- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Hey besties, welcome back to the Founder Podcast.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: Today is a guest day, and again, it's one of my business besties.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Like she's already smiling.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: This woman is like, I think she's I think you are, I'm talking about you like you're not here and I'm staring right at you.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: I think you are literally on a soul level.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: You match my soul sense of humor.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: You and your daughter, I just they you crack me up.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: But not only are you funny, I love your sense of humor, you are brilliant and talented, and you have such a unique perspective.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: And so welcome, Kayla Pilecki.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: Uh, I'm gonna let you introduce yourself like professionally and personally a little bit because the founder podcast is about who we are as people and our own story.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Um, that helps kind of build a little bit about our brand, but we do have a lot in common in terms of our business or like being um entrepreneurs.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: So we always like to talk about that, but tell us a little more about you.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: Okay, thanks for having me on, Kim.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: This is so exciting.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: I know it's been a long time.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: I don't know why you haven't been on, but that's okay.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: It's okay.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: We can remedy that.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: Okay, so I'm Kayla Pilecki.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: I'm the co-founder of My Aligned Purpose, along with Nicole Crohn.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: And we made this business to coach women entrepreneurs to be better at sales, make more profit, and have more fun in their business.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: So that's our main business.
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: Okay, so stop there for a second.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: I know I told you to introduce yourself.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: You said this the other day when we were together.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: You said you used to be in fundraising and you had to sell nothing.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: That's my main qualifier.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: I can sell you nothing.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: And you can hand over your money.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: So I I love, I was on a call with somebody today.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: I love the discussion around sales and going after sales.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: So is this what really prompted you and Nicole to build a business around it?
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: Did you find that this was a gap in terms of women feeling uncomfortable with sales?
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: I didn't realize your business was so much about that, but yeah, in the beginning when we got together, we worked for another coaching company and Nicole and I are both trained coaches, and we were coaching school board people and executives to maybe hate their job less or something.
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: It was kind of like not really our thing.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: But then eventually we started our company together.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: And how it really happened was I used to be a money coach.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: Like when I graduated coach school, I decided I wanted to coach on money because I love building wealth, so passionate about it, can talk about it all the live long day from investing and real estate and business building and all the things.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: And Nicole loves manifesting.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: So we got together and we're like, we are gonna do manifesting money masterclass.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: And we sold our first course in 2020 to at literally everybody we knew, if we needed it or not.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: Like 50 people signed up in the first week, and that was made up of everyone who'd ever mentioned that they want to know about manifesting our money to us, including our cousins, like old friends we worked with.
- 3:11SPEAKER_01: If you were in manifesting money masterclass, shout out to you for being an original in my aligned purpose.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: So, anyways, we got together doing that, and then we realized that you're not gonna make the money that you want to make if you want to really build wealth at an accelerated rate, if you work for somebody else, generally speaking.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: So you can build your own business, you can start right now, and then we started talking like you're gonna leave your nine to five and you're gonna build your business because that was our experience.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then we realized we were talking too much about the leave the nine to five.
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: Like we're not really big on the strategy of leaving your nine to five.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: We're more on how do you make money for yourself in business?
- 3:52SPEAKER_01: Like, how does your business be more successful?
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: And so combining manifesting and money has always been our thing.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: So I and I really so just to give people some context about your sparkiness and spiciness and your sense of humor.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: We met in, we met in the US, but we're both Canadians, and we were in a mastermind in the US.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: I think we were in Newport Beach or whatever.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: And the Canadian, you know, whenever you're in the US doing a group thing, like all the Canadians kind of group together.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: But this is this is we did the formal introductions, blah, blah, blah.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: Oh, hi, you're Canadian.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: Oh, hi, I'm a nice Canadian.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: I do this, I do, blah, blah, blah.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: And you and my husband went head to head on who is the king or queen of cold calling.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: And I still, this is still the challenge that has not been executed yet.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: But you We're gonna do it.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: I have never heard a woman to that point.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: I had never heard a woman be so self-assured and confident in their ability to cold call and sell anything.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: You were like, I'll do it, I'll go head to head, I'll knock on every door.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: And so I I want, I I bring that up simply because I love the challenge.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: And yes, you and you and Darren will do that uh once we get a franchise in an area that's close to you.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: Um, but what I love about that though is it brought it brings such a sense of confidence in your ability to execute on whatever it is.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: We talk a lot about sales being super important in all the things, but I find women really have a hard time with this, they feel it's yucky, all that kind of stuff.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: But you have you have developed such a confidence and a no-shame about it that it is just the process.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: How did that come to be?
