- 0:44you part of the fam.
- 0:45It's lunchtime.
- 0:56so apparently sema and i are like that
- 1:01was perfect dude like locked in because if
- 1:07just for behind the curtain dude like i
- 1:10don't get i can't see the chat until
- 1:12i launch the show right
- 1:15And then I can,
- 1:16after I press StreamYard to launch the
- 1:20show, play the theme song,
- 1:22do all the stuff,
- 1:23I can't see the chat.
- 1:25No, I can't.
- 1:27When all that's done,
- 1:28then I can see the chat.
- 1:30And she had said hump day at the
- 1:33same time I did.
- 1:34Yeah.
- 1:35He can't, but I can.
- 1:37And as soon as he said hump day,
- 1:39she said hump day all at the same
- 1:41time.
- 1:41That was pretty neat.
- 1:44So, yeah.
- 1:50It's fantastic.
- 1:51I knew Seema was so cool.
- 1:53I just didn't know I was as cool
- 1:55as she was.
- 1:57I mean,
- 1:57there's definitely some parallels going on
- 1:59there for certain.
- 2:01So, that was pretty cool.
- 2:03It's Wednesday, my dude.
- 2:04It is, dude, man.
- 2:07You know what?
- 2:08I got a win today.
- 2:09Oh?
- 2:11And I got a lot of losses,
- 2:12but I did get one win.
- 2:14Count your wins.
- 2:15So you see this Bears hoodie?
- 2:18I do.
- 2:19It looks like a hockey jersey.
- 2:20It kind of, yeah.
- 2:23My wife bought this for me a while
- 2:24back,
- 2:26and I've never been able to wear it.
- 2:29It's been too small for me,
- 2:30and I loved it.
- 2:31I loved it.
- 2:33And today, after my shower,
- 2:35I looked in the closet,
- 2:36and I was like, you know what?
- 2:37That's been hanging there a while,
- 2:38and I've always loved it.
- 2:41And I slid it on, and it's loose.
- 2:44Yeah,
- 2:44I say it looks like it's hanging on
- 2:46you.
- 2:47It is loose.
- 2:50And I was like,
- 2:52that's what I'm talking about.
- 2:53Dude, I love that so much.
- 2:56I love that so much.
- 2:57That's outstanding, dude.
- 2:59Look, take your wins.
- 3:01Take your wins where they come.
- 3:02And that's a big one, right?
- 3:04Because now you get to wear the thing
- 3:05that's been sitting there forever.
- 3:08right?
- 3:09Consistently putting in the work,
- 3:11doing the things,
- 3:12paying attention to what you put in your,
- 3:14in your food hole there and look at
- 3:17you like a glove, like a glove.
- 3:22And we're not talking like an OJ glove.
- 3:23We're talking like, no, no.
- 3:30Look, it doesn't fit.
- 3:31Yeah, not at all.
- 3:32No, no.
- 3:36This one just slid right on.
- 3:38Slid, baby.
- 3:39It's a beautiful thing.
- 3:43Yeah, and speaking of...
- 3:46Because we both hate our jobs.
- 3:48So I...
- 3:49We have required training we have to do
- 3:51every year.
- 3:53Like security training, like... Yeah.
- 3:57You know, don't open a scam email.
- 4:00This is what you look for.
- 4:01Oh, we get one of those.
- 4:02We get one of those about once a
- 4:03week.
- 4:05And so...
- 4:07I started those today and they're due.
- 4:10They're due Friday.
- 4:12We've had six months to do it.
- 4:15You have plenty of time.
- 4:16Launched it today because I forgot all
- 4:19about it and got the reminder email from
- 4:22the director's assistant to say, Hey,
- 4:25this is due by Friday.
- 4:28Just as a,
- 4:28just as a point of reference,
- 4:29all of these are due Friday in case
- 4:31you guys are wondering.
- 4:32Oh, thanks.
- 4:33So I finished half of them,
- 4:34but this morning, but, um,
- 4:39You know what I hate?
- 4:41And I've talked about this before.
- 4:43So two,
- 4:45three of the four modules that I had
- 4:48to do today were PowerPoints where the
- 4:52person read the entire slide.
- 4:54There was not a derivation off of what
- 4:58was on the slide one time in three
- 5:01of the four modules.
- 5:05Oh...
- 5:08I know that I don't read books anymore,
- 5:10but I can read.
- 5:12As it turns out, yeah,
- 5:13I don't need you to read the PowerPoint
- 5:15presentation to me.
- 5:17The one guy that read,
- 5:19I'm not sure his reading level was above
- 5:21a sixth grade level.
- 5:24He stuttered and stammered over every damn
- 5:27word.
- 5:28All you got to do is read it.
- 5:33I mean, at that point,
- 5:34why the hell can't I just read it
- 5:38myself?
- 5:42Death by PowerPoint, amen.
- 5:43Control F, take the test.
- 5:45SEMA, they have locked that out.
- 5:47You have to sit through the whole damn
- 5:53thing.
- 5:55Because that's what we used to do.
- 5:57I mean,
- 5:57I've been with the state almost twenty
- 5:59five years.
- 6:00I have taken these same trainings every
- 6:02year of my tenure with the state.
- 6:05In case you had forgotten.
- 6:06The questions haven't changed.
- 6:09And then back a few years ago before
- 6:11they locked it out,
- 6:12I just go to the test, take it,
- 6:14pass it, move on.
- 6:16Going about your business.
- 6:18What kills me about stuff like that is
- 6:20that you've taken the exact same thing,
- 6:23exact same training for, like you said,
- 6:25the last twenty five years.
- 6:27So at some point,
- 6:29you think I might have gotten hit?
- 6:31Like,
- 6:31do I really need to refresh on this
- 6:32again?
- 6:33Like for the twenty fourth time?
- 6:36Probably not.
- 6:37Like,
- 6:37I think I got a hold of it.
- 6:38I'm doing a pretty good job.
- 6:39You haven't fired me from for missing any
- 6:42of this stuff yet or going against any
- 6:43of this stuff.
- 6:44So I think I'm doing OK.
- 6:46Now,
- 6:47have phishing and scam emails changed over
- 6:50the last few years?
- 6:51Sure.
- 6:52Absolutely.
- 6:53Make me read the update.
- 6:56Yeah, and I'll go on.
- 6:57And then move on.
- 6:59We get emails sent to us.
- 7:04And if we identify it as being a
- 7:07phishing email, they go, congratulations,
- 7:10you just found a phishing email.
- 7:12Don't tell your coworkers.
- 7:14And as soon as one of us,
- 7:15because there's only eleven people that
- 7:16work here,
- 7:17as soon as one of us finds one,
- 7:19we just text the group.
- 7:20Hey, there's a scam email in your inbox.
- 7:24Don't click on it or just report it
- 7:26as phishing.
- 7:26And we just go on about our day.
- 7:29Yeah, they send those out to us too,
- 7:32the test,
- 7:33to see if you're going to fall for
- 7:35it.
- 7:36I've fallen for one in twenty-five years.
- 7:40Do we still have to keep doing this,
- 7:41play this game?
- 7:42I am batting a thousand.
- 7:46I would be getting, what's his name?
- 7:49Was that the baseball player that's
- 7:51getting like eight billion dollars a year
- 7:52or whatever?
- 7:53I'd be getting like his kind of money
- 7:54because I'm batting a thousand,
- 7:57have not failed one yet,
- 7:58and they still keep sending them to me.
- 8:02Yeah, it's ridiculous.
- 8:03And so I have half of it done.
