• 1:51
Speaker 3: but I want to Welcome to the show now. Tim
• 1:52
Speaker 3: Brady from the Charleston CVB Convention of Visitors Bureau, Good morning, sir,
• 1:57
Speaker 3: Welcome to the show. Good morning Dave. Always a pleasure
• 1:59
Speaker 3: to be here, brother.
• 2:00
Speaker 4: It's a pleasure if you'd open up for Adam Harris too, right, Listen,
• 2:02
Speaker 4: I like to refer to myself as Adam's valet. Okay,
• 2:05
Speaker 4: I escort him to the ring, I, you know, make
• 2:08
Speaker 4: sure he's got plenty of water for hydration purposes.
• 2:11
  Speaker 3: He's okay, yeah, okay. I mean I think if you're
• 2:14
Speaker 3: going to pull off the valet thing, you need to
• 2:16
Speaker 3: go old school with like the feathers and the whole
• 2:18
Speaker 3: deal of the whole boa thing, you know, like Sunshine
• 2:20
Speaker 3: with gorgeous Jimmy Garvin.
• 2:22
Speaker 4: In the eighties, I considered myself more of like the
• 2:24
Speaker 4: Virgil to his ted dB ah, got it, got.
• 2:27
Speaker 3: It there, you got it? Got it? Okay? All right?
• 2:30
Speaker 3: And by the way, I do want to ride you.
• 2:32
Speaker 3: I'm not going to be here on Thursday. So I've
• 2:34
Speaker 3: got Amy Breedlove in the studio with me today, who's
• 2:37
Speaker 3: just taking notes and watching things, right Amy, all right, right,
• 2:41
Speaker 3: see she's not. We wouldn't even give her a microphone today.
• 2:43
Speaker 3: So there you go.
• 2:44
Speaker 4: Got to earn that, got to earn that, all right.
• 2:46
Speaker 4: So Regott, I want to start with Regatta Jorce and
• 2:49
Speaker 4: then we'll get into some other things. I want to
• 2:50
Speaker 4: talk to you about.
• 2:51
Speaker 3: I mean, we're only, you know, forty eight hours away
• 2:53
Speaker 3: from the biggest party in Charleston, quart of a million
• 2:55
Speaker 3: people come to town. It's going to be great. Weather
• 2:57
Speaker 3: looks good, hot, hot, good, but no right, no rain.
• 3:00
Speaker 3: And once we get through today anyway, I know you
• 3:02
Speaker 3: guys are excited about this at the convention visitor Bureau
• 3:05
  Speaker 3: as well. Absolutely.
• 3:06
Speaker 4: I mean, this drives visitation, it drives visitor spending, it
• 3:10
Speaker 4: drives a hotel occupancy. Plus it's just such a positive
• 3:14
Speaker 4: thing for the community. And we'll talk more about that
• 3:17
Speaker 4: sort of in this grand scheme of things with Regatta
• 3:19
Speaker 4: and with cycling. But you know, we talk all the
• 3:21
Speaker 4: time about economic impact, but I also want to make
• 3:23
Speaker 4: sure we're talking about community impact, that these are positive
• 3:26
Speaker 4: drivers in our community making Charleston a better place to live,
• 3:30
Speaker 4: work and play. So really excited about Regatta. It's going
• 3:33
Speaker 4: to be a great four days in the city of Charleston.
• 3:35
Speaker 4: And we'll get back to that a little bit later on.
• 3:37
Speaker 3: But you mentioned the bike championships that we had back
• 3:40
Speaker 3: in May, and numbers are starting to come in to
• 3:42
Speaker 3: a certain extent about that, So hit us with.
• 3:44
Speaker 4: It, well man, The timing is great because this officially
• 3:48
Speaker 4: went out as a press release at nine o'clock this morning.
• 3:51
Speaker 4: You are the very first person that I'm talking to
• 3:53
Speaker 4: about this, So I hope you feel special.
• 3:55
Speaker 3: I do. Do you feel special for me? She'd feel
• 3:59
Speaker 3: more special? Is warm? Give her a microphone? Well, she's
• 4:04
Speaker 3: sitting behind the board watching what I'm doing.
• 4:06
  Speaker 5: He fair enough.
• 4:07
Speaker 4: Six point nine million dollars in economic impact. Let's just
• 4:10
Speaker 4: rip the band aid right off. That's a fifty percent
• 4:12
Speaker 4: increase from last year. Fifty percent up from twenty twenty four.
• 4:16
Speaker 4: Visitor spending up fourteen percent. Visitor spending in the city
• 4:20
Speaker 4: of Charleston during the eight days of USA Cycling Pro
• 4:23
Speaker 4: Road National Championships, presented by Spilman Thomas in Battle, accounted
• 4:26
Speaker 4: for thirteen percent of all spending in the city.
• 4:29
Speaker 3: So all the of all.
• 4:30
Speaker 4: The spending happening over those eight days, thirteen percent of
• 4:33
Speaker 4: it came from visitors from beyond fifty miles or more. So,
• 4:38
Speaker 4: we tracked about five hundred and ninety one thousand dollars
• 4:40
Speaker 4: in local taxes paid during that event. That's bed tax,
• 4:44
  Speaker 4: that's B and O tax, that's sales tax, So over
• 4:49
Speaker 4: half a million dollars in taxes generated in the City
• 4:52
Speaker 4: of Charleston over those eight days. I mean, it was,
• 4:54
Speaker 4: it was it. It shattered all expectations. Last year it
• 4:59
Speaker 4: was four point three four point four million dollars in
• 5:02
Speaker 4: economic impact, and we knew that it would grow this year.
• 5:05
Speaker 4: It absolutely blew our expectations out of the water. Just
• 5:08
Speaker 4: wait till you get to the point when you realize
• 5:10
Speaker 4: and you know what you're doing.
• 5:12
  Speaker 3: Yeah, I know, right, because I mean I know, I
• 5:14
Speaker 3: know that as a joke, because we always say with events,
• 5:16
Speaker 3: you know, the first year, yep, it's you know, okay,
• 5:18
Speaker 3: we don't know what we don't know. Second year, we're
• 5:21
Speaker 3: going to improve on these things. Year three is usually
• 5:24
Speaker 3: when things start to really really take off. But based
• 5:26
Speaker 3: on what you've done in years one and two, I
• 5:28
Speaker 3: think we're on a good trajectory here.
• 5:31
Speaker 4: I think so too, And that speaks to a lot
• 5:32
Speaker 4: of things. And it's funny you say the three year
• 5:34
Speaker 4: the year three model, because Mayor Goodwin and I talk
• 5:37
Speaker 4: about that all the time. Year one you have no clue,
• 5:39
Speaker 4: Year two, you're dialing it. In year three, you can
• 5:42
Speaker 4: pretty much lock in on exactly what you're doing and
• 5:44
Speaker 4: then really start to amplify some of the ancillary offerings
• 5:48
Speaker 4: around an event. This does not happen. Speaking a mayor,
• 5:51
Speaker 4: good one, This does not happen without the full support
• 5:53
Speaker 4: of the City of Charleston, the Mayor's office, and literally
• 5:56
Speaker 4: every department of the city has a hand in pro
• 6:00
Speaker 4: Road National Championships each year, from parking to streets, to
• 6:04
Speaker 4: sanitation to public works, CPD, Charleston Fire Department, Literally every
• 6:09
Speaker 4: city department in some way, shape or form touches this event.
• 6:12
Speaker 4: So this does not happen without the full and complete
• 6:15
Speaker 4: support of the city. Doesn't happen without great partners and
• 6:18
Speaker 4: sponsors like Spilm and Thomas and Battle and CAMC and
• 6:21
Speaker 4: Astorg Motors some of the bigger sponsors. We had fifty
• 6:25
Speaker 4: eight local sponsors this year. That's engagement, right, That's fifty
• 6:29
Speaker 4: eight businesses and organizations that came to the table and said, yes,
• 6:32
Speaker 4: we want to help with this. And we talked about
• 6:35
Speaker 4: that economic impact six point nine million dollars. That's awesome,
• 6:38
Speaker 4: and there are all kinds of really great anecdotal stories.
