- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome. To the three.
- 0:03O take where we talk all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Carlin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the three O take
- 0:16presented by SeatGeek this episode 506.
- 0:18I'll be your host, Kyle Cord. I'm here with my Co host Nate
- 0:21Reyes. Nate.
- 0:24Back with a brand new edition, rocking it on Sunday
- 0:27afternooners. I like this, I got to be honest.
- 0:31I'm I'm a big fan, big fan of this Sunday afternoon pods.
- 0:37It's delightful, It's delightful.
- 0:41I feel like I've got spark. I feel like I've got enthusiasm.
- 0:46You get, you get me on a Monday night.
- 0:49Who knows? Who knows, You know what I mean.
- 0:52And Thursday I'm pretty checked out from everything.
- 0:54So you could argue. One could argue that I'm I'm a
- 0:58better me Sunday afternoon. I hear you, but I, I wouldn't
- 1:04rule out our Thursday night pods like we're usually buzzing a
- 1:07little bit. We're usually buzzing a little
- 1:10bit with the weekend on on deck. So I, I wouldn't, I wouldn't
- 1:14knock those. But yeah, these these Sunday
- 1:16afternoon and we're bringing we're bringing it to you folks
- 1:19before the football action, like there was some intentionality
- 1:22here to get this pod in because we know that while you all
- 1:25probably love your baseball, that, you know, like me and like
- 1:31Nate, you love some playoff football.
- 1:32So we're we're going to get you in and out of here before the
- 1:35games get here. So let's let's just let's dive
- 1:41right into it. Jerks and Profar.
- 1:45We're going to the I think the the meat of this episode is
- 1:48going to focus around Pete Alonzo, Alex Bregman.
- 1:54What are we waiting for? Kind of kind of deal here, but a
- 1:57name that has signed a team that did something.
- 2:02It's about time the Atlanta Braves showed up to the party.
- 2:05They said, yeah, we'll we'll go ahead and take jerks on Profar.
- 2:09A three-year, $42 million contract.
- 2:14This is a deal. I will say that is it fair to
- 2:24say, like it could really go either way, Like you don't like,
- 2:29it's kind of what I was like. This could pan out very well for
- 2:32the Braves, but it also could maybe age a little less than
- 2:37gracefully, we'll say. Like, is that, is that fair to
- 2:41say? It's definitely fair to say it's
- 2:45definitely, this makes me feel like in hindsight's 2020.
- 2:50So like if we were to go back in time, and I'm sorry if I relate
- 2:55this to Yankee contracts or players too often, but this is
- 3:00kind of where my mind goes. And hopefully this is a decent
- 3:04correlation or comparison for a lot of you.
- 3:08I'm thinking like DJ Lemahieu, you know what I mean?
- 3:12Like getting into end of peak years, coming off a really good
- 3:18season. You don't know.
- 3:24You don't know, you know what I mean?
- 3:25Like you could you could be in baseball jail by the end of this
- 3:28contract. I mean, it is three years that
- 3:31that's what we have to keep in mind here.
- 3:33It is only three years. And that's why, that's why I'm
- 3:35saying I'm not, I'm not stressed about this for the on behalf of
- 3:38the Braves, I'm not. That's why it's like the
- 3:41Lemahieu contract because it was like, you know, they just did a
- 3:44three-year deal and or four year deal and then now like look at
- 3:47them. It's it's like, wow, I guess we
- 3:49got to see what he has in spring training, you know, so is it
- 3:54going to be something similar for pro far But anyway.
- 3:57It's not going to torpedo the franchise, is what I'm saying.
- 3:59Not, not at all, but. In terms of, of, of what he
- 4:03brings to the table as a player, as a personality, I think he's
- 4:07going to fit in excellently with the Braves.
- 4:10Like this is this is like if he's not, if he's not sticking
- 4:13around in San Diego, which I thought I think a lot of Padres
- 4:15fans were holding out hope that the longer this offseason went
- 4:18that maybe there's a chance they could bring their guy back.
- 4:20Because who I mean, who in San Diego didn't like jerks and pro
- 4:23far if if he's not able to to stay put there to to kind of
- 4:28stay at home with with the Padres.
- 4:31I think this is one of if not the next best option for him in
- 4:35terms of environments that I think he will he will genuinely
- 4:38thrive in. I agree, because just think
- 4:40about the personalities that the Braves have rolled out there,
- 4:43even just in the last three to four years.
- 4:47Like I, I think this would be a good fit for him.
- 4:50And I think if an environment, if, if he's the type of player
- 4:54that responds to the environment that he's in, I think this would
- 4:58lend you or this would lead you rather to think that this
- 5:02contract could age a little better than than not.
- 5:05Because he's he's in a place where he's going to be able to
- 5:08be himself. He's going to be in a place
- 5:09where the people around the, the players, the the personnel, the
- 5:12staff around him are going to encourage that.
- 5:15And the fans are going to eat it up because, like I said, they've
- 5:17done so for the last three to four years with the different
- 5:20names that they've rolled out there.
- 5:21So this is going to be nothing new to them, but it's going to
- 5:23be something that's familiar to the fans and something that,
- 5:26again, I think they're going to love so. 100% dude, they've
- 5:29needed a left fielder and he doesn't have to be a dude there.
- 5:35Much like, you know, for the Padres, it's like a in this
- 5:39weird tier of like you're above a role player, but you're not a,
- 5:42you know, like a relied upon star who gives me like a fan
- 5:51favorite Eddie Rosario kind of vibe, right?
- 5:54Like someone who just kind of has some memorable moments with
- 5:58the franchise and potentially comes up clutch in in those big
- 6:01moments. And he's beloved by all.
- 6:04And then you can it helps you kind of look past the, you know,
- 6:09league average or below league average in some statistical
- 6:12categories of this player. That's kind of what it feels
- 6:16like. But you're right, man, like
- 6:17culture wise, hard to imagine a better fit outside of the
- 6:21Padres. You know, to to go to where you
- 6:25can immediately slide in and and not to be weird, but like, you
- 6:30know, it is. It is like a cultural thing
- 6:33when. You get weird man.
- 6:34With other Latin guys, you know what I mean?
- 6:36Like when you're with other ball players that that have a similar
- 6:39playing style to you and you know, when you're talking to
- 6:42Cunha and you're talking Ozzy, Alby's in in a Zuna and like,
- 6:48that's a natural perfect fit in my mind.
- 6:50Dude, tell me that's not going to be one of the most forget,
- 6:53like forget output, forget what you're going to get out of them
- 6:58in terms of numbers. Like if we're just looking at a
- 7:01fun, a fun outfield, find me an outfield that's going to be
- 7:08that's going to have more fun than Acuna, Michael Harris and
- 7:11Jerks and Profar. Exactly.
- 7:13I mean, what are we? What are we doing here?
- 7:15And I Yeah. Yeah.
- 7:18And you know what, it kind of brought me back to I totally
- 7:21forgot that Kellnick was there. So like adding a little bit of
- 7:26I, I think I love competition. I'm in that category.
- 7:29I'll always be in that category. Competition brings out the best
- 7:32in in guys and you know, it's not like Kelnick has like hit
- 7:38cruise control by any means, but like we're also at that point
- 7:41where like, what are you going to like, are you going to live
- 7:43up to the potential? Are you going to live up to the
- 7:45hype? You know, we we saw this like,
- 7:48you know, stint in Seattle where it didn't really get the best
- 7:51out of you. And then, you know, the Braves,
- 7:54we saw flashes, but like it hasn't really shown up.
- 7:58So does the, you know, added. Who am I kidding?
- 8:05Profar starting over him. Profar is getting the time.
