- 0:00Speaker 1: And the fans begin to stand and applaud a head fakes.
- 0:02Speaker 1: Galladay puts up one no good rebound tipped up by Arnold.
- 0:06Speaker 1: She grabs it and that's it. Game set Big East
- 0:11Speaker 1: Championship for you. Con seventy two fifty three of the
- 0:17Speaker 1: final here at the Excel Center, as UCN for the
- 0:21Speaker 1: fifth straight time since returning the league, win the outrights
- 0:26Speaker 1: Big East Regular Season Championship.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Back here at the Excel Center.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Chris Daly has joined us court side for the daily
- 0:34Speaker 1: recap and congratulations on another marathon win. You take the
- 0:38Speaker 1: Marathon for the twenty fourth time in the Big East
- 0:42Speaker 1: and the thirty first overall, and it never ever gets old.
- 0:45Speaker 3: No, we have always put that as one of our goals.
- 0:49Speaker 3: You know, you can't go further, you your first goal
- 0:52Speaker 3: is always regular season championship.
- 0:54Speaker 4: And we did it and we pay, you know.
- 0:58Speaker 3: And it's actually fitting that we played Creighton because they're
- 1:01Speaker 3: the second best team in the league and they're difficult
- 1:04Speaker 3: to play.
- 1:04Speaker 4: I mean, they're there.
- 1:05Speaker 3: We did a really good job on them, and it
- 1:07Speaker 3: still felt like the game was a lot closer than
- 1:09Speaker 3: it was.
- 1:10Speaker 5: And talk about that, like the game plan going in
- 1:12Speaker 5: and how you executed it and the fact it was
- 1:15Speaker 5: a slow start. But then what was it that ignited
- 1:19Speaker 5: the role?
- 1:19Speaker 3: Well, you know, our defense was good the entire game,
- 1:22Speaker 3: and certainly in the first quarter it was, but we
- 1:25Speaker 3: were playing a little chaotic on the offensive end, and
- 1:28Speaker 3: I think that started when we were missing some shots
- 1:30Speaker 3: that we would normally make. So I think that so
- 1:32Speaker 3: in the first quarter we shot twenty six percent, but
- 1:35Speaker 3: then we from a floor, second quarter sixty two, third
- 1:38Speaker 3: quarter seventy three, and then we went backwards in the
- 1:40Speaker 3: fourth quarter back to first the way we shot it
- 1:42Speaker 3: in the first quarter. So but that I think we
- 1:45Speaker 3: just were a little a little out of sort of
- 1:47Speaker 3: little chaotic, trying it to want to make something happen
- 1:49Speaker 3: in missing shots that we would normally make.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Once again, Creighton has no answers for Sarah Strung at
- 1:54Speaker 1: either end.
- 1:55Speaker 2: She was fabulous tonight.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, I don't I and I hesitate to
- 2:00Speaker 3: say this. I don't think it was one of her
- 2:02Speaker 3: best games.
- 2:04Speaker 2: A big picture you're talking here, right, Yeah, but then
- 2:07Speaker 2: you look.
- 2:07Speaker 3: At the number and you go, oh, yeah, but I
- 2:10Speaker 3: guess expect.
- 2:11Speaker 4: Those Well I think, right, she can do that. Yeah,
- 2:14Speaker 4: she does.
- 2:14Speaker 3: She makes you know, I think coach always says great
- 2:18Speaker 3: players make the hard things look easy and and and
- 2:22Speaker 3: the easy things I always look easier, and she certainly does.
- 2:25Speaker 5: That, right, I get to say as much as you know,
- 2:28Speaker 5: maybe if Turner was here there, but then then she
- 2:30Speaker 5: comes up these steals or a block or closes out
- 2:32Speaker 5: that three point line, and she has her own havoc
- 2:35Speaker 5: to whether it's a guard or a post player. And
- 2:37Speaker 5: maybe is that you often talk about too, Like with
- 2:39Speaker 5: Paige n like to move without the ball. She seems
- 2:42Speaker 5: to find herself open under that.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Yeah, and that was part of the issue, you know,
- 2:46Speaker 3: when we were struggling on the offensive end, was the
- 2:48Speaker 3: lack of movement on the offensive end. We were standing
- 2:52Speaker 3: and you can't do that against the team like then
- 2:53Speaker 3: they you know, they choose to to guard some people
- 2:57Speaker 3: tighter than others, They switch a lot, and you have,
- 2:59Speaker 3: you know, you you need to move to be able
- 3:01Speaker 3: to take advantage of that of playing that way.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Fifteen steals in the game. Four of your players had
- 3:05Speaker 1: three steals in the game, twenty one points off turnovers
- 3:09Speaker 1: in the first half alone, And I think I got
- 3:12Speaker 1: to give some credit. I mean, your defense on the
- 3:14Speaker 1: press was good. Creighton had all sorts of issues getting
- 3:17Speaker 1: the ball and bounds, and boy you made him pay.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Yeah, the pressure I thought really created some of the
- 3:23Speaker 3: opportunities that we had, and just getting our hands on
- 3:27Speaker 3: on on every loose ball and forcing some turnover. Some
- 3:30Speaker 3: I think they helped us with on their own, but
- 3:32Speaker 3: I think we forced them too.
