- 0:00Speaker 1: Let's return to the conference that won September. The SEC,
- 0:04Speaker 1: this is presented by PrizePix. LSU takes care of business
- 0:08Speaker 1: against Texas A & M in a game where it
- 0:10Speaker 1: was really both teams needed the win, and Texas A
- 0:14Speaker 1: & M seemed allergic to potentially winning this game. Marcel
- 0:18Speaker 1: Reed played maybe his worst game as a starting quarterback,
- 0:21Speaker 1: and that's dating back to even his first year as
- 0:23Speaker 1: a starting quarterback where.
- 0:24Speaker 2: It was baby deer legs. This was rough. Granted, it
- 0:28Speaker 2: was in Death Valley.
- 0:29Speaker 1: LSU is dealing with some injuries that we're going to
- 0:32Speaker 1: have to keep an eye on going forward. Obviously, Sam
- 0:34Speaker 1: Levitt was hobbled in this game. Whit Weeks looks like
- 0:36Speaker 1: he's going to miss four to six weeks.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Fractured legs, though. Not season-ending, but he's gone for a while.
- 0:41Speaker 3: So both your number sevens are out.
- 0:43Speaker 2: That's a big hit. That's a pretty big hit. What
- 0:45Speaker 2: did we learn from this game, really?
- 0:48Speaker 3: There's a finite line of where I think LSU is
- 0:52Speaker 3: as an offense. But when it's good, it's damn good.
- 0:55Speaker 3: I mean, again, you talk about the numbers. 506 yards
- 0:59Speaker 3: of offense against a Mike Elko defense. Now, Mike Elko
- 1:03Speaker 3: defense is far from anything of what we've seen this year.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Let's just be completely honest. But it still is a
- 1:08Speaker 3: defensive-minded coach that is known for being able to get
- 1:10Speaker 3: the best version of his team out, especially with a
- 1:13Speaker 3: quarterback like Marcel Reed going up against Blake Baker. Lo
- 1:17Speaker 3: and behold, the last two times that these two have
- 1:18Speaker 3: done battle, Marcel Reed's been the best quarterback in that
- 1:22Speaker 3: game because of his mobility. And it was a 506-197 differential.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Passed it for 312 yards. Landon Clark came on in.
- 1:30Speaker 3: You didn't miss a beat when it came to the
- 1:32Speaker 3: offensive identity. You ran it for 194 yards. You averaged
- 1:36Speaker 3: five yards a clip. Multiple running backs were able to
- 1:38Speaker 3: go off. Dylan Jones didn't have 100 yards, but it
- 1:41Speaker 3: didn't really matter because you were able to get everybody involved.
- 1:44Speaker 3: I think that you found that there was more than
- 1:45Speaker 3: just the trade-as-green effect in the passing game. Jackson Harris
- 1:48Speaker 3: with that big fourth-and-one call where it looks like it's
- 1:51Speaker 3: going to be a punt. Never mind, it's a house
- 1:53Speaker 3: call for a gain of 57 yards. He goes off
- 1:57Speaker 3: for 163. Winston Watkins on the outside says, I got you, coach.