- 8:05I have to do the other half this
- 8:06afternoon or tomorrow or hell, Friday.
- 8:12It's due Friday.
- 8:13I could just wait till Friday.
- 8:15I don't see why you wouldn't.
- 8:17Scott,
- 8:19I've been knowing that my L-II was going
- 8:20to be on Sunday for quite some time
- 8:25now, like the in-person part of it.
- 8:27And I haven't even printed out the
- 8:30handbook.
- 8:31As it turns out,
- 8:32I'm just kind of going with the flow.
- 8:34I think I'm going to be all right.
- 8:38The first time I took my L-I...
- 8:40and I know they do it differently now,
- 8:43but like this was,
- 8:46I took my L one.
- 8:47Uh,
- 8:48and then you did the two days and
- 8:50you took the test at the end of
- 8:51the two days right there in front of
- 8:52everybody.
- 8:53They had an a and a B version
- 8:55of the test.
- 8:56So the person besides you didn't have the
- 8:58same test, all that it,
- 9:02when I was done,
- 9:03I was not sure I knew which end
- 9:05was up.
- 9:05Oh yeah.
- 9:08It was hard.
- 9:10And I'm a good test taker.
- 9:14good test taker i'm an excellent text like
- 9:18standardized tests although that variety i
- 9:22have knocked out of the park since i
- 9:23was in since i started taking them when
- 9:26we did the california achievement test
- 9:28back in the day when i was like
- 9:30in third grade or whatever i've been
- 9:31knocking those out of the park and it
- 9:32it's just carried over my entire life when
- 9:35i was running the crane and had to
- 9:37take my certifications for that pass it on
- 9:39the first try like i've never had to
- 9:40go back
- 9:42And be like, oh, I feel this stuff.
- 9:43No, dude,
- 9:45like I knocked out every time the first
- 9:49time.
- 9:49Seema and I are not.
- 9:51I take that back.
- 9:53If I had ten thousand unopened emails in
- 9:55my box,
- 9:57I would go into a full out panic
- 9:59attack.
- 10:00Yeah.
- 10:01Mine doesn't even hold ours.
- 10:03We got a notification a couple of years
- 10:04ago that like, Hey,
- 10:06if you have stuff that's in there,
- 10:07that's just not read for whatever reason,
- 10:09you just skip over it and blah, blah,
- 10:10blah, whatever.
- 10:11Once it gets to a certain number,
- 10:12it's just go auto delete them for you.
- 10:14You don't have to worry about it.
- 10:15I was like, thanks.
- 10:19If I get like the little green bubble
- 10:21on an app on my phone,
- 10:23I lose my mind.
- 10:24Oh yeah.
- 10:25Yeah.
- 10:26don't know well here's the thing so here's
- 10:27a life hack in case you didn't you
- 10:29can turn those off i don't know if
- 10:33anybody had told you but like the only
- 10:35notifications i get
- 10:37Or for individual text messages.
- 10:40So if my wife texts me,
- 10:41if you text me, if Joseph texts me,
- 10:44like any group text I get into immediately
- 10:49gets muted.
- 10:50So I don't have four billion notifications
- 10:52because like one of them I was I'm
- 10:54in with a bunch of Masters athletes.
- 10:57I got put in earlier this year before
- 10:59we went to semifinals.
- 11:03Somebody came in after we had been having
- 11:05a conversation.
- 11:06This was like late last week,
- 11:08sometimes said, thanks, guys.
- 11:09Two hundred eleven notifications.
- 11:10Appreciate that because it just they keep
- 11:13stacking up.
- 11:15If I if that popped up on my
- 11:16phone, I would lose my mind completely.
- 11:18Like there's no way I don't need all
- 11:19of that shit.
- 11:19I can't my my my OCD,
- 11:22my whatever you want to call it,
- 11:23can't deal with all of that shit clearing
- 11:25up my phone.
- 11:25It needs to go away.
- 11:28i'm on a group text with my wife
- 11:30her best friend and my best friend because
- 11:32our best friends are married and uh there
- 11:36was a time where every time i would
- 11:38come down to the sunday night show my
- 11:40wife and her best friend would just start
- 11:42chatting back and forth on text right in
- 11:45there in the group text
- 11:48and i get off of like the sunday
- 11:50night show and i'd have a hundred and
- 11:52fifty notifications yeah do y'all need me
- 12:03for any of this because it doesn't seem
- 12:05like this has anything to do with me
- 12:07why am i in the whole show i've
- 12:09got like
- 12:15Really?
- 12:21I use AI agents to provide a daily
- 12:23brief of emails I need to respond to
- 12:25and correct using the Minto method of
- 12:28communication saves me a massive amount of
- 12:31time.
- 12:32The Freshmaker?
- 12:33Okay, Stephen Covey.
- 12:34Yeah.
- 12:37Like the Freshmaker Mentos,
- 12:39that kind of method of communication.
- 12:41You just hand somebody a mint and call
- 12:42it good.
- 12:43A chewy mint, by the way.
- 12:45Or you put them in a... Oh,
- 12:46maybe he just puts them all in a
- 12:48Diet Coke bottle and then watches them
- 12:49explode up into the...
- 12:50That seems like a pretty effective...
- 12:53Do you like a chewy mint?
- 12:58This is probably going to be a hot
- 12:59take.
- 13:00So here we go.
- 13:02Not a huge fan of chewy mints,
- 13:04but the soft peppermints are better than
- 13:08hard peppermints.
- 13:13That's a hot take.
- 13:15I figured it would be.
- 13:17So my whole life,
- 13:18it's either been gum or mints.
- 13:21Sure.
- 13:22They don't need to combine.
- 13:24Yeah.
- 13:25If I want a chewy,
- 13:27I get like a spearmint or peppermint gum.
- 13:30Yeah.
- 13:30I don't want, I don't want to,
- 13:32I just like soft mints better than I
- 13:34do hard mints.
- 13:35I don't know.
- 13:36Maybe that's not, it's probably a bad,
- 13:38probably a hot, hot.
- 13:39Oh, look, Terry's with me.
- 13:41You are keeping Mentos around forever,
- 13:43man.
- 13:44Look, Terry's with me.
- 13:45Mark Phillips is with,
- 13:46I knew Mark Phillips was going to be
- 13:47with me.
- 13:48Me and I do see right here.
- 13:49I didn't,
- 13:55i don't know dude like the soft ones
- 13:56you can kind of it's because they're not
- 13:58chewy they're just soft and they'll
- 14:00dissolve in your mouth as opposed to just
- 14:02sucking on a peppermint freaking two hours
- 14:03until it becomes a tiny sharp sliver that
- 14:06you can cut your damn tongue on
- 14:09Now,
- 14:10the soft mints that melt in your mouth,
- 14:13I'm okay with those.
- 14:14That's what I'm talking about.
- 14:15I don't want a minto.
- 14:17Right.
- 14:17Mentos are chewy.
- 14:18I don't want chewy mints.
- 14:20I don't want chewy mints.
- 14:21To me,
- 14:23that defeats the purpose of having an
- 14:25actual mint because you're just going to
- 14:26chew it up and it's going to go
- 14:27away.
- 14:27You're supposed to hold them in your mouth
- 14:30until it completely dissolves,
- 14:32which is why I like the soft peppermints
- 14:34more than a hard candy peppermint.
- 14:40Joseph, stop.
- 14:46Yeah.
- 14:46I heard someone say candy corn is like,
- 14:50I can't remember what he was comparing it
- 14:52to,
- 14:52but he said it just shows up whether
- 14:54you want it or not.
- 14:56A hundred percent.
- 14:56A hundred percent.