• 6:40
Speaker 4: But the other thing that I want to make sure
• 6:42
Speaker 4: we mention is there were multiple local charities that benefited
• 6:45
Speaker 4: from the event while it was in town. This year,
• 6:46
Speaker 4: we raised money and awareness for Mountaineer Food Bank, talking
• 6:49
Speaker 4: about hunger in our community. We raised money and awareness
• 6:52
Speaker 4: for Big Brothers, Big Sisters. We raised money and awareness
• 6:55
Speaker 4: for the CAMC Foundation. So local charities and nonprofit organizations
• 7:01
Speaker 4: benefited from this as well. It's not all about economic impact.
• 7:04
Speaker 4: It is about that community impact making our community a
• 7:06
Speaker 4: better place, which will help in the long run drive
• 7:09
Speaker 4: additional visitation. We're partnering with the Greater Kanav Valley Foundation
• 7:14
Speaker 4: to create a pilot program this fall that we'll start
• 7:17
Speaker 4: with mary c Snow where we're going to get bikes
• 7:19
Speaker 4: into schools and teach kids about bike safety and educate
• 7:23
Speaker 4: them on cycling and maybe spark some interest and grow
• 7:28
Speaker 4: kids love of cycling in our community. So all of
• 7:31
Speaker 4: these things. Yes, the event is great and lots of
• 7:34
Speaker 4: people came to town and lots of people spent money,
• 7:36
Speaker 4: But at the end of the day, when we look
• 7:38
Speaker 4: back on the end of this five year contract, I
• 7:40
Speaker 4: want people to look at it and say hosting that
• 7:42
Speaker 4: event made our city better.
• 7:44
Speaker 3: Talking to Tim Brady from the Charleston Convention of iSER
• 7:46
Speaker 3: Bureau of Dave aland showing five eighty line broad to
• 7:48
Speaker 3: you by Morgan to Morgan if you're injured and hire
• 7:50
Speaker 3: Morgan to Morgan in America's largest injury law firm. But
• 7:52
Speaker 3: I want to go back to the very beginning of this,
• 7:55
Speaker 3: when it was first discussed that this biking event was
• 7:59
Speaker 3: going to be in Charleston, and obviously you were high
• 8:01
Speaker 3: on it, the mayor, city council, others, other you know,
• 8:04
Speaker 3: folks that are in the know, were high on this thing.
• 8:06
Speaker 3: But even then, you knew it was going to be good.
• 8:09
Speaker 3: Did you have any idea it was going to be
• 8:10
Speaker 3: this good for the city at Charleston.
• 8:12
Speaker 4: I did not, I really did not. I knew it
• 8:14
Speaker 4: was going to be a great event. You know, We've
• 8:16
Speaker 4: hosted enough events and enough sporting events and these types
• 8:19
Speaker 4: of things that you know, we knew it was going
• 8:20
Speaker 4: to be good and it would bring people to town.
• 8:24
Speaker 4: I think now that I'm two years into this and
• 8:27
Speaker 4: our staff is two years into this, we now see
• 8:30
Speaker 4: this as a transformative opportunity for our city. I mean,
• 8:32
Speaker 4: you saw this year we developed the Bike City campaign
• 8:35
Speaker 4: encouraging people to get out and bike, and we're going
• 8:38
Speaker 4: to continue to build upon that, uh and make Bike
• 8:41
Speaker 4: City a thing. So I think when we look back
• 8:45
Speaker 4: on it, As I said, it's gonna we're going to
• 8:47
Speaker 4: realize that it was transformative for our city, that it
• 8:50
Speaker 4: opened eyes to possibilities of what we can and can't
• 8:52
Speaker 4: do in the city, Like what we what can we
• 8:54
Speaker 4: what can we do if if we all pitch in
• 8:57
Speaker 4: and grow our volunteer base and everybody is you know,
• 9:01
Speaker 4: you know, amenable to some road closure.
• 9:03
Speaker 3: What kind of big things can we do here? What?
• 9:05
Speaker 4: What are the possibilities? And I would say the possibilities
• 9:08
Speaker 4: are endless. Not to be cliche, but I think we'll
• 9:10
Speaker 4: look back on this and say this event changed who
• 9:13
Speaker 4: we are as a city in a very good way.
• 9:16
Speaker 3: And for the average person that's listening right now, Tim,
• 9:19
Speaker 3: I mean, these numbers are great, They're fantastic, and hats
• 9:21
Speaker 3: off to you and to the city for being able
• 9:23
Speaker 3: to put put all this Gaven, the sponsors and everything.
• 9:26
Speaker 3: But what does this? I mean somebody may be listening
• 9:28
Speaker 3: right now saying, well, you know, I I'm somebody that
• 9:30
Speaker 3: works in Charleston, I'm somebody who lives in Charleston. What
• 9:33
Speaker 3: are my benefits from this? Well, let's go back to.
• 9:36
Speaker 4: The five hundred and ninety one thousand dollars in local
• 9:38
Speaker 4: taxes generated just by this event. And that's when we
• 9:41
Speaker 4: talk about tourism being economic development and civic development. That's
• 9:44
Speaker 4: what we're talking about. So if you're the average person
• 9:46
Speaker 4: that didn't come out and watch, really didn't care that
• 9:50
Speaker 4: it was in town, it maybe impacted you a little
• 9:52
Speaker 4: bit negatively because it madjeor commute to work ten minutes longer.
• 9:57
Speaker 4: First of all, I would say, come out and enjoy it.
• 9:59
Speaker 4: You'd have a lot of fun. But also five and
• 10:02
Speaker 4: ninety one thousand dollars in local taxes generated. That's roads
• 10:05
Speaker 4: that we can pave in the city of Charleston, that's
• 10:08
Speaker 4: street lights that we can replace, lampposts that we can replace,
• 10:11
Speaker 4: that's grounds keeping in beautification efforts that can be supported
• 10:15
Speaker 4: through that type. So think about if you are that person,
• 10:19
Speaker 4: look at the taxes that it generates, and also look
• 10:21
Speaker 4: at the business generated in those local restaurants and shops. Anecdotally,
• 10:27
Speaker 4: Friday afternoon into Friday night, the night race on Friday
• 10:31
Speaker 4: from four to ten, the single best shift in the
• 10:35
Speaker 4: history of Fife Street Brewing from a revenue standpoint, single
• 10:39
Speaker 4: best shift of any day ever in their history, was
• 10:43
Speaker 4: that Friday. People were getting tipped out significant amounts of money.
• 10:47
Speaker 4: That we're working the bar, that we're bar backing, that
• 10:49
Speaker 4: we're working in the kitchen. That's money that's being generated
• 10:52
Speaker 4: by the people that live and work in your community.
• 10:54
  Speaker 4: That's putting food on people's tables. That's what it's doing.
• 10:57
Speaker 4: Not to be overly dramatic about it, but bringing these
• 10:59
Speaker 4: events to town, concerts at the Coliseum, regatta, state high
• 11:04
Speaker 4: school football, state high school basketball, concerts, children's events like
• 11:08
Speaker 4: Disney on Ice, those events, bringing those to town. Yeah
• 11:12
Speaker 4: they're fun and yeah they're high profile and people see
• 11:15
Speaker 4: them in its entertainment, it's also how people in our
• 11:17
Speaker 4: community make a living. So bringing these events to town
• 11:21
Speaker 4: quite literally puts food on people's tables. That's the benefit
• 11:24
  Speaker 4: of these events.
• 11:25
Speaker 3: And of course here in a couple of weeks we'll
• 11:27
Speaker 3: be talking about TBT YEP. That's going to bring people
• 11:30
Speaker 3: in even after the regatta and just one event like
• 11:33
Speaker 3: this after another. I mean, Charleston is doing a lot
• 11:36
Speaker 3: of great things right now. Man.
