Latest / Sri Aurobindo Studies / A Technique to Shift to Another Domain of Consciousness
Transcript
- 0:01It is a well recognized phenomena that when an
- 0:04individual focuses his concentration down to a single
- 0:08point and fixes it there long enough, he suddenly can shift to
- 0:14a new domain of consciousness and everything becomes wide,
- 0:19clear and known from that new standpoint.
- 0:24There is a yogic practice called Trotek which has the individual
- 0:28fixes focus on a flame, a candle or some other bright object
- 0:33until he passes out of the external consciousness into that
- 0:37new domain. This can also occur through
- 0:41focus on a mantra or through concentration of conscious force
- 0:46tapasia on a single subject. The 3rd chapter of the Tituria
- 0:51Upanishad has the seeker practicing Tapasia in order to
- 0:55realize the truth of existence. He systematically increases his
- 1:00concentration until he transcends the ordinary external
- 1:04viewpoint and reaches a stage of enlightenment.
- 1:10The mother observes quote. One can learn how to identify
- 1:14oneself. One must learn.
- 1:17It is indispensable if one wants to get out of one's ego.
- 1:22For so long as one is shut up in one's ego, 1 can't make any
- 1:26progress. How can it be done?
- 1:31There are many processes. I'll tell you one.
- 1:34When I was in Paris, I used to go to many places where there
- 1:38were gatherings of all kinds, people making all sorts of
- 1:41researches, spiritual, so-called spiritual, occult researches,
- 1:46etcetera. And once I was invited to meet a
- 1:50young lady, I believe she was Swedish, who had found a process
- 1:55of knowledge, exactly a process for learning.
- 1:59And so she explained it to us. We were 3 or 4.
- 2:04Her French was not very good, but she was quite sure of
- 2:07herself. She said it's like this.
- 2:11You take an object or make a sign on a blackboard or take a
- 2:16drawing that's not important. Take whatever is most convenient
- 2:20for you. Suppose, for instance, that I
- 2:22draw for you. She had a blackboard.
- 2:26I draw a design. She drew a kind of half
- 2:29geometric design. Now you sit in front of that
- 2:33design and concentrate all your attention upon it.
- 2:36Upon that design which is there, you concentrate.
- 2:41Concentrate without letting anything else into your
- 2:44consciousness except that your eyes are fixed on the drawing
- 2:48and don't move at all. You are as if we're hypnotized
- 2:54by the drawing. You look.
- 2:57And so she sat there looking. You look, look, look.
- 3:03I don't know. It takes more or less time, but
- 3:07still, for one who is used to it, it goes pretty fast.
- 3:11You look, look, look. You become that drawing you are
- 3:17looking at. Nothing else exists in the world
- 3:21any longer except the drawing. And then suddenly you pass to
- 3:27the other side. And when you pass to the other
- 3:30side you enter a new consciousness.
- 3:34And you know, we had a good laugh, for it was amusing.
- 3:39But it is quite true. It is an excellent method to
- 3:42practice. Naturally, instead of taking a
- 3:45drawing or any object, you may take, for instance, an idea, a
- 3:50few words. You have a problem preoccupying
- 3:53you. You don't know the solution of
- 3:55the problem well, you objectify your problem in your mind, put
- 4:00it in the most precise, exact, succinct terms possible, and
- 4:06then concentrate, make an effort.
- 4:09You concentrate only on the words and, if possible, on the
- 4:14idea they represent. That is, upon your problem.
- 4:18You concentrate, concentrate, concentrate until nothing else
- 4:25exists but that. And it is true that all of a
- 4:28sudden you have a feeling of something opening and one is on
- 4:33the other side, the other side of what it means that you have
- 4:38opened the door of your consciousness and
- 4:40instantaneously you have the solution of your problem.
- 4:45It is an excellent method of learning how to identify
- 4:49oneself. End Quote reference Sri ro Bindu