- 14:58There will be candy corn at my house
- 15:00Sunday.
- 15:00I'm well aware of that after we go
- 15:02trick or treating Saturday night.
- 15:04It's not going to last because nobody at
- 15:06my house eats it.
- 15:09My mom and I were talking the other
- 15:10night.
- 15:11I grew up beside a general store.
- 15:14I grew up in the middle of nowhere.
- 15:16Still, my mom does not get cell service.
- 15:18I've seen the pictures behind Scott's
- 15:20house.
- 15:20Scott's mom's house.
- 15:21He's not lying.
- 15:24but down the street is a general store
- 15:26and basically what kept it in business
- 15:28forever were um wildcat oil drillers
- 15:32because western pennsylvania has like the
- 15:35purest oil in the world and so they
- 15:38could get premium money for oil and stuff
- 15:41in that area and so she would like
- 15:43the lady that owned the store i think
- 15:45she was a hundred and seventy two when
- 15:46she died probably still had a forty four
- 15:49magnum under the counter of the register
- 15:52You can never be too careful.
- 15:54But she would make sandwiches and sell
- 15:56them to the guys,
- 15:58and she would sell coffee and all that
- 16:00stuff.
- 16:00They'd come in, get their coffee,
- 16:01buy a sandwich for lunch, and take off.
- 16:03And she – booming business.
- 16:05But she had a candy counter.
- 16:08Like a real candy counter.
- 16:09Yeah, like candy counter.
- 16:11And you would come in and just say
- 16:13– hand her like a quarter and say,
- 16:15give me a mixed bag.
- 16:17And when I was a kid,
- 16:18it was a penny a piece.
- 16:19Oh, yeah.
- 16:21Unless you got the premium thing like the
- 16:23candy cigarettes or the bubblegum cigar or
- 16:29the sixlets.
- 16:30Sixlets were more expensive for some
- 16:31reason.
- 16:32Because sixlets were knockoff M&M's.
- 16:38Just put in a tube.
- 16:39Yeah.
- 16:40Yeah.
- 16:46Trying not to laugh mid... Front squat.
- 16:49Front squat set when Corey said the
- 16:51peppermint slice that will cut your
- 16:53tongue.
- 16:55I bet you know what I'm talking about,
- 16:56though, Amanda.
- 17:01The general store on the Oregon Trail.
- 17:02Pretty much.
- 17:04Yeah.
- 17:04Without diet or dysentery.
- 17:08But...
- 17:10we were just talking about how,
- 17:11like how cool it was.
- 17:12You just hand her a quarter and she
- 17:13would just go into candy counter and pull
- 17:16out a couple of these couple of those.
- 17:18Yeah.
- 17:18And I don't even think she counted
- 17:20probably like for the kids.
- 17:21Like she just, um, you look,
- 17:24you need this many.
- 17:25Here you go.
- 17:26Move on.
- 17:28But like one of my favorite candies as
- 17:29a kid was,
- 17:30were gummy things like Swedish fish,
- 17:32gummy bears, but she sold gummy hats.
- 17:36I'm sorry.
- 17:38Who thought,
- 17:40That a gummy hat was like...
- 17:43Was it actual size?
- 17:45No, no, no.
- 17:47No,
- 17:48it was like a gummy nickel with like
- 17:51a little bump on the top.
- 17:53Yeah, and they just called it a hat.
- 17:55That's probably along the lines of what we
- 17:56were talking about last week,
- 17:57week before last, whatever,
- 17:58when the candy pumpkins,
- 18:01like they were making gummy something else
- 18:04and then just had these leftovers.
- 18:05Like, what do these look like?
- 18:06I don't know.
- 18:06It kind of looks like a hat.
- 18:07Cool.
- 18:08Let's sell them as gummy hats and put
- 18:09them in a bag and called it good.
- 18:11But I think in this case,
- 18:13because I'm so old,
- 18:14there weren't gummy bears when I was a
- 18:15kid.
- 18:17I don't ever remember seeing gummy bears.
- 18:20I didn't see any Swedish fish until I
- 18:22was an adult.
- 18:24So we had Swedish fish when I was
- 18:26a kid.
- 18:27I think the one and only time I
- 18:28went to an Ikea store is the first
- 18:30time I saw Swedish fish because they had
- 18:32somebody register.
- 18:35I think the gummy hats were the precursor
- 18:38to the gummy.
- 18:38Like, let's drop it.
- 18:41And then when you lifted up the thing,
- 18:43it left a little bump.
- 18:44Oh, it looks like a hat.
- 18:46Yeah.
- 18:47There you go.
- 18:48And then over time, they said, oh,
- 18:49we could put these in molds and we
- 18:52can make bears and snakes and rats and
- 18:55whatever else.
- 18:56All the other stuff.
- 18:56Worms.
- 18:57Probably worms.
- 18:58Not so much snakes.
- 18:59I think gummy worms is probably a
- 19:00precursor to gummy snakes.
- 19:03The Swedish fish are probably...
- 19:08So my best friend, oh, well,
- 19:11Benoit Wagaspak, two sons, okay,
- 19:14when I was now in college, actually,
- 19:16they're both now in college,
- 19:17when I'm just graduated,
- 19:17when I was about a sophomore or junior,
- 19:20he's a sophomore.
- 19:20Anyway, they both had braces.
- 19:22They're like two years apart.
- 19:24Well, when Ross got braces,
- 19:26Luke got braces.
- 19:27When Luke got his braces off,
- 19:28Benoit got braces at fifty-two years old
- 19:32or whatever he was.
- 19:34I just remember him coming into the gym
- 19:36one day and he's just
- 19:39And I'm like, what are you doing?
- 19:40He said,
- 19:40I ate a sandwich earlier and I'm still
- 19:42fucking eating it because all the shit
- 19:45that was still would just get stuck in
- 19:46his teeth.
- 19:48oh man so wait as soon as she's
- 19:50you know olive said swedish fish are
- 19:53probably still stuck in your teeth that's
- 19:54the first thing that came to mind i'm
- 19:55like man i can't even imagine my
- 19:57daughter's got braces right now and i'll
- 20:00see her doing that kind of stuff and
- 20:01like every once in a while she's eight
- 20:03so it's like hey bro go brush your
- 20:04teeth get ready for bed all that good
- 20:06stuff she's supposed to floss every night
- 20:07like they got this fancy floss thing for
- 20:10and all that
- 20:11some nights she'll go brush her teeth and
- 20:13come back and get like you know about
- 20:15to go do her nighttime stuff and i'm
- 20:17talking to her for a second i'm like
- 20:18did you brush your teeth and she's like
- 20:21yeah i was like i'm gonna need you
- 20:21to go do that again because you clearly
- 20:24missed some stuff that's stuck in them
- 20:25braces somewhere that means you'll take
- 20:28care of that uh sugar babies and sugar
- 20:31daddies uh were a dentist trip yeah
- 20:35It's the stickiest thing.
- 20:36Like you could use that to hold together
- 20:38the space shuttle as it's coming back in
- 20:39from orbit.
- 20:41It would pull out a filling from nineteen
- 20:42seventy six.
- 20:43Absolutely.
- 20:44Absolutely.
- 20:47They were good, though.
- 20:48I like sugar babies.
- 20:50My childhood dentist used to give us a
- 20:51coupon for free ice cream cone.
- 20:53Brilliant.
- 20:55Anything that has chocolate and like hard
- 20:58caramel or toffee, I will hurt myself.
- 21:02If I'm if if like you're going to
- 21:04reason.
- 21:05Chocolate reason?