- 8:09Yeah, and and the thing you have to keep in mind with Profar too,
- 8:12is this guy is he is prone to big moments, whether or not he
- 8:18ends up being the superstar that the that you would hope not OK,
- 8:25superstar, the upper tier star that you would hope that he is.
- 8:32If you're a Braves fan, at the very least you can pretty much
- 8:36if you're a betting, if you're a betting man, a betting woman, go
- 8:40ahead and put your money on the fact that jerks And Profar
- 8:43assuming this Braves team is going to bounce back from from
- 8:46last year, struggles with with injuries and just constantly
- 8:49playing from behind. It seemed assuming they're going
- 8:52to be back in the picture this year.
- 8:56Go ahead. Put your money on jerks and
- 8:58Profar having his face at the center of some big big moments
- 9:03whether it's regular season or or potential post season
- 9:07scenarios because this guy just seems to show up in in more
- 9:13meaningful moments. You need them.
- 9:16And for Braves fans in the chat hanging out with us, like you,
- 9:19you're very familiar with these, these role players that that
- 9:24just come up huge and they're immortalized for that year or
- 9:31that era or that window that that, you know, the Braves are
- 9:34currently in. Yeah, dude, I, I continue to
- 9:40look back to last year and just, and just say it's a fluke.
- 9:44You know, the amount of injuries.
- 9:46And I get it. Every team has injuries.
- 9:47But like to the top players in your roster, like it's, it's
- 9:54hard to overcome some of those. So I, I called a wash dude.
- 9:59Like I'm not even if I'm a Braves fan, I'm not even
- 10:01stressing it. And I think there was probably
- 10:05some frustration with like lack of movement this offseason, but
- 10:10you got to remember that like, you're not you're not needing a
- 10:13ton to go right back where you were.
- 10:16Now, if we're going to talk about comparing you to a
- 10:20Dodger's roster, I think we can have that conversation with
- 10:23every team. Like, no, you're not as deep,
- 10:27but you're starting nine and you and your rotation, you know,
- 10:32I'll, I'll put that up against almost anything, any other team
- 10:37in the league. So you immediately step back in
- 10:40as like a another big threat to the NL East.
- 10:44And Profar just gives you, you know, out of depth athleticism.
- 10:48It it solves that left field issue if you didn't feel like
- 10:51Kellnick was an everyday guy. And I love the move.
- 10:55Love the move. Jealous.
- 10:58Honestly, I like Profar. Let's suck, Let's suck.
- 11:04Bregman and Alonzo. 2 names again that are still out there.
- 11:09Two names that I think people would have expected, both of
- 11:16whom to have signed by now. And I tweeted out the other day
- 11:24like we are getting, we're, we're less than a month away
- 11:28from pitchers and catchers reporting like we're, we're
- 11:30getting dangerously close to being a bat.
- 11:32We're, I think we're what, 3-3 weeks give or take?
- 11:36The most pointless notification by the way pictures and catchers
- 11:41reporting is like. It's.
- 11:44Such like a they. Don't even all report on the
- 11:46same day like I don't. They don't.
- 11:47So what do we? We finally have clips of guys
- 11:51walking around in spring training gear stretching.
- 11:55Love that. Yes, finally doing flat ground
- 11:58work anyway. I love watching.
- 12:00I love watching third string catchers do Frankenstein's.
- 12:04Love it. No, but we're getting
- 12:08dangerously close to to pitchers and catchers reporting and let's
- 12:14not forget who represents these two.
- 12:18OK, We, we're going to need some clarity on this just as baseball
- 12:25fans, because we, we kind of want to know teams and fans
- 12:30alike want to know who's going to be where and for their sake,
- 12:35I don't want and we've, we've, we've said our, our respective
- 12:38pieces about Alonso over the years, certainly, but even for
- 12:42even for him, even for his sake, I want him to know where he's
- 12:46going to be playing because I'm starting to, I'm starting to
- 12:49feel a little bad for this guy because he's he very clearly
- 12:53wants no, we, we never want to get to that point, but we're
- 12:57again, dangerously close. We're we're seen him extending
- 13:02all him and him and his camp extend an offer to the Mets and
- 13:05then the Met. You, you get we, we heard
- 13:07recently with the the Mets amazing day or Mets fest or
- 13:11whatever that Cohen and Cohen and company are getting a little
- 13:15fed up with it. And I'll be honest with you.
- 13:19The the analogy that comes to mind is you were dating
- 13:26somebody. It was great.
- 13:29It was great. Sure.
- 13:33But then had a little bit of a falling out.
- 13:35You moved on to somebody just so much better for you and your
- 13:40situation. And just you, you enjoy it that
- 13:43much more. But your ex doesn't have the
- 13:47fortune of of moving on in the same way.
- 13:50And so your ex is sort of like, you know, standing there outside
- 13:54of your house across the street, not like stalking necessarily,
- 13:58but just being like, hey, I'm here, I'm here.
- 14:00I just want to just don't, I don't want you to forget about
- 14:03me. And you're like, believe me,
- 14:07I've moved on, got something much better.
- 14:11We're good. And that's, that's the vibe I'm
- 14:14getting from Cohen and company right now.
- 14:17Because you go out like we like we talked about when it when it
- 14:20happened. You've got Cohen going out there
- 14:23and essentially telling the baseball world, I will spend as
- 14:28much money as necessary to get this guy that I've had my eye on
- 14:32for some time, Juan Soto. You go out and get Juan Soto and
- 14:36then all of a sudden it doesn't seem like Pete Alonso is that
- 14:41important to you anymore. And whether whether you think
- 14:44that that's the right way to approach it or not, that's kind
- 14:47of where we're at. And again, with the comments
- 14:49that are coming out of the Mets fest or, or whatever this
- 14:52weekend, they're kind of they're kind of making that clear and
- 14:58they're kind of saying that that is the case.
- 15:00Why? Does he still want to be there?
- 15:03Why I? Mean, why would you not want to
- 15:05be there if you're like that's, that's what you've known the the
- 15:08franchise. What if you want to look to last
- 15:11year, even forget this year with the addition of Soto and and so
- 15:14on and so forth. Do you want to look to last
- 15:16year? Is the the franchise sort of
- 15:19turning a corner? Why would you not want to stick
- 15:21around for that? Because you were there when the
- 15:23you, if, if you're Pete Alonzo, you've been around these last
- 15:27handful of years where the franchise literally gets laughed
- 15:30out of the building like you're, you're, you're with the.
- 15:34And they still don't respect you.
- 15:36They still aren't giving you what you're asking for.
- 15:39They're still not. You're considering you a
- 15:42priority, like at a certain point to go back to your
- 15:46analogy, at a certain point, how many dates do you have set up?
- 15:49And and the girl just says, Oh no, my dog's sick.
- 15:53Oh no, I have to go pick up my friend from the airport.
- 15:56Oh no, can we do next weekend? How many of those texts are you
- 15:58going to get before you move on? Time to go find something new,
- 16:03dude, go to Seattle, you're going to be adored.
- 16:07Go to San Francisco, your numbers will drop a little bit.
- 16:10You will never go to the playoffs again, but you'll
- 16:13happily enjoy California. I like there's other places.
- 16:18There's plenty of other places. There's plenty of other
- 16:20opportunities. I can guarantee you that it
- 16:24Seattle seems like a no brainer to me.
- 16:27I don't I don't know if they're in.
- 16:28I feel like they should be in. They may be in.
- 16:33I don't really know. Maybe they're not a big enough
- 16:35player. I I'm not sure man.
- 16:38But like, there's plenty of places that need a first
- 16:41baseman. There's plenty of line UPS that
- 16:43could could use a walking thirty home run guy.
- 16:50I'm not buying that MEZBX. I'm not buying that he doesn't
- 16:53have a market. I don't agree.
