- 0:06Speaker 1: Hello is the American Nightmare Cody Rhodes. Welcome to what
- 0:08Speaker 1: do you want to talk about? A Fanatics and WWE
- 0:12Speaker 1: original production today. My guest is a Hall of Famer.
- 0:17Speaker 1: It's the Phenom, it's the dead Man, it's the Judge,
- 0:22Speaker 1: It's one of wrestling's Mount Rushmore. He also has a
- 0:26Speaker 1: podcast on this Wonderful Fanatics Channel. Ladies and gentlemen, please
- 0:30Speaker 1: welcome Everything Champion, Multi Time Everything Champion, The Undertaker.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Ah that I appreciate the introduction. I don't know if
- 0:43Speaker 2: I'm gonna live up.
- 0:43Speaker 1: To all that, but we we should tell him too.
- 0:46Speaker 1: This is technically unless we just have nothing. This is
- 0:50Speaker 1: technically supposed to be part one.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Yeah. Right, we're going to do a home and home.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Yeah offsite home and home.
- 0:56Speaker 1: But yeah, and then I'll be coming to your your pod.
- 0:59Speaker 1: How are you enjoying hosting a podcast?
- 1:01Speaker 2: It sucks? Could you try again? He said? Oh my gosh,
- 1:06Speaker 2: it's that you, he said, he said, how do you
- 1:10Speaker 2: like doing a podcast?
- 1:11Speaker 1: Uh?
- 1:12Speaker 2: That's off. I don't know why that.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Oh big pop for I didn't get that. Uh, who's
- 1:17Speaker 1: alexas rocking?
- 1:20Speaker 2: Throwing a chair?
- 1:21Speaker 1: I will say it almost feels mystical in a sense
- 1:24Speaker 1: that I asked you a question and then a voice.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Just just started shaking from my pocket.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Part of the lore and the mythos as as I
- 1:31Speaker 1: was asking, do you enjoy doing the podcast?
- 1:35Speaker 3: Uh?
- 1:36Speaker 2: It has its moments? Yeah, yeah, it really does. You know,
- 1:39Speaker 2: when you when you enter discussion or you're in a
- 1:42Speaker 2: conversation and you you're hitting it off, and you know,
- 1:45Speaker 2: that's always fun. But man, sometimes when you when you
- 1:48Speaker 2: get that guest that doesn't want to talk or is
- 1:51Speaker 2: not a storyteller. Right, I don't want to name names,
- 1:56Speaker 2: but uh, you know, it can be like pulling a
- 1:59Speaker 2: tooth and so uh yeah, when you know when this
- 2:05Speaker 2: was you know, brought to me like we can do
- 2:07Speaker 2: home and home. Yeah, because I always you're a great storyteller.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Thank you. Yeah, I know, really I enjoy it. Like
- 2:15Speaker 2: I don't follow you know, I don't follow much other
- 2:19Speaker 2: podcast or listening, but I always kind of catch you
- 2:22Speaker 2: because you you're you're very detail oriented in your stories
- 2:26Speaker 2: and that's such a key part of bringing somebody into
- 2:30Speaker 2: what you do. Sure, so uh and you've mastered that.
- 2:33Speaker 1: And it's you got to take him on the ride.
- 2:36Speaker 2: You got to take him on the ride. You got
- 2:37Speaker 2: to put him in. Yeah, you got to put them
- 2:38Speaker 2: in the in the scenario.
- 2:40Speaker 1: So yeah, there's I'm sure you saw it. And if
- 2:44Speaker 1: I asked anyone else who is coming on this podcast,
- 2:46Speaker 1: I actually am doubtful they would. You've seen the man
- 2:49Speaker 1: who shotelebrity balance, right, what is the is it the
- 2:52Speaker 1: Jimmy Stewart quote when the fact becomes legend? Print the
- 2:56Speaker 1: legend exactly? So my my whole thought. I've been late
- 3:00Speaker 1: by some of my peers as what comes up as
- 3:03Speaker 1: a cody lie, an exaggeration, a bit of a hyperbole.
- 3:07Speaker 1: To me, it's just the legend, right, I don't need
- 3:10Speaker 1: you know, like, let's give them the sexiest version of
- 3:12Speaker 1: the story exactly. Which is fun. You mentioned hitting it
- 3:16Speaker 1: off with people. We tend to have something that helps
- 3:21Speaker 1: in a sense of this podcast is Wheatly American Vodka.
- 3:24Speaker 1: I have the Wheatly American mule. I know you have
- 3:26Speaker 1: something special.
- 3:27Speaker 2: What do you have? This is the dead Man's draft? Wow? Yeah?
- 3:32Speaker 1: All right, well, yeah, absolutely, thank you so much. Part one.
- 3:38Speaker 1: In the spirit of that toast, I have a question
- 3:41Speaker 1: that I don't think you would think that I would
- 3:44Speaker 1: ask you, but I have to know, because I've gotten
- 3:46Speaker 1: an answer from Sina and I've talked to others about it.
- 3:50Speaker 1: But why on earth? Why on earth the tradition of
- 3:54Speaker 1: gargling whiskey? And where did this come from? And to
- 3:58Speaker 1: set this up?
- 3:59Speaker 2: To set the up.
- 4:01Speaker 1: If you got called to the bar, this is when
- 4:05Speaker 1: I first came on board two thousand and eight, twenty
- 4:07Speaker 1: nine and ten, whatever it may be. And you got
- 4:09Speaker 1: the call, hey, taker would like to see you. You
- 4:12Speaker 1: you got up and you went to the bar, and
- 4:15Speaker 1: there there would be a thing of whiskey and just
- 4:18Speaker 1: a shot glass, and you would be you know, hey,
- 4:22Speaker 1: this is part of your kind of indoctrination into the
- 4:24Speaker 1: crew and into the into the team. But you would
- 4:27Speaker 1: have to gargle it, which again I do it, and
- 4:33Speaker 1: it's now I am expecting it of others. But what
- 4:36Speaker 1: are the origins of gargling whiskey?
- 4:39Speaker 2: So you may be a little disappointed in all this, okay,
- 4:43Speaker 2: And I'm not one. I'm not one to make someone gargle.
- 4:48Speaker 2: That's not that's my deal. I take the shot, I
- 4:50Speaker 2: drink the shot.
- 4:51Speaker 1: In fairness, you didn't make anything happen.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Well, right, no, you're you're invited over it's kind of
- 4:56Speaker 2: it is it is. It is a welcome, but you
- 4:58Speaker 2: know that's a that's a big misnomer, like, oh, you know,
- 5:01Speaker 2: oh Man Tayler told me come over and drink. I
- 5:03Speaker 2: had to drink. No, it's not that. I don't ever
- 5:05Speaker 2: make anybody, make anybody do anything they didn't want to do,
- 5:09Speaker 2: but it is it was kind of a hey, kid,
- 5:12Speaker 2: come on in here. You know, you're proving yourself, and
- 5:16Speaker 2: if you want to drink with us, that's fine. If
- 5:18Speaker 2: you don't, you know, you don't have to. The gargling happened.
- 5:22Speaker 2: So we go back to when business wasn't quite so good. Okay,
- 5:26Speaker 2: all right, and I've been on both ends of the spectrum,
- 5:32Speaker 2: and so for me, gargling happened because the guys on
- 5:38Speaker 2: top when you go to the bar, those guys were
- 5:42Speaker 2: making a little bit more money than everybody else, was right,
- 5:45Speaker 2: and there was a struggle. So uh, a lot of
- 5:50Speaker 2: times like you want to be part of it, but
- 5:53Speaker 2: you don't want to. You don't want to drink all
- 5:55Speaker 2: that whiskey because whiskey, you know, it's tough, right, So
- 5:59Speaker 2: what would end up happening. There's a lot of people
- 6:01Speaker 2: would they would quick shot, or they'd throw it, you know,
- 6:05Speaker 2: pour it on the floor and then act like they're drinking, right,
- 6:08Speaker 2: and you know that's that's money. Yes, that's people's money.
- 6:12Speaker 2: You you had to choose whether or not like all right,
- 6:16Speaker 2: I'm gonna go to the bar and have drinks tonight, yeah,
- 6:18Speaker 2: knowing that it's going to affect your everyday life really yeah. Right,
- 6:23Speaker 2: So there was a lot of people that were like
- 6:26Speaker 2: tossing shots and they got busted for it. So then
- 6:30Speaker 2: it kind of became a deal where all right, you
- 6:34Speaker 2: got to gargle so that you know that you you've
- 6:37Speaker 2: had this shot. Yeah, that was the original origins of it. Sure,
- 6:40Speaker 2: and then I think it just carried on through the years,
- 6:43Speaker 2: is like you know, so then it kind of became
- 6:45Speaker 2: a Machiesmo thing too, where you know, so I was
- 6:51Speaker 2: never I never gargled and I never made anybody gargle
- 6:54Speaker 2: or you know, it's like here, if you want this shot,
- 6:57Speaker 2: have the shot.
- 6:58Speaker 1: When I when I went down, Because you brought up
- 7:00Speaker 1: that you never you know, made anyone drink or anything
- 7:02Speaker 1: like that, and I can double down on the fact
- 7:05Speaker 1: that it was actually you didn't do anything. You were
- 7:08Speaker 1: there sitting next to it. It was everyone else, Oh yeah,
- 7:11Speaker 1: who's all right, this is how you do it. You
- 7:13Speaker 1: go up there, You're going to take the shot, and
- 7:15Speaker 1: then you know, maybe have a conversation.
- 7:18Speaker 2: It was almost like.
- 7:18Speaker 1: You're meeting a foreign dignitary, you're going to go up there.
- 7:21Speaker 1: But then also it was like, once you did it,
- 7:23Speaker 1: you go float around, you hang out. Yeah, see what's
- 7:25Speaker 1: going on. It was always much more fun not to
- 7:28Speaker 1: bury this person. But it was always much more fun
- 7:31Speaker 1: when you got the call from you or you got
- 7:33Speaker 1: to have that moment with you, especially during that time
- 7:35Speaker 1: in my career versus when it was over, because when
- 7:38Speaker 1: it was over, God bless it, you'd be over with
- 7:40Speaker 1: Kyota and Kyota the same level of energy, like let's
- 7:44Speaker 1: get more to drink. But also it starts to get
- 7:47Speaker 1: a little dangerous. You know, you're not necessarily learning about
- 7:49Speaker 1: wrestling anymore. As more you're just figuring out how to
- 7:52Speaker 1: get out of the Bible. Yeah, And I thought because
- 7:55Speaker 1: I went to South Africa the first tour I did
- 7:58Speaker 1: with the company, and I didn't do anything right. Sleep
- 8:00Speaker 1: on the plane, I didn't know what to do. On
- 8:02Speaker 1: the way over, we did the show and I went
- 8:05Speaker 1: down to the bar because I just thought that was okay,
- 8:07Speaker 1: everybody will be down there, right, so I'll go to
- 8:10Speaker 1: the bar. Went to the bar and it was actually
- 8:12Speaker 1: just like this, but it was sand Man, and I
- 8:15Speaker 1: always had a good relationship with sand Man, very nice
- 8:18Speaker 1: man to me. But I asked him. I go, oh, well,
- 8:21Speaker 1: I should ask him what he wants, right, I should
- 8:23Speaker 1: get him a drink. That's the exchange here. I asked
- 8:26Speaker 1: him what he wants, and I'll never free ages. Ah,
- 8:29Speaker 1: I'll get four vodkas? Cool, all right because four? Yeah,
- 8:34Speaker 1: I'm so's I'm gonna get you the four, but I'm
- 8:37Speaker 1: obviously not gonna get four for myself. So and I
- 8:40Speaker 1: got four vodkas and I'm already thinking like, well, I'm
- 8:42Speaker 1: not getting myself one because this is a ridiculous request.
- 8:45Speaker 1: He slammed one, and where the WW title is positioned
- 8:48Speaker 1: was a big hearth and he threw it at about
- 8:51Speaker 1: ninety miles per hour, like Randy Johnson level fastball, and
- 8:55Speaker 1: the fire and everything like a little extra spark, and
- 8:57Speaker 1: I just walked away. Yes, I thought that that wasn't
- 9:01Speaker 1: the right because, oh man, I feel like you've experienced
- 9:06Speaker 1: this so much. There's like legends, dignitaries, luminaries, and then
- 9:14Speaker 1: sometimes there's just kind of like old timers, and you know,
- 9:18Speaker 1: I try to offer everyone the same level of grace,
- 9:20Speaker 1: but it was a different type of education.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, you did the right thing. Okay, yeah moving
- 9:25Speaker 2: away from that, especially what this is what two thousand
- 9:29Speaker 2: and eight. Yeah, yeah, things were way way different too there.
- 9:33Speaker 2: So yeah, that was the best decision you could have made.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Was definitely like walking away. I have, like, I love
- 9:40Speaker 2: to have a good time. I mean, through my years,
- 9:43Speaker 2: I had my good times, but I didn't ever I
- 9:47Speaker 2: just when people start getting belligerent, and especially if they're
- 9:50Speaker 2: in the group that I'm around, man, it really didn't
- 9:54Speaker 2: bode well for them. And you have to be able
- 9:56Speaker 2: to handle your You have to be able to handle
- 9:58Speaker 2: your liquor and s, you know, conduct yourself in a manner. Right.