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: Well, I do think it's really fun.
- 5:34unknown: Oh, yeah.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: Because it's kind of yeah, I really like cold calling.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: It's kind of is my little secret talent.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: It's not really a secret anymore, I guess, now that I have an Instagram page.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: But I think how it came to be is that my dad is really good at sales.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: And when I was a kid, your dad, the lawyer?
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's really good at sales.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: His dad was a tailor, had his own business, and then my dad worked in his dad's business, and he went to law school and was like worked in a tailor shop when he went to law school.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: And he did Amway when I was a kid.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: Amway.
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: Wow, they're to pay for law school.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he did Amway for law school.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: And so I saw when I was a kid like all these products coming into the house and people buying them, and we go drop them off at people's houses, and he listened to tapes.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: So maybe there's some subconscious programming there anyway.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: The thing that I really admire about my dad is that he doesn't give a shit.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: Are we allowed to swear on here?
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: Okay, he doesn't give a shit about what anybody else thinks about him.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: I think that's the the the key.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: He doesn't care.
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: He's like, stay in your own lane, you be your best self, get out there.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: If why not you?
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: Like make it happen.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: And he was always like that with us when we were kids.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: You know, when you're in elementary school or middle school and you're trying to navigate like what do the other kids think about me, or what do the girls think about me?
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: My dad was always so confident and like whatever you love, it's gonna work out.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: I was like, I need some guidance.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: What should I do in university?
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: He's like, just do what you like, who cares?
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: And you're like, that's not good enough guidance.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: I'm like, Dad, I am an A-type overachiever.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: Do what I like.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: I'm good at everything.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: So, anyways, he always just says, do what you like, and it'll always work out.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: And if I told him when I was a kid, we were really close growing up, and if I told him this person thought this or that of me, or how do I navigate this situation, he would just be like, Well, who fucking cares what they think?
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: And that kind of like, I don't know, kind of gave me this confidence that I can put my head down and work and do my best, and that's literally all I can do.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's what I'm bringing.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: That's what I bring to the table.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: That I I mean, I think that piece of not caring because when I look at Darren and his ability to cold call anywhere, like anytime, any he'll just rise up to whatever, whatever it is.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: He does he and uh he is what do you call that?
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: He is unhinged in the sense of like he does not care what the other person or somebody else thinks about what he's doing.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: He cares about who he's talking to, but I'm just saying, like um, our son watched him uh do door knocking for our business in residential uh in the residential communities, and he was he said it's absolutely magical watching how because because he so doesn't care, he's so in the moment and present, he's not feeling like he's being sleazy.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: He's okay if somebody says, No, I don't need that or I don't want that.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: It is remarkable to watch.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: So I I just find it fascinating when people are inclined that way, but that's where that came from, is that same thing, right?
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: So tell me, in your experience doing coaching for the last six years, I think six, seven years you guys have been uh going.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: Um, what do you see with women um in this area of their ability to ask for the sale, put their sale uh offer out there?
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: Like, what is it you see?
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: Is it is it a standard kind of we all just like oh shy away from it?
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: What is it?
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there could be a confidence issue and the sleazy thing really does permeate the conversation about sales, which does, hey.
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: I find so weird because when you're offering something from the heart, yeah, whether it's doors or fundraising opportunity or coaching or whatever, the person who needs it is gonna be interested, and the person who doesn't need it is not gonna be interested.
- 9:33SPEAKER_01: So you're really giving people the opportunity either way.
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: If they say no, you can find somebody else who's interested or that you can help.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: And if they say yes, then you can help them.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: You think we just add too much story to it?
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: We help people reframe this all the time.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's true and then practice.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: And then in Oh, you do practice?
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, in a line CEO method.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: We practice.
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: We have challenges that people send their pitch to Nicole through the DMs.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: Oh, and then she'll edit, she'll like come back with feedback.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: She's very kind and it's I'm sure terrifying for them.
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: But we practice with people that way.
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: We practice with going into breakout rooms and saying, This is what I do.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: Would you consider coming along on the journey or how can I help you?
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: And oh great, this is exactly what I do, and I can move you forward in this way and give people the words.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: Because in my background is in painting, I had a student works painting business in fundraising.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: I didn't really have to work on selling butter actually when I had my butter churning business.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: People who had a butter, a butter churning business.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: What you didn't know that?