• 11:37
Speaker 4: Well, and it's funny because we were talking about it.
• 11:40
Speaker 4: It took us a little longer to put the economic
• 11:42
Speaker 4: impact information from cycling together this year because some factors
• 11:46
Speaker 4: beyond our control, but we got we finally we're getting
• 11:49
Speaker 4: it all together, and it's like, well, do we release
• 11:51
Speaker 4: it now with Regatta coming up or do we wait?
• 11:55
Speaker 4: And I said, you know what, here's my thought. What
• 11:57
Speaker 4: a great day to announce the economic impact of cycling
• 12:00
Speaker 4: as we're getting ready to head into the Marquee, the
• 12:03
Speaker 4: signature event in the city of Charleston each summer. So
• 12:06
Speaker 4: let's talk about cycling and the positive impact it made
• 12:10
Speaker 4: as we ramp up and get ready for the literally
• 12:12
Speaker 4: the biggest event in the calendar year in the city
• 12:15
Speaker 4: of Charleston. So it's it's a great summer because then,
• 12:18
Speaker 4: as you said, you follow that up with TBT, We've
• 12:20
Speaker 4: got some other things cooking for September that I can't
• 12:23
Speaker 4: wait to talk to you about. And I am sitting
• 12:24
Speaker 4: on that until God is over. It's just one thing
• 12:28
Speaker 4: after We are an event driven city and again that's
• 12:30
Speaker 4: how people make a living in our town. So it's exciting.
• 12:33
Speaker 4: Six point nine million dollars in economic impact from cycling.
• 12:36
Speaker 4: Regatta will dwarf that and then we just keep rolling
• 12:39
Speaker 4: right into the fall.
• 12:40
  Speaker 6: Right.
• 12:41
Speaker 3: We looking forward to talking to you again, man, Thanks
• 12:43
Speaker 3: a lot, Dave. It is always a privileged to be here.

• 15:30
Speaker 3: right now. Big part of Regatta is the wrestling event
• 15:34
Speaker 3: that is happening on Saturday afternoon. Adam Harris is the
• 15:37
Speaker 3: guy behind that and he joins us now at morning day. Alay,
• 15:41
Speaker 3: welcome to the show. Mister Brady asked if he can
• 15:43
Speaker 3: kind of hang out.
• 15:44
Speaker 9: Yeah, absolutely, as long as he goes and warms up
• 15:46

  Speaker 9: Virgil should.
• 15:49
Speaker 3: Ye. I've got the umbrella too. I make sure he
• 15:51
Speaker 3: does that. When he walks to the.
• 15:52
  Speaker 5: Car, my man, it's a team effort. It's a real
• 15:54
  Speaker 5: team effort.
• 15:55
  Speaker 2: All right.
• 15:55
Speaker 3: So the event is Saturday, that's.
• 15:57
Speaker 9: Right, not just any event. It is the third Stern
• 16:00
Speaker 9: and will Slamburrie. And it's been a part. And as
• 16:02
Speaker 9: I heard you guys talking about the three year program,
• 16:04
Speaker 9: this is our third year and we're moving the event
• 16:05
Speaker 9: actually down in front of Hadad Riverfront Park, so a
• 16:08
Speaker 9: brand new location right there in front of the stage,
• 16:11
Speaker 9: I should say, at Hadad Riverfront Park. H So, I
• 16:13
Speaker 9: think it's going to be really exciting. It's a new venue,
• 16:16
Speaker 9: a new location, and a and a bigger show than ever.
• 16:18
Speaker 3: All right, So what do we got on the on
• 16:20
Speaker 3: the lineup? Well, as you know, the first way, he
• 16:22
Speaker 3: like he does his hands like this, like he's so
• 16:24
Speaker 3: excited about this. I get it. I mean, I mean,
• 16:26
  Speaker 3: you're you're, you're, you're you're a wrestling guy man, for sure,
• 16:30
  Speaker 3: for sure.
• 16:31
Speaker 9: Thanks to the Mayor of Charleston, you know, Amy Goodwin
• 16:34
Speaker 9: and Matt Sutton in her office and Tim Brady who
• 16:36
Speaker 9: have all convinced them that wrestling is a big enough
• 16:38
Speaker 9: deal that it should be a part of the regatta.
• 16:40
Speaker 9: And uh, we take that seriously. We want to present
• 16:42
Speaker 9: a great show for the people of Charleston. It's a
• 16:44
Speaker 9: free show three pm bell time. And if you were
• 16:47
Speaker 9: there the first year, you know we crowned our first
• 16:49
Speaker 9: ever Regatta Pro Wrestling champion and that was Troy Parker. However,
• 16:53
Speaker 9: due to some contractual uh uh, contractual what would you
• 16:58
Speaker 9: say clauses, Bishopaylor instigated an immediate challenge to Troy Parker
• 17:03
Speaker 9: and took the title from him later that evening and
• 17:05
Speaker 9: has now held on to it for over seven hundred days.
• 17:08
Speaker 9: And he likes to say accurately that he's the longest
• 17:11
Speaker 9: reigning We're god a pro wrestling champion, But man, since then,
• 17:14
Speaker 9: that was three years ago, man, And since then, Bishop
• 17:17
Speaker 9: Baylor has stepped in the ring with tons of luminaries,
• 17:19
Speaker 9: including the ECW legend Shane Douglas. Bishop has really upped
• 17:23
Speaker 9: his game, and yet so has Troy Parker, who is
• 17:26
Speaker 9: the super heavyweight striker. He's been in the ring with
• 17:30
Speaker 9: Calvin Tankman at Conquest. Bishop also wrestled what's his name,
• 17:35
Speaker 9: the deathmatch guy. I can't think of his name right now,
• 17:37
Speaker 9: thank you, Nick Gage. So they've all up their game
• 17:40
Speaker 9: in a huge way. So they are not the same
• 17:42
Speaker 9: wrestlers they were three years ago, and in fact Bishop
• 17:45
Speaker 9: is the Boone County Champion out of ASW your alma mater.
• 17:49
Speaker 9: Then he took that title from Noah Ray, who's still
• 17:52
Speaker 9: upset about it. And after the market mayhem, there was
• 17:55
Speaker 9: a match for a chance at the title, and that's
• 17:57
Speaker 9: when Troy Parker won the fatal four way match. But
• 17:59
Speaker 9: he took it right out from under Noah Ray, and
• 18:01
Speaker 9: no Array was not happy about it, challenged Bishop to
• 18:04
Speaker 9: include him as well as a challenger, and so Bishop,
• 18:07
Speaker 9: being the fighting champion that he is, is stepping into
• 18:10
Speaker 9: the sternwill Slamboree for a triple threat Regatta Championship match.
• 18:14
Speaker 5: That's going to be our main event.
• 18:15
  Speaker 6: Yeah.
• 18:15
Speaker 3: I mean, you guys are a load. You get some
• 18:16
Speaker 3: legends coming in for this too.
• 18:18
Speaker 5: You've seen our posts.
• 18:19
Speaker 9: Shout out to Matt Sutton who's been handling the social
• 18:21
Speaker 9: media on Regatta Pro Wrestling's Facebook page.
• 18:24
Speaker 5: Go check that out.
• 18:25
Speaker 9: Yeah, we've got some legends from professional wrestling, including the
• 18:28
Speaker 9: man I just mentioned, ECW legend, Shane Douglas.
• 18:31
  Speaker 3: The franchise.
• 18:32
Speaker 9: You know, the leader of the Triple Threat is going
• 18:34
Speaker 9: to be in the house and he's actually going to wrestle.
• 18:37
Speaker 9: Shane Douglas is going to be stepping into the ring
• 18:39
Speaker 9: against one of his proteges who maybe learned a little
• 18:42
  Speaker 9: too much.
• 18:43
  Speaker 5: From Shane Douglas.