- 16:57There's no way. I, I would agree in a sense that
- 17:01I, I don't think the market is as, call it aggressive as maybe
- 17:09he was as he was hoping. For I think it was probably
- 17:12overestimated. And the problem is that when you
- 17:16know, you get to this point in the offseason, you lose leverage
- 17:19when other teams are like, hey, we're done waiting.
- 17:21We're going to go make other moves.
- 17:23We're going to now move on to Plan B and and fill that hole in
- 17:26a different way. And so you do start to lose
- 17:29leverage and then you, you know, go back to the Mets with your
- 17:31tail in between your legs and try to hold up.
- 17:34This is what I deserve offer. And the Mets laugh at you.
- 17:38So you're losing leverage by the day.
- 17:40And I get that. But to me, this is when another
- 17:43team can step in and and answer that offer the Mariners, the
- 17:50Giants, like teams can step in and say, hey, I've got that for
- 17:54you. I think the Jay, I mean, throw
- 17:56the Jays in the Jays talk. We've talked about them.
- 17:59I mean, if you're the Jays, why not?
- 18:03Why not capitalize here? That's what I'm saying There's
- 18:06there's plenty of other teams that can capitalize and and
- 18:09again, maybe he really wants to be a met.
- 18:12Maybe he's just dead set on that and it's it's reeking of
- 18:17desperate desperation at this point.
- 18:18Maybe that's the case. But again, at a certain point
- 18:22dude, like when do you move on the?
- 18:25The Mets are the significant other that he envisioned himself
- 18:30marrying, spending the rest of his life with.
- 18:33And he's of that mindset that I think I'm, I'm not going to
- 18:37judge people's dating habits or whatever, but I think he's of
- 18:40that mindset where he's he he is unable to move on from that,
- 18:44from that belief that he is, he is destined to spend the rest of
- 18:48the life of, of his life with the Mets.
- 18:53And the Mets are like, we're not, we're we don't subscribe to
- 18:56that the. Dad, the dad is like I, I just
- 18:58don't see it. I'm sorry.
- 18:59You're not good enough. You're not good enough for my
- 19:01team. I don't know.
- 19:05Again, this is the moment where other teams need to just come in
- 19:12re knock on that door up your offer a hair.
- 19:15I bet you get it done and you get a you get a premier power
- 19:20hitter. Let's be honest, like we're
- 19:23everyone likes to make fun of Pete Alonzo.
- 19:25We love to make fun of Pete Alonzo.
- 19:26The guy's corny as hell, but like, whatever he he produces,
- 19:34he produces and what team doesn't need a power hitter?
- 19:40Go get it done if you're the Mets.
- 19:43I don't know what's going on. If we're talking from that
- 19:46perspective. If Stevie says he's got all the
- 19:50money in the world and he can do whatever he wants, like, why
- 19:52aren't you doing this then? Unless you're full of it when
- 19:57you're saying that you wanted both, you wanted Soto and Pete.
- 20:01Maybe they don't want Pete. Maybe they want Vladdy.
- 20:05Maybe they want Vladdy? Maybe soda wants flatty?
- 20:11And whatever soda wants, soda there's.
- 20:13Some apparently soap opera stuff right here.
- 20:15I bet soda is just like Nah. It's a white love.
- 20:17Let's get Vladdy next year. It's like, no, no, no, I don't
- 20:21want white bread. I want Vladdy.
- 20:24I I know Pete's been here for a for a good bit, but he's not
- 20:28here anymore. I am and I want Vladdy.
- 20:30This is a wild love triangle, man.
- 20:32Or it's square. How many people?
- 20:35How many, how many, how many significant others do we have in
- 20:37the mix here? I mean this is this is crazy.
- 20:40I don't know Lindor, I don't care so but.
- 20:44It's not his team anymore, unfortunately so.
- 20:46Ness, Soto, Vladdy, Lindor, whatever order you want to do.
- 20:57Yeah, I guess half of that lineup, That'd be nuts.
- 20:59Maybe even throw Bregman into the mix because he doesn't have
- 21:03a team yet. Maybe he ends up, maybe he ends
- 21:05up with the Mets. Who knows?
- 21:07Probably not. But if he's not going to end up
- 21:09with the Red Sox, which at this rate, I, I, I don't know where
- 21:13are we at with that? The late Well, the latest report
- 21:16is that the Red Sox are only willing to go, they're they're
- 21:18willing to only go up to four years.
- 21:22And apparently, I think I saw there's multiple, I think, I
- 21:29don't know specifics in terms of teams, but I think I saw maybe
- 21:34up to three teams have made offers more than four years
- 21:38because I think he's looking for six.
- 21:41He would presumably settle for five, but the Red Sox are only
- 21:44willing to go up to four. So you can see the issue there.
- 21:50I think he's probably at this rate he and like we've talked
- 21:53about he, he sees the potential success that would exist and
- 21:59that would be waiting for him in Boston should he decide to play
- 22:03at Fenway for the next four to six years.
- 22:09What was he, 31303030? He'll be, well, he'll be 31
- 22:18pretty much on Opening Day right around there, March 30th.
- 22:25He sees the the success is waiting for him at Fenway in
- 22:28Boston, should he end up there. But I think he's just kind of
- 22:33waiting it out at this point. He's waiting for the Red Sox to
- 22:35get serious because they're they're certainly not serious as
- 22:38it stands right now. Because if you, if there's a guy
- 22:41that just makes perfect sense for your team, such as Alex
- 22:46Bregman for the Red Sox, why not you?
- 22:52Again, you have the resources available, you have the money.
- 22:57You used to be a team that would that was a destination that
- 23:02would fork over whatever money necessary to get the guy that
- 23:05you wanted. You don't do that anymore.
- 23:08You're not you're not being asked to spend Juan Soto money
- 23:11here. It's Alex Bregman, a guy that is
- 23:14a good fit, a great fit for for your needs and and what you're
- 23:18looking to accomplish this year. He would be a great addition to
- 23:23that mix. But you're not serious about it.
- 23:26And if you wait much longer, one of these teams is going to get
- 23:30serious about it and he's going to go well.
- 23:32The money's too good, the years are too good.
- 23:34I don't have a choice. As much as I'd want to play in
- 23:36Boston, as much as I think my career would trend upwards that
- 23:41much more, I I can't, I can't take what you're offering me
- 23:45because it's not you. You're an unserious franchise at
- 23:47this point, and I have to go elsewhere.
- 23:54I, I wonder if there's ever a, a point, I'm just going to say
- 23:59what everyone's thinking. I, I wonder if there's ever a
- 24:02point where a free agent that's 30 or 31 genuinely recognizes
- 24:10the fact that they're not going to play until they're 383940
- 24:14years old. And for every 3031 year old free
- 24:21agent to say I'm worth signing until I'm 3637 years old.
- 24:27Like, no, you're not. I'm sorry you're not.
- 24:33Rarely does anybody perform at that point.
- 24:38And when you take a realistic look of how teams are managing
- 24:41their money, I, I wouldn't want 20, five, $30 million going to a
- 24:483536 year old. No, but that's just how they
- 24:51structure these contracts. Because if you're if if you're a
- 24:54guy like Alex Bregman, you know that this is it.
- 24:56This is your last chance to get big money.
- 25:00He's already gotten a he's already gotten a contract before
- 25:02this. We know this, but this is it.
- 25:04This is it. So you have to it like if you're
- 25:08him, I understand wanting to get a little greedy and wanting to
- 25:11tack on maybe in a sixth year knowing that you're going to be
- 25:14able to provide what whatever team you end up with the value
- 25:18up front just. Like all that, but look at the
- 25:20look at the guy, look at the skill set.
- 25:21The skill set doesn't play. The skill set does not play.