- 10:37unknown: No.
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: Okay, we'll save that one for a minute.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: Not right now.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: Anyway, people who love butter want to buy it, and the people who hate butter don't even talk to you.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: So that be that made everything even clearer for me.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: Oh, but then in fundraising as well, like in sales training, real sales training where you work for someone, yeah, they make you practice the words.
- 10:56SPEAKER_01: Yep, they do.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: Would you consider funding this project?
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: Could we put together a project or a proposal or whatever together that would suit those needs?
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: So over and over again, in quote unquote sales training and fundraising, we worked on saying the words out loud.
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: So that they become comfortable and normal for you.
- 11:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:14SPEAKER_01: So the first time you say the word out loud is not with someone who might want to buy that thing and is thinking, who the hell is this?
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: She can't even get it out.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: So we practice that in aligned CEO method and the other courses that we do where we say, What is the issue?
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: And then, you know, you come on and you could say, Okay, tell me a problem you have right now.
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: Any problem.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm asking you.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: Any problem you have right now, tell me about it.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: I have a franchise candidate who has been through the whole process.
- 11:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: He's been through discovery, he's been approved.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: He gave me a deposit, but he hasn't signed the agreement.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: Okay, great.
- 11:51SPEAKER_01: Okay, so did you see when I was you were talking, I was looking at you and nodding my head.
- 11:54SPEAKER_01: I'm listening.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: And then I would ask, like, let's say I have a product that makes him sign the agreement.
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: I could say, what do you think the barrier is between him having the pen and signing the product?
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: Like, what's the issue here?
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: So I would say that to him.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: What is the barrier?
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: No, no, you're you're answering me.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: I'm role-playing with you right now.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: You tell me what do you think the barrier is.
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: What do you think the barrier is?
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: No, you tell me what the barrier is between him, what you think.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: Oh Kim, I did not warn Kim about role-playing everyone.
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: So this is why.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: So Kim, what do you think the barrier is?
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: For him.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: Um, I think that there's still some reluctance.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 12:33unknown: Yes.
- 12:33SPEAKER_00: And he paid the deposit.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: You put a deposit down.
- 12:36unknown: Okay.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: But he gives me different, he gives me different different feedback as to what the delay is for getting it signed.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: Oh, and are those legitimate things?
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't know, hospital, etc., etc.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: or what?
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: Well, it's like, yeah, now it's like, well, I'm not sure if I'm a Canadian citizen.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: I was like, wait, what?
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: Oh, I see.
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: And so I just have to get that sorted out.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: I just have to get this sorted out.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: Like it's just, but yet he put the deposit down, which is really weird because usually the opposite.
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: Usually it's they don't sign, right?
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: So that's my biggest right now.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 13:13SPEAKER_01: Well, persistence is what's gonna help with that.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: And if I had a product for persistence, then I would be like, okay, what we're gonna do is put in place our product, which is an email that goes out every two days that says, Hey, reminder, do you want to have a call with Kim?
- 13:28SPEAKER_01: Do you want to check in?
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: And then just be making sure that this does not slip through the cracks.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: And then you, if I had the persistence product, would be like, Yes, I need that.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: And I'd be like, Great, here's how you sign up.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: And then I give you the link right now.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: So it's the persistence, because that is literally it.
- 13:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, right now it is.
- 13:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, for you, right now.
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: So that was like a little combo of like coaching and sales, because I just made up that I have this persistence product, you know, like typically if I get on a call with you and I'm like, what's the issue?
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: And you tell me the issue, it's because we have some match.
- 14:03SPEAKER_01: Like, for example, if you came on the call and you're like, I'm covered in mosquito bites and they're so itchy, I would be like, No way.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: I hate when that happens.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: Edmonton, full of mosquitoes.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: I totally get that.
- 14:15SPEAKER_01: You know what I have?
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: This amazing cream from Aquafour.
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: I can only get it from the States, but I can give you one.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: You can give it a shot and it totally takes the itch away.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: Can I send that over to you?
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: Okay, exactly, right?
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: Okay, so yeah, we're just practicing on making eye contact, listening, hearing what people are saying.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: And then if I have the solution, I'll give it to you in the form of a quote unquote sale.
- 14:41SPEAKER_01: If I don't, let's say I know nothing about mosquito bites or I know nothing about coaching people to say yes or whatever that is.