• 18:44
Speaker 9: Handsome Nick Hamrick is going to be there to challenge
• 18:47
Speaker 9: Shane Douglas. They were a team for a long time,
• 18:49
Speaker 9: but they've since split ways. I think Nick Hamrick's ego
• 18:52
Speaker 9: has gotten the best of him, and I think Shane
• 18:54
Speaker 9: Douglas is going to be there to try to bring
• 18:56
Speaker 9: him back down to Planet Earth. Then George South is
• 18:59
Speaker 9: going to be an action man. And George South is
• 19:00
Speaker 9: no stranger to this area. He used to run pro
• 19:03
Speaker 9: wrestling matches with his friend, the Italian Stallion all throughout
• 19:06
  Speaker 9: West Virginia.
• 19:07
  Speaker 10: Dave.
• 19:07
Speaker 9: He came to my sister's high school at Greenbrier West
• 19:09
Speaker 9: High School when she was a senior, and my sister
• 19:11
Speaker 9: interviewed the Italian Stallion for their school paper. And that's
• 19:15
Speaker 9: how long George South has been in West Virginia. And
• 19:17
Speaker 9: he claims to have ran during the regatta back in
• 19:20
Speaker 9: the day him an Italian Stallion, and he's excited to
• 19:23
Speaker 9: be coming back to Charleston, and we haven't announced his
• 19:26
Speaker 9: match up but it's going to be coming very very
• 19:27
Speaker 9: ston And now let me just.
• 19:28
Speaker 3: Say this about George South. I mean, he's a true
• 19:31
Speaker 3: legend in the business. As a matter of fact, if
• 19:33
Speaker 3: you watched a lot of the old Crockett stuff back
• 19:36
Speaker 3: in the nineteen eighties, George South was on TV every week.
• 19:42
Speaker 3: And my guy, the nature Boy, Rick Flair shout out
• 19:45
Speaker 3: to Rick Flair is going to going some serious health
• 19:47
Speaker 3: issues right now. Rick Flair said in an interview one time,
• 19:51
Speaker 3: he said, if you could have a match with like
• 19:54
Speaker 3: five other people, regardless of where they were in the
• 19:58
Speaker 3: wrestling business, George South from there. Yeah. And you know,
• 20:02
Speaker 3: he may not have been a big a name, as
• 20:04
Speaker 3: you know the guys Rick Flair worked, like Harley Race
• 20:06
Speaker 3: or Dusty or somebody like that. But that just goes
• 20:09
Speaker 3: to show you the level of worksmanship that George.
• 20:12
Speaker 9: He's a journeyman and a lot of people refer to
• 20:13
Speaker 9: those guys as carpenters because they're so good at their craft,
• 20:16
Speaker 9: you know. And as you said, Rick Flair, that's the
• 20:18
Speaker 9: highest praise you could possibly get. And you know, George
• 20:21
Speaker 9: South grew up watching Paul Jones in the mid Atlantic
• 20:23
Speaker 9: area and he's a mid Atlantic Superstar. He still wears
• 20:27
Speaker 9: the mid Atlantic logo on his boots, which is so cool.
• 20:30
  Speaker 3: He's such a.
• 20:30
Speaker 9: Throwback to an earlier time and I can't wait for
• 20:33
Speaker 9: the audience in Charleston get to get a load of
• 20:35
  Speaker 9: George South.
• 20:36
  Speaker 5: He's a unique one of a kind.
• 20:37
Speaker 3: All right, and he got some more legends coming into you. Yeah,
• 20:40
  Speaker 3: that's right.
• 20:40
  Speaker 6: Man.
• 20:41
Speaker 9: If you were a fan of WCW in the mid
• 20:43
Speaker 9: to late nineties as I was, you know you're a
• 20:46
Speaker 9: fan of Marcus Alexander Bagwell aka Buff Bagwell. He's buff,
• 20:50
Speaker 9: He's still the stuff, and West Virginia can't get enough
• 20:53
Speaker 9: of Buff Bagwell. He's going to be there in person.
• 20:55
Speaker 9: He's going to do a meet and greet and a
• 20:57
Speaker 9: signing after our main event. So if you remember the nWo,
• 21:01
Speaker 9: or if you remember Vicious and Delicious, or if you
• 21:03
Speaker 9: remember the American Males, he's one of the most decorated
• 21:06
Speaker 9: tag team athletes of all time, and he's been to Charleston.
• 21:09
Speaker 9: No stranger either, man. WCW used to run here back
• 21:11
Speaker 9: in the day a lot, and Buff bag Well still
• 21:14
Speaker 9: one of the most popular wrestlers on the scene, and
• 21:16
Speaker 9: he's going to be there for a special Meet and
• 21:18
Speaker 9: greet Saturday at the Stern will Slambury three pm, bell time.
• 21:22
Speaker 3: All right, and I mean you got all these folks
• 21:25
Speaker 3: coming in here approximately how many people? And you've changed
• 21:27
Speaker 3: your venue this year, that's right, a new location, yeah,
• 21:29
Speaker 3: I had Ad. But how many people generally speaking show
• 21:32
Speaker 3: up to these events out?
• 21:33
  Speaker 5: Oh gosh.
• 21:34
Speaker 9: Well, Tim has been my crowd estimator for these years,
• 21:37
Speaker 9: and they have scientific measures for which to gauge these
• 21:39
  Speaker 9: kind of things.
• 21:40
  Speaker 6: Yeah.
• 21:40
Speaker 4: We use some data provided in part by Show Walter
• 21:43
Speaker 4: and associates, and we get a lot of photographic evidence.
• 21:46
Speaker 4: Perry Bennett is always great about getting up high and
• 21:49
Speaker 4: taking some photos for us. I mean quite frankly, the
• 21:52
Speaker 4: reason that it's moving to the levee to Hadad Riverfront
• 21:55
Speaker 4: Park is because slack Plaza last year was just busting
• 21:58
Speaker 4: at the seams. We had over thirty five people in
• 22:00
Speaker 4: the park for that event, so you know we're looking
• 22:02
Speaker 4: for five thousand plus down in the bowl. That would
• 22:05
Speaker 4: be a for Stern Wheel Slambery on Saturday. And the
• 22:10
Speaker 4: price is right free show, that's right.
• 22:13
Speaker 3: Do people need to bring their own chairs? I mean,
• 22:15
Speaker 3: I know it's hat and there's some certainly kilt in
• 22:17
  Speaker 3: you certainly can.
• 22:18
Speaker 9: We're gonna put up I think about forty chairs on
• 22:19
Speaker 9: the ground beside the ring. But then also, as you know,
• 22:22
Speaker 9: the the bowl down there is meant to be saddle on.
• 22:25
Speaker 9: You can bring your chair there. I think more just
• 22:27
Speaker 9: set up on the concrete there. And I'm hoping that
• 22:29
Speaker 9: will actually be the shadiest part of the day down there.
• 22:32
Speaker 11: So it may be hot.
• 22:33
Speaker 5: It's going to be warm, no doubt about it, but
• 22:34
Speaker 5: we will at least be in the shade.
• 22:36
Speaker 9: And I just encourage people to to sunscreen up, bring
• 22:39
Speaker 9: an umbrella, bring some water, and just come and get
• 22:41
Speaker 9: wild with us at the stern will slammery for one day.
• 22:44
Speaker 4: It becomes the Hadad river Front Sportatorium. That's I like that.
• 22:48
  Speaker 11: Like that too.
• 22:49
Speaker 4: We're looking for five thousand people plus inside the sportatorium.
• 22:53
Speaker 3: I love it. I love it. I love the sportatorium
• 22:55
Speaker 3: throwback there. It's going to be exciting. Uditorium actually didn't
• 22:57
Speaker 3: have air conditioning either, but we have the gentle river breeze.
• 23:02
  Speaker 5: That's no.
• 23:04
Speaker 3: And I will say this because I was a phone
• 23:06
Speaker 3: with the dome a couple of weeks ago with all
• 23:08
Speaker 3: of our stations out there, and yeah, it was hot.