- 21:06Yeah.
- 21:08I will hurt myself if given the
- 21:12opportunity.
- 21:14It's not a good thing.
- 21:16Barry with the cow tails.
- 21:18So you had the cow tails and the
- 21:19bullseye, which were the same thing,
- 21:21only the bullseyes were the cow tails cut.
- 21:25Is it?
- 21:26I have no idea.
- 21:28So cow's tail is caramel with the cream
- 21:31filling in the middle,
- 21:32but it's like a tail.
- 21:33Got it.
- 21:34The bullseye is cut into circles and it's
- 21:37flipped on its side, put in a package,
- 21:40and it's the same thing.
- 21:41Yeah,
- 21:41we cut it up for you and put
- 21:42it in a different bag.
- 21:44So the bullseyes are just the bite-sized
- 21:46version of the cow tail.
- 21:48That's fantastic.
- 21:52Swedish fish were a penny at my little
- 21:54store growing up.
- 21:55They were a penny at mine too.
- 21:58I still love Swedish fish to this day.
- 22:01Mike likes and Swedish fish are like goat.
- 22:09Yeah.
- 22:10I tried it, dude.
- 22:13No, that didn't do it for me.
- 22:15I don't know the difference.
- 22:17Like,
- 22:17I don't know enough about Swedish fish to
- 22:19take a sip of a Swedish fish flavored
- 22:21ghost and be like, Oh yeah.
- 22:23Now we'll say this.
- 22:24I found the A&W root beer ghost this
- 22:26morning when I stopped before I went,
- 22:29I went and coach and it tastes just
- 22:31like A&W root beer.
- 22:33You know what the best way to drink
- 22:35A&W root beer is?
- 22:37Probably not.
- 22:39If I'm guessing.
- 22:39Pop the top and then dump it down
- 22:41the drain.
- 22:43They don't make it in Barks, dude.
- 22:44I don't know what to tell you.
- 22:47Root beer, period.
- 22:50I don't get it.
- 22:52You made the root beer barrel candy.
- 22:54I don't like that.
- 22:56It's a shitty soda,
- 22:57and now you make it into a candy?
- 22:59I will say this.
- 23:00I don't like root beer candy at all.
- 23:04Root beer flavored dum-dums,
- 23:05the root beer barrels that you'd get at
- 23:07Christmas time,
- 23:08at Halloween time sometime.
- 23:10No, thank you.
- 23:12Okay.
- 23:14If it's not chocolate, I don't want it.
- 23:15Never been a gummy candy person.
- 23:17Kate, I thought we were friends.
- 23:23Yeah, fun dip.
- 23:24I would do lines of fun dip.
- 23:26Oh, I am forty nine years old.
- 23:28I will fight somebody for some fun dip.
- 23:31What is that?
- 23:31It's flavored sugar.
- 23:33Yeah.
- 23:34And we're going to give you a chalk
- 23:36stick of chalk to lick and have it
- 23:39stick the dip.
- 23:43A++, the chalk stick delivery method.
- 23:48Delivery method needs a little bit of
- 23:50work.
- 23:50Delivery method needs a little bit of
- 23:52work.
- 23:53Holy smokes, dude.
- 23:55Yeah,
- 23:55I would still fight with somebody for some
- 23:58– and would still use their horrible
- 24:00delivery method to get it instead of
- 24:02pouring it in my mouth.
- 24:04Holy smokes.
- 24:05It was a D minus delivery method.
- 24:07I still used it.
- 24:08Yeah.
- 24:08Oh, absolutely.
- 24:10Absolutely.
- 24:10Because if you're not going to use it,
- 24:12you might as well just get a pixie
- 24:14stick.
- 24:14Get a pixie stick.
- 24:15It would be the same thing.
- 24:16Cut a pixie stick open.
- 24:19But we used to – oh, man.
- 24:23I shudder to think about how much just
- 24:24pure sugar I ingested as a child behind
- 24:27Pixie Stix and Fun Dip because those are
- 24:29probably two of my favorite things at a
- 24:31time.
- 24:31And believe it or not,
- 24:33so I know I just said sixlets were
- 24:35knockoff M&Ms, which they are.
- 24:39Anybody who tells me I'm wrong is wrong.
- 24:42And I preferred them to M&Ms most of
- 24:44the time because they were round and not
- 24:46flat.
- 24:47Oh, and it's proportion.
- 24:47It is.
- 24:48It's more candy shell to the chocolate.
- 24:51It is.
- 24:52Absolutely.
- 24:54Yeah, the candy dots on wax paper.
- 24:56Dots.
- 24:57I ate more paper than dots.
- 24:59Yes.
- 25:00That was the dumbest delivery method.
- 25:04We're going to put these on a scribble
- 25:06wax paper.
- 25:09Just hand them out to children.
- 25:13Joseph asked earlier on if I had ever
- 25:17eaten three pounds of gummy bears in one
- 25:19sitting.
- 25:21I don't remember that day,
- 25:22but I am sure.
- 25:23I am sure that it happened.
- 25:27I used to weigh over five hundred pounds
- 25:30and I love gummy fruity candy.
- 25:33I am sure that a three pound bag
- 25:36of gummy bears was destroyed in one day
- 25:39before.
- 25:40And so somebody else was saying something
- 25:41about now and laters and how like you
- 25:44eat some now and it's still in your
- 25:45teeth later or whatnot.
- 25:46That's another one that if it still had
- 25:48the paper on it, I didn't care.
- 25:50I ate that and the paper that it
- 25:51was still attached to.
- 25:52It did not bother me in the least
- 25:53when it came to now and laters.
- 25:57The other one you ate a ton of
- 25:58paper is the bit of honey.
- 26:00Well, you couldn't help it.
- 26:01It was also stuck to like,
- 26:02it was anytime you go to unwrap it
- 26:06and like it's folded up underneath the
- 26:08wrappers folded up underneath a piece of
- 26:10the actual candy.
- 26:12That's a problem that you're not going to
- 26:13be able to get around.
- 26:14So you just soon just go ahead and
- 26:16knock it down.
- 26:18And that's another dentist trip.
- 26:21Yeah.
- 26:21Oh God.
- 26:22Yeah.
- 26:24Easily, easily.
- 26:25Joseph said I did it once in two
- 26:27thousand one again.
- 26:31When I first started competing in
- 26:34CrossFit, like going to, you know,
- 26:36one day comps, three workouts, whatever.
- 26:39I was the guy.
- 26:40I had all the fucking snacks.
- 26:41Like I needed all this extra sugar to
- 26:44do three workouts in one day.
- 26:46So I rolled up.
- 26:47I go tell my wife, babe,
- 26:49we got to go stop by the store.
- 26:50I got to get like a giant bag
- 26:52of gummy worms or gummy bears or whatever
- 26:54to be able to.
- 26:55I need a whole thing of Haribo to
- 26:56make it through this.
- 26:58one day three workout competition like oh
- 27:03my word please don't do that uh scott
- 27:12keeps bringing up the straight grandpa
- 27:13candies that collect sweater lint while
- 27:16sitting in pockets no no come on kate
- 27:21like those are the butterscotches and the
- 27:25root bear barrels and
- 27:28The strawberry looking thing.
- 27:29Oh, yeah.
- 27:30Whatever that candy was.
- 27:33Whatever that is.
- 27:33Not at the dollar store.
- 27:36You go to your grandma's house.
- 27:37Here's a lemon.
- 27:39Yeah.
- 27:40No name.
- 27:40We have no idea what it is.
- 27:42You go to your grandma's house and there's
- 27:45like a bowl of them and you have
- 27:47no idea what they came from.