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: Um, then I would say, you know who this could be really great for?
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: My friend.
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: Blah blah blah.
- 14:55SPEAKER_01: She's she's got the sales solution, so I'm gonna hand that over.
- 14:58SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: Watching you in action.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: I haven't seen you guys in action.
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: I just I love it.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: So what I love, no wonder you have such a high uh uh retaining rate.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: People love all this because this is the piece that miss misses.
- 15:12SPEAKER_00: People don't get the practice experience.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: We do that with our franchise partners.
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: We actually have role-playing during our training to get them comfortable with exactly making the presentation so that it's not the first time they're using the language, it's not the first time that they're uh presenting their product or their service, right?
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: And all that kind of stuff and getting them comfortable with that before they go into the real world.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: Okay, so let's shift a little bit.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: Okay, tell me right now Okay, when I follow your personal Instagram, especially when your kids are in school, and you got the like life, life of the littles and the the what do you call it?
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: The uh the oh my god, why am I drawing a blank?
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: It's like Yes, it's like the situation with the lunchboxes and all that kind of stuff.
- 15:59SPEAKER_00: Tell me what else lights up your life besides your job.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: My job, my kids, you know, I'm obsessed with my dog.
- 16:09SPEAKER_00: Oh, your dog.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: What do you mean by obsessed with your dog?
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: You said that's okay.
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: You know I'm obsessed with my dog.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: That is like part of our identity.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: Nicole and I are die hard dog people.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: We love dogs.
- 16:23SPEAKER_00: Okay, so if somebody came into your community and was like, I don't like dogs, you're like, sorry, you're out.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: No, but they might identify as these people are insane.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: So oh, because you're okay.
- 16:33SPEAKER_00: So dogs, kids, yeah.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: Okay, so that's that's funny.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: Everybody who knows me, like has been to my house, they're like, She has a problem.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: She loves this dog so much.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: So I'm really into woodles.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: He's a wheat and poodle combo.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: Oh, oh, that is uh that's a rough, not rough, sorry, that rough, rough.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: That is an active dog.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's a big boy.
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: He's active, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: Because we're like that.
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: Um, I love what else do I love to do?
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: I really love working out, and I like taking everything to the max.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: As you know, it's like my cold calling personality and my butter turning personality and my work and my kids and my working out personality is all very it's just go.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: If I like it, I really like it.
- 17:19SPEAKER_01: If I don't like something, I just don't like it at all.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: And then you just leave it on the wayside.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm just like, oh, somebody else is gonna like that.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: Off it goes.
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: So, what has been your biggest challenge going from working for somebody else to working for yourself and living this dream?
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: I mean, look at your you're uh a half of a partnership.
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: So building uh life and wealth for yourself and your family.
- 17:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, yeah.
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: How do you how did you make that transition and how does it feel?
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: Would you ever go back to paid and work?
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: Could you ever be an employee?
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: I think I could do contract for someone else.
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: I'm really good at implementing.
- 17:56SPEAKER_01: I'm really good at execution.
- 17:58SPEAKER_01: Like I can hear a vision and then I can see how it's gonna get done.
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I'm not afraid of working on it.
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: Like I will be the person, if needed, who's changing the links on the website at midnight if we have to do that.
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: That is I'm I love an execution moment.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: I don't love being tired all the time from doing too much execution, but I'm not gonna be like, oh, I couldn't, I I couldn't paint that, I couldn't clean that, I couldn't change the thing.
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: You know, like I will do it.
- 18:27SPEAKER_00: So, what has been the hardest or the biggest transition in um the biggest transition?
- 18:33SPEAKER_01: You know, when I was a fundraiser, I was a fundraiser for 12 years.
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: I had a lot of freedom because I always did major gifts fundraising.
- 18:42SPEAKER_01: And so I would work really hard, but I had my targets to hit.
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: And there's a lot of like going out and meeting people and having conversations and tracking those leads and moving them forward.
- 18:54SPEAKER_01: So I wouldn't say that there's that the the transition hasn't been hard.
- 18:58SPEAKER_01: I've always been a self-starter.
- 19:00SPEAKER_00: Kind of had some freedom structure your days and times and all that.
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm like, and like pay me and I will deliver, I will make this happen.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: But I would say, like, part of the challenge that we have now in my aligned purpose is I haven't seen a business go beyond a million a year.
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: Like, I I don't really know how to do that.