- 25:26Like those are going to fall. The power numbers are going to
- 25:29fall, the speed is going to fall.
- 25:30The athleticism at third or second, wherever you put them,
- 25:33that's going to that's going to drift when you're in your mid
- 25:3630s like I it's not going to be there anymore.
- 25:41And in a game where guys are getting paid and starting
- 25:43younger and younger and younger, you don't have that kind of
- 25:48leverage. And if anything, you can't sit
- 25:51there and blame the market when in reality, you should probably
- 25:54look in the mirror and say maybe that six year, $100 million
- 25:58extension I took with the Astros was a little too long and it
- 26:02carried me too deep into my prime and me sitting here saying
- 26:06I deserve a payday. When you're nearing the end of
- 26:11your prime, you probably only have two years left of really
- 26:17good Alex Bregman years. You don't have leverage.
- 26:24Well, it was reported that the, and again, this is just what's
- 26:29being reported. I don't know if this is actually
- 26:31factual, but this is all we have to go off of is that the Astros
- 26:35offer that they made earlier this offseason of I believe it
- 26:39was six years. Let me see six years 156,000,000
- 26:45This was pre. Pre jumped on that.
- 26:50Yeah, this was pre Paretes Tucker situation.
- 26:54Should have jumped on that. Well, apparently it's still on
- 26:57the table. They they've re engaged in, in
- 27:00discussions and that's a situation where if he comes
- 27:05back, you move. I I saw that the, the Astros are
- 27:08in on the idea. They subscribe to the, the move
- 27:14of bumping Pereiraeus the second.
- 27:16And then Jose Altuve has indicated that he'd be willing
- 27:19to move to the left, which the Astros are on board with.
- 27:22That's the latest that that we've heard.
- 27:26And so if I honestly, if I'm Alex Bregman, if, if what I'm
- 27:30looking for is 6 years over $150 million, I think he was looking
- 27:36closer to two. But if it's over $150.00, you
- 27:38get that six year, you get that security and you get to stay at
- 27:42the place that you've you've, you've been.
- 27:46I don't think any other team stands a chance at that point.
- 27:49That's why I'm saying if you are the Red Sox you have any
- 27:51interest in in entertaining this, you need to get him now.
- 27:54Because if you wait any longer, chances are it with what's being
- 27:59reported, he's going back to Houston.
- 28:01I hear what you're saying and, and a lot of a lot of the times
- 28:05you'll see an organization that has that player or has had that
- 28:08player in the in the past that has had success.
- 28:11You, you do give those additional years, you do give
- 28:14that, you know, understanding that we're going to, we're going
- 28:18to pay him for what he's done. And if you're the Red Sox and
- 28:24you do sign him in a 5-6 year deal like he hasn't done
- 28:26anything for you, you know what I mean?
- 28:29You don't owe him anything to offer that extra time.
- 28:35So I understand why the Astros would do it.
- 28:39I don't really understand why the Red Sox or other teams would
- 28:42do it. But I think if you're if you're
- 28:48the Red Sox, I agree it's a great fit.
- 28:52That makes a ton of sense and when you're talking about a
- 28:54skill set that does, it is going to diminish in a way that power
- 28:59numbers and and just overall offensive production is going to
- 29:03fall. Name 2 better ballparks for
- 29:06that. You know what I'm saying?
- 29:09Fenway. And was it Dyken?
- 29:12Dyken, Yeah. Fenway and Dyken are I can't
- 29:16even say that's just so dumb. Are two great places that that,
- 29:22you know, still kind of a fluff those numbers up a little bit.
- 29:28Shout out to. Dyken, by the way, they, they
- 29:30kept Meredith and I nice and comfortable at our little cabin
- 29:35anniversary getaway retreat. It's weird.
- 29:38It's weird now I never, I never used to pay attention to to HVAC
- 29:42systems, but now I, I, it caught my eye and I was like, oh, shout
- 29:47out Astros. So now I see now I see Dyken
- 29:49everywhere because it's like that.
- 29:51And I think like Whirlpool and maybe like one other, the only
- 29:56ones that I'm really familiar with.
- 29:58So when I see when I see Dyken on there, I'm like, oh cool.
- 30:01So shout out Dyken keeping us nice and comf.
- 30:03I bet Minute Maid sales have just plummeted since.
- 30:07People are always going to have their orange juice, you know?
- 30:09We ought to assume you know. They're probably doing fine I.
- 30:12Think I'm a simply Orange household.
- 30:17Yeah, think I'm right there with you.
- 30:18Yeah, Speaking of household eBay, Mizahara is not going to
- 30:26be living at his house anytime soon because that man is going
- 30:29to jail. Did you, did you get it by
- 30:33chance? Get to hear the clip?
- 30:34I didn't of the dude. All right.
- 30:37Looking forward to. It.
- 30:38I've got it queued up. Yeah, yeah, I've got it queued
- 30:40up. He was, this was a recording.
- 30:44If you if you have no idea what we're talking about eBay
- 30:47Mizahara, former interpreter for Shohei Otani, who obviously got
- 30:51swept up in the whole like gambling scandal, yadda yadda
- 30:54yadda. A clip recently surfaced where
- 31:00he is being recorded impersonating Shohei Otani in an
- 31:04attempt to wire money from Otani's bank account.
- 31:08And so we're. So here for this T.
- 31:10We've got it, we've got it queued up.
- 31:12Hopefully it works. We'll see.
- 31:15Who am I speaking with? So hey, O'Connor.
- 31:20Thank you. How may I help you?
- 31:24So I tried to log in to online banking and it told me yeah,
- 31:29it's not available to me at this time and during the call.
- 31:33Sure, I can take a look into that.
- 31:35Alrighty. And could you tell me the name
- 31:37of the Peggy and the amount of the transaction please?
- 31:42The person I'm sending to. Yes.
- 31:49It's for $200,000. Thank you already now recently
- 31:54we come across a trend of fraud and scam so we have been
- 31:57monitoring the online transactions closely to make
- 32:01sure our clients are not the victim of either.
- 32:04What is the reason for this transaction?
- 32:08For a car loan. OK.
- 32:10You said it's for a car loan. Yeah.
- 32:14OK, what is your relationship to the payee?
- 32:17Oh, he's my friend. OK.
- 32:27That poor lady's getting fired for sure, right?
- 32:29Oh my goodness. According to the prosecutor's
- 32:33filing, he made calls and interpreted or impersonated
- 32:39Otani rather on 24 separate occasions.
- 32:46It does, like you can tell it doesn't even.
- 32:48It doesn't even sound like show hey.
- 32:51Well, I mean we, we know that, we understand that, but to
- 32:54somebody that has no clue. It's well, all I'm saying is
- 32:58that it's just like glaring. Like it's not even like, Oh
- 33:01yeah, this could be show. Hey, no, it's definitely not
- 33:03show. Hey, just wild.
- 33:06Just. Wild and they the the agent that
- 33:11he was on the phone with went on to say which I I guess it wasn't
- 33:16included in this clip, but went on to ask will there be any
- 33:18future wires to your friend and Mizahara said possibly shocker
- 33:25shocker. So I I think the take away here
- 33:29is that this is evidence that points to maybe him not being a
- 33:36fall guy and him just having an actual problem.
- 33:39Yep, Yep, Yep, Yep, for sure. I don't know dude.
- 33:44IAIAIAIAI is crazy nowadays, you know what I mean?
- 33:51Like I'm not I'm. I'm just saying we could still
- 33:56hold on to. Are you saying that you're
- 33:59trying to hold on to hope that he's a fall guy?
- 34:01Like, is that the narrative that you're?
- 34:03Collecting it still, it could still be out there.