- 3:34Speaker 5: Can you talk then about, you know, capping it off,
- 3:38Speaker 5: you get to have some confetti fall down.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Well, I have to say that could be the saddest
- 3:43Speaker 3: confetti I have ever seen. They didn't either they needed
- 3:49Speaker 3: to move us closer to it, or they needed to
- 3:51Speaker 3: move the confetti on to the court so that we could.
- 3:55Speaker 4: They had more.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Nearly They didn't listen, they didn't.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Know, they didn't ask me. But you know, it's great
- 4:01Speaker 3: for the players. Although typical yukon fession, we left the
- 4:05Speaker 3: trophy at half court. We had to send Janna back
- 4:07Speaker 3: to go get it.
- 4:08Speaker 2: It's like not cutting down the heck.
- 4:10Speaker 4: It's yeah.
- 4:10Speaker 3: So, And that's not that we don't appreciate it or
- 4:13Speaker 3: that we don't put an emphasis on it, because we do.
- 4:17Speaker 3: It's just that I think how we feel and how
- 4:21Speaker 3: we know we've played and what we know we have
- 4:23Speaker 3: to do next is probably more important than the hardware
- 4:26Speaker 3: at this point.
- 4:27Speaker 1: All right, let me get your thoughts on the retirements
- 4:29Speaker 1: of number three, whose number eventually will be retired in
- 4:33Speaker 1: gamble pavilion, no question.
- 4:35Speaker 4: You know what what hasn't been said?
- 4:39Speaker 3: You know, I think all the all the comments that
- 4:43Speaker 3: were said, you know, Gino especially, there's nobody like her.
- 4:48Speaker 4: You know, I think.
- 4:52Speaker 3: I've never wanted to say, oh, who's the best player,
- 4:54Speaker 3: but push comes to shove, I've always said it was
- 4:56Speaker 3: Diana because of those two because are those two championships
- 5:01Speaker 3: that she want. And it's not like she didn't have
- 5:03Speaker 3: good players on the team with her, but the way
- 5:07Speaker 3: she makes that she raises the level of everybody that
- 5:11Speaker 3: she plays with and the way she makes them feel
- 5:13Speaker 3: which allows them to continue to get better and win
- 5:17Speaker 3: at every level she's ever played at. You know, I
- 5:20Speaker 3: think that separates her. And some of that could be
- 5:21Speaker 3: positionally because she has the ball in her hands, But
- 5:25Speaker 3: I don't know what else she could say. You know,
- 5:27Speaker 3: she's just she transcends the sports people. You know, she's
- 5:31Speaker 3: the kind of person that you always want on your team.
- 5:34Speaker 3: You don't want to play against her because she is.
- 5:36Speaker 2: A Thus we have Gina that we have Diana, and
- 5:40Speaker 2: you don't.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, but just I mean even when you talk
- 5:43Speaker 3: to you listen to some of the w NBA players,
- 5:45Speaker 3: and I think Nefisa said, well stories, they wanted stories.
- 5:49Speaker 3: She said, well, I have stories from when she was
- 5:51Speaker 3: my teammate, and then I have stories when I play
- 5:53Speaker 3: against her, because it's they're.
- 5:55Speaker 4: Two totally different.
- 5:56Speaker 3: But I don't know that there's anybody that love playing
- 6:00Speaker 3: the game more than Diana did. Was in the gym
- 6:03Speaker 3: more than Diana, played with an edge but with an
- 6:07Speaker 3: enthusiasm at the same time.
- 6:10Speaker 4: And for her to say that, you know that was it.