- 19:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:19SPEAKER_01: So, in terms of scaling a service-based coaching business, and we were talking about this the other day when we were together, and I'm just being really honest.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: It's like I could spreadsheet it out, but to get from, let's say, six, seven hundred thousand dollars a year, and we know what we're doing there to scale like the marketing piece of it and the conversion piece of it, we've never used ads, we've always been relationship-based.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: And then that makes me think like, where is that gap that that we're not we're not filling in?
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: So before we were like, if we ever consider hiring again in terms of coaching and consulting and support and that kind of thing, I really need to see that the person has done above and beyond what we've already done.
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: Okay, but there's lots of there's lots of coaching businesses, isn't there, that do coaching over a million, have grown their or they are those digital product businesses and not necessarily coaching business?
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there are, but I want the tactical.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 20:22SPEAKER_00: You know, like I don't need the rah-rah.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: I don't need somebody else who's like, this is how you have the vision to expand.
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, we have the vision to expand.
- 20:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and the thing is there's gotta be something between referrals, yeah, right.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: And because referrals isn't scalable.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: That's the thing.
- 20:39SPEAKER_00: Referrals are nice and they can keep going and they can add bumps and extra, you know, they help bring down customer acquisition costs and all that kind of stuff, but it's not scalable.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: And Stacey and I were having this conversation yesterday, and we were like, we should have this conversation on a podcast because she's like for her, she's all referral-based.
- 20:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, right?
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: It's for us, our referrals are well, we can make them be predictable.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: I've created a system around it so that it could it can be fairly predictable.
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: But if you don't have a system at all, then your referrals are not going to be predictable.
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: But we have like a launch event where we get all of our affiliates together, do a manifesting party, tell them the bonuses for this launch, ask them to activate in these ways, have the pre-written emails and the social shares, and really incentivize people to share around launch time.
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: And that does every time I'm so surprised, it does surprisingly work in a but fairly fairly predictable way.
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: But yeah, that that isn't.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: And then the other thing is I think we had a mindset block around just me and Nicole being like, we're gonna have a lean team no matter what.
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: And then we just kept trying to keep the team so lean and we Still make more money, and then we'd be like, No, we got to keep, we'll hire like you know, coaches that are super expensive or whatever, but team, we have to keep that lean, and I think that's another block because I finally, like at She Leads this year, which is our event, and Kim was the keynote at it, and everyone was beyond moved.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: It was an incredible experience.
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: I ran that event, the logistics of it, the everything from catering, hotel booking, merch sales, blah, blah, blah, by myself.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: Because before April 2026, I could do everything in my land purpose.
- 22:35SPEAKER_01: And yeah, I can be like, you know, Nickel pick up, do do this thing and post, you know, she'll say, I'm gonna post about this and we're gonna sell it.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: And she really is the visionary.
- 22:44SPEAKER_01: She can see how to move forward.
- 22:46SPEAKER_01: And before that event, I was still in the under the delusion that I could still execute everything.
- 22:52SPEAKER_01: But when that event happened, I was like, oh no, it can't just be me anymore.
- 22:58SPEAKER_01: I need help.
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: We're at we're beyond, well, well, well beyond the max of doing this as well as I want to do it with just me executing.
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: So that's a real big mind.
- 23:09SPEAKER_00: And and so this is where lots of people find themselves in business, right?
- 23:13SPEAKER_00: They're growing, they're growing, but they're not actually, they're not moving the levers in the right sp space.
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: So let me ask you then this is there a what is the place between referrals and ads to grow your business?
- 23:26SPEAKER_00: If you're looking, how do you help your your I was gonna say franchise partners, how do you say help your CEOs, align CEOs?
- 23:34SPEAKER_00: Like what is the marketing play to grow in that space without because is because ads, I'll tell you this, and and I don't care what business it is, ads is a learning curve.
- 23:46SPEAKER_01: Oh I know we've tried it before and failed a couple of times.
- 23:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, well, we fail because we stop.
- 23:51SPEAKER_00: It's not because the ad because you have to put the stuff out there, you have to take the hits, which means you're spending money well not getting return.
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, instead of learning it, I decided that would be something to outsource and then outsourcing it to people who But then that becomes we're not their top priority, but we pay them a lot of money.
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: So that is not good.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: Well, that, and then the other thing is then you're uh I'm anxious all the time.
- 24:17SPEAKER_00: Somebody else has got the money, yeah, and I'm not it's not producing what I want.
- 24:21SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, are they doing a good enough job?