- 2:01Speaker 3: I came with you from Oxford up Baton Rouge. Let
- 2:04Speaker 3: me show you why it was worth it. He gets
- 2:05Speaker 3: 107 yards. And the offense played in a very stable
- 2:10Speaker 3: system and made it clear that they were just going
- 2:12Speaker 3: to do whatever they wanted to against Texas A &
- 2:14Speaker 3: M' s defense. And you couldn't stop it. And defensively, they
- 2:17Speaker 3: played really well. They got after Whitley. They got after
- 2:20Speaker 3: Marcel Reed. Then they got after Brady Hart, two interceptions
- 2:25Speaker 3: on the day. Four sacks, seven Tigers for loss. Couldn't
- 2:29Speaker 3: get anything going with the run game. They averaged less
- 2:31Speaker 3: than three yards of play. Mario Craver was out the
- 2:34Speaker 3: entire second half, and that kind of hurt the team overall.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Nobody had more than 40-plus yards receiving for Texas A
- 2:41Speaker 3: & M. And LSU was right back in the conversation
- 2:44Speaker 3: of still being a playoff threat. I don't know if
- 2:46Speaker 3: they're entirely there, because you've got to get healthy. Losing
- 2:49Speaker 3: a guy like Whit Weeks is a big deal. Not
- 2:52Speaker 3: having a trade as green is always going to hurt
- 2:54Speaker 3: you in the intermediate. The saddest is Sam Leavitt, which,
- 2:56Speaker 3: by the way, Sam Leavitt plays football like a gerbil
- 3:00Speaker 3: on adrenaline and bath salts because he literally is not
- 3:03Speaker 3: afraid to just watch himself explode. It's going to hurt
- 3:06Speaker 3: his team, but honestly, at the same time, it's how
- 3:08Speaker 3: he plays. It now has put them in a position
- 3:11Speaker 3: where maybe Landon Clark is going to have to start
- 3:13Speaker 3: in a game or two. But maybe you feel good
- 3:15Speaker 3: about where this offense is, that everyone's stepping on up
- 3:17Speaker 3: at the right time.
- 3:18Speaker 2: It's better.
- 3:19Speaker 3: LSU, I don't think, is back to a level of
- 3:22Speaker 3: where we can say guaranteed to go to the playoff.
- 3:24Speaker 3: But I will say, you maybe feel better than how
- 3:27Speaker 3: you did after that game against a team like Ole Miss.
- 3:30Speaker 3: That's the main thing. You got a palate cleanser against
- 3:33Speaker 3: a Mike Elko roster that is reeling at the wrong time.
- 3:35Speaker 3: That's what I think is the big takeaway here.
- 3:37Speaker 4: Just a real quick break from the video to tell you,
- 3:39Speaker 4: go check out the PrizePix app. We tell you about
- 3:41Speaker 4: them all the time, but all new users over there
- 3:43Speaker 4: who play $ 5 get $ 150 in lineups instantly if they win.
- 3:48Speaker 4: using code HMA on their first lineup. It's not just lineups, though.
- 3:52Speaker 4: It's team picks as well. You've got the Heisman odds
- 3:55Speaker 4: right here. Those continue to update. Trinidad, number one. You've
- 3:58Speaker 4: got Darian Mensah up there at number two. Camario Taylor,
- 4:02Speaker 4: shout out Mississippi State, number three. You've got Jeremiah Smith,
- 4:05Speaker 4: CJ Carr, Jaden Baugh, all the way up to number six.
- 4:08Speaker 4: Arch Manning, Gunnar Stockton, Julian Sayen, Malachi Toney, Will Hammond,
- 4:12Speaker 4: a ton of names here. You can go play team
- 4:14Speaker 4: picks as well. You can take first team to score.
- 4:16Speaker 4: You can take a bunch of different picks on the
- 4:20Speaker 4: PrizePicks app. Go check them out. We appreciate them for
- 4:23Speaker 4: their support. Now back to the clip on the Power 2.
- 4:26Speaker 2: You get McNeese this coming week.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Yeah, so Landon Clark's starting that game.
- 4:31Speaker 1: The juggernaut known as McNeese, and then you're at Kentucky.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Kentucky has shown that they're going to be feisty this season.
- 4:37Speaker 1: That's the team we talked about in the offseason as
- 4:39Speaker 1: somebody that can jump up and get some teams, and
- 4:41Speaker 1: then you've got to deal with Kamario Taylor on October 17th.
- 4:45Speaker 2: You're at Auburn on October 24th.