• 23:10
Speaker 3: It was a couple of saturdays ago. But when you're
• 23:12
Speaker 3: on the river down there in Dundon, I mean you tend,
• 23:16
Speaker 3: you do, tend to get that little little breeze off
• 23:18
Speaker 3: the river out there. What are the odds that somebody
• 23:20
Speaker 3: takes a bump into the river.
• 23:22
  Speaker 9: Well, I don't know. I don't know about that. I
• 23:23
Speaker 9: could never I could never predict anything. But yeah, we'll see.
• 23:28
Speaker 9: I mean, it's gonna get wild. And in George South's
• 23:30
Speaker 9: book he talks about the Italian stallion thrown him into
• 23:33
  Speaker 9: the river.
• 23:33
Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's all three o'clock on Saturday. Where's the
• 23:37
Speaker 3: best place for people to get information? I know you
• 23:39
Speaker 3: mentioned the social media definitely.
• 23:40
Speaker 9: Well you can see it on the Charleston sturm Overgotta website.
• 23:43
Speaker 9: Also at Regatta Pro Wrestling, we have an Instagram page
• 23:46
Speaker 9: and a Facebook page, and that's probably the best place
• 23:48
Speaker 9: to get the updates.
• 23:49
Speaker 5: Just go ahead and hit the bell on the Facebook
• 23:51
Speaker 5: page that you get.
• 23:51
Speaker 9: All the announcements, because we're rolling out basically two posts
• 23:54
Speaker 9: a day from here until Saturday, and so we're going
• 23:56
Speaker 9: to be announcing a lot of matches in the in
• 23:58
  Speaker 9: the coming hours.
• 23:59
Speaker 3: Actually and this is in addition everything else that's going
• 24:01
Speaker 3: on there. Ever got it at the same time, we
• 24:03
Speaker 3: don't want people to think this is the only event
• 24:06
Speaker 3: that's going on there. At three o'clock, I mean at
• 24:07
Speaker 3: that time, you got you know, the food vendors will
• 24:10
  Speaker 3: be set off.
• 24:11
Speaker 4: We got all kinds of we've got Family Fund Zone up,
• 24:13
Speaker 4: but Summer Street it's like Plaza. You've got activities in
• 24:16
Speaker 4: the park, You've got other things. How you've got the
• 24:18
Speaker 4: carnival going on. You've got all kinds of things happening
• 24:21
Speaker 4: around the city. And that's the beauty of Regatta to
• 24:24
Speaker 4: step away from specifically wrestling for just a moment. Sure
• 24:27
Speaker 4: is whatever your interest is, whatever you are into, whatever
• 24:31
Speaker 4: you like to do, there is something for you. If
• 24:34
  Speaker 4: you're a wrestling person, we've got that. If you're a
• 24:36
Speaker 4: music person, we've got that. If you're a beer person,
• 24:38
Speaker 4: we've got that. If you like to watch little dogs
• 24:40
Speaker 4: run around in a race, we've got that.
• 24:43
Speaker 3: If you like fire truck parades, we've got like, yeah,
• 24:46
Speaker 3: funeral parade, that's that's the favorite guy.
• 24:48
  Speaker 4: We've We've got something for everyone. I know that's such
• 24:51
Speaker 4: a cliched phrase, but with Regatt, it's true.
• 24:54
Speaker 9: And even if you know, I love the opportunity to
• 24:56
Speaker 9: get to present this in a free atmosphere. It's in
• 24:58
Speaker 9: an arena. It's a place where people comfortable going, they're
• 25:01
Speaker 9: familiar with it, and the casual fan might walk by,
• 25:04
Speaker 9: and I hope that we're gonna at least be able
• 25:06
Speaker 9: to expose them to something that they were never aware
• 25:08
Speaker 9: of before. And as I said on the grill out
• 25:10
Speaker 9: the other day, it's like, even if they only stay
• 25:12
Speaker 9: for one match, sometimes that's more pro wrestling than they've
• 25:15
Speaker 9: watched in their entire life. And even if they don't
• 25:17
Speaker 9: become lifelong fans, come next year, they're going to go,
• 25:20
Speaker 9: you know what, that was really fun. I'm gonna go
• 25:22
Speaker 9: down for that next year. We got a bite to eat.
• 25:23
Speaker 4: I promise you. In the three years of this, in
• 25:26
Speaker 4: the history of this event, we have created wrestling fans
• 25:29
Speaker 4: in Charleston, West Virginia.
• 25:30
Speaker 5: Definitely one thousand percent. And I don't think.
• 25:31
Speaker 3: People, you know, realize what a hot bed that West
• 25:36
Speaker 3: Virginia is for pros and has been for a number
• 25:39
  Speaker 3: of years.
• 25:39
  Speaker 5: Definitely.
• 25:40
Speaker 3: But I was at the event a couple of weeks
• 25:42
Speaker 3: ago over to a Go Mark Ballpark the Hall of
• 25:45
Speaker 3: Fame event with the real Shoot Wrestling. I kind of
• 25:47
Speaker 3: stepped away from it years ago, but they asked me
• 25:50
Speaker 3: to come back to see my good friend, Adorable Danny
• 25:52
Speaker 3: Ray inducted in the Hall of Fame last yet and
• 25:54
Speaker 3: asked me to give his speech, and I did and
• 25:56
Speaker 3: we had a great time over their great crowd for
• 25:59
Speaker 3: that event and all these other you mentioned asw which yeah,
• 26:03
Speaker 3: I used to work with, but there's so many other group,
• 26:06
Speaker 3: I mean various groups around the say to West Virginia.
• 26:08
Speaker 3: And one thing about this said you kind of bring
• 26:10
Speaker 3: in gays from different groups too.
• 26:11
  Speaker 11: That's right. Yeah.
• 26:12
Speaker 9: Part of the deal was with Regatta Pro Wrestling. It's
• 26:14
Speaker 9: an umbrella organization really just meant to highlight the four
• 26:17
Speaker 9: organizations that we work with, and that includes All Star Wrestling.
• 26:20
Speaker 9: They run in Madison most regularly Madison, West Virginia, but
• 26:23
Speaker 9: also produce the Bash in Beckley every year every June.
• 26:26
Speaker 9: Then also Appalachian Championship Wrestling who run throughout the state
• 26:30
Speaker 9: during the summer. They've got the b Dubs season where
• 26:33
Speaker 9: we do free shows outside at the Buffalo Wild Wings
• 26:35
  Speaker 9: throughout the state.
• 26:36
Speaker 5: Those are a ton of fun.
• 26:37
Speaker 9: Then Pro Wrestling Conquest runs in Kanawa City throughout the year,
• 26:42
Speaker 9: and then also the Power Slam Academy is training pro wrestlers,
• 26:44
Speaker 9: and so shout out to all four of those organizations
• 26:47
Speaker 9: because it really is the talent and the combined efforts
• 26:49
Speaker 9: of all those organizations that make this possible. And I
• 26:52
Speaker 9: have to shout out Gino's Pizza and Spaghetti House because
• 26:55
Speaker 9: that's our lead sponsor this year and certainly could not
• 26:58
Speaker 9: do the caliber of the show that we're trying to
• 27:00
Speaker 9: do without that support.
• 27:01
Speaker 3: I mean, these are you know, world class wrestlers that
• 27:03
Speaker 3: are coming in here and it's a great opportunity. And
• 27:07
Speaker 3: again it's absolutely free in the had Ads Sportatorium. As
• 27:10
Speaker 3: mister Brady, if you've.
• 27:13
Speaker 9: Been hearing about pro wrestling, you should come and check
• 27:14
Speaker 9: this out. And I think the indie scene is as
• 27:16
Speaker 9: is as strong as it's ever been. And that's why
• 27:18
Speaker 9: may Or Goodwin and her team were so interested in
• 27:20
Speaker 9: highlighting UH pro wrestling because as you said, you know,
• 27:23
Speaker 9: West Virginia is a wrestling state, Charleston is a wrestling town,
• 27:25
Speaker 9: and and because of the regatto, we're acting like it.