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: Should is there somebody better?
- 24:25SPEAKER_00: Blah blah blah blah blah.
- 24:27SPEAKER_00: And then months go by, and then the team's like, Hey, do you have the right people?
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like this.
- 24:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 24:32SPEAKER_00: So it is, it it is yeah.
- 24:34SPEAKER_01: So our middle ground is currently events.
- 24:38SPEAKER_00: In the messy middle of growing.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'd say we're in the messy middle of scaling for sure.
- 24:43SPEAKER_00: Scaling, scaling, yeah, of scaling, yeah.
- 24:45SPEAKER_01: We know that we could add, you know, whatever, 10, 20, 30 more people if we just hit it on sales constantly.
- 24:53SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 24:53SPEAKER_00: You have the infrastructure to bring in that many people.
- 24:56SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 24:56SPEAKER_01: If 100 people signed up today, we can handle it.
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we can handle it.
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: And we have the individual conversation skills to be able, Nicole's just as good as sales as I am.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: Like she gets right in there.
- 25:08SPEAKER_01: She's like, What are you telling me is the issue?
- 25:10SPEAKER_01: We can solve that.
- 25:11SPEAKER_01: If we can't, we're like, Yeah, we can't solve that problem.
- 25:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:14SPEAKER_01: If someone's like, I need an ad expert, we're like, well, that's not us.
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: Uh, we can help you find someone.
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: But our big gap is like, where do we do this at volume?
- 25:24SPEAKER_01: How do we do it so it's not us pulling, like, you know, turning every single knob or pulling every single lever?
- 25:29SPEAKER_01: We've been experimenting with events.
- 25:31SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay, yeah, yeah.
- 25:33SPEAKER_01: And pitching at live events.
- 25:34SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: And it works to a certain extent, but we events are very expensive, as anyone who's put one on knows, and very logistically taxing.
- 25:45SPEAKER_01: And so they take a lot to practice.
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: So the cot the customer acquisition acquisition cost is really high in an event.
- 25:53SPEAKER_01: Just if you just go off of like number of people who attended, how hard it was to organize versus all the conversions, it's like, well, this is expensive.
- 26:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:02SPEAKER_01: I'm like, uh, and the other thing that we have been considering working on is a masterclass, but we do live events, like we previously did five-day live events and then would convert throughout.
- 26:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:16SPEAKER_01: To fully build no love tracks.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: It was like an extended masterclass experience.
- 26:21SPEAKER_01: But that on top of all of our other deliverables is too exhausting for us.
- 26:25SPEAKER_01: We finally have admit admitted, like people know us now.
- 26:28SPEAKER_01: We have we used to do that in the beginning.
- 26:30SPEAKER_01: We need to evolve that tactic from 2021.
- 26:34SPEAKER_01: Like we have 600 podcast episodes, or in the back end, it's like 635.
- 26:39SPEAKER_01: Like we have, you can call me.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: Like you, we you know who we are.
- 26:44SPEAKER_01: We're we are 100% ourselves on the internet, yeah, and we have all these testimonials.
- 26:50SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't think we need to build five days of no love trust anymore, but per perhaps like a really solid hour or or three days of a mini course or something.
- 27:00SPEAKER_00: And that and that's what would be the thing to add.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: That would be the good thing to draw uh drive ads to.
- 27:05SPEAKER_01: Yes, exactly.
- 27:07SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 27:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then the ads going to the free event can then maybe they're not as expensive as if you get an ad to a paid thing.
- 27:16SPEAKER_01: I don't really know.
- 27:17SPEAKER_00: Well, that's the expert, that's what you have to experiment with.
- 27:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's the A B testing.
- 27:21SPEAKER_00: That's what makes people crazy.
- 27:22SPEAKER_00: That's the crazy making part.
- 27:23SPEAKER_00: Because you're like, I just want outcome, I just want return.
- 27:26SPEAKER_00: And then it's like, no, we have to test this, and then we have to test that.
- 27:29SPEAKER_00: So let me ask you this what is your magic sauce for what is the magic between you and Nicole that make people you have 40 some odd clients.
- 27:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, at any given time.
- 27:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it depends if we're running other things.
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: We'll have we can have between yeah, 40, 60, 75.
- 27:48SPEAKER_00: And you have a lot of people that like to stay in your container.
- 27:52SPEAKER_00: What is the what is this?
- 27:53SPEAKER_00: And there's lots of options out there for other business uh females in business for coaching.