- 34:05You know what I mean? Like we could still, we could
- 34:07still consider that an option. The odds are going to the
- 34:11against. If you were, if you were, if you
- 34:13were a part of the jury, you'd be booted immediately.
- 34:16Like this guy clearly has something, a vendetta.
- 34:20Yeah, he's got a vendetta here. What's the issue?
- 34:23You'd be booted so fast. We're watching The Lincoln
- 34:25Lawyer right now, so I'm like, I'm very.
- 34:28Great, great show. Very much in tune with the.
- 34:31Movie. Oh, yeah.
- 34:33Yeah. Back in the day.
- 34:33Good movie, too. Yeah.
- 34:34Matthew McConaughey. Yeah.
- 34:37Yeah, we actually just finished the third season last night.
- 34:40I only saw Season 1, so we have to bring that back up anyway.
- 34:50Yeah, dude, this, this changes the whole the whole system.
- 34:54This is going to change all interpreters.
- 34:57It's going to change who has access to what.
- 35:00And I still, you know, whether he's guilty or not, like shame
- 35:05on show, hey, for giving this kind of access to an
- 35:08interpreter. Well.
- 35:13Yeah, there wasn't much other than that to to kind of run
- 35:15through. But closing the book here, we
- 35:18got a few items and then we got a draft on deck.
- 35:21So stick around for our draft to get a, get a, a new topic or new
- 35:27category, if you will, that we're going to be getting into.
- 35:29So stick around for that. Closing the book here, though,
- 35:32just some jersey updates. I'm sure you saw the Mets
- 35:35unveiled the new road blue. Did you by chance get get an?
- 35:41Opportunity to look at that. You ready for this?
- 35:46I freaking love them. Dude, no, I love them.
- 35:49No, they're so. Clean.
- 35:52And, and I said yesterday, I said yesterday, what I'm looking
- 35:59for the tweet, oh, it's 'cause it was an Instagram comment.
- 36:01I said how how long until they realize you can't read the
- 36:07jerseys from far away? Just like the Marlins, Black
- 36:10alternates and change these just like the Marlins did.
- 36:13This is it's the same it's the same track.
- 36:18This is exactly what the Marlins did.
- 36:20They went with the outline and initially like, oh, those look
- 36:23pretty sick. And then you're like, this is
- 36:25more for like show and less like it's it's less practical than I
- 36:28think people are making it out to be.
- 36:30And you're going to these are going to change.
- 36:34Do you mark my words, they are going to make it.
- 36:36They're going to be making if they if they want to keep them
- 36:37in the rotation, they're going to be changing them in 2026.
- 36:40You just. Want bones?
- 36:41The bones, The structure of this jersey is fire.
- 36:45I mean, I love the classic New York fault like or classic like
- 36:48the the sort of vintage New York fawn on front.
- 36:52I'm a huge fan of that. But like no buttons now it's a
- 36:55vest or a pullover I should say. Like a little like the little
- 37:00semi V-neck thing going on. Like the Nats introduced to I
- 37:04think last year. Yeah, love them, love them.
- 37:08I'm surprised. I know.
- 37:10That's why I was like, Are you ready for this?
- 37:11Because you and I are like the negative Jersey guys.
- 37:13I think if if we have a thing, that's our thing.
- 37:16We're just negative about any jerseys that come out.
- 37:19I'm a fan. No, not any jersey.
- 37:21I mean, I'm a fan. What I'm not a fan of is
- 37:24whatever that stupid hat that Frankie Lindor was wearing.
- 37:27When did you see that video? When he tried them on in the
- 37:30clubhouse with the bill. Like completely.
- 37:33Full Oh yeah, yeah, I did see that.
- 37:35Awful, awful. Not a thing.
- 37:37Don't. It's not a thing.
- 37:39You're not Spike Lee. Take that off.
- 37:41Don't know what that was. I mentioned the Nationals.
- 37:44The nationals just again, brief update there.
- 37:47They announced that they're bringing back the Red Uni's
- 37:49which I'm a big fan of. Love love a good.
- 37:52Love a good solid color white pant combo or grey pant combo.
- 38:00Very very bold for the Nats, so nice strong color.
- 38:05That's why I think like the Cardinals spring training, I
- 38:08think they should wear that. The red jersey wear that year
- 38:12round, that's so sick. Very clean.
- 38:14Very clean. Yeah, they I think the Nets used
- 38:16Dylan Cruz to to model the red and it looks, looks real good.
- 38:20Smart. And lastly, the Padres are
- 38:23phasing out their pink and Mint City connects.
- 38:27Nate's shaking his head. Yeah, got to go.
- 38:31That's just, it's not, it's not it anymore.
- 38:33Sorry. I never liked him really.
- 38:38I don't think I'm rewriting history here with my with my old
- 38:41takes when it first got announced, but I didn't.
- 38:44I didn't dislike them. I just didn't, I didn't dislike
- 38:50them. I just, I didn't like them.
- 38:52They just they were, they were whatever for me.
- 38:54They were the over hyped by the Padres community and.
- 38:57Sure. But I mean, I think it's a good
- 38:59fit, like of the city connects that we've seen try to draw you
- 39:04to the city or or make sense of what the city is about.
- 39:07I feel like that I mean, that's a that's a lively uniform in San
- 39:10Diego is a that's a that's a popping place.
- 39:13You've been there. I haven't been to Petco, but I
- 39:15can only imagine that it's you know, there's a little bit of
- 39:19liveliness to it, But sure, I though they'll they will be
- 39:22idios. We'll be out of here at the end
- 39:26of this coming season. Idios.
- 39:31Last last little update here. Paul Skein's card, the debut
- 39:36patch was as we expected, rejected by the 11 year old
- 39:40collector is going up for auction.
- 39:42The Pirates did offer, I think it was actually Bob Nutting was
- 39:48I think I saw the clip talking about how he would like to or
- 39:52the team rather would still like to host him for him, him and his
- 39:56family. I would imagine for a game and
- 39:59also have a little a meet and greet with Skeens, which you can
- 40:03only imagine he's going to get a couple autographs.
- 40:04So it's like kind of got the best of both worlds.
- 40:06I just want to I want to meet Skeens.
- 40:09If I if I'm an 11 year old collector, I want to meet
- 40:11Skeens, get a couple autographs. Maybe Livy's there if I'm an 11
- 40:14year old, like, hey, what's up, Livy?
- 40:17And then go click my my check. Yeah.
- 40:21I'm not trying to sit behind behind home plate, which I don't
- 40:24think we ever figured out what that actually meant.
- 40:26Like are we sitting behind home plate?
- 40:28Are we sitting in the direction of home plate in the upper deck?
- 40:32Who knows? How far does that range go for
- 40:36you behind home plate? How long?
- 40:38How wide? You have to be in that to be
- 40:41considered for me behind home plate.
- 40:43You have to be on that same ground level once you reach that
- 40:47first, like, Oh yeah, sure. But like, how?
- 40:51How far out? Oh, how far out?
- 40:52I think I go from like, like on deck circle to on deck circle.
- 40:58Yeah, I'll count that as behind home plate.
- 41:00Yeah. But again, it's got to be that
- 41:02ground level. Or if you want to get technical,
- 41:04because I know on deck circles can fluctuate a little bit I
- 41:07guess like if you if you took the the foul lines and ran if
- 41:12you kept. Going kept.
- 41:13Running them like through the seats?
- 41:15Yeah, exactly. Pizza.
- 41:16Slice. Exactly.
- 41:18Probably like that. That's a nice range.
- 41:21Sure. But anyway, that's all I got
- 41:23there. Do you?
- 41:25You got a quote for us real quick before we get into our
- 41:27draft? Hit that button.
- 41:54Whose quote was. This I don't.