- 4:47Speaker 1: You will play Alabama and Texas at home in back-to-back weeks.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Then you go to kneel in the face Tennessee. You
- 4:53Speaker 1: finish the year at Arkansas. So it doesn't get easier
- 4:57Speaker 1: for LSU, and now you're worrying about their health, but
- 5:00Speaker 1: that's just something to keep an eye on, and this
- 5:01Speaker 1: was a get-right game, it felt like, in a lot
- 5:03Speaker 1: of ways.
- 5:04Speaker 2: And it didn't feel like.
- 5:06Speaker 1: A get-right game going into it because it felt like
- 5:08Speaker 1: both teams were needed to win going into this to just.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Correct course for the rest of the way.
- 5:13Speaker 1: I look at Texas A & M now, and I
- 5:16Speaker 1: don't know what the hell to make of this team.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Because as I mentioned, Marcel Reed played probably his worst
- 5:23Speaker 1: game as a quarterback. I don't understand what is going
- 5:27Speaker 1: on with him from a passing mechanic standpoint. Every time
- 5:30Speaker 1: you watch him on tape, there seems to be immense
- 5:34Speaker 1: indecision with everything he's looking at to the point that
- 5:37Speaker 1: As he's releasing the football, it looks like he's second-guessing himself,
- 5:41Speaker 1: and that's probably what's leading to the ball hitting the
- 5:43Speaker 1: dirt before his receiver is even remotely close to it
- 5:46Speaker 1: or hitting his receiver's feet. I don't think going to
- 5:50Speaker 1: Brady Hart is necessarily going to make things better, but
- 5:53Speaker 1: is it going to be a situation where the first prominent,
- 5:57Speaker 1: I guess, prominent starting quarterback within the SEC or within
- 6:00Speaker 1: college football is benched middle of this year? I don't
- 6:04Speaker 1: know if that fixes anything for Texas A & M.
- 6:07Speaker 3: It's not the offense only, though, Tom. I think that's
- 6:09Speaker 3: the main thing is that everyone wants to look at
- 6:11Speaker 3: it being the offense of, well, Marcel Reed is awful
- 6:13Speaker 3: and we can't get a good offensive line and the
- 6:15Speaker 3: run game can't generate anything. Mike Elko's defenses have been
- 6:19Speaker 3: known for producing high-profile elite pass rushers in the SEC. Tom,
- 6:24Speaker 3: they will close out the month of September with four sacks.
- 6:27Speaker 3: That's not a thing that you should ever hear when
- 6:30Speaker 3: Mike Elko's name is brought up in conversation. Ever.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Ever.
- 6:34Speaker 3: And you went out and you spent money in the
- 6:35Speaker 3: transfer portal to get guys who are going to be
- 6:37Speaker 3: difference makers on the defensive line. And they're not getting
- 6:39Speaker 3: after quarterbacks. And so what happens when you don't get
- 6:42Speaker 3: after quarterbacks? It leads time for wide receivers to break
- 6:44Speaker 3: on open downfield. And I thought that Reed Harris in
- 6:47Speaker 3: the game against Arizona State, that was an outlier. Guy
- 6:50Speaker 3: goes off for a buck 86. He's winning with the explosives.
- 6:53Speaker 3: Maybe it's just you have an off day. Des Ricks
- 6:56Speaker 3: was a guy that people said going into this game
- 6:58Speaker 3: was a shutdown corner because he barely was targeted. We
- 7:01Speaker 3: got targeted for like five catches and 97 yards and
- 7:04Speaker 3: gave up two touchdowns. I mean, like at that point,
- 7:07Speaker 3: it shows you even when you get guys that you
- 7:09Speaker 3: think are damn good, they can let you down. And
- 7:12Speaker 3: the worst part about all of this is that I
- 7:15Speaker 3: don't know where it can be corrected. You can't just
- 7:17Speaker 3: instantaneously go into the college football transfer portal in the
- 7:21Speaker 3: middle of October and say, here's a guy that we're
- 7:23Speaker 3: going to claim off of waivers and now he is
- 7:25Speaker 3: going to be a difference maker for us. Or go
- 7:27Speaker 3: offer an NIL check for somebody who's at San Diego
- 7:30Speaker 3: State or Wyoming and has five or six sacks and
- 7:33Speaker 3: go play for us the rest of the season to
- 7:35Speaker 3: fix this problem. This is what your roster is. And
- 7:38Speaker 3: if you can't get into the quarterback, it's going to
- 7:40Speaker 3: lead to more explosives downfield. And if you can't put
- 7:42Speaker 3: up points, then you're going to be outscored. And even
- 7:45Speaker 3: if your defense gives up one touchdown, it may be enough.