- 27:57SPEAKER_00: What makes you what is the secret sauce for you guys?
- 28:00SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 28:01SPEAKER_01: The secret sauce for me and Nicole is, and I'd love to hear what our clients think about this.
- 28:07SPEAKER_01: I know what they would all say community.
- 28:09SPEAKER_01: Okay, we are really good at building a sisterhood.
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: And then so we build the community and the connection.
- 28:19SPEAKER_01: But then Nicole drives the mindset expansion within that, and then I drive the implementation within that.
- 28:26SPEAKER_01: So you're not doing all the work for no, but I host like you know, whatever whatever people need.
- 28:34SPEAKER_01: I will custom create it and deliver it so that it makes sense.
- 28:38SPEAKER_01: Like inside of aligned CEO method right now, I'm teaching Claude Camp once a week for three weeks.
- 28:44SPEAKER_01: We might do four, we might redo another one in the fall.
- 28:47SPEAKER_01: And it's literally like, come on, we're setting up your Claude.
- 28:51SPEAKER_01: That was last year.
- 28:51SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 28:52SPEAKER_00: So it's very like hands-on.
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: And then this one this week was we're gonna build prompts to help you build your personal brand on Claude based on your goals, not based on what I think your business should do.
- 29:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, based on your goals, how many new followers you want a week, how many new you know, leads you actually want to talk to a month.
- 29:12SPEAKER_01: We'll build that out based on the prompts I'm saying, and everyone can modify them, but we're holding the space.
- 29:18SPEAKER_01: It's like an hour and a half call.
- 29:20SPEAKER_01: Open your clock.
- 29:22SPEAKER_01: No, we see what they need.
- 29:23SPEAKER_01: That's our magic sauce, I guess.
- 29:25SPEAKER_01: That's what it is.
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: We see what you need, and we are moving mountains so that you can make money in your business.
- 29:32SPEAKER_01: If there's a barrier in front of everyone, you know, everyone kind of comes up against the same stuff all the time.
- 29:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, then we figure it out.
- 29:38SPEAKER_01: We hire an expert to come in and we move through it.
- 29:41SPEAKER_01: And maybe there's experts in our community.
- 29:43SPEAKER_01: And we we have a like, you know how sometimes you're in a Facebook group or community or something, and they're like, no selling.
- 29:50SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, we're not like that.
- 29:52SPEAKER_01: We're like, what are you selling?
- 29:54SPEAKER_01: Practice your pitch, let's hear all about it.
- 29:57SPEAKER_01: How can we refer you?
- 29:59SPEAKER_01: How can we share your links?
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: We want everybody to know what everybody else is selling and referring each other all the time.
- 30:05SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: You guys are so generous, just as human beings, the both of you.
- 30:09SPEAKER_00: No wonder your business does so well.
- 30:11SPEAKER_00: And you you emulate that for your clients and then they do, and it's beautiful.
- 30:15SPEAKER_00: So tell us about the next event, the big event that's coming up, because this podcast will air before that.
- 30:21SPEAKER_00: Um, but those tickets will be on sale.
- 30:23SPEAKER_00: So tell me what about She Leads.
- 30:26SPEAKER_00: We're getting close to the end, but I want I want to know about She Leads 2027.
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: Okay, She Leads 2027 is happening April 16th and 17th at the Delta Ocean Point here in Victoria.
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: And the sixth we're doing a little differently this year.
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: If you've come before, then you'll know that we used to do a party on Friday night, and then Saturday was the whole day.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: Okay, so Friday night is actually gonna be a sit-down dinner.
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: Oh, a beautiful dinner for anyone who gets a VIP ticket, yeah, sit-down dinner and group masterminding.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: We do masterminding a little bit differently than other people do.
- 31:02SPEAKER_01: I've never seen anyone do it exactly the way that we do it, but we will give you prompts.
- 31:07SPEAKER_01: We facilitate the whole thing so that there's no sitting there and wondering what we're gonna talk about.
- 31:14SPEAKER_01: And one person doesn't take over the whole thing for the whole time you have together.
- 31:18SPEAKER_01: Those are my two I can't handle.
- 31:20SPEAKER_01: So we facilitate it.
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: We're gonna have some speakers on the Friday night as well.
- 31:25SPEAKER_01: Early access, you'll get a different goodie bag, and that's a VIP option.
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: And then you can come on Saturday.