- 10:02Speaker 2: So because you screw and one person screws up, you've
- 10:06Speaker 2: all screwed up now, right. Yeah, So yeah it was
- 10:10Speaker 2: I liked having a good time, but man, you had
- 10:12Speaker 2: to be able to keep it together.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Yeah, you keep your circle together. You know, some people,
- 10:16Speaker 1: some of my favorites, they never left catering. It was
- 10:18Speaker 1: always just we're gonna sit right here, We're gonna have
- 10:20Speaker 1: our moment. It's gonna be a private thing. We're just
- 10:24Speaker 1: right here. And I always looked at it, because I
- 10:26Speaker 1: do know there's this weird discussion about people being made
- 10:29Speaker 1: to drink and things of that nature. I always looked
- 10:31Speaker 1: at it as just an opportunity. You don't spend as
- 10:34Speaker 1: much time with these people, particularly you're in the locker
- 10:37Speaker 1: rooms with them or in my case, coming up where
- 10:40Speaker 1: you're nervous and you're thinking about what you're gonna be doing.
- 10:42Speaker 1: You're calling a match and you're not sure am I
- 10:44Speaker 1: supposed to be calling to this? M Are we going
- 10:45Speaker 1: over spots? Are we doing one of those where we
- 10:47Speaker 1: don't all these things? And I liked it as a
- 10:50Speaker 1: moment where you actually got to know each other, especially
- 10:52Speaker 1: when you were locked up with each other, for you
- 10:54Speaker 1: were on far longer tours than I was. But when
- 10:57Speaker 1: I first came here, we still did the seventeen day
- 11:00Speaker 1: or that's your family for a little period of time.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Yeah. So yeah, during the gist of my run, like
- 11:07Speaker 2: I was on the road with those guys more than
- 11:08Speaker 2: I was home. Yeah, And you know, so you you one,
- 11:13Speaker 2: you have to have a set of guys that one
- 11:15Speaker 2: you can hang with when it don't get on your
- 11:17Speaker 2: nerves because a seventeen day loop in Europe and you're
- 11:21Speaker 2: in a different city most times, different countries every day.
- 11:25Speaker 2: It doesn't take much, it doesn't take much put you
- 11:28Speaker 2: on edge. But you know, so you needed you needed
- 11:32Speaker 2: to have that camaraderie. And but man, we had we
- 11:36Speaker 2: had a few in the group that we get a
- 11:39Speaker 2: little loose sometimes. Yeah, we'd have to have a little
- 11:41Speaker 2: bit of come to Jesus, like, hey, we're gonna have
- 11:44Speaker 2: a good time. But uh yeah, yeah, we got to
- 11:46Speaker 2: cut the bullshit out because you can't come anymore. Yeah, yeah, Hey,
- 11:50Speaker 2: there's been more than one that guy that's got grounded right.
- 11:53Speaker 2: It's it's like, hey, no, no, no, you can't, you
- 11:56Speaker 2: can't do that.
- 11:57Speaker 1: You're talking about the tours. I wanted to ask you.
- 12:00Speaker 1: There's a specific question about it tour I was going
- 12:02Speaker 1: to bring up, but in general, for you, throughout all
- 12:05Speaker 1: the times you've been overseas, did you have a favorite
- 12:07Speaker 1: place overseas to wrestle?
- 12:11Speaker 2: I loved I loved Australia. I just I love going
- 12:15Speaker 2: over there. I love the people over there. And again
- 12:20Speaker 2: I remember I think this was the last time that
- 12:22Speaker 2: I was that I was champion and I was doing
- 12:25Speaker 2: both shows, and so we had done I think we
- 12:30Speaker 2: did San Diego Monday, then we did Tuesday. We did
- 12:33Speaker 2: smack Down on Tuesdays, then LA, so we did LA
- 12:38Speaker 2: was Monday Tuesday with San Diego. Then we had to
- 12:41Speaker 2: drive back after the show back to LA to catch
- 12:43Speaker 2: a flight to fly to Australia to do three four
- 12:47Speaker 2: live events and then make it back to California to
- 12:50Speaker 2: do Monday night ROGEA.
- 12:51Speaker 1: It was a brutal It was brutal sounds it, Yeah,
- 12:54Speaker 1: And so you know we do that.
- 12:55Speaker 2: We fly, we fly all night. We get to Australia.
- 12:58Speaker 2: Now this is what to mid two thousand, maybe around
- 13:03Speaker 2: two thousand and eight, two thousand and nine, somewhere in
- 13:05Speaker 2: there somebody, I'm sure we'll fact check that and let
- 13:08Speaker 2: me know your dates. Your dates are off. But the
- 13:12Speaker 2: actual tour did happen. And we get to uh, we
- 13:16Speaker 2: get to Australia. I think it was Sydney and it
- 13:20Speaker 2: is like it is packed. Yeah, it's it's a million
- 13:23Speaker 2: dollar house then, which is I mean, I know you
- 13:26Speaker 2: guys are like, yeah, y'all, y'all fall asleep on a
- 13:29Speaker 2: million dollar house now, but back then, yeah, back then
- 13:33Speaker 2: it was big, right of course, Yeah, this is yeah,
- 13:36Speaker 2: this is live event, and there's over a million dollar
- 13:39Speaker 2: house in there. And I'm watching this, sitting there, watching
- 13:43Speaker 2: the matches, man, and it's just like match after match,
- 13:45Speaker 2: everybody's tired. You can you know what that? I mean
- 13:48Speaker 2: that that just I'm jet lagged. I'm tired. I've worked
- 13:51Speaker 2: two days and I got on a plane and I
- 13:56Speaker 2: would say eighty percent of the matches we're just dog
- 14:01Speaker 2: shit sure. And I'm just sitting there and match after
- 14:06Speaker 2: match I watch, I'm getting madder, and I'm getting madder,
- 14:09Speaker 2: and I'm getting madder because everybody's kind of feeling sorry
- 14:11Speaker 2: for themselves and not taking him in the account the
- 14:14Speaker 2: appreciation to have that house. And so I get back.
- 14:19Speaker 2: I was I was on last and fit Finley was
- 14:22Speaker 2: the He was a producer of the Agent. I said,
- 14:25Speaker 2: Fit you mind, if I speak you God, will you
- 14:28Speaker 2: know overstep his you know, his his role or anything?
- 14:31Speaker 2: He goes, no, No, go ahead, Mark. He knew exactly
- 14:33Speaker 2: what I was going to say, and I ended up
- 14:35Speaker 2: cutting a promo on on our on our crew, like
- 14:43Speaker 2: most of them, had never experienced the arenas so empty
- 14:48Speaker 2: that you could take a handful of rocks sure and
- 14:51Speaker 2: not hit anybody, right, I mean, which is you know
- 14:54Speaker 2: we had we had battled our way through all that,
- 14:56Speaker 2: and now you have this kind of you have this
- 15:00Speaker 2: kind of house for a non televised thing, and you're
- 15:03Speaker 2: just gonna dog it and call it in. Now. The atmosphere,
- 15:08Speaker 2: the tempo, the energy was much better the next night
- 15:12Speaker 2: in New Zealand. Yeah, but yeah, I know we were
- 15:15Speaker 2: talking about where I like to work. But yeah, Australia
- 15:18Speaker 2: was always seems like they've just kind of been just
- 15:22Speaker 2: an incredible energetic crowd. And then you know the UK
- 15:27Speaker 2: and Germany, I mean all those towns because they only
- 15:29Speaker 2: got us once or twice a year, they always seem
- 15:32Speaker 2: you know, those towns were just they had so much energy,
- 15:34Speaker 2: so much fun.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Yeah, you mentioned the million dollar house. How the fact
- 15:39Speaker 1: that people weren't appreciating it. Here's some really inside baseball.
- 15:43Speaker 1: I keep this in please, but it's quite funny. Is
- 15:47Speaker 1: now lately they've been putting largest gate in history and
- 15:52Speaker 1: it's on the sheet that I have access to. Is
- 15:56Speaker 1: if they don't write that though, no matter if it
- 15:58Speaker 1: was an amazing house. No matter the numbers is amazing.
- 16:01Speaker 1: John Davis is kind of like, what happened?
- 16:04Speaker 2: Bro? What do you mean?
- 16:06Speaker 1: It's still a great Like what are we talking about?
- 16:08Speaker 2: You know?
- 16:08Speaker 1: Yeah, but that was that little line just largest in
- 16:12Speaker 1: company history is a thing. It's very exciting when you

- 17:26Speaker 1: want to ask you about your favorite place because we
- 17:29Speaker 1: wrestled on. I don't know if you remember, because you've
- 17:32Speaker 1: been over and done this so many times. Do you
- 17:33Speaker 1: remember the Honeymonster Tourney Monster Tour, Yeah, so that might
- 17:39Speaker 1: not be the best way to describe. It was an
- 17:42Speaker 1: overseas tour in the UK where you and Triple H
- 17:46Speaker 1: wrestled against Me, Randy and Teddybos. Last night. There was
- 17:50Speaker 1: a serial sponsor called the Honeymonster and it was just
- 17:54Speaker 1: like a wompa looking kind of like a like a mascot.
- 17:59Speaker 1: He got all kinds of heat with the boys because
- 18:01Speaker 1: he was on the massage table noneym where I lived there.
- 18:07Speaker 1: He was starting to like register with everybody. Would think,
- 18:09Speaker 1: you know, you would think you wouldn't see him that often,
- 18:11Speaker 1: but we were seeing him everywhere. He's sitting at the monitor. Yeah,
- 18:14Speaker 1: he's eating like the honey Monster became part of this tour.
- 18:18Speaker 1: But this is a famous and it's gone. As the
- 18:21Speaker 1: kids say, it's a viral clip. You probably know where
- 18:23Speaker 1: I'm going. Yeah, but there's this clip of what you
- 18:26Speaker 1: did every night. But that's the one time somebody captured it.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Where when it was time for the hot tag, and
- 18:33Speaker 1: this was a huge lesson and cutting the ring in
- 18:36Speaker 1: half and just working an entire match based on working
- 18:39Speaker 1: towards that tag, working towards that tag right before it
- 18:43Speaker 1: was time. Whenever we are, in your case triple H
- 18:47Speaker 1: and you deemed it was right when the crowd was ready,
- 18:50Speaker 1: you would start moving up and down the ringside area
- 18:56Speaker 1: at an unbelievable speed, just a crazy going. And your
- 19:00Speaker 1: hair at that point had dried out a little bit
- 19:03Speaker 1: because you had just been hanging on the apron and
- 19:05Speaker 1: work in the apron, but you had been there, and
- 19:07Speaker 1: you would call for a water bottle and you'd catch
- 19:11Speaker 1: it and I don't think you ever missed in the
- 19:14Speaker 1: eleven days. I saw it and you'd pour it all
- 19:16Speaker 1: over your head and the place would lose their mind.
- 19:18Speaker 1: They were part of it with you, and then you'd
- 19:20Speaker 1: come in there and you'd beat us all half to death.
- 19:23Speaker 1: But where is the origin of this amazing moment? Like
- 19:27Speaker 1: where did you figure out doing this? Because it was
- 19:29Speaker 1: one of my favorite things each night, and also we
- 19:32Speaker 1: didn't always go at the same time. It was really
- 19:34Speaker 1: off based off what you and h thought, all right,
- 19:37Speaker 1: it's time. And when I saw that it was, we
- 19:40Speaker 1: were chomping at the bit to be the ones to
- 19:42Speaker 1: come in and feed. But yeah, I was curious where
- 19:44Speaker 1: it came from.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Totally. All it was was a total, total teachable moment. Okay,
- 19:51Speaker 2: that was all it was for me. Yeah, I never
- 19:54Speaker 2: worked that way anywhere else, Like, it didn't for it
- 19:58Speaker 2: didn't work for my character to work like that. So
- 20:02Speaker 2: and back then, you don't You're not thinking that someone
- 20:06Speaker 2: is in my head. I'm not thinking okay, we're in
- 20:08Speaker 2: Austria or wherever that was at. I'm not thinking of
- 20:11Speaker 2: someone recording it. So I'm thinking that I'm getting away
- 20:15Speaker 2: with being able to teach this moment and what I'm teaching.
