 15:26Speaker 1: to be sold. That's incredible. Yeah, it's great. It is great. And,
- 15:31Speaker 1: you know, in a way, it helps us to sell
- 15:33Speaker 1: cars for less so we don't have a big holding
- 15:36Speaker 1: cost on cars that are sitting on the lot or
- 15:38Speaker 1: aging vehicles, if you think about that. And I've been
- 15:41Speaker 1: there where sometimes where cars age and you end up
- 15:45Speaker 1: selling them for, a big loss and you've paid all
- 15:48Speaker 1: this money on interest to have the car sitting there
- 15:50Speaker 1: on the lot. What is that called? Floor plan. Floor plan. Yeah,
- 15:54Speaker 1: that's it. Floor plan interest. Because we are all, most
- 15:58Speaker 1: car dealers in America, Tesla's a little different, but most
- 16:02Speaker 1: other brands have, dealers are independent businesses. And, you know, back,
- 16:08Speaker 1: you know, 50 years ago, there were about 50,000 auto
- 16:11Speaker 1: dealers in America. Yeah. You know, 20,000, 20 years ago,
- 16:17Speaker 1: maybe there were 25,000. Now there's about 6,000 dealers in America.
- 16:24Speaker 1: And that's not because there's less dealership. It's just consolidation.
- 16:27Speaker 1: They've consolidated. You know, when I came to Bartlesville from
- 16:33Speaker 1: working at the Dunges Brothers Ford store in Tulsa in 2000,
- 16:38Speaker 1: I came. Every store here was owned by a local
- 16:41Speaker 1: guy and independent, not connected to other stores and.
- 16:46Speaker 2: I remember that Dungeons Brothers store right there at Memorial.
- 16:49Speaker 1: 34th and Sheridan.
- 16:50Speaker 3: Oh, that one.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Okay. There was one at Memorial, too. That was Fred Jones.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Fred Jones. See? And we all, all of them, the
- 16:59Speaker 1: Tulsa Auto Collection happened. Yeah. People who have been around
- 17:02Speaker 1: a long time. Oh, yeah. We're telling stories now, Nathan,
- 17:05Speaker 1: that age us. Oh, come on now. Well, it was 95. Okay, okay, okay. What,
- 17:12Speaker 1: do you remember 95, Alden? No. No. I was not
- 17:15Speaker 1: even alive. He wasn't even alive. He wasn't even alive. Okay, well. 95,
- 17:21Speaker 1: I got in the car business a couple years later. Yeah.
- 17:25Speaker 1: The auto collection came in and consolidated the Tulsa market.
- 17:29Speaker 1: And I think there were three or four markets where
- 17:34Speaker 1: Ford did that, where we went to selling what they
- 17:38Speaker 1: call one price, where there was no negotiation and the
- 17:42Speaker 1: brand kind of evolved. It didn't last very long. In
- 17:46Speaker 1: some ways, it was not a great well executed but
- 17:52Speaker 1: I did learn a lot working there and you know
- 17:55Speaker 1: in some ways the one price at Harkin style we
- 17:57Speaker 1: sell cars at the dealership now where we do market
- 18:00Speaker 1: based price our cars out front we don't we aren't
- 18:04Speaker 1: stuck in saying that's the you know we can't negotiate
- 18:08Speaker 1: but there's not that much room we try to put
- 18:11Speaker 1: them at a great price up front so that you
- 18:14Speaker 1: don't have to come in and start high and We're
- 18:16Speaker 1: back and forth a bunch of times. We call it
- 18:21Speaker 1: simple price. Because every deal is a little different. We
- 18:26Speaker 1: want to be fair to everybody. Of course. That was
- 18:29Speaker 1: one of the principles of one price. You got the
- 18:32Speaker 1: same price that Holden got and that your mother got
- 18:36Speaker 1: and that your neighbor or your daughter got. And that's fair.