- 41:57I can't remember your preference.
- 41:59Do you like me telling you episode date before or after you
- 42:04like it after? Because.
- 42:05That's what I do and I just like keeping it consistent.
- 42:07OK, you ready? Lay it on me.
- 42:11It's just the White Sox time. Look, they brought in a manager
- 42:15who knows how to win. Tony Larussa.
- 42:17There's a reason they brought him in.
- 42:19They knew it was this time. You're talking about a
- 42:22combination of guys getting into their peak years and guys
- 42:25entering the scene. Eloy Jimenez problem, Luis
- 42:28Robert obviously entering the entering the scene.
- 42:31Yeah. Adam Eaton to bring in some
- 42:33veteran presents. Jose Abreu coming off an MVP,
- 42:37the switch hitter, a switch hitting catcher who can drop
- 42:40bombs, Tim Anderson, who's going to hit over 330.
- 42:42Yoan Mancato, who's going to do his thing, a young stud.
- 42:45And Nick Madrigal at second in a rotation that's got Giolito
- 42:49fronting Dallas Keiko feeling his old ways.
- 42:52Bro, what are we talking about? What are we talking about?
- 42:55I thoroughly, thoroughly expect the White Sox to win over 95
- 42:59games. Episode 189.
- 43:03March 25th, 2021. I mean, that's, that's nobody
- 43:12else but me. That's nobody else but me.
- 43:17Are you serious? Serious.
- 43:22Wow. Yep, that is your boy.
- 43:26And a trick question because I know there's a lot of haters out
- 43:29there. I look back, that's a pretty
- 43:35good guess. They won 93 games.
- 43:37They did. I was, I was about to go off.
- 43:39If that was my quote, people would have been like, oh, what a
- 43:41stupid take. Look how well that aged.
- 43:43Well, it aged pretty well. 93 wins.
- 43:45Idiots age pretty well. So I wanted to go back because I
- 43:49know like we've started the new trend of revisiting our hot
- 43:54takes in predictions episode, which this was it in 2021.
- 43:58We've revisited that at the end of the season to sometimes see
- 44:01if anything holds up, but we didn't do that back then.
- 44:03So I wanted to revisit this because look like that's a fire
- 44:07take. That's a that's a big one.
- 44:10To be fair, you did agree with me on that take in that episode.
- 44:16You. You.
- 44:16Like read the context you kind of I I like doing that.
- 44:20Read the whole thing. Yeah, you agreed.
- 44:22You even had a little nugget that you threw in in the middle
- 44:25of that saying one of the best relievers closing down the game.
- 44:28So it was it was a good one. I think I'm.
- 44:34Sad we got that wrong though. But I mean, I guess I we
- 44:37technically didn't get it. I mean, I got the quote wrong,
- 44:40like the speaker of the quote. But I mean, if we both were in
- 44:42agreement, because as you were reading that, I was like, I I
- 44:45wholeheartedly was behind the Tony move it when it first
- 44:49happened. So, you know, that's why I went
- 44:51with me. But I'm glad to know that you
- 44:53were thinking the same. Well done.
- 44:56All right, let's let's get into this draft.
- 44:58All right, I'm excited about this one.
- 45:01Me too. I got notes, got a, got a
- 45:04sharpie. I'm ready, dude.
- 45:06I looked, I went out yesterday looking for a whiteboard in
- 45:09anticipation for this and any other drafts or anything that
- 45:11would require a whiteboard. I went to the Dollar Tree.
- 45:14They didn't have any. I mean, I could have gotten a
- 45:17whiteboard, but it was like it had like dinosaurs around it.
- 45:20I'm like no, I just want a plain whiteboard.
- 45:24This one's nice. Got the college.
- 45:26Rule, I know, but I just wanted it for a dollar.
- 45:28I don't want to spend more than like $3 on this thing.
- 45:32That's where you drew the line. 3 bucks. $3 out, no more than
- 45:36that. I this this white board has to
- 45:37be under 3 or else I'm I'll walk in.
- 45:41Get billet to the pod, not a podcast expense.
- 45:45I could. Have I I?
- 45:46In fact, I should have, but trying to be a little more
- 45:48frugal. This is not an alphabet draft.
- 45:54This is a numbers draft. So we are drafting our team
- 45:59based on the jersey number, jersey numbers that they wore.
- 46:04I don't know why I put the emphasis on jersey there, jersey
- 46:09numbers and we're cutting the go ahead and judge us.
- 46:15We had to, we had to draw the line somewhere with the numbers.
- 46:18Jersey numbers we're willing to go up to I think got ridiculous.
- 46:21We met at 60. I think we agreed on 60 because
- 46:25I mean, my goodness, some of the numbers insane.
- 46:29So anyway, we're drafting one through 9 because it like so I
- 46:34think we settled on three outfielders sort of like we did
- 46:37for the alphabet draft. Yeah, we're drafting our
- 46:39lineups. 3 outfielders so we don't have to worry about the
- 46:42first second, you know. Short Oh, so we're just doing
- 46:45infielders? Infield's outfielders.
- 46:47So no like left field, center field.
- 46:49But we do have a pitcher. Do you starter or reliever?
- 46:53Catcher 4 Infielders 3 Outfielders DH Our our little
- 46:58rule to make this a little more difficult and fun is that we are
- 47:02going to we're going to filter this by WAR and you can only
- 47:11have three top three WAR guys on your team for that specific
- 47:18number. Be WAR for that specific number.
- 47:23So who won last week by the OR last time?
- 47:28By the way, I think, I think your boy got that time.
- 47:31Yeah, yeah, you won. And people said in the comments,
- 47:34they said if Kyle would not have overlooked Jordan, they said
- 47:39this, this draft was all his. And I said I.
- 47:41Agree. I agree, you know.
- 47:44I. Agree.
- 47:45If my uncle had boobies, he'd be my aunt.
- 47:48That so yeah, that's let's let's go ahead and just let's.
- 47:59We can play the IF game all we want.
- 48:02I mean, what are we? What?
- 48:05Whatever, Let's just draft. Let's get into this.
- 48:09All right, so random number generator, who wants to go
- 48:12first? Let's do a Little Rock, paper,
- 48:13scissors. I won last week, but whatever, I
- 48:16guess we'll. Oh, you're right.
- 48:17You're right. That's what we used to do for
- 48:19the drafts. It would just until you won.
- 48:21I appreciate it. That's fair.
- 48:23Yeah. Yeah.
- 48:23OK. I appreciate that.
- 48:24That's fair. We'll stick with that.
- 48:25All right, so. Are we a good number man?
- 48:27Let's set it at 61st number. Oh, here's a question.
- 48:34Should I set the minimum number at 0?
- 48:36No, just one. OK.
- 48:38Well, should we look at? No, it's fine.
- 48:41No one. It's fine.
- 48:43All right. Our first number for this draft,
- 48:4815. All right, did we?
- 48:54And sorry, I was pulling up the generator when you were going
- 48:57through the rules. Did you?
- 48:58Oh crap, did you indicate the three you indicated like the
- 49:01three picks? 33 top three guys.
- 49:05Three top three WAR picks, if that makes sense.
- 49:10Yep, B War. Yep, Yep, there's A.
- 49:20What he wore 15. I know that was like, it's, it's
- 49:24grabbing my eye real quick, but you know, do you want to burn it
- 49:29on that he'd wear. 15 This is crazy.
- 49:33I know it. What's cool is that it can be
- 49:35any point in their career. Did they wear that number?
- 49:39So which is what? Wild.
- 49:40Which is wild. That's the rule.
- 49:42But that's how Baseball Reference is allowing us to do
- 49:45this. So some of these guys wore 15 a
- 49:48lot, some of them didn't. So I'm not, I'm gonna not burn a
- 49:54top three spot yet, although I I want to, I'm not going to give
- 50:02me Jim Edmonds. What do you think of that?