• 27:27
Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, here's the thing about it is, you
• 27:30
Speaker 3: talk about the history of wrestling in Charleston. Uh, everybody's
• 27:33
Speaker 3: got a story about the about the glory days, and
• 27:36
Speaker 3: you know, Georgia Championship Wrestling, which later became World Championship
• 27:39
Speaker 3: Wrestling came to Charleston, and they all seem to involve
• 27:41
Speaker 3: Rick Flair he was around, and Damon's, Joey Damon's and Huntington.
• 27:50
Speaker 4: Rick Flair and Arna Andersen and Joey's are some legendaries.
• 27:53
  Speaker 4: Everybody's got a story well.
• 27:54
Speaker 9: And it's similar like that with Buff Bagwell for people
• 27:57
Speaker 9: of a certain era, because if they came to Charleston
• 27:58
Speaker 9: to see those nitros in the two thousands, chances are
• 28:02
Speaker 9: they got to meet.
• 28:02
  Speaker 11: Buff bay Well.
• 28:03
Speaker 9: I've talked to a couple people who have met Buff Bagwell,
• 28:05
Speaker 9: you know, in that classic walking over to the Marriott
• 28:07
Speaker 9: after the show, you know. And I got messages on
• 28:09
Speaker 9: my page as soon as we announced that Buff Bagwell
• 28:11
Speaker 9: was coming, like wow, I really I really loved Buff
• 28:14
Speaker 9: Bagwell in the nineties, you know, Buff Daddy and all that,
• 28:16
Speaker 9: and uh yeah, I remember my friend told one on
• 28:19
Speaker 9: the grill out. They said there was a story where
• 28:21
Speaker 9: this guy got to meet Buff Bagwell, but because he
• 28:22
Speaker 9: was a heel, and he said something bad about Charleston.
• 28:24
Speaker 5: He didn't want his autograph.
• 28:26
Speaker 4: I just wonder when Buff Bagwell comes to town. I
• 28:29
Speaker 4: just wonder how many little kids are going to go
• 28:31
Speaker 4: out and say daddy.
• 28:33
  Speaker 3: I don't know about that, it's a possibility. I'm just saying, we.
• 28:37
Speaker 5: Are West Virginia's wrestling.
• 28:38
Speaker 3: Town, all right, Adam, I appreciate you being here. Thank you,
• 28:41
Speaker 3: Dave tim Brady is always a pleasure to have you
• 28:43
Speaker 3: on the show as well. Three o'clock, that's the time Saturday,
• 28:47
Speaker 3: Saturday afternoon. There will be some some chairs provided, but
• 28:51
Speaker 3: if you want to bring your own, that's fine.
• 28:53
  Speaker 4: Oh.
• 28:53
Speaker 3: We had a quick text here said I love to
• 28:55
Speaker 3: go to w CW matches at the Civic Center. Back
• 28:57
Speaker 3: at early to mid nineties, people would be shocked. How
• 29:00
Speaker 3: fans are women absolutely going back to Buff Bagwell again?
• 29:03
  Speaker 3: Then probably not.
• 29:04
Speaker 9: Hey, listen, my first show was February fourteenth, nineteen ninety
• 29:07
Speaker 9: two at the Coliseum and there was a lady next
• 29:09
Speaker 9: to me, and in the opening match, Harley Race was
• 29:11
Speaker 9: managing mister Hughes and he helped mister Hughes pick up
• 29:14
Speaker 9: the win. And this lady she was so mad she
• 29:16
Speaker 9: was yelling at the top of her lungs and win
• 29:17
Speaker 9: the match in and she said, chalk that one up
• 29:18
Speaker 9: to Harley Race. And I think that's where I learned
• 29:22
Speaker 9: to really just get engaged with the matches, you know.
• 29:24
Speaker 9: I mean, you can be yourself there or maybe be
• 29:25
Speaker 9: someone you've never been in your life. At a wrestling show,
• 29:27
Speaker 9: you can just let out all the troubles of your
• 29:30
Speaker 9: everyday life, forget about all the struggles anything that you
• 29:32
Speaker 9: might be going through. That's one of the reasons pro
• 29:34
Speaker 9: wrestling is so exciting and so popular is because you
• 29:37
Speaker 9: can just block out all the rest of that stuff
• 29:39
Speaker 9: and step into the world of professional wrestling.
• 29:40
Speaker 3: All right, three o'clock on Saturday, guys, I appreciate you
• 29:43
  Speaker 3: being here.
• 29:43
Speaker 5: Thank you last time.

• 33:03
Speaker 3: I've actually done some shows with Rick Flair and my

• 34:54
Speaker 3: Manchin is going to join us in studio on the
• 34:57
Speaker 3: show tomorrow. And always I always look forward to having
• 35:01
Speaker 3: having Senator Mansion on and he's in an interesting position
• 35:04
Speaker 3: in his life right now where he's doing things in
• 35:06
Speaker 3: a private sector. When I talked to him last week,
• 35:09
Speaker 3: he was actually in Canada a bigger limited cell phone coverage.
• 35:14
Speaker 3: But he's back. I was gonna say, he's back, Yeah,
• 35:16
  Speaker 3: he's he's back Stateside. I don't know when you're talking
• 35:19
Speaker 3: about Canada if that's accurate. I mean, I guess it is.
• 35:22
Speaker 3: But anyway, he'll be lower forty eight. The lower forty eight. Yes,
• 35:27
Speaker 3: thank you, Amy, Amy, Amy Breed Love who's going to
• 35:29
Speaker 3: be doing the show for me on Thursday. I appreciate that. Yeah, so,
• 35:33
Speaker 3: But I have a feeling Joe's going to want to
• 35:35
Speaker 3: weigh in on some of the things going on. I
• 35:37
Speaker 3: don't know what the status by Wednesday will be at
• 35:40
Speaker 3: the Big Beautiful Bill, but I have a feeling that
• 35:42
Speaker 3: former Senator Mansion is going to want to weigh in
• 35:44
Speaker 3: on that add some other things. So he'll be on
• 35:45
Speaker 3: the show coming up tomorrow. As I said, you do
• 35:48
Speaker 3: not want to miss anytime. Joe Manchion is whether he'll
• 35:50
Speaker 3: actually join us in studio tomorrow on this show tomorrow.
• 35:54
Speaker 3: The regatta isn't the only big Fourth of July event
• 35:57
Speaker 3: going on, it's certainly the biggest. But the folks in
• 35:59
Speaker 3: my town have heard, Hurri I've got big things going
• 36:01
Speaker 3: on on the fourth of July. We're going to talk
• 36:03
Speaker 3: to them about that on tomorrow's show. Also a lot
• 36:05
Speaker 3: of big news lately about West Virginia International Yeager Airport.
• 36:09
Speaker 3: The CEO of the airport, Domini Grenari, is going to
• 36:12
Speaker 3: join us on tomorrow's show. And remember I will not
• 36:14
Speaker 3: being doing the local show or the network show on Thursday.
• 36:18
Speaker 3: Amy breed Love, who you just heard from, voiceover artist extraordinaire,
• 36:22
Speaker 3: is going to play host for me on Thursday on
• 36:24
Speaker 3: the local show. That's going to be a show that's
• 36:26
Speaker 3: entirely devoted to the God. I think mayor a good
• 36:29
Speaker 3: one is going to become a buy and some other
• 36:31
Speaker 3: folks to kind of give us an overview of the
• 36:32
Speaker 3: regatta because it all starts on Thursday. So Amy will
• 36:36
Speaker 3: be in to handle that and Amanda Baron will stick around.