- 20:21Speaker 2: You know, I can sit here and talk with someone
- 20:23Speaker 2: and I can I can talk psychology and why I
- 20:27Speaker 2: do this and why I do that. And as I
- 20:29Speaker 2: talk to you about it. You're listening and you're visualizing
- 20:33Speaker 2: in your head what I'm what I'm talking about, right,
- 20:38Speaker 2: and then you get out in the match and you
- 20:40Speaker 2: do absolutely nothing the way that I was describing it
- 20:45Speaker 2: to me. You know, for my vision, your vision was
- 20:47Speaker 2: something completely different. So I've got two guys. I've got Randy,
- 20:51Speaker 2: who's who's established guy, but then you intend a young
- 20:55Speaker 2: guys coming up. So that's the best way for me
- 20:58Speaker 2: to teach. Will let you experience what that hot tag
- 21:02Speaker 2: should be like. Oh man, yeah, that's all that. That's
- 21:06Speaker 2: all that was was just a teaching moment because I
- 21:08Speaker 2: didn't get those very often. Yeah. Right, we got to
- 21:11Speaker 2: do some creative things in the live events over there
- 21:13Speaker 2: with tags and you know six three on two's and
- 21:17Speaker 2: all that. Those are those are all teachable moments. I mean,
- 21:23Speaker 2: I don't know if you remember the Hyena effect. I
- 21:26Speaker 2: don't know if we talked about that is is throwing
- 21:30Speaker 2: somebody out, throwing somebody out of the ring, and then
- 21:34Speaker 2: the other guy taking the referee and then the other
- 21:37Speaker 2: guy jumping on him and then you know, as as
- 21:39Speaker 2: the as the baby face on the heel on the
- 21:43Speaker 2: you know, on the apron comes down to make the save.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Then you throw that guy back in, so now you're
- 21:48Speaker 2: just you know, those were all things that I was
- 21:51Speaker 2: trying to get to, you know, to lay on you
- 21:55Speaker 2: and lay on even Randy. But but it was all
- 21:57Speaker 2: that was all it was, was just me trying to
- 22:00Speaker 2: to teach.
- 22:01Speaker 1: That makes the moment so much different for me thinking
- 22:05Speaker 1: about it that way, because I had thought I was
- 22:07Speaker 1: I knew you didn't do that on TV. It was
- 22:09Speaker 1: not the Undertaker we'd see on TV. But I also
- 22:12Speaker 1: thought it's kind of his way of having an intimate
- 22:14Speaker 1: moment with this crowd, which it was. But also, I'm
- 22:18Speaker 1: sure you've been around so many people who talk psychology
- 22:22Speaker 1: and it sounds great and it's it's home. Yeah he's
- 22:25Speaker 1: got it, and they talk about the structure of an angle,
- 22:27Speaker 1: they talk about building a match, but then in the ring, yeah,
- 22:31Speaker 1: it's not there at all. Which that's just I'm honored
- 22:34Speaker 1: that that got to be the thing we did. Did
- 22:37Speaker 1: I ever tell you what happened when I tried? Because
- 22:39Speaker 1: there was another spot you did that. I always thought
- 22:41Speaker 1: this was so clever, and again for being so big
- 22:45Speaker 1: and you being able to do it, but you'd pop
- 22:48Speaker 1: a chair up to make the noise so that everyone knew, hey, weapon,
- 22:53Speaker 1: and then you'd come after the bad guys if we
- 22:56Speaker 1: were doing hyena stuff on the floor. Actually, so, I
- 23:00Speaker 1: was in Denver and it was a great house in Denver,
- 23:03Speaker 1: and this is right before us with Mania thirty nine.
- 23:05Speaker 1: I forget. It was a six man. It was kind
- 23:07Speaker 1: of a motley crew just put all together. I think
- 23:10Speaker 1: we were actually were the week before Mania, so it
- 23:13Speaker 1: was a safe thing. I suppose, I don't know, but
- 23:17Speaker 1: they were doing it. I go, hey, I'm gonna do
- 23:19Speaker 1: because me and the usso's refer to that as the
- 23:20Speaker 1: taker spot, right, and it's just a thing. We're gonna
- 23:23Speaker 1: do the taker spot, which could mean three things, but
- 23:25Speaker 1: that one. They knew what it was, but I remember
- 23:28Speaker 1: we weren't. Not everyone was hip to it. Not everyone
- 23:31Speaker 1: had run that play before. So they're getting all this
- 23:34Speaker 1: excess heat on the outside and there whatever. Now is
- 23:38Speaker 1: the time, it's right. I hopped down, I popped that
- 23:40Speaker 1: thing up. I got it makes the noise, the crowd reacts.
- 23:43Speaker 1: I slide around, but I kind of only half committed.
- 23:46Speaker 1: I didn't really know because they weren't running the full
- 23:48Speaker 1: way like we used to run something, and the only
- 23:50Speaker 1: person I can put this heat on is either me
- 23:52Speaker 1: putting the chair down, which I don't want, or the
- 23:54Speaker 1: ref has to stop me. So the way they they
- 23:56Speaker 1: went around, I slid in the ring. And when I
- 23:58Speaker 1: slid in the ring, and God blesses a great ref.
- 24:02Speaker 1: But again, wasn't hip to the spot stopped me with
- 24:05Speaker 1: such a force that the chair hit me.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Right in the PA.
- 24:09Speaker 1: So now it's the week before WrestleMania thirty nine. I've
- 24:12Speaker 1: never even been near the main event of a WrestleMania
- 24:16Speaker 1: and this is going to be the first WRESTLEMANI main
- 24:18Speaker 1: event and it's for the title. And I am thinking
- 24:21Speaker 1: the whole rest of that match. I'm not even mad.
- 24:23Speaker 1: I'm thinking the whole rest. If I have to get stitches,
- 24:27Speaker 1: we just I can't. And it wasn't that bad, but
- 24:30Speaker 1: I thought, oh, what a cautionary hell we were trying
- 24:33Speaker 1: to do it. I get away with it. Now I
- 24:35Speaker 1: think I did it in Mexico because you were at
- 24:37Speaker 1: the monitor watching. Yes, it's like he's a I don't
- 24:40Speaker 1: know how entertained he is, but I got to do something.
- 24:42Speaker 2: I recognized it.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, yeah, that's your play.
- 24:44Speaker 2: It's a you know what you guys know are so
- 24:49Speaker 2: so athletic, and you guys can do so many things.
- 24:54Speaker 2: There's just certain things that are so basic like that, Yeah,
- 24:57Speaker 2: that resonate because they don't. I don't think our audience
- 25:01Speaker 2: sees it anymore. And it makes such sense, right, you're
- 25:04Speaker 2: trying to create you're trying to create advantages in the
- 25:06Speaker 2: match right where your heels have got an advantage on
- 25:09Speaker 2: your on your baby faces. So you know, the way
- 25:13Speaker 2: the spot's supposed to run is they're double team and
- 25:16Speaker 2: your guy on the outside, you chase the you know,
- 25:18Speaker 2: you chase them off, you throw the other guy. You know,
- 25:21Speaker 2: it's it's oh, it's the hyaena, like the lion will
- 25:24Speaker 2: come in and chase these two hyaenas off. The other
- 25:27Speaker 2: two hyenas come back in and try to steal the
- 25:29Speaker 2: you know, steal the prey. So yeah, it's it's simple. Yeah,
- 25:34Speaker 2: but it just like people, you know, it resonates with
- 25:38Speaker 2: oh man, he hits them with that chair and then
- 25:40Speaker 2: then they get so excited because now you're out there
- 25:43Speaker 2: chasing this guy with the chair while the other guy's
- 25:45Speaker 2: beating the crap out of the guy you just went.
- 25:46Speaker 2: And it's just it's just fun.
- 25:48Speaker 1: And yeah, it's the difference between the psychology the application.
- 25:53Speaker 1: I remember I used to hear that a lot in
- 25:55Speaker 1: the my first round with w t B. Is great
- 25:58Speaker 1: that someone's telling me this, you have to it. None
- 26:01Speaker 1: of this works unless you're applying. And that's where I
- 26:03Speaker 1: really appreciated. Just the general you mentioned fit fits somebody
- 26:07Speaker 1: that nobody wants to come back and get the you know, no,
- 26:11Speaker 1: tell me something unless it's a you know to Shawn
- 26:15Speaker 1: Michael's moment of no, it was that good. You you
- 26:18Speaker 1: already know that you know, and that's so rare anyways,
- 26:21Speaker 1: But the fact that we had I saw you and
- 26:24Speaker 1: Bailey talking about just the general being at the live events,
- 26:28Speaker 1: and I've said it on this podcast, and I know
- 26:31Speaker 1: it gets me in trouble with my peers, and I
- 26:33Speaker 1: don't care. I miss them so much. I had missed
- 26:37Speaker 1: the live events for the rhythm of wrestling. I feel
- 26:41Speaker 1: like it helped actually prevent injuries. I feel like it
- 26:45Speaker 1: helped a general just not just a camaraderie. But the
- 26:48Speaker 1: other thing is being part of the team. If you're
- 26:51Speaker 1: only here like once or twice a week, it doesn't
- 26:53Speaker 1: feel like you're what team are you on versus No,
- 26:56Speaker 1: this is our crew. We run, we run Saturday, we
- 26:59Speaker 1: run Sunday. And I know it's a different time and
- 27:02Speaker 1: the way the company works, it has its own difficulties
- 27:05Speaker 1: and challenges today that are different. But I miss it,
- 27:07Speaker 1: and I missed it was those things just y I
- 27:10Speaker 1: try this?
- 27:11Speaker 2: Yeah, hey did you hear that?
- 27:12Speaker 1: Literally? Things that you could not put in a lab
- 27:14Speaker 1: and replicate just a general excited fan. Just I miss it.
- 27:19Speaker 1: But that maybe it was a moment in time, you know,
- 27:22Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 27:22Speaker 2: Well, but the live events too, were where do you
- 27:27Speaker 2: where do you? You know? You're setting it home on
- 27:29Speaker 2: your counch and you're watching TV and you think it's like,
- 27:31Speaker 2: oh man, a spot comes into your head. Right, Well,
- 27:36Speaker 2: it's pretty it's pretty delicate. Are that It's pretty intricate?
- 27:40Speaker 2: Like do I want to try that on Monday night
- 27:42Speaker 2: Raw with World watching? Or do I want to try
- 27:44Speaker 2: it in Poughkeepsie, you know at a small That's one
- 27:49Speaker 2: of the things too about the live events. Yeah. One
- 27:52Speaker 2: I think there is like we grinded, maybe we grinded
- 27:55Speaker 2: too hard, right right, But there is a there's a
- 28:00Speaker 2: there's a line, there as a balance, there is a
- 28:02Speaker 2: balance that you need. You need the reps to stay sharp,
- 28:06Speaker 2: and and then you also need a place to try
- 28:09Speaker 2: new stuff because there's nothing you're going to get instant
- 28:13Speaker 2: feedback and a lot of event you're gonna get instantly. Okay,
- 28:16Speaker 2: that either worked, or maybe I need to do this
- 28:19Speaker 2: to make it even better. But it's not something like
- 28:21Speaker 2: I'm gonna pull this out on Monday night raw or
- 28:23Speaker 2: I'm gonna try this at the paper. You need someplace
- 28:25Speaker 2: to to to try these ideas. And I, you know,
- 28:30Speaker 2: I get trying to protect your talent, but I also
- 28:33Speaker 2: agree with you that you know, not working does maybe
- 28:37Speaker 2: lead to you know, because you know, iron sharpens irons.
- 28:42Speaker 2: And again, I don't think we need to grind like
- 28:44Speaker 2: we did, but I don't think you need not to
- 28:47Speaker 2: do live events.
- 28:48Speaker 1: When I left w B and made a list of
- 28:51Speaker 1: all these different independent wrestlers and wrestlers in Japan, all
- 28:54Speaker 1: these different people I wanted to wrestle if I had
- 28:56Speaker 1: heard where the bees need is just the most talented,
- 28:59Speaker 1: amazing and often very talented, very artistic, great people. But
- 29:04Speaker 1: one of the things I discovered just on mom and
- 29:07Speaker 1: pop indies that I was doing is the no rhythm
- 29:10Speaker 1: between each other made it so that you were firing
- 29:14Speaker 1: the livest of browns, right. And I remember I'd be
- 29:16Speaker 1: working with people that had been revered as you know,
- 29:19Speaker 1: you hear, like all five Stars and all, and they
- 29:21Speaker 1: were really athletic and they were really great. But we
- 29:23Speaker 1: never touched before. So we all of the thought that, well,
- 29:27Speaker 1: we don't want it to miss either. But oh my gosh,
- 29:30Speaker 1: I had never I had never walked away with so
- 29:33Speaker 1: many shows, you know, boxer cut here, something above the eye.
- 29:36Speaker 1: I was thinking, what's the issue, And I felt like
- 29:38Speaker 1: that's something when it comes to row or SmackDown again,
- 29:40Speaker 1: not the be labor and my point about the live
- 29:42Speaker 1: events here, but that's a thing as far as just
- 29:44Speaker 1: getting a little chemistry with somebody, because how often do
- 29:47Speaker 1: you have that amazing lightning in a bottle chemistry? It's
- 29:50Speaker 1: not right, it's rare. So to get a good flow
- 29:54Speaker 1: with people is important. I certainly missed them. I want
- 29:57Speaker 1: to go kind of rewind ey a hair because something
- 30:01Speaker 1: that's always intrigued me, particularly watching i'd say this ninety
- 30:06Speaker 1: to ninety five and even into the attitude era, this
- 30:09Speaker 1: run that you had who with you growing up and
- 30:13Speaker 1: watching and being a fan of the business. Who were
- 30:15Speaker 1: you most a fan of? Who was who was your
- 30:18Speaker 1: guy when you were watching wrestling?