- 31:30SPEAKER_01: Saturday starts at nine.
- 31:31SPEAKER_01: We're doing full breakfast, full lunch, snacks all day.
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: The food is gonna be incredible.
- 31:38SPEAKER_01: And then it ends at five on Saturday.
- 31:41SPEAKER_00: Okay, so now, oh, that's good.
- 31:42SPEAKER_00: And then will you last time you had your C aligned CEOs do some stuff?
- 31:47SPEAKER_00: Are you doing that again?
- 31:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:49SPEAKER_01: So the aligned CEOs will be invited to a Sunday brunch, and it's included in your aligned CEO registration.
- 31:56SPEAKER_01: So when you sign up between like with depends how long you're an aligned CEO, but if you're an active member during the time of She Leads, then you're invited to a special brunch and we do connection, some masterminding there, and really like get to know each other and how we can refer each other at that.
- 32:12SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 32:12SPEAKER_00: So you guys, I was at She Leads.
- 32:14SPEAKER_00: I've already got my ticket for next spring.
- 32:17SPEAKER_00: So that's why I wanted to take a moment because we need to fill that room.
- 32:21SPEAKER_00: We need 200 seats, 200 bucks in seats.
- 32:24SPEAKER_00: Let's get that.
- 32:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 32:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, my linepurpose.com.
- 32:27SPEAKER_01: And you can just find she leads.
- 32:28SPEAKER_01: Come on down.
- 32:30SPEAKER_00: So fun.
- 32:30SPEAKER_00: Where can people find you?
- 32:32SPEAKER_01: You can find us on Instagram at my line purpose.
- 32:35SPEAKER_01: You can find me at Kayla Pelecki with an underscore at the end on Instagram if you want to follow along on uh fitness, lunches, you know, all sorts of shenanigans.
- 32:46SPEAKER_00: You need more dog content then if you're obsessed with your dog.
- 32:49SPEAKER_00: You think so?
- 32:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 32:50SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, I'm not watching your content daily, but no, there hasn't been much on the every you get a picture every now and then.
- 32:58SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay.
- 32:58SPEAKER_01: We we're we have a request.
- 33:00SPEAKER_01: I take the request seriously.
- 33:03SPEAKER_01: Oh my goodness.
- 33:04SPEAKER_01: Yes, he's the best.
- 33:05SPEAKER_01: And I I want to get another dog, but my husband thinks I'm insane.
- 33:09SPEAKER_00: So I have had two.
- 33:11SPEAKER_00: How old's your dog?
- 33:13SPEAKER_01: Uh seven.
- 33:14SPEAKER_00: Okay, I will say that oh seven.
- 33:17SPEAKER_00: Um they live long, but I I had two dogs.
- 33:20SPEAKER_00: So had one dog for five years, then we're like, oh, let's get the second dog.
- 33:23SPEAKER_00: That's kind of how you end up with a bunch of kids.
- 33:26SPEAKER_00: Um, and I will say this she did not like the pup, the new dog at first.
- 33:32SPEAKER_00: So yeah, that was a hard transition, but the puppy stage was easier with the second one because the puppy is really just fixated on the older dog.
- 33:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they just learned from the older dog.
- 33:44SPEAKER_00: Chew on them, you let the older dog out, the puppy will go out with the you know what I mean?
- 33:48SPEAKER_00: Like all of those things were very much easier with the second one.
- 33:51SPEAKER_00: But I will say they create more noise, more shenanigans, and more poop.
- 33:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's true.
- 33:59SPEAKER_01: I just feel like Beaumore would have so much more fun if he had a lot of people.
- 34:03SPEAKER_00: And then that's yes, that's the that's the other piece, is that we saw Molly come to life.
- 34:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and and you know, I live for him.
- 34:11SPEAKER_01: We had a perfectly great house, and it didn't have a yard that we could just let him out and there wasn't a lawn at our old house, it was kind of like a patio.
- 34:20SPEAKER_01: We're very urban.
- 34:21SPEAKER_01: I was always like, Oh, we're having an urban experience.
- 34:23SPEAKER_01: Listen to all the cars.
- 34:24SPEAKER_01: Great, this is so urban of me.
- 34:26SPEAKER_01: I'm trying to like normalize this, anyways.
- 34:28SPEAKER_01: We're like, we need a backyard for the dog.

- 35:02SPEAKER_00: Um, all of your links will be in the show notes too.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: Okay, thanks.