- 18:40Speaker 1: It's how you buy milk. We don't go in and say, hey,
- 18:43Speaker 1: I'll give you... $ 2 for that guy. Now, see, Holden,
- 18:47Speaker 1: don't you wish you were alive in 1995 for that? Anyway,
- 18:52Speaker 1: it didn't last very long. In 2000, they wanted me
- 18:55Speaker 1: to move to Rochester, New York, and that was not unlikely.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Highly unlikely.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Well, we're glad that you stuck around here. Yeah, we're
- 19:04Speaker 2: glad you stuck around here. We talk about the supply
- 19:09Speaker 2: of Toyota vehicles. I mean, you can find it, forum.com.
- 19:13Speaker 2: May not just be right there. It takes a couple
- 19:15Speaker 2: of days.
- 19:16Speaker 1: But it doesn't take that long. The truth is because
- 19:18Speaker 1: we get two allocations a month, there's always a bunch coming.
- 19:22Speaker 1: And when the first are given to us, we can
- 19:26Speaker 1: make certain changes in them. We can change the color,
- 19:29Speaker 1: a lot of the options, and all that. And then
- 19:34Speaker 1: even after they get serialized, they get a VIN. Then
- 19:39Speaker 1: we can still do some minor changes or we can
- 19:42Speaker 1: switch them while they're still in production. And then we
- 19:47Speaker 1: can do dealer trades. And if there's something that's just
- 19:52Speaker 1: not out there, we can do what they call a
- 19:54Speaker 1: special order vehicle request and often get those kind of
- 19:58Speaker 1: really rare vehicles, or they're maybe not typically sold in
- 20:02Speaker 1: our region. I can go get those for somebody. That's
- 20:07Speaker 1: what it's all about. Well, and what's unique is we
- 20:11Speaker 1: take the time really to explain that to our customers.
- 20:14Speaker 1: A lot of the bigger places, I think, don't really
- 20:17Speaker 1: want to take that time. And, you know, we train
- 20:21Speaker 1: our sales team on how this works, how to help
- 20:25Speaker 1: people navigate that and get the car they want rather
- 20:28Speaker 1: than just trying to sell them something we have on
- 20:30Speaker 1: the lot. And And, you know, of course, we'd love
- 20:34Speaker 1: to sell something that we have on the lot. Of course.
- 20:36Speaker 1: But that's not our highest priority. Our highest priority is
- 20:39Speaker 1: taking care of you as a customer. How's it going
- 20:41Speaker 1: on the used car side of things? Well, it's been incredible.
- 20:45Speaker 1: We've had all kinds of just keeping enough cars in
- 20:50Speaker 1: that environment is really tough. That's a nationwide issue, demand
- 20:54Speaker 1: for used cars with inflation as it is and the economy.
- 21:01Speaker 1: It's not weak, certainly, but the prices are high and
- 21:05Speaker 1: interest rates are high. So affordability on automobiles is tough.
- 21:11Speaker 1: New cars are more expensive than they were a few
- 21:14Speaker 1: years ago. And with interest rates, that payment is out
- 21:18Speaker 1: of reach for some folks, so they're looking at used cars.
- 21:21Speaker 1: And we have been trying to keep a stock of
- 21:25Speaker 1: Toyota-certified vehicles. Okay. I say trying because they are selling
- 21:30Speaker 1: really fast. At the beginning of the week, we had,
- 21:33Speaker 1: I think, four, which isn't a lot, but four. We
- 21:36Speaker 1: have one left now. We're trying to go get some more.
- 21:40Speaker 1: If you have a car you're wanting to either sell, trade,
- 21:45Speaker 1: extra car, whatever, give us a shot. We'll give you
- 21:49Speaker 1: a no-pressure valuation on the vehicle, advise you on what
- 21:53Speaker 1: it's worth. We can We use Kelly Blue Book Instant
- 21:58Speaker 1: Cash Offer and have lots of other resources to help
- 22:02Speaker 1: you market the car. We can even take it and
- 22:07Speaker 1: put it on nationwide auction platforms where thousands of dealers
- 22:12Speaker 1: have a chance to bid on it. You have three
- 22:15Speaker 1: days to decide if that's the right price. A lot
- 22:18Speaker 1: of times, That's for some stuff that we don't want
- 22:22Speaker 1: or need, but that's another way to sell and find
- 22:26Speaker 1: the market for your car if you have that. Boy,
- 22:29Speaker 1: if we could just go back to 1995 prices, I
- 22:31Speaker 1: would be happy. Yeah, I don't think that's happening right now. No,
- 22:37Speaker 1: darn it. You know, with this, there are parallels between
- 22:42Speaker 1: what we're talking about and what you guys do, Holden, too. How.