- 7:49Speaker 3: There's so many faults with this team, the current regime
- 7:51Speaker 3: of the coaching staff, and a lot of the execution
- 7:54Speaker 3: that wasn't there a season ago. And yes, you can
- 7:57Speaker 3: blame the offense. The offense is not good. Marcel Reed
- 8:00Speaker 3: is not going anywhere. He will be your starting quarterback
- 8:02Speaker 3: for the rest of the season, which probably means, if
- 8:05Speaker 3: we're just being honest, this is going to be an 8-4,
- 8:08Speaker 3: 7-5 campaign.
- 8:09Speaker 2: That's just where we are.
- 8:12Speaker 3: But you have to realize the faults of this team
- 8:16Speaker 3: right now can be solved in the offseason when you
- 8:19Speaker 3: don't make the playoff. And sometimes I do think that
- 8:21Speaker 3: there is a negative about going to the playoff. And
- 8:24Speaker 3: that is that you can't make some of the moves
- 8:26Speaker 3: when your coaches are necessarily leaving for other jobs. Losing
- 8:29Speaker 3: Colin Klein and just internally promoting Holman Wiggins without a
- 8:33Speaker 3: second thought probably wasn't the smartest idea for this team.
- 8:37Speaker 3: But unfortunately, you had to do it at the time
- 8:39Speaker 3: because you didn't want to lose what was currently on staff.
- 8:41Speaker 3: You didn't want to lose what was currently around for
- 8:43Speaker 3: the team long term. And so because of that, now
- 8:47Speaker 3: you're sitting here and kind of paying the benefits of it.
- 8:49Speaker 3: You have an offseason to get this right, get better
- 8:52Speaker 3: at developing talent on the offensive line, find defensive players
- 8:55Speaker 3: that you can win with when it comes to pass rush,
- 8:58Speaker 3: ability rate, all those little details. But this is not
- 9:02Speaker 3: solvable this season. And I'll tell you what, one game
- 9:05Speaker 3: that I think is going to be an absolute snooze
- 9:06Speaker 3: fest and one that we never thought would have been
- 9:09Speaker 3: uttered at the start of the season. That Oklahoma-Texas A
- 9:13Speaker 3: & M game.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Oh, God, yeah.
- 9:17Speaker 3: That's going to be like Michigan-Nebraska.
- 9:18Speaker 2: I mean, Michigan-Iowa. You bite your tongue, sir.
- 9:22Speaker 3: That's going to be a down. You know what? How
- 9:25Speaker 3: dare I even go that far? That is going to
- 9:27Speaker 3: be a sham of Michigan-Iowa.
- 9:30Speaker 2: That's Kirkland brand version.
- 9:31Speaker 1: In order for it to be Michigan-Iowa, both teams would
- 9:34Speaker 1: have to play good defense. And Texas A & M
- 9:36Speaker 1: doesn't play good defense. So we're dealing with this. I
- 9:40Speaker 1: was just glancing at Texas A & M' s schedule, and
- 9:42Speaker 1: it's like, all right, you play Arkansas next week at home.
- 9:47Speaker 3: You should.