- 30:21Speaker 2: You know, you wouldn't believe it from from where I
- 30:24Speaker 2: from where I ended up to as a fan. So
- 30:27Speaker 2: I grew up in Houston, so we had Paul Bosch's
- 30:30Speaker 2: Houston Wrestling right in w A Houston Wrestling. So I
- 30:37Speaker 2: loved Meal Muskers. Oh wow, yeah.
- 30:40Speaker 1: Flying ahead bututt right, yeah yeah, And.
- 30:43Speaker 2: I say that, people look at me like that would
- 30:46Speaker 2: not have been who I thought. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I
- 30:51Speaker 2: don't know. I don't know if it was. It was
- 30:52Speaker 2: the mask and how fluid and how cool he was.
- 30:56Speaker 2: I actually ended up getting to work not against him,
- 31:00Speaker 2: but on the same card as him when I was
- 31:03Speaker 2: with w c W. Crazy story. Sure come back talking
- 31:08Speaker 2: about living the gimmick, like people always like, man, he
- 31:10Speaker 2: lived the gimmick. I remember coming back from my match,
- 31:13Speaker 2: Mill had already worked. I go in to get in
- 31:16Speaker 2: the shower and there he is showering with his mask on.
- 31:19Speaker 2: I love it, Yeah, I love it. He had his
- 31:21Speaker 2: mask on. It's one of those things you walk in.
- 31:24Speaker 2: I just stopped like like should like should I be
- 31:26Speaker 2: here right now? And I was like, oh man, okay,
- 31:30Speaker 2: he's even he protects it back here too, And not
- 31:36Speaker 2: that I was watching him in the shower, but it's.
- 31:38Speaker 1: At this point it's okay that you were.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Right so one that yeah, he's over there and I'm
- 31:43Speaker 2: in this corner. I just every once in a while
- 31:44Speaker 2: would just like look back to see if he still
- 31:46Speaker 2: had his mask on. And I look back one time
- 31:48Speaker 2: and he pulled it off. He pulled it off and
- 31:52Speaker 2: hooked it onto the spicett there or the nozzle and
- 31:57Speaker 2: washed his face and his hair real quick, rinsed off
- 31:59Speaker 2: and it put the hood right. I mean, it probably
- 32:01Speaker 2: wouldn't twenty seconds, Yeah, and then don't. I don't know.
- 32:06Speaker 2: Maybe that affected me later on, like when I when
- 32:08Speaker 2: I started really having a gimmick, like I always thought
- 32:12Speaker 2: back to mill like, dude, this guy's even got the
- 32:15Speaker 2: hood on in the in the shower.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Well, I feel like there's a ton of synergy now
- 32:19Speaker 1: that you bring that up. In a sense, it's completely
- 32:21Speaker 1: different styles. Luca Libre and oh yeah they you know,
- 32:24Speaker 1: like what you were doing, and but but what you said,
- 32:28Speaker 1: he that's the efforts he was willing to go and
- 32:32Speaker 1: to an outsiders, arn Anderson would say to to a civilian.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Maybe to a civilians that WL I would say, maybe
- 32:39Speaker 1: that seems so odd, but to you, it's not odd
- 32:42Speaker 1: at all.
- 32:43Speaker 2: It's what we do. It is what Yeah. If you care,
- 32:46Speaker 2: you and this means something to you. Yeah, yeah, you
- 32:48Speaker 2: go to those links and yeah, a lesson learn.
- 32:51Speaker 1: I'm curious about Houston because I grew up in I
- 32:57Speaker 1: would watch what was contemporary to me, W C of
- 33:00Speaker 1: You in the early nineties Crockett is when I first
- 33:03Speaker 1: started getting into some tapes and submit Atlantic. I didn't
- 33:07Speaker 1: know anything about mid South yet, a little Florida here
- 33:09Speaker 1: and there. But Houston and Paul, who my mother of
- 33:13Speaker 1: all people, will always go on record that Paul was
- 33:15Speaker 1: one of the greater payoff men. Okay, so that and
- 33:18Speaker 1: then the custom jewelry that Paul was right. Yes, I
- 33:22Speaker 1: have a belt buckle, the cauliflower ear in the corner
- 33:25Speaker 1: the television and the other it's one of Paul's.
- 33:29Speaker 2: Have one of them.
- 33:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I have one of his belt buckles. Yeah. But
- 33:32Speaker 1: I'm so curious what made Houston wrestling, Because Texas is
- 33:35Speaker 1: such a wild territorial situation, being such a big, big state.
- 33:39Speaker 1: What made Paul and Houston's wrestling so special because Bruce
- 33:43Speaker 1: who's been on this podcast, who when he came on
- 33:45Speaker 1: the podcast, I wanted to run through a brick wall.
- 33:48Speaker 1: I never felt more motivated just listening to a man
- 33:51Speaker 1: talk about wrestling and what it takes and who's if
- 33:55Speaker 1: you're going to be on top and all this stuff.
- 33:57Speaker 2: I just, oh, it's amazing listening listening to Bruce, and
- 34:00Speaker 2: once you can just decipher what's real, what's sure, you know, Yeah,
- 34:07Speaker 2: but yeah, it's amazing. No, Houston just had that, you know,
- 34:11Speaker 2: so back then you got the guys that are traveling,
- 34:13Speaker 2: You had Andre that travel It's the first time obviously
- 34:15Speaker 2: I'd ever seen Andrea. I think I was twelve, maybe
- 34:20Speaker 2: thirteen when I met, or not met, but like got
- 34:23Speaker 2: to shake Andrea's hand. You know, you get to see
- 34:27Speaker 2: the Chikh and Abdullah, Joe La Duke, Jose Lathario, the Blackjacks.
- 34:36Speaker 2: I mean, all those guys come through there. Yea red
- 34:40Speaker 2: Basting If that name means anything to yours, Yeah, it's
- 34:44Speaker 2: just there was just such a a ruggedness to it,
- 34:50Speaker 2: like it just like these dudes were you know, even
- 34:54Speaker 2: as a kid, you were like, oh, I remember me
- 34:57Speaker 2: and my friend from across the street again twelve and
- 35:00Speaker 2: that that area of a man and the Sheik, the
- 35:04Speaker 2: original Sheik is coming into town, right, and we're we're
- 35:08Speaker 2: building ourselves up. My mom had got tickets for us
- 35:12Speaker 2: Sam Houston Colisseum, and that was like a super huge
- 35:17Speaker 2: treat because we were both such big wrestling fans. But
- 35:21Speaker 2: so the Sheek's gonna be on the card, right, and
- 35:24Speaker 2: the tickets my mom get are right on the aisle,
- 35:28Speaker 2: it right, so we're gonna be able to I mean,
- 35:30Speaker 2: we're gonna be right there, right on the aisle by them.
- 35:33Speaker 2: So we're building ourselves up the whole week, right, you
- 35:36Speaker 2: know wrestling. It was Friday night, so we're we find
- 35:41Speaker 2: out maybe Monday or Tuesday, we're gonna go. We're talking
- 35:44Speaker 2: all week long. Yeah, man, when the Sheep comes down, Man,
- 35:47Speaker 2: we're gonna we're gonna say this to him and we're
- 35:49Speaker 2: gonna do this, and we're gonna we're gonna I might,
- 35:52Speaker 2: I might throw something. Adding So we got ourselves, we
- 35:55Speaker 2: got ourselves hyped up all week long. We're what we're
- 35:58Speaker 2: gonna do to the Sheep. And you have to understand,
- 36:01Speaker 2: like you have to go back and realize how scary
- 36:07Speaker 2: the Sheek and now Abdulah wor you know, in this
- 36:11Speaker 2: time period, like you you believed everything that they did
- 36:15Speaker 2: was legit, and then we and we were right there, right,
- 36:18Speaker 2: but so we'd build ourselves up. Man, So here we are.
- 36:23Speaker 2: Here comes the Sheek, you know, and he's doing his stuff,
- 36:26Speaker 2: and he's got his walk, and like, my buddy was
- 36:30Speaker 2: in front of me, and I was like, I'm going
- 36:32Speaker 2: for it, right, So I moved him out of the
- 36:34Speaker 2: way and I start to lean over this barricade and
- 36:37Speaker 2: I'm like like, and he darts at me. Oh gosh,
- 36:42Speaker 2: I damn near took the whole row out running from him.
- 36:49Speaker 2: He scared the living crap out of me. And in turn,
- 36:53Speaker 2: like I was like I was hanged snow and I
- 36:56Speaker 2: was hanging. I was getting out of there because I
- 36:57Speaker 2: knew he was coming. He can that he was gonna
- 37:01Speaker 2: come over that barricade and get me. Man, Yeah, I
- 37:04Speaker 2: wiped out. I bet I've wiped out three or four
- 37:06Speaker 2: people just trying to get out of his way. And
- 37:09Speaker 2: I love the build up.
- 37:12Speaker 1: Over the course of the week for the show in
- 37:14Speaker 1: terms of you thinking, oh, I'm gonna we're gonna say
- 37:17Speaker 1: this to him, we're gonna do whatever, because I didn't
- 37:20Speaker 1: realize until later in my dad's life. His dad, the
- 37:24Speaker 1: plumber Virgil, That's what he liked to do. Friday night
- 37:29Speaker 1: in Texas, in Austin, they would go to wrestling and
- 37:33Speaker 1: what he wanted. It was a release for him. He'd
- 37:36Speaker 1: try to fight every wrestler, That's what he'd not really
- 37:39Speaker 1: try to fight, but he'd sit there and yell and scream,
- 37:41Speaker 1: and that was his whole thing. And I had always
- 37:44Speaker 1: thought they just went as fans. Don't hear that as
- 37:46Speaker 1: much anymore these days, like modern fans are coming maybe
- 37:49Speaker 1: for different reasons. But I love the idea of I'm
- 37:52Speaker 1: gonna let them know. I'm gonna let that. I'm gonna
- 37:54Speaker 1: let that bad guy let that he'll know how I feel. Oh,
- 37:57Speaker 1: that's a oh man. And of course he Sean told
- 38:02Speaker 1: me something one time, and I never forgot it. He
- 38:05Speaker 1: was saying, be in a bit of a lighter heavyweight,
- 38:08Speaker 1: that people would say stuff to him all. It'd scream
- 38:10Speaker 1: stuff in the ring, whatever he probably hurt all, but
- 38:13Speaker 1: he'd always just kind of lean back and whatever was
- 38:16Speaker 1: in that eye, he'd want them to know I'm a
- 38:19Speaker 1: psychopath and it's something like, oh, I could tell no,
- 38:21Speaker 1: maybe I can't take him. Yeah, maybe not, you know,
- 38:23Speaker 1: just and I thought that's such a cool way to
- 38:25Speaker 1: look at it, because it's it's not so much the
- 38:29Speaker 1: size as much as the intent and as much as
- 38:32Speaker 1: the belief and commitment to the being in there. Oh man.
- 38:36Speaker 2: Yeah, And Seawan was amazing on so many on so
- 38:40Speaker 2: many levels. I think he was he was before his
- 38:43Speaker 2: time and what he could do athletically, but that was
- 38:46Speaker 2: only a small part of what Seawan did. What he did.
- 38:52Speaker 2: What I always loved about Sean is again, he could
- 38:55Speaker 2: bump and sell and do all this pretty shit, but
- 38:58Speaker 2: at one moment, at the right time in a match,
- 39:01Speaker 2: when it comes to dukes right, it should always to me,
- 39:04Speaker 2: it always it boils down. You can do all that
- 39:07Speaker 2: flying head scissors and all these other things, but when
- 39:10Speaker 2: it gets down, it gets to a point in the
- 39:11Speaker 2: match where it comes down to dukes and fighting right.
- 39:15Speaker 2: And regardless of how outsized he was or who he
- 39:18Speaker 2: was in the ring with, when it came down, you
- 39:21Speaker 2: believed him right. And that's a that's a gift to
- 39:25Speaker 2: have because a lot of people you don't like, Yeah,
- 39:31Speaker 2: stick to the high flying but Sean had that thing
- 39:34Speaker 2: in him, that dog, I guess is what you had?
- 39:37Speaker 2: That dog in him, that look in his eye that
- 39:40Speaker 2: you're talking about. It's like, hey, we got to go
- 39:42Speaker 2: to Duke's. We're going to go to Dukes. And I mean,
- 39:45Speaker 2: I tell you, there's probably no one that I had
- 39:48Speaker 2: rather work with than him talking about chemistry and all that. Man,
- 39:51Speaker 2: I could, I could, I could have a match with it.
- 39:54Speaker 2: Well not now, but when we were going I could
- 39:59Speaker 2: have a match with him. Just like it's a night off. Yeah,
- 40:02Speaker 2: it's so easy.