- 27:49I am forty nine years old.
- 27:50I've got.
- 27:51three children total, one grown,
- 27:54one fixing to move out,
- 27:55one who's eight years old.
- 27:56And I cannot remember ever going buy candy
- 27:58and be like, oh,
- 27:59let me get some of those strawberry things
- 28:01because I've never seen them for purchase
- 28:03in a store.
- 28:07They just appear in old ladies' purses.
- 28:10I think once you get to a certain
- 28:11age, they just drop them off.
- 28:13Big strawberry candy just drops them off
- 28:18at a lady's house.
- 28:19And you're like, here,
- 28:19I need you to put these in the
- 28:20candy dish.
- 28:21It's actually in the shape of a
- 28:22strawberry.
- 28:23Yeah.
- 28:24Or a lemon.
- 28:26Whatever.
- 28:30I think you order them from AARP.
- 28:32Probably.
- 28:33That makes sense, man.
- 28:36Oh, what's up, Pat?
- 28:40I don't even remember what I was going
- 28:43to say.
- 28:44Seema says she's got four of them at
- 28:45the bottom of her purse right now.
- 28:50And Kate,
- 28:52I reserve my pockets for jerky only.
- 28:55That's it.
- 28:55Pocket jerky, Scott.
- 28:56Pocket jerky.
- 28:58Scott's carrying pocket food.
- 28:59It's pocket jerky.
- 29:02No pocket taco.
- 29:03It's easy.
- 29:03It's dehydrated.
- 29:04It gets me some protein.
- 29:06I say it's protein.
- 29:07It's somewhat good for you.
- 29:08Probably.
- 29:13Oh, what the hell?
- 29:19Anyway,
- 29:19Megan says when she gets to be at,
- 29:22she's going to let you know where to
- 29:23get them.
- 29:27Appreciate that Megan.
- 29:31Oh, man.
- 29:33Wild Bill's beef jerky in the round tin.
- 29:35Yeah.
- 29:35Yeah,
- 29:36because we don't want to promote chewing
- 29:38snuff.
- 29:38But here,
- 29:39let's shred up some beef jerky and put
- 29:41it in a round can.
- 29:42Or big league chew.
- 29:44Let's put bubble gum in a chewing tobacco
- 29:47pouch and call it good because we don't
- 29:49want kids.
- 29:50And then put it right beside the candy
- 29:52cigarettes and the bubble gum cigars.
- 29:55I used to,
- 29:56I used to smoke so many candy cigarettes
- 29:57when I was a kid.
- 29:58It's not even funny.
- 29:59And I,
- 30:01I'm glad you also said about the bubble
- 30:03gum cigars.
- 30:04Cause I have,
- 30:05I remember those now that you mentioned it
- 30:07and I'm like, but you were supposed to,
- 30:08it was a whole,
- 30:09the whole thing was gum.
- 30:10Yeah.
- 30:11So like chew all of that at one
- 30:13time.
- 30:13So now you got to bite a piece
- 30:15off of it and then we'll save the
- 30:16rest for later.
- 30:17I guess, you know,
- 30:18you're telling me that you as a kid
- 30:20didn't say, but, but I can't,
- 30:23but I can.
- 30:24Oh, I've tried some.
- 30:28Sure.
- 30:34I remember getting a bag of Bigley Chew
- 30:36and seeing how much gum I could chew
- 30:38at once because that was the easiest way
- 30:40to do it because those bags were huge.
- 30:42That was a lot of gum.
- 30:47My grandma going,
- 30:47what the hell are you doing?
- 30:49I'm just chewing some gum.
- 30:51Drooling and shit having to come out of
- 30:53there.
- 30:54Joseph almost choked to death on some
- 30:56great big league chew and little league.
- 30:58It may have been the entire pack.
- 30:59Entirely possible.
- 31:05Wayne,
- 31:06I can smell green apple Jolly Ranchers
- 31:07from a mile away.
- 31:10Jolly Ranchers may be my favorite candy of
- 31:14all time.
- 31:15Did you used to put them in Zima
- 31:17back in the day?
- 31:18No.
- 31:20No.
- 31:20Because I was older than twelve.
- 31:23And I was not female.
- 31:24I was about to say,
- 31:25because you were not a chick.
- 31:26Is that why?
- 31:26That's mostly why.
- 31:31But you had the two forms of Jolly
- 31:32Ranchers.
- 31:33You had the little nuggets,
- 31:35and then you had the long, flat strips.
- 31:39I don't see,
- 31:40I know those I've seen those,
- 31:42but it's been so long, dude.
- 31:44Like I can't smell a green Jolly,
- 31:47but I got to the point when I
- 31:51initially went from two down to like one.
- 31:56To where, cause I was drinking so many,
- 31:58that's when energy drinks first started
- 31:59becoming like real popular.
- 32:00Right.
- 32:00And I would drink all of them.
- 32:01The full sugar, full throttle,
- 32:02like whatever it was.
- 32:03Well,
- 32:03once I knocked all of that shit out,
- 32:04right.
- 32:04So I actually started paying just when I
- 32:06eat,
- 32:06if you open a full sugar drink next
- 32:07to me or in my general vicinity,
- 32:07especially one of those,
- 32:08I could smell it from probably, probably,
- 32:09probably, probably, probably, probably,
- 32:10probably, probably, probably, probably,
- 32:10probably, probably, probably, probably,
- 32:11probably, probably, probably, probably,
- 32:13probably, probably, probably, probably,
- 32:14probably, probably, probably, probably,
- 32:15probably, probably, probably, probably,
- 32:15probably, probably, probably, probably,
- 32:16probably, probably, probably, probably,
- 32:17probably, probably, probably, probably,
- 32:18probably, probably, probably, probably,
- 32:19probably, probably, probably, probably,
- 32:20probably, probably, probably, probably,
- 32:20probably, probably, probably, probably,
- 32:21probably, probably, probably, probably,
- 32:22probably, probably, probably,
- 32:23probably
- 32:25uh they still make zima i don't think
- 32:27so probably when i was bouncing in the
- 32:32bar it was they were the the rage
- 32:35in the mid-nineties and when i started
- 32:38going out and trying to make it a
- 32:39comeback in like it wasn't that long ago
- 32:42yeah or i felt like it went that
- 32:43long because i remember people talking
- 32:45about it and saying i'm gonna have to
- 32:46go get some more jolly ranchers um i
- 32:49remember when i first started going out
- 32:52like in
- 32:54Going out to actual bars and whatnot.
- 32:57That was the first time I remember ever
- 32:59seeing it.
- 33:00It certainly wasn't at my parents' house.
- 33:02My dad drank Miller Lite.
- 33:04Still does.
- 33:05That's it.
- 33:07I've had Zima's.
- 33:08I've had a Zima, too.
- 33:11But I never put a Jolly Rancher in
- 33:13it.
- 33:13If we put anything in it,
- 33:15it was liquor.
- 33:16Like a shot of Midori or a shot
- 33:19of Blue Syracuse or something like that.
- 33:24Yes, Hobart in the mid-eighteen hundreds.
- 33:26That's when that was.
- 33:29Now, is this fake Hobart or real Hobart?
- 33:32I think it's fake Hobart.
- 33:34That is James Hobart.
- 33:36Because there's a fake Hobart going around
- 33:38in all the chats.
- 33:39It actually says fake Hobart on it,
- 33:40though.
- 33:41That's an actual James Hobart.
- 33:43Because there's no picture of Hobart in
- 33:46the thing.
- 33:47And I think that's the difference.
