- 1:03Speaker 1: commission all right. Well here on the one Look Up Network,
- 1:56Speaker 1: I'm Alex Garrett. I know it's Christmas Eve, and I
- 1:58Speaker 1: know I said I probably would podcast tonight on Christmas
- 2:01Speaker 1: Eve to just take it easy, But I've got a
- 2:04Speaker 1: big story to talk about because cancer patients are getting
- 2:09Speaker 1: a huge Christmas gift thanks to a deal between Anthem,
- 2:13Speaker 1: Blue Cross and Blue Shield A Memorial Sloan Kettering as
- 2:17Speaker 1: they have reached a deal to secure coverage for cancer patients.
- 2:22Speaker 1: As the story writes, Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield A
- 2:26Speaker 1: Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center have reached a deal that
- 2:29Speaker 1: keeps the premier cancer treatment system in network, which helps
- 2:33Speaker 1: patients maximize coverage. And as tragic as December fourth was twenty.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Days ago already, is it.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Possible that out of that tragedy comes a change where
- 2:51Speaker 1: these networks are starting to realize they cannot deny claims
- 2:57Speaker 1: much longer, especially for those who have cancer. And I'm
- 3:06Speaker 1: just so happy to report that Anthem, Blue Cross, Blue
- 3:09Speaker 1: Shield is actually saying these cancer patients can be in
- 3:17Speaker 1: network of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Under Cuz.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Can you imagine having cancer and not having anywhere to turn,
- 3:26Speaker 1: and then when you do turn to someone, it's out
- 3:28Speaker 1: of the network.
- 3:29Speaker 2: We've all had that out of network experience and it sucks.
- 3:37Speaker 2: But this Christmas and Hanukkah.
- 3:43Speaker 1: There has been a big gift of a deal because
- 3:47Speaker 1: here's how Nancy Cutler and Ashton Stockler of Low hod Right.
- 3:55Speaker 1: If a deal hadn't been reached, people with Anthem coverage
- 3:59Speaker 1: would have faced costly out of network fees for care
- 4:02Speaker 1: at Memorial Sloan Kettering as of March first, twenty twenty five.
- 4:07Speaker 1: And I'm the scariest thing because I had undergone something similar,
- 4:11Speaker 1: which whether my doctor was in coverage or not, is
- 4:16Speaker 1: where do we.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Get the care? That's the next question. And it's a
- 4:22Speaker 2: scary thing to possibly lose the coverage. So it's a
- 4:26Speaker 2: sigh of relief.
- 4:27Speaker 1: It's a big victory, and it's worth reporting here on
- 4:30Speaker 1: Christmas Eve that God is continuing to work his magic
- 4:36Speaker 1: and his omnipotent power as we honor Christ's birth. The
- 4:48Speaker 1: story gets even better. The deal we'll ensure about twenty
- 4:52Speaker 1: two thousand active patients can continue uninterrupted.
- 4:57Speaker 2: At MSK uninterrupted treatment care.
- 5:01Speaker 1: At Memorial Sloan Kettering, said MSK President and CEO doctor
- 5:07Speaker 1: Selwyn Vickers. And you can read some of the stories
- 5:15Speaker 1: of different patients of memorials Sloan Kettering in this language.
- 5:20Speaker 1: In the description below, But congratulations to the cancer patients
- 5:27Speaker 1: that finally here are heard, that finally get their voice
- 5:32Speaker 1: heard and get the.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Coverage they need. That is a huge Christmas HONUK gift
- 5:38Speaker 2: to report this week.
- 5:42Speaker 1: The agreement sets forth a multi year fee schedule between
- 5:45Speaker 1: the insurer and health system, and thee will have continued
- 5:48Speaker 1: in network access to care at MSK hospital, outpatient care
- 5:52Speaker 1: centers and physician offices across New York and the surrounding area.
- 6:03Speaker 1: So in the last few weeks alone, we saw anthems
- 6:06Speaker 1: specifically take off the table the idea of denying anesthesia
- 6:13Speaker 1: coverage and come to this agreement. You know, a Christmas
- 6:22Speaker 1: Carol was based around three ghosts that came to haunt
- 6:29Speaker 1: Ebenezer Scrooge, and I mentioned that because Dickens had it
- 6:35Speaker 1: set to start tonight on Christmas Eve, was.
- 6:38Speaker 2: The whole kickoff.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Because Robert Marley died, not because Jacob Marley died, I
- 6:47Speaker 1: should say, seven years ago, this very Christmas Eve.
- 6:53Speaker 2: That's how the book starts.
- 6:56Speaker 1: And I wonder if in one foul, condemnable, horrible act,
- 7:08Speaker 1: those three spirits woke up insurance companies.
- 7:13Speaker 2: To do better for their patients. As I'm sure these.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Patients were running out of patients, and yet here we
- 7:29Speaker 1: are Christmas Eve twenty twenty four talking about this incredible
- 7:34Speaker 1: deal that was struck to support cancer patients and to
- 7:41Speaker 1: make sure they have in network coverage and we can
- 7:44Speaker 1: go for cancer patients, Let's make sure all patients of
- 7:49Speaker 1: any kind can have in network access and only adapting
- 7:56Speaker 1: with Alex Garrett podcast, that's my.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Christmas wish, my honka.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Wish that that in network care can expand beyond just
- 8:08Speaker 1: cancer patients, but all who need the care in whatever
- 8:12Speaker 1: they're dealing with because out of network coverage.
- 8:18Speaker 2: I've dealt with that. I'm sure you have two and
- 8:20Speaker 2: it's not fun. So let's make sure we have a better.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Understanding of what's in network from our insurance companies, as
- 8:29Speaker 1: well as making sure that there isn't a work to
- 8:32Speaker 1: turn to. Thank you Anthem, Blue Cross, Blue Shield, and
- 8:38Speaker 1: thank you Memorial Solm Kettering.
- 8:40Speaker 2: For giving this Christmas gift to twenty two thousand cancer patients.
- 8:49Speaker 1: And I leaving a lot of stress in what's already
- 8:53Speaker 1: a stressful time for some. This could be a new
- 8:59Speaker 1: lease on life and isn't that what Christmas is?
- 9:04Speaker 2: A rebirth? To honor the birth of Christ. Every Christmas
- 9:13Speaker 2: feels like.
- 9:13Speaker 1: A new lease on life, a new renewal of spirit.
- 9:19Speaker 1: And for twenty two thousand cancer patients, they've just had
- 9:22Speaker 1: a renewal of coverage that was in four months of negotiation.
- 9:37Speaker 1: So you have to wonder what sea changes are coming
- 9:39Speaker 1: up for other insurance companies after the tragic shooting of
- 9:47Speaker 1: Brian Thompson a'hm Alex Garrett, Merry Christmas and we will talk.
- 9:57Speaker 2: To you after Christmas. You're on the one, the GUP
- 10:02Speaker 2: Network