- 40:03Speaker 1: And I always say it's like a night off, but
- 40:04Speaker 1: it's a night on. You're discovering all new stuff and
- 40:06Speaker 1: everything's hitting as well. You mentioned that dog in them.
- 40:09Speaker 1: I think the first guy as I started looking at
- 40:12Speaker 1: the wrestling industry from the okay, how do we do this?
- 40:16Speaker 1: How what was the makeup of this person? But someone
- 40:19Speaker 1: else who had that dog in them? I didn't realize
- 40:22Speaker 1: this was Tully Blanchard and I watched a lot of
- 40:26Speaker 1: I've watched all these random tag team hot tags. This
- 40:29Speaker 1: week where Tully met the guy on the ropes and
- 40:32Speaker 1: had to fight his way out, and it was just
- 40:34Speaker 1: a completely different sense of it.
- 40:36Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 40:37Speaker 1: I don't know if I've ever told you this story,
- 40:38Speaker 1: but one time Hunter told me, he's like, you've got
- 40:40Speaker 1: the same exact thing. He's like, you got to be
- 40:42Speaker 1: able to go for it, and you got to be
- 40:44Speaker 1: able to hang in there. Doesn't mean you're not gonna
- 40:47Speaker 1: take your licks, but you're getting back up. You're coming again.
- 40:50Speaker 1: So he told me, he said, at this point in
- 40:51Speaker 1: your career, I was a bad guy. I was doing
- 40:52Speaker 1: dashing Cody Rhodes. He said, don't be afraid to run
- 40:55Speaker 1: back in there. Let that babyface know and take one more.
- 40:58Speaker 1: One time I ever tried it. One time was Booker,
- 41:02Speaker 1: and and Booker is in there, just doing Booker, you
- 41:06Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, And I let him know. I'm yelling, screaming.
- 41:09Speaker 1: So because last thing I want to do, I'm not
- 41:11Speaker 1: trying to break the flow of this up.
- 41:12Speaker 2: You got to hit me.
- 41:13Speaker 1: And I slid in there, and it's like it was magic.
- 41:17Speaker 1: He turned around and that giant Booker hand just right
- 41:21Speaker 1: here and just ear drum gone right away, and I
- 41:25Speaker 1: just work. I mean, yeah, I went down and I
- 41:33Speaker 1: went to the back, and I remember I just looked
- 41:34Speaker 1: at Hunter. He don't even remember him telling me that
- 41:36Speaker 1: story and this went well, didn't really work. You know,
- 41:40Speaker 1: you mentioned his working punch. One of my favorite things
- 41:43Speaker 1: with t book ever was I wrestled him when he
- 41:46Speaker 1: had come off commentary. So there was a little russ
- 41:49Speaker 1: for sure, but I ain't pointed that out. This is
- 41:51Speaker 1: the I'm always going to try. The veterans is going
- 41:55Speaker 1: to lead that. This is anything that goes wrong, it's
- 41:57Speaker 1: going to be my fault, even if you know, I
- 41:59Speaker 1: don't think that was, but it is my fault.
- 42:01Speaker 2: Right.
- 42:02Speaker 1: But he was in the corner lighting me up with chops,
- 42:05Speaker 1: but his head was moving so he wasn't looking at me.
- 42:08Speaker 1: So he's chopped here and then looking back and I
- 42:12Speaker 1: come back full handprint on my face, just all scratch
- 42:16Speaker 1: on my neck, and he was right in front of me,
- 42:18Speaker 1: and I'll just never forget. He's screaming follow that Shakespeare.
- 42:21Speaker 1: He's going on his whole bit, and I just every
- 42:23Speaker 1: one of them. I was looking at everyone like, yeah, here, guys,
- 42:26Speaker 1: it got considered considerably better. But I'll never forget because
- 42:30Speaker 1: now guys getting in the corner, they go to chop you.
- 42:32Speaker 1: It's so deliberate. So but man, he was literally just
- 42:35Speaker 1: flying all over mane right, he was. He was feeling
- 42:39Speaker 1: and it was worth it that he was feeling, you know,
- 42:41Speaker 1: it was worth it.
- 42:42Speaker 2: That's funny. Back in the day, I'd be in the
- 42:46Speaker 2: ring with Rock and I don't I don't know if
- 42:50Speaker 2: you ever noticed, but Rock would love to have you
- 42:52Speaker 2: your back to the tron.
- 42:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 42:55Speaker 2: And we were working one night and he is just
- 42:57Speaker 2: wearing me out right. He's got me up against the
- 42:59Speaker 2: row and he is just pounding me right. Ain't looking,
- 43:02Speaker 2: He's not looking anywhere. He's just watching himself whip my
- 43:05Speaker 2: ass on the trunk. It's like this, and I'm like,
- 43:11Speaker 2: I was like, hey, dude, if I will sell for you,
- 43:14Speaker 2: can you at least look me in the eyes while
- 43:16Speaker 2: you've beating my ass? And then he popped. He laughed
- 43:19Speaker 2: about it. It was just like, come on, man, oh
- 43:22Speaker 2: he was all into boom boom boom, just kidding.
- 43:28Speaker 1: You had you guys had the giant trons.
- 43:31Speaker 2: Just oh my gosh, you pick up everything. It was
- 43:34Speaker 2: just come on, man.

- 44:13Speaker 1: You men, you mentioned the Rock, You mentioned the Final Boss,
- 44:16Speaker 1: which is I. I struggle to know how I would
- 44:23Speaker 1: ask you this because I don't really talk about it
- 44:27Speaker 1: that often because I don't want to ruin what it was,
- 44:31Speaker 1: and I don't know if we could ruin what it was,
- 44:33Speaker 1: but just it was such a special thing to me.
- 44:34Speaker 1: But obviously we have to talk about Wrestlmania forty and
- 44:41Speaker 1: from my perspective, I'm very curious as far as your
- 44:44Speaker 1: perspective on it. But people will look at that and
- 44:47Speaker 1: it's I see all the time the greatest five minutes
- 44:49Speaker 1: in wrestling history, which is hilarious because within the five
- 44:52Speaker 1: minutes of section they cut out is just me laying
- 44:55Speaker 1: there selling, So I'm there, you know, But hey, you have.
- 44:58Speaker 2: To sometimes you got to set the t you're gonna
- 45:01Speaker 2: set the table and then then just sit back and
- 45:03Speaker 2: look at your handiwork.
- 45:04Speaker 1: I am in the corner. But this moment, I can
- 45:08Speaker 1: tell you that Hunter talked to me a lot about
- 45:11Speaker 1: what I was looking at, as far as what what
- 45:13Speaker 1: do you want that to be?
- 45:14Speaker 2: What is what?
- 45:15Speaker 1: What?
- 45:16Speaker 2: What is? It?
- 45:16Speaker 1: In the rivalry with Roman and Ice is rather rather real,
- 45:23Speaker 1: So it is one of those things you don't talk
- 45:25Speaker 1: a lot about. And I kept telling him I don't
- 45:27Speaker 1: it's I'm too close to this all you whatever play
- 45:31Speaker 1: you call, we're gonna we're gonna run it. But I
- 45:37Speaker 1: describe it as actual magic is basically what happened in
- 45:41Speaker 1: front of me. And again John Cena comes down first
- 45:44Speaker 1: to neutralize Solo Soca. John rolls to the backside, but
- 45:48Speaker 1: I can see him. He's on the backside, he's up.
- 45:50Speaker 2: Against the wall.
- 45:51Speaker 1: After Rocket came out to neutralize John Cena, and then
- 45:54Speaker 1: of course, uh, the bells hit and the part to
- 45:59Speaker 1: me that so wild because you know how a blackout
- 46:02Speaker 1: looks in the arena. It's not always a blackout in
- 46:04Speaker 1: the arena like it is on TV. But you you
- 46:08Speaker 1: kind of pulled a little bit of a Yoda move
- 46:10Speaker 1: where you're walking around backstage real you know, slow and
- 46:15Speaker 1: just kind of get you know, conserving your energy, and
- 46:18Speaker 1: then the speed to which you roll in the ring.
- 46:21Speaker 1: You can hear it on the you can hear it.
- 46:24Speaker 1: It's like it's like listening to a guy at a
- 46:26Speaker 1: wrestling school do a role for the first time and
- 46:29Speaker 1: do it right. You sped in there and stood right up,
- 46:31Speaker 1: and then when the reveal comes up, there you are.
- 46:34Speaker 1: This moment happens, grab him, give him a big choke slam,
- 46:39Speaker 1: he goes up for it. Boom, a big moment, and
- 46:42Speaker 1: then you you did. The coolest thing is you look back,
- 46:46Speaker 1: knowing what was happening in the entire match. You look
- 46:48Speaker 1: back at me, and of course I was in a cell,
- 46:52Speaker 1: so the moment wasn't what maybe you had envisioned. But
- 46:55Speaker 1: you look back at me just to give me a
- 46:57Speaker 1: little like I got him. It's yours now. I got him.
- 47:02Speaker 1: But then you winked, And I tell people this all
- 47:04Speaker 1: the time. I went like this, and when you winked,
- 47:06Speaker 1: the lights went out, and I remember thinking he's he
- 47:13Speaker 1: shoot fucking magic and I couldn't like I I'm going
- 47:23Speaker 1: in my mind through the how oh did he did
- 47:26Speaker 1: they know? Did they see him do it? No, they didn't,
- 47:29Speaker 1: because you turned your back to the hard game to
- 47:31Speaker 1: look at me and give me that moment, and that
- 47:34Speaker 1: moment accompanied by I saw John's eyes and he just
- 47:40Speaker 1: watched and kind of just like gave me. It gave
- 47:44Speaker 1: me something, you know, just just a nod, whatever it is.
- 47:50Speaker 1: I'm sure you know, but that that did so much,
- 47:54Speaker 1: not just for the match and the match as it
- 47:56Speaker 1: stands today, not just for the spectacle of WrestleMania, not
- 47:59Speaker 1: just for ww history, because WrestleMania forty it's a tenure
- 48:03Speaker 1: Mania where it's everything. It's past, it's present, it's future,
- 48:06Speaker 1: it's all those things. But the amount of people who
- 48:13Speaker 1: did honors for me and put me over to go
- 48:17Speaker 1: over in that moment. I can never never tell you
- 48:22Speaker 1: enough times how grateful I am for it and how
- 48:25Speaker 1: special it was, and how honored I was and still am.
- 48:29Speaker 1: And not only that pressure in terms of look at
- 48:34Speaker 1: what they did, don't screw this up, look at what
- 48:38Speaker 1: they did, don't don't honor what they did. I say
- 48:42Speaker 1: it all the time, is this honor what we did here?
- 48:44Speaker 1: And I don't use it in a political way. I
- 48:46Speaker 1: mean it, we did all this, do we honor it?
- 48:49Speaker 1: Am I still honoring it? And I just if I
- 48:52Speaker 1: didn't get the opportunity to tell you in person it
- 48:55Speaker 1: I'd be kicking myself. Thank you very much, I mean,
- 48:58Speaker 1: thank you. It was it was a wrestler's dream to
- 49:04Speaker 1: have Hall of Famer Hall of Famer Mount Rushmore got
- 49:07Speaker 1: everything right there my childhood. In addition to that, someone
- 49:11Speaker 1: who also taught me things, someone who I drove around
- 49:13Speaker 1: all of it, every piece of it. I couldn't ask.
- 49:19Speaker 1: I didn't want to come back and tell my wife.
- 49:20Speaker 1: I didn't want to tell, hey, well we peaked, you know,
- 49:24Speaker 1: like I didn't want to say that because I knew, like, hey,
- 49:25Speaker 1: the road begins now. But I also knew if I
- 49:28Speaker 1: never was in that spot again, i'd be I was
- 49:32Speaker 1: incredibly lucky that I was ever there in the first place.
- 49:34Speaker 2: Yeah. No, And the only thank you I think anybody
- 49:36Speaker 2: would ever want is for you to do what you've
- 49:39Speaker 2: done and continue to grow and grow the sport and
- 49:43Speaker 2: take that and go to the next level with it.
- 49:46Speaker 2: I mean, that's the only that's the only thank you
- 49:48Speaker 2: is that whatever anybody would ever ask for, it was incredibly,
- 49:52Speaker 2: incredibly special moment even even for us obviously for you
- 49:57Speaker 2: and and what's about to happen for you, but you know,
- 50:01Speaker 2: for all of us to be in there again, you know,
- 50:02Speaker 2: me and Rock, to be in the ringing together again,
- 50:04Speaker 2: all those things. It was. It was just such a cool,
- 50:07Speaker 2: cool moment. And yeah, I wish I could say that
- 50:13Speaker 2: the eyewink and the lights going out were my doing
- 50:16Speaker 2: or I know it was that was just fate and
- 50:18Speaker 2: that was that was That was a cool that just happened.
- 50:21Speaker 2: But uh, you know that that but yeah, man, that
- 50:25Speaker 2: was that was just again setting the table for you
- 50:29Speaker 2: and an incredible run and out of the way and
- 50:32Speaker 2: how serious that you take this business, and yeah, that's
- 50:38Speaker 2: it was just fun. It was. It was a fun night.