- 50:06That's a good pick. That's a good pick.
- 50:08Right. And he wore that number looks
- 50:13like 123456789101110 years. Oh, it says it right there.
- 50:22I'm an idiot. 10 years of wearing the number 15.
- 50:24So that's legit versus some of these guys are big names.
- 50:28They only wore it once or twice. I'm actually going to drop the
- 50:33list down a little bit because like I, I get.
- 50:35The I know what you're doing, no.
- 50:36No, no, stop. I get that the rule is like, you
- 50:39wear that, you wear it at any point, but there's some guys I'm
- 50:41like, this just feels wrong. Like to go with this guy, he
- 50:44wore it for like 3 days before he changed his jersey number for
- 50:47the rest of his career. So I'm going to go with, you
- 50:51guessed it, Dustin Pedroia as one of my infielders, and we're
- 50:59just going to go ahead and chalk that up as an excellent pick.
- 51:04That is a great pick, but I wasn't going to do it.
- 51:07Nor would I expect you to random.
- 51:10By the way, for anyone curious who's not following along, Randy
- 51:13Johnson was at the top of that list.
- 51:15He wore the number 15 one year, 1992, as a Mariner.
- 51:18Crazy. And it just didn't feel right.
- 51:21It didn't feel right, you know, because if, if I were to put
- 51:24that on a graphic, people like you, you have dyslexia.
- 51:27He wore 51. I think that was the invert,
- 51:30yeah. Like maybe he didn't 51 one
- 51:31wasn't available in 92. Must have been it.
- 51:34Is that his rookie year, by the way?
- 51:37No. Couldn't have been 88 with the
- 51:43Expos. Well he made his debut in 88.
- 51:49Does that does that count as his rookie year?
- 51:51He only made well. He definitely didn't carry over
- 51:52to 92. Four stars.
- 51:54Yeah. No, definitely not.
- 51:55Yeah. Anyway, next number up and if
- 51:58we're doing snake draft, I'm next in line.
- 52:00You sure are. So let's run it.
- 52:04The next number is 27. I'm going to I'm going to go
- 52:09ahead and I don't even have to look, but I will just to see who
- 52:14he's in competition with here. But I'm going to go ahead and
- 52:17take Mike Trout for my outfield. That's beautiful.
- 52:22That's beautiful. And I'm assuming that you're
- 52:26just trusting me with these numbers, correct?
- 52:28Like you don't, you're not. I'm going to put a, I'm going to
- 52:31put an asterisk next to it so we know that that is one of your
- 52:35top three war names. True.
- 52:37True. Yes.
- 52:38Good call. Good call.
- 52:39OK All right. You're up.
- 52:45Oh. Yeah, I know there's some decent
- 52:47names in here. Oh, yeah.
- 52:49I mean, only like Hall of Fame, Hall of Famers 27, you can.
- 52:57And if you're just now joining, we're doing a numbers draft,
- 53:04picking our lineup based on jersey numbers, the numbers 27.
- 53:09I went with Mike Trout. We have a wide selection.
- 53:17I think of Holla fans control with Vladimir Guerrero in my
- 53:23outfield. Senior, not junior.
- 53:29Everybody should know that. If you don't know that, you
- 53:31should be ashamed of yourself. You don't know Ball if you don't
- 53:33know who were 27 in that family. Just kidding.
- 53:37Wait, don't they both wear it? What am I saying?
- 53:40I don't know, Ball. I guess.
- 53:42What am I saying? OK, I know.
- 53:45That's what I said. All right, So your pick is up,
- 53:47correct? Yep.
- 53:48I'm up. All right, generate number.
- 53:52Oh, it's a good one. It's a real good one.
- 53:56Number nine. Wow.
- 53:59Love me a single digit. I think you probably have an
- 54:04idea. Come on, Baseball Reference.
- 54:08Let's speed up this. Wow, come on now.
- 54:16Do I know what are you it's. Taking forever to load Baseball
- 54:21Reference just has no chill. Hey, there's a lot of numbers on
- 54:25there, man. There's a lot of data it's got
- 54:26to sift through to get you where you're going.
- 54:29Yeah, wow. Holy crap.
- 54:39Oh oh. We both are looking good here.
- 54:43Going down the list here, there's some dudes that were #9
- 54:49some dudes. Well, got to do it because I
- 54:55can't do yours. So I'm going to clean up my
- 54:59outfield here. I'm going to go give me Joe
- 55:03DiMaggio. Gordon.
- 55:06No, I can't do Joe DiMaggio only wore one year.
- 55:10Can't. Yeah, that's that's a baseball
- 55:12sin. Can't do it here.
- 55:19Nate is going to go with. I mean, I think there's names
- 55:25that sometimes just kind of trump rivalries and bias.
- 55:34So I'm going to do it because I can't let you do it.
- 55:36Give me give me Teddy ball game. I mean, I I would have I would
- 55:40have shot you had you not gone Teddy ball game there.
- 55:43But you know, that's fine. I'm going to go, I'm going to
- 55:46go, wow, what a, what a, what a turn of events here because I'm
- 55:54going, I'm going to go Reggie Jackson.
- 56:01That is for a while, but that's. A.
- 56:03Well, yeah, as an A, but you know, still.
- 56:06But that's, I mean, nine years of wearing that, that's, that
- 56:08ain't bad. How about that dude, I'm I'm
- 56:11cleaning up right now. What are we talking about?
- 56:15All right, do I got it. You got it.
- 56:20Where does Reggie Jackson fall on the war list for that, by the
- 56:23way? I I lost him.
- 56:25Not in the ties. He's at 74.
- 56:29Wow, we should, Dang, we should have written should.
- 56:33Should I write down war? We can go back and do it.
- 56:36It's fine. OK.
- 56:42OK. So he is 6 on that list.
- 56:44Wow. Archie Vaughan is number 4.
- 56:48OK, Do I got first pick here? Yeah.
- 56:51All right. Next pick, we said 60.
- 56:56The number is 54. That's not good.
- 56:59Actually, no. We determined with our alphabet
- 57:02draft that you actually want the suckier options.
- 57:07Yeah, because there's less options, right, OK, However.
- 57:11However, why do I feel like there's somebody real obvious
- 57:16here that I'm this see that just that doesn't feel right that
- 57:23doesn't? Yeah, this is a tough number.
- 57:27None of these feel right. None of them feel right because
- 57:30it you look as a reminder, we only have one pitcher spot,
- 57:35which we probably should have thought of a little a little
- 57:39heavier on. This is tough, man.
- 57:46I'm going to pick with the Cincinnati Red Legs in 1954, Jim
- 57:55Pierce with a WAR of -1.1 Now I dude I.
- 58:07Know. This really sucks.
- 58:13This is a rough number. This is a rough number.
- 58:20Can I put Oh my goodness this sucks dude.
- 58:27The the options are horrendous. I'm just going to have to take
- 58:31an L on this one dude because. Yeah.
- 58:39I mean, what did we, what did we determine though?
- 58:42Is it anytime in their career? I mean, I guess.
- 58:52I mean, it is a jersey number game.
- 58:54This is what they wore so. I mean, that's kind of what we
- 58:57did for the positions, you know what I mean?
- 58:59If they spent any time at that position, we were allowed to use
- 59:01it. So all right.
- 59:02Well, I'm going to hate to do this, but I'm going to have to
- 59:04go Kirsch 54 because there's a massive drop off after.
- 59:11That there's a big drop off. All right.
- 59:15And that's that's my second top three war pick, by the way.
- 59:18That is, that is, you got two of the three that kind of burned me
- 59:27because I felt like you weren't going to do it.