- 33:50No work computer.
- 33:51That's actually James Hobart.
- 33:52Oh, all right.
- 33:57Oh Lord.
- 33:59I know you're old.
- 33:59If I introduced myself and someone says
- 34:01like Zima, the beer, was it beer?
- 34:10No,
- 34:12I don't really wouldn't tell me what it
- 34:14is.
- 34:14Cause I have no, it's a malt beverage.
- 34:20Hold on.
- 34:25I'm looking it up.
- 34:25Zima is a clear, lightly carbonated,
- 34:27alcoholic malt beverage created by the
- 34:29Coors Brewing Company.
- 34:33Cousin,
- 34:33I would drink seventeen Zima before I have
- 34:36another shot of Malort.
- 34:39And I quit drinking.
- 34:41Especially from a random guy carrying a
- 34:43football at a party.
- 34:44Mm-mm.
- 34:49Yeah.
- 34:50Which was better,
- 34:52Bartles and James or Zima?
- 34:55Well,
- 34:55Bartles and James had various flavors,
- 34:57so I would go with Zima because it
- 34:59had one, which was clear,
- 35:01which is why people put whatever.
- 35:04It had no flavor.
- 35:05No.
- 35:05It just was clear.
- 35:07It tasted like malt beverage.
- 35:11Essentially,
- 35:12Bartles and James put the Jolly Rancher in
- 35:15the bottle for you.
- 35:16Yes, absolutely.
- 35:16Absolutely.
- 35:19Oh,
- 35:20Zim was made by charcoal filtering a
- 35:22low-grade lager to strip away its amber
- 35:24color and beer flavor,
- 35:26and then adding a citrus slash lemon-lime
- 35:28taste.
- 35:29Yeah.
- 35:34I don't know, man.
- 35:36Hold on.
- 35:38The clear craze.
- 35:39It became a cultural symbol of the
- 35:49That whole crystal Pepsi thing.
- 35:51Because marketing people tried to tell you
- 35:53that the caramels that colored different
- 35:56soft drinks were bad for you.
- 36:00Yeah.
- 36:01So it was just a scam.
- 36:04It was a fishing expedition to get you
- 36:07to buy clear liquids and a new product
- 36:09that they could make.
- 36:12except nobody reported fishing back then
- 36:14because they didn't send it to you in
- 36:15an email, which I'm glad.
- 36:16If I got a Zima through email,
- 36:20I'd probably be pretty upset about it.
- 36:24I didn't drink regular Pepsi, much less,
- 36:27give me the one that's clear.
- 36:28No, I'm good.
- 36:30I'm good.
- 36:30Try it quick.
- 36:31I mean,
- 36:31of course I tried it back then.
- 36:35I just didn't like Pepsi, period.
- 36:37Now, having said that,
- 36:38my grandma would buy RC Cola.
- 36:41have it at the house and i was
- 36:43supposed to drink that because don't drink
- 36:45her cokes because her cokes are her cokes
- 36:47but here i bought you something that was
- 36:49pretty close to that and it's rc cola
- 36:51and i'd be like this is terrible i'm
- 36:53not drinking either one of these it's a
- 36:57lot sweeter than the others rc rc i
- 36:59don't know i haven't had a i think
- 37:05i had one of my wife's uh dr
- 37:08pepper zeros in like march
- 37:13One day,
- 37:13just cause I had a hankering for it
- 37:15and she has to happen to have some,
- 37:16and she had the little cans and I
- 37:17was like,
- 37:17I just haven't had anything like this in
- 37:19forever.
- 37:19And that was enough.
- 37:20I'm good.
- 37:22My, my, my,
- 37:23my carbonated drink of choice usually
- 37:25comes in a can.
- 37:26Looks like this either got ghost gorilla
- 37:28mind or C four written on it.
- 37:31Yeah,
- 37:32I really love the C-IV Jolly Rancher
- 37:34flavors.
- 37:34Back to that.
- 37:35Because they take liquid Jolly Rancher.
- 37:37They got those flavors nailed down.
- 37:40Shout out to C-IV.
- 37:42That stuff is amazing.
- 37:43If y'all want to sponsor this show again,
- 37:45I would gladly make another palette like
- 37:47Scott sent me the last time.
- 37:52We are thirty eight minutes into this
- 37:54podcast and not one thing on my list
- 37:57has been talked about.
- 37:59That's fair.
- 38:00That's fair.
- 38:00What's on the list?
- 38:02Let's hit it.
- 38:05Well,
- 38:05I don't even know if I want to
- 38:07get into any of this stuff now,
- 38:08but you see all these like Callum Marsh
- 38:15stuff out there with the glass box.
- 38:18Yeah.
- 38:19Am I being,
- 38:20I want to know from you,
- 38:22am I being petty?
- 38:23Okay.
- 38:25Because you reached out to me and asked
- 38:26if you could come on the show.
- 38:28Really?
- 38:29And I said,
- 38:31I don't know how I'd have on your
- 38:32show because I haven't read your book.
- 38:34Yeah, which seems to be fair.
- 38:37And he said, well,
- 38:39I hear you don't read,
- 38:41which means he listened to the show.
- 38:45Or at the very least has seen that
- 38:46clip.
- 38:48And I said, well,
- 38:52but I would read the book if I
- 38:54had it.
- 38:54And this was before it was released.
- 38:58Right.
- 38:59He said, oh,
- 39:00I'll have my publisher send you one.
- 39:03I said, cool.
- 39:04I said, when I read it,
- 39:06I'd more than gladly have you on.
- 39:08Absolutely.
- 39:10Never got the book.
- 39:12I'm shocked.
- 39:14Can you tell?
- 39:17But everybody else got theirs.
- 39:20Of course they did.
- 39:22So, is it worth being petty over?
- 39:26Yes.
- 39:29I am Tom Petty when it comes to
- 39:30shit like that, dude.
- 39:31Like...
- 39:33First of all,
- 39:34you're going to approach me about coming
- 39:36on my show, right?
- 39:38Which is not generally how that's done on
- 39:41anybody's show, right?
- 39:42Can you imagine me reaching out to anybody
- 39:44and be like, hey,
- 39:45I want to come on your show and
- 39:47talk about stuff.
- 39:49And I'm going, yeah, why not?
- 39:51Especially when you have absolutely or
- 39:53not, I mean, absolutely no idea,
- 39:54but very little idea who you might
- 39:57actually be.
- 39:58Like if I called freaking, I don't know,
- 40:02name a ridiculously successful podcast
- 40:05tomorrow.
- 40:06If I called Joe Rogan tomorrow and was
- 40:07like, hi, Joe,
- 40:09I'm a random forty nine year old
- 40:10CrossFitter.
- 40:11And I would I think I would be
- 40:12great on your show as an interview because
- 40:14I'm just a regular dude who just has
- 40:16a job and trying to make the CrossFit
- 40:18Games.
- 40:19Yeah, yeah,
- 40:20that probably would go over really well,
- 40:22right?
- 40:22And we're nowhere near the level of a
- 40:24Joe Rogan.
- 40:25No.
- 40:26However,
- 40:27we are fairly popular with our audience,
- 40:30right?
- 40:30So you're just going to come on and
- 40:33just try to, let me not say bully,
- 40:34because I'm sure he was not trying to
- 40:35bully you,
- 40:35but think that you just need to be
- 40:38on the show for what fucking reason?
- 40:40It says, and never would have read it.
- 40:43I would have read it,
- 40:44because it would have made content for the
- 40:47show.
- 40:48Sure.
- 40:48And so,
- 40:52Most of when I say I would never
- 40:53read a book again is a joke.