- 50:40Speaker 2: And the only reason that that I moved so fast
- 50:43Speaker 2: is because you don't want to screw that up. Yeah,
- 50:45Speaker 2: you got to be up for it. You've got to
- 50:47Speaker 2: be you can't do the yeah, old man, old man
- 50:51Speaker 2: moving in here. Yeah. So it was funny because i'd
- 50:54Speaker 2: had you know, just the probably hadn't been a year
- 50:58Speaker 2: yet that I had had both my knees replaced. I
- 51:02Speaker 2: did them both, and they so they bring me into
- 51:05Speaker 2: the bowl to load me right and they brought me
- 51:09Speaker 2: in at one end of the stadium and I had
- 51:11Speaker 2: to get underneath a hard camera.
- 51:13Speaker 1: May it's difficult as possible where I was.
- 51:15Speaker 2: Going to stage, and you know, the sequences are starting
- 51:20Speaker 2: to happen, and they're like, okay, we got to hurry.
- 51:24Speaker 2: I've never run on my new knees.
- 51:27Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, never okay, and.
- 51:30Speaker 2: I'm like, okay, here we go and here I am man,
- 51:34Speaker 2: and I'm like, holy shit, I'm running. Yes, this ain't
- 51:37Speaker 2: happened in a while. And it feels pretty damn good here, right,
- 51:41Speaker 2: So uh, maybe got a little gas, yeah, but you yeah,
- 51:46Speaker 2: the knees were like. I was like, holy shit, I
- 51:49Speaker 2: can still go. Yeah, absolutely not.
- 51:52Speaker 1: I mean in a way you did well.
- 51:55Speaker 2: I had to get I had to I got to
- 51:57Speaker 2: where I had to get and then I got to
- 51:59Speaker 2: the ring and got in ring and standing up for
- 52:00Speaker 2: the lights come on. So it's all good.
- 52:03Speaker 1: Double knees and after that, no complications, right, you didn't
- 52:06Speaker 1: like go back to the hospital. After that. You're the
- 52:09Speaker 1: they're good, are solid.
- 52:12Speaker 2: The knees are yeah, these are good man. Yeah.
- 52:14Speaker 1: My brother Chicken Chicken just got the double knee. Yeah,
- 52:17Speaker 1: it sucks, man, Yeah.
- 52:19Speaker 2: It sucks.
- 52:19Speaker 1: I kind of want to mess with him on it.
- 52:21Speaker 1: I might even see him later trying like challenge him
- 52:23Speaker 1: with something that clearly, oh you just had double knee surgery.
- 52:26Speaker 1: He's not capable of do it.
- 52:27Speaker 2: How far how far out is he?
- 52:28Speaker 1: What a month or two months?
- 52:30Speaker 2: Oh? No? Oh yeah you could. You can come slap
- 52:32Speaker 2: him in the back. Yeah, you can't catch something like just.
- 52:34Speaker 1: Really really frustrating. Yeah, you mentioned to take it to
- 52:39Speaker 1: taking it seriously, the future of the sport, evolving it,
- 52:42Speaker 1: growing it, going through whatever challenges present themselves, and just
- 52:45Speaker 1: trying to leave it better than we found it. You're
- 52:47Speaker 1: very much in terms of looking at the future of everything. Uh,
- 52:52Speaker 1: Triple A, Triple A. I you were at it. You
- 52:56Speaker 1: were in Mexico City, You're there at the monitor. What
- 53:00Speaker 1: what are you seeing in terms of what you're doing
- 53:03Speaker 1: now and what you want to do with the future
- 53:06Speaker 1: of sports entertainment, pro wrestling in the sport in general.
- 53:10Speaker 2: Yeah, helping out with Creative and doing some stuff with
- 53:12Speaker 2: with Triple A. I'm trying to like my vision is
- 53:20Speaker 2: to take almost take a step back, okay, to step forward. Yeah,
- 53:27Speaker 2: I'm I'm really high on on the on the physicality
- 53:34Speaker 2: and the and the actual in ring stuff and things
- 53:39Speaker 2: making sense, which is which is kind of difficult from
- 53:44Speaker 2: where I've come from. And then working with Triple A,
- 53:48Speaker 2: you know, the the lucha, the lucha libre legacy is incredible,
- 53:55Speaker 2: right with the mask, and then there's so many like
- 53:58Speaker 2: as you are a legacy, there's so many you know,
- 54:02Speaker 2: there's there's this guy who then has a son who
- 54:05Speaker 2: has so all these legacies and all this culture is
- 54:09Speaker 2: in there, So I don't want. What we're trying to
- 54:11Speaker 2: do is is is honor that, but but give more
- 54:17Speaker 2: production value to the product and and and help storytell
- 54:26Speaker 2: a little better. I think that's the biggest thing. Like
- 54:29Speaker 2: they are talking about incredible athletes and the things that
- 54:31Speaker 2: they can do is it's amazing. And the following they
- 54:35Speaker 2: have is amazing. So if I can take the best
- 54:38Speaker 2: of Lucha libre and the best of what I know,
- 54:43Speaker 2: and I can I can mold them together, I think
- 54:46Speaker 2: we're gonna have with something that's really really special down there.
- 54:49Speaker 2: And but that's the key is trying to not I'm
- 54:52Speaker 2: trying not trying to make Triple A Luca libre. I'm
- 54:56Speaker 2: not trying to make it raw or SmackDown WW I'm
- 55:00Speaker 2: taking some elements of that, adding it to what they
- 55:03Speaker 2: already do and try and make a product that everyone
- 55:07Speaker 2: will want to see. And it's an alternative. It's just
- 55:10Speaker 2: like the you know, the other company, Raw SmackDown, all
- 55:14Speaker 2: these other you know, just to give people a variety
- 55:18Speaker 2: in different things to enjoy about wrestling.
- 55:20Speaker 1: So I was going to ask you a specific question
- 55:23Speaker 1: thinking about Triple A and what you would tell someone
- 55:26Speaker 1: moving in the future, but I feel like I'm gonna
- 55:29Speaker 1: kind of specify here because I'm actually very interested in
- 55:32Speaker 1: This is something at my school, the Nightmare Factory. I
- 55:35Speaker 1: have yet to figure out how to even address with
- 55:38Speaker 1: people because a lot of young wrestlers want to do
- 55:44Speaker 1: a big time gimmick, and I say big time gimmick,
- 55:47Speaker 1: this spooky, mystical, artsy, whatever it may be. And I
- 55:53Speaker 1: heard a term the other day about someone backstage, and
- 55:55Speaker 1: I thought, that's the craziest thing I've ever heard. They
- 55:57Speaker 1: referred as somebody as a proper lighting guy, and they
- 56:01Speaker 1: because they basically they needed all the smoke and mirrors,
- 56:04Speaker 1: they couldn't be seen in this setting. And I thought, hmm,
- 56:09Speaker 1: that's not the case with you in a sense that
- 56:13Speaker 1: you were out there full dead Man and this is
- 56:17Speaker 1: throughout all the runs American Badass dead Man. Everything as
- 56:21Speaker 1: striking and jiu jitsu got involved in it, and like
- 56:23Speaker 1: all your evolutions all that you still were able to
- 56:26Speaker 1: be in some of the greatest backstages of all time.
- 56:30Speaker 1: Not proper not proper lighting not and it didn't break
- 56:33Speaker 1: the mold on the character. What do you tell someone
- 56:38Speaker 1: who's entering that space of a hundred percent layering on
- 56:42Speaker 1: a big time gimmick. You know, I could say proper lighting,
- 56:45Speaker 1: but something spooky, something mystical, something that's really fantastical. What
- 56:50Speaker 1: would you tell them about how do you get it? Actually?
- 56:53Speaker 1: Because to me, you're this anomaly whenever we talk about this,
- 56:56Speaker 1: and then bray Wyatt an anomaly in terms of they
- 56:59Speaker 1: were able to make it work. The bell rang still
- 57:01Speaker 1: and they were wrestlers, and so how what's the secret
- 57:05Speaker 1: to that formula in terms of being that gimmick and
- 57:08Speaker 1: I don't want to use the word gimmick, but being
- 57:09Speaker 1: that character, but making it translate into all facets of
- 57:12Speaker 1: how we do TV.
- 57:13Speaker 2: Yeah, as corny as it may sound like, you you
- 57:16Speaker 2: have you have to believe to a certain degree that
- 57:21Speaker 2: you are that gimmick. And again that kind of goes back.
- 57:24Speaker 2: You know, people, man, you live the gimmick. You did
- 57:26Speaker 2: this and you did that. It helped me when I
- 57:29Speaker 2: was in the airport and I was all in black
- 57:33Speaker 2: and people like, oh, you know who that is, like
- 57:36Speaker 2: although I wasn't in my ring year, but it was obvious, like, dude,
- 57:40Speaker 2: that's that's the that's the undertaker. Yeah right. And although
- 57:44Speaker 2: it was different, but it was the same. And you know,
- 57:48Speaker 2: my interactions were always very very calculated with people outside
- 57:56Speaker 2: of you know, outside of our dressing room or whatever. Yeah,
- 58:00Speaker 2: they got to you know, they got to see me,
- 58:01Speaker 2: but it was I was very calculated. So living in
- 58:06Speaker 2: the gimmick is. But you have to believe in what
- 58:08Speaker 2: you're doing, right. You can't just like Okay, I'm this guy, now,
- 58:12Speaker 2: this is this is what I am. One. You have
- 58:15Speaker 2: to find something that that that resonates with you. Yeah right.
- 58:20Speaker 2: You you have to have that that that sometimes it
- 58:23Speaker 2: could be it's even luck sometimes that whether you find
- 58:28Speaker 2: it or whether you don't find it, but you have
- 58:30Speaker 2: to commit, in my opinion, to make something like hmm, okay, yeah,
- 58:38Speaker 2: he's different. I got new people that knew I wasn't dead.
- 58:41Speaker 1: Yeah, but just figuring it out, Like you said, how
- 58:43Speaker 1: you would deal with someone in the airport, how you
- 58:45Speaker 1: deal somebody when you were in full you you figured
- 58:48Speaker 1: each and everyone out, and it made you more of
- 58:51Speaker 1: the character. It just it gave you more tools, right,
- 58:55Speaker 1: I had only Johnson. Sina explained that once something about
- 58:58Speaker 1: Moon He's doing the rap gimmick, and he was rapping everywhere.
- 59:00Speaker 1: He'd go to a station every he'd do local, local press,
- 59:04Speaker 1: and he said, that's where he figured out his report,
- 59:07Speaker 1: that's where he figured out he's kind of brand guidelines
- 59:10Speaker 1: to basically stay in it all the time, to stay
- 59:13Speaker 1: in that all the time, but without insulting anyone either.
- 59:16Speaker 2: To me, that's that becomes the difficult part, right because
- 59:20Speaker 2: you know, even early on they were crazy enough they
- 59:25Speaker 2: would book Paul beren I to do Regis and Kathy Lee. Right,
- 59:32Speaker 2: and it's like, yeah, I'm hearing it, and I'm going
- 59:37Speaker 2: why would they do that to me? Right? I mean
- 59:39Speaker 2: I can't interact because you know how Regius was. You know,
- 59:42Speaker 2: he he was a big wrestling fan and he wanted
- 59:45Speaker 2: to have fun and play. And then Kathy Lee, he
- 59:48Speaker 2: was Kathy Lee and uh, you know, so trying to
- 59:52Speaker 2: navigate those kind of waters and you sometimes you just
- 59:56Speaker 2: have to like I'm going to come off like a
- 59:58Speaker 2: dick here, but to them, yeah, but my fans and
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: the people that dig what we do are going to
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: totally ship because so many times when you get into
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: a different genre or a different you just naturally kind
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: of gravitate whatever they're doing, right, and you let your
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: guard down. So I had to have that mindset like, Okay,
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: you're gonna you know, I remember them cutting up, like
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: you know, producers come back and Okay, Kathley is not
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: much into wrestling. She's probably not gonna say anything, you know, Regis.
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: It'll all be with Regis. So you get out there
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: and then she starts chirping, right, she starts saying different things,
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: and it's like, okay, so you know, I'm just like,
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: you know, I'm like, oh, here, you're in a bad mood,
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: and you where you want to like the inside of
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: you just wants to be like shut up, like I'm
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: I'm working here, right. You know, obviously you can't you
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: can't do that, but you have to, you know, you
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: just have to make the best of it. But uh,
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: you know there there Yeah, there were times where like
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: I just like I had to live it. You know,
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: there's there's layers to live in the character too.
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: Around the time you mentioned readers and Cavilli and that's
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: I wanted to ask you, and I thought, I don't
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: want to ask him a question that's like a click
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: baity type question.
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: But oh, here we go.
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: I do feel this Erab, this is my childhood, this
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: era of WWE and this arah of w CW as well.
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: You.