- 22:48Speaker 1: We didn't start selling cars this way necessarily. And we
- 22:51Speaker 1: started as a small family business, talking to our friends
- 22:55Speaker 1: and neighbors and selling them cars. And it's evolved. We've
- 22:58Speaker 1: learned through trial and error and new technology and, and, uh,
- 23:03Speaker 1: being resilient and learn, you know, a lot of that, uh,
- 23:07Speaker 1: that stuff you learned about process through your experience with
- 23:11Speaker 1: sports is what we, we apply every day at the dealership.
- 23:15Speaker 1: And it is, uh, That's one of those things that
- 23:20Speaker 1: it was great to hear that that's your focus and
- 23:23Speaker 1: passion in softball as well. What is it about softball
- 23:28Speaker 1: that you like so much?
- 23:31Speaker 4: Well, so I coached softball and baseball last year. Obviously,
- 23:35Speaker 4: growing up, my background was in baseball. I will say,
- 23:40Speaker 4: as I started to be exposed to softball more, it's
- 23:42Speaker 4: a lot faster than baseball. And I think that's why
- 23:46Speaker 4: you start to see softball growing at the collegiate level
- 23:48Speaker 4: as well, and it's really exploded within the last few
- 23:51Speaker 4: years of how popular it's been.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Well, women's sports overall have, really. Yes, absolutely.
- 23:57Speaker 4: But just because it is so fast-paced, it is so engaging.
- 24:02Speaker 4: And so that's been, for a couple years now, this
- 24:05Speaker 4: has kind of been something that I've been looking for
- 24:07Speaker 4: an opportunity to get into.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Awesome.
- 24:09Speaker 3: And so this job was a great opportunity to do that.
- 24:13Speaker 1: Well, good luck in Bartlesville. And once again, welcome to
- 24:17Speaker 1: our great community. If there's any or anything we can
- 24:19Speaker 1: do to help the team or yourself in the process here,
- 24:23Speaker 1: let us know. I'd be happy to help in any way.
- 24:27Speaker 1: And good luck the rest of the season. Again, folks
- 24:29Speaker 1: that are listening, another game tonight at the softball field.
- 24:35Speaker 1: And you can get information on that on the Facebook
- 24:38Speaker 1: or Instagram pages. And Search for Bruins softball and don't
- 24:45Speaker 1: click on UCLA. We're not there yet.
- 24:48Speaker 2: May I add, may I add that, you know, Bartlesville
- 24:51Speaker 2: has got one of the best softball facilities in the state.
- 24:56Speaker 1: So hopefully you like that facility. Is that a little
- 24:59Speaker 1: different than Wyandotte?
- 25:00Speaker 3: It has been.
- 25:01Speaker 4: Facilities were good there too, but yes, that has been
- 25:04Speaker 4: a massive resource to be able to develop players and
- 25:08Speaker 4: do the things we want to do.
- 25:09Speaker 1: So yes. once again, good luck to you and your team. And, uh,
- 25:13Speaker 1: for those of you, uh, in the market for a car,
- 25:16Speaker 1: come see us at the dealership or sales service, uh,
- 25:19Speaker 1: body shop, anything you need. We're pretty much there for
- 25:23Speaker 1: all your automotive needs and, uh, and come see us
- 25:27Speaker 1: at dungeons, toyota.com or, or you can call us 9
- 25:29Speaker 1: 1 8 3 3 3 0 900 or 1911 Southeast
- 25:29Speaker 1: Washington Boulevard. And, uh, I'll be back out there in
- 25:38Speaker 1: a few minutes.
- 25:39Speaker 2: All right, Brad and Coach Holden Yoder of Bartlesville Softball,
- 25:43Speaker 2: thank you both for coming in.
- 25:44Speaker 1: You're watching Car Talk on K1. Thanks for listening to
- 25:51Speaker 1: The Professional, a paid presentation of 1400 K1.