- 40:55But I've read a lot of books in
- 40:57my life and it's just not relaxing to,
- 41:00or I don't even know how to describe
- 41:02it.
- 41:03It's not what I want to do anymore.
- 41:04Just touch a thing.
- 41:05It's fine.
- 41:06This is about the history of CrossFit.
- 41:08I do do a CrossFit podcast.
- 41:10I would have read it.
- 41:12Yeah.
- 41:12We even talk about CrossFit on this show
- 41:14from time to time, believe it or not.
- 41:16Every once, maybe once or twice a month.
- 41:21I'm to the point now where I will
- 41:23not purchase that book.
- 41:25No.
- 41:25Why would you?
- 41:27Like, okay,
- 41:28the rest of y'all can talk about it.
- 41:30And it's so tough for me because I
- 41:35see clips of like John Young talking about
- 41:37it and him buying it all hook, line,
- 41:42and sinker.
- 41:43Yeah, like it's gospel.
- 41:45Right?
- 41:46Without asking a question.
- 41:48i want to know how compelling this book
- 41:50is that he went all in on one
- 41:52person's opinion because he's easily
- 41:56swayed i don't know right like but it
- 41:58could be it could i don't know how
- 42:01much context is behind everything so i
- 42:05have a curiosity but i will never buy
- 42:07his book now no not not not any
- 42:11whatsoever and especially not when like
- 42:15I don't know if you saw Coach Glassman
- 42:19this morning on Sub-On,
- 42:21like immediately addressed it this
- 42:24morning.
- 42:25I was busy doing trainings this morning.
- 42:27So today's Wednesday,
- 42:30Coach Glassman's on Wednesday,
- 42:32he's on seven,
- 42:33so I got it on while I'm doing
- 42:34stuff this morning.
- 42:36And the first thing Greg did was talk
- 42:37about the story that everybody's like
- 42:39using that as their tagline for them
- 42:41stopping like the plane landing and then
- 42:43so they can go to Chick-fil-A.
- 42:45And Greg says,
- 42:46he's laughing the whole time because it's
- 42:48funny to him how they portrayed it versus
- 42:50what actually happened.
- 42:54And he just goes on and tells the
- 42:55entire story.
- 42:56Hey, actually,
- 42:57one of the motors blew up on the
- 42:58plane and we had to stop.
- 43:00And then we were trying to figure out
- 43:02how to get everybody back home.
- 43:04So there happened to be a Chick-fil-A
- 43:06nearby.
- 43:07So we Ubered or whatever was the mode
- 43:10of transportation at the time to a
- 43:13Chick-fil-A and hung out there and ate
- 43:16while we were trying to figure out how
- 43:18to get back on another plane and whatnot.
- 43:22Dude.
- 43:26it's easy to take stuff like that and
- 43:28editorialize it or add your own opinions
- 43:30to it or your own thoughts to it
- 43:31and whatnot and put a story out there
- 43:33when you're not actually talking to the
- 43:34people that actually did it.
- 43:35Pat, that's my question.
- 43:40I don't know.
- 43:41Is it one person's opinion or how many
- 43:42sources backed it up?
- 43:44And the other thing is CrossFit was a
- 43:50private company owned by one man.
- 43:53He didn't have to report to a board
- 43:55of directors.
- 43:57He didn't have to report to other people
- 44:00about it's his money.
- 44:03Who am I to tell him how to
- 44:04spend his money?
- 44:07Why do I give two shits whether he
- 44:10got a private airplane and made a stop
- 44:12in Grand Junction on his way to Denver?
- 44:16Why should that even matter to me?
- 44:20What it's, it's a lot like, you know,
- 44:24as far as Greg being in charge of
- 44:26the whole thing, it's a lot like when,
- 44:27when no rep TV got announced and people
- 44:29said, you know,
- 44:30I saw that there was a, you could,
- 44:32you could send, uh, not feedback,
- 44:35but like you could report videos and they
- 44:37were actually like, well, who go,
- 44:39who does this go to report?
- 44:41Uh, me, like,
- 44:43if you're the only person that's in charge
- 44:46of the entire thing,
- 44:47then you get to make all the decisions.
- 44:48That's how that works.
- 44:51Yeah.
- 44:51Period.
- 44:52If you live by yourself and someone comes
- 44:54to your house and you decide that
- 44:56everybody's taking their shoes off when
- 44:57they walk in the door,
- 44:58then that's the rule or you can leave.
- 45:00It's fine.
- 45:01And nobody gets to question that because
- 45:03it's your shit.
- 45:06Your name's on all the checks on all
- 45:07the whatever.
- 45:09So you can do whatever you want to
- 45:13do because it's a free country.
- 45:14Last time I checked,
- 45:16it has been for two hundred fifty years
- 45:17now.
- 45:18Oh, I love that, like,
- 45:20they keep saying that he surrounded
- 45:22himself with yes-men and blah-blah.
- 45:24Again...
- 45:26He is a one-man entity at that point
- 45:28in time.
- 45:29He can surround himself with whoever the
- 45:31hell he wants.
- 45:33We got no say in it because it's
- 45:35his money, his company,
- 45:38and he can do whatever he wants with
- 45:39it.
- 45:39I think that's where CrossFitters get
- 45:42caught up in stuff is that we feel
- 45:46because we are part of this community,
- 45:48we have a say.
- 45:52And when I first joined my affiliate,
- 45:53it was so tiny.
- 45:55I felt like a founding member.
- 45:57Maybe I was a founding member.
- 45:58And I felt like I could tell the
- 46:00owner of my gym how he should run
- 46:02his business.
- 46:03Because you've been there since...
- 46:04At some point, I'm like,
- 46:07I don't have the right.
- 46:08I didn't put any money into this business.
- 46:10I have no right to tell him what
- 46:12to do.
- 46:13I pay you a hundred and fifty bucks
- 46:14a month and I think I should,
- 46:16I think I should tell you like how
- 46:19many rolls of toilet paper you should have
- 46:20in the bathroom.
- 46:21No dude, that's not how it works.
- 46:23It's not how any kind of business works.
- 46:25You don't get to walk into McDonald's and
- 46:26be like,
- 46:27I want chicken spaghetti right now.
- 46:30They're going to ask you how to do
- 46:31it.
- 46:31Yeah.
- 46:33Now,
- 46:33if he came to me and asked me
- 46:34for advice,
- 46:35which he did it back in the day.
- 46:37Sure.
- 46:38Then it's solicited and I,
- 46:41But I think that that line gets blurred
- 46:43with a lot of people in CrossFit gyms
- 46:47and stuff like that.
- 46:51So it is what it is.
- 46:54Seen it happen.
- 46:55Not just at a horse,
- 46:55but lots of different places where people
- 46:57get too big for their bridges and think
- 46:58that they should be telling people how to
- 46:59run the place.
- 47:00Bro, it don't work that way.
- 47:02Does not work that way.
- 47:03It's like walking into any kind of
- 47:05business and just demanding stuff that you
- 47:07think you deserve because you spend money
- 47:09there.
- 47:09That's insane.
- 47:10That's what crazy people do.
- 47:14Yeah.
- 47:16So that's why I just,
- 47:17there is a curiosity,
- 47:19but because like he stiffed me,
- 47:22I'll never read the book now.
- 47:23Yeah.
- 47:24If you're going to come on here or
- 47:26message you, have a conversation, hey,
- 47:29I would like to be on your thing
- 47:30to promote this thing.
- 47:32Well, I haven't actually read it.
- 47:34I don't know what I would talk about.