• 36:39
Speaker 3: Normally Amanda leaves it too, but she's actually going to
• 36:41
Speaker 3: stick around to the three o'clock hour before she goes
• 36:43
Speaker 3: off and does her other job at that little thing
• 36:45
Speaker 3: she does down the street. So that's coming up on
• 36:48
Speaker 3: Thursday show. As I will be taking the day off,
• 36:51
Speaker 3: I will be back next Monday. I will be on
• 36:52
Speaker 3: the show though tomorrow. The Dave Island Show on five

• 37:08
Speaker 3: I do want to go back to the announcement about
• 37:10
Speaker 3: the new facility in Bell and again the CEO of
• 37:13
Speaker 3: clean Seas that's the name of the company, John Yost,
• 37:16
Speaker 3: is going to join Amanda and Me on Metro News
• 37:19
Speaker 3: midday letter today. Cat Skelton writes about it at wv
• 37:22
Speaker 3: metronews dot com. It's located in the former eighty four
• 37:25
Speaker 3: Lumber building in Bell and they had the groundbreaking ceremonies
• 37:29
Speaker 3: there yesterday. So basically, as best I understand what they do,
• 37:32
Speaker 3: according to Kant's story, they take plastic pieces from landfills
• 37:37
Speaker 3: and convert them into clean feedstock with the eventual goal
• 37:41
Speaker 3: of producing what is called allied aqua TM hydrogen. I
• 37:48
Speaker 3: don't pretend to understand how any of that works, but
• 37:52
Speaker 3: a lot of people are high on them. And it
• 37:54
Speaker 3: basically breaks down the plastic into solids, liquids, and gases,
• 37:58
Speaker 3: and it keeps the plastics that have been in the
• 38:00
Speaker 3: landfill from just sitting there and turns them into something useful.
• 38:05
Speaker 3: Now it should create about forty jobs, they're saying, and
• 38:10
Speaker 3: it's supposed to be up and running by the end
• 38:11
Speaker 3: of the year. It is interesting to me, though, when
• 38:15
Speaker 3: we have these announcements, it seems like that it's kind
• 38:19
Speaker 3: of a I'm gonna say this, it's kind of an
• 38:23
Speaker 3: up and down because we will have an announcement about
• 38:27
Speaker 3: these jobs coming and this is in bell but in
• 38:29
Speaker 3: other areas of the state as well, But then we
• 38:31
Speaker 3: have announcements like we did last week about a couple
• 38:33
Speaker 3: of hundred coal miners losing their jobs from that facility,
• 38:37
Speaker 3: from that company that was based out of Raleigh County.
• 38:39
Speaker 3: Primarily Fayette County was going to be the hardest hit
• 38:42
Speaker 3: though by that. So it just seems like West Virginia
• 38:44
Speaker 3: just can't seem to gain any ground because one day
• 38:46
Speaker 3: we have an announcement about jobs coming, and the next day,
• 38:48
Speaker 3: excuse me, we have an announcement about jobs going away.
• 38:52
Speaker 3: And so we've gotta try to even those things out
• 38:55
Speaker 3: make that not occur that way. But just and just
• 39:01
Speaker 3: there seems to be again every day at groundbreaking and
• 39:04
Speaker 3: an announcement about some jobs lost. Of course, we saw
• 39:06
Speaker 3: the green power facility in South Charleston, and we don't
• 39:10
Speaker 3: know exactly what's going to happen happen there, but a
• 39:13
Speaker 3: lot of conflicting stories on the economic front in West Virginia.
• 39:17
Speaker 3: I will say this that the revenue numbers are due out.
• 39:20
Speaker 3: I think today with this being July first, and I
• 39:23
Speaker 3: think that the Revenue Secretary, mister Nelson is going to
• 39:27
Speaker 3: be on talkline tomorrow. We had some meetings today and
• 39:30
Speaker 3: he wasn't able to make talk line today. He will

• 40:40
Speaker 3: at the Marriott a while back. I never watched wrestling,
• 40:43
Speaker 3: but I knew who Rick Flair was. He was at
• 40:45
Speaker 3: the bar a few times. Hell of a good dude,
• 40:47
Speaker 3: big tipper. To get well soon, Champ says he Texter. Everybody,
• 40:53
Speaker 3: as I said, has got a Rick Flair story. When
• 40:55
Speaker 3: it comes to Charleston, everybody has got one. Amy, do
• 40:57
  Speaker 3: you have a.
• 40:58
Speaker 14: I just I know the name, and my husband's going
• 41:00
Speaker 14: to be very excited about this event.
• 41:03
Speaker 3: Sure that's the voice you hear again? Is Amy Breedlove?

Speaker 14: It's so hard. How I'm going to do your job?
• 41:19
Speaker 3: She said, tongue in cheek. Now we're going to be
• 41:22
Speaker 3: on Thursday show talking about the regatta, so the Mayor
• 41:25
Speaker 3: I will be here in others and so exciting. Not
• 41:27
Speaker 3: that you need help, because well, because you can. You
• 41:30
Speaker 3: got this, I'm pretty sure.
• 41:31
Speaker 14: And speaking of the building, as you were saying that,
• 41:33
Speaker 14: I was thinking, it's great seeing the building in downtown
• 41:36
Speaker 14: Charleston with the Polka Valley Bank and what is the
• 41:39
Speaker 14: large building right beside the river where Caskey was.
• 41:42
Speaker 3: Yes, TC, it's oddly oddly enough, you and I both
• 41:48
Speaker 3: had a brain lock at the same time because I,
• 41:50
Speaker 3: for some reason I could think, goodness, TJ. Meadows was
• 41:52
Speaker 3: in there taking up space.
• 41:53
  Speaker 14: But I haven't seen a crane like I was. My
• 41:56
Speaker 14: husband and I were driving by the other day and
• 41:58
Speaker 14: it's like we haven't seen like from scratch buildings since
• 42:00
Speaker 14: we were kids, and it's just it's exciting.
• 42:03
  Speaker 3: Yeah, it's I mean, there's a lot of great things
• 42:05
Speaker 3: going on in Charleston right now. A matter of fact,
• 42:07
Speaker 3: it's going to bring me to my next point that
• 42:09
Speaker 3: I was going to get to, So I'll get to

• 45:21
Speaker 3: And I don't know if you've caught this or not.
• 45:23
Speaker 3: In the various interviews that the mayor did on the
• 45:26
Speaker 3: show yesterday, she was on this show, she was on
• 45:30
Speaker 3: talk Line, she was our Mayor Monday subject on Metro
• 45:34
Speaker 3: News Midday. Of course we talk to a different mayor
• 45:36
Speaker 3: every Monday, and in that segment she was more or
• 45:38
Speaker 3: less selling Charleston. But we did get in for Gott
• 45:40
Speaker 3: to talk as well. She has She's laid it out
• 45:45
Speaker 3: pretty much and that I think I'm pretty sure she
• 45:49
Speaker 3: said this on the air. If not, I'm going to
• 45:50
Speaker 3: say it on the air. Hope I don't get in
• 45:51
Speaker 3: trouble with the mayor, but she is gonna run for
• 45:55
Speaker 3: reelection at least one more term. Next year is an
• 45:58
Speaker 3: election year in Charleston, and if she is re elected,
• 46:02
Speaker 3: she would be on her third term. And it's still early.