- 59:30I I wouldn't have if the drop off wasn't as bad as it is, but
- 59:35this is this is terrible. It sucks that like this is an
- 59:38all time draft and I have to go with this name, but like maybe
- 59:44some recency will help me here. I'm going to go Max freed.
- 59:52Really over Goose? Yeah, I know, I know.
- 59:57Woof. I know.
- 1:00:00That's fair. That's.
- 1:00:01Fair goose. Goose was definitely in the in
- 1:00:03the conversation in my head. And you would have let you still
- 1:00:07could have skated out of there without a top three war pick if
- 1:00:10you would have gone goose. But it's been written.
- 1:00:13So no going back. Max Freed.
- 1:00:17All right, you got first pick. The number is 37.
- 1:00:27Oh, this is not going to be good.
- 1:00:30Which is good for you as we just discussed.
- 1:00:34Oh nevermind. Well that sucks.
- 1:00:38I just burned my pitching. Spot.
- 1:00:40Oh my goodness, dude. You want to talk about some
- 1:00:43arms? We both we both blew the the
- 1:00:48pitching spot. So let's just run through the
- 1:00:49names here. Pedro Martinez wore 37.
- 1:00:52Max Scherzer, Ryan Sandberg, Well, not a pitcher.
- 1:00:55Dennis Eckersley, Tommy John, Keith Hernandez.
- 1:00:59I mean, some of these names, my goodness.
- 1:01:03Steven Strasburg. What a drop off Wow.
- 1:01:17It's your pick, my friend. This sucks.
- 1:01:24This is tough. This is tough, dude.
- 1:01:38What's tough is that it does burn a top three spot.
- 1:01:50Yeah, I think I, Nah, I'm not going to do it on him.
- 1:01:59Let's go, Keith Hernandez. That's who I wanted.
- 1:02:02That is who I wanted. OK, well then that leaves me
- 1:02:06with, yeah, see, this is where I take a little bit of a hit, but
- 1:02:19there's got to be there's got to be some names.
- 1:02:26Vince DiMaggio. Wasn't that the third DiMaggio
- 1:02:28brother? I.
- 1:02:29Think so. Like I answered my own question
- 1:02:32there. Too.
- 1:02:35Not too many Dimaggio's floating.
- 1:02:37Around. That's fair.
- 1:02:38Yeah. In baseball.
- 1:02:40All right, this is easy. I'm going.
- 1:02:43Wait. Oh, no.
- 1:02:46OK. Yeah, we're good.
- 1:02:47I'm going to go, I believe was on my alphabet team.
- 1:02:51I'm going to go with to Oscar Hernandez.
- 1:03:00Well, you really open it up, didn't?
- 1:03:03You. I had to dude.
- 1:03:04I didn't I. I mean, I don't hate it.
- 1:03:09I'm playing to the I'm playing to the crowd with this one.
- 1:03:11I'm not. You are.
- 1:03:13And you went with who? Keith Hernandez.
- 1:03:20All right, all right, next pick already done 27 already done
- 1:03:291511 who wore #11? You're up first.
- 1:03:38Correct. Good.
- 1:03:43Oh yeah, Yeah, actually. Oh, actually, I didn't know
- 1:03:53actually. 11 is so deep. Actually, Oh my goodness. 11 is
- 1:04:03so deep. I mean, you, I'm like I'm like
- 1:04:09100 names down and I could go with you Darvish, if I wanted
- 1:04:12to. Well, I couldn't because I
- 1:04:13already have a picture, but and not that I would go with you,
- 1:04:15Darvish, but I mean, this is 11 is deep.
- 1:04:19I'm going to go. You know what, I'm not going to.
- 1:04:26I'm not going to blow my last top three war pick.
- 1:04:30I'm going to go. Edgar Martinez is my DH.
- 1:04:36Smart. Give me Barry Larkin.
- 1:04:45Good pick that. Yeah, it was either going to be
- 1:04:48probably him. Same.
- 1:04:48Thing I was if you went Barry Larkin, I was going Edgar.
- 1:04:53But if I did want to blow the final war, top three war pick, I
- 1:04:56was, I mean, Rogers Hornsby at 120, War of 127.
- 1:05:00My goodness. All right, All right, next
- 1:05:05number. Who's got the pick?
- 1:05:09You do. I do.
- 1:05:16Oh oh, you can't. Never mind.
- 1:05:17Number is 52. Oh boy.
- 1:05:22Just announced into the Hall of Fame CC Sabathia.
- 1:05:26Would have loved it. Would have loved it.
- 1:05:27A lot of a lot of pictures are going to be on this list, so
- 1:05:30this is tough all things considered.
- 1:05:34Roy Halliday wore it in 98. Tim Hudson wore it in 99.
- 1:05:43Oh my gosh, this is this. Is tough.
- 1:05:47This is real tough. Bro that's such a hard number.
- 1:05:57Like we should have thought about the pitcher spots because
- 1:05:59like anything above 45 is really looking to like pitcher
- 1:06:04category. Yeah.
- 1:06:08Really heavy in that area. I don't even know man.
- 1:06:13I don't even know. It's got me thinking.
- 1:06:33My outfields take in, so that mean mean if I do, another
- 1:06:36outfielder burns my DH spot. This is tough, man.
- 1:06:53Oh, I got a couple of. I got a couple of options here.
- 1:06:55You going down, you going down a little bit to like some live
- 1:06:58names. I'm going to have to think
- 1:07:01outside the. Box again 37.
- 1:07:04What? What number are we at, 52?
- 1:07:0852. I'm all over the place, man.
- 1:07:11I was looking at that. Leave me alone.
- 1:07:14How far? How far down are you going guy?
- 1:07:17You scrolling. Down, don't worry about it, but
- 1:07:19I do know we got to get these people out of here before the
- 1:07:21football game get gets here so. All right, all right.
- 1:07:24Let's put a put a rush on this. I mean, look, hit me with the
- 1:07:32UNS exodus at DH, all right? You're not proud of it.
- 1:07:38No, but I mean all things considered, not.
- 1:07:40That that was a good, that was a good run for a short time.
- 1:07:43As your DH, All right, I'm going to go.
- 1:07:49Where am I at? I'm going to go.
- 1:07:55Give me Sean Casey, the 97 Indians.
- 1:08:00Sean Casey. Give me Sean Casey as my
- 1:08:06infielder. The mayor.
- 1:08:12All right, next number 1. Oh.
- 1:08:18This will be interesting. You're up first.
- 1:08:22I sure AM. All right.
- 1:08:28I don't want to do that. Oh, give me, give me Nomar
- 1:08:47Garcia para. That was stupid.
- 1:08:54I mean it's in it's in. I thought I'd do that.
- 1:09:00No, it wasn't stupid. No, I mean like it's a it's a
- 1:09:03good that's a great name to have on your roster, but I'm just
- 1:09:06saying, like comparatively, I just didn't I didn't want to
- 1:09:09use. I'm saving my last, my last war
- 1:09:12pick my. Last war pick I'm only going to
- 1:09:15be using my second year. Give me Ozzie Smith, arguably
- 1:09:19the most popular #1 all right, so you.
- 1:09:29I've got 3 infielders. My outfield is set, so I need
- 1:09:34one more infielder and a catcher.
- 1:09:36We are doing the same thing then, so that's going to make
- 1:09:38things interesting. Yikes.
- 1:09:41Yeah. All right.
- 1:09:41So you got first pick here, correct?
- 1:09:43Yep. 447. Dude, why am I getting burned?
- 1:09:50With this this is fun. Just.
- 1:09:54Pitchers galore need an infielder and a catcher.
- 1:10:07Oh man, I could really mess with you.