- 47:36It would just be you talking, right?
- 47:39It would have been him talking and you
- 47:41asking questions with no kind of frame of
- 47:42reference because you haven't read the
- 47:43thing.
- 47:44Okay.
- 47:45which is not how you conduct interviews
- 47:48whatsoever.
- 47:48Like you don't ever, Scott,
- 47:50in case y'all didn't know,
- 47:51Scott's never had anybody on here that he
- 47:54knew nothing about.
- 47:57Like that's just not how that works.
- 47:59Even when I came on like a couple
- 48:01of times before I was ever a member
- 48:03of this place and we had, you know,
- 48:06the couple of those shows that we did,
- 48:07like we had conversations before I ever
- 48:09came on.
- 48:11And I research everybody that ever comes
- 48:13on this show as you should,
- 48:15because you have no idea what these people
- 48:18are going to say when you get on
- 48:19here, like plain and simple.
- 48:21So like that,
- 48:22that seems absolutely insane to me,
- 48:25but on top of that to go,
- 48:26Oh yeah, no,
- 48:27I'll have my people send your people a
- 48:30thing.
- 48:30And then when you read it,
- 48:31then I can come on then like, sure.
- 48:32Absolutely.
- 48:33Cause that makes sure that that actually
- 48:36happens.
- 48:37Meredith says,
- 48:38I didn't realize it was a thing for
- 48:39authors to offer to be on podcasts,
- 48:41I guess,
- 48:41if they're trying to be on the marketing
- 48:43circuit.
- 48:43But still, I get emails all the time.
- 48:50A couple of months of people wanting to
- 48:53come on the podcast.
- 48:56For various reasons, I'm sure.
- 48:59But a lot of times the subject matter
- 49:01that they're proposing doesn't really
- 49:03align with anything we're doing.
- 49:07Honestly,
- 49:08I've pretty much ignored all of them.
- 49:12I will just say.
- 49:16But I get a handful a month.
- 49:17Yeah, I'm sure you do.
- 49:20And then some of them have agents and
- 49:22then I get them like three times a
- 49:24month,
- 49:24the same request over and over again.
- 49:27Hey,
- 49:27just reaching back out to see if you
- 49:29had a decision on that thing yet.
- 49:30Hey, just, you know,
- 49:31reach back out one more time.
- 49:40Yeah, there you go.
- 49:43He did say that at this moment.
- 49:45Greg said he sat with the guy,
- 49:46but apparently he wrote things how he
- 49:48wanted them to be,
- 49:49not how Greg actually said it happened.
- 49:52And again,
- 49:53I don't care how Greg did things.
- 49:58It's his money.
- 50:03If the man wanted to spend it on
- 50:04hookers and blow,
- 50:05the man can spend it on hookers and
- 50:06blow.
- 50:08It's his money.
- 50:10Now,
- 50:11police officers may have something to say
- 50:13about it, but...
- 50:18Just reaching out to let you know your
- 50:19course warranty is expiring soon.
- 50:23That's what it feels like, Joseph,
- 50:24when they send me this stuff.
- 50:27Only I get the full bio of the
- 50:28author and what they've accomplished and
- 50:31everything.
- 50:32That...
- 50:37No, to summarize, no,
- 50:39I don't think you're being petty
- 50:39whatsoever.
- 50:41Or if that's the definition of petty,
- 50:43then I am, again,
- 50:45Tom Petty because I would have done the
- 50:46exact same thing.
- 50:49Like, yeah, hey,
- 50:49send me a confirmation when they send me
- 50:51the book so I know it's coming so
- 50:53I can be on the lookout for it.
- 50:55Right?
- 50:56Like,
- 50:56that would seem to be a pretty reasonable
- 50:58thing to ask for.
- 51:00And then no confirmation number.
- 51:02And then I'm not reaching back out to
- 51:03you again, dog.
- 51:04Like, that's not happening.
- 51:06You are asking to do something and I'm
- 51:09telling you, absolutely,
- 51:11let's go through these steps.
- 51:13And if you don't go through the steps,
- 51:14then I'm not talking about it.
- 51:17I'm not promoting it.
- 51:18We're talking about it right now,
- 51:19but that's kind of a different
- 51:20relationship as far as I'm concerned.
- 51:23But I'm certainly not about to just have
- 51:27you on just so you can say things
- 51:29that I have absolutely no idea and have
- 51:32no frame of reference for.
- 51:35That's what crazy people do.
- 51:43And people saying that Greg was a bad
- 51:45businessman,
- 51:46just because he ran his business in a
- 51:48way that you wouldn't have,
- 51:50didn't make it bad.
- 51:52He made CrossFit into something that was
- 51:55so sellable that once he decided to sell
- 51:59it, it sold in less than a week.
- 52:02Yeah.
- 52:04That's a wild take, dude.
- 52:06That is a wild take.
- 52:07From somebody in Greg who was riding his
- 52:10bicycle to go train people because he did
- 52:13not have a car to where he is
- 52:15currently, but he was a bad businessman.
- 52:18Okay.
- 52:19That makes perfect sense.
- 52:22took a one gym methodology and made it
- 52:26into a two hundred million dollar business
- 52:29at a minimum yeah but you know pretty
- 52:34bad businessman yeah bananas dude he's
- 52:39mentioned he was talking he talked about a
- 52:40little bit a little bit about that uh
- 52:42this morning as well
- 52:45And Dale Saran was the one this morning.
- 52:47His lawyer has been with him since Jesus
- 52:49was a baby.
- 52:50And Dale was just confirming.
- 52:51Dale was just sitting there like, yeah,
- 52:53this is all the stuff that happened.
- 52:59So many years ago when I was at
- 53:00Morning Chalk Up,
- 53:02I was told that there's a lot of
- 53:03this stuff that happened with Greg and the
- 53:05business and blah, blah, blah.
- 53:06Right.
- 53:08and uh it was around the time that
- 53:10there was a threat that that stuff was
- 53:12going to get leaked to gq and the
- 53:14new york post and all this stuff and
- 53:19the morning chalk up had some paperwork
- 53:22around that whole thing it all turned out
- 53:24to be bs like all of it all
- 53:28of it but it took me it took
- 53:30me a while to get kind of past
- 53:31that because
- 53:33That's what I saw,
- 53:34and that's all I knew was what I
- 53:36saw in this paperwork.
- 53:37But then as I've gotten deeper and deeper
- 53:40into the CrossFit space and learned more
- 53:42and more and more,
- 53:43a lot of it wasn't even possible.
- 53:48It's the people who go back and say
- 53:49things like, oh, at this time,
- 53:52on this date, this happened, blah, blah,
- 53:54blah, whatever.
- 53:54And then Greg goes back with the receipts
- 53:56and is like, yeah,
- 53:57I wasn't there at that time,
- 53:57at that date.
- 54:00And he's got like five people saying,
- 54:03Backing him up, be like, yeah, no,
- 54:04I was actually with him.
- 54:04We were in Africa at that time talking
- 54:06to whoever, whatnot.
- 54:08Or the people that just speak to his
- 54:09character about, and you go like, okay,
- 54:12so you're telling me he's this lecherous
- 54:15man who's doing all these unhinged things
- 54:18and whatnot,
- 54:19but is he also just stopping to talk
- 54:20to random homeless people and ask them how
- 54:22they got to be how they were and
- 54:25buying them jackets and whatnot?
- 54:27Okay, yeah,
- 54:28those two things usually mesh up pretty
- 54:29well.
- 54:31I don't get it, dude.
- 54:32I really don't get it.
- 54:33All right, guys.