- 6:14Speaker 3: You just knew she wasn't going to be able to
- 6:15Speaker 3: do what she wanted you to be prepared to be
- 6:18Speaker 3: in the gym to do all that. So I'm happy
- 6:20Speaker 3: for I think it's great. I'm surprised she even made
- 6:23Speaker 3: the announcement. They probably made her right, because that's not
- 6:28Speaker 3: really like her. But did you see the Whoopie Goldberg
- 6:31Speaker 3: thing the interview.
- 6:31Speaker 2: I heard they mispronounced her.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Goldberg and when she sat down, she said, thanks for
- 6:37Speaker 3: having me, and then she called her something like she
- 6:40Speaker 3: called her single her Whoopie. She called her Whippie and
- 6:43Speaker 3: then she said, I'm sorry, I mean Whoopy, So she
- 6:45Speaker 3: got her name wrong because Whoopy Golber got Diana's last
- 6:48Speaker 3: name wrong. But just you know, it's it's a great
- 6:51Speaker 3: story really when you think about where her parents came
- 6:53Speaker 3: from and where she grew up, and you know, just
- 6:57Speaker 3: the whole thing. You couldn't have scripted it any better
- 6:59Speaker 3: than what it was. And you know, I'm just glad she's.
- 7:03Speaker 4: One of ours.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Now on a senior day.
- 7:06Speaker 3: Yep, that'll be Sunday, so that'll be another although you
- 7:09Speaker 3: know it's Paige and Aubrey already had a senior day,
- 7:14Speaker 3: so you know, like it's kind of Caitlyn will be
- 7:17Speaker 3: her first ukon of senior day. So now, but this
- 7:20Speaker 3: is it for double seniors.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Now do we know for sure? Are there any more
- 7:24Speaker 1: taking part that you know of? Is like Asier maybe
- 7:27Speaker 1: Carolina or that is that?
- 7:29Speaker 3: No, not well, not that I am aware of right now,
- 7:32Speaker 3: but we're just you know, the thing is, it's because
- 7:36Speaker 3: of the way the rules have gone, we're just not
- 7:40Speaker 3: going to have two senior nights for it, like started
- 7:42Speaker 3: with Torca and rise of an injury and so now
- 7:47Speaker 3: kids that have eligibility can choose to have it. They
- 7:49Speaker 3: could have it this year, they could have it next year.
- 7:51Speaker 3: It doesn't really mean anything for the following year. It
- 7:53Speaker 3: just means this is the year they chose.
- 7:54Speaker 4: To have it.
- 7:54Speaker 1: All right, Well, we do know one thing Page will
- 7:56Speaker 1: be in the Huskies of Honor comes Sunday.
- 7:59Speaker 5: Yes, yeah, I think we should give a shout out
- 8:00Speaker 5: to the crowds.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Oh, the crowd was great. That I have and I
- 8:03Speaker 3: should not have been really paying that much attention. But
- 8:06Speaker 3: the whole blue white thing, I have never heard them that.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Loud before it was building.
- 8:11Speaker 4: It was loud.
- 8:12Speaker 3: So we really you know, I can't say enough about
- 8:14Speaker 3: the crowds that we've had midweek, Thursdays, Wednesdays, weekends here
- 8:19Speaker 3: at you know, at the XL or Gamble. It's just
- 8:22Speaker 3: been a tremendous year, really exciting. Happy, you know for
- 8:27Speaker 3: our players to be able to experience that, and happy
- 8:29Speaker 3: for our fans to be able to experience this team
- 8:32Speaker 3: this way. And we have one more opportunity to do
- 8:35Speaker 3: that at Gamble, and that'll be Sunday.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Kudos are the fans.
- 8:38Speaker 1: I think, with the exception of the Xavier Gaming you
- 8:41Speaker 1: had over thirteen thousand for that, you've sold out every
- 8:43Speaker 1: home game this year.
- 8:44Speaker 4: That's awesome.
- 8:45Speaker 3: Well, that again that we appreciate that, and we say
- 8:47Speaker 3: thank you. And unless you're complaining about what we're running
- 8:50Speaker 3: or who's playing or any of that stuff, and I'm
- 8:53Speaker 3: less appreciative. But usually everyone is pretty nice, at least
- 8:57Speaker 3: the ones I can hear.
- 8:58Speaker 2: All Right, we'll see a Sunday.
- 9:00Speaker 4: Great, thank you,