• 46:07
Speaker 3: Don't know if anyone plans on running against her, but
• 46:10
Speaker 3: I will say it would be very tough to beat
• 46:15
Speaker 3: Amy Goodwin in Charleston right now, as the last gentleman
• 46:20
Speaker 3: who ran against her found out. People in Charleston generally speaking,
• 46:26
Speaker 3: are very happy with the job that she has done,
• 46:30
Speaker 3: whether it was securing the sponsors to bring back Regatta
• 46:34
Speaker 3: or the Pro road Bike Championships that she worked with
• 46:38
Speaker 3: the cv B on. You know, no cities perfect by
• 46:42
Speaker 3: any stretch of the imagination, but there's a lot of
• 46:46
Speaker 3: positive energy going on in Charleston. I mentioned this a
• 46:49
Speaker 3: couple of days ago. I was when we launched Steve
• 46:54
Speaker 3: Animal from our sister station ninety eight seven Mountains Beer
• 46:57
Speaker 3: at Fife Street. A couple of fridays ago, I myself
• 47:01
Speaker 3: and Stephanie, one of our producers of Midday, we actually
• 47:03
Speaker 3: walked down from the station down to Fife Street because
• 47:07
Speaker 3: a new parking would be an issue, and it was
• 47:10
Speaker 3: a major issue, and even though it was hot, I'm
• 47:12
Speaker 3: kind of glad we walked. So we walked from the
• 47:13
Speaker 3: station down there in that area around Slack Plaza where
• 47:17
Speaker 3: five Street is, where some of the other places you
• 47:20
Speaker 3: couldn't have got another person on a Friday night. And
• 47:24
Speaker 3: you know, not to play class ism here, but it's
• 47:28
Speaker 3: the kind of people you wanted down there. It was
• 47:31
Speaker 3: a lot of professional type people, or were older people,
• 47:33
Speaker 3: or there were young people, people with kids, people playing
• 47:35
Speaker 3: music out on the street. There's a vibe going on
• 47:38
Speaker 3: to downtown Charles. Now is it perfect?
• 47:41
  Speaker 10: No?
• 47:41
Speaker 3: I mean, and the mayor or the police or anybody
• 47:44
Speaker 3: else here would tell you that. But there's an energy
• 47:48
Speaker 3: going on in the capital city right now. I've been
• 47:52
Speaker 3: doing this show for five years. Amy lives out of state,
• 47:55
Speaker 3: but she comes to visits us on summer. Comment on
• 47:58
Speaker 3: that a little bit. I mean, that's here half the
• 48:01
Speaker 3: year and gone half the year. Talk about it.
• 48:03
Speaker 14: It feels so positive this year. I mean, we've been
• 48:06
Speaker 14: doing the snowbirding thing for seven years now, and like
• 48:12
Speaker 14: I think Tim mentioned earlier each year or you said,
• 48:16
Speaker 14: you know, by year three, but I can tell a
• 48:18
Speaker 14: difference each year that things just become more positive, more beautiful,
• 48:23
Speaker 14: more fun, more exuberant.
• 48:27
Speaker 3: And somebody, I mean like with the with the revamping
• 48:29
Speaker 3: of the Colosseeem and Convention Center. I mean, we did
• 48:31
Speaker 3: the reds Caravan there back in January. There were three
• 48:35
Speaker 3: major events going on at the colos Seem Convention Center.
• 48:37
Speaker 3: At the same time. You had an A list country
• 48:40
Speaker 3: artist performing you had the Red's Caravan. Uh, and then
• 48:44
Speaker 3: there was another event for some reason, it escapes me
• 48:46
Speaker 3: so what it was, but there was. But you had
• 48:47
Speaker 3: three Josh Skates was here. You had three major events
• 48:51
Speaker 3: going on at one time in that particular build. Oh
• 48:55
Speaker 3: the Honeting and Fishing Show, that's what it was. Oh yeah,
• 48:57
Speaker 3: that was a honting. So you had the Honey and
• 48:58
Speaker 3: Fishing Show, you had the Red's Caravan, and you had
• 49:01
Speaker 3: an a list country singer all playing at the same
• 49:04
Speaker 3: time in one building. And that's something that wasn't going
• 49:08
Speaker 3: on ten years ago. And the people that are coming
• 49:12
Speaker 3: to the Clay Center and the revitalization of downtown, the
• 49:16
Speaker 3: closing down the streets for dining and things of that
• 49:19
Speaker 3: aturee again. And am I sitting here with rose colored
• 49:22
Speaker 3: glasses on and thinking everything in Charleston is perfect?
• 49:24
  Speaker 13: No?
• 49:24
Speaker 3: Absolutely not. There's issues. There's major issues. But my god,
• 49:27
Speaker 3: I'm gonna tell you, I've been doing this show for
• 49:29
Speaker 3: five years. It's a lot better than and that five
• 49:31
Speaker 3: years ago was a COVID year. I get that there's
• 49:33
Speaker 3: a lot of positive stuff going on and a lot
• 49:35
Speaker 3: of people moving into the area.
• 49:37
Speaker 14: I have a friend that just lived in she lived
• 49:40
Speaker 14: in Orlando for forty eight years, and she has family
• 49:43
Speaker 14: in Saint Albans, and she decided to move to Charleston
• 49:46
Speaker 14: because she loves the architecture, she loves the music scene.
• 49:50
Speaker 14: She's already been over to folklore music. I don't know
• 49:52
  Speaker 14: how many times. She's a guitarist, she's a singer. She's
• 49:55
Speaker 14: been on the road with the Indigo Girls, and she
• 49:57
Speaker 14: loves Charleston. So she's made her home here living in
• 50:01
Speaker 14: I think it's saying no Hurricane Hurricane, yes.
• 50:04
  Speaker 3: But loves it.
• 50:06
Speaker 14: Yeah, and I need to show her Mortar Man.
• 50:09
Speaker 3: A lot of good things going on, not only in Charleston,
• 50:11
Speaker 3: but I mean throughout the Kanawh Valley as well. We
• 50:13
Speaker 3: got issues, Absolutely, we have issues, but so does everywhere.
• 50:15
Speaker 14: I think my uncle used to say, there's room for improvement.
• 50:18
Speaker 3: Yeah, and I tell you there's some great things going
• 50:20
Speaker 3: on where I live in Day's Valley right now. You
• 50:22
Speaker 3: can't get another person in there, but we're trying.
• 50:24
Speaker 14: Gosh, I love valley naturals.
• 50:26
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's uh am I low to say that. Yeah,
• 50:28
Speaker 3: I don't care. You know, whatever you want. I'm going
• 50:30
Speaker 3: to be off on Thursday. And if you get fired,
• 50:32
Speaker 3: we'll just have dead air. You know, they'll just think,
• 50:34
Speaker 3: they'll just think I'm doing there. You can't fire somebody
• 50:36
Speaker 3: that doesn't work here, Amy, so you don't work here,
• 50:38
Speaker 3: so you know, so uh you know, there you go.
• 50:41
Speaker 3: But you did work here back.
• 50:42
Speaker 14: And then I did, yes, and I got fired, so
• 50:45
Speaker 14: you know, Okay, you know so. But I've heard that
• 50:47
Speaker 14: you actually make it in radio when you get fired.
• 50:50
Speaker 14: So there you go.
• 50:50
Speaker 3: Do you know I have to say, thirty seven years
• 50:52
Speaker 3: into business, fingers crossed, and today's still young. I've never
• 50:56
Speaker 3: been fired yet, not from the radio business anyway.
• 51:00
Speaker 14: Well, we don't want you've already made it.
• 51:03
  Speaker 3: I don't know. I mean we probably I can nave
• 51:05
Speaker 3: about four or five people in this building right now
• 51:07
Speaker 3: that have all been fired at one time or another.
• 51:09
Speaker 3: But that's we're forgiving lot in radio. TJ. Meadows did
• 51:13
Speaker 3: not get fired, Uh, did you g Yeah, Well the
• 51:16
Speaker 3: day's still young for you too.
• 51:17
Speaker 10: I've never been fired from this company, though, I don't
• 51:20
Speaker 10: have I ever been fired anywhere.
• 51:23
  Speaker 3: I don't know.
• 51:23
Speaker 10: I have to think about it.
• 51:24
Speaker 3: Okay, all right, it's not a big show today.
• 51:27
Speaker 10: I've failed many times. Just let me tell you that
• 51:29
Speaker 10: I have failed many times. And you know, honestly, if
• 51:31
Speaker 10: you haven't failed, you haven't tried.
• 51:33
  Speaker 3: That's a good point.
• 51:34
Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean you need to failure as a friend.
• 51:36
Speaker 10: And the sooner you realize that, the better off you're
• 51:39
Speaker 10: going to be, because everybody fails at one point or another.
• 51:41
Speaker 10: There my wisdom for the day. Jered Halpern, Fox News