- 9:48Speaker 1: I don't expect Arkansas to bow up and beat Texas
- 9:51Speaker 1: A & M at Kyle Field. But right now, you
- 9:54Speaker 1: can't rule anything out. The game at Mizzou on October 10th,
- 9:57Speaker 1: Austin Simmons can have some fun in that game, couldn't he?
- 10:01Speaker 1: The Citadel game.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Yeah, you should win that game.
- 10:03Speaker 1: And then the rest of the way at Alabama, at
- 10:06Speaker 1: South Carolina, which could that just be a dead man
- 10:10Speaker 1: walking Gamecocks team at that point? Entirely possible. you're playing
- 10:14Speaker 1: Tennessee at home. You're at Oklahoma to your point. End
- 10:16Speaker 1: of the season is that's on November 21st. And then
- 10:19Speaker 1: you end the season against maybe the best team in
- 10:22Speaker 1: the country in Texas, like seven to five, six and
- 10:25Speaker 1: six is entirely possible. And if there's injuries and if
- 10:28Speaker 1: things really go off the rail, if this team starts
- 10:30Speaker 1: to quit and you start dropping games like the Mizzou game,
- 10:34Speaker 1: you drop the game like the South Carolina game, South Carolina.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Game, excuse me, then you're in real trouble.
- 10:39Speaker 1: And I'm not saying this is a situation where Mike
- 10:41Speaker 1: Elko is going to fired or anything like that. But
- 10:44Speaker 1: it does put the pressure on Texas A & M
- 10:47Speaker 1: moving into the offseason. We've got to figure some stuff out.
- 10:50Speaker 1: We've got to spend. There's got to be a lot
- 10:53Speaker 1: of spending to fix this because it's on both sides
- 10:56Speaker 1: of the ball and it's also the coaching staff. And
- 10:58Speaker 1: I think Mike Elko is maybe going to be in
- 11:00Speaker 1: a situation where he's going to have to fire a
- 11:02Speaker 1: lot of people.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Yeah, no, Mike Elko is not going anywhere. Mike Elko
- 11:05Speaker 3: is going to be your head coach.
- 11:06Speaker 2: For 2027 and beyond. I believe in Mike Elko.
- 11:08Speaker 3: I do. And by the way, let me just remind
- 11:11Speaker 3: everybody who are part of this 12th man group that
- 11:13Speaker 3: now want Mike Elko thrown to the fire and to
- 11:15Speaker 3: the wolves. Where were you with Jimbo Fisher? Because of
- 11:20Speaker 3: what I know is that Jimbo Fisher and Mike Elko
- 11:22Speaker 3: have had the same faults, but it's been one season
- 11:25Speaker 3: of Mike Elko looking like this. Not multiple years of ineptitude.
- 11:29Speaker 3: Mike Elko got you to the playoffs and went 11-1,
- 11:32Speaker 3: which by the way, you haven't been 11-1 since your
- 11:34Speaker 3: first season in the SEC. So I think that you
- 11:37Speaker 3: got the right guy at the helm. Unfortunately, you may
- 11:39Speaker 3: have to fire your sous-sheriff and a bunch of other
- 11:41Speaker 3: people that work behind the kitchen for you to get
- 11:43Speaker 3: a better staff and get.
- 11:44Speaker 2: That Michelin star.
- 11:45Speaker 3: That's really where we are at this point. You'll be
- 11:48Speaker 3: fine in 2027 and beyond. You have people that hopefully
- 11:51Speaker 3: you'll see develop and turn into more dominant factors for
- 11:55Speaker 3: your team. But the reality is that when you become
- 11:58Speaker 3: so portal dependent and you're not developing on talent, sometimes
- 12:01Speaker 3: you miss. And the bottom line is that with the
- 12:03Speaker 3: players that A & M went out and brought in
- 12:05Speaker 3: via the portal, a lot of them have not hit.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Isaiah Horton has. That's what you can hold your hat
- 12:12Speaker 3: on right now. Isaiah Horton.