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: I don't know how many people had the same your
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: chemistry with Brett and your chemistry with Sean. You were
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: just the like the trio. I feel like I don't
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: want to ask, but I have to ask. Did you
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: have one you preferred wrestling or was it more what
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: you were doing in the like the creative of it all.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: I cause you hear there's always like an argument.
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: Now.
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: I love them both. Growing up, Uh, Sean was my guy, right,
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: But then as I got older, I'm like, oh, no,
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: Brett's I didn't even see all this. Brett's doing something
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: completely different here, and just an appreciation for them both
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: being so great. But you got to be in there
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: with him. Yeah, all of you priming up. Yeah, just
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: getting better. Did you have one you preferred?
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: Uh? You know what, I could, I could lose a
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: bit either one of them, you know what I mean
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: I did. They were both great, and they're both so
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: good in the ring. I probably had the very best
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: chemistry with Sean. And but I tell you what, I've
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: said this a few times about Brett because Brett didn't
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: want to talking about living this and believing everything Brett did,
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: and I respect that. When when Brett was a champion,
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: he was the champion, right, and he conducted himself as
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: a champion and from from top to bottom, so you know,
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: so I was when I started working with Brett, like,
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: I was real, real heavy. Even in my my ring
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: work with the character, right, I was still trying to
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: establish all of that. And there was only so far
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: Brett was going to go with with the as he
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: called it, the Frankenstein gimmick. Right, There was only so
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: far he was going to go to uh you know,
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: to put to put me over with that, and I
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: had to. You know, obviously he was a more tenured
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: guy who was he was higher up than me, so
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: there was not a lot I could do about it.
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: And I wanted to have great matches, and I wanted
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: to work with guys like Brett. So being able to
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: work against Brett forced me to learn how how to
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: work within the gimmick with with and have not just
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: a gimmick match, but to have really, really good matches.
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: And Brett forced me to get out of the out
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: of the comfort zone of the of the you know,
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: the Jason Voorhees, the Michael Myers off and actually put
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: on a wrestling match. So for that, I'll always be
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: grateful to Brett because he pushed me and made me
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: become better. Yeah, and then, you know, I've always said
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: this about Sean, like Sean may be the only guy
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: I've ever known that could have a five star match
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: with a broomstick. I mean, he's just that talented. But hey,
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: I'll give you first pick. I'll take the other guy, right, Yeah,
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: I don't.
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean the fact you got to navigate the
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: waters in terms of you had the great matches with
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: both of them. You're very much part of their their
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: stories and they're very much part of your stories. I'd
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: heard you say that about Brett before, and I think
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: that's really cool, because at what point does that happen.
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: You're you're kind of getting hit, always coming back up
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: getting hit, taking so much to keep you down. For example,
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: the amazing arm in the casket segment, which just selfishly.
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: Do you remember who produced this segment?
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: Was it Bruce? Probably back then when we did it,
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: it was probably Blue Bruce. Yeah, I would imagine yeah, because.
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: It's it's as as modernized and as high res as
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: it is, it's also the most old school thing you've
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: ever seen. Like he felt that you took Oh what
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: can we do? We can't keep him down?
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: No, we can.
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: This is how we're going to do it. And I thought, oh,
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: for you had to get just lackered with this chair over.
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: But it's such a great segment. I'm glad it was Bruce,
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: because you know how much your Bruce is everything. You're
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: just Bruce's I consider myself a bit of a Bruce
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: guy because he came back and got me. He literally
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: found me, got me, and I'm loyal to him. When
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: I came back from russ Mania thirty nine, it was
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: also real. I man, I don't know if I'm going
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: to be able to a full year on this chase
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: whatever mant He was the first one to be there
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: for me and just but Bruce, every story relates to
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: something with you. Every story ends up going back with
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: something with you and I just I'm sure you know
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: that already. But yeah, that segment's an amazing and amazing segment.
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: It was selfish. I wanted to know who who's behind it. It
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: felt very much like a Bruce sag. Yeah, Bruce haddled
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: most of my those early days. Bruce did most of
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: my stuff.
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: Yeah, all of the flesh freezing vignettes and the cemetery
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: and all that crap that we did.
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: I got to ask you, and I didn't think I
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: would ask you because I try to avoid Dusty talk
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: on here a lot, because it's you've done Dale Junior's pod, right,
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: Have you ever.
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: Thought we've just never been able to hook up on it?
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: He's the best.
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: I noticed when I watch other race car drivers and
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: other people, they it all ends up being a talk.
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: They talk a lot about his dad. Yeah, And he
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: said one time in a full basically you know, like
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: we all do. Sometimes you see what the critics and
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: haters are saying. I saw him one time. You give
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: like a little bit of a prologue in a sense like, hey, guys,
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: we're gonna talk about my dad on the show, so
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: if you don't like it, I'm sorry. Like, right, this
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: is a legendary race car driver who raced with him,
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: and I try to avoid it, but often it's hard
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: to avoid your debut in WW, your debut, and I
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: always look at it a little differently because it's your
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: debut and I think my dad was also on the
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: way out leaving. How was that? Was it fun or
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: was it terrible? Because it felt like you're you're walking
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: through everyone basically, and nothing's fully established. Shit, you know,
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: I don't think we're tombstone in.
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: Yet, or yeah, well yeah Coco got end up getting
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: the first tombstone. Yeah, very brutal, But.
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: That my sense, and I could be totally wrong. It
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: felt like it had to be pretty rough. Yeah, well
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: it was the marching orders on, like, hey, this is
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: what's happening, and you've got some who's who in there,
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: even if you so you didn't have to know at
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: the time, but almost everyone in WW had been a
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: massive star in a territory somewhere, right, so they'd done
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: the top for them and now coming up it was
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: a different ballgame. So can you speak to that because
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: I didn't think. Now I'm thinking about my dad takes
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: us like goofy throat chop. I don't even know what
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: it is, but this.
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: Is my early strike. Was a was a underhand chopped
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: to the throat.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: It's an amazing, uh debut for you and this is
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: a Survivor series. How is that day?
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: Uh? It was nerve wracking, right because I'd had the
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: you know, I'd had the little not a run. We
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: wouldn't even consider it a run. So you know, in
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: w c W and you know, obviously they tell me,
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: you know, they got nothing for me, and so I
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: end up there and now I have this incredible gimmick
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: right like that, no one like we don't know where
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: it's at yet. Yeah, we're still trying to and I'm
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: still trying to figure out what it is that I'm
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: gonna what this guy is. I just know he's going
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: to be methodical, slow paced right now, and uh, you know,
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: I'm going to debut at Survivor series and in the
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: ring is Brett Hart and Jim the Nvil night Heart
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: and honky tonk Man and Ted Dbiassi, Dusty Rhoads, you know,
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: and then they come and tell me, yeah, you're gonna
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: pretty much steamroll whole team everyone. Yea and uh. And again,
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: I think a lot of the guys that were in
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: that ring were finishing up and and some of them
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: begrudgingly yeah okay, and I'm like, oh boy, yeah, it's yeah,
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: this is popping, Like, yeah, I gotta like, I gotta
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: go out and get myself over. Yeah, I got this
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: new gimmick that I don't know exactly what I'm doing yet,
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: and I've got a bunch of disgruntled people that are
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: going to have to sell for me. And you know, the.
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: Enfranchise just enfranchised appranc is probably not helping you that much.
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: You've got to actually do this.
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: Yeah, it was, it was. It was a bit nerve wracking.
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: And then that you know that that era of guys
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: too were a little they were salty, man, they were,
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: especially if you're getting finished up and moving out of
- 1:09:50Speaker 2: the territory.
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: So then follow the money too, in terms of if
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: you weren't working. This is a little bit right around guaranteed,
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: pre guarantee, yeah.
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: Pre guarantee. Yeah yeah yeah, yeah, So yeah, there was
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: it was a little tense out there, you know, and
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: you know, you can hear you can hear a few
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: guys chirping here and there, Oh get a silver this kid, yeah,
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: you know, and oh brother, you know, here we go.
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: But uh, and then being in the ring again, like
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: with your dad, who was you know, when he's one
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: of the guys obviously that I watched, you know, loved
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: his all the stuff with him and Flair and that
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: whole you know, decades of battles and then yeah, you're
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: standing across the ring from these guys, right, and yeah,
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: it was. It was a nerve racking day. And eventually, yeah,
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: me and your dad fought out. Yeah, we fought out.
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: We both got counted out.
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: That was how this doesn't sound like it in the way.
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: That's tricky.
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, so yeah, so they had to get me
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: out so they I murder all these other guys. But
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: then they have to get me out to eliminate me.
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: But they don't want to pin me obviously. So yeah,
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: me and me and Dusty get to fight out and
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: I lose the I lose on account out.
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: Do you remember that was he difficult?
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: No? No, no, he was great. Yeah he knew Yeah, No.
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: I love hearing that. No, he knew his face makes
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: it look like he was being difficult.
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: No, not at all.
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: Okay, good no, no, no, no, yeah, come on, come on,
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: keep it up.
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: Maybe yeah, yeah no he was yeah no, no, not
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: at all like your dad knew business. I mean, it
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: was just you know, it was just what it was. Man.
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: He I think he had a knack people like you said,
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: and most people don't realize because you look at from
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: maybe the selfish, the whole body of work, a booker, champ,
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: all these things. But when we'd watch wrestling Modern wrestling
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: ECW was a thing when I was growing up, I'd
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: always watch him watch it, and that was what you
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: just said was something I realized. He gets business. It
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: might be totally different, but he gets like, no, this
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: is working. We got a roll with this, We got
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: to this is what, this is what the direction, this
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: is what you're to the ground sounds like like you're
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: the same, Like it's crazy lucha libre triple A. I mean,
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: but then you have Melma Scaris, that's your guy growing up,
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: and now you're down there and you're you're part of
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: that wonderful tradition and you said something that Thank you
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: for saying it, because I like to take things. This
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: is my this is again. We don't have the live events.
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: I have this podcast, so I get to talk to
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: the greatest of the greats. And here's something you said,
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: take a step back to then take a step forward.
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: Thank you. What a great because because it's all there's
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: always a challenge. We joked about the record house all that. Well,
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: those those eventually, you know, and then you're it's your
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: gig to bring them back and just take a step
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: back to take a step forwards. Really, man, it's a
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: really nice nice way to put it. My gosh, m hmm.
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: Yeah. What's old will be new again?
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: Yeah right, yeah, man, I'm so glad I asked about survivorsies.
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: He wasn't he was. He was in a good mood.
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: Huh yeah, oh yeah, yeah, no, it was everything was
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: everything was good. Man.
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: Man, what a rough run you're coming in and did
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: murdering a lot of guys and doing a powl driver. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: so that.
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: Was you know, I've told the I've told the story
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: like I kind of blew it off because I didn't
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: really think it was that bad, and I don't really,
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: I don't. Once I became once I became Undertaker, like
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: I watched because I was doing my outside like studying
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: like on Michael Myers and all the all the you know,
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: all of the slasher killers, and then trying to figure
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: out how to incorporate all that to what I wanted
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: to do. But I did, I kind of stopped watching.
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: I didn't know what was going on in Japan. I
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: didn't know what was going on in w CW. I
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: was so focused on what I was going to do,
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: and then I was watching the guys that were I
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: was competing with, so I didn't have a lot of uh,
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: you know, my knowledge on wrestling is was pretty small
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: in the sense of what other people have done. Sure,
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: so I give the first tombstone to Kocobe ware right,
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: and we get back and again this is again I
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: think he was one of the guys that was going
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: to finish up. I don't think he ended up finishing up.
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: He was on the list of guys that were finishing up.
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: So we'll get back in the back and he gives it,
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: gets kind of gets in my face, which is kind
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: of what was kind of humorous too, because you know,
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: Coco is not a tall guy, but he's like giving
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: me the riot act in this hallway about hey man,
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: if I give you my body, you got to protect me,
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: and which I'm yeah, absolutely, but I don't know like
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: that the too. I didn't know that. It didn't feel
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: like I thumped the mur yeah, and you know, and
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: he's like you gotta protect you know, He's really giving
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: me the riot Act, and I'm like, I'm apologizing, like like, dude,
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: that is not my that is not my deal. Like
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: I don't you know, I want to be safe, and
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: like if I hurt you, I apologize, right. I don't
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: know what else I can say. And we keep going,
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: you know, and he keeps going, and I guess he's
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: you know, he's upset, and he's got a bunch of
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: other stuff going on as mind too. So it finally
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: gets to a point where I'm like, oh, I've apologized
- 1:15:06Speaker 2: to you. Yeah, Now this is my first this is
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: my first day in the company, and now I'm having
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: I'm already having this issue, right, and I'm like, like,
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: do we have to go out in the lot? Right? Yeah?
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: I mean that's not what I wanted obviously, you know,
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: I just that's not what I wanted to do. But
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: it's like I didn't know what else, I like, I
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: can only you can only custom me for so long. Yeah,
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: you've made your point. I mean I don't know what
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: else I can say.
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: And you guys didn't go in the parking. No, no,
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: we didn't.
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: He left. I mean, you know, he and we were fine.
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: We're friends and everything was cool. But it was just
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: in the moment.
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: There's not many locker room arguments anymore, but I do
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: find that they all do end at that point, whereas okay,
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: are we fighting? Like just a classic are we fighting?
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: Is that No, we're not okay. Then you can only
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: say sorry so many times, right, and yeah, I.
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: Mean you have to yeah, if you know, that's just
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: the point you have to go, Okay, we got to
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: go somewhere else with this, and nobody wants that. But
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: it's the era too. It was just kind of like
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: it was salty. Last fight I remember was Big Show
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: and Collie. That was the last fight I remember watching.
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: It's so funny to hear the different descriptions on how
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: the fight went, you know, like some people talk about
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: hearing the thunderous blows because they were so big and
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: they were both hitting each other so hard, and then
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: the fight ends because Show fell off the suitcase right,
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: but then was he was upset because it looked like
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: he had lost the fight in terms.
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: Of somebody might have totally me lost, so you told
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: me lost. Yet one of my favorite things in life
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: is like, I love I love Show, I truly do.
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: But he has been on the receiving end of many
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: many pass chewings from me and and all of it
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: of that love because I knew how much potential and
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: talent that he really had, and I wanted him to
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: to use all of it. But he did receive a
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: lot of bit a lot of grief from me. And uh,
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: he hit He hit Collie so hard. I had to
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: look behind Collie to see what was holding him up.
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: He ate, he ate a right hand, He ate a
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: right hand from Big Show. That's the sound. That that
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: sound that it sounded like dropping a big RIBI a
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: steak on the counter, all right, And it was like ooh,
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: Collie just took a couple of steps back and then
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: they locked up again, and Big Show was getting to
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: him a little bit. But then he trips on the
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: suitcase and they end up in this little bitty locker
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: like a you know, the wooden locker with a seat,
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: so Big Show falls into it with Collie on top
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: of him, and and then that's when when Regal gets
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: involved in fish hooks to pull him off. It was
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: so good, it was good, good stuff, but the show
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: was getting to him. But I never let him know.
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: I was like, oh man, Collie Man, he was on
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: top of you.
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: Man, your way you were with Show, Big Show, Who
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: I love your way you were. I don't know if
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: anyone else has ever told you this. He often will say,
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: Taker told me this, Taker told me this.
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: Take.
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: He told me he was really big on reiterating something
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: you had taught him. And I don't know if I've
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: told this story on the podcast before, but I had
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: a moment with Show that was it changed my entire career.
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: But I was wrestling for ten nights in a row,
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: just on an overseas tour, and it was before we
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: had wrestled at WrestleMania, and he was beaten the first
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: three or four nights. We were doing so much haha,
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: hit me and he found this rubber chicken one time,
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: beat me with it and kept asking me to feed
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: up and get hit with it more. And then it
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: had me spit someone's drink in his way. It was
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: just a lot of kind of like this vaudeville comedy.
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: And I don't know what was striking me at the time. Again,
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: like there's other stuff going on with you, and usually
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: your dancing partner has to somehow hear about it or
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: feel it because you it's hard to keep it all contained.
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: But I told him myself, I'm gonna go in the
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: locker room. I'm and tell him, hey, I don't really
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: want to do the comedy stuff anymore. And I'm talking
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: myself up on the bus. And you know, I got
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: a good relationship with him. He seems to listen to
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: my ideas when I have him, so okay, And I
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: just told him, I said, hey, I uh, I don't
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: want to do Haha anymore. I want to I want
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: to get this to the right place before WrestleMania. And he, uh,
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: he was not happy, but he he kinda I could
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: tell he looked at me and wanted to probably say
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: something meaner, but then maybe rethought it and he just
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: looked at me though, and he goes, Okay, well then
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: you should get over and he left and I thought, yep, yeah,
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: that's right. And we did more comedy for the next
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: six nights than we had ever done, and there was
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: a lesson in it all because I remember it's like, did
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: you hear him out there? Like, when you come back,
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: you have equity with this crowd. You entertained them on
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: this random live event show that didn't have a lot
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: of things on it. They'll remember, they'll remember everything, and
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: he was dead on dead right. People still talk about
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: silly stuff that we did, and like the rubber Chicken
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: is still somehow involved in my career to find his
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: way into the ring. Yeah, rubber Chicken. Yeah no, But

- 1:21:48Speaker 1: Oh, it's so much of it is special to me.
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: But there's also this lack of preparation, and then when
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: I go to the garden, there's this feeling of the
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: that was the last time that the short entrance was
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: at the garden, the old school entrance. I think it's
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: welded over. Now it's impossible.
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: They can't even come out yeah anymore.
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: But you know, it was my first world rumble and
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: see him Punk is backstage and I remember him telling me,
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: He's like, what do you got planned? I don't know.
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: I throw another guy out, like joke around.
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: He's like, well no, it's like you're thirty to ninety seconds, man,
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: like gotta do something right. So now I'm thinking, what
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: an idiot, I'm an idiot. I should have talked to
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: all these guys because he's getting deep in the day,
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: you know, like I should have come up with something.
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: So I talked to him, like, can we do this?
- 1:22:34Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: Of course we Yeah, sounds great. My gosh, that spot
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: I did with him last maybe nine seconds.
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: Nine seconds.
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: Yeah, it's so quick, and it's like the spot happens
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: with Punk where I think it was like a reverse
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: atomic drop and I almost stump him out, which was
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: not a good call because he was a beloved babyface
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: at the time and I was just kind of on
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: the come up. But right when that happens, it's like
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: they missed production, missed that whole spot. But then they're like, hey,
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: it's Cody's he's in there. He's in the center. So
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: just me on the video wall, right in the center.
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: I'm not doing anything now, so I have this second
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: or two to think what could I do? And then
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: you were in the corner, and I just remember, like
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: what Randy had taught me and what everyone else. I thought, Yeah,
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: I'll just Yeah, he's the big dog in the yard,
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: so I'll go for I'll go after him, right and
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: I'm not thinking about part two of this. I'm just
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: thinking I'm gonna They're on me. I can't not commit,
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: I can't freeze. So I run up behind you. And
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: I always tell people I hit you really super hard.
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: I don't think I did, but I think I hit
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: you hard enough that you could not not sell. You
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: could not You had to know someone was at least
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: behind the registry. You had to do something. But I
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: hit you in the back and then I saw you
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: flip your hair, and you you started back pedaling again
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: in the slasher style, and you're turning. I'm oh man,
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: oh like I'm the heel now and there filming now
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: that they're on just us. It's a two shama. This
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: looks like it was a pre call. This looks like
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: the spot, but this isn't the spot I would have
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: ever prepared. And now I'm thinking, well, obviously, you just
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: sell at this point. This is an easy gig at
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: this point, not my ideal go, but just sell. He's
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: gonna goozle you whatever it may be. And you did,
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: so you goozle me. Thinking, well, here we go. I'm
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: going up and this is there. Jump as high as
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: you can, which I wish that Era would come back, Like,
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: jump as high as you can try and jump higher
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: than your buddy, all those things, right, So you goozle me,
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: but then you like kind of shaking me, and you said,
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: kick me in the knee. I kicked you in the knee,
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: and I'm thinking, all right, I have no clue. We're
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: an uncharted territory here, but you still kind of half
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: got me. And uh, he said, drop kick me. I
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: do a drop kick, thinking, oh, all right, great, I
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: drop kick you. And you took this big bump.
- 1:24:54Speaker 4: You took this big bump, and I thought, twenty one
- 1:24:58Speaker 4: years old, no clue, Like, I don't even know where
- 1:25:01Speaker 4: to get my gear from at this point, I don't
- 1:25:03Speaker 4: even know how I got called up.
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: I know I got called up. I was Dusty's son,
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: and they thought, oh, he's ready, long before I was
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: ready to go. But I'm so glad I got that
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: experience because nothing could have prepared me for anything like that.
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: But the best part is you took this great bump,
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: And in my mind I'm thinking that that that's great.
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: Undertaker's Undertaker's cool. He's the coolest, But also, what do
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: you do? It's the objective is to throw another guy out,
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: so I'm not gonna pick you up. I just kind
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: of go over to a corner and grab a leg
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: and I think you kind of came and got me
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: like hey, what's up?
- 1:25:38Speaker 2: Man?
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: Like hey, like hey, and they like to finish, like
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: you can't just drop kick me and take it by
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: and then not nothing happened. But I had nothing else
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: and it ended up being this great moment. There's a
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: really great picture and it's the garden. I got to
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: be in there for a little bit and feel it.
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: And this was the rumble where Michael Hayes was telling
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: everybody to sell for everyone. Fast forwardy years later when
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: he's like, don't sell for so what?
- 1:25:58Speaker 2: Which is it? Free bird?
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: But that was just such a great moment. Thank you,
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: by the way. That was that was really special. I
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: also the art of calling it right. Never saw it
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: just you and Hunter and the talking Carney or hair
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: in front of your mouth, whatever it was. Magic was
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: not revealed right, And I thought, that's just I got
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: so much out of it. The smallest thing.
- 1:26:20Speaker 2: Yeah, those times I would I would choose those kind
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: of instances to do things that even you, yeah, like
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: oh he's going to kill me, now he's gonna you know,
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: I just I like to create little moments like that
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: and those kind of matches that catch people off guard, right,
- 1:26:36Speaker 2: and then you know what you do with that after
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: the fact is kind of left up to you. But
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: just like people were like looking around like what the yeah,
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: what what just happened there? Right? And sometimes you know,
- 1:26:47Speaker 2: sometimes it helps, sometimes.
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: It doesn't, but it's worth taking the shot.
- 1:26:50Speaker 2: It's worth taking the shot. Sometimes it's not going to
- 1:26:52Speaker 2: hurt me, yeah, right, but what it potentially could do
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: for for you or whoever I'm doing that kind of
- 1:26:58Speaker 2: stuff with could potentially, you know, turn it into something
- 1:27:02Speaker 2: really good.
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: So that's cheers, Yes, for sure, Thank you cheers. As
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: we wrap up this wonderful speakeasy busy signal in Austin, Texas,
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: I have to ask you. We ask everybody who comes
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: from the pod. We the American vod can myself, we
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: like to consider ourselves the American dream Team. And I
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: like to ask everyone who is their dream team? And
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: I always say, it can be Zombie Apocalypse, it can
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: be Survivor series, it can be a man and his dog.
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: It's your number of people or objects or animals.
- 1:27:39Speaker 2: It's it's who's coming with you, who's coming with me?
- 1:27:43Speaker 2: And how many do I need for for for the
- 1:27:46Speaker 2: safe safe for yep, hmmm my dream team, I'm have
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: to start with my brother Caine has got my back
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: on that. So hm hmmm, I'm gonna take I'm gonna
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: take Sean with me. Oh wow, all right, Kurt Angle.
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: Okay, so no one's gonna beat this team at all? Yeah, alrighty,
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: all right.
- 1:28:24Speaker 2: We're talking like we're wrestling dream Are we talking into
- 1:28:29Speaker 2: a bar fight? Are we talking about wrestling?
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: I think in both settings this kind of is working
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: because of the fact that you have Kurt. Kurt helps, Yeah,
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: Kurt's helping a lot.
- 1:28:38Speaker 2: Yeah. We got we got Sean to get us into
- 1:28:40Speaker 2: the fight, yep. And we've got Curt to get you
- 1:28:42Speaker 2: out of paying to get us out. I need one
- 1:28:45Speaker 2: more yeah, Andre.
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: Wow, that's uh, that's the forever five on five champ
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: for We're not doing too many jobs. No, I don't
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: think you're doing any I tried to back the day,
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: my dad would have me come up with war games
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: teams in the car. He'd be like, what's your team,
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: and he'd always be it's not good, it's not good.
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: And I finally was like, what's the problem with this team?
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: Because you gotta gotta pick someone who can lose. And
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: I thought, oh, all right, all right, we'll put him
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: in there. Yeah, because I was just picking every every
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: towsome talent that's next.
- 1:29:22Speaker 2: Level thinking though, yeah, like he's he's thinking as the booker,
- 1:29:25Speaker 2: you got to be able to beat somebody here.
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: But I feel like those old war games, it was
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: so clearly JJ Dillon or Paul ellery he was. It
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: was almost like you isolated, don't get near you know
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: Paul a little bit, he's holding his ozone, but don't
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: get near JJ. There's a whole nother psychology to it,
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: like once they do the same with Bobby Heenan in
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: a lot of those settings.
- 1:29:43Speaker 2: Right here at.
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: Busy signal, I'm going to show you this Wheetley Vodka
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: jingle and I'm going to ask you to change one
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: of the words to it.
- 1:29:51Speaker 2: Here.
- 1:29:51Speaker 4: You got the moscow, always give the mute.
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: Vodka is good. As an American, you coaly so good,
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: I drink wheatle so good. I drink it neatly. If
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: you could take the word neatly and replace it with anything,
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: what would you do wheatly, so good. I drink it nightly, nightly.
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: That's perfect. Ladies and Gentlemen, Hall of Famer on what
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: do you want to talk about? And please catch part
